Thank you to the EA Creator network for the code to check out the Book Nook Kit. I haven't had the time I want lately to play and build in ts4 that I would like but I really wanted to take some time to do a quick little cc-free set-type build cc-free with this new Kit since I uh very much love building libraries.

Further review of my quick look at the pack under the cut if you're interested - but my main takeaway is that I'm underwhelmed with the color swatches for the bookshelves and I should, as such, note that the colors in my screenshot above have been adjusted.

I really really wanted to like this Kit so much. The initial promo images didn't inspire me (at all) libraries are one of my favorite things to build in ts4, and I was really hoping the items in this pack could replace some of the CC that I use. That will almost definitely not be the case, however.

My main gripe is with the bookshelves. I enjoyed some of the clutter items and will never turn down a good stack of books, though I do have to admit i didn't look too closely at the other large furniture items because they simply don't fit the style in which I tend to build. The shelves, however, came kind of close to being what I had hoped, but ultimately there's just too many small things that bug me about them that I don't see them being worth the cost of the pack.

Those issues with the shelves were: 1) The snapping - I'm really not into this trend of wall items snapping. If you're someone who really likes to finesse positioning I think you'll probably understand how difficult this becomes with snapped items. TOOL alleviates some of these issues but TOOL should not be a necessity for paid packs (and also bugged out when i was trying to move a piece not on the wall, so maybe a moot point, altogether ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ). I've also only just noticed that I kept the book swatches all the same because I kept having to replace them to fix placement issues and obviously forgot to adjust that. Oops! :')

2) No base - The shelves just look, to me, so awkward and off without a base for them to sit on the floor. If you look at most shelves of this type, like Ikea's billy bookcases which these have a very similar vibe to, the bottom shelf does not sit directly on the floor, but is instead slightly elevated off of it:

Like, I understand that removing that element from the equation makes the stacking/snapping effect easier to pull off, but :///

3) The Color Swatches - I didn't check 100%, but I think the swatches do match up to The Immaculate base game display shelf which is nice. But just ughhhhhhhh. I really hated the wood colors on these. They all felt cold and institutional. I really wanted there to be a warm mahogany-esque swatch for good dark academia vibes but, alas. For full transparency this is my image before I photoshopped the colors to be closer to the vibe that I wanted:

Before-> After. It wasn't the absolute worst and got some of the vibes I wanted, but also like. meh.

All in all, this kit was a bit of a disappointment to me. I can see some of my issues being fixed with recolors - but at that point I might as well just be using other CC items?? I'll also recommend some of my current favorite bookshelf items I have in my game > These bookshelves by MLys - these basically never ever leave my game even when I'm going super CC-light. > and this modular library set by SSTS (which admittedly has some of my same issues with snapping items in ts4 - but it's free and has seriously BEAUTIFUL swatches and details and so. I cannot complain even the smallest single bit. It's gorgeous and I can only hope to one day build a library worthy of the set, lol)

My thoughts on season 2 of Shadow and Bone:

[Disclaimer: I haven't read the books, and I only know what the show has shown us!]

Overall, I enjoyed it. It was really interesting, really well-made, and the acting was top-notch. I did like and cared about a particular storyline more than the other one, though.

The storyline that I liked more had to do with the characters that I ended up loving: the crows. Now, I'm brand new to the fandom, so I have no idea if this is a popular or an unpopular opinion, but whenever the storyline went back to Alina's and all of that, I was just: can we go back to the crows?? So…yeah, there's that. I was still able to enjoy that storyline, don't get me wrong, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Characters:

Kaz: I absolutely love him, and I just want him to be happy. He is such an intriguing character, and I need to know more about him.

Inej: Queen, love her, that's it.

*Kanej: I ship it, and I need them together like yesterday!

Jesper: he's so great, and sassy and funny, and I love him. His scenes with his mother….my heart…

Wylan: I adore him! He's so adorable, and I want to protect him. I also want to know more about him, because they hinted at something about his past.

*Wesper: they are crazy about each other, and I'm crazy about them! Love them, and I hope that the show lets them be happy lol

Nina: love her personality and her!!

Matthias: I mainly feel sorry for him. I feel like I don't have much to say about him though, he is in an awful situation and I hope that next season he gets to be out of prison and reunited with Nina.

Nikolai: for many episodes, I wasn't sure about him, I was waiting for him to turn evil lol Thankfully, that didn't happen. I really like him, really enjoyed his character. I hope that he won't become evil because of the infection, though. I could totally do without the love triangle thing that he has with Alina.

Tamar: really enjoyed her character. Would love to see more of her.

Toyla: same as with Tamar, really. Loved his interactions with the crows, and how he tried to help Jesper. Don't really like that little scene between him and Inej at the end, but only bc of kanej.

Genya: that girl can't catch a break!!! Feel sorry for her and I hope she finds happiness in the future.

Kirigan /The Darkling: I blame Ben Barnes for making me feel bad about him in some scenes 😅😅 Kind of surprised that he died already (I'm just used to shows keeping their one main bad guy forever -which I hate), though he might return?!? Who knows?? (probably people who read the books).

Alina: I know she is the main one, the important one, but I just feel 'meh' about her for some reason.

Mal: I was 'meh' about him as well, but he grew on me a little bit. Good for him for deciding to go and find himself!!

*Malina: I should really really love them bc I love the friends-to-lovers trope, but I think that bc I feel 'meh' about the characters, their relationship was also 'meh' to me. I did love their scene when he told her that he was the Firebird!! That was a great scene, and I enjoyed it!!

Legend of Mana: The Teardrop Crystal

I'm late but I finally watched this. Some thoughts:

My partner after watching the first episode: "Like, it's not just me -- nothing the characters were saying made any sense??" Me: "Yep, that's just how the game is. 😎"

The opening is a bit meh but I love the ending credits (both the music and the visuals).

Aww they missed the opportunity to have Inspector Boyd demand that "Sandra" take that hat off. In general, Boyd seems quite a bit toned down/more serious in this anime.

My partner in the second episode: *pauses it and points to Rubens in his first appearance* "Okay, but that is a SUPER Jumi-ass-looking guy..."

My partner responding to Shiloh doing nothing to intervene in Sandra and Rubens' conversation: "I don't get it. She's a petite lady with a tiny knife and he's got abs made of concrete."

My partner: "Inspector Boyd's right to wear that hat is revoked because he was so surprised the guy named 'Basket Fish' turned out to be the basket fish guy they met earlier."

Me and my partner: "I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think I ship Sapphor and a literal basket fish??? 😭"

Me whenever my partner complains about how useless Pearl is: "She is. ☺️"

My partner: "Elazul is kinda a little bitch." Me: "He is. ☺️"

I like seeing Esmeralda and co. wandering around the world together. The anime really cut/downplayed the whole "Elazul/the protagonist is Esmeralda's knight!" aspect of the game, which I don't mind because I never really liked it.

More thoughts about the finale/ending because this got long:

Grudgingly, I accept the "pick Elazul" version of the end of the Jumi arc (but I think the "pick Blackpearl" path is canon/makes more sense in a lot of ways).

I'm not sure how I feel about the Shiloh/Seraphina plotline. As a player of the game, it feels kind of selfcestuous but then is not played that way at all in the anime itself. IDK, it just feels like a weird choice!

I like the extra backstory for Sapphor, being the leader of the Guardians in the Bejeweled City. I wonder if he's gotten any new fic from it? Hm... doesn't look like it, on AO3 at least. Sad. 😭

I'm not sure if the Jumi arc climax really works without the space whale fight. The reason is that I thought it was important that the protagonist (and Elazul or Blackpearl) make the opposite choice of Sandra and choose to ruin the ability of the Lord of Jewels to form a teardrop crystal in order to get back the cores of their former comrades. Like, I thought they essentially punched all the Jumi cores out of him, but then of course this makes no one happy because the Jumi are near-extinct. Hence why the protagonist weeps for them.

My partner: "Yeah, I didn't get what was up with the Lord of Jewels. Like, was he just a scam artist? 'Oh no, just one more core... Seriously this time!'" Me: "I don't think that was the intended read of him in the game, but I see where you're getting that..."

(Seriously, why did they change it from exactly 1000 cores to just approximately that?)

The Sword of Fate(?) gets a little more narrative significance here... but not much. I always wondered what is the point of having it in the story at all. I guess no one knows. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My partner: "Omg, Sandra walked away from Omelas!"

Okay yeah, the ending here is a bit wonky. I think at least the director's cut did the ending better (I think it's important that you have the scene of the Jumi on-screen coming together in order to try to form a teardrop crystal to heal Shiloh and co. in order for the ending scene to have tension. And then the fakeout "bad news" delivery). But there were still the issues of (1) no space whale, and (2) the weird Shiloh/Seraphina scene -- I think this subplot muddies up the point of the Jumi arc, which is about the distrustful relationship between Jumi and non-Jumi. Having Shiloh be already mortally injured when he turns to stone diminishes the sacrifice he makes by shedding tears for/feeling sorry for the Jumi. Making Shiloh and Seraphina both sad at Seraphina's betrayal and wishing they had more time together also introduces a source of emotional sadness that, again, isn't about the Jumi. Both of these things super undermine the emotional weight of the Jumi arc, which is ultimately about being willing to open your heart to the troubles of outsiders, even if this exposes you to harm. The way they handled incorporating two protagonists into the anime was overall interesting throughout the rest of the episodes, but here is where it really fell apart.

Anyway, overall, I enjoyed it. The Jumi arc is my favorite plotline in Legend of Mana and I think it translated pretty well to a self-contained anime series like this.

I do not remember how I ended up at this show. I think it was because I saw fanart of it with no idea who the characters were, which made me wonder what kind of show this is. Turns out it’s a series of 8-minute shorts that mythbust what I assume must be common misconceptions among the target audience. The main characters, Galko ("Gyaru"/"Gal", from the name of a fashion movement/subculture), Otako (from "Otaku"), and Ojou (literally, "Lady"), as well as some boys in the background whose names either I already forgot or were never mentioned, have a rapid-fire series of slice-of-life scenes each focusing on assumptions they have about the human body and what is "normal" behavior, particularly about sex and other taboo topics. It really does seem like realistic conversations that moderately-confused teenagers would quietly have amongst themselves.

If you are a shy teen or tween, or if you're the person who anonymously submitted the question "when you put the car in the garage, do the eggs hatch?" in our sex ed class in 6th grade, this show may be for you? It's mildly interesting in terms of learning what other people don't know? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Maybe I'm missing something here? Meh. I might watch a few more episodes eventually if I feel like it, but I'm at least a decade too old to be the target audience.

32. Something that’s getting on your nerves: The city I live in. It’s so fucking noisy. Car horns, motorcycles, speeding vehicles, sirens....it’s all giving me bad anxiety as of late. I can’t stand it anymore. I can’t stand any loud noises, or really any noise at all now. Maybe I’m just getting old and grumpy. lol

We know you love/lust over Zen, but what are your opinions on the other 4 MM love interests? Gathering from your posts, it seems you like Yoosung and Jaehee, and either feel meh about or are not fond of Jumin and Seven. Correct me if I'm wrong :)

Thank you for including “love” Let’s see. Falling for a character (or real person for that matter) is actually pretty rare for me. When it happens, it’s BAD. You’re quite right: *all things considered*, Yoosung is my second favorite character and Jaehee and Jumin are constantly trying to one up eachother for third place, but since I believe you asked about the characters as romantic/sexual partners, here’s what I think:~ more under cut

Yoosung: I love his personality and I was “afraid” I’d fall for him when I finished Zen’s route. It didn’t happen because he’s a tad too whiny and reliant on external motivation for my tastes (and while he matures a lot in the after endings, I can’t help but feel like his playful nature got snuffed out a little too much), but I’m attracted to kind, considerate guys and I love how he can be witty and mature in unexpected ways. I also like innocent because I love the idea of “corrupting” the guy and-

Jaehee: I feel she became a whole lot more attractive at the end of her route/in the after endings, since she allows herself to really bloom. She is still a little too soft and “feminine” for my tastes, but I love the idea of Jaehee x MC. I adore the concept of love that evolves from a close friendship but takes time to be actually “read” as non-platonic by both parties. Bonus points because they make FOOD together. More bonus points because I have a soft spot for yuri/femslash.Jumin: the fandom’s representation of him always rubbed me the wrong way (not that I find anyone’s interpretation of characters to be inherently bad, but what I kept seeing… was just not my thing) so he had to fight against that to win me over. He did it. I grew to love him after playing all the routes and getting to know him “personally”. BUT. While he’s a great character and I love interacting with him, I find him boring on a romantic/sexual standpoint. He’s dapper, rich, formal, composed, he’s into cats and wine - these are all themes and inclinations that make me yawn ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . These are not traits that “define” Jumin’s character as whole, but I’m sure you get my point: personal interests and the general “vibe” of a character/person do wonders in building up your thirst for them. Or killing it. Seven: I definitely don’t wish him ill and I tend to miss his presence when he’s not in the chatroom for a while, but I wouldn’t touch him with a 3 foot pole 👌 Some of his traits just happen to be flat out unattractive to me.I should also mention that I get turned off immediatlywhen I pick up a very dom and/or sadistic vibe from a character in canon - so that definitely helped orient my preferences when it comes to romantic/sexual leanings.…this thing was weirdly challenging to write lol.

A kick to the nuts. HA - I’m kidding. I currently do not... have... an otp for Myles... I mean, don’t get me wrong, I ship Troy and Myles harder than I ever want to admit, but it’s no fun playing in a sandbox all by myself, so I try not to think about it too hard. But my OTP would probably be anything that involves Myles and happiness. I actually want him to admit that he loves someone and my life will be complete.

I said prior, but Myles is extremely difficult to ship with unless it’s plotted and there’s chemistry involved. 90% of the time, he is playing to emotions that benefit him in a situation, but doesn’t actually feel romantic inclinations towards someone. He can be friendly and have one night stands, but if someone asked to be his boyfriend, he’d mean laugh in their face and walk away. But to answer this question - yes, I am. The only way these two are going to get on the same page is if some outside event forces them to admit their feelings, but so far the universe is just staring at them like “y i k e s”. They would make amazing friends, but being bound to each other is causing more tension than it’s worth and both are too stubborn to back down, even though they’re both quietly attentive their needs, their emotional connection keeps missing. im so tired im so tired im so tired

nothing bad happened i’m just busy and exhausted

socializing frequently after months of basically no socializing is Very Stressful

my GPA last semester ended up being 2.4 (HYPERYIKES), a full 1.1 points lower than my previous low in college. but i kept my scholarship and only failed one lecture that’ll be cheap to retake so it’s not the end of the world. honestly, was expecting this to be lower. so this is good news at least.

on that note i need to pick a class to drop and replace with the failed class. im dipping into senior electives as a junior because of 1. weird transfer credit amounts coming into the school and 2. dropped classes that are only offered once/year. so now i’m looking at taking storyboarding (VERY WORK INTENSIVE) alongside senior port 1 (art student thesis). blech!!! might talk to the head of our dept about this/skipping storyboarding for another vis dev or illustration related class since it’s... really far out of my interests, especially after taking half the class lol

my grandpa keeps mentioning his failing health and i feel more obligated to spend more time with him every time im visiting home which like, i get, but it’s already a decent chunk of time wtih him. idfk

i’m researching apartments/condos to move into with boyfriend and helping him with other random stuff. this is actually exciting but also obviously requires a lot of research and talking through our requirements. also i’ll probably move further away from the school to a more affordable area (got lucky price wise with where i live now). so the increased commute will hurt time management and gas wise. but otherwise a massive QoL increase

trying to figure out a concrete plan on keeping social media updated with art, keep consistent branding, figure out how to fix my website, and prep for the spring art market

normal downtime of video games is less of an option with boyfriend visiting + 1 semi-capable laptop that doesn’t run our favorite game (OW). other downtime... is sleep. we can do naps at least and be cozy and relaxed. watched a nature documentary and a whole lot of bon appetit yesterday and that was awesome too. but sometimes a bitch just wants to clap kids in OW or Halo

wanted to get board games in with my family and d&d in with friends before my boyfriend leaves town which just sounds tiring

and then i’m tentatively planning to drive to him a few days after i fly back to CA so we can view places for the move that will be.. mid semester. not sure on this one. we do need to view places, and i’ll have about a week and a half of extra time once i’m back. but it’d be really nice to get some alone time in once i’m back, clean up/reorganize my room and the shared fridge, and have a lot of drawing/game time. (i miss my PC lmao). if i go on a trip to visit, that means paying a lot in gas (he would at least go halvsies on it but i’ve spent a lot of money with friends over break ugh), spending that time, and having less time to do all the stuff i said before + get supplies for this semester. meh. hoping to talk him into bare minimum apartment/condo visit time + 1 day to relax together + maybe 1 day to help him with his stuff too?

oh and i need to schedule a visit with a psychiatrist in CA alongside a visit to the disabilities coordinator at my school and work out a plan to help deal with the anxiety/adhd because it’s been eating away at my grades slowly and i genuinely think i could pull all A’s and B’s with proper treatment and not getting docked 10-20% of my grades for missing an occasional class due to panic attacks. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ hell i could probably manage A’s & B’s with 18 credits if i talk to her and keep on these meds (i just want to up the dose slightly im technically taking a childs dose so it’s not always as effective)

and my fafsa didn’t go through correctly again even though i turned in my signed and corrected award letter months in advance. so i gotta talk to financial aid. again. wew lad.

at least the last 2 are easy. im mostly worried about long term stuff: graduating on time, building up some sort of presence for the business side of my art, and navigating a successful long-term relationship. i won’t force the last part if it doesn’t work but, of course, but i believe it will and want to put in the effort & make an actual commitment there. short term, the extra socializing IS tiring, but it’ll only last for another week. rereading this is actually kind of encouraging at least, lots of stuff to do but it should pay off!

this ended up being kind of a to-do list because i haven’t bought a planner and calendars for 2020 yet lmao rip
