“Landscape after Mi Fu“ by Fukuda Kodōjin (福田古道人), 1918, with his Classical Chinese poem in the upper left:
One day I said goodbye to fame and fortune,
Beneath the forest, forgot all worldly noise.
Please take a look at the Principles of Nature:
Spring bamboo shoots with summer surge up high.

VI. Look at a poem in a language you don’t know, read the poem, thinking about the sound and shape of the words, and the degree to which they remind you of words in your own language. Use those correspondences as the basis for a new poem.
nb. I am always cautious about prompts “interpreting” other languages, because it can facilitate bad interpretations. Also, this particular prompt preferences experiencing poetry in a familiar writing system, which is really a shame. To that end, my poem is drawn from a kanshi (Chinese-style poem) written in Literary Sinitic on a wooden tablet (mokkan) from ancient Japan. You can view photos of the actual artifact on Nabunken’s database here. The translation is mine.
山東山南落葉錦 mountains east, mountains south; falling leaf brocade
autumn comes, dappling us
in forgotten memories.
we, sun-baked by summer,
dry and change our clothes swapping
green to crimson and yellow and brown
—dressed for a banquet
we did not know we were attending.
巖上巖下白雲深 above the cliffs, below the cliffs; white clouds thick
mist comes, wetting us
in lingering regrets.
we, hidden-peak sprites,
brush the drops from our faces running
wet to open an umbrella
—cloud-white and
we go descending.
独対他郷菊花酒 alone, facing this distant land’s chrysanthemum flower wine,
lost now, and home forgotten, where
i find myself—this unknown
place redolent with new fragrances.
drunk on the
chrysanthemums, luscious and
bright, flower-addled,
a bower of strange petals.
破涙漸慰失侶心 broken tears, steady; a consolation for the lost of my heart’s companion.
memory’s weeping,
a butterfly silk lament for
the lost shell
heart-mind empty of
all things—(is this Salvation
or am i still trapped in this world of suffering?)
where have you gone?

Looking over the city from sixteenth floor on an autumn afternoon.
“Look how the light glimmers on the roofs.”
“It’s almost kanshi-esque, isn’t it?”
No. It’s only poetic. We live poetry. Even if we’re not aware.

15 de Septiembre de 1916 (del Diario)
El otoño varea los árboles del monte,
cierro la puerta y me echo en el tatami;
sólo me acompaña mi fría sombra.
Un único bote en los bajíos… llovizna en los lotos.
Transido de soledad en la noche negra, quemo incienso…
aroma y candela avivan los caracteres.
Oteando más allá de la lluvia y las nubes,
acecho la campana cernida por la arboleda.

" That surly looking, chestnut-bellied partridge over there would be the school counsellor, Chiryo Kanshi. I rarely see the guy, mostly because I don't think I need the counselling, but I've heard from Ryouta he's a bit... funny about his job. A great listener, but not always good about rebuttals or advice, & always seeming a little distracted... Mysterious too! Apparently, nobody really knows much else about him beyond a seemingly underlying obsession with the doctor... Maybe its a partridge thing... " -- Hiyoko Tosaka probably

“Landscape with Spring Scenery“ by Fukuda Kodōjin (福田古道人), 1918, with his Classical Chinese poem in the upper right:
Amid flowering trees are perched hidden birds;
In stony tarn are swimming lovely fish.
I sally forth, enjoying myself for hours,
Return back home, again flip through my books.

Nico reflecting on her life with Morihito as she heads towards a confession is such a sweet moment. They've been through so much, but they've never been able to get on the same path. This is what she's been wanting to face head on for so long.
But it's not to be for now. Just as many people has theorized, Komugi is the warlock. This has all been an elaborate trap, and Nico is separated from all of her bodyguards. Shinohara's art is always gorgeous, but this last page is especially chilling, especially with the blood dripping down from the top of the page. Now we have to see if the bodyguards are ready to fight back. Keigo's phonecall to Nemu last week will be key, since she's the variable that Komugi likely hasn't accounted for
