Cooking with Patches motivates me to cook more than anything 🥺
Also, your goated cooking posts has gotten me to do a couple of meatless meal days (Pan-fried tofu battered in cornstarch is life changing!) Any go-to recipes you find yourself cooking alot?
Ah hell yeah!!!
I'm glad to hear it bc I like making the Cooking with Patches posts. She's just HERE and being CUTE and I like sharing this fact with other people.
As far as go-to recipes - "pan fried tofu" DOES actually capture a lot... Like, choose *some* sauce, make rice, make some broccoli, put scallions and sesame seeds on top, and that's like a dozen variations of the same general idea. I tend to just keep scallions and tofu around, so I can kinda just do this whenever and mix up some sauce.
My probably most go-to of the above is this (copied from my notes):
sauce: 3tbsp soy sauce 3tbsp water 1 tsp sugar 1 tbsp sesame oil 1 tsp gochujang Garlic Scallions recipe: Cook tofu cut into slabs, turn over and spoon sauce, turn over and spoon sauce, cook however long you want after
My other "I didn't plan anything and I'm making dinner" approach is to keep fixings around to make ramen Better:tm:. Like I always have some ramen on hand. so I COULD just make ramen but if I have any of these on hand they make the ramen Better:tm:
Ramen add-ins:
kale, spinach, or any other leafy green, (added to the boiling water alongside the ramen noodles)
bok choy, same as above.
(if not vegan) an egg cracked in, added with 1 minute left of the noodles cooking
ANY kind of mushroom, sliced, but shiitake and wood-ear are extra recommended
(if like spicy) any chili pepper, sliced and added with the noodles
silken tofu (like what goes in miso soup)
sriracha (added on top at the end)
sliced scallions, sesame seeds, sesame oil/chili oil (added on top at the end)
And then some actual like, recipe-recipes, I went through things I'd bookmarked as liking
(sub tofu for the fish in this one) =>

I was rewatching the path of legends storyline cutscenes and got thinking about the types of sandwiches Arven was making because I refuse to believe he’s just slapping those herbs on a sub with cold cuts:
Sweet: He made a fruit sandwich for this one!! The herba mystica leaves are a bit like stevia and naturally sweet, so Arven boiled them down in water, strained them, and frothed the extract with some cream to make a nice whipped cream base. He piled up some crustless, fluffy milk bread with various fruits, filled in the gaps with the HM whipped cream, and made sure it looked cute when he sliced it! Mabosstiff’s portion was also slathered with peanut butter
Salty: Salty HM got a modified Cubano!! To entice Mabosstiff to eat it, this sandwich was based around using the herba mystica as a rub for some meat. It was dry-brined, keeping it tender and moist even when it was cooked and sliced really thin. This was then piled onto some good quality bread with cheese, pickles, and a mustardy sauce with more HM mixed in, then toasted so it got all melty. It’s super salty, but full of ingredients Mabosstiff likes a lot
Bitter: Arven was a little afraid to tame the bitterness of the herba mystica TOO much for fear it wouldn’t be effective, so he basically just made fancy toast. A sandwich in name only, it was just avocado toast with ricotta and garlic piled high with some massaged HM— basically like kale, right??? He knew acidity would make it a little more bearable, so he whipped up a quick vinaigrette and thickened it enough to slather on more toast to top off the thing. It’s more a salad between bread, but it worked! Getting Mabosstiff to actually eat it was a nightmare, but the avocado helped
Sour: This one stumped Arven for a while, but he eventually settled on a tuna melt. Whisking the herba mystica together with water made an herbaceous liquid that tasted in a bit like lemon juice, so he added some canned fish, Mayo, celery chunks, red onion, pickles, and layered it all on sourdough with cheese, more HM, and tomato. Grilled them up and boom. Super melty sandwich with a sour bite that still tastes good
Spicy: Arven really wanted to make this one something Mabosstiff would like, so he knew he had to make fried chicken. He dredged the meat in a flour mix with powdered herba mystica to shallow fry and folded the rest into a hot sauce. Covered in cole slaw and piled on a sweet brioche bun, it was bearable despite the burn. Mabosstiff didn’t even bother chewing it

I had grilled chicken and a vegetable melange with broccoli, flashed sesame kale, grilled brussels sprouts, roasted garlic cauliflower, and green beans, plus vinegar-based coleslaw with mustard seeds on the side. Now I am drinking a Moscow mule. I got cod filets with a side salad and more slaw for tomorrow. Brown Bag Seafood Co. is my favorite place in Chicago when I am hungry, in a flare, in too much pain to prepare meals at home, and need filling, nourishing food that adheres to the autoimmune protocol. Thank you Brown Bag Seafood Co.

It can be expensive, but pre-bagged slaw/Asian salads make for amazing low spoon stir fries. Just boil/microwave noodles or make/microwave rice and mix with the bagged mix and its dressing. No need to make stir fry sauce or anything. If you’re feeling it you can add egg or protein, or other sautéed veggies. You can also add the bagged mix to ramen packets for a loaded soup experience, but if you do that, steer clear of mixes with lettuce. Kale salad mixes or slaws are better. The bag mixes go on sale a lot, and one bag is enough for 2-4 meals depending on how much starch/protein you add, so it’s good for leftovers too
