I know only a few people remember Psych Hunter and no one remembers the original novel that Psych Hunter is adapted from (btw it’s called Xiongzhai Biji — or Haunted Houses Handbook). Personally, I even thought that the franchise went dead.
But voila, today, out of freakin’ nowhere, another drama based on Xiongzhai Biji just got aired on Tencent. And this drama even gets to keep the same name as the novel!
Also apparently this time, they promise they will stick more closely to the novel and not anyhow insert a just-for-the-sake-of-cheap-romance female lead *shoot a deadly glare at Psych Hunter*.
Bromance fans, horror fans, supernatural fans, I have no idea if this drama will be good or bad (to be safe, I’d say let’s just keep our expectations not too high), but I really need to shout to y’all about it:
(For anyone keen to know a bit more about Xiongzhai Biji: About the novel | Artist illustrations of the characters)

1 Character per CDrama - Inktober 2023
19. Jiang Shuo, Psych-Hunter.
I'm both happy and not with this one, I kept changing my mind on which reference photo to use because I was struggling with the likeness.

Prompt: Chen Yuzhi, on his quest to find info to cure Jiang Yuelou of his childhood traumas, meets Jiang Shuo and Qin Yiheng in a restaurant who is meeting with Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao. Yuzhi asks for Zhan Yao and Qin Yiheng’s help. (Jiang Shuo may or might not be a relative for Jiang Yuelou. MYbe a cousin?)
Ohh, a big crossover...I haven't done a three fandom crossover in a long time
Chen Yuzhi sighed as he sat at his desk, staring at his medical terminology textbook; this was much more difficult than he thought.  He knew a lot about the human body and what made it tick, but the human mind?  He didn’t have a lot of experience with that or emotional diseases…And he was quiet stumped on what he should do.  He then let out a heavy sigh before he closed his book and pushed himself to his feet; it was almost lunchtime.  Maybe some food would help.
~*~*~*~*~*~
A little while later, at a relatively quiet hole-in-the-wall restaurant, Chen Yuzhi was eating a bowl of noodles in a back booth when a throat cleared beside him, making him look over to see two young men standing beside his table.
“Do you mind?” one of the men asked.  Chen Yuzhi’s eyes widened and he shook his head.
“Oh, no.  Please” he replied.  The two men smiled and sat down before the taller of the two men looked at him.
“I’m Qin Yiheng.  And this is Jiang Shuo” he introduced, first motioning to himself before he motioned to the man sitting beside him.  Chen Yuzhi dipped his head.
“Chen Yuzhi” he replied before he looked at Jiang Shuo.
“Your last name…would you happen to know anyone by the name of Jiang Yuelou?” he asked.  Jiang Shuo shook his head.
“No, can’t say that I do.  Why?” he asked.  Chen Yuzhi smiled and shook his head.
“No, no, no reason” he replied as Jiang Shuo tilted his head.
“So, what do you do?” he asked.  Chen Yuzhi chuckled.
“I’m a doctor” he replied, causing Jiang Shuo’s eyes to brighten.
“Really?  Oh, you’re just like Qin Er!” he exclaimed.  Chen Yuzhi looked at Qin Yiheng in surprise.
“You’re a doctor as well?” he asked.  Qin Yiheng nodded.
“Mmhm.  What do you specialize in?” he inquired.
“Chinese and Western medicine” Chen Yuzhi stated.  Qin Yiheng hummed appreciatively.
“That’s impressive” he mused.  Chen Yuzhi looked at him.
“And you?” he asked.  Qin Yiheng smiled.
“You could say I’m a general practitioner, but my focus really is helping those with mental illness” he explained.  Chen Yuzhi looked at him with wide eyes.
“Mental illness?” he repeated.  Qin Yiheng hummed, just as two men walked over to their table, the man dressed in navy smiling at them.
“Dr. Qin” he greeted, making Qin Yiheng, Jiang Shuo, and Chen Yuzhi all look up before Qin Yiheng smiled.
“Dr. Zhan” he replied before he motioned to Chen Yuzhi.
“This is Dr. Chen Yuzhi” he introduced.  Chen Yuzhi dipped his head.
“Hello” he greeted.  The man in navy smiled.
“Zhan Yao” he replied, just as the man in white beside him huffed.
“What is this, the meeting of doctors?” he asked.  Zhan Yao looked over at him and gently smacked him on the chest.
“Bai Yutong, be nice” he chided.  Bai Yutong hummed before he motioned to the booth.
“May we?” he asked.  Chen Yuzhi nodded and quickly grabbed his bowl, scooting over so that Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao could sit down, just as the waitress walked over.
“Can I get you gentlemen anything?” she inquired.  Jiang Shuo motioned to Chen Yuzhi’s bowl of noodles.
“We’ll have what he’s having” he replied.  The waitress nodded and turned, heading off to make their orders as Zhan Yao looked over at Chen Yuzhi.
“So, you’re a doctor as well?” he asked.  Chen Yuzhi nodded.
“I’m a doctor who specializes in Chinese and Western medicine” he answered.  Zhan Yao hummed.
“You don’t see many doctors like you anymore” he mused.  Chen Yuzhi smiled slightly before he tilted his head.
“You’re a doctor as well?” he inquired.  Zhan Yao chuckled.
“Not a medical doctor, like you and Dr. Qin.  But I do have a Ph.D. in criminal psychology” he replied.  Chen Yuzhi nodded slowly.
“I see” he murmured before he looked between him and Qin Yiheng.
“So you both understand the mind pretty well?” he asked.  Both men nodded.
“I say we do, why do you ask?” Qin Yiheng inquired.  Chen Yuzhi sighed softly.
“Because I’m trying to learn about the mind and mental illness to help my friend find some sort of cure…but I’m having a hard time” he explained.  Zhan Yao tilted his head.
“What sort of…illness does your friend have?” he asked.  However, before Chen Yuzhi could answer, the waitress returned with the four bowls of noodles, placing them before down before she smiled.
“Enjoy!” she bid before she turned and walked away as Bai Yutong at Chen Yuzhi.
“You were saying?” he asked.  Chen Yuzhi nodded.
“He…I’m not sure, if I’m being honest.  I know it’s tied to his childhood, and it’s triggered whenever he witnesses abuse…but I don’t know how to help him.  He won’t let me” he murmured.
“What sort of abuse?” Jiang Shuo asked.  Chen Yuzhi looked at him before he sighed.
“I don’t know…his first explosive episode if I remember correctly was when I mentioned his parents” he explained.  Zhan Yao hummed softly.
“Ah…I think I know what he has” he murmured, just as Bai Yutong huffed.
“That’s great Cat…but can we eat first before you all start talking about this?  I’m hungry” he grumbled.  Zhan Yao laughed.
“Sorry Mouse.  Yes, yes, let’s eat” he declared.
~*~*~*~*~*~
After eating, Bai Yutong and Jiang Shuo went out of the restaurant to give Zhan Yao, Qin Yiheng, and Chen Yuzhi some privacy to talk.
“So…what do you think Jiang Yuelou has?” Chen Yuzhi asked once they were alone.  Zhao Yao cleared throat.
“Right.  I believe that your friend has trauma or potentially PTSD from witnessing IPV as a child” he stated.  Chen Yuzhi frowned.
“IPV?” he repeated.  Zhan Yao nodded.
“Intimate partner violence” he elaborated.  Chen Yuzhi nodded slowly.
“I see” he murmured before he tilted his head.
“How does this affect him?  I’m sorry if it sounds like such a silly question, but since I don’t know much about psychology and still learning, I don’t truly know the effects, like you two do” he explained.  Zhan Yao smiled and shook his head.
“No question is a stupid or silly question.  So, when a child is exposed one parent abusing another parent, they can demonstrate internalized behaviors, like depression, anxiety, and social withdrawals while also having an increase in externalized behaviors, such as hyperactivity and aggression.  Children who have witnessed IPV also have social integration problems, lower self-esteem, and lower school performance.  He probably has flashbacks and nightmares and has had them for a while” he explained.  Chen Yuzhi nodded slowly again.
“Well, the aggression makes sense…it would explain why he gets so agitated and violent whenever he sees someone abusing someone else…the depression too” he murmured before he looked at Qin Yiheng and Zhan Yao.
“How can I help him?” he asked.  Qin Yiheng hummed.
“Well…the trauma is never going to go away; you must know this.  Trauma stays with you, forever.  But you can learn to control how trauma affects you and how to cope with the effects.  Once he learns how to cope and control his symptoms…he will get better and not succumb to the anger and the hurt and the rage and will be less likely to lash out” he stated.  Chen Yuzhi shook his head.
“But how do I help him?  He won’t talk to me about it” he argued.  Zhan Yao nodded.
“That is a symptom of PTSD, avoidance.  But it is understandable; most people don’t want to talk about their trauma.  They think it makes them weak and vulnerable.  And people don’t like to be weak or vulnerable.  They don’t like to show people their “ugly” sides” he explained as Qin Yiheng looked at him.
“You said the two of you were friends?” he asked.  Chen Yuzhi nodded.
“Yes.  I’d say so” he replied.  Qin Yiheng nodded.
“Then you need to not force him to talk.  Forcing will only shut him down and you many never be able to help him.  Give him time.  As much time as he needs.  Because when he’s ready to talk…he’ll come to you” he assured.
“And make sure you’re willing to listen.  Don’t interrupt, don’t offer solutions.  Just be there and listen.  Show him that he can trust you” Zhan Yao added, making Chen Yuzhi nod as he smiled.
“And remember, the healing process takes time.  It’s not a competition so don’t try to demand that he “get better” on a schedule.  Let him get better on his own time, on his own terms.  You can be there to support and encourage him and be there when he fails or has a setback, because those are inevitable, but don’t force or push him to get better.  That might only cause him to shut down” he stated.  Chen Yuzhi nodded.
“Would…medication help too?” he asked.  Qin Yiheng nodded.
“It can” he replied before he smiled.
“And you seem like a competent doctor, so I trust you to make the right decision to help your friend” he declared.  Chen Yuzhi smiled slightly before he dipped his head.
“Thank you both for your insight.  I really appreciate it” he thanked.  Both Zhan Yao and Qin Yiheng smiled.
“Your friend is lucky to have you, Dr. Chen” Qin Yiheng declared as Zhan Yao nodded.
“And if you have any questions, feel free to give us a call, anything” he instructed before he and Qin Yiheng handed out their cards to Chen Yuzhi, making him smile before he reached into his pocket and pulled out two cards of his own, handing them back to them.
“Thank you” he thanked.  Both Zhan Yao and Qin Yiheng smiled as they took their card before Zhan Yao hummed.
“We should probably see how our partners are doing…I’m sure Bai Yutong’s getting antsy” he murmured, making Qin Yiheng laugh.
“Jiang Shuo too…” he agreed before they all stood up and headed out of the restaurant, Bai Yutong and Jiang Shuo waiting for them outside, Bai Yutong’s arms crossed in front of him.
“You ready to go?” he asked, raising an eyebrow.  Zhan Yao smiled and nodded.
“Thanks for being patient” he thanked.  Bai Yutong huffed.
“I know better than to rush you when you’re talking about psychology” he murmured.  Zhan Yao smirked.
“You’re learning” he teased, making Bai Yutong stick his tongue out at him as Jiang Shuo looked at Qin Yiheng, pouting at him.
“Qin Er!  Can we go get pastries?” he asked.  Qin Yiheng rolled his eyes fondly.
“You foodie” he murmured before he sighed and nodded.
“Alright, fine” he agreed, making Jiang Shuo grin as he laced his arm through his.
“You’re going to pay for them, right?” he asked.  Qin Yiheng gave a fond look.
“Don’t I always?” he replied.  Jiang Shuo laughed and nodded as Chen Yuzhi watched, a small smile on his face; he hoped that he and Jiang Yuelou would get to be as comfortable with each other as Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao and Jiang Shuo and Qin Yiheng were with each other.  But first…he had to get Jiang Yuelou to trust him…to trust that he would help him get better.  Because that’s all he wanted to do.  Help him get better.  But he was sure that with the advice from his new…friends, Jiang Yuelou would be getting better in no time.

wait.. i’m literally on here or weibo almost 24/7 ( as you can tell lol ) but I feel like i missed something. i’m seeing clowning related to xz’s photos and how it looks like he is a groom and it’s a wedding photoshoot. the place is also famous for wedding shoots ( allegedly, idk. i’m not from there ) so turtles are imagining again. lol. freakin coincidence that wyb’s GRA photoshoot was done at a wedding shop. plus the “wedding outfits” for weibo night. which is all clowning and galaxy braining.🌌
Tumblr media
now, we’re joking around, like where’s yibo? he should be taking photos with his partner.
then i see comments that there is this one song WYB recently listened to. meaning, as recent as when XZ flew to singapore which is called 超人不会飞 (superman can’t fly) by Jay Chou. i know WYB and everyone else is a big fan of Jay Chou but the clowning comes from the timing of when he listened to it. let me get to that first.
here is the song if you wanna listen to it. 🎶
youtube
turtles are interpreting it as WYB longing to “fly” to where XZ is and be with him but he can’t because of all his work commitments. he wants to take a breather. thinking about what his life is and the constraints, and at times like this, when they spent days in Beijing, but now they have to be apart, it affects him even more.
however when i read the lyrics, it could also be because he can relate to what jay chou is singing about. here’s the english translation i found here. i have bolded the ones i felt like WYB relates too. literally no need for explanation. just read it. It fits with his status in life so much that it’s almost scary.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with how cpfs are relating this to cpn cause that’s just how it is. But sometimes, there are other reasons why they do what they do.
SO MY CONFUSION COMES FROM HOW THE HELL DO PEOPLE KNOW WHAT HE RECENTLY LISTENED TO. I can’t seem to dig up how or maybe it’s something we don’t talk about. I have never experienced this kind of tidbit related to them before so I wanna know the source. Or is this like the gaming cpn where certain people know and they will not divulge the boy’s account for privacy? if anyone knows, feel free to comment. If i find out in the future, I will share.

Welcome to another round of W2 Tells You What You Should See, where W2 (me) tries to sell you (you) on something you should be watching. Today's choice: 心宅猎人/Psych-Hunter.
Tumblr media
Psych-Hunter is a 2020 drama about a hot young amnesiac who, accompanied by a rich psychiatrist with major daddy issues and a rich girl who cosplays as a cop, uses his Inception-style psychic powers to solve crimes that are part of a shadowy conspiracy orchestrated by a mysterious figure.
True story: Once I couldn't remember the English name of the drama, so I called it "House Haunters," and now my brain insists that's the real English title. If only!
Tumblr media
Do not, under any circumstances, labor under the impression that this show is good. It's not. It's incoherent. The writing is bad. The villain is absurd. The vibe is comically melodramatic. People make inexplicable and out-of-character decisions all the time. Countless complex mysteries get set up with no way to resolve them. There's a thin lampshade hanging over it that blurs the line between bad decisions made on accident and bad decisions made on purpose, but the net result is largely the same. This is the show that first inspired my wife to declare something dumb as a guinea pig in a roller skate.
But it's fun. It's a sea of colorful chaos with brilliant pieces that shine through like strange gems. It knows how to work an atmosphere and does so to create some legitimately creepy moments. It spins a wild yarn filled with bizarre and loveable characters. And it has some twists that truly have to be seen to be believed. In the mood for some beautiful nonsense? Here's five reasons that despite everything I warned you about in the previous paragraph, I think this one's worth watching.
1. Psychonauts for Jazz Age homosexuals
Honestly, that phrase alone should let you know if this is the thing for you. But just in case, let me explain the basic premise of the show:
Jiang Shuo, a man who has lost his memory and been adopted by circus folk, is capable of jingling his keys and diving full-body into someone else's subconscious, represented by lovely and thematic dreamscapes. He does this to solve crimes. Sometimes he takes along a handsome doctor who seems like he might know more than he's letting on, by literally tying their hands together with a red string.
Tumblr media
Also, when they do this, they get gorgeous steampunk magical girl costume changes, complete with the cutest little pony nub you've ever seen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This show can be stunningly beautiful. It knows how to manifest dream logic eerily well. Most of these cognitions are gorgeous, and many are done with primarily practical effects, like it's a stage play. ...And it's good it relies on that so much, because the CG it has is kinda cheap and terrible! So, yeah.
(Side note for the DMBJ fans: This is directed by the same guy who directed Sand Sea, which I assume is related to how this both is a visual treat and completely falls apart on the back end.)
Tumblr media
The reason I'm a bit surprised that this hasn't taken off more among the creative set is what a great piece of worldbuilding this Psych-diving is. These boys (and, once, the girl) get to short-term manifest bodily in someone else's materialized mental state, where the person whose brain they’re in neither controls the experience nor remembers what happened after it’s done. Were you writing weird Arthur/Eames fic a decade ago? I got a new best thing for you. Can you say freaky dream sex? Because I can.
The base premise should be more than enough to get your gears going. Come ready to get weird with it. There's so much potential here, and so much of that potential is incredibly gay and wearing impeccably tailored suits.
2. Your friendly neighborhood circus family
As I mentioned before, Jiang Shuo lucks into the best possible fate that can befall an amnesiac: being picked up by carnies.
Tumblr media
The troupe includes Ventriloquist Man, Really Big Dude, One-Eyed Acrobat, Other Acrobat, Cheerful Fat Girl, Boy Who Looks Like A Kid But Is Actually Played By An Adult So I'm Not Exactly Sure How Old The Character Himself Is Supposed To Be, and Silver Fox Circus Dad, who manages the whole crew. They're a ragtag bunch of performers who all live together in this cute little compound in some very nice slums, and sometimes they open the gates to their lavish compound and put on a circus show for all the common people!
Tumblr media
Now: You know this is not going to be the wokest, most sensitive portrayal of body differences, because of course it isn't. But damn, it's pretty not-bad. The show treats all the circus members as valuable people worthy of affection, whose (occasionally exasperating) quirks are no more or less exhausting than those of the non-circus weirdos in the rest of the supporting cast.
I was half-expecting them to disappear after the first arc, but no! They’re a constant fixture through the show! They’re mostly there to support the show’s more comedic moments, but some of them get wrapped up in more emotional plotlines as well. And every now and then you get to see them actually do their circus shit, which is great.
Tumblr media
I will admit that my fondness for them is related to how much I generally love fictional Freaks — you know, misfits who have banded together because society considers them unacceptably weird, but together their weirdnesses make them strong. When you find them, they’re usually the bad guys (e.g., the Gung-Ho Guns from Trigun, the Scorpion crew from Word of Honor) whose freak statuses make them formidable and occasionally sympathetic antagonists. But not so here! The Psych-Hunter Family Circus is good guy support all the way through to the final episode.
Tumblr media
I know "found family" is a term that suffers from overuse, but that's the best way to describe what's happening here -- really, it's a family that's already found itself even before the show starts, and now they all live together as an unconventional collective of astonishingly flexible people. How did they find one another? Doesn't matter! What matters is that they all love and would do anything for their newest member, and they think it's great when he comes home with his attractive rich friends, who often arrive bringing snacks, which is really the best use for rich people, if you think about it.
3. Two hands, one ring
Now, if you've seen the series already, you know the moment I'm talking about. But if you haven't (and, statistically, you haven't), know that what I mean is the relationship between these two losers.
Tumblr media
Together, Qin Yiheng and Jiang Shuo form the emotional core of the series. They're both drawn to one another because of mysterious circumstances that have started to align. Jiang Shuo's memory is missing, Qin Yiheng's dad has vanished, and all signs point to those absences as having something to do with one another.
Very early in the show, we see Qin Yiheng pull a "come with me if you want to live" on Jiang Shuo, giving the impression that he knows just what's going on in this crazy city. Except, no, he doesn't. Or does he? No, we're pretty sure he doesn't. Or he does, but he's forgotten what he knows, if he ever even knew it in the first place. Anyway, time to tie their hands together and jump into someone else's brain!
Tumblr media
I'd say they're in love, but that's not quite it. Dr. Qin Yiheng, high-class homosexual, is in love with Jiang Shuo to the point where he's about to murder someone (possibly Jiang Shuo himself) out of frustration about it. Jiang Shuo, on the other hand, is much more sticking his fingers in his ears and going LA LA LA YOU CAN'T CATCH ME GAY THOUGHTS while trying get a girlfriend in an effort to pretend that all the shit they get up to together isn't tremendously romantic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That is, until the scene that leads to the which-hand ring guessing game, at which point the burden of their relationship falls on Jiang Shuo (and the Inception parallels get unignorable) for exactly as long as the show will allow it to, before it freaks out and has to add another girl love interest just to make sure all the homos got no'd.
Tumblr media
It's not textually gay, because seriously, have you met Chinese television? But it's pretty gay. Or, rather, I think Liu Dongqin (Qin Yiheng) is playing his character as a dedicated homosexual on purpose, and Hou Minghao (Jiang Shuo) is just ... kinda like that? I mean, everything I’ve seen him in, he gets real dreamy-eyed around strong men who pay close attention to him. Maybe it's just his thing as an actor. I'm not judging.
However, the main cast isn't just the two of them. One of the things that led me to this show was the promise of an OT3. And does it deliver on that promise?
Tumblr media
Well ... sorta.
Qin Yiheng, Jiang Shuo, and Yuan Muqing are a pretty standard MFM not-love-triangle trio of Male Bestie, Main Guy, and Girlfriend (respectively). There's about five seconds at the beginning of the series where it looks like Yuan Muqing might be into Qin Yiheng, but no, that evaporates almost instantly and is never spoken of again -- and with it disappears most of their interactions with one another, period. So it's less an OT3, and more a case of bisexual cutiepie Jiang Shuo getting both a boyfriend and a girlfriend in a world where censorship will only let the latter relationship exist textually.
But damn if these boys aren't made for one another. Sure, there's a level of conscious comical queerbaiting to it -- I mean, there's straight-up an "only one bed" moment, so you know the show isn't stumbling into rainbow territory on accident. No matter how sexual or nonsexual or whatever you read it as, though, their dynamic is the spine that holds the story together. Really, it's almost sad how often the relationships are set parallel to one another, because when you do that, it becomes obvious how intense Jiang Shuo's bond with Qin Yiheng is, and how largely lackluster and comphet most of his canon romance with Yuan Muqing is by comparison.
Tumblr media
Like so.
sidebar: The Girl
Tumblr media
I am not going to go into a full-throated defense of The Girl this time, as I am wont to do, mostly because I think Yuan Muqing is full of potential in concept but so badly executed that there's really no hope for her. Her entire personality is whatever they need her to be in any particular scene. It's just that once in a while, what they need her to be is completely insane -- like, seeing-things-that-aren't-there insane -- and it's so great that it makes me mad! She could have been like this all the time! But noooooo
Tumblr media
As it is, she has a perfunctory canonical romance with Jiang Shuo that's about as endgame as anything is capable of being (see point 5), and it actually gets pretty cute when it finally gets to the point where it's not just awkward obligation! But alas, it only does that so late in the series that it's not even worth it getting invested in it.
She is a creation of the show. She has no novel counterpart. Her entire function in the drama is to un-gay the dynamic between the boys. You can tell that she was initially supposed to have a different role -- to be the muscle of this trio -- but the narrative forgets pretty quickly that she's got that skill set, and she regresses to being The Girl. She makes dumb decisions that forward the plot. She gets put into danger whenever it's convenient. She demands Jiang Shuo do manly things for her because that’s what a girl is supposed to do, I guess? And then there are moments where she’s cool and crazy and it’s awesome! But they never last.
So if you are going to watch this, be prepared for the fact that the female lead is badly written to the point of frustration. I feel her actor is doing the absolutely best with what she's got; the problem is that what she's got is pretty crappy. Still, Muqing gets some pretty charming moments here and there, and I think it's worth hanging onto those and imagining the character she could have been, if the writers had cared just a little more, or even at all.
4. Powerfully surreal worldbuilding
Tumblr media
I'm not even talking about the way people's psyches are structured according to dream logic -- the "normal" waking world is almost equally bizarre. The story takes place in sort of the real world c. 1930, except that a lot of things are off. For example, Japan and England are real locations, but China kinda isn't -- instead, the show takes place in a Shanghai-like city-state run by this moustachioed generalissimo with a faux Latin American dictator aesthetic. The place has its own flag and government and police force (where all the cops have coordinating surnames) and diplomatic relationships with other countries, so it’s clearly its own thing. But what that thing is? What it’s even called? Look, don’t worry about it. Nobody else is worried, so you shouldn’t be either.
You will, at every point in the series, be wondering if the show is trying to telegraph to you that Something's Not Quite Right Here, or if it's just making weird decisions for the sake of artsy weirdness. But don't worry -- there's absolutely no way to tell the difference between the two! Just roll with it.
Tumblr media
There's a weird mix of universe rules happening throughout, where everything is mostly period-appropriate for a while, and then somebody builds a clock with levitating parts, or causes someone else to have very specific memory loss — or, again, swings some coins in front of a person’s face and gains the ability to treat their subconscious like a VR amusement park.
Tumblr media
You can sort of reconstruct the evolution of this weirdness: The book has actual factual ghosts in it. Well, that’s fine for books, but TV isn’t allowed to have ghosts. But TV can have people who imagine ghosts, so long as it’s all in their heads. Okay, but you know jumping bodily into those imaginations isn’t actually a thing real people can do, right? Well, then let’s make it scientific. How can that be scientific? I don't know, it’s psychiatry. I don’t think that’s psychiatry. Look, it could be. Well, it’s definitely not psychiatry in 1930s Shanghai, and that’s the set we’re allowed to film on. Okay, what if it weren’t actually Shanghai? What if it weren’t actually 1930? What if all of this were at best a weird approximation of the period that adheres to no rules except the ones we want?
Once you’ve thought that, the sky’s the limit.
Tumblr media
The show has a very inconsistent grasp on reality, and I am listing that as a pro instead of a con because I am choosing to embrace it as a deliberate choice rather than assume it’s the result of craven incompetence. There's something to be said, though, for how pervasively inconsistent it is. It'd be one thing if there were just a few plot holes here and there (and there are), but this is more along the lines of: We woke up in a mysterious boat and got taken to an island with a giant sea monster skeleton on the shore! What's that all about? Couldn't say! Was it real? Maybe! Moving on!
Let the number of "it's fine! who knows!" comments I've made throughout this rec indicate how much this is the kind of show you just have to roll with. If you are a nitpicker or someone who is troubled by unexplained nonsense, this is not the thing for you. If you love artistic magical realism and high strangeness, you will eat this up with a spoon.
And the lampshade that hangs over all of this worldbuilding is...
5. THE STUPIDEST POSSIBLE ENDING EVER
Tumblr media
Okay, usually I am coy about when I think an ending has problems. I am going to drag this one out front and center: Psych-Hunter has an ending so jaw-droppingly, head-clutchingly stupid that I'm actually listing it as a selling point, because it has to be seen to be believed.
Tumblr media
When I first watched it, I suspected the show ran out of time or money or something and just had to slap together the quickest possible ending ever. But no! This is the ending they meant! If you go back to the rest of the series, you can see that this is what they were (kinda) setting up the whole time! They just set it up so poorly and decided to make the twist hit at such a late point that not only is it complete nonsense, it actually renders moot the entire emotional stakes of the show! Absolutely incredible!
Now, as I've said before in other places, I don't begrudge the actual twist itself. I mean, it's stupid on its face, but I think they could have done something with it — if they'd had it happen halfway through the series, when the characters would have had time to adjust to the new knowledge. Instead, they slap it on at the last possible moment, when there's no time to have any reaction to it. It's just jarring and baffling, and then the whole thing's over.
Tumblr media
I've seen lots of people say "season 2 when???" Season 2 never, friends. There was never going to be a season 2. The only reason you think this was an even remotely acceptable narrative move was that you were assuming that this would be the midpoint, not the end. You're having the same reaction I did, only I can tell this was always meant to be their spectacular dismount.
(To me, it's clear what happened: They J.J. Abramsed themselves into a cool premise for a mystery with no idea how to solve it, hoping they'd figure it out along the way. When they got to the end and still hadn't figured it out, they simply ... opted out of solving it.)
Tumblr media
Now, if you want a normal viewing experience out of this show, watch to the end of the next-to-last episode, close your browser window, and have imagination adventures about how you think all the mysteries should resolve. But you're not going to. You are going to continue on to that last episode, and you are going to realize that nothing I could have said here could possibly have prepared you for this. And somewhere, I am going to feel the urge to cackle wickedly and not even know why. Except I'll know why. We'll both know why.
Want to watch this hot mess?
That baby's an iQiyi exclusive! But you can watch the first episode on YouTube, if you feel like getting a taste that way.
Look, I know I may have spoiled my pitch somewhat with that last selling point. After all, why would you bother watching a series if you know it has a shit ending?
I refute your objection thus: Knowing it has a shit ending changes the whole game, because it removes the feeling of betrayal that hits upon your discovering that the ending isn’t what you wanted. You know that already now, so there can be no betrayal. The ending goes from being an unpleasant surprise to being exactly the unexpected thing that you expected. With that in mind, you can dive right in (ha ha) knowing that you’ll never get the closure you crave, and therefore whatever you make up along the way is perfectly valid.
This is obviously a turnoff if you prefer shows that are like seeing someone start a magic trick, perform it without breaking a sweat, and walk off calmly, leaving you wondering how on earth they accomplished such an amazing thing. Think of this more as someone starting a magic trick, accidentally letting the rabbit fall out of their hat, saying “I meant to do that!” like thirty times, and suddenly vanishing through a trapdoor, leaving you wondering what the trick was even supposed to be in the first place — but they were really good-looking and well-dressed, so at least whatever they were doing was nice to look at while it was happening.
Tumblr media
See? They're having fun.

Costume Cdramas I watched in 2023
This was my first year in Dramaland (both Chinese and Korean). And I have to say that for the most part I have enjoyed my journey in discovering the dramas. This list includes dramas that were released before 2023 as well.
7. Starry Love
It is a story of twin sisters - the gentle and kind Liguang Qing Kui and the smart and cunning Liguang Ye Tan. Qing Kui is betrothed to the heveanly prince and Ye Tan is betrothed to the demon prince however mistakenly they switch places and have to navigate the heavenly realm and demon realm alone relying on their wits. For me the strongest aspect of the drama was the bond between the sisters. It focuses more on the romance of Ye Tan and Xuan Shang and the heavenly realm which I was not much interested in so I skipped through a lot of it. However, I did enjoy the romance of Qing Kui and Chao Feng and the demon realm story which was unfortunately not given enough screen time. As the heavenly realm part of the drama failed to get me invested in both its characters and story, I didn't enjoy this drama a lot.
6. Love you Seven Times
Xiang Yun, a fairy working in the marriage pavilion and Chu Kong, the God of War are accidentally entangled by the red thread of fate and go through love tribulations. I enjoyed their romance and the story was also good. However, I feel it would have turned out better if the drama had more episodes so that the tribulations could be more immersive and impactful. Also, it had less action than I expected from a Xianxia. It was still a fun watch for me.
5. Ancient Love Poetry
This is an epic story of gods and love spanning thousands of years. I will not even attempt to give a primer for its story. The romance, story, action everything is great and it also has really good secondary romances and friendships are also good. The problem I had with this drama is that I enjoyed the first God realm arc a lot however in the second arc I couldn't get fully invested in Houchi and Qing Mu. Also, as a novice to xianxias I had some trouble following the story from the second arc onwards which meant I couldn't enjoy it as much. I still consider it a must watch for xianxia fans but its not for newbies that's for sure.
P.S.- I was devastated with Yue Mi's death so I'm happy that we'll be getting the continuation of her story with Moonlight Mystique.
4. Love between Fairy and Devil
It is a drama about Orchid, a low ranking fairy and Dongfang Qing Cang, the Moon Supreme of the Moon Tribe who are enemies of the immortal fairies, and their forbidden romance. The romance (of both the main and second couple) is really good, the story is compelling and the dynamic between the main and secondary cast is enjoyable. I found the action somewhat lacking. This is a really enjoyable drama especially for those getting into xianxias as the story while not simple, is easy to follow.
3. Romance between Tiger and Rose
In this drama, Chen Xiao Qian, a screenwriter transported into her own story, becoming the Third Princess Chen Qian Qian, a side character. Armed with the knowledge of her own script in which her character is soon to be killed in the third episode by Prince Han Shuo, the male lead, Xiao Qian is determined to stay alive and return to her own world. It is an excellent romcom with great chemistry and fun bickering between the main leads. While the story is straight forward for the most part, it does offer some commentary on gender discrimination and gender norms. It is a really fun and a must watch and has great rewatch value.
2. Story of Kunning Palace
Jiang Xuening is the selfish and ambitious daughter of a court official who ruthlessly uses her charm and cunning for becoming empress. Her schemes lead to the downfall of the royal family and the ruin of both her childhood sweetheart Yan Lin and the once incorruptible Zhang Zhe. Desperate and full of regret, she pleads to exchange her life for the freedom of Zhang Zhe. She awakens in her 18-year old self, who has yet to enter the palace with a chance to do better this time. Even though she vows to steer clear of the palace and its court intrigues, she becomes entangled in them anyways. Apart from Jiang Xue Ning the main cast includes : Xie Wei - JXN's teacher and a ruthless political mastermind, Zhang Zhe - an upright and dedicated officer in the Ministry of Justice, Yan Lin - loyal heir of the Yan family who is in love with JXN, Shen Zhi Yi - the optimistic and resilient princess. It’s so rare for a drama to combine so many great things - a competent and smart female lead, gripping script, top tier looks, chemistry (with the male lead and the secondary leads), steady pace, no childishness, very happy ending. All the actors did an amazing job, in particular Bai Lu who embodied JXN and depicted her thoughts and feelings in a way that the audience could connect with JXN and root for her. The character arcs for the entire main cast were satisfying and done beautifully. I only wished that they showed the past life in one go and with some more scenes for JXN's character growth to be more impactful and that they removed the bright spotlight aimed directly at the camera which took me out of those scenes. This is definitely a must watch for costumed cdrama lovers.
1. Till the end of the moon
Li Susu, an immortal time travels 500 years into the past to prevent the ascension of the Devil god, who goes on to destroy the world in the future. It's a story of love and hate, good and evil, redemption and damnation. The characters are very well conceptualized and depicted beautifully by talented actors, stunning costumes, really good hair and makeup, and great cinematography. The amazing production and set design along with impressive visual effects and CGI really immerse the audience in the world of TTEOTM. Their romance is my ultimate enemies to lovers pairing. It has just the right amount of fighting, messiness, animosity and angst for me. Their visuals, their chemistry, their acting and the story everything was so great. Who else has three epic weddings in one drama? For the most part the story was gripping, progressed at a good pace and conveyed many themes that become apparent on rewatches. While some were disappointed by the ending to me it was clear that they reunite once again and live happily. I am still not able to move on from this couple and drama.
Full Review of Till the end of the moon here.
You can also check out my modern cdrama rankings.
As I'm still a newbie to cdramas, I welcome your recommendations.

What W2 Wrote in 2023
Considering that I'm prrrrrobably not going to manage to put out anything else this year, yeah, let's do a roundup now while I've got a moment. (Note: Only includes fun stuff; no professional shit here.)
January
I can't even remember January. Nothing happens in Januaries.
February
to the beat of your heart, ch. 3 (MDZS) The ongoing adventures of a self-indulgent happy-ending everybody-lives-and-also-bones WangXian canon-divergent AU; a joint project between my wife and me.
It’s Hard to Say “I Do” When You Don’t (@shousetsubangbang) Original story about a guy whose long-time crush asks him to pretend to be his boyfriend at a family wedding. Fake dating ensues.
March
Kintsukuroi (DMBJ) This heihua piece may be the best thing I've written all year? Look, I'm just very proud of how I made it exactly what I wanted it to be.
April
Head (@shousetsubangbang) This was a last-minute fill because the story I wanted to write failed to make itself writeable. Oh well! Still a funny and cute blowjob.
May
to the beat of your heart, ch. 4 (MDZS)
I want to be where all the stupid shit I say sounds so romantic and true (Guardian, WeiLan) Someday I will write a longer and more complicated series of Guardian sex pollen shenanigans, but until then, enjoy this one.
The Rightful Ruler (The Blood of Youth, Lei Wujie/Xiao Se) Still the only English-language story on AO3 for this pairing! Includes maybe the funniest line I wrote all year? You make the call!
The Doctor is In (Psych-Hunter) I know nobody watched Psych-Hunter, and with good reason, but I did, and I think Jiang Shuo should get to spy on the sexy gay doctor if he wants to.
June
A Single Explosion (DMBJ, Pangxi + Xiao Ge) For PingPang Week, with @pangzi in mind. Here's the missing part of Ultimate Note, where Pangzi takes care of Xiao Ge in the hospital.
Dog (The Disguiser, Ah Cheng/Ming Lou) This was actually written before I saw the post going around about how the sexiest thing one guy can be is another's dog. But it's true!
And I am green, and you are wood (DMBJ/Mystic Nine) Another exchange fic, where Liang Wan gets a chance to meet all of Zhang Rishan's old (boy)friends, especially Ba Ye.
Reverse Cowgirl (Not Gay as in Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, Queer as in Dude Ranch) (@shousetsubangbang) Is this the hottest thing I've ever written for SSBB? Might just be. Lesbian ranch hands recruit a city girl.
July
Stay (Beyond Evil, Oh Jihwa/Yu Jaeyi) Because you know what that show needed? Small town lesbians.
Little Spear (The Blood of Youth, Sikong Qianluo/Xiao Se) This show has some cute het, but how it would work in bed is another matter entirely; or, two gay people try to have straight sex.
动须相应 (live-action Hikaru no Go, Yu Liang/Shi Guang) It's hard to get much gayer than the actual show without adding explicit sex, so ... here you go! Post-series boyfriends.
One Quiet Night (Kingdom, Seobi + Lee Chang/Yeongshin) This is the other thing I'm really proud of, because it too came out pretty much exactly the way I envisioned it. A nurse, a prince, and a scrappy piece of shit more or less all fall in love.
August
Hooks in My Sides (Beyond Evil, JWDS) This certainly was the most popular thing I've written all year. It's unfortunately easy to write poor Juwon having a gay meltdown.
A World Made Up of Silver and Copper (@shousetsubangbang) A prince-and-pauper scenario, this time focusing on the prince's adventures in being mistaken for himself. (Hint: they are sexy.)
September
...Funny how the first months of each semester are usually a complete wash for me creatively, huh?
October
to the beat of your heart, ch. 5 (MDZS)
Over My Dead Body (@shousetsubangbang) Nothing like the romance of possessing a corpse only to find he's not actually dead. (Note to DMBJ fans: This should taste like heihua.)
November
A fair amount of November was spent writing something that I just couldn't finish for December's SSBB, once I realized how long it'd have to be and how little free time I had. Maybe next year!
December
Antivenin (@shousetsubangbang) A mean bisexual and an even meaner lesbian team up to distract their gay boss from his terrible crush.
-
And that's it! It always feels kind of weird to see it all gathered in one place, like ... wow, that's not nearly as much as I thought it was. But at the same time, it involves a couple of pieces I feel very good about, so overall I'm going to take the win.
The most fun I had was doing my Small Fandom Summer thing, where I wrote fic for fandoms that had <1000 English-language works on AO3. Maybe I'll do that again next year!
Anyway, if you do wind up reading something, especially the original stuff, thanks. A lot of this can be a very lonely process, especially when there's not much of a built-in audience. Saying you liked something makes me feel a little less like I'm screaming into the void.
Onward to 2024!

Prompt: Jiang Shuo and Qin Yiheng meets Wushang and Dayu. Wushang suspects Jiang Shuo as a suspect and follows him to Qin Yiheng's clinic. Jiang Shuo just wants a stress free day with his favorite doctor and partner. Wushang wants the case solved. Dayu wants Wushang to relax before he loses more hair. Yiheng just wants the peace and quiet back in his clinic again.
Oh, another crossover...how fun
Wushuang was pissed.  He had been staring at his case file for over almost an hour before he let out a low groan and pushed himself to his feet, looking out of his office at his subordinates.
“Dayu!” he called out, making his youngest officer, Wang Dayu, look up at him.
“Yes shifu?” he replied.  Wushuang huffed.
“We’re heading out.  I need air” he declared as he headed out of his office, Dayu frowning as he walked away.
“Um…why do I have to come?” he asked, just as Xu Dong and Qi Ran both gave him a look, causing him to flinch before he quickly pushed himself to his feet and walked over to Wushuang, who was waiting for him, before they both headed out of the department, Wushuang walking through the streets with a dark look on his face while Dayu followed behind, a small frown on his.
            “Shifu…” he started.
“What?” Wushuang snapped, making Dayu flinch before he sighed.
“Why don’t we go to like a café or something?  Get something to eat?  It’s almost lunch and I know you haven’t eaten yet” he stated.  Wushuang shook his head.
“I’ll eat after we catch this bastard” he replied causing Dayu to sigh again.
“Shifu, it’s not good for you to not eat…I know this case is stressing you out, but you need to take care of your health” he argued.  Wushuang shot him a glare over his shoulder.
“I’m fine Dayu” he growled.  Dayu sighed a third time.
“You’re going to get more grey hairs if you take everything too seriously” he stated, just as Wushuang spun around and got in his face.
“Are you saying you’re not taking this seriously?” he growled.  Dayu looked at him with wide eyes before he shook his head.
“No, I am, but I’m not letting my job consume me like you are!” he exclaimed.  Wushuang was quiet before he took a step back and sighed, running a hand through his hair.
“I suppose you’re right…maybe I am taking this too seriously” he murmured.  Dayu smiled slightly.
“There’s nothing wrong with wanting to solve a case…but you can’t ignore other important things, like eating” he declared.  Wushuang looked at him before he huffed softly.
“Alright boy let’s go get something to eat.  My treat” he offered, making Dayu grin and clap delightedly as Wushuang chuckled and shook his head fondly.  Dayu was so cute.
~*~*~*~*~*~
At the café, as Wushuang and Dayu were enjoying their drinks and cute little desserts, Wushuang was stirring his straw absentmindedly when he glanced up to see someone wearing a dark blue hoodie walking past, making his eyes widen.
“It’s him” he breathed, making Dayu frown.
“Who?” he asked.  Wushuang looked at him.
“The guy we’ve been after!” he exclaimed before he shot to his feet and rushed out of the café, Dayu’s eyes widening as he turned to stare after him before he quickly pushed himself to his feet and ran out of the café after him.
“Shifu!” he exclaimed as he chased after Wushuang while Wushuang chased after the man in the hoodie, the man soon entering a nearby clinic, forcing Wushuang to follow in after him and immediately draw his gun.
“Freeze!” he shouted.  At his voice, the man immediately froze, just as another man rushed out from the back and looked at Wushuang with wide eyes.
“What is going on?!” he exclaimed, just as Dayu burst into the clinic and looked at Wushuang with wide eyes.
“Shifu!  Put the gun down!  You don’t even know if it’s him!” he exclaimed, only for Wushuang to huff as he looked at the man in the hoodie.
“Suspect!  Turn around, slowly” he ordered.  The man in the hoodie was quiet before he slowly turned around, his hands raised in surrender, and faced Wushuang and Dayu, Wushuang motioning to him with his gun.
“Lower your hood” he instructed.  The man nodded and slowly reached up, lowering the hood to reveal the face of a young man.
“Have I done something wrong, officer?” he asked.  Wushuang narrowed his eyes at him, just as Dayu stepped forward.
“No, you haven’t.  I apologize for my shifu, really, I don’t know what’s gotten into him” he apologized before he turned and glared at Wushuang.
“Put your gun away!” he barked.  Wushuang huffed and placed his gun back into his holster as the other man crossed his arms.
“What is going on here?  Why have you burst into my clinic like this?” he demanded.  Dayu looked over at him and winced.
“We’re really sorry.  We’ve been searching for a suspect in a series of robberies and he’s always seen wearing a dark blue hoodie, just like your…friend here” he explained, just as the man in the hoodie huffed.
“Well, I can assure you, I haven’t committed any robberies” he assured as the other man huffed.
“Yes, and I would know” he declared, making Wushuang raise an eyebrow.
“And why is that?” he asked.  The man huffed.
“Because we’re partners.  We don’t hide anything from each other” he explained.  Dayu then tilted his head.
“Do you mind me asking your names?” he inquired.
“I’m Dr. Qin Yiheng, this is Jiang Shuo” the man introduced, first motioning to himself then to the man in the hoodie.  Dayu nodded.
“I’m Wang Dayu and this is my shifu, Xu Wushuang” he replied before he bowed.
“We’re so sorry for disturbing you” he apologized before he looked over at Wushuang.
“Aren’t we, Shifu?” he asked.  Wushuang looked back at him before he looked at Jiang Shuo and Qin Yiheng, dipping his head.
“My apologies” he apologized.  Jiang Shuo then crossed his arms.
“Is all you know about the thief is that he wears navy hoodies?” he asked.  Wushuang nodded.
“Pretty much.  Though we also know he tends to frequent this part of town” he explained.  Jiang Shuo hummed.
“Well, if someone thought it was me, I wouldn’t be surprised; I’m always here to visit Qin Er” he stated as Dayu looked at Qin Yiheng.
“Dr. Qin, have you happened to notice anything suspicious?  Since you do have a store-front property” he asked.  Qin Yiheng hummed before he shook his head.
“I haven’t really noticed anything.  But I tell you what…how about if I see something, I give you a call?” he offered.  Dayu grinned and nodded.
“That would be great, thank you” he thanked before he reached into his pocket and pulled out a business card, handing it to him.
“Please call that number if you happen to hear or see something” he instructed as Wushuang pointed to Jiang Shuo.
“And in the meantime, maybe you shouldn’t wear your hoodies.  You know, just until the suspect is caught” he stated.  Jiang Shuo sighed and nodded.
“Sure, I guess” he agreed, just as Qin Yiheng rolled his eyes.
“Oh, so when the cop who pointed his gun at you tells you to not wear your hoodie you listen but when I, your lover, tell you to do it, you whine and complain!” he exclaimed.  Jiang Shuo smiled.
“But you like it when I whine and complain, Qin Er” he teased, making Qin Yiheng roll his eyes and shake his head again as Dayu grinned.
“Thank you.  And we’re so sorry again” he apologized before he reached out and grabbed Wushuang’s arm, dragging him out of the clinic as Jiang Shuo and Qin Yiheng watched before Qin Yiheng looked down at the card in his hand.
“Are you sure you haven’t done anything?” he asked, glancing up at Jiang Shuo.  Jiang Shuo raised his hands in surrender.
“I haven’t!  I swear!” he exclaimed.  Qin Yiheng hummed, causing Jiang Shuo to raise an eyebrow.
“What is it?” he asked.  Qin Yiheng glanced over at him before he shook his head.
“Nothing…just thinking” he replied before he looked at him.
“Liu Zhi hasn’t gotten out, has he?” he asked.  Jiang Shuo’s eyes widened.
“No!  Of course he hasn’t!” he exclaimed before he paused.
“At least…I don’t think he has” he murmured before he looked at Qin Yiheng with wide eyes.
“Qin Er—” he started when Qin Yiheng shook his head.
“He hasn’t.  I was just asking.  Don’t worry.  I know he hasn’t” he assured.  Jiang Shuo nodded before he shook his head.
“Who’s been committing all of these robberies?” he asked.  Qin Yiheng shook his head.
“I don’t know…guess we’ll have to wait and find out” he replied.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Meanwhile, as they headed back to the police station, Dayu glared at Wushuang.
“Shifu!  You cannot just go around accusing people of being a suspect when we don’t even have any evidence!  We literally have nothing!  You should know better!” he exclaimed.  Wushuang huffed.
“He was wearing the hoodie; I thought it was him” he grumbled.
“That’s circumstantial at best!  If I pulled something like what you just pulled, you’d have my ass!  You know better!” Dayu scolded.  Wushuang glanced over at him before he sighed and nodded.
“You’re right, I’m sorry.  I should have thought before I ran after him…it won’t happen again” he promised.  Dayu huffed.
“It better not” he grumbled before he took him by the arm.
“Come on, I’m hungry.  Let’s go eat something” he declared.
~*~*~*~*~*~
A few days later, as Dayu was working on paperwork, his phone suddenly rang, making him look at it in surprise before he reached out and picked up the receiver, placing it to his ear.
            “Hello?” he answered.
            “Wang Dayu?” a voice inquired.
            “Speaking” Dayu replied.
“Dayu, this is Dr. Qin Yiheng.  We met a few days ago” Qin Yiheng stated, making Dayu’s eyes widen.
“Oh, Dr. Qin!  Yes, how can I help you?” he asked.
“Are you and Officer Xu busy?  We have someone we’d like for you to pick up” Qin Yiheng declared.  Dayu raised an eyebrow before he nodded.
“Sure, we’ll be right down” he assured before he hung up and pushed himself to his feet, heading to Wushuang’s office.
“Shifu” he called out, making Wushuang look up at him.
            “Hmm?” he replied.
“Dr. Qin just called and asked if we could come down to his clinic.  Says he’s got a person there he’d like for us to pick up” Dayu explained.  Wushuang frowned before he pushed himself to his feet and walked over to him, looking him in the eyes.
“Well what are we waiting for?  Let’s go!” he exclaimed.  Dayu smiled and nodded before he and Wushuang headed out of the department, heading to Qin Yiheng’s clinic.
~*~*~*~*~*~
When they arrived at the clinic, they both headed inside to see Jiang Shuo and Qin Yiheng standing on either side of a man on his knees, the man dressed in a navy hoodie.
“What’s this?” Wushuang inquired.  Qin Yiheng looked at him before he motioned to the man in the hoodie.
“Your thief” he replied as Jiang Shuo grinned.
“He tried to steal from my Qin Er and I couldn’t have that happen so…ta da!” he exclaimed.  Both Dayu and Wushuang looked at them in surprise before Wushuang hummed and stepped forward, grabbing the man by the arm before he yanked him to his feet.
“We’ll follow up and make sure that he’s actually the thief we’ve been looked for but…thanks” he thanked before he dragged the man out of the clinic, Dayu watching them leave before he looked at Jiang Shuo and Qin Yiheng, smiling brightly.
“Thanks for your help.  Feel free to call if you have any other problems” he insisted before he turned and headed out of the clinic after Wushuang, Jiang Shuo and Qin Yiheng watching them leave before Jiang Shuo looked over at Qin Yiheng and smiled.
“Finally, some peace and quiet, huh?” he asked.  Qin Yiheng hummed.
“Finally” he agreed, just as Jiang Shuo smiled and walked over to him, wrapping an arm around him before he rested his chin on his shoulder.
“Though nothing’s really ever “peaceful” or “quiet” when I’m around, right Qin Er?” he asked.  Qin Yiheng huffed.
“Yes, because you’re a menace” he replied.  Jiang Shuo grinned.
“But I’m your menace” he remined, causing Qin Yiheng to huff softly before he looked over at him, his eyes full of fondness.
            “Yes…yes, you are” he agreed.

Ravages chatting #588.3 (Xu Lin had the one piece to the great peace all along)
Fan Shuo: As brilliant as Xu Lin might have been, the world belongs to the eight geniuses now. His time has passed. Too bad I'm not refined enough to understand why it (Xu Lin's teaching) was considered the most evil method of war. Jiang Wei?: My mother said it's like a military manual for sects, and the seized version was my father's copy. The original version isn't lost, since it was written on cloth like sacred scripture, and it had commentary too.
