one piece figure skating au wherein Sanji and Zoro have one of Those Sports Rivalries. you know, the kind where their names are pretty much never mentioned without each other and people who follow the sport at their level have Opinions on which one is better (Zoro’s fans maintain that Zoro has a better technical skillset and that Sanji basically just gets by on charisma. Sanji’s fans think Zoro’s routines are bland and unchallenging and make memes about his one facial expression). They themselves respect each other but definitely are trying to outdo each other and also have the OPLA “trying to banter but it just sounds like insults” disease.

then Sanji’s career is suddenly disrupted by being outed as transfem (not saying by Judge but definitely by Judge). there’s this huge controversy over can she skate, and if so with whom and in what context, which keeps her off the ice for months and looks to end her career completely. this is when Zoro offers to do a pairs routine with her in an upcoming exhibition.

now everybody who follows Zoro knows that he 1) hates exhibitions because there’s no winner and 2) hates overtly themed routines because he thinks they’re a crutch to distract from a deficiency of pure skill.

which is why it’s surprising when their pairs routine, a lindy hop-style piece set to a medley of Too Darn Hot from Kiss Me Kate and I Wish I Were in Love Again, which is choreographed half as a knock down drag out fight and intended as an inside joke about their rivalry, turns out to be 1) absolutely oozing with sexual tension and 2) probably the best performance, athletically and artistically, of both of their careers.

seriously, to be able to combine swing dancing and stage fighting, on ice skates, in your first routine together, is such an insane achievement on a technical level that it almost overshadows both the controversy over Sanji’s gender and the colossal waves of UST emanating from every recording of that performance.

which was kind of the point.

well, the first part was at any rate. Zoro wanted to show his respect for Sanji as an athlete and his rival and to deliver such an incredible performance with her that it would get people to talk about that rather than about her gender. he was not anticipating the other bit.

(at least now most of the memes about him have changed to being about how his competition-obsessed stone-faced ass is doomed to go down in history for an exhibition routine about his rivalry boner, which is…better?)

“Photograph” is perhaps one of the most criminally underrated and critically misunderstood songs of all time because people take it at face value due to the memes. However, if you read between the lines you’ll see the truth clear as day: The song is a bittersweet tale of gay romance.

The very first verse wastes no time in elaborating on the tragedy:

Look at this photograph

Every time I do, it makes me laugh

How did our eyes get so red?

And what the hell is on Joey's head?

Their eyes are red from weeping at the state of Joey, our narrator’s former lover; the line about something being on his head is a reference to the progression of whatever disease was claiming his young life.

Now, you might think this makes the first two lines seem rather callous and insensitive. Why would he be laughing at this tragedy? Well, the rest of the song explains it: He’s laughing because he’s chosen to prioritize remembering the good moments while saying farewell to the tragic memories, making the conscious decision to immortalize Joey’s tragically short life in a positive way and saying farewell to these records that bring back negative memories, as evidenced by the powerful, sweeping chorus:

Every memory of looking out the back door

I had the photo album spread out on my bedroom floor

It's hard to say it, time to say it

Goodbye, goodbye

Every memory of walking out the front door

I found the photo of the friend that I was looking for

It's hard to say it, time to say it

Goodbye, goodbye

The rest of the first part of the song really helps flesh out the story with reminiscences of our narrator’s childhood home (likely where his romance with Joey initially blossomed), as well as a criminal record and a failure to graduate:

And this is where I went to school

Most of the time had better things to do

Criminal record says I broke in twice

I must have done it half a dozen times

I wonder if it's too late

Should I go back and try to graduate?

Life's better now than it was back then

If I was them, I wouldn't let me in

These lines can be read in two ways. The first is this can be seen as our narrator detailing his spiral into criminality in the wake of discovering Joey is not long for this world; the second is that it can be read as engaging in reckless bucket list hedonism to make Joey’s last days special. I think the former is closer to the truth due to the song’s themes of saying farewell to negative memories, something supported by the line indicating his life is better now.

The second part of the song comes off as a lot more positive, though still bittersweet as it deals with memories our narrator seems to cherish a little more:

Remember the old arcade

Blew every dollar that we ever made

The cops hated us hangin' out

They say, "Somebody went and burned it down"

We used to listen to the radio

And sing along with every song we know

We said, "Someday we'd find out how it feels

To sing to more than just the steering wheel"

The last line is arguably the most hard-hitting in the whole song, as our narrator did in fact achieve that dream… while Joey, tragically, did not. While he is far more wistful about these reminiscences than the initial ones, he still finds the need to say farewell to this as the survivor’s guilt weighs heavily on his soul.

Then we have the lines indicating that, in the wake of Joey’s death or perhaps merely because of societal norms of the time, he forced himself into heterosexuality:

Kim's the first girl I kissed

I was so nervous that I nearly missed

She's had a couple of kids since then

I haven't seen her since God knows when

At the very least, despite the negative connotations this memory brings, he doesn’t seem quite so bitter about this, which foreshadows the big finish of the song (or indicates he’s actually bi, it’s ambiguous)

And then comes the big twist of the song:

I miss that town, I miss the faces

You can't erase, you can't replace it

I miss it now, I can't believe it

So hard to stay, too hard to leave it

The narrator ultimately acknowledges that, as painful as some of the memories might be, they are still important, defining moments of his life that shouldn’t be carelessly tossed aside. When it comes to the past, you need to take the good with the bad, and not run from the past. There is gurt there, but ultimately the good times outweigh the bad and that Joey’s memory is truly tied to the photographs for better or worse.

And this brings us to the last lines before the final chorus, a reaffirmation that no matter what his love for Joey is eternal, cementing the bittersweet nature of the song:

If I could relive those days

I know the one thing that would never change

This song is so criminally misunderstood, likely due to the easily memeable nature of the music video and Chad Kroeger’s voice and style not the thing that really springs to mind when you think of queer angst. It’s a shame, because this is essentially the audio equivalent of Brokeback Mountain, a queer story of love, loss, and cherished memories that was ahead of its time.

Ultimately, this is the worst Def Leppard cover I’ve ever heard. I give it a 3.5/5.

B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?) Can you hunt? Fish? Fight? Survive? If you can't but have managed to get her attention through other means, she'll teach you. No. You don't get a choice. She. Will. Teach. You.

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?) Have you ever been held in a headlock by a bear? It's a little like that, but with less hair.

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?) Settling down is not an option. If you settle, you starve. Cooking is important. If you can't cook your food, you risk picking up disease and being rendered unable to hunt. Then you starve.

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?) An ax. Maybe two axes. Depends on how bad of a mood she's in.

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?) Marriage is fine, but only to the right person. Commitment is something to be taken incredibly seriously. Giving up is not an option. You know what? That's right. You'll starve.

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?) Shockingly, Anna can be incredibly gentle, but it's reserved almost exclusively for small children. Emotions? Ha. Emotions won't feed you so suck it up and go do something useful.

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?) She's not fond of being touched by anyone but a very select few. If you're lucky enough to be one of those few, cherish her hugs. They're few and far between, and tight as a vice.

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?) It's difficult for Anna to express love. Give her enough time (a very long time) and she'll get there. Once she's sure she won't lose you anyway.

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?) Jealousy is motivation. Someone has something you want? Something you need? Strive to be better than them. Make them jealous. If that doesn't work, eat them. Then you get their stuff and you won't starve.

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss their partner? Where do they like to be kissed?) Anna is more of a biter than a kisser, but when she does kiss it might feel like she's trying to steal the soul from your body. Although you'll have a hard time getting her to admit it (and god help you if you tell anyone) she likes being kissed on abdomen and sternum.

L = Little ones (How are they around children?) Anna longs to be a mother. A bit more clear headed then before the Entity took her, she knows kidnapping children isn't the way. Maybe someday she'll have a daughter of her own, but until then she will continue to dream.

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?) Be ready to be up before the sun rises. The best way to hunt an animal is to be at the food or water before it is. The best way to hunt a man is to make sure he doesn't see you until it's too late...

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?) As long as the chores are done, it's time to unwind. Sharing stories and singing songs until it's time to sleep.

O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?) Anna will reveal things about herself in the form of lessons. Stories of hunts, lessons from her mother, memories of surviving harsh winters and scorching summers. All things will be revealed in time.

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?) Anna is perpetually angry. A hard and tragic life has all but gutted the kindness out of her.

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about their partner? Do they remember every little detail they mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in their relationship?) Your first successful hunt. Not one where she brought you along and brought down the prey, but the first time you struck the killing blow without her needing to guide you.

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect their partner? How would they like to be protected?) There is no one Anna wouldn't kill to keep her partner safe.

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?) You will be given a nice handmade gift. Not a weapon or tool. But something that reminds her of you. Probably a small hand carved wooden animal of some kind.

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?) There aren't enough laxatives in the world to relieve Anna's emotional constipation.

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?) As long as she looks scary, she's happy. If her face is the last thing you ever see, she wants it to fill you with terror.

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without their partner?) NO.... yes

X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.) Anna dislikes men for a number of reasons. Her mother raised her and the only men she ever saw were seen as a threat. As well, she finds them quite useless overall. One or two may rise above her preconceived judgment, but it's not an easy feat.

Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?) An inability or unwillingness to learn new things. Especially things that can be used to keep you alive.

Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habit of theirs?) She only sleeps at night if there's time. Daylight is not to be wasted.

He’d avoid most things that feel unclean to him, like watersports or fecal play, but he’s able to heal anything but full death as an angel, and this includes injuries to himself, so there’s surprisingly few things he won’t do if a partner asks. He isn‘t exactly interested in being hurt, but if doing so brought pleasure to his partner, he would let them. Same with hurting them.

A character that yours fantasizes about coupling with? Whomever the current object of his affection is. It starts innocently enough, but he does know what sex is and he is curious by nature. Not curious enough to seek a stranger’s touch, or to ever try and pressure the one he is interested in. Heck, he’d probably never actually ask about it at all unless they showed interest in him, and then, well i’d say all hell breaks loose but- [ba dum tiss]
