There have been several attempts on Mei’s life; I think. Constantly stamping down resurrectionists and whatnot. She took down the caste-system, so I imagine it was many who previously benefited who wanted to see her dead.

Terumi Mei, the Godaime Mizukage is many things, merciful, kind, intelligent, deemed the strongest in her village. None of these traits apply to those who endanger her home, and her people.

There are rumors of how Mei handles traitors, and none of them are pleasant.

I love how all the kksk fiends somehow found my only non kksk works 😂 this is technically a continuation of my first work Rumor Has It. Instead of following Kakashi and Sakura it follows my OC Mei- Sakura’s apprentice- directly after her two years of training with Sakura. She returns home on the shores of Kirigakure ready to face her trauma and the corruption of her homeland head on.

This one was tough since it’s going to be mainly OCs and I only made it three chapters in. I have an outline for it but it’s hard to find motivation when you’re trying to create brand new from scratch characters instead of those who already have guidelines to generally follow. One day I hope to find my inspiration to finish it cause I have really cool ideas for it.

Mei obeyed the orders of her Mizukage and sat in one of the chairs on the other side of his desk to face him. She gnawed nervously on the side of her cheek, knowing the person of interest he wanted to talk to her about.

And she did not want to talk about her.

The one person who was supposed to be dead, at least she and the rest of the village had believed that for five years. Yet she faked her death and tried to start a revolution to bring Kirigakure under its former Blood Mist era, and might have succeeded if she hadn’t tried to start a fight with Konoha’s strongest. And she did it for her.

Her life would be so much simpler if she had just stayed dead like Mei had believed for so long. Though, if she supposed, the version of the woman she knew was dead already.

Summary: Yuugiri Fuurin was born in a time of bloodlust and tyranny, a life that she would not wish on Kirigakure's enemies. She knows that blood has to be shed in order to return her village to a state of peace, but she is gentle hearted and kind, her hands may be stained with death but she certainly does not enjoy it. But the Bloody Mist has reigned for far too long and she is determined to see its fall.

An ally in Kirigakure might have made things easier for a certain Demon of the Hidden Mist.

“A bunch of soft hearted fools that I seem to be surrounded with.”

Zabuza is practically growling between the glares that he’s given her but it is the hint of dark flushes that indicates the less than severity of his tone. And for the first time in several weeks does a genuine smile touch her once lavender painted lips in expression of the amusement that she feels.

“Incompetent even.”

“Don’t fool yourself, Zabuza.” Laughs Fuurin, pushing away the pale silvery blonde curls that had fallen in her face, still streaked with the blood of her enemies and clumped with mud that had dried. “We roamed the streets together since we were children, you’ve had plenty of opportunities to rid yourself of me.”

“Are you daring me to take that chance now?”

Lmao imagining Zabuza interacting with Mei and Kisame, like when their all genin, is so fucking hilarious.

Yeah by that point he’s killed a 100 classmates, but that means nothing when your two co workers have weird clan powers that make absolutely zero sense. Mei could make an entire new island with her lava power and he would have to sit there with his regular sword and act like that is okay and a completely normal daily activity. Nevermind he probably asked at one point “Oh Kisame you have gills but I never see you swim underwater for long?” only for Sharkboy to respond “Their ~aesthetic~” because Kishimoto literally gave him gills for shits and giggles.

His clanless and orphaned butt would also probably be cursing them out in his head 24/7 because no matter how weird Kirigakure culture probably is, I think Mei and Kisame are just on another level of WTF because their exact reactions to Yagura being a dictator were ‘I will start the first successful revolution the elemental nations has ever seen’ and ‘I’ll lose all my faith in the system and take up the terrorist gig the dude controlling my former boss is offering’.

Which makes them perfect friends in all honesty for Zabuza ‘I will be shirtless and wearing cow print while being a missing nin that takes any job to fund the previously mentioned revolution and also I adopted a kid’ Momochi.

Anyways this was all for me to say that more canon bby Zabuza content is needed.

JDJJDJD i think kisame would (highly ironically) probably flag as like a bootlicker and a narc given his… personal relationship… with…. “yagura”… to zabuza and co until he sent the worlds weirdest and funniest mixed message by assassinating the water daimyo and bailing. but zabuza still hates him. bastard.

NO BUT THATS IT EXACTLY! i love zabuza and kisame as friends or begrudging comrades in aus but in canon? from zabuza's perspective zabuza is the best of his nation, he desecrated the chunin exams of kiri at 9 years old and forced his way into the elite swordsmen group, he couldve been sitting pretty as a revered ninja or kirigakure but he knows there is something wrong with the authority of the country and immediately jumps to the idea of revolution. a revolution. thats so out of left field for a bloodthirsty soldier but thats how Fucked Up kiri is in his brain.

and then theres this guy, who arguably is stronger than him, and stronger than his other swordsmen, and hes in the cypher division killing "traitors" but hes also working directly with the swordsmen. and zabuza knows that this guy knows that theres something fucked up with kiri. but when zabuza tries to start the revolution they get intercepted and betrayed and by the power vested in me i will die thinking that kisame stood on the other side of that coup and drew out information for yagura so theyd be prepared to end that before it started. there is absolutely no way that zabuza ever looks back on his experience in kiri and the people who kept it a miserable, bloody place with anything less than vile hatred because zabuza wanted to make the nation better for kids like him and haku.

and then kisame kills fuguki out of state induced brainwashing and then immediately jumps ship to listen to anything that secret evil obito wearing the face of yagura says because why not join another life path of brain washing, this time with a world wide revolution.

zabuza died in shonen so that he couldnt jump on kisame's back and bite him like the piranha he wouldve become when seeing him in the streets

suigetsu helps mitsuki, inojin, and shikadai defeat shizuma just because “i want that little brat shizuma to lose.” which on one hand is hilarious because, like, what the hell did shizuma do to you sis? he said you had no swag and get no ass so you want him to die??? how does he even know shizuma if shizuma is 17-18 and suigetsu is like 30+ and based in otogakure? huh????

but on the other hand..... it doesn’t make a ton of sense for suigetsu to be anti-shizuma, or invested in taking him down in general. shizuma’s goal isn’t just to bring back the bloody mist, but to institute a transparent government. his main complaint in boruto canon is that chojuro and mei are systematically assassinating any and all political detractors and denouncers, cutting down “anyone who got in their way.” while obviously shizuma is not a trustworthy person and isn’t someone we should take at face value, he’s also shown to believe in and keep his promises. he thinks he’s doing the right thing. that says a lot about him. and it raises confusing questions about suigetsu, too: has he turned his back on his old village? does he not care about what’s happening there? why is he so invested in stopping a revolution that would likely never make it off the ground in the first place? why is he so interested in squashing shizuma and protecting chojuro’s administration, one that even he thinks is too moderate and nothing special?

shizuma’s claims aren’t baseless or fiction, either. during his fight with the new seven, chojuro himself also admits to these assassinations and removing the names of the “unsavory dead” (people who cast a pall on kirigakure’s history, such as, apparently, all of the past seven swordsmen and the entire hoshigaki clan, potentially because of kisame’s involvement with obito.... which raises entirely new questions about why these seven teens/tweens know about that). chojuro confesses that he has done things that weren’t aboveboard, and that he did them for the betterment of his village. which makes sense, and reveals some of shizuma’s naivety: of course a ninja President will have detractors assassinated, it’s what they do. to expect anything less makes shizuma seem as childish as boruto, who vehemently denies that an”good guy” like chojuro would do that. both of them are too young or too ignorant to acknowledge that violence is the wheel upon which the shinobi system and its politics turns.

but still, the onus here is on chojuro. clearly these children are not discontent outliers, but representatives of an increasingly upset and betrayed population in kiri that feels ignored and abandoned by their government. this new kirigakure is built for tourists, not its people. poverty is still relatively high in the village and the surrounding territory, as kagura remarks that he is a shinobi because he is too poor not to be. he is literally in poverty and killing is the only thing that will pay a livable wage. if even kagura, chojuro’s reasonably sheltered preferred candidate for mizukage, is exposed to the harshness of the village’s economic state, then how good can things really be? it seems chojuro’s beautiful port village is a facade for tourists, other nations, and investors. the reality is that the denizens of kirigakure are still suffering and unhappy. and while shizuma’s revolution is pisspoor and childish, he seems to be the only person interested in engaging with kirigakure’s past in order to build its present, whereas the current government administration simply wants to sweep kirigakure’s past and its heritage — both the good and the bad — under the rug and pretend to be something it’s not. something sanitized and pretty and indistinguishable from konoha.

I was immensely upset that the Mist arc in Boruto didn’t go into all-out revolution... I had hoped Shizuma and co, while perhaps beings bit problematic and strong-arming their lackeys, were actually trying to at least address the indignations Kiri had to endure at the hands of Konoha, as well as their own implementation of historical revisionism. Say their revolution *had* succeeded, that Kagura has indeed gone with them... it could’ve made for a great ongoing conflict...

anon, you get me. i agree with you wholeheartedly!

it feels like the narrative is afraid to address the real source of issues -- the shinobi systems -- but still wants to use its issues as a leaping off point. so sumire’s father has legitimate issue with konoha, but at the end of the day nothing changes, and the power friendship allows her to continue being in school. the byakuya gang had a reasonable issue with the governments and operated like robin hoods, which allowed them to win the support of the common people, but ah, shit, that’s too relatable; make them evil greedy little bastards because anything other than the shinobi system is wrong. shizuma and the new seven have issues with kirigakure’s historical revisionist policies, but at the last minute the narrative says “ah, actually they’re just crazy” and ignores it.

actually, the similarities to how the legend of korra handled atla lore and trned it into a western capitslist wet dream and how boruto presents the “progressive new age” are eerily similar.
