Love your bg3 comics! I hope you don’t mind some world/lore building questions!

I was wondering why Kit looks so much more like Dorian than Astarion, and it got me thinking about how vampire genetics work. Do you think that the only physical traits that get passed down are ones from before becoming a vampire? That said, what do you think Astarion looked like before he was turned, and did Kit inherit any of those traits?

i think that would make sense!! i feel like pre-vampire astarion probably looked about the same but less pale and gaunt (personally i hc that he just went grey really early and i’m also in the brown-eyed astarion club)

honestly though, the real reason kit didn’t get anything from astarion is because the redleaf genes are too strong and they all look exactly the same

(he still got the teeth and the fluffy hair though)

The first time Sonic went Super in Road Trip wasn't exactly as stunning to Tails as other au's and stories.

Tails is like maybe 5 here (I'm not actually that organized on the timeline for this au yet, I'm getting there though, things are getting in order.) and he wasn't forced to grow up and be a hero in this au. So he's a bit more childish than canon Tails because he doesn't feel as pressured to mature and grow up fast. Plus, he genuinely thinks Sonic is going to die and this is the last time he see's him, so tears are bound to come down.

This isn't Sonic putting himself first-#-but him trying to comfort Tails because even if it's cheesy- Tails will only feel okay if Sonic is okay.#Apparently it calms children down if they listen to their parents heartbeat (melts my heart when I remember that) so Sonic put-#-Tails close to him not only so he could hear that Sonic is alive- but also to try calming him down a little more.#Small thing I started incorporating way too late- Sonic will call Tails Big Guy if the kit is smaller than him and-#-Little Guy if the kit is larger than him.#Sonic changed his pattern color to be blue like Tails' eyes after he points out that they are both yellow (it's not colored here-#- but you probably remember that Super Sonic has golden fur.)#Sonic is constantly rubbing a thumb on Tails' hand as a comforting gesture.#That's my ramble- I know it's just pretty bare bone stuff that anyone reading might get but I freaking love explaining stuff (I gotta stop)

Honestly so much of Starline's actions and failures are explained when you realize he does not understand people.

He does not understand why people do what they do, how they find fulfilment in what they do, their motivations, why they think differently from him, that they know their limitations, what drives them to keep going, when they're better than him.

And he probably doesn't know these things about himself.

Jesper “guard against pain” vs Wylan “guard against joy”

Jesper’s jokester and confident façade was to protect himself from feeling pain, but inside he’s insecure and vulnerable. He hid his grisha nature because the only person who ever treasured it was taken away from him, and grew up being told that it was a curse. So instead he acts like he doesn’t need it. He acts like he takes all the losses and all the hurtful things in good stride but deep inside he’s feeling lost and guilty all the time. That boy is always bouncing on his feet with guilt all the time in the duology. Guilt for disappointing everyone: his father, Kaz, Inej, his mother, and himself. When he thought about Wylan at the end of SOC he thought Wylan wouldn’t want to hang out with criminals like him anymore once he got the money and that had stung more than he thought: it’s the boy inside him feeling abandoned again, the boy that does no good to anyone other than in a fight. And he cope with all that pain, that guilt, with his addiction and his gunslinging - which no one really paid any mind until Wylan saw through his façade.

Wylan, whose joy and hope was taken away from him by his father, was always made to feel less than, shared the same constant feeling of guilt for just being who he is. His father made sure of it, that he knows he’s not allowed to feel anything but anxious and guilt, and his joy was to be choked out of him (metaphorically and literally). Wylan in the show couldn’t even believe when Jesper told him he was smart, thinking it was just a trick to coddle him into some false sense of joy before it would be taken away again. Wylan in the books still holding on to the last shred of decency for his father until that moment at Saint Hilde, instead blaming himself for it, maybe because it would give him a false sense of control over his own pain. Until Jesper saw his own guilt mirrored in Wylan, and helped him to his feet.

Both Jesper and Wylan were able to keep some part of goodness in the face of everything that happened in their lives: Jesper with his good spirits, Wylan with his morals - standing up against Kaz again and again despite being threatened every time. In Jesper, Wylan learned to accept joy again, and that this won’t be taken away from him. And in Wylan, Jesper knew that he has a safe space where he can accept his pain and heal from it in a healthy way.

“You can love something despite seeing all of its flaws.”

Anyway, Wesper is each other’s safe haven.

A silly thought, but hear me out: Ghouls don't have less kits on the surface because it's physically difficult for them conceive necessarily, it's because the mortality rate for ghouls on the surface is significantly lower than in Hell.

Hell's not a bad place if you're a demon, but there's still a lot of unsavory things that happen down there, and it's not uncommon for fights to break out, or full on wars between packs, etc, so ghouls have large families to sort of compensate/whatever.

On the surface, though, ghouls don't have to worry about that, at least not nearly as much as they do down below, so they're able to actually be more hands on in raising their kits/have more resources to care for both their children and themselves.

Not having to worry about your kit's mewling alerting a larger demon to your den's location, or risking orphaning them because you have to go fight something in order to feed them makes things a whole heck of a lot easier.

Ghouls summoned to the surface get to experience a side of parenthood that their own parents never got to; They get to actually see their kits grow up, and enjoy simple things like learning and playing without it being about teaching them to survive.

So yeah, the ghoul population is kept from exploding purely because the ones that do choose to have kits are able to take more time to be with and care for them, and the ghouls who absolutely DO NOT want kits don't feel like they have to.

Also I think ghouls with kits would definitely enjoy the various "baby containment" items, like playpens, if only because ghouls are so used to having to carry their kits around with them or pop them into their nests and hope they don't climb out.

"You mean to tell me I can put this net over the baby prison and he won't be able to climb out and damage himself? Wonderful."

That and pacifiers/teething toys.
