Every time Cale uses an ancient power and then gets confused when people react in worry I laugh and want to shake him because Cale, CALE YOU NEVER EXPLAIN WHY YOU'RE VOMITING BLOOD.

And here's the thing, vomitting blood, regardles of colour is a sign of serious internal problems, and you know what signs and symptoms you should definitely watch out for afterwards?

Dizziness, especially after standing.

Rapid, shallow breathing.

Or other signs of shock.

So everyone around him makes the very valid assumption the Cale using an ancient power = severe internal bleeding and then Cale goes and usually displays some symptoms of shock (I.E shaky limbs, dizziness, weakness in limbs) and just never explains that he's actually fine. Instead, he tries to get up and keep moving unless he's already fainted.

OF COURSE THEY'RE FREAKING OUT CALE! They think you need serious medical attention and you keep refusing to see a healer or a doctor! (Yes we know you don't want them figuring out how many powers you have and that they can't do anything anyways, but your friends don't!)

Since we don't see what the others are doing every time Cale falls into a coma as a response, I imagine that they're all frantic, trying to figure out what went wrong, how injured he is and how to get him the proper medical care. And then Cale wakes up and is just confused as to why they made it such a big deal.

Like Cale, please, for at least the first few times, they probably thought you were DYING.

I loved NewWave and it's nominated for my top reads 2023, BUT THE JASON FICLET??? I thought it was going to be a light read but it hit me full force in the face because I didn't expect to identify so much with Jason! I'm glad you identified with him! Jason is very much a character who's a little like me too. He's a born writer, and his way of using fiction to put the world in a framework that he can understand is very relatable. It leaves him a little out of touch with the reality of situations, but that's a feature and not a bug.

I can't relate as much to the racial undercurrent in the story, but I don't want to understate it. It has to suck for Jason to feel constantly compared to the blonde haired blue eyed 'perfect sidekick'. She provides something seen as valuable and ideal that Jason never could. Coming from Steph's viewpoint (and considering canon) the idea of her being unattainable perfection is deeply funny, but it's very real to Jason. Adding in Tim - who's identical to Bruce and comes from the same social strata - makes Jason feel like it's every man for himself.

That's what makes his connection with Bruce even more important, though. He's the polar opposite of Bruce in every way, but although Tim and Bruce are similar in a lot of ways, Jason and Bruce have a deep connection and understanding that Tim and Steph don't. They're both dreamers who make the world a stage, their need for justice comes from a place of great pain, and they love in quiet ways.

Jason's a special kid. Like Steph, he has so much value that he doesn't see. Unlike her, he wants more - he's hungry for it, that life with meaning and kindness. He's finally attained something good, and he's scared of losing it. He has so much to offer that he can't see, and the happiness of the story is when he's seen.

New Wave was my way of giving a character who's been routinely fucked over by canon and sidelined by fandom the spotlight. She's special and perfect and loved and recognized and important because...she's none of those things 'in real life'. I wanted to give that to her. Steph's a character I related to when I was her age, and I wanted to give that to myself too.

Jason came from a similar place. I do think canon & fanon are like...overly obsessed with him lmfao. There's a billion 'Jason joins the manor' stories and it's why I almost didn't write the story lol. But he's rarely given the chance to be a kid, one who exists in his own right - to join the Batfam out of his own choice, which is something bizarrely rare in fic. And kids like Jason are the forgotten ones, and it will always be Jason's dream to show the forgotten children that they're as much Robin as he is.

#tbh the only reason why the jason story was written besides my demons was the fact that #ive read a ton of jason joins the manor stories and its kinda nuts how in none of them #jason and bruce are like. friends #jason is always downright kidnapped to the manor and he's terrified of bruce until bruce Dad Proposes and theyre happy #its always 'jason realizes bruce is a good dad' and not #jason likes bruce as a person and wants to be around him and decides that this is where he wants to live his life #same on bruce's end. i never feel like there's an actual reason for why he shares his ID with a random street kid #it's always written with an element of soulmates if that makes sense #what makes jason so special? well he's jason todd the second robin #theres no actual in unverse reason why bruce picks jason #and i dont like a kid being someone you 'picked' #anyway similar to how i didnt want bruce to be a straight up father figure to steph and tim #this story was meant to show how bruce is now ready to be an actual father #and how thats shown by him forming a genuine connection born from friendship and resonance #i feel like bruce is chronically assigned Good Dad and not rly given an internal life #he wasnt ready to legitimately parent tim it was something he had to learn #idk the minute a nonPOV character is parent coded they lose all inner life and motivation #which i feel like says something about how fic writers view parents lmofa #that's another rant though #my writing #my asks

i can't say i really have a favourite honestly, it's kind of luck based. i'll usually try to watch streams while i eat food, but if ive run out of the ones i'm interested in watching, it's likely im eating to a much shorter video.

Bro ive been on the internet for how long and I'm still in a perpetual state of culture shock?

I feel insane when I hear that people don't take family roles or family duty as seriously as I do.

My best friend loves to send me posts of People complaining about family and we both look like

To us it's like instinct. Even if your parents are straight up evil, you still have access to connections and favors by virtue of your last name. You have to defend the last name so you can keep using that. It's not a common idea? CRAZY! And what about your younger generations? You want to ruin it for them too?

I'm guilty of growing up in a mixed asian society. My best friend grew up also In a mixed Asian society but a different one. In mine, the largest groups were Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai and Korean followed by every other kind of Asian.

Her area's largest groups were japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian followed by every other kind of Asian.

So it's kinda different but close enough. She knows how to eat with her hands and I know how to eat with chopsticks. We all celebrate 2 kinds of lunar new year. One by the south asian lunar calendar and one by the east Asian lunar calendar (don't ask, I don't know why we have 2 lunar calendars. You would think there's only 1?)

Both our areas, aunties will scold you if they hear you talk disrespectfully to your parents. Both our areas people will look down on you for not knowing your home language. Both our areas, the elders expect proper acknowledgement.

There are differences too. In my area, those who disrespect you must be disrespected In return. It's an offense to your family that they think they are allowed to disrespect you. In her area, the disrespect will happen but not to the face. You have to show you're from a better family. Here you have to show you are aware of the bullshit and you won't let it slide. I think its a difference between acting on behalf of your family vs acting with permission from your family. That's my speculation.

When teachers at my school said "grades don't matter" we said "then don't grade us? Liar". When teachers at her school said that they said "we understand, thank you for telling us" and then told their parents and the parents filed a report against the teachers for intentional misleading and sabotage.

The levels or respect and politeness and what kinds of actions imply what about your family were a culture shock to me. When I visit her, I have to adjust to be a lot more mellow and polite than I have to show here. Here, the elders accept any proper acknowledgement like "hi grandma" is fine. Even "hello" or a wave is fine. There, elders expect you to acknowledge them according to their culture. I personally fuck this up so bad because I don't even know who they are so i just copy what my friend is doing. And then I get the relation wrong and then they stare at me. Sometimes I'm lucky.

Over here, we don't really know too many people. It's not as social. Where she lives, everyone knows everyone.

I don't know how to describe this melding aside from just generally "asian" .

common ground i think is one of the only episodes of mlp i would say is mainly For adults, not just adult fans (with kids) but adults in general, like, parents who are watching the show with their kids

I have a strange hc that bakugo can... Tap dance

His mom signed him up for tap dancing when he was very young (like when he was 6-ish?) and he kept on doing it until he dropped out of it at age 10. Maybe he forgot a couple of tricks, but I feel like he has the basics down and can remember how to tap to certain types of songs he remembers rehearsing to

But you'd have to have a gun to his head to see him tap dance though 😭 but that's why his mom has vhs tapes 😼

This is making me 💀 bc I remember finding tap dance shoes in my closet as a kid and being lectured for making fun of them b/c "tap dance is really hard!!!!!!!!" (which I don't doubt, but as a kid I was just like: 🙄🙄🙄).

I can see this very clearly though, mostly because I truly believe Bakugo's parent's enrolling him in every single extracurricular they possibly can when he's younger. Poor baby Bakugo takes drumming lessons, dance classes, and probably even does some kind of sport every year until UA... and tap is just one of those things he gets thrust into for the "cultural wealth..."

It's kinda funny because you're right, he absolutely won't tap dance for you, but he also probably won't admit to actually hating the class because it did teach him a bunch of useful things about movement and footwork........... same with all the ballet and hiphop he took after too, maybe ages 10-13.

(I'm not sure how or why this would ever happen, but if he ever hears one of the songs he did a recital to, maybe on the radio, he probably starts tapping a foot or shaking his butt along just due to muscle memory. You catch him in the kitchen once when this happens, absentmindedly doing the routine with one foot as he chops vegetables... and while it's adorable, the second he notices you, he's getting embarrassed and pretending he has no idea what just happened.)

I've always underestimated myself... when I look for a job instead of being like "ya I could do that" I find a million and one excuses for why I can't do it. I hate this about me. but this past 2 months have made me realize if people who make multiple mistakes on the job everyday can get a job for over minimum wage maybe I can too lol

with tooie, while i feel like it's everyones favourite, it's gotta be witchy world. it's just such a fun world overall that it's hard to pick anything else.
