Gyomei and his Butterflies
We were ROBBED!!! I needed an entire chapter dedicated to them! The fact that Gyomei has such a close personal bond with so many characters is so interesting but none of it gets properly developed because of how much of a background character my man is 😤
Also they are grown in this drawing they just look so little compared to him lol

A brief AU idea: Double Kochou
Ok, but like... an AU in which Flower Pillar Kochou Kanae and Insect Pillar Kochou Shinobu are concurrently a thing? Like, before Muichiro comes in, there would be enough spots for that many Pillars, and since they are of different Breaths it wouldn't be like, say, Kyojuro politely waiting in line to take up the Flame Pillar role. Shinobu, despite being a Pillar with her own Pillar missions, would still practically be attached at the hip to Kanae when they are at Pillar meetings, everyone else would see them like a "someone will die... of fun!" set. Iguro might even get annoyed enough to ask if they really have nine Pillars or just 8 and a parasite. Which Shinobu would not take to well. If this a chance for open animosity between Shinobu and the other Pillars? Ahahaha. HAHAHAHAH. As long as Kanae is still there to be Kanae, Shinobu would have no reason to hold back her angry truth. Like, I think she'd still totally befriend Mitsuri, but would also have very little understanding for Mitsuri's desire for romantic partnership, which just leaves Mitsuri flustered and even more troubled in explaining herself. Oyakata-sama would still send Shinobu and Giyuu on a lot of missions together. Shinobu, who has to stake some pride on establishing herself as a Pillar not simply a parasite to her sister (whom she would rather be on missions with if she needs to team up), would probably feel a bit like this is babysitting. She'd probably take this out on Giyuu, and Giyuu might get annoyed enough with her less-than-polite bullying that he chides her more harshly. He knows to stand up for himself, after all. That "no one likes you" exchange is still bound to happen in some form. Uzui would pick up on her being sensitive to the "parasite" thing and he would have fun rubbing it in. Enough that Kanae might take him aside and sternly tell him to stop. Rengoku, of course, if he picks up on it at all, would probably be a stop to it all with his earnest admiration for Shinobu having earned the Pillar position in spite of her size, and how great it is for the two sisters to work together! (Iguro might bring it up again though when Oyakata-sama suggests having ten Pillars instead of the typical nine.) Undecided on if they would have matching haori, since Shinobu would not feel any need to take up any of Kanae's role in the world. Kanao, having the stable presence of Kanae around, might not be as motivated to join the Final Selection, but she'd probably pick up Flower Breath even faster/better with Kanae's ongoing example. It's possible two watchful sisters might better prevent Kanao from heading out, but it's also possible that two busy sisters had no idea and Kanao was just that much better at swiftly sneaking away. She'd wind up being Kanae's Tsuguko, since they have the same Breath. And on Tanjiro's trial, maybe she and Kanae wind up arguing about how much mercy to show Tanjiro (even as Shinobu is forcefully feeding Tanjiro's medicine for his injuries). Kanae would be totally excited to befriend Nezuko and Shinobu might shoot daggers from her eyes and warn Tanjiro not to let Kanae down. Whether Nezuko eventually wiggles her way into Shinobu's heart, or whether Shinobu's hardens her heart more thinking she has to protect her sister from cruel disappointment, it's anyone's guess. For fun, let's say it's the latter. Also, Shinobu would find Zenitsu and Inosuke super irritating, but since Shinobu is so good at teaching, Kanae would ask her to help them with their Breath training. So with Shinobu being so on guard, she's probably resistant at first to working with Tamayo, but maybe some sweet talking from Oyakata-sama about how she's always had her own skills totally unique and valuable and that this is how the Corp needs her more than Kanae needs her. Oh, and they get to beat up Douma together. Sweet.

i feel sorta sad that there's not much stated about the previous hashira- like sure, the sengoku era with yoriichi and michikatsu, but like the taisho era where kyojuro was still a kid and kanae was alive.
i feel like they'd be sorta sweet when sanemi still wasnt a hashira, and they'd all have a fairly good relationship with each other. they wouldn't be all toxic hating/bullying like when iguro & shinobu get in, and it would be a very tight-knit group of coworkers that are all fairly sweet and quaint, without loud people like kyojuro or mitsuri.
therefore,
“Hey, join us!” Uzui Tengen’s smile lit up almost as brightly as his headband. “All the hashira go out to dinner with each other after every Hashira Meeting!”
Tomioka Giyuu blinked. “Sorry, I have to go.”
“It’s a bit rude to refuse an invite, especially on your first day.” Rengoku Shinjuro raised a judgmental eyebrow. “And to senior hashira.”
“It is alright if you do not wish to come, Tomioka.” Himejima Gyomei smiled. “We understand if you wish to go out with others in celebration.”
“Besides, there’s always the next Hashira Meeting!” Kochou Kanae added.
“Right.” Giyuu bowed. “Thank you. I look forward to working with you all.”
“He’s not gonna last to the next meeting, and he knows it.” Shinjuro said once Giyuu was out of earshot.
“Don’t say that, Rengoku-san!” Kanae gasped. “I’m sure that he’s talented!”
“Talented at being unflashy, hmph.” Tengen crossed his arms, the beads clinking together.
“You should not judge people based on their first appearance, Uzui.” Gyomei rubbed his beads. “Though, it might be less painful if he passed before our next meeting, if he truly is a filler.”
“You’re all cruel!” Kanae pouted. “He looks like a nice boy!”
“Of course.” Gyomei nodded sarcastically.
“Only thing nice about him is that fat as-” Tengen started.
“Association to the Corps.” Shinjuro interrupted abruptly.
“Amen.” Gyomei agreed.
“Amen.” Kanae nodded.
“Tch. Whatever.” Tengen rolled his eyes. “Me and my wives found this cool izakaya nearby, serves real good yakitori.”
“That sounds like fun!” Kanae added, before looking concerned. “Rengoku-san, didn’t you have a newborn son at home?”
“Ah, yes.” Shinjuro smiled fondly. “Senjuro. Ruka-san and my elder son, Kyojuro, are looking after him tonight.”
“They are very sweet.” Gyomei complimented.

Demon Hashira
Gyomei
A perversion of a Buddhist statue, stony skin shot through with cracks and six arms clutching a string of demonic eyes in lieu of prayer beads, capable of delivering catastrophic blows and massive shockwaves.
His Blood Demon Art is an insidious thing, a constant prayer dripping from his lips and sapping the fighting spirit from those who hear it. It secondary facet only activates once someone cuts through his skin, as any weapon coated in his blood becomes repelled from his being, making follow up strikes near impossible.
His Ultimate turns his prayer beads into burning projectiles that embed themselves in the ground and turn the earth into geysers of burning lava.
Tengen
A glittering thing, shining with the refracted light of the gems embedded into his skin.
With these gems he bends the light around himself, rendering him almost invisible to the naked eye or blinding his foes with retina scorching beams.
But his main method of attack are his wives, who rip apart his victims like drunken maenads as he supports them with a dizzying light show.
It is his wives which reveal the small glimmers of humanity that remain with him, as decapitating one will send him into a rage that sees him activate his ultimate, witch turns his embedded crystals into explosive shrapnel bombs that take root and grow in anything they’re lodged in.
Kanae & Shinobu
Kanae is the first demon of this duo most people see, pretty and human like save for the flowery crests that weave their way along her skin.
Her Blood Demon Art sharpens her fingers into long needle like claws coated in a venom that sprouts flowers in it’s wake, which she can manipulate to rapidly grow demonic forests or turn her victims into still living flower beds.
But should an opponent avoid her tricks, her back will unfold like a flower, unleashing her second, deadlier half.
Shinobu is a spiteful little thing, compound eyes and gnashing mandibles stinger tipped claws zipping through the battlefield, all to the maddening drone of wasp’s wings.
She is a slow killer, between sleep inducing fog scales, a dozen different poisons that provide their own hellish death, and an acidic digestive spit.
But her ultimate pumps her unfortunate victim with a venom that twists their flesh into a swarm of venomous insects that turn on any other human in the vicinity.
Muichiro
An...unsettling child, skipping through fog with a discordant laugh, ginkgo leaf patterns twisting across his skin and six eyes glinting mischievously.
Any who follow him into the mist fall into his trap, as breathing in the haze acts as a thought virus, obfuscating the senses and picking away memories, robbing more and more as the afflicted attempts to recall what’s been forgotten.
And as a last resort, Muichiro can gather this mist, coalescing it into a semisolid monster bearing features and faces stolen from his victim’s mind, a beast the juvenile demon has dubbed ‘Yuichiro’
Giyuu
A morose, ethereal creature, his pale, tear streaked face marked like a kabuki mask and his form framed by the nine tails fanned around him.
It is with these tails that he produces his blood art, splitting them off to create mirror images of himself or his opponents, which he can use to mob his foes and transfer injuries between them.
And as each tail is defeated, their simulacrum heads decapitated, he gathers them back into his form, transforming into a massive kitsune who shifts states between flowing water, freezing ice and steaming mist, only his demonic core remaining consistent enough to cut through.
Sanemi
Sanemi is the vision of violence, his face split in a hyena like grin, his once white hair dyed black by coagulated blood, his scars replaced by a dozen festering wounds that will never heal.
His blood is incredibly poisonous, and he is capable of turning the hemoglobin into vicious iron spikes, riddling his form with wicked blades that tear into his opponents and open new wounds in his own form.
With his ultimate he shoots his blood from his wounds in a fetid spray, each drop sprouting into a cornucopia of iron spikes meant to eviscerate any who come to close.
Kyojuro
An avian beast whose limbs are tipped by scythe-like claws, the flames of Rengoku’s humanity have been doused by transformation, his fiery hair reduced to blackened cinders matching the crow’s feathers that coat his limbs.
It is only upon the activation of his Blood Art that he regains his human splendour, setting his body aflame and animating his feathers, turning them into wings to lift him aloft and a flurry of fiery blades to rain upon any below him.
His Ultimate brings to bear the flames of hell, shaped into the forms of animals his human form might have imitated with his sword forms, chief among them a writhing, serpentine dragon.
Mitsuri
At first glance, Mitsuri appears as a...interesting but ultimately human figure. It is only a closer inspection that reveals the feline claws, the twinned bladed tails wrapped around her form, and the mouth on the back of her head that opens and opens and keeps opening.
She fights with a playful smile upon her face, a flirty taunt on her lips, her tails striking like whips to crush and cleave, and softening to shake any blows struck in response.
But it is within these taunts that the true danger lies, as her ultimate laces her words with a compulsion that turns even the most fervent Demon Slayer into her affectionate devotee, leading them to their doom as she sings her siren song.
Obanai
What else could Obanai be but a serpent, his lower half a mass of coiled muscle, a forked tongue flicking from between bandages that conceal a flexible, unhinging jaw. Even his hair is serpentine, writhing like a nest of vipers as his ire is stoked.
His Blood Demon Art is a stark contrast to Mitsuri’s, as looking into his mismatched eyes fills his victim’s heads with destructive, loathing thoughts that continue to linger even if one should escape.
His ultimate is perhaps more straightforward, summoning a writhing horde of vipers, maws filled with a paralyzing venom and the same denigrating thoughts carried upon their cacophonous hissing.

sanekana headcanons (she dead 😝)
a/n: lol i know no one asked for these but who tf cares 🤪
Sanemi visits Kanae's grave often, even more than Shinobu. He brings fresh blue peonies to her grave bc its the only color he sees correctly; they remind him of her colorful personality.
He also brings wisteria to you know, keep her soul safe from the demons and whatnot
Sometimes when no one's around, he talks to her grave, and about what's going on in his life and that he's okay.
Whenever he ever tries to harm himself he feels something stop him. something that makes him say, "Man, what am I doing." sometimes he envisions Kanae's figure approaching him and grabbing the knife from his hands saying, "There's no need."
OKAY IM SORRY BUT "Dark Paradise - Lana Del Rey" IS SO HIM
Sometimes when he's feeling down he'll just remember that she's in a much better place. One free from all the horrors of their world.
She had a feeling she may not come back from the mission to kill Douma, so i like to think that before she left, she wrote letters for Shinobu, Sanemi, Kanao, and whoever else was important to her. The letter for Sanemi would go something like:
Dear Sanemi,
If you’re reading this, I must not have survived the attack against Douma. But please don’t be sad.. I lived a good life.
I want to thank you for loving me as much as you did. It’s true. I’ve known the whole time, and regret not letting you know sooner. That day that I tended to your wound at the mansion. I gave my little sister, Kanao, a special coin. This coin has been passed down through the generations of our family. I flipped the coin to the opposite side and said to her, “When you fall in love with some boy someday, you’ll change, too, Kanao.” I should have told you, I shouldn’t have been so cautious, but it’s too late. So please live a good life. For me. Try to refrain from crying or becoming depressed. Death is just a part of life, after all. Cherish my memory instead. Be kind to other people when you can, and don’t start meaningless fights. But I’m not asking that you change. Never change.
Lastly, I need you to promise me you’ll remember this: It is not your fault. It was never your fault. And though you may find more women in your future, and that’s okay, know that I will always love you.
We shall meet again.
- Kanae <3
