How would Gregor (the mountain) react to Joanna!lookalike passing? Again I would imagine not well.
He would become even more of a monster after the Reader’s death. Joanna!Lookalike was something completely and utterly special to him and now that she was gone, Gregor felt absolutely nothing even more than usual for anyone or anything in his wake. Similar to Cersei and Tywin, Gregor would put all his blame and rage towards Tyrion for taking away the only thing he could ever bring himself to have care for. As much as he would take great pleasure in visiting Tyrion in his cell and rip him apart piece by little piece and getting the dwarf’s punishment over with already, Gregor would refrain from doing so on Tywin’s orders, it takes everything in him to do so. But that wouldn’t keep Gregor from routinely standing outside Tyrion’s cell and just watching him. Staring him down, emitting the most intense and murderous aura from his unmoving stature as he does so.
Gregor had been the one who had carried Joanna!Lookalike’s body away after she died. Cersei had to be held back by her own father and various Kingsguards just so Gregor could get to his poor late princess. As much of a terrible monster Gregor already was, being left to witness the gruesome demise of the only thing he held dear to him and caring her lifeless body in his arms after not being able to protect her only fucked him up more. If it were anyone else he wouldn’t have batted an eye at it but Joanna!Lookalike!Reader wasn’t just anyone. When not behind closed doors, Gregor would be even more of a menace than normal. He would lash out without reason and at anyone who was within proximity of him. He didn’t care who or what crossed his path, either way it wouldn’t survive him one way or another. He would massacre and destroy just about anyone and anything. The only one’s somewhat safe from his wrath were Tywin, Cersei and the children. Even that wasn’t saying very much. On a few occasions, Gregor had been on the verge of disobeying or flat out not taking Tywin’s orders, even going as far as to not backdown when confronted about his insubordination. When he was carrying out orders, Gregor took them even further than he already use to.
When Tyrion demands a trial by combat, Gregor already knows he’s going to be the one to destroy whoever foolishly chooses to be the imp’s champion. He has every intention of ensuring Tyrion’s punishment for taking away his only precious thing in this world and he will happily cut down and tear through whoever he had to to see it happen. He knew nothing could ever bring his beloved princess back, he knew the only thing he ever cared about was gone forever but that self awareness did nothing to quell his deep seeded rage. He had absolutely nothing to lose or hold him back now and that was made everyone else’s problem more than ever.

trailer 1 [fast times and fast nights]
Tumblr media
the 2024 season: deemed silly season by the fans and drivers themselves. for good reason.
questions remain: will mclaren be able to handle their two talented drivers in aella gutierrez and alexis mun? how does red bull manage the background noises of kelly piquet's father when they've got reigning world champion, jupiter nightshade, in their championship winning race car? are mercedes drivers, camellia ayudisha and sonnet pham, still good friends after the mishaps and miscommunications in the 2023 season?
or is that not what you're here for? do you want to look beyond what everyone is already talking about?
are you more curious about max verstappen's budding relationship with kelly piquet after her messy breakup with departed alphatauri driver, daniil kvyat? or mclaren and williams drivers' involvement between aella gutierrez and logan sargeant after the vast differences in their performance during their rookie season? or is it the fact that venus nightshade's current boyfriend, arthur leclerc, typically sighted in the alpine garage last season with joanna matthews, will now frequent the ferrari garage instead? or is it the rumours that alexis mun and, long-term boyfriend, atticus singh allegedly broke up over the winter break? or are you intrigued by prior mercedes reserve driver, mick schumacher, stepping away from the team to join alpine in the world endurance championship, as his girlfriend, sonnet pham, continues to drive for the same team?
could it be that you're wondering how the nightshades are affected after ferrari's mishandling of the rookie's talent in 2023, while the reigning world champion is accommodated by red bull time and time again? or the friendly sibling rivalry as the leclerc's are separated by a wall between their girlfriends' garages on a race weekend?
frankly, we've got the same questions.

We Fight Together
Robyn: How is she taking it?
Fiona: We... We fixed up her wounds, but...
AAAAAAAAAAAAGH!
Joanna: Dammit! If she keeps smashing against the rocks, she'll reopen her wounds at a minimum, and at worst, she blows our cover and dies anyway from her wounds before we're found!
Qrow: Mm... Ruby...
..................................................................................
Ruby: (Smashing against a boulder) ARGH! DAMMIT! DAMMIT! I'M STILL TOO WEAK!
Qrow: Hey there, Squirt...
Ruby: (Stops) U... Uncle Qrow! You were there, weren't you?! You saw! You saw it! Everything's okay, isn't it?! It's all a dream! Please tell me it was all a dream!
Qrow: ...She's dead, Ruby. Yang's dead.
Ruby: No... No! YOU'RE LYING! YOU'RE-! (Chokeslammed into a wall) ACK!
Qrow: GET AHOLD OF YOURSELF!
Qrow: You just survived the world's deadliest war yet, and you barely survived by the skin of your goddamn teeth! You tried your best, but facing all those powerful enemies shook you to your core, right?!
Qrow: You're drowning in a sea of your own shame and guilt, but you need to stop your damn crying and quit thinking about what you lost! WHAT'S GONE IS GONE, AND YOU CAN NEVER GET IT BACK!
Qrow: SO WHAT DO YOU STILL HAVE?!
Ruby: (Breathing slows, Stops struggling)
Qrow: (Lets go)
Ruby: (Slides into her butt, Looks at hands)
Ruby: (Closes thumb)
Ruby sneaks into the dormroom. Weiss is looking away, studying at her desk. Reaching forward, she readies to pinch Weiss' neck. Aaaaaaaaand...
"Ruby, don't even. I'm studying right now."
Ruby: (Closes second finger)
Ruby looks up to see Blake glaring through binoculars. With a growl, she calls down to everyone. Even through the howling winds and the pouring rain, she can still hear her.
"Grimm, two hundred yards ahead!"
Ruby: (Closes third finger)
"Just you wait and see!"
Ruby watched as Jaune boasted from his perch by the lake. There was a tackle box of lures sitting next to him, rented from the boathouse close by. He jabbed a thumb to himself.
"Back home, I was the fish champion!"
Ruby: (Closes fourth finger)
"Ruby, if you keep pestering me, you won't get as much as everyone else."
Ren warned from his place at the stove. Without looking, he knew she was sneaking sugar into his recipe. She thought it would help the kelp and algae taste. Ren thought otherwise.
"Trust me, Ruby! I used to bandage up Renny all the time when we were kids! I even taught him a few things!"
Nora wrapped the gauze tight around Ruby's hand. Her fingers felt a little cold, but Nora assured that was her blood loss talking. Later, she'd verify with Ren.
Ruby: (Tears brim, Closes fist and a thumb)
"Huh? You wanna learn how to pick pockets? I guess I can teach you a thing or two."
The lessons didn't last long, but Ruby did learn a thing or two about snatching jewelry and wallets. That is, until Weiss and Ren came after her and Nora respectively. Emerald feigned ignorance, of course.
Ruby: (Closes other hands finger)
"Oh! Greetings, Ruby, my friend! Would you like to join me in my routine self-diagnostic?"
Ruby carefully backed away from her best friend. However, no was never an acceptable answer for Penny. So, taken by the hand again, Ruby was forced to think about herself with Penny. It was nice, but always ended with her feeling like she should go see a doctor.
"Do not worry, Ruby, my friend! I'll always be at my most functional for your mission!"
"Good morning, Miss Rose. Did you sleep well? A rested mind is the greatest tool in a Huntresses arsenal."
With a blink, the former headmaster of Beacon returned to his host's mind, leaving the awkward boy alone with the awkward girl. He scratched his head and blushed as she did the same, both embarrassed by the sudden shift.
"Uh, g-good morning, Ruby."
Weiss: Ruby!
Blake: Ruby.
Jaune: Crater Face!
Ren: Ruby.
Nora: Ruby~!
Emerald: Ruby.
Penny: Ruby, my friend~!
Ozpin: Miss Rose.
Oscar: Ruby.
''RUBY''
Ruby: (Opens her fingers, Closes her fingers) M-Muh team...
Ruby: (Openly sobbing, Shaking) I STILL HAVE MY TEAM! WEISS! BLAKE! JAUNE! NORA! REN! PENNY! OSCAR! EMERALD! PROFESSOR OZPIN! THEY'RE MY TEAM!
Ruby: I need to see 'em! I NEED TO SEE 'EM!

‘I want to do something significant’: ex-F1 champion Nico Rosberg on his sustainable entrepreneurship
originally published by Joanna Partridge for The Guardian 13 June 2023 (x)
Tumblr media
The former elite driver has changed lanes from fossil-fuel-guzzling track cars to green investing and environmentally friendly racing.
In a parallel world, former Formula One world champion Nico Rosberg could be sitting at home in Monaco with his feet up, having set himself up for life, all before the tender age of 32.
After clinching the world championship in 2016, beating his rival Lewis Hamilton in the process, Rosberg shocked the world of motor sport by promptly quitting the pursuit that had been his life since starting competitive racing at the age of six.
Like many sports stars who retire relatively early, he has moved into punditry, commentating for Sky, but unusually he also appears to have effortlessly switched lanes from professional sportsman to entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist.
Sipping sparkling water in a hotel overlooking Hyde Park, the German-Finnish former champion has “got used” to talking about his retirement, despite being just 37. “I am so incredibly lucky,” he admits. “Thanks to the racing, I have financial freedom and I can do whatever I want.”
Despite sporting a tan, relaxed expression and understated navy clothing, Rosberg reveals a glimpse of a sportsman’s inner drive when he explains his motivation: “I want to do something significant, I want to contribute and I want to grow.
“I was always inspired by people who took that entrepreneurial path, investing to support or create something.” He rules out a return to racing, stressing he wants to use “the legacy of that, for my new endeavours”.
Rosberg now employs 15 people to work on his business and investment affairs, and his new endeavours include brand ambassador roles for German energy company EnBW – where he is the face of its electric charging network – and logistics provider Jungheinrich, but he describes himself on professional networking site LinkedIn as a “sustainability entrepreneur and angel investor”.
Rosberg has previously spoken about how he only gained a broader perspective on life after stepping off the international Formula One merry-go-round. Perhaps surprisingly, given his background in a fossil-fuel-guzzling sport, Rosberg now speaks with the zeal of a convert about sustainability and the importance of drawing attention to the climate crisis, something he admits he gave little thought to during his racing career.
This passion led him to found the Greentech festival, along with engineers and entrepreneurs Marco Voigt and Sven Krüger, in 2019. This year’s conference starts on Wednesday in Berlin, and the event is described by the organisers as a “global platform for pioneering and sustainable ideas”.
Rosberg says his wealth has afforded him the luxury to focus on these new interests, including investing in sustainability-focused startups, while also creating an endowment for his “grandchildren” (he and his wife’s two children are seven and five).
Indeed, one reason for this trip to London was a meeting with charitable foundation the Wellcome Trust, one of the UK’s largest philanthropic investors, known for its track record of impressive financial returns.
Forbes puts Rosberg’s net worth at just over $20m (£16m), although this seems a conservative estimate, given the earning power of the world’s elite racing drivers. He admits to having “software” that provides him with an exact figure, but will not be drawn on what that is, other than adding: “The top F1 driver earns $40m a year.”
Another of his ventures presumably comes with the need for deep pockets: He owns Rosberg X Racing, a team in the new environmentally conscious motor sport Extreme E. Now in its third season, the series sees electric off-road SUVs race in different locations around the globe that have been affected by the climate crisis.
The teams, each comprising a male and a female driver, are racing this season across five locations, from Saudi Arabia to Scotland, and Italy to the Americas. In an effort to limit their environmental impact, the series’ vehicles, logistics equipment and infrastructure are shipped, rather than flown, around the world aboard the St Helena, a former Royal Mail ship. The races are televised, but take place without spectators.
Rosberg’s team, now third in the standings, is sponsored by IG Prime, a division of financial brokerage IG, among others, and is considered an evolution of Team Rosberg, the motor sport outfit founded in the 1990s by his father, Keke. Other Extreme E team founders include Hamilton and former British Formula One driver Jenson Button.
The series claimed a global audience of 135 million in 2022, more than 30% up on viewership during its inaugural season. However, this pales into insignificance compared with Formula One, riding high and growing its fanbase, especially in the US.
Rosberg hopes Extreme E entertains viewers, while getting them to “do their part, and contribute, and think about their own lives” amid the climate crisis.
Rosberg says his own car is an all-electric Audi e-tron, extolling the virtues of the charging network in mainland Europe – and says he does not “like it any more” if he is collected by a fossil fuel-powered car when travelling abroad. He also says he takes the train in Germany, but skirts over whether he flies by private jet.
His focus on sustainability extends to his investment portfolio, which does not contain any oil, tobacco or defence companies. However, he is at something of a loss to explain the involvement in Extreme E of Saudi Arabia, which hosted the first race of the season, but is also the world’s biggest producer of fossil fuels, and home to the world’s biggest oil company, Saudi Aramco, which is 95% government-owned. “I would understand that there are some people, where it doesn’t sit too well with them,” Rosberg says. “All our partners in Extreme E are allowing us to do a lot of good, which we are very grateful for.
“Sometimes you need to go out there a little bit to do a lot of good.”
After the regimented existence of his early years, where his job determined his timetable, Rosberg clearly relishes being his own boss. He vociferously rules out a future return to Formula One, whether as a driver or running a team: “Never, ever, ever, because I value my freedom,” he says. “It was very intense.”
Rosberg still watches all the Formula One races but confesses the experience is not relaxing: “When the lights go off, I imagine I’m there.”
Few would imagine that investing could produce the same high, but he insists he has other ways to get his adrenaline fix: “In business, and on the tennis court.”
CV
Age: 37
Family: Married, with two young children
Education: International School of Monaco
Pay: Undisclosed. “My income comes from representing brands, I am the face of the biggest electric [vehicle] charging infrastructure in Germany from EnBW, and Jungheinrich, the logistics mobility provider. That is one important source of income for me.” He says his income comes from representing brands, his investments in startups yet to deliver significant returns.
Last holiday: Ibiza, where his family has a holiday home and owns an ice-cream parlour. “It’s our favourite place to go.”
Best advice he’s been given: “My father said: ‘You always meet twice in life.’”
Biggest career mistake: “Investing into a great idea, but where the founders were not 100% convincing.”
Word he overuses: “Big bang,” according to his assistant Lena. He adds: “We talk about building reputation … I like to think in ‘big bang’ stories, such as winning the Extreme E championship.”
How he relaxes: Playing tennis; “I am average good.”

in light of this post i wanna talk abt my ocs names!!!! obv some of u were already here for the changes but!!!! the logic behind my da oc names hehehehe
WARDENS
Evadne (/iːˈvædniː/; Ancient Greek: Εὐάδνη): From Greek Εὐάδνη (Euadne), from εὖ (eu) meaning "good" possibly combined with Cretan Greek ἀδνός (adnos) meaning "holy".
Explanation: Felt like an unwell name for a trans Circle mage to choose for herself.
Kalyani (/kæljɑːni/; Sanskrit: कल्याणी): Means "beautiful, lovely, auspicious" in Sanskrit.
Explanation: Default Tabris is Kallian, which seems like a good Fereldan name, but I really wanted to draw on themes around belonging and identity with Kal, and so giving her a name that could be confused for Kallian was something I really wanted to do - to reflect the Anglicisation that often happens to our mothertongue names. Also, desi elves ftw.
Faris (/ˈfaː.ris/; Arabic; فارس): Means "horseman, knight" in Arabic.
Explanation: One of my favourite names.
Aedan (/ˈeɪ.dən/; Old Irish: Áedán): From the Old Irish name Áedán meaning "little fire", a diminutive of Áed.
Explanation: Literally just the default m!Cousland name because I could not be bothered.
CHAMPIONS
Lysander (/laɪˈsændə/): Latinized form of the Greek name Λύσανδρος (Lysandros), and it means "liberator".
Explanation: Pro-mage Hawke. Self explanatory (:
Miranda (/mɪ.ˈɹæn.də/): Derived from Latin mirandus meaning "admirable, wonderful". The name was created by Shakespeare for the heroine in his play The Tempest (1611), in which Miranda and her father Prospero are stranded on an island.
Explanation: I do just like the name but hmmm potentially some thoughts around mage!Hawke and Malcolm dynamics...?
Damon (/ˈdeɪ.mən/; Ancient Greek: Δάμων): Derived from Greek δαμάζω (damazo) meaning "to tame". According to Greek legend, Damon and Pythias were friends who lived on Syracuse in the 4th century BC. When Pythias was sentenced to death, he was allowed to temporarily go free on the condition that Damon take his place in prison. Pythias returned just before Damon was to be executed in his place, and the king was so impressed with their loyalty to one another that he pardoned Pythias.
Explanation: Thinking about Handers so no one talk to me rn.
Amalia (/a.ˈmaː.li̯a/; Greek; Αμαλία): Short form of Germanic names beginning with the element amal. This element means "unceasing, vigorous, brave", or it can refer to the Gothic dynasty of the Amali (derived from the same root).
Explanation: Chose this one because I wanted a warrior!Hawke, who was only ever really a warrior because of necessity. Of all my Hawkes, Mal is actually the one who adapts to being a noble well (Leandra's daughter, through and through), and so I wanted to explore different kinds of strength.
Alexis (/ə.ˈlɛk.sɪs/; Ancient Greek; Ἄλεξις): From the Greek name Ἄλεξις (Alexis) meaning "helper" or "defender", derived from Greek ἀλέξω (alexo) meaning "to defend, to help".
Explanation: Felt like a super fitting name for a red warrior Hawke tbh!!!!
Joan (/ˈd͡ʒoʊn/): Medieval English form of Johanne, an Old French form of Iohanna (Joanna). A famous bearer was Joan of Arc, a patron saint of France (where she is known as Jeanne d'Arc). She was a 15th-century peasant girl who, after claiming she heard messages from God, was given leadership of the French army. She defeated the English in the battle of Orléans but was eventually captured and burned at the stake.
Explanation: Joan is my pro-Templar Sebmancing playthrough. Of course I named her after Joan of Arc.
Maimunah (/maj.ˈmuː.nah/; Arabic: ميمونة): Means "auspicious, blessed, favourable" in Arabic, in the Malay and Indonesian form.
Explanation: Thought about Malcolm naming his tiny mage daughter and wanted to cry. Also, I've always really loved this name - I knew an adult with this name as a kid, and she was really just... I admired her so much. So why not!!!
INQUISITOR
Isra (/ʔis.ˈraːʔ/; Arabic: إسراء): Means "nocturnal journey", derived from Arabic سرى (sara) meaning "to travel at night" - refers to the Prophet's journey from Makkah to Jerusalem (Isra' and Mi'raj)
Explanation: If you know the context behind this name, then the link to the Herald is quite obvious.
Iskandar (/ʔis.ˈkan.dar/; Arabic: إسكندر): Arabic, Malay and Indonesian form of the name Alexander, which is the Latinized form of the Greek name Ἀλέξανδρος (Alexandros), which meant "defending men" from Greek ἀλέξω (alexo) meaning "to defend, help" and ἀνήρ (aner) meaning "man" (genitive ἀνδρός).
Explanation: I've talked a bit abt it before over here!
Mahanon
Explanation: Default m!Lavellan name.
Ellana
Explanation: Default f!Lavellan name.
Marya (/ˈma.rʲjə/)
Explanation: Actually, I wanted to do Arya but. Um. I accidentally. Anyway.

Modern Jo March constantly, CONSTANTLY, going to protests and always writing for intersectional feminist zines (whilst also writing smutty romance novels on Amazon to make some dough). She still goes by “she” but there is most certainly an ace pin on her bag and when asked about her gender she just kinda goes ┐( ̄ヘ ̄)┌. She lives with an older college professor and they fondly call themselves “purely platonic life partners”.
Modern Meg March growing up so desperately wanting to be a rich girl — have the latest tech, stay faithfully on trend, buy knockoff luxury brands — only to grow up and grow fond of things like vintage film cameras and hand-sewn clothes. (They last longer and also #cottagecoreaesthetic). May or may not have a parenting and housekeeping blog; don’t worry, it’s earnest and not too “crunchy”. She and her mother make some pretty killer jam that they sell on Etsy. Her husband is a public school teacher and tutored her childhood friend in high school.
Modern Beth March living with a chronic illness and using YouTube and TikTok as an outlet, because she can’t really talk to people but she can manage talking to a camera. Her piano playing went viral but she gets shy when asked about it and downplays it. She calls subscribers/followers her “dolls” in her intro and always does giveaways of hand-embroidered or crocheted trinkets she made herself. After she reaches a certain point in her condition she creates the “Joanna Foundation”, named after a favorite childhood toy, that outlives her but never outshines her.
Modern Amy March appearing almost like a Conservative White Girl because of her ability to maneuver through upper crust society via patriarchal channels, but still using the money she happens to marry into (everyone thinks she married FOR money but she knows better) and ecrus through her art curating to support charities championing the liberation and protection child brides and victims of the sex trafficking industry. She also has a secret DeviantArt and art Tumblr that you will NEVER find.
Modern Theodore “Laurie” Laurence always traveling and having an Instagram feed full of breathtaking views and monuments but ALSO of music he’s produced himself (some based off of original sheet music he was given to by a late friend…), videos of stunts he pulled with his college friends (think flash mobs at fundraising events, serenading girls for Valentine’s Day, and Ice Bucket challenges), and photos of him and his wife attending a yearly Masquerade Ball and the Met Gala. He always captions those last ones with “my lord, my lady”, and the blonde woman in the pictures looks quite familiar.
Just!! MODERN LITTLE WOMEN!!

Zhang Weili vs Joanna Jedrzejczyk 1 - UFC 248
Zhang Weili (23-3) went out and showed she is just at the top of the mountain in her last fight, defending her title by trucking Amanda Lemos for 25 minutes. Hopefully the UFC commits to keeping her active in 2024 as she only fought once in 2023. With a couple of more key wins, she'll have an argument for clearing out the competition at 115lbs and a fight with the champion at 125lbs could become a real possibility for her.
Weili will face off with fellow Chinese strawweight Yan Xiaonan (17-3) in the co-main event of UFC 300.

I was in the middle of sending you a wholesome meme cos it seems like you’ve had a rough time lately (which girl me too is Mercury in Retrograde lately wtf 🥲) and then this is how I get the news that Fucking Joanne™️ is doing Holocaust revisionism now lmao it’s like she knew I’d finally lowered my blood pressure 🥴
But I suppose that’s all the more reason for a wholesome meme cleanse so *throws this at you, runs back into bed and tries to get some goddamn sleep*
Tumblr media
I literally looked it up and it's not, so can't even blame this shit on mercury 😒
Believe me dude I was as bamboozled as you when I read that shit. I mean I shouldn't have been. Cuz honestly terfs are gonna terf and like any bigot they'll just lie and motte-bailey and rewrite history at will to fit their narrative and never think twice about it because the end result always HAS to be that they're right and incapable of ever making a mistake.
They are always infallible. Their detractors just don't understand the logical nuances of their totally-not-wrong argument 😤
What really kills me tho is that no matter how much evidence is brought to the table about just how hateful (and lbr kinda dumb) she is, her cult will not listen. They won't. They will just blindly follow her and believe her rhetoric over historical facts. They'll twist themselves into pretzels to excuse anything she says or does, because admitting she is wrong about even 1 thing would mean admitting there's a possibility that she's wrong about others, meaning there's a possibility they really have just been following along and supporting a transphobe who has ties with antisemitic themes within her writing and who is now spouting holocaust revisionist talking points.
Except she's not, right? Cuz Joanna is never wrong ಠ_ಠ
She's just a champion for Women™®
It's just.... sigh.
Anyway, go to bed deary, and thank you for the well wishes. Wish for me to actually get answers 🤞

I fucking SCREAMED when Linksano referred to Linkara's universe/home as 'our universe' and 'our home' in the latest episode. (Also headcanon that Jaeris was only nominated Champion because he wasn't in his home universe - Joanna got contacted but she was kinda busy)
FUCK I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE THAT
iirc he was the first one to call the comicrew a family??? tbh i think jaeris losing the contest of champions and then immediately trying to steal the prize from the guy who won is rlly funny jaeris having like. comically abysmal luck is so funny
i just cant see jaeris as like. a Hero Guy the way linkara is like i feel like a large amount of jaeris's appeal is that hes just A Guy. not a god. not a fictional character. not an evil doppelganger just like, a guy who has been Put in Situations. i cant see him as wanting to be put in additional situations
linkara can get knocked down and go though hard times but he always ends up back in some wacky adventure thats how he is he needs shenanigans its enrichment
jaeris CAN be a badass adventurer but like this man is legally owed a nap by multiple governments. this man deserves to live comfortably with his wife and never have to do anything exiting or dangerous ever again
but like also i hc that magic weapons are a SI for jaeris so he def watches the contest of champions. at home. with his wife who he loves. and they are together. and safe

‘ i would rather die because i betrayed them than live because i betrayed you ’  (jaime @ joanna) // @dcviline
Tumblr media
Where does it come from, this unerring loyalty, this head rightly twined into socket? It's a cold breeze blowing over her soul, reckoning where golden blood gave way to red-blooded sentiment. How did Tywin's son reckon family the superior of a name?
Her beautiful boy. Her foolish first son. Her avenger.

Years spent praying for a champion, for broader hands than her own that could wield a sword without tiring, and here he stands. It is too late to make it right for her, blood could never wash out the indignity -- But it pleases her all the same. Gods, it pleases her.
Those small, marble hands now rest against his face, her hold like iron. "They cannot have you," she says, tone gilded with sureness. "There will be no blade raised to you that can prosper, Jaime. You know that. And if those Winter Wolves come baying for honor and justice, ask them what they intended to do with the wretched bastard when they bound him in iron--"
Damn them. Damn them all. Why waste so much blood over one foolish girl? Was the coming generation so weak that they could not endure the least of what hers had known? Fire dances behind her eyes, white-hot, and it is only some deep well of self-control that keeps her teeth hidden. Why should Aerys pay for the sins of the son?
He had his own to answer for. Her Jaime had made it so. The heat rolls out of her in a long sigh, Joanna's hands dropping lest he feel the tremble in them. No. There was no blaming Jaime for doing what must be done. It doesn't matter why it came to pass, only that it was done. He is more a man in her eyes than even his father.
Deftly, she overlooks evidence to the contrary, the softness of a face that still so favors his sister, the growing he still must do to measure up to his peers. Becoming is a bloody business. He's far too old for her to wish it had been easier for him.
Perhaps she was never a worthy enough mother to pray an easier path for her children. Perhaps she was damned too young to dream of better paths.
"You will not die, Jaime," she says at last. "It would be a waste of your bravery. We have won. Slain the dragon and scattered its seed. The Baratheon boy is a fool, but you conducted yourself..." Poorly. It galls her not to sit where another had, to take from one Queen who had given her nothing besides. And yes, part of her aches to crown her own son, to give the realm the promise of a golden warrior over a moon-pale singer.
"...Adequately. It will be easy to cow him, between your father and I." It is easier to say these things now, to speak of quiet defiance and molten grasp hidden beneath velvet gloves. He has slain a King. What must loyalty mean to him now, besides his own admission of Mother, Mother, Mother?
His Mother is no font of mercy.
She smiles like one though, a soft, tender expression modeled on a Sept's effigy. "Though that is for Tywin and I to discuss. We... Should be talking about you." You, who will not bow to a Stag, trying not to trip over the wires that your parents stitch into him. You, the best of all sons.

Operation Stumpy Re-Read
ASOS: Jaime VIII (Chapter 67)
I am a stranger in my own House. His son was dead, his father had disowned him, and his sister . . . she had not allowed him to be alone with her once, after that first day in the royal sept where Joffrey lay amongst the candles. Even when they bore him across the city to his tomb in the Great Sept of Baelor, Cersei kept a careful distance.
Maybe she was worried you'd want to fuck on the tomb?
+.+.+
The table itself was old weirwood, pale as bone, carved in the shape of a huge shield supported by three white stallions. By tradition the Lord Commander sat at the top of the shield, and the brothers three to a side, on the rare occasions when all seven were assembled.
Why three stallions?
+.+.+
The Book of the Brothers was its formal name, but more often it was simply called the White Book.
[...]
The heraldic drawings and illuminations were done by septons sent from the Great Sept of Baelor three times a year, but it was the duty of the Lord Commander to keep the entries up to date.
[...]
Ser Barristan Selmy had preceded Jaime as Lord Commander. The shield atop his page showed the arms of House Selmy: three stalks of wheat, yellow, on a brown field. Jaime was amused, though unsurprised, to find that Ser Barristan had taken the time to record his own dismissal before leaving the castle.
[...]
Jaime's own page was scant by comparison.
Ser Jaime of House Lannister. Firstborn son of Lord Tywin and Lady Joanna of Casterly Rock. Served against the Kingswood Brotherhood as squire to Lord Summer Crakehall. Knighted in his 15th year by Ser Arthur Dayne of the Kingsguard, for valor in the field. Chosen for the Kingsguard in his 15th year by King Aerys II Targaryen. During the Sack of King's Landing, slew King Aerys II at the foot of the Iron Throne. Thereafter known as the "Kingslayer." Pardoned for his crime by King Robert I Baratheon. Served in the honor guard that brought his sister the Lady Cersei Lannister to King's Landing to wed King Robert. Champion in the tourney held at King's Landing on the occasion of their wedding.
Summed up like that, his life seemed a rather scant and mingy thing. Ser Barristan could have recorded a few of his other tourney victories, at least.
I'm going to do something shocking and side with Jaime here. Yes this is a pitiful career, but if you read Barristan Selmy's life history (it's in the book), there's a handful of entries related to tournament wins. Barristan isn't extending the same respect to Jaime.
Also,
Wounded by arrow, spear, and sword at the Battle of the Trident whilst fighting beside his Sworn Brothers and Rhaegar Prince of Dragonstone. Pardoned, and named Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, by King Robert I Baratheon.
vs.
During the Sack of King's Landing, slew King Aerys II at the foot of the Iron Throne. Thereafter known as the "Kingslayer." Pardoned for his crime by King Robert I Baratheon.
Nice, Selmy.
Barristan didn't commit a crime like Jaime, he was doing his duty.
Yeah? Well, I think loyally serving a lunatic who burns innocent people alive is a pretty clear crime. Couldn't help but notice Ned Stark had no problem walking away from Robert and his duty.
+.+.+
The world was simpler in those days, Jaime thought, and men as well as swords were made of finer steel. Or was it only that he had been fifteen?
The good old days, when Targaryens were drinking fire and butchering each other.
+.+.+
And me, that boy I was . . . when did he die, I wonder? When I donned the white cloak? When I opened Aerys's throat? That boy had wanted to be Ser Arthur Dayne, but someplace along the way he had become the Smiling Knight instead.
The Smiling Knight was a madman, cruelty and chivalry all jumbled up together, but he did not know the meaning of fear.
Honestly, not too far off. Lol
+.+.+
Ser Boros and Ser Meryn sat to his right, leaving an empty chair between them for Ser Arys Oakheart, off in Dorne. Ser Osmund, Ser Balon, and Ser Loras took the seats to his left. The old and the new. Jaime wondered if that meant anything. There had been times during its history where the Kingsguard had been divided against itself, most notably and bitterly during the Dance of the Dragons. Was that something he needed to fear as well?
I don't know, but you've certainly made me consider that possibility.
+.+.+
Ser Balon Swann frowned. "The Imp was not alone on the dais. Far from it. That late in the feast, we had people standing and moving about, changing places, slipping off to the privy, servants were coming and going . . . the king and queen had just opened the wedding pie, every eye was on them or those thrice-damned doves. No one was watching the wine cup."
"Who else was on the dais?" asked Jaime.
Ser Meryn answered. "The king's family, the bride's family, Grand Maester Pycelle, the High Septon . . ."
Kudos to Balon Swann for doing the minimum, and examining other options.
Balon Swann is such a weird character. Jaime thinks to himself that Balon is better suited for the white cloak than all his brothers, and up until this point there's little to refute that.
Then A Dance with Dragons happens, and this guy is participating in murder plots targeting kids. Pardon?
Tumblr media
+.+.+
"No," the Knight of Flowers said, unamused. "Sansa Stark was the poisoner. You all forget, my sister was drinking from that chalice as well. Sansa Stark was the only person in the hall who had reason to want Margaery dead, as well as the king. By poisoning the wedding cup, she could hope to kill both of them. And why did she run afterward, unless she was guilty?"
The boy makes sense. Tyrion might yet be innocent. No one was any closer to finding the girl, however. Perhaps Jaime should look into that himself.
Sansa Stark is the only person in this story looking out for your sister, you dolt. Her and granny.
Anyway, fun time with parallels: Loras Tyrell falsely accuses both Brienne and Sansa of killing kings! Weee.
+.+.+
For a start, it would be good to know how she had gotten out of the castle. Varys may have a notion or two about that. No one knew the Red Keep better than the eunuch.
And the rats.
+.+.+
Ser Osmund Kettleblack was the first to arrive. He gave Jaime a grin, as if they were old brothers-in-arms.
x
"Ser Osmund. I do not know you. I find that curious. I've fought in tourneys, mêlées, and battles throughout the Seven Kingdoms. I know of every hedge knight, freerider, and upjumped squire of any skill who has ever presumed to break a lance in the lists. So how is it that I have never heard of you, Ser Osmund?"
"That I couldn't say, my lord." He had a great wide smile on his face, did Ser Osmund, as if he and Jaime were old comrades in arms playing some jolly little game.
x
What was Cersei thinking when she gave this one a white cloak?
x
The man's grin returned. He left swaggering.
Tumblr media
+.+.+
Ser Balon's unease was plain. "Donnel erred, but he is Tommen's man now. You have my word."
"It's not Ser Donnel the Constant who concerns me. It's you." Jaime leaned forward. "What will you do if brave Ser Donnel gives his sword to yet another usurper, and one day comes storming into the throne room? And there you stand all in white, between your king and your blood. What will you do?"
"I . . . my lord, that will never happen."
"It happened to me," Jaime said.
Should I be paying attention to this?
House Swann of Stonehelm is a noble house from the stormlands. Aegon VI and the Golden Company are currently eating up the stormlands.
Is this dude Jaime-lite?
+.+.+
Jaime hated that smile. "I was better than you, Ser Loras. I was bigger, I was stronger, and I was quicker."
"And now you're older," the boy said. "My lord."
He had to laugh. This is too absurd. Tyrion would mock me unmercifully if he could hear me now, comparing cocks with this green boy. "Older and wiser, ser. You should learn from me."
"As you learned from Ser Boros and Ser Meryn?"
That arrow hit too close to the mark. "I learned from the White Bull and Barristan the Bold," Jaime snapped. "I learned from Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning, who could have slain all five of you with his left hand while he was taking with a piss with the right. I learned from Prince Lewyn of Dorne and Ser Oswell Whent and Ser Jonothor Darry, good men every one."
"Dead men, every one."
He's me, Jaime realized suddenly. I am speaking to myself, as I was, all cocksure arrogance and empty chivalry. This is what it does to you, to be too good too young.
"There are no men like me. There's only me." - Catelyn VII, ACOK
Ha!
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is the first time it's mentioned that Arthur Dayne was equally capable of fighting with his left and right hand.
Contrary to what the show depicted, when you revisit Ned's flashback, he's holding Dawn with both hands:
"And now it begins," said Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning. He unsheathed Dawn and held it with both hands. The blade was pale as milkglass, alive with light. - Eddard X, AGOT
Feels kind of relevant this is popping up in a Jaime chapter for the first time.
Oh, and Qhorin! I can't forget Qhorin.
Qhorin drew his longsword. The tale of how he had taught himself to fight with his left hand after losing half of his right was part of his legend; it was said that he handled a blade better now than he ever had before. - Jon VIII, ACOK
Damn, I wonder if abandoning the gap torpedoed Jaime's chances of properly building up his left hand. Oops?
+.+.+
"It's said you fought magnificently in the battle . . . almost as well as Lord Renly's ghost beside you. A Sworn Brother has no secrets from his Lord Commander. Tell me, ser. Who was wearing Renly's armor?"
For a moment Loras Tyrell looked as though he might refuse, but in the end he remembered his vows. "My brother," he said sullenly. "Renly was taller than me, and broader in the chest. His armor was too loose on me, but it suited Garlan well."
"Was the masquerade your notion, or his?"
"Lord Littlefinger suggested it. He said it would frighten Stannis's ignorant men-at-arms."
What's with Littlefinger suggesting that?
In a recent chapter, while Tyrion's in the middle of another tantrum, Garlan kindly acknowledges his contributions during the Battle of the Blackwater.
"If I am ever Hand again, the first thing I'll do is hang all the singers," said Tyrion, too loudly.
Lady Leonette laughed lightly beside him, and Ser Garlan leaned over to say, "A valiant deed unsung is no less valiant." - Tyrion VIII, ASOS
I totally missed this could also be applied to Garlan. Now Tyrion's whining is even funnier.
+.+.+
"She had sworn to protect him [Renly]. Ser Emmon Cuy, Ser Robar Royce, Ser Parmen Crane, they'd sworn as well. How could anyone have hurt him, with her inside his tent and the others just outside? Unless they were part of it."
"There were five of you at the wedding feast," Jaime pointed out. "How could Joffrey die? Unless you were part of it?"
[...]
"She fled," he said. "She and Catelyn Stark, they left him in his blood and ran. Why would they, if it was not their work?" He stared at the table. "Renly gave me the van. Otherwise it would have been me helping him don his armor. He often entrusted that task to me. We had . . . we had prayed together that night. I left him with her. Ser Parmen and Ser Emmon were guarding the tent, and Ser Robar Royce was there as well. Ser Emmon swore Brienne had . . . although . . ."
"Yes?" Jaime prompted, sensing a doubt.
"The gorget was cut through. One clean stroke, through a steel gorget. Renly's armor was the best, the finest steel. How could she do that? I tried myself, and it was not possible. She's freakish strong for a woman, but even the Mountain would have needed a heavy axe. And why armor him and then cut his throat?" He gave Jaime a confused look. "If not her, though . . . how could it be a shadow?"
JUSTICE FOR BRIENNE.
+.+.+
The younger man started for the door. But there he turned back. "Renly thought she was absurd. A woman dressed in man's mail, pretending to be a knight."
"If he'd ever seen her in pink satin and Myrish lace, he would not have complained."
"I asked him why he kept her close, if he thought her so grotesque. He said that all his other knights wanted things of him, castles or honors or riches, but all that Brienne wanted was to die for him. When I saw him all bloody, with her fled and the three of them unharmed . . . if she's innocent, then Robar and Emmon . . ." He could not seem to say the words.
Jaime had not stopped to consider that aspect of it. "I would have done the same, ser." The lie came easy, but Ser Loras seemed grateful for it.
Fuck Renly Baratheon's rotting corpse.
Jaime's not alone. I never considered how big of a deal it is that Loras killed his sworn brothers in a blind rage. That's bad. That's really bad. Plus he killed a Royce! That's the greatest sin of all.
+.+.+
The Knight of Flowers had been so mad with grief for Renly that he had cut down two of his own Sworn Brothers, but it had never occurred to Jaime to do the same with the five who had failed Joffrey. He was my son, my secret son . . . What am I, if I do not lift the hand I have left to avenge mine own blood and seed? He ought to kill Ser Boros at least, just to be rid of him.
Ser Boros will probably die of a heart attack before Jaime can get to him, but I'm including this just in case.
+.+.+
He looked at his stump and grimaced. I must do something about that. If the late Ser Jacelyn Bywater could wear an iron hand, he should have a gold one. Cersei might like that. A golden hand to stroke her golden hair, and hold her hard against me.
His hand could wait, though. There were other things to tend to first. There were other debts to pay.
Hey, a debt he'll actually pay. Finally.
I'm trying to ignore the golden hand talk. Cringe.
Final thoughts:
Realistically, other than the bear and sending Brienne to find Sansa, what great achievements will Jaime be able to claim by the end of this series?
I have a hard time envisioning him ever fighting the Others, or Daenerys and her armies. This isn't the show, unless the author gives him Tyrion armour, he'll die.
I'm not being a snarky bitch, I'm legitimately trying to figure out what's going in this White Book. Obviously something?
