Regarding Hyle Hunt
There's been a little discourse regarding the role one Ser Hyle Hunt will play in Lady Brienne of Tarth's storyline going forward. Some people seem to think that he is her perfect match because they hate the idea that Brienne deserves to have a romance with the man she wants--aka one Ser Jaime Lannister--because that messes with the narrative they want to push, whatever that narrative may be.
Some people think that Ser Hyle Hunt is a more interesting and more remarkable man than he truly is, when nothing he's said or done to this point has shown him to be anything of the sort. Personally, I'm not impressed with a man who set up a bet with his buddies over a young noblewoman's virginity--which was essentially the kiss of death to said young woman, who didn't have much going for her on the marriage mart in the first place. (Don't give me the "men will be men" explanation. That makes you no better than Randyll Tarly.) And his proposal of marriage boils down to: "Hey, baby, you've got an island and a lot of money, I've got a functional dick that's already proven to be fertile. I can close my eyes and blow out the candle. Let's do it." How romantic.
There has been absolutely no indication that Brienne will ever love this man, or even care the slightest for him. Threatening to turn someone into a eunuch isn't playful banter, especially not when said man once bet on her virginity and the last time she confronted someone(s) in that bet, she beat the living shit out of them. She hasn't forgotten, and she really hasn't forgiven. And when it comes to Hyle, she never really will, because in her eyes, what he did was the worst of all of them. He came the closest to winning by doing the one thing none of the others did--he made her feel included, like she might be earning a little bit of respect in that camp. Then she found out it was all a lie.
"But she hated Jaime at first!" Yeah, but that was before Jaime: told a lie about Tarth's wealth to save her from rape; shouted "sapphires" and risked a beating to save her from rape again; risked his own life to save hers by jumping unarmed into a bear pit (with only one hand to boot), and revealed the truth about why he killed Aerys, thus revealing that rather than it being a callous act, he'd saved an entire city of innocents--a noble act. THEN he put his trust in her to find Sansa, gifting her with a horse, armor, and a priceless sword. He gave her the respect Hyle only pretended to give her, expecting nothing in return.
What has Hyle done on their road trip? When Brienne kills the three former Bloody Mummers, I'm curious: how long was Hyle there? At least long enough to see her and Pod burying Nimble Dick, but the way he's described sitting there casually makes me think he'd been there longer. Watching. Sitting back doing nothing while she might've been killed. And we don't know what his true motives are in following her. If she finds Sansa, is he going to help her get Sansa to safety--or is he going to betray her and try to turn Sansa in to the Crown for the reward?
If you want any further proof that she doesn't care about Hyle, think about who she tried to bargain for when Lady Stoneheart was about to hang them all. Not herself, and certainly not Hyle. Podrick, the boy. And when they were hanging, as she was dying. the only person she had eyes for was Pod.
And who did she presumably agree to kill Jaime for? Podrick.
Yeah. She's really going to come around on Hyle.

The last installment of The Reluctant Male Bridgerton Re-watch.
We sat down and binged the last 3 episodes as he was busy on Thursday evening and leaving on Friday morning. So here's the recap until season 3 (in no particular order)
1) "these two have the best chemistry. Much better than the first couple. But i think cuz one doesn't look so young. I have no idea how anyone will beat them." Kanthony for the win!
2) "they tease each other like brothers, they did great casting." A/B/C
3) "ooh, someone is scheming the other one. Is he playing her or is she playing him?" Lord Featherington and Portia
4) "I think Edwina has the right to be pissed. But how are they gonna fix it so those two can marry?"
5) "uhh, Eloise keeps going back to this guy. Remember when I thought it was gonna be the Footman? Oops, got that one wrong!"
6) "so Colin is starting to like Penelope now heh? it's good to see that cuz he was so hung up on the other one, I couldn't figure how he was gonna start liking Penelope but I can sort of see it happening now." Said after the cake-purpose scene. But he unfortunately changes his tune at the end of the episode.
7) "the acting is much better this season. Like everyone is good. I think the Bridgerton mom is really good. And the Queen is good too."
8) "I predict Portia kills Lord Featherington during the ball." Haha! What a scandal that would have been!
9) "I like that there are so many unresolved storylines going into season 3. Like the art guy and Penelope and Eloise. Like it's not just gonna be about a couple, other things are happening. Season 2 was better than season 1 for that too."
10) "not gonna lie, I like this over Pride and Prejudice. It has funny moments and more drama. I'm not as bored. I'll watch season 3 when it comes out." So another Bridgerton fan was made in less than a month, nice!
11) "I like that those two fought. Like it made them interesting, but I think they'll make up, before Colin and Penelope at least." Gosh, I really hope Peneloise are back in season 3.
12) "ouch, she's had a rough night. I thought he was supposed to be kind to Penelope? But I guess that's the way guys are, all talk and everything is for laughs. But the way he says it, I mean, damn!" He actually read the scene as Colin making fun of Pen. I wont post what he actually said cuz I vehemently disagreed that THAT is how the show meant for Colin to perceive Penelope. And I was a bit shocked he viewed it that way. Anyway, he thinks Penelope shouldn't forgive and move on. I spoiled him about the books and showed him the Season 3 pics in hopes to turn the tide. It's interesting to note that his view of Colin hasn't been overly favorable whereas I think Colin is a great character. More impassioned and impulsive than the books but overly a good guy. His views on Penelope aren't as clear. He loves her reactions mostly. Although he says she's a better character in season 2 over season 1.
13) "geez, this show sure likes to show the guys going downtown on the ladies. Its like the Bridgerton sex trademark!" OMG, 🤣
14) "Okay, is everyone just watching these two make out? The moms are right there!" Epilogue, haha
So that's it. It's been a lot of fun watching through the eyes of a non-Bridgerton fan. Kept me more honest. Both Colin and Penelope are not perfect, but I can't wait to see them grow and develop as individual characters and as a couple. Season 3 cannot come soon enough.
Thanks for sticking around! I encourage everyone who can, find a reluctant male (it doesn't have to be your spouse, mine was my ex) and do your own re-watch. We could start a series, lol!

One Piece NoPixel
Ever since the 4.0 launch of NoPixel (a private GTA Online roleplay server), my husband and I have become OBSESSED with the Yuno Sykk storyline going on.
Considering Sykkuno has been streaming NoPixel for roughly 8hrs every day, there's no way I can fully keep up, so my insomniac husband tends to give me recaps the following day. As he's telling me the story and is trying to get me to understand the relationship ties between characters I had an epiphany: Yuno is just Luffy from One Piece.
People already joke that Sykkuno has "plot armor" and is the "main character", so his GTA character Yuno being Luffy already kind of fits. Plus, both Yuno and Luffy are ADHD/Autistic balls of chaos that are also unintentionally beams of charisma that attracts just about everyone to their side. It doesn't matter how insane the plan is, if Luffy/Yuno says it people will follow through. You also have the fun of wondering if Luffy/Yuno is just insane with godly amounts of luck that allows their plan to work out, or if they are secretly geniuses that had already calculated everything in the background and the plan worked because of that discrete planning (or if it's a happy combo of the two). Luffy and Yuno are both almost impossibly optimistic and goofy, and people INSTANTLY know to take these boys seriously the second they become serious. If Luffy/Yuno stop smiling, you KNOW shit is about to go down! Also, Luffy/Yuno is INSANELY loyal and protective of his found family. On multiple occasions, Yuno has been informed that if he were to betray the speaker that would kill their last bit of faith in humanity, because if they know ANYTHING it's that Yuno doesn't lie and doesn't betray. Much like Luffy.
OK, so Yuno Sykk is Monkey D. Luffy (If Yuno's name wasn't just Sykkuno's I wouldn't be surprised if he had included the D. initial).
I then thought about those around Yuno. While the personalities don't work one-to-one, my husband and I were able to map a lot of Yuno's friends onto Luffy's simply based on relationship ties.
First is obvious. Yuno, through the 3.0 adoption chaos, ended up the adopted grandson of cop (and eventual Police Commissioner) Sam Baas. So, Baas is Garp. The fish-name connection is just a bonus.
Next up is the inspiration to both start an illegal lifestyle and to become the best possible at it. A pseudo-father-figure and mentor. The man whose blessings and pride in Luffy/Yuno is just about everything to the boy: Lang Buddha as Yuno's Shanks.
Luffy/Yuno couldn't get as far as he does without his true ride-or-die. The man who is loyal to a fault. Who will gladly give his life to not only save his best friend and brother, but also to simply lift him higher, if that's what's requested of him. A man who will smile as he participates in mass murder, and whose homicidal tendencies are surprisingly calmed when around Luffy/Yuno: Raymond Romanov as Yuno's Roronoa Zoro
The personalities don't really match, and YMMV when it comes to this ship, but 4.0 brought about Yuno's "relationship arc". This introduced us to a woman that Yuno loves spending time with, is very protective of, and joys in making her smile. She is there to comfort Yuno, but understands that he needs to do things his way and on his own sometimes. Yuno keeps saying that they're only best friends, and that may be true. He may honestly have no romantic interest in her, despite her obvious romantic interest in him. Even so, she's His Person and he wants to be with her and protect her as much as possible. If there's one person that Luffy/Yuno cares about that you DO NOT mess with, it's her. Ladies and gents, meet Yuno's Nami: Lottie Mae
On the flipside, we have a woman who started off as an enemy, but was instantly charmed by the lengths Yuno would go to in order to help someone that had threatened him. Someone who has family who viciously protects her. Someone who is completely smitten despite Yuno not really giving as many "I want to be in a romantic relationship" vibes as he does with Lottie. Someone who clearly has a jealous streak to her. The main person people seem to ship with Luffy/Yuno behind Nami/Lottie. Our own Tsundere Queen: Gigi Costello as Yuno's Boa Hancock
Next up is a man who is a more serious leader who doesn't approve of Luffy/Yuno's shenanigans, but he also can't deny the results, so he begrudgingly gives Luffy/Yuno free rein. He still tries to talk some sense into Luffy/Yuno and his friends, and they do listen to him on occasion, but those moments are few and far between. He also can't ignore Luffy/Yuno's charisma, and, in spite of himself, he's equally drawn in to the King of Chaos. Congratulations, Tommy T. You are Yuno's Trafalgar Law.
We then have someone who is older. Someone who is a bit of a mentor, but also would gladly follow Luffy/Yuno. Someone who was once a leader himself, but has since disbanded his own crew (or, at least, left them). Someone who is incredibly protective of Luffy/Yuno, but also understands that the kid can hold his own (for the most part). Someone who can't fathom Luffy/Yuno ever betraying anyone. Someone who is a master a steering??? This one is a little bit of a stretch, but my husband believes that Tony Corleone is Yuno's Jimbe.
Finally, we have someone who is a pseudo-ally to Luffy/Yuno, almost begrudgingly. Someone whose goals differ from Luffy/Yuno's and those differing goals caused tension for a bit before the two decided to break off from each other. Someone who has a sort of 1920s gangsta vibe with his underground gambling and mob-like connections. A man whose main goal deep down is to find a family of his own. Marty Banks as Yuno's Capone Bege
My husband also thinks that Benji Ramos would be Yuno's Sanji, mostly due to the incessant flirting with little-to-no success. Also, Mickey Sinclaire as Usopp due to Mickey being a cowardly schemer and master liar. I'm still on the fence for both of those. This list was largely mapping parallels on how these characters relate to Luffy vs how they relate to Yuno. The Benji and Mickey parallels are more about their personalities pairing with One Piece characters.
I think that will have to be a different list, though.
So, NoPixel/One Piece fans, what do you think? Does this work? Would you have picked other character parallels? Are there others we didn't think of?

I don't have super coherent thoughts about this but. Stuff like Dorothy asking Sophia what she'd do if she had a gay kid, Dorothy being friends (and v protective) of Jean who she's known since college (it being canon that Dorothy knows the details of Jean's coming out journey), Sophia multiple times basically assuming Dorothy is queer, the time Blanche assumes Dorothy is confessing feelings for her. IK that a lot of it was the writers weirdly mean attitude about Bea's looks (she's gorgeous, I hate that she was always made to feel ugly and unwomanly) but that doesn't subtract from the subtext existing that in-show there is definitely pretext for Dorothy being queer (/other people thinking she is).
YESS you're absolutely right anon!! There's so much queer subtext in the show, especially (but not even only) surrounding Dorothy.
You could write a lot of it off as "queer jokes for comedy purposes" but even so, it's especially prevalent with Dorothy, and even a part of some of the storylines that are treated more seriously (like the Jean storyline, but I'd also argue her marriage with Stan, who knocked her up when she didn't even feel remotely attracted to him. We don't know how her life would've turned out if that hadn't happened!)
The writers' attitude towards Bea's looks was so weird, yeah! She's beautiful! I'm pretty sure it was because every character needed a Thing for the writers to joke about (Rose being a ditz, Blanche a slut, Sophia a stubborn old lady) and there wasn't much in Dorothy's personality to latch on to, so they had to pick something superficial (and not necessarily true)? So honestly I'm not 100% sure the queer subtext surrounding Dorothy stems purely from the way they make fun on her looks? I may be wrong but it might just be that the writers needed something to make fun of -- and looks tend to be the go-to thing when there isn't much else to ridicule!
Anyway thank you for sending an ask, anon <3 so sorry I went on a bit of a tangent here ahah. I loved reading your thoughts (and if you ever have any more, you know where to find me -- and my ask box ;)

I honestly hate the Lucy UC storyline now. 1) she’s been in THREE Documentaries, one specifically about her going UC so it makes no sense (also not to mention Isabel outting her as a cop to that guy’s daughter, so maybe that’s were the storyline will go, he’ll try to get revenge on her for being a cop) and 2) she was upset about them not seeing each other much if she moved to a different station yet they wanted us to believe that she would have no problem going on a UC for 6 mths to a year and not seeing Tim (or Tamara)?!?! Like come on 🙄
For what's it worth, you're definitely not the only one feeling this way. I personally don't hate it, but I get it. This has been a bone of contention since s3, even more so lately. My biggest gripe at the moment is that, this storyline has been stagnant for so long, it's time to either commit, or give Lucy other opportunities. I wasn't sure if you were merely venting your frustrations or if you wanted me to answer : in case it's the latter, I'm gonna address your points but by no means am I trying to invalidate your feelings here. I'm just sharing my perspective on the matter.
Let's start with the documentaries. Honestly, at this point, I think we should simply take them for what they are : an opportunity for the writers to develop ridiculous plots and have fun, even though they don't make much sense… The last one was so over the top that I loved it - but I can understand that it's a bit hard to suspend your disbelief here… especially regarding the UC arc. I didn't mind Lucy being in them at first - or Nyla for that matter. Not to stereotype here, but I'm not sure the criminals she goes after watch these type of documentaries. And even if they were, they would still have to remember her specifically and there wasn't any particular reason to do so back then. I mean, so far, only one person in-universe has ever referenced these documentaries… and that lady was a director herself (5.06). That last one, on the other hand… Let's just say that outing Lucy as an undercover cop was definitely a choice… I almost feel bad for the criminals who went out of their way to be creative so they could get their hands on those UC lists, when really, all they needed to do was sit and watch true crime episodes. No respect for the craft! But more seriously : when the promo aired, I thought for sure that this issue was going to be addressed. I even wondered if I had missed a conversation or something after watching the episode. I guess, we're just supposed to pretend that it doesn't matter since not one single person raised the issue of Lucy being in the spotlight when she should be in the shadows. Then again, the LAPD doesn't see a problem with advertising a whole conference about covert operations… We clearly have a very different definition of secrecy. That said, maybe this will come back later and someone will recognise her. That's always a possibility - though it would seriously make the whole department look incompetent for not considering that ahead of time…
Another option would be to reopen the Teska plotline, as you suggested. The writers did leave the door wide open with all the loose threads, starting with how abruptly Lucy ended the op. Or how Isabel outed them as cop to the daughter, that's true. I have to say, I'm not completely convinced he would want to get revenge on Lucy. Sure, she lied to him about who she was. At the same time, she saved his kid's life, pushed him to make amends and get another chance with her and let him go free. She technically could have had him arrested : between the possession of a firearm and the conspiracy to commit murder, she had more than enough. I'm not saying the guy would become bestie with Lucy but out of all the people she's met while undercover, he's not the one with the biggest motive. Actually, I feel like Isabel would be a bigger target : after all, she's the one who infiltrated his gang and sent him to jail in the first place. Not to mention that his daughter knows how to contact her. But yes, he could always come back to wreak havoc. And as I mentioned earlier, he's not the only one. There's the female gang that might hold a grudge against Lucy. There are a couple of cartels that were crippled thanks to her. Any of her missions could come back to haunt her. But, and this is only my opinion, after spending three seasons filled with various vendettas from La Fiera, Elijah, Rosalind and whatnot, another plot like this would get old real fast. I don't think we need any more of these. Especially since Elijah is not fully over yet and we still have the ramifications from the finale to deal with. I'd rather Lucy just gives up on UC because she realises this is not for her. At least, it would be something different, you know what I mean?
And that leads me to your last point… Here's the thing : as upset as Lucy was at the idea of spending less time with Tim, she was still ready to move to another station, she still helped him get a new position that is notorious for their killer hours and she was still studying for the detective's exam. This didn't deter her at all. Obviously, this is different than being away for months on end, but she has been consistent in that regard. I understand the confusion and how illogical it sounds… But just because she was distressed about seeing Tim less, doesn't automatically mean she won't be able to handle being away. And just because she could handle it, doesn't mean she will want to do it. Speaking from personal experience here, it's a bit more nuanced - and complicated - than that I'm afraid. I only wish we would hear her perspective on all of this.
I also don't think that the narrative, or Lucy herself, was implying she would have no problem whatsoever with not seeing Tim (or Tamara) for a long period of time. I'm assuming you're referring to that last scene in 5.20, when she was worried about Tim not handling long term UC. As I see it, it was more about her trying to finally have an honest conversation with him about undercover, so they could hash everything out. This was introduced in 5.16, with Noah opening the can of worms, but they didn't get to the bottom of it since they had another conflict to take care of. Undercover is a bit of a sore point for Tim - for good reasons - and she knows it. She was there for the end of his marriage, she remembers his knee-jerk reaction when he found out she wanted to pursue undercover… He may fully be supportive now but she wants to gauge how he is truly faring with all of this. And after the events of the day (Isabel's return, their mini UC op…), it gave her the perfect opportunity to try to address this. She can guess he has been soldiering on for her and she doesn't want that. A place of honesty, remember. That's why she starts their conversation with : "Can I share something vulnerable with you?". She's putting herself in a vulnerable position by confessing how much she loves doing this job. She's trying to bring up the underlying issue in a way that wouldn't make him defensive. But a part of her has to also be afraid of his reaction. This isn't an easy situation. When she answers him "No. Um… I'm worried that you won't", it's because in that moment, her concerns are about him. Let's be honest, out of the two, he's the one more likely to have issues with this due to his past. She doesn't have the same baggage as him. And she's right to ask the question : how many of us have asked it? Apart from when she was his rookie or when he pushed her to go to the Academy, they've never talked about it. Only it's an important conversation to have if they want to spend their lives together. And they finally had it after her last mission. Another reason is that, in her case, she has something to counterbalance the hardship of not seeing Tim : doing something she loves. He, on the other hand, doesn't really have anything to outweigh this downside when she's away. However, he knew all of this from the start and still decided to start a relationship with her : simply being with her eclipses this drawback. This is what matters to him. But I can see why she would want to check with him if long-term undercover is something he can handle beforehand. It doesn't mean she doesn't have her own fair share of doubts. Now whether she can truly handle it… For the moment she thinks she can - and so far, she has. Maybe she's underestimating how hard it would be… and to be fair, it's not like she really has a frame of reference here. Listening to other people's experiences can only go so far…
If it helps though, I doubt Lucy will do too many long-terms undercover mission - if any - so all of this might end up being moot anyway. But I still believe the whole point of that conversation was to try to address the elephant in the room… They started opening up to each other, after several attempts, so maybe next season they will take a step further in that direction and explore Lucy's side of this, share some light on whether she has any doubts or worries. And hopefully, this storyline won't be in limbo for much longer. But again, this is just my perspective :)

I don't go here, but I really dislike how ubiquitous the notion has become in fandom that 'strong and independent woman' is somehow mutually exclusive with 'woman in a romantic relationship/prioritizing romance'. I feel like that's the kind of attitude that leads to terrible readings like 'The Little Mermaid is anti-feminist because Ariel gives up her voice for a man' which requires ignoring several key aspects of the film's plot and Ariel's character specifically (such as the fact that she sings Part of Your World before she ever lays eyes on Eric, and she spent her entire life collecting artifacts from the surface world and arranging them in her grotto), nevermind the fact that a story where someone falls in love and values that highly enough to make significant changes to her life to fight for it would still have value! Because love has value!
Like you said, just because there are a lot of cases where female characters are reduced to love interests and nothing else doesn't mean a female character caring about love and being motivated by love means she can't also be strong and independent. I feel like a lot of people just swing the pendulum way too far in the other direction and seem to think that being in love is what devalued those female characters, and not the fact that they were (by and large) written to be accessories for the male characters they were attached to and had nothing else to contribute to the story.
That is the problem, not romantic storylines themselves.
Precisely, anon! I'm really glad you brought up The Little Mermaid, both because the latest adaptation showcases how important intersectionality is (a black mermaid getting the "generic" love story is not the same thing as another white mermaid getting it) and because I've had similar gripes about many fans' readings of Cinderella. To be clear, I think the Disney + princess craze is a complicated subject with an equally complicated impact on kids, but a lot of people will attempt to simplify that conversation down to, "It's bad because she wants a man." Putting aside that this is not, as discussed, inherently a bad thing... did we miss the part where she's in a clearly abusive household, wants only to experience one fun night, and happens to meet the Prince without ever actively aiming for that to happen? This is a debate my friend and I have had for years, to the point where "Cinderella" is a bit of a code-word for, "We're never going to agree on this topic and others are getting annoyed at our impassioned arguments, so can we just move on now?" lol
I experienced similar frustration back when Jupiter Ascending came out and -- putting aside the quality of the film (or supposed lack thereof) -- people were up in arms about how terrible it is that the woman lead needs to be rescued by the guy, with the reason for that terribleness boiling down to, presumably, the idea that a woman is automatically weak if she needs help. Meanwhile, I was reading things through the lens of the show's realism (of course the average cleaning lady is not going to be able to fight off alien kidnappers without assistance) as well as the joy of seeing parts of myself in a Sci-Fi/Fantasy story. I'm not physically strong. I'm not a martial artist. I'm not someone who's going to immediately come up with a cutting remark and satisfyingly punch someone in the face. As cool as that archetype is, it's reductive to present a Strong and Independent Woman as solely physically strong and romantically independent. That definition should -- and does -- mean a thousand different things!
I do get it. I often have a knee-jerk reaction to certain writing choices for women (there was a maybe baby plot-line for one of Ted Lasso's characters this season that, far more than Keeley, I've been side-eying), but overall I try to approach each story as the individual text that it is. Yes, there are issues with these trends across media... but is this story actually falling into those stereotypes and harmful depictions, or have we just trained ourselves to reject anything in this category by default?

Something about the Amethyne I had a while ago is that Ziana's storyline would be different... (thanking Mousy for bringing the family up yesterday 😁)
I'm going to ramble a little bit about what I have for this topic that randomly came back, haha.
If Ziana's family didn't move out from the valley like the original would, Ziana would end up with Zayne instead. Ziana's mother is very close to Madam Maive since she (Ziana's mother) and her sister (Aelfdene and Sylvienne's mother) are the daughters of late Malivalaya (the late Farmer's wife) and Maive is very fond of Malivalaya's daughters much like how she was with Malivalaya. Malivalaya, at this time, had already passed away, leaving her husband and daughters on the farm. In my story, Maive would want to set her son, Zachary, up with Forsythia (Ziana's mother), because she loves Forsythia the most due to her kind and perfect behaviour, one would say, she could be the perfect 'Amethyne'.
Maive didn't want to force the relationship between them, though, and wanted the relationship to come on to its own since she knew that no man could fight for young Forsythia's hand. Zachary is, of course, enamoured by Forsythia's beauty, but Halcyon (Forsythia's sister) would always come between them whenever he tries to make a move on her. Long story short, Zachary lost to Emmett (Ziana's father, who later came to the farm from a story of his own). Forsythia has fallen for Emmett, and she only has eyes for him. Although Maive doesn't like who Forsythia chooses to be with, she is happy for her and her marriage with Emmett.
Years later, Forsythia gave birth to her eldest daughter, Ziana! And, of course, Zayne and Lorraine would probably be toddlers here. Maive was thrilled to see that Forsythia was having a child, similar joy she had when Malivalaya gave birth to her eldest. She showed her support to Forsythia when Ziana came to life, and when Ziana grew to the toddler stage, Maive had her eyes on her already. She could see something in her and wanted to have her as her future granddaughter-in-law. But for now, she kept the thought to herself and watched little Ziana and her younger sister, Astelle, grow. Another thing I have to mention is that Zayne, Lorraine, and Ziana were very close when they were little. Ziana and Astelle are often at the Amethyne Mansion since both of their parents are busy and are often away or unable to care for them at the time. (I think Ziana was close to the Amethyne family when she was little, possibly loved by Maive's husband, too, and Sonny would be the one to care for her and her sister at that time along with Zayne and Lorraine (?)).
In my original story, Maive wasn't able to keep an eye on Ziana long after Forsythia and her husband left the valley weeks after Malivalaya's husband (the late farmer) passed away. But in this alternative storyline, if Forsythia had a strong will after the passing of her parents, she'd remained and maintained the farm with her husband and sister.
Ziana couldn't become an adventurer nor get curious about her adventurering instinct at that time since she was sent to study, and when she returned, she would help her parents with the farm instead of exploring the valley. Later on, she would be reunited with Zayne, her childhood friend, since Maive was secretly excited to reunite the two again after years of separation. And that is where it all started, I suppose... Ziana became a delivery girl for fruits and vegetables for the Amethyne Mansion (Maive only trusted Ziana's parents' farm quality crop), and she became a delivery girl just to ease her parents' work. So, when she works, she often meets Zayne by chance in her duty and often greets him to catch up for old-time's sake. And with that, the two would grow close again.
Behind their smiles, the young man and lady hold secrets that no one knows. Discovering each other's hidden depths may be what fulfils Maive's long-desired wish...
Well, that's what I have. Do you guys read this? No? Future me will read again anyway. I hope that was enjoyable.

Ideas and AUs I wanna write for in regards to Trigun
Fun fact: I have so many drafts and too many ideas, so I need to get this down now before I forget and I'd love to get everyone's opinion on some of these. So honestly don't be afraid to comment or dm in regards to these ideas, I'm an open book when it comes to brainstorming.
Game of Thrones AU:
I am an avid fan of GOT, I have every book, spin-off, lore book the whole works, hell I even have the cookbook.
In regards to this AU, the twins would be veer off as Targaryens. Rem as their mother who married an unnamed Targaryen King (cause names be hard be I'll figure that out when I get to it), so Knives and Vash being the next in line, Knives the official heir to the throne.
Knives as he's the heir has a lot less freedom, often being ushered off to learn how to rule the kingdom and their nations. This deprives Knives of a childhood, so he's more serious and eventually grows power hungry in his later teens.
Knives has a dragon, which is just as temperamental as he is. The She-Dragon is white in colour with aqua accents, and she's greatly attached to Knives as he is to her.
Vash on the other hand is a lot more carefree and is often found among the people, along side his mother. He's a lot more distracted and at times caught sneaking off to the dragon pit to admire the beasts.
Unlike his brother Vash never got a dragon, his was one of the very few eggs that became Dormant. So he much prefers admiring the dragons and watching in awe as his brothers she-dragon grows to be one of the largest dragons in their possession.
Not to say Vash won't ever get a dragon, as he'll eventually Tame a pitch black male with pirple accents, that hasn't had a rider in 50 years.
Wolfwood would be the Stark of the AU, living in the North and defending the borders from deserters of the Wall. And yes this AU will include Vashwood, Vash would be crushing hard on the tough North man.
Being the only Lord of the land, Wolfwood has a pack of dire wolves. And no, he does not name them seriously, best believe there's a Princess among them.
Meryl and Milly would be lady's in waiting of Roberto's house, who a high lord serving the king and eventually becomes one of Vash's knights, who complains about babysitting the prince.
Meryl is a ward of Roberto's, and holds herself to high standards, yet isn't afraid to disobey her lords orders if she thinks they are counter productive.
Milly is much like Bren of Tarth, she wants to be independent and help her father (roberto in this AU) protect their House. Is very loyal, as Meryl would back up, a bit of a clutz but great with a sword.
Elendira in this AU would be Knives first child with a woman he is betrothed to. He hates the idea of an arranged marriage, but being the next heir to the throne he doesn't have much of a say unlike his brother. His first wife will mysterious vanish, never to heard of again once Knives officially becomes king.
Con'rad is the kings and Knives chief advisor aka Hand of the King and Maester.
Legato would be Knives Chief of War.
Livio is Wolfwoods ward aka bastard brother who ends up serving at the Wall by his own tuition.
Plot:
Now I do have a plot that I'm going with this, most likely if I am going to make this it will be a full fledged fanfixtion with chapters and lore and all that kind of backstory with GOT terms, languages, etc as this is based in said universe just without GOT Canon characters and of course a different story line.
I am considering whether I want my own personal Trigun OC in this, this AU is still in the planning stage so I'll be tossing up whether storylines will suit it and how they'd go without them.
On another note, I have two trigun x reader stories in my drafts and I plan on publishing one or the other this weekend if not both.
I'd love feedback on this au as it's in the planning stage, so again feel free to comment or dm me in regards to ideas and I'll keep you all posted on chapters and updates for this AU and where I'll be posting once I do get it in motion.
Thank you all for your patience, love you all 💜

"What do you think?"
"...I think you're...very beautiful."
"I should hope so. And just who might you be? What are you doing here?"
x~x~x~x
Yay, Halloween is almost here! And my "movie character costume" for Carewyn and Jacob's aunt Pearl Cromwell is definitely a combo breaker. Although all of my other entries in this series have featured dressing my characters up as animated movie characters, I decided on a live action movie villain for Pearl -- specifically Mombi from one of my favorite underrated childhood movies, Return to Oz! (As a side, it was bloody impossible to find good quality still image references for this dress!! I had to simplify it quite a bit simply because I had so little to work with.)
Honestly, when it came to thinking of a costume for Pearl, I was kind of at a loss, in the beginning. Both Pearl and Claire are decidedly more subservient to Charles's will than even fellow Clan member Blaise is, considering that Claire is such a passive and ignorant character and Pearl follows him out of a misguided sense of honor -- so casting either of them as incredibly powerful, malevolent, self-focused Disney villains like Ursula or Maleficent seemed incredibly out-of-place. And yet even more "realistic" villains like Mother Gothel seemed more in-line with Blaise personality-wise, since Pearl's style of parenting tends to lean more on sternness and stoicism ("just suck it up and stop complaining," basically), rather than manipulation and feigned, cloying affection. Even Lady Tremaine, who I definitely eyed for a while, didn't come across as that great a match for Pearl, since she's never been the sort to want to social-climb through her children or otherwise, nor is she the sort to get any satisfaction from her subjugation and abuse of others, instead being much more the type to justify it as a necessary evil.
What really shifted gears in my head was finding a villain that looked more like Pearl, and Mombi immediately came to mind, since her original head has reddish curls just like how I imagine Pearl's, although quite a bit shorter and lighter in color. (Mombi's hair actually better resembles mine, funnily enough!!) And then yeah, I made the connection -- Mombi in Oz may be incredibly intimidating in her own way, but she's ultimately subservient to the real mastermind, the Nome King -- just as Pearl is subservient to the mastermind in her storyline, her father Charles. Mombi is perfectly willing to keep a child captive in a mirror on the Nome King's direction -- just as Pearl arguably keeps her own children, Arsen and Kain, inside the stifling Cromwell Manor because Charles is determined not to "lose" any other family members like he did Lane. And in the Real World, Mombi's non-magical counterpart -- Nurse Wilson -- is a very cold, stoic, oftentimes cruelly dutiful character who still betrays a tiny shred of humanity, since she does actually jump into a rushing river to try to rescue Dorothy at one point and looks genuinely distraught (maybe for the sake of her job, but also perhaps sincerely) when it looks like Dorothy is going to drown. This too is very "Pearl" to me: she can come across as heartless a lot of the time, but she isn't pure evil. Admittedly Pearl isn't as vain as Mombi by a long-shot, but hey, can't win 'em all.
I decided to base the head in Pearl's hands on her deceased mother Marilyn, just as a little shout-out to the rest of the Cromwell line. And well, that kind of macabre touch is very true to the film, that's for sure! Return to Oz overall is a movie I know a lot of people see as nightmare fuel, especially in comparison to MGM's The Wizard of Oz, which it tries to be a sequel to but doesn't match in tone at all. For me personally, though, I loved both films as a kid and I still do -- I like the MGM film for its music, dancing, and innocence, Return to Oz for its real sense of danger and darker, more book-accurate whimsy, and both for the unique and likable characters they created.
Coming very soon: our last two main Cromwell Clan members, Claire and Charles, to finish off these Halloween sketches for the year!

Wowie! I wrote that Arthur/Reader ask and anon #2 who just replied with such an amazing analysis and twola, both of you, thank you so much! Really helped a lot, when it comes to my own opinion, which is basically the same as what anon wrote in their ask, I think Arthur definitely holds a special place for Mary in her heart, but his love for her now goes more toward the longing of a peaceful life and what could have been rather than longing for Mary herself, ofcourse he loves her in his own way and misses her, but if he did love her so much i think he would have chosen the gang over her when he was younger or even in Saint Denis, he didn't do that because maybe, he just loves the idea of what could be with or what could have been in the past instead of actually wanting to act upon it, Arthur himself says "it's coming to an end, this time it really is" which proves he has given her hope of running away before this as well and hasn't gone through with it, and I think it is the same with Mary's perspective, she loves the idea of Arthur not being an outlaw, but as Arthur says, he never knew any other way of life other than being an outlaw, so Mary also sort of, has an ideal version of Arthur in her head, and she also longs for what could be. Coming back to Arthur though, I think he longs more for that peaceful life and how he had the chance but lost it rather than being absolutely head over heels for her and going "if not Mary, then no one else.", I mean, if it were to be that way, they would have never given him a second love interest, Roger himself said that Mary was just supposed to be one quest but then later on they decided to keep her (most likely after removing the second love interest), so I am pretty sure how it was originally supposed to play out was for Mary to ask for Arthur's help in Valentine and that was the first and last time we see her in the game, and then the second love interest develops. I think it was an okayish decision overall to add more Mary quests after cutting off the second love interest, I would have rather known more about Eliza and Isaac, this one post from Tumblr user @/americanoleander I read describes mostly of what I'm trying to say :
"im not a mary linton hater persay, i dont like her but i do think people villianize her a bit too much. however, i really wish we'd just learned more about eliza and isaac than her. the fact that arthur had a whole ass family that died and is only mentioned once but his fleeting and doomed from the start romance with a lady thats given near to nothing for her personality outside of "high society lady who used to date arthur" is given two whole missions is a little fustrating
id say ideally both could exist but tbh i just found the whole mary linton story to be shoe-horned in, as much as i ship arthur with every person under the sun i dont think the story *needed* romance if it was gonna be as flat as mary linton felt. the idea of her and arthur is very tragic but thats just the problem- it felt more like an *idea* rather than an actual plot point."
I agree mostly with some things they said, but this one line :
it felt more like an *idea* rather than an actual plot point.
Really stuck with me, personally I do like Mary Linton and sort of have a huge crush on her(😭), yet, I just cannot help but wish we got to see more of Eliza and Isaac or just hear what Arthur's thoughts were about them and how their deaths deeply affected him even to this day, i hate how they just completely threw all of that away and made it so that he doesn't discuss it even once until chapter 6, and make it seem like all he thinks and yearns for is Mary Linton when his character is so much deeper than just that. It would have made the story flow in a better way if they did add more about Eliza and Isaac and also would've given so much more depth to Arthur's character, making it seen like those two didn't even exist for 99.9% of his storyline was such a bad idea in my opinion.
And that’s where we come to fandom. The joy of it is that it’s free of rules and not necessarily bound by canon.
Don’t like Arthur x Mary? Don’t read it! Don’t like the characterization someone has of an x Reader? Move on. Unlike the canon, we are given the choice of what storyline we want to consume.
Personally, I think there is room for an x Reader, but then again, that is my personal opinion and i don’t expect everyone to agree with me. The nuances of someone’s own feelings can be vast about the fandom. And those viewpoints make it great.

All the emojis, please! For Jon Snow!
Thank you! :3
🐅 - Characterization: character habits, personality, etc.
Before he thought about joining the Night's Watch, Jon had really intense teenage angst over running out of time to reach greatness. You know, "Barristan the Bold got his nickname by thirteen! The Kingslayer was knighted at fifteen, and I still lose to Robb when we train together!! At my age, The Young Dragon was already conquering Dorn!!!" kind of thoughts, followed by morose confidence that after eighteen, all chances to become a hero are over.
🦄 - Characters' physical appearance.
I strongly believe that Jon is short. Not even average height like Ned: if they met again when Jon is all grown up, Jon still would be shorter. And when they finally meet with Sansa, she's also going to be a bit taller :3
💖 - Romantic relationships or ships.
Jon/Val is going to be endgame, much to everyone's frustration, because Martin can't be assed to flesh Val out further than "cool and sexy warrior lady".
Lol, I mean, I think it's pretty clear by now that Jon and Dany (and possibly Tyrion) will become a thing at some point and there's going to be a lot of messy feelings on all sides. And while I doubt Dany's storyline will be the same *insert complicated headcanon here*, I think Jon's series ending got some of the main beats right. Basically, I think he will survive the final battle and feel like he outlived his propose, break up with/betray Dany in some non-stabby way, get disconnected from the society and move beyond the (destroyed forever, tyvm) Wall to that tower he and Ygritte talked about to mope in peace, get rare visits from the family and surviving friends and have casual sex with Val.
💛 - Familial relationships.
Growing up, he and Robb were crazy competitive over everything, from who learns Ned's bannermen's sigils faster (Robb) to who can hold their breath underwater the longest (actually Theon, but he doesn't count because he's older, so Jon). But while for Robb it's always been in good fun, Jon really needed to win every single time and had to learn not to get upset at least outwardly.
🕊️ - Platonic relationships (friends, enemies, etc).
This one is heavily affected by the show, and I recognise this. Still, I maintain that, while they can't stand each other, Jon and Thorne recognise that they both are actually competent people, of which there's a real shortage on the Wall. So if Thorne returns from his raid while Jon is dead, he's going to be really pissed about his assassination. He's going to be even more pissed when Jon comes back to life.
🗡️ - Fighting styles/combat.
While Jon is outstanding at sword fighting by the Watch's current standard, he still has a lot to learn and is not a legendary fighter.
✨ - Worldbuilding or background story elements.
Jon was really fascinated with Luwin's telescope (called Myrish eye here, apparently) and would constantly bother him to get to look through it. He had to stop himself from asking the same from Aemon, when he first arrived at the Wall.
🍁 - Physical locations, flora & fauna.
Jon can easily withstand cold and actually loves snow and winter, but can't bear hot weather. If this boy ever gets to the Reach, not to mention Dorn, he's getting cooked immediately.

eep omg so super duper cool to see another ai.tsf self shipper!! i love u date fans u warm my heart. please use this as an excuse to dump info about your insert lore or your feelings on the game(s) themselves especially with info you havent shared before!! donut be shy. have a great new year too!!!!!!!! :)
AAAAGH HI HELLO BOUNCING AROUND YOU LIKE A PUPPY!!!! i only know three other people who like ai !! date fans are almost always the coolest and funniest people you've ever met and know what they want in a man (wet and pathetic forever) and i respect the date fans. I'm not tooting my own horn btw I'm saying this for the people that will be reading this ask lol date fans are so silly. this is date btw for anyone who doesn't know what the fuck im rambling about
Tumblr media
gushing about the game is basically impossible without spoiling everything because the mystery is REALLY SILLY but also really well written and laid out over time. the characters in the game are very lovable and I guess pretty realistically written, not from a realism standpoint but in how they react to any given thing in the storyline. they're varied and fun and have a lot of personality to each of them, and I would literally fucking kill for any of the main cast given the chance.
and the sequel!! the sequel is a little weak and a bit slippery and not as well put together in comparison to the first one, but it's still just as charming and you don't necessarily have to play the first game to understand what's going on - there are vague references to the lore in the first game, but it doesn't detract from the fact that this IS a new cast of characters, and i really appreciate the fact!! there's a lot going for it in terms of charm and personality, and the new characters seem to be a bit less whimsical and more grounded than in the first game (fucking looking at you tokiko shigure. holy shit)
i feel like I never do anything justice gushing about it because I will always forget something and then be like "fuck I forgor" and rush to add details so I'm just gonna leave my gushing about it at that lol
ANYWAYS!! UM. talking about my self insert under the cut :3
so. juniper is my self insert, they're from america and they moved to japan for reasons I haven't decided upon yet but they get a job at a local flower shop run by a very brash old lady whose family never come visit her and it turns out it's because she's in the middle of a yakuza turf war. the kumakura family bought out the basement space of her shop and had her under their thumb. juniper was just stupid enough to get involved in hopes to help the woman who keeps them fed, but there's no way to do that. juniper unfortunately has no choice but to cross paths with these men, but one in particular is more kind than the others, and has bought flowers from them on occasion - a specific type of iris :3c
the old woman dies shortly before the events of the first game and they've taken charge of the flower shop, and they've been meeting date upon happenstance every so often. because of the eventual discovery of the kumakura gang being affiliated with several suspects in the cyclops killings, juniper has become entangled in the case, and date actually has his reasons to suspect that jun has something to do with the case, which leads him to having to psynch with them at some point!! but they have a few other ties to the lore that could be considered heavy spoilers :)
juniper is besties with pewter!! he is their only friend for very specific reasons, and they spend time out drinking when he isn't on the job. they talk very vaguely about their crush on date and it takes pewter a whole long while to figure out that they're both talking about the other when he has to be subjected to it. he initially thinks "wow this is just like my doujins" when jun is first talking about meeting a very beautiful man at the flower shop who keeps coming around and they meet at strange times, and then it devolves into pewter going from that and happy for them to "oh you're fucking joking, THAT GUY??" when he learns it's been date the whole time
anyways. coughs. juniper has a big dumb crush on date but they go against most of his Types; i mean on top of not being a Busty Older Woman, they are a tiny nonbinary thembo and they're a bit of a punk; they've had some of their mentor's brash personality rub off on them, but they generally are fairly kind to people that come around, they just have to keep up that hard exterior to be seen as a big enough threat to the kumakura gang (moma has a bit of a crush on them but that would never come to fruition in the same way that the iris thing never did - mostly because jun is too stupid to notice that he likes them)
date likes them because of their pretty face and kind heart hidden behind their hard exterior - they're very tired of having to hold up a strong personality all the time for their safety, and simply want to make people happy with their flowers. they're sweet and a little clumsy and are kind of similar to iris and hitomi in several ways, but they're a little more um. rough around the edges and awkward i guess? not to mention their japanese still isn't completely perfect despite having lived in japan for as long as they have (over 6 years). so he finds it all endearing in a weird way but it does take a bit before he has the "ogh fuck" moment, because he's a bit superficial underneath it all
jun is suuuuper supportive of iris and is also a big fan of a-set !! they want to meet her in person at some point - and they do!! mizuki is like their adoptive daughter and eventually they do take on a parental role for her, specifically in the 6 years that date goes missing between games. ota is okay, jun and ota do not get along very well and most of that has to do with them competing for otaku of the group
umm that's about all I can wrack my brain for right now but umm thank you for sending me this ask and happy new year to you!! 💙💜💙💜

Okie dokie, new post in my October Dracula binge. If you missed my last one, it's here on my blog if you wanna find it under #dracula
So, next movie we've got is Dracula (1931). They switched out my good friend Jonathan Harker with Renfield, and he was the one to go to Transylvania, where he proceeded to totally lose it and become Dracula's weird little minion, and is yeeted to an asylum. Interesting choice to do that, saves my boy Jonathan some trauma.
Interesting angle they've gone with in introducing the characters together, I feel like Jonathan isn't as much as an effective protagonist without having gone through his Trauma™, that's like his entire character arc, and they put that all on Renfield and made him Dracula's lackey.
Point for making van Helsing weird old dude, however he just straight up comes out and says Yeah, we've got a Vampire instead of his Chronic Withholding Information Disease.
Dr Seward is in it, which is a plus, but they made him old, and didn't retain his Bitchless Swag, and he doesn't have as much of a close relationship with van Helsing. Seward did respond rather well to the vampire news, considering that Lucy is entirely unaffected by Vampire Disease at this point, which is the main driving plot for a good portion of the book.
Point off for making Dracula into a relatively sexy dude, where Lucy is into him at first. They also seem to be remixing Lucy and Mina, with Mina being the one to first be fed on by Dracula, but Lucy did still die and is seeming to be the Bloofer Lady. Mina is bit and in the process of Vampiring.
I am curious as to how the characters didn't somehow make the connection of Renfield going on a trip to Count Dracula's castle and returning (excuse the pun) batshit crazy, and the count turning up in town at the same time that Renfield returned, having completely lost it. I would assume, that Renfield being a patient of Seward, that Seward would be aware of Renfield's history and drawn some sort of connection.
Lucy is hardly in the movie at all, and as such, Arthur and Quincey are not in it at all. I would have at least liked to have some of her storyline beyond just dying.
Mina and Jonathan are having their storyline relatively accurate of the end bits, where Dracula made Mina drink his blood and now she's slowly becoming a vampire, and Jonathan is drinking his Victorian Respect Women Juice.
Props to Martin, an asylum worker, who is channeling Quincey P Morris and just shooting at the bat.
Dracula did die, but I would prefer if we actually got to see it. I love brutal vampire murders. He still got satisfactorily dead though, and Mina and Jonathan got their good ending. Also, though, it's implied that Lucy turned into a vampire, but we didn't see her dealt with, so it looks like she's still just out there, eating children.
Overall, solid adaptation, I enjoyed it a lot. I would have preferred to have had Jonathan still go to Dracula's castle more than Renfield cause Jonathan didn't get any character arc or development and they could have just as easily had him go, but oh well. All in all, it was actually relatively accurate, and a good time to watch, I give it a 9/10.

Very curious about what the Mu third gen personalities are like, there designs are very cute and pretty
Hiii thanks for the question!! I worked really hard on their designs and colors so I'm really glad you like them! Personality ramble under the cut cause it's quite long. Also, spoilers ahead for the FMC storyline.
From oldest to youngest:
Mu Beiyan: In my mind, a lot of pressure has been put on Beiyan ever since he was a kid, and even more so after he became the crown prince. He feels obligated to succeed, not only for his parents and family, but for the empire as well, so he always tries to finish his assignments and solve problems as effectively and efficiently as possible. As his father would have.
Even though, deep in his heart, he doesn't want to be emperor and wants to go back to those days of playing with Lingxi and flying kites, he knows that those days are over, and he needs to grow up if he's going to inherit the throne. He's still playful and a bit childish buried deep underneath the more responsible, serious, and often sleep deprived exterior. Even though he's been praised from every direction, Beiyan still feels inadequate and feels that other officials and even Xiurong would make a better emperor than he would.
Mu Lingxi: Lingxi's Doukou redesign is what kickstarted this whole thing. I imagine she's more refined and more confident than she was as a child. A true lady that her mom would be proud of. She greatly respects Ling Ruo and Xu Rongyuan and is often torn inbetween becoming a female official and being a physician.
She still loves tanghulu and bunnies and is kind and cheerful and still a bit of a cry baby. She also misses the days when she was a child and things were simpler, but she also understands that she has grown a lot. Mostly, she misses Beiyan. He's grown so busy that they can't see each other as often as they once did. She often tries to have tea parties with he cousins but the only ones who show up consistently are Jinghua, Jingfei and Hualing.
Mu Jinghua: Jinghua is the oldest of the two twins, mostly referred to as A-hua by her mother and brother. She comes off as mean-spirited and haughty at first, using her appearance as a leverage and generally acting above many of the nobles, but it's all an act she puts on as she's wary of other palace folk. Her branch of the family is looked down upon because of the stunts her father tried to pull to take the throne.
If you get to know her, she's actually kind and clumsy. The definition of sweet, if a bit gloomy. She feels that she's stifled as a noble lady and wants to do more with her life, but she's scared of change and wonders if anyone will accept her, even if she's the daughter of Mu Lingfeng. She wants to be something, anything, other than his daughter.
Mu Jingfei: Jingfei is the younger of the two twins, mostly referred to as A-fei by his mother and sister. Jingfei doesn't put on the same mean exterior Jinghua does. He mostly spends his time at the Ginkgo institution, being mentored by Xiao Qian and Xu Rongyuan so he's not around nobles as often as his sister is. Most people coming in don't care about his parentage and just wants to be treated.
He's a giant sap and always wants the best for his patients. He often worries about them long after his shift had ended. He's definitely more sensitive than Jinghua. Even still, he resents his father greatly and refuses to address him as 'father' at all. He's seen how the burden of the throne weighs on Beiyan and questions if that was what Mu Lingfeng wanted, and if he had successfully taken the throne, would Jingfei be put in Beiyan's position? Would Jinghua be in Lingxi's?
Mu Xiurong: From a young age, Xiurong has been taught by her mother how to think critically, get out of messy situations with her words and deal with court affairs and drama. At the same time, she was being taught by her father on how to ride a horse, wield a weapon and how to defend herself. For these reasons, she's always kept to herself and put on a blank face to prevent people from predicting her next move, whether that be mental or physical. She wants to make both her parents proud, even if she's young.
She's very loving and worries about her younger brother and Beiyan often. Since she's aiming to become a court official like her mother, she's often the one by Beiyan's side during the day and deal with situations with him. Xiurong doesn't like to think of the relationship between her and her brother as a rivalry, but occasionally will give Renshu a reason to keep trying to surpass her in skill, just because it's funny. She actually can't participate in much strenuous activity since she has a bad leg.
Mu Renshu: Growing up, Renshu was given all of the same opportunities as his older sister was, but whenever his mother taught him he quickly became bored and would want to go outside to train. That quickly changed when his mother mentioned something about Xiurong being easier to teach for both her and Lingchuan and suddenly, Renshu was determined to surpass his sister in something. Even though they have a three year age difference and he'll have a lot of catching up to do.
He's stubborn and unrelenting, if a bit childish and immature. Even though he knows he wields a sword better than Xiurong, it doesn't change the fact that she can ride horses better and has better handwriting. His one sided rivalry is mostly in good fun, but sometimes, he does get discouraged that Xiurong is looked upon more favorably than he is. Still, he worries about her and often asks how her health is.
Mu Hualing: Hualing was adopted by Xu Rongyuan in an impulse decision. A patient of his had died in childbirth and her family was unwilling to take the baby, since it was illegitimate. Rongyuan and Linghao is trying to raise Hualing the best they can, asn she loves them, and recognizes them as her dads. She's unaware of her actual parentage but she knows she's adopted.
Hualing, or 'Lingling' (as in the sound of a bell) as nicknamed by her family, often follows her cousins around if she's not in school or doing homework. If she's following her cousins around, it often means she's avoiding school work. She curious and inquisitive with a love of Osmanthus cake and anything that could be made into a percussion instrument. She finds Jinghua quite fascinating, copying hairstyles in an attempt to be close to her. Jinghua things it's adorable.
Also these alignment charts I made because I thought it'd be funny

"damn, I see you still kick it with them opp bitches I'm the only reason that your goofy-ass got bitches all them hoes wanna look like me bitch most likely only fucking you just to spite me but please don't get it twisted, I ain't tripping."

♡ pronouns used: she / her
♡ note: not checked for grammar or spelling mistakes / finally got to write for my new york king and i'm so happy about it and i swear my next fic will be the last one for max for a while lmaooo
Tumblr media
you shook your head right in disbelief as you watched the monitor showing you mjf's heated discussion with cm punk. you knew max loved what he did but he threw low blows when it benefitted him and sometimes you were the one who was at the end of the joke. not shawn, not anyone who was forced to participate in his stupid storyline but you.
"how do you deal with that?" kiera asked you as you shrugged, not really knowing how to respond, "when you've been with max as long as i have, you kind of get used to it. it does get tiring, don't get me wrong, but i don't really have a choice."
kiera shook her head not believing your words, "come on, you're one of the greatest on the roster and you think your only chance to shine is with him?" you sighed going down on your chair trying to change the conversation, "have you ever thought that others might be here to help you? even take you under their wing?"
you knew she made a point. you had met max in the indies, the two of you forming a tag team before either of you signed to aew but once the two of you officially signed, you knew you'd be max's manager.
"who'd be willing to do that? the baddie's have enough members and i'm not really close to anyone here," you replied. kiera didn't respond as she knew you were in a bit of a standstill, "still watching that idiot?" you heard the thick new york accent coming from behind you. you turned over to eddie, your mood instantly turning around, "hey kingston! what're you doing here? i thought you didn't have a match on the card tonight?"
kiera stood off to the side, half watching your interaction and half still still trying to figure out what your next move could be, "why don't you team up with him? i bet cm punk would love to make max's life hell by you siding with him," eddie gagged at the sound of cm punk's name but didn't say anything.
"nah, that dog collar match was more than enough to not get me involved," you replied, still not believing the amount of blood those two lost that sunday night, "what're you guys talking about? that doesn't matter, let's go!" max's voice interrupted the conversation, rather loudly you had to add.
you rolled your eyes but eddie was the one who stood up, "listen to the lady for one god damn time in your life," he yelled back just as loud. max let out a chuckle, basically stating that he wasn't going to even bother with eddie, "max, i'm busy. better yet, weren't you the one that said "you don't need some slut you found on the indies running behind you" and "i can do fine on my own" or am i hearing things?"
max scoffed, "you're really mad about that? let's go and we can talk about it later," you shook your head no, remaining in your spot, "i'll stay right here," you were standing by this point but you were still in the middle of eddie and kiera who didn't know what to do besides back you up.
"you need me." "i need a fucking therapist after the years i spent with you."
eddie tried to suppress his laugh, as did kiera, but the two couldn't hold it in anymore and started laughed. you knew this was going to upset max a lot more than you had intended but you were on a roll.
"don't call me when you're buried in with the low cards and i have the aew world title," this time it was your turn to laugh, "remember what you punk told you?" max's eyebrows fluttered in anger, "the only time you'll be number one is when you're married to tony's family." you knew the night that punk told max that he'd never be champion unless he married his way in, he was hurt and that was to put it lightly.
eddie let out another belting laugh not believing you told max that to his face. max walked away, anger seething through his body as wardlow walked in, giving you a high five. you knew michael was on his way to start his feud with max but he never expected you to do the same. the way he saw it, you looked like you were going to be with max forever.
+
weeks passed as max was now in full swing in his feud with michael. you were working your way through a tournament to be the number one contender for the women's championship. you were facing julia hart tonight and you knew you had to be prepare for it.
"watch out, max might interrupt your match to make you lose," michael said as you were bandaging your wrists, "he'd be a real idiot to do that," you replied as you saw eddie walking into the locker room.
"got that stupid coffee of yours," he said handing you the steaming cup of starbucks coffee. you smiled, grabbing it from him, "take care of her. she's like a sister." michael stated as he got up to leave. you threw him a towel from your locker space as he dodged it with ease.
you had been associating yourself with eddie, santana, and ortiz after your fallout with max. you were just rolling in the back of the group, helping them when they needed an extra push of help.
it was very surprising to many to see you with eddie. from an outsiders perspective, it looked like the two of you weren't even friends. you were always with max and michael so when you walked out with eddie, holding a nail covered bat and backing him up against the jericho appreciation society, people questioned where the partnership had came from.
max on the other hand saw it coming from the minute you broke off your partnership with him. eddie was there that night with kiera and he couldn't believe that you would actually associate yourself with someone like eddie when you had him by your side.
"nervous?" eddie asked. you waved it off, "never. julia has her own problems with house of black and varsity blonds. this is an easy win for me," you said. eddie nodded proudly, "see, ain't this better than being with that fuckin' piece of shit?"
"tell me about it," you joked taking another sip of your coffee. you were tightening your belt on your jeans as eddie sat next to you in comfortable silence, "you guys walking me out?" eddie nodded as he told you that santana and ortiz were more than excited to help you out tonight.
"this means a lot. i know i wasn't even supposed to be with you but i didn't really know what to do after i left max and you guys kinda just accepted me," you confessed. eddie shook your comment off, "you worked your ass off to be here and you deserve it."
you looked up to eddie as you had been laying your head on his lap. something about eddie's colored eyes mesmerized you. you knew eddie didn't open up to a lot of people so it was surprising that he was so vulnerable with you, "you really need to take credit for your work ethic," eddie on.
you brought eddie down for a kiss, not caring if someone walked in or not. he let out an amused chuckle but deepened the kiss knowing he felt the same feelings you clearly had for him. the kisses between max and eddie were very different.
max had this smugness to his kisses. it was like he forced himself to kiss you each time you did but eddie was very different. his were soft and slightly rough. he had a hand on your stomach and held it with a stern grip. he knew he couldn't be too rough considering your gear did show your stomach and he didn't want others to think something else.
"letting out all your emotions, huh?" eddie asked jokingly. you shoved him to let yourself up as you noticed your phone alarming you that it was almost time for your match, "come on kingston, i got a match to win," you stated.
the two of you walked out of the locker room as you pulled on your jean jacket. santana had helped you tighten your bandana before one of the producers said you only had a minute before your match. you noticed max sitting in the back seemingly trying to blend in with the producers which alerted your red flags.
"stay ringside i feel like max might pull some shit," you told the three as your theme rang off through the speakers. you walked out to the crowd cheering you on as eddie walked next to you and santana and ortiz walked behind, "do well out there sweetheart," eddie said as you jumped into the ring.
you noticed julia's very unamused look on her face practically stating to put her out of her misery so she could leave and not deal with brian or griff on her side.
"come on ( your name )," eddie screamed from the side as you got to flip julia onto the mat. you went to grab her leg to tap her out but the commotion from the side of the ring made you realize that what michael had said was true. max really wanted to ruin your chances, "pay attention to your match!" eddie yelled to try and not make you worry.
julia had managed to get you into a headlock instantly making you want to tap but hearing max's cackles from ringside made shove julia away of you. you threw her to the ropes as she hit them with a hard thud giving you enough time to get to max.
you got on top of the turnbuckle and jumped off with a kick to max's face. he flew against the railing making eddie yell in support. you were quick to get up as you realized that your match against julia was still going on.
julia still looked a bit out of it but you on the other hand were running off of pure spite against max. you grabbed julia by the arm and did a german suplex to end the match. you knew julia didn't care for her loss with varsity blonds so you instantly looked down to max who was still on the ground getting a beating from eddie, santana, and ortiz.
you grabbed a mic from the producers as you bent over the top rope to look at max.
"well max? didn't i tell you? i'd become something even without you by my side," you screamed, "and it looks like i'll have a chance at the title before you do which is very ironic considering backstage you had told me that you'd be world champ before i became one. you aren't shit without me or wardlow and it's showing. you have shawn chasing your shadow which is embarrassing because it's shawn. with eddie, santana, and ortiz by my side, you'll be buried in the low cards right alongside shawn."
by the time you finished your speech, the crowd was cheering for you as loud as they could as eddie stood next to you. you smiled at him as he grabbed your hand discreetly and held it for support.
"so you can replace me with another girl, you can try and intimidate me with someone else on the roster by that won't change the fact that i'm becoming a number one contender for the women's title and you're going to be fighting for your life against wardlow later tonight and yes i've noticed that the girls you've been trying to make me jealous with look eerily similar to me and it's kind of embarrassing. next time try not to make it so noticeable."
you blew him a kiss before getting out the ring and walking away, feeling like you were on top of the world with eddie by your side.

What is your opinion in Lucy being UC? Because for me it doesn't make sense. She has literally been in like 3 documentaries. I feel like that is too much exposure for her.
And there is the whole Tim issue. I don't think Tim will ever be truly okay with her being a UC.
I think i would rather her just be a detective.
Personally… I'm relatively divided on the whole UC storyline, documentaries aside. I can't say that this is the path I imagined Lucy taking, as it seems rather antithetical to who she is and what she wants. At the same time, I do like seeing her undercover, playing different characters, getting more and more confident... There's one aspect in particular that I love : it's how covert ops taps into her background. Being a former psych major helps her create these different personae and adapt to the situation at hand. But more than that : she can draw on her life experience to guide her. She has tried different things before joining the Academy and that gave her a wealth of knowledge that she can use to her advantage. Psychology alone isn't enough for her, she needs the action, the danger… Undercover work gives her the opportunity to combine both aspects.
That said, I'm curious to see how this type of work could affect her. Being isolated, constantly being on edge, not seeing her loved ones for long period at times, leaving people behind, living a lie… It can get too much, real fast, especially for someone as empathetic as her. So far, she hasn't really seen that ugly side of the work, the one we've heard so much about… I think this is something she needs to experience so she can make an informed decision. But even if she decides that being a UC isn't for her after all, she can still work in covert ops. There is more to it than just being undercover. Or she could indeed just be a detective. At the end of the day, she is beginning her career, it's normal that she is still figuring it out. She deserves that chance. And that's why I want her to make the final decision on her own terms, whether she stays on track for undercover work or change path. So as nonsensical as it might be to send her undercover after the documentaries, I'm at least glad that this isn't used as a random reason against her, to prevent her from going forward with her career (at least, for now).
As far as the documentaries go… I actually already discussed this, so I hope you don't mind if I basically repeat what I wrote. At this point, I think we should simply take these documentaries for what they are : an opportunity for the writers to develop ridiculous plots and have fun, even though they don't make much sense… The last one was so over the top that I loved it - but I can understand that it's a bit hard to suspend your disbelief here… especially regarding the UC arc. I didn't mind Lucy being in them at first - or Nyla for that matter. Not to stereotype here, but I'm not sure the criminals she goes after watch these type of documentaries. And even if they were, they would still have to remember her specifically. I mean, only one person in-universe has ever referenced these episodes… and that lady was a director herself, who didn't apparently recognised Lucy (5.06). That last one, on the other hand… Let's just say that outing her as an undercover cop was definitely a choice… When the promo aired, I thought for sure that this issue was going to be addressed. I even wondered if I had missed a conversation or something after watching the episode. I guess, we're just supposed to pretend that it doesn't matter since not one single person raised the issue of Lucy being in the spotlight when she should be in the shadows. Then again, the LAPD doesn't see a problem with advertising a whole conference about covert operations… So we clearly have a very different definition of secrecy. That said, maybe this will come back later and someone will recognise her. That's always a possibility - though it would seriously make the whole department look incompetent for not considering that ahead of time…
I also touched on the whole Tim issue in another ask, so here's what I wrote. Tim absolutely knew about all of this and still decided that it was worth the risk. He was aware of her choice of career long before he even realised his feelings for her. From the moment she graduated, he's been nothing but supportive towards her goal. He was the one to convince her to go to the UC Academy. He asked her out mere days/weeks after she last went under (seriously, that was the episode right before). Undercover work is even the reason why they got together in the first place… which is so ironic when you think about it. When he said they were worth taking the risk, he meant it. Just like when he told Isabel that Lucy was different, I have no doubt he also meant it. He has some experience in the matter, he has some inklings as to what being separated for months truly means. And let's not forget that he knows what's it like not to be supported… Ashley was trying to make him quit his job because she suddenly wasn't okay with it - I can't see him doing the same to Lucy. I believe that Tim's biggest challenge will be to express his feelings, since he tends to internalise them. That's why I'm glad that he and Lucy were able to set boundaries and open up about this. They can only make it work if they're both honest and communicate with each other.
And last but not least, your last point about preferring Lucy to just be a detective. That's perfectly fair - and I know you're not the only one feeling this way. For what it's worth, even if she were to stay in covert ops, odds are she would mostly work as a detective (provided that she passes the exam, of course, and she doesn't get blocked). I seriously doubt the writers will create a different persona for every episode - it would get old fast - or let her spend too many episodes undercover… It's a procedural after all. I'm a bit unsure as to where the writers are going here… But The Rookie was first and foremost a show about patrol. That was what distinguished it from other cop shows. So far, we already have Nyla and Angela as detectives… Having Lucy doing UC might simply be a way for them to keep things fresh and avoid having three regular detectives.
I hope this answers your questions :) (I also hope you won't mind the copy-paste of previous answers but since the asks were pretty similar, it was faster this way - this isn't a knock against you at all. It's also a good reminder that I need to up my tagging game).
