Imagine: Your Dad, Jay Pritchett, Finally Accepting You, His Nonbinary Child
MASTERLIST | AO3 | KO-FI
Based on/a follow-up to:  Being the Nonbinary (Second) Youngest Pritchett Sibling
Relationship(s): Jay Pritchett x nonbinary!reader (familial)
Warnings: Past/referenced lack of acceptance/ trans/enbyphobia. Also, reader is implied to be alloromantic or otherwise interested in romantic relationships. (Let me know if I need to add any)
(A/N: This is definitely me projecting, as someone who knows that my dad will not even try to accept/understand my own identity.)
Tumblr media
You were at yet another of one of your family’s gatherings, this time to celebrate one of Mitch’s especially successful cases. It was nice, since you’d recently broken up with the person you’d been seeing because it was obvious that they couldn’t accept your identity.
Of course, the night wasn’t without the typical drama, secrecy and misunderstanding, one amongst the kids (who were obviously trying to conceal something), one between Phil and Claire (who’d had some disagreement that they were making vague passive-aggressive comments about to one another), and something between Jay, Gloria, Mitch and Cam.
Strangely, you hadn’t fit yourself specifically into any of these dramas this time around, since Mitch had requested for you to entertain Lily for a while, so you ended up sitting on the couch beside your niece, watching a kids’ cartoon that you shouldn’t have found yourself so invested in. There were occasional interruptions from Cam and Gloria, who were promptly dragged away by Mitchell- rather suspiciously- before they could say anything of note to you. Though, you were too engrossed in whatever TV show you were watching to care.
That was until your dad approached you.
“Uh, hey, kiddo, mind if we talk in the kitchen?” Jay said as casually as he could, but you knew your dad well-enough to know that something was amiss.
“Sure,” you replied with a shrug. You turned to your youngest niece. “Bring me up to speed when I come back, okay, Lily?”
It was clear that she hadn’t been watching the TV, and that she was playing Subway Surfers on your phone. Still, she heard you, and rolled her eyes.
You followed your dad to his kitchen, where Gloria, Mitch and Cam had clearly been anticipating your arrival.
“Oh God, what is this?” you questioned.
“We’ll give you two some privacy,” Mitchell said, scratching his neck.
When Cam and Gloria made no sign of leaving, Mitchell and Jay eyed them sternly in a way that came naturally to Pritchetts, and the duo followed him with a sigh. You furrowed your brows, then focused your attention on your dad for a moment. Stiffly, you folded your arms and shifted on your feet.
“So...” you said, drawing out the ‘o’ and averting your gaze. “What did you wanna talk about? I take it it’s not, like, the weather or something.”
“Uh, no, I... I just wanted to see how you were holding up, after this whole breakup thing,” Jay responded, an awkward sincerity in his voice.
You bit your lip and nodded slowly.
“I guess I’m doing okay, thanks,” you shrugged, forcing a faint smile.
“You know, I know our part of the family’s not all that good with the whole ‘feelings’ thing,” Jay sighed. "But you can talk to me, or Mitchell, or Cam, or anyone, and we’ll all listen. We all care about you, kid.”
“Did Mitch tell you why we broke up?”
“Yeah,” Jay nodded. “Said they couldn’t accept you for... who you are, so you didn’t have any other choice.”
You huffed.
“That’s how it went,” you confirmed. You paused for a moment, then bit your lip once again. The both of you knew you were holding back tears. “It just sucks, y’know? Feeling like someone cares about you in spite of who you really are, and you can tell that they’re just placating you, and they don’t actually see you for who you are, and that they’d prefer you if you were... normal.”
As your dad watched you speak, watched as you became closer to breaking down right in front of him, he couldn’t deny the sinking feeling in his chest.
He sighed.
“Look, kid, I’ve been talkin’ with your brother... and it’s made me realise that I’m doing the same thing as your ex, and the thought of you cutting me outta your life like them scares the hell outta me,” Jay explained. “So, I want you to know... I fully support who you are and anything you do because of that. All I want for you is to be happy.”
A trembling smile tugged at your lips, and it was difficult to hold back the tears any longer. You nodded.
“Thanks, dad.”
He returned your nod.
After a moment of hesitation, you stepped forward and hugged your dad awkwardly. You only intended for it to be brief- no more than a few seconds- but, much to your surprise, he returned your embrace. It was tight and filled with genuine warmth, unlike any time you’d hugged him before. It was almost enough to melt away the vague tension of the past years, and for the first time in a long time, you felt a complete sense of relief. Similarly, with the terrifying prospect of losing you now unlikely, Jay was grateful to have you, his kid, in his arms.

Could I request a Luke Dunphy x reader fic? Something cute and simple like they have been together for a while and while at a family barbecue luke and her are talking about the future (thinking they are alone) and the rest of the family hears? Just a whole lot of fluff please 🤧
Future | Luke Dunphy | Modern Family
Tumblr media
“So let me get this right…” Luke said, bumping his shoulder into yours. “You want two - no three - dogs and a white picket fence?”
“Don’t forget the wildflowers in the front yard.”
He laughed, glancing over to his family from the porch. “Oh how could I forget. Can you ever forgive me?"
She hummed. "I'll think about it."
----
"They're good together." Clair said, leaning over to whisper to Mitchell. "I remember being like that with Phil."
"Was this before or after you got pregnant with Hayley?" He snarked back.
"Doesn't matter. What matters is that he's happy - and she's happy - therefore we should be happy for them."
Mitchell grabbed his glass and finished it off. "You think that they will last?"
"They better," Jay butted in, "If they last more than a year, I beat Gloria out in our bet."
Claire turned to him. "You bet on Luke's relationship, dad! How could you?"
He laughed, turning away before he looked back. "Phil put five bucks on them getting married.

Musicals Aren't Supposed to Have Encores | Luke Dunphy x fem!reader
Based on season 4 episode 14 of Modern Family: "A Slight at the Opera."
Warnings: None? Two eighth-graders kiss a few times... does that need a warning?
Word count: 2,052
Summary: Luke and Y/n step up to new roles in "The Phantom of the Opera" performance their middle school is presenting. Cam doesn't know what to do when the audience calls for an encore at the end of the show.
A.N.: Notes vs notes became a very hard thing to keep track of while writing this. Because I had notes, as in musical notes that you sing or play. And notes, as in theatre notes, directions as to what to do, and ideas of what needs to change. The struggle of being both a music kid and a theatre kid is real.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"What do you mean Genevieve is sick?" Cam exclaimed to the girl's mother over the phone, "First our Phantom falls ill, and now our Christine? Does the world think our theater department is filled with actors?... No, of course, I'm sorry. I hope she feels better soon."
Theatre never goes exactly as planned. You're bound to have bumps along the way. Cam was prepared for that. He had backup props and backup lavaliers. What he hadn't prepared for was for both his Phantom and his Christine to get sick.
Having already found and lost hope in having Luke play the Phantom, Cam felt he was running low on ideas and patience. So, he turned to his assistant director/stage manager: Y/n.
"Well, Y/n. What do you think?" Cam asked.
"About which?" she replied, "We've got a couple problems right now."
"Either. Any. All. I don't know," he was obviously at the end of his wits.
"I think that you should show Manny the video you have of Luke so that he can see what you want him to be doing," she offered.
"Alright," Cam agreed, calling Manny over to watch the recording, "And what about Christine? I hate to say it, but Genevieve was the only soprano we had who could--"
"Luke has to do it," Manny cut in, before rushing off to undo the damage he had done.
"Well, that solves that problem," Y/n said cheerfully.
"I doubt any of them even know all the words, let alone the right notes, the right timing..." Cam trailed off, "Luke could you run 'The Phantom of the Opera,' please?"
"The whole show?" Luke asked, surprised.
"No, the song," Cam clarified with an exasperated shake of his head that looked much more like Mitchell's mannerisms than his own.
"Uh, sure, yeah. I don't know my cue without Christine's part, though."
"Y/n, could you sing Christine's parts until I figure out a replacement?" Cam requested turning to her.
"Well, I don't normally... but I guess I could... I do know the words, and the notes, and the timing and blocking... Sure." She replied.
The two walked over to the piano to practice. Y/n hadn't gotten more than four lines in when the whole theater was staring at her. Cam realized that maybe his Christine had been hiding in plain sight just like his Phantom. Her vibrato was perfect. Her voice paired perfectly with Luke's. Y/n and Luke looked up shocked when the entire ensemble came in perfectly on cue to find that Cam was conducting them like a choir. Y/n smiled at Luke, as they turned so the entire cast was rehearsing together. When they got to the part where Christine climbs up in notes, everyone's jaws hung open. Y/n herself was a tad surprised at how cleanly the notes came from her chest. Sure she loved to sing. Sure she had practiced this entire musical what felt like a million times. But to hear it in a theater. To hear how creepy her friend Luke could sound, perfectly portraying the Phantom. To hear the song all around her. It felt unreal. Especially when she got to the E6. She knew that for Genevieve they had lowered it, but she also knew that she could hit it. So, she ditched the note Cam had given the original Christine and chose instead to follow the regular notes of the song.
"Y/n," Cam started once the song was over, "You need to play Christine. Your voice is perfect. You know all the directions I gave. You understand what I'm trying to do with this show. Please, we need you as Christine."
"Okay, okay," she replied quickly.
They were very lucky that the costumes, which had been brought in for different actors, fit Y/n and Luke almost perfectly. Everything after casting Y/n had been rushed chaos. She had called her mom to bring her a pair of white heels since the original shoes didn't fit. But she neglected to tell her mom why she needed the shoes, simply insisting that the show sounded amazing and her family just had to come. Standing backstage, Y/n and Luke were talking while she used safety pins to shorten his cape. They didn't exactly have a replacement stage manager after all and she had offered to continue with both roles.
"You look really pretty," Luke commented as she stood up and handed him his pinned cloak.
"Thank you," she replied, a slight blush creeping onto her cheeks, "you should wear suits more often, you look quite dashing. I'd lose the mask though, your face is too cute to be covered."
Now it was Luke's turn to blush. He knew that Y/n was good at flustering people, of course he did, they had been best friends for years and she was his long-time crush, but he had never found himself on the receiving end of her flattery.
"Hey!" She called out quietly to one of their castmates, "That's not where that prop goes. Go put it on the prop table where it belongs."
"You know we're supposed to kiss, right?" Luke asked when Y/n turned back to him.
"Yes," she answered, "Poor Genevieve and Marcus, do you think that's why they're both sick? They had to kiss so much in rehearsal."
"Oh yeah, poor things, they had to kiss someone over and over again," he said, sarcasm dripping off every word.
"Careful," Y/n chided, "I'll kiss you over and over again."
"Like that's a threat," Luke snarked, before remembering who he was talking to, the confidence leaving him at once, "--I mean, we should probably practice at least once. Just, so we're on the same page. Know what to expect."
"Hmm, probably," she said slowly, before grabbing his hand and pulling him toward her.
Y/n kissed him gently, sweetly. And then it was over, and Luke decided he would do whatever it took to be able to kiss her again.
"Alright," Cam called, all the actors gathering around, "Uh... Luke, Y/n if I could talk to you for a moment after we're done. Alright, everyone, this is going to be great, there's nothing more we can do at this point. I know we've had a few hiccups, but I think we've come out stronger. So, good luck. Just, don't think about the audience. Be loose, speak clearly and enunciate, and have fun. Break a leg!"
When he had dismissed everyone else, Y/n and Luke walked over to Cam.
"Ah, good," he began, "I just want you to know how proud I am of you. And I wanted to make sure you didn't have any questions. Last minute confusions?"
"Nope," Luke said.
"None," Y/n confirmed.
"Good, good. And the kiss, I know we didn't talk about it. You're both alright with it?"
"Yep."
"Yes. We made sure to go over that with each other. We're on the same page. We know what to expect," she clarified, smiling at Cam, before looking at Luke with what he swore was a smirk.
"Wonderful. Then I'll go introduce our show, and we will begin," Cam said before leaving with a flourish.
The show was going perfectly. The audience was already captivated and they were only five songs in. When the iconic opening notes to "The Phantom of the Opera" began to play Y/n could feel people shift in their seats. She felt the pressure to perform the song well but didn't find herself nervous. One glance at Luke told her he felt the same way. Hearing how their voices melded together perfectly, Y/n was filled with giddy happiness. She couldn't have really explained it, but it pushed her further. When she began her climbing notes they were even stronger than they had been earlier.
They had taken an intermission between the two acts, and Y/n was enjoying some lemon honey tea, while a speaker next to her played "Something to Believe In" from Newsies. Luke was sitting in a makeup chair, across from her with his own cup, fidgeting as prosthetics were being applied to his face. In between taking sips of tea, the two were softly singing along to their favorite musical number, causing the poor kid trying to do Luke's makeup to continuously snap at him for moving his head.
"And if I'm gone tomorrow"
"What was ours still will be"
"I have something to believe in"
"Now that I know you believed in me."
Out in the audience, Haley had arrived during intermission and was now entering the theater with everyone else.
"I left the house as soon as I got your text," Haley exclaimed to Alex, "I can't believe Luke is playing the lead!"
Backstage, Cam called quietly: "Curtain's up again in five! You're doing great, y'all!"
Finally, they were reaching the end of the play. Alex was clinging to Haley's arm, practically holding her breath. By that point she had all but forgotten that her brother was playing the Phantom, having become deeply invested in the story. Not until Christine was standing, turning the Phantom to face her, did Haley lean over to Alex to whisper: "Can you believe that's Luke?"
Then, Christine kissed him.
"Oh my gosh," Alex exclaimed lightly to her sister, "They like each other."
"Who?" Haley replayed, "The Phantom and what's-her-name?"
"No, Luke and Y/n."
"Oh, yeah, duh. They have for years."
Then, Christine was kissing him again.
The curtain came down and then raised again, leaving the cast to bow. They led the audience in applause to the sound crew, the lighting crew, the musicians, and then Cam who joined them on stage. The curtain went down again, but the audience's applause didn't die down with it, rather it picked up. A few parents in the audience called for an encore, and soon the entire theater joined in.
"We don't have an encore," Cam quickly whispered to the cast, "Musicals aren't supposed to have encores. But they seem to really want one, does anyone have anything?"
"We do," Luke said, looking at the girl next to him.
"We do?" Y/n questioned, her eyebrows raised.
"Sure, 'Something to Believe In,'" he told her, before turning to Cam, "From Newsies."
"Are you sure?"
"We know the whole thing by heart," Y/n assured him.
Cam walked out in front of the curtain.
"Well, ladies and gentlefolk. You asked for an encore, so an encore you will receive," as Cam spoke, Manny ran to tell the pianist what the encore would be.
Cam continued, "But first, I'd like to thank my terrific cast for getting over humongous hurdles, especially my incredible leads, who only stepped into their roles today, having previously not been a part of the cast, but the crew. And who, just now, pulled an extra song out of their hats, like theatre magicians,"
He looked at the pianist asking, "We're ready?"
The pianist confirmed he was, indeed, ready.
"This is 'Something to Believe In' from Newsies," Cam said with a smile, before walking off stage.
The curtain had risen again, revealing that the mobile set pieces had been removed. There stood Luke and Y/n, the former of which had changed slightly: he had ditched his suit jacket, rolled up his sleeves, messed up his hair, and was standing so the audience could only see the normal side of his face. Their plan was to run the scene from first line to exit, and that's exactly what they did.
Sitting in the audience, Alex and Haley quietly squealed to each other. For years, they had been having monthly movie nights, just Haley, Alex, Luke, and Y/n. And each month, they watched one of four movies. Newsies being one of those movies. They had often joked that Y/n was like Katherine, joining another family. And each time "Something to Believe In" would start, someone would say it must be one of the best love songs ever, and the rest of the kids would agree.
Boy, did the two actors have fun with it. The nudging, the kiss. The playful looks turned to silent flirting. Everything they wanted to do in their own lives, and the song required all of it. When the curtain lowered for the final time, the audience erupted in cheers. Backstage, Cam ran to Y/n and Luke, engulfing them in a hug only a proud director/uncle could give.

Thinking about:
Joel and Reader having a similar relationship to Jay and Gloria Pritchett from Modern Family HC <3
No outbreak au! Joel miller x Fem!Reader
(I recommend you watch Jay and Gloria clips on YouTube <3)
Disclaimer: My fics are inclusive and open to any size and any ethnicity + race reader 💕
————
• Joel Miller is at peace with his life.
• He recently has turned 56, Sarah is attending her dream college, Tommy finally moved out to live with his wife, Maria, and Joel’s contracting business has been doing very well which makes him no longer stress about paying bills on time and worrying about being able to afford Sarah’s college.
• A relationship was not something he was trying to look for, he didn’t see why he had to at his age.
• He has already had his fair share of girlfriends, his last and longest lasting one ending in a messy divorce.
• Her name was Diane. She caused Joel nothing but stress and negative energy, and showed clear signs of mental illness.
• The day that she moved out of the house, Sarah came home from college to visit and she expressed to her dad that the house no longer felt suffocating and negative.
• She tried to get him to open up, but Joel was very closed off when it came to his feelings, and he didn’t want to put all of his emotions on his baby girl.
• Even though Joel had everything, he still felt grumpy due to his older age stopping him from being able to bend down for long periods of time at work like he used to, and having to shamefully ask his young colleagues to complete those jobs, and also that very crazy ex-wife of his that burnt him out.
• He thought that was the end to his love life until he met you.
• It was mid July on a hot Texas day, Joel and Tommy decided to meet up at a small 50s themed Diner to catch up.
• While the brothers were chatting and eating their greasy meals, Tommy doing most of the talking, Joel heard a sweet, soft voice from behind him,
“What can I get y’all today?” A soft voice spoke. Joel’s head perched up and he began looking around, the voice dragging him in like a siren calling out to a pirate at sea,
“The specials today are our strawberry cola float and cheese fries” His eyes finally landed on you.
• There stood you, a pretty, young waitress in a white and pink uniform, a smile beaming on your sweaty, glowing face.
• Joel was hypnotized by your beauty.
• He watched as you laughed at something the old couple said, your head thrown back and your hair swaying from side to side in almost slow motion.
• He could feel his face heat up and his mouth no longer chewing the few fries he shoved in seconds ago,
“Earth to Joel?” He broke out of his trance and turned around to look at his little brother,
“Who were you lookin’ at?” Joel shook his head and went back to chewing,
“Nobody. So how’s Maria?” Tommy smirked and squinted his eyes,
“I just said how she was that whole time you were ogling over that young waitress” Tommy laughed,
“I ain’t lookin’ at anybody, alright?” The oldest brother snapped, rubbing his beard. Tommy laughed even louder and leaned back in the booth,
“She is quite a doll, ain’t she? I’d ask her out” Joel scoffed and kicked his brother under the table,
“Calm down, brother. Your married for fuck sake” He responded, giving him a serious look.
Tommy rolled his eyes and became defensive,
“Y-Yeah, I know! I was just sayin’!” He shoved a handle of fries in his mouth to shut himself up.
Joel chuckled sarcastically at his brother,
“Yeah. Whatever ya say”
• Anytime you passed by their booth, Joel would un-knowingly straighten his posture and suck in his stomach and clear his throat, giving you an awkward nod and grin. And it made Tommy laugh every time.
• To put an end to his big brother’s suffering, the younger brother politely called out to you and signalled for a refill on their coffees.
• You happily did so, and to Joel’s surprise, you began sparking up a conversation with him.
• When Joel noticed your finger twirling in your hair and your laugh at his lame jokes, it gave him the confidence to ask you out.
• He felt like a young man, again.
• He swooped you off your feet.
• From then on, you guys fell in love and began a relationship.
• Joel proposed to you only five months later.
• Anybody would’ve told you both that you were moving too fast, and most importantly, that you were both very different people.
• Joel was a closed off, rugged 56 year old man, and you were an expressive, confident, hot-headed 27 year old woman.
• In a way, you balanced each other out perfectly.
• You would push Joel out of his comfort zone to be more honest with his feelings and open up, and Joel would show you how to be more tame and not immediately become defensive or sensitive about things.
• Your wedding was small but fancy, and Sarah had helped you plan it and went shopping with you a lot, using those times as a way to bond with you since she was not sure how to feel at first with her old father marrying a very much younger woman so quickly.
• After spending time with you, she became close to you and knew you were going to love and cherish her Daddy.
• Also, she thought it was impressive that you got him to start showing emotions and slowly open up, talking about his feelings and becoming less stubborn.
• Now, it took a while for Joel to get used to you, as in the way to get used to how you treated life, your friends, your family, and how you were a magnet to hot men.
• He always had a very small family and a quiet life. It was always him, Tommy and Sarah.
• Holidays were never a big deal, always just ordering Chinese food and watching old Christmas movies with Sarah and Tommy.
• So, when you moved in and quit your job to be a stay at home wife (very much Joel’s idea), he was surprised as to how much serious you took holidays,
“Woah, woah! What’s all this?” Joel asked, watching you put up colourful Christmas lights. He looked around and saw little snowmen statues and Christmas themed pillows laid out on the leather sofa,
“It’s Christmas, Joel! It’s the time of the year where you spend time with you family and decorate and dance with your loved ones and cook turkey!” He placed a hand on his hip and lifted an eyebrow,
“Ain’t this a little much? I usually just get a fake tree and decorate it” You rolled your eyes and climb down the small ladder,
“A little much? This isn’t even half of it! When I was a little girl, my mommy and daddy would throw a huge Christmas Eve party that had games and dancing and a bunch of home made food. Then, after twelve a.m, we’d set off fireworks!” Joel rubbed his forehead and flopped down on the couch,
“I usually just order Chinese and watch sappy Christmas movies all night” You sighed and tossed a Santa plushy at him,
“Listen, I quit my job and left my apartment to come and live with you and take care of the house while you are away at work 24/7. The most you can do is include how I celebrate Christmas. Okay?” He nodded and stared down at the Santa in his hands,
“Okay?” You repeated, placing your hands on your hips and giving him that ‘you better verbally say something’ look,
“Yeah, yeah, okay” You grinned and placed a kiss on his cheek,
“Good” You started waking down the hall, the sound of your expensive heels echoing,
“and, we are going out with Sarah tonight and cutting down a real tree!” You yelled out. Joel groaned but couldn’t help crack a smile,
“Yes, m’am”
• When it came to your family and friends, Joel was very surprised and not very ecstatic when you wanted them to visit for a few days during the summer.
• When you both arrived at the airport to pick them up, Joel wanted to hit his head against a brick wall when he saw a group consisting of eleven people walking down the escalators yelling your name excitedly,
“Ya never told me how big your family was” He mumbled into your ear, keeping a fake smile on his face. You turned around and slapped him in the stomach. He grunted and rubbed the spot,
“Quit that complaining! They haven’t seen me in forever” You whispered harshly, plastering a fake smile as well while keeping eye contact with your family,
“I cant wait to spend a week with you, muffin!” Your grandma squealed, pulling you into a tight hug. Joel’s eyes practically bulged out of his head,
“A week?!”
• It was no lie that you were a gorgeous woman. Men always did a double take when you passed by, and women found them selves staring you down with envy.
• So, when you decided to throw a barbecue for the Fourth of July for the neighbourhood, people all showed up, curious as to how Joel’s young, new wife was gonna be able to plan a barbecue on her own.
• Most people were probably gonna show up, the intimidating older women to critic your decorations, food, and your so called ‘inappropriate clothing’ that they had been gossiping about since you moved in with Joel and Sarah,
“Hm, really outdid yourself, y/n. Wasn’t expecting…this” Edith, an older woman who has been living on the same street as Joel for many years, said passive aggressively.
With your head held high and a confident smile on your face, you nodded and rubbed her shoulder,
“Aw! Thanks, Edith. Wish I could say the same for your barbecues” Edith stared at you with her mouth agape.
Maria, who was sipping wine and watching the scene unfold, covered her mouth in hopes to hide the cackle that was about to escape her mouth. She gave you a thumbs up and mouthed “solid”
• The men there, married or not, found any chance to try and talk to you, surrounding you like you were a celebrity,
“Beautiful dress, y/n” Johnny, a friend of Tommy’s said, slyly rubbing a hand on your waist. You smiled and stepped back to show it off to everyone, oblivious to the men’s flirting,
“Thanks! Joel bought me it!” The men grumbled, and Johnny pursed his lips,
“Right, your with Joel”
• It didn’t stop at Tommy and Maria’s son’s 5th birthday.
• Kids were screaming and running around, which meant that there were their fathers around as well.
• The bouncy house was empty, and you were two glasses deep into wine, so you took your heels off and crawled in to jump around while the kids were out to go have lunch.
• The fathers gathered around the bouncy house and were watching you with smirks, and Joel came running to push past the men to see who they were watching,
“Jesus Christ” Joel grumbled, watching as you jumped around, your revealing dress showing your “greatest assets” bouncing up and down,
“Joel, look! I’m jumping so high!” You screeched, a big smile on your face, innocent to the men who were undressing you with their eyes,
“Yeah, I see that! Now get out” He looked around and saw all the men with their smug, smirking faces,
“Really, guys?! Your family men. Come on, now. Walk away!” Joel yelled, shaking his head and pointing them to the snack table. The men all scoffed and grumbled, reluctantly turning away from the sight of you.
• Tommy was no better.
• He was so obvious with his flirting, it made Maria and Joel side eye each other every time,
“Uncle Tommy and Maria are here!” Sarah called from the front door. You squealed in happiness, taking the turkey out from the stove with a little dance. Joel chuckled and placed a kiss on your cheek,
“We saw them this morning at the grocery store, sweetheart” You rolled your eyes and playfully slapped his shoulder,
“So? It was only for a couple of minutes! C’mon, let’s go say hi”
You gave Maria a hug and kiss on the cheek, as well as her adorable son. You passed to Tommy and did the same, and said,
“Two times today, huh?” You joked, referring to the earlier surprised meet up at the store. Tommy raised an eyebrow and confusingly grinned,
“Oh, okay!” He went to give you another hug and kiss on the cheek, but you had already turned around to go back to the kitchen, and Maria grabbed his arm and yanked him back,
“She meant we saw them two times today, Tommy” she warned, glaring at him.
• Yeah, you were a lot.
• But, Joel still loves you.
• He loves your crazy big family, your revealing outfits, your confidence, your expressiveness, your need to help and care for everyone around you, and how amazing you were with his baby girl, Sarah, providing her with the motherly love she was missing out on.
• The thing he loved the most was how you were with him.
• You were changing him in a good way, You were teaching him to open up, to do things out of his comfort zone, not always make everything be his way or the highway, and you put him in his place and called him out when necessary.
• You take care of him, he takes care of you.
• Joel sat on his front porch, plucking away at his guitar, occasionally sipping his beer and watching the sunset,
“It can’t get any better than this” He said to himself in his head, sighing contently, strumming away at his six-string,
“Joel, baby! Come join me upstairs! I’m wearing your favourite matching set…” You called from the open window, a seductive and playful tone in your voice.
Joel grinned then smirked, running a hand across his greying beard,
“It definitely can get better this”

Alex exits the room, and their comments are idiotic per usual. You glance back at the two. "You're both idiots."
Manny nearly gasps, drawing his inner Gloria energy. "I'm offended you would put me in the same category as your boyfriend."
You nearly roll your eyes. "Did either of you notice Joe was in the car with us or outside the door messing with one of your plants?"
Manny and Luke turn to one another, the latter shrugs.
"No, right? That's why Alex was saying those things, not because she's sending mixed signals, it's because your little brother slash young uncle is adorable." You smile, holding your hand out for him. "Come on, baby Joe."
You turn back towards the two once you get the youngin in your arms. "Now, if you'll excuse me, someone needs to clean himself up before his mama comes up here and sees the dirt."
Your boyfriend pouts. "Why does he get your attention?"
You glance back at Luke, "get a baby and maybe you'll be cute."
He smirks, taking a step towards you. "Oh my- Luke no. I'm not going to have a baby with you."
You two turn and see everyone's attention on your conversation. "Oh, great."
"It's not like I made everyone look at us."
You narrow your eyes at him.
"Ay, what happened to Joe?" Gloria asks, seeing how dirty her son is.
"He decided to take a deep dive into one of the plants upstairs. So, I was going to see what I could clean up before determining if he needs a bath yet or not."
"That's so nice of you, thank you."
"Mr. Dunphy?"
"How many times have I told you to call me, Phil?"
"When I'm not mad at your son, we'll talk."
"But your never not mad at him."
You thin your lips, raise your brows, and tilt your head as if to say I told you so.
He sighs, looking up at his son. "Luke?"
The teen avoids making eye contact with anyone.
"He needs to go out and do something with himself."
"Ah, I got it. He needs to practice his magic."
An evil smirk dances across your lips. "Exactly. See you, baby."
"Wait- no." His shoulders slump as your figure disappears into the bathroom.
"Really, Luke? Here of all places?" Claire shakes her head.
He shrugs, "what can I say? She's hot."
Haley and Alex roll their eyes.

my mind is vibrating with the idea of a “too sweet” by hozier based luke castellan x dionysius reader
maybe as he’s slowly going dark after his quest bringing up ideas of rebellion against the gods and her trying to lure him away from that path and be supportive while still giving prayers and offerings to the gods for the line “ you keep telling me to live right to go to bed before the daylight but then you wake up for the sunrise” and luke being conflicted by his love for her and his need for vengeance trying to give into her warmth and comfort
“I wish I could go along babe don't get me wrong you know you're bright as the morning as soft as the rain”
and luke just trying in little ways to corrupt her(c’mon we love a little dark luke toxicity) like extra hard ways to strike down opponents in training and encouraging her doubts in the gods but then ultimately realizing her belief in them in is to rooted to her and can’t be stomped down that easily(mainly bc we love grump dad mr.d who shows his love like jay pritchett)
“you know you don't gotta pretend baby now and then don’t you just wanna wake up”
him knowing that he’s gonna leave her behind and betray percy and before he does thinking back to those brief moments of her struggling not to give into temptation against the gods and then ultimately staying true to her belief in them and him ultimately giving into the temptation to rebel but still relishing everything that was left in between those moments knowing he’s leaving them behind
“pretty as a vine as sweet as a grape if you can sit in a barrel maybe I'll wait until that day id rather take my whiskey neat”

True Feelings
Tumblr media
Luke Dunphy x Female!Reader
The readers name is Isabella Wheeler.
Warnings: None, just like a normal Modern Family TVPG episode.
SOME INFO ON THE BACKSTORY OF THEM! ⬇️
Information: Isabella Wheeler and Luke Dunphy were friends since they were friends since they were 13, but ever since Isabella’s parents abandoned her, the Dunphy’s took her in and she’s been living with them plus the Pritchett/Delgado/Tucker at certain weeks. Child Services thinks it’s a good choice. Now the two both in high school.
(Takes place in Season 6, my version)
Friday Morning - At School
Isabella Wheeler adjusted her backpack as she made her way through the crowded hallways of her new high school. It had been almost two years since she moved in with the Dunphy family, and she was still adjusting to her new life. She glanced around, searching for her best friend, Luke Dunphy, amidst the sea of students.
"Isabella!" a familiar voice called out, and I turned to see Luke weaving his way through the crowd towards me. He flashed me a grin, his blue eyes sparkling with excitement. "Ready for another day of conquering high school?"
I smiled, feeling a surge of gratitude for the friend who had been by her side through thick and thin. "As ready as I'll ever be," I replied, falling into step beside him as we made our way to our first class.
Throughout the day, Isabella and Luke navigated the challenges of high school together, sharing inside jokes, trading notes, and offering each other unwavering support. They sat together at lunch, chatting and laughing as if they had known each other their entire lives.
As the final bell rang, signaling the end of the school day, me and Luke walked out of the building together, the warm afternoon sun shining down on us. "So, what's the plan for tonight?" Luke asked, slinging his arm around my shoulders.
I shrugged, a mischievous glint in her eye. "How about a movie at your place? I heard your mom bought a ton of snacks."
Luke grinned, his excitement. "Sounds perfect. Let's go."
As we walked home together, I couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment wash over me. In the midst of all the changes and uncertainties in my life, I knew one thing for certain: with Luke by my side, I could face anything that came my way.
We were sitting on the couch watching our favorite movie Trolls. We had snacks (popcorn, water, and salad). Once the movie was over, we fell asleep. My head was on Luke’s shoulders and his head was on my head.
-Saturday Morning-
“What time is it” I ask and I realizes they slept on the couch. “Oh Shit! Luke we over slept!…Wait did you cover us with a blanket?” Luke says “No…”. “I did” Claire Dunphy says. She always think that we may end up together based on their friendship. “Also don’t forget, you two have the fair today.” Claire says. Luke bought tickets two weeks ago and Claire reminded them about it so we (mostly he) don’t forget, we don’t like it and she don’t. They seem like it’s a Lose-Lose sorta thing.
Phil drops them off, “Remember, if you need anything, call me or your mother” he says. Luke replies with how every teen says this word, “Okay!”. Luke and me tries almost all the games until, The Ferris Wheel. Isabella was afraid of heights, Luke wasn’t. “Let’s go on it.” An excited Luke says. “I can’t, you know me…I get anxiety which could lead to panic attacks…” I say. “Don’t worry, just get close to me if you feel scare or think of dogs, unicorns, rainbows.” he says. I replied with “Fine”.
We went on and we watched the sunset go down. It was beautiful. We got close and close together, I felt calm, something I haven’t felt ever since they took me in. We looked at each other and I could only think of him.
We kissed, until the ride ended. “Oh um, sorry…” he says. “We should tell them to pick us up now…”. I say. The Dunphy’s dropped me off at Jay and Gloria’s, it was my week with them.
“In some way, I thought was it meant to be, was it the sunset that brought us together, or was it the Trolls that made me realize my true feelings to Luke. I think I love him.” I say looking at the camera sitting on the Delgado’s couch.
The ending part was a scene where they talk in front of the camera.

Headcanons: Being the Nonbinary (Second) Youngest Pritchett Sibling
MASTERLIST | AO3 | KO-FI
Relationship(s): The Pritchett-Tucker-Dunphy family x nonbinary!reader (platonic/familial)
Warnings: Descriptions of coming out and canon-typical ‘not understanding the queers’. (Let me know if I need to add any)
(A/N: I haven’t watched all of Modern Family yet, though I’ve seen up until season 8 and the occasional later episode. This is highly self-indulgent, and I’ll probably end up writing some more fics based on this premise; feel free to request them!)
Tumblr media
Growing up, there may have been signs that you were a little ‘different’; maybe not.
If there were, Jay chose to ignore it.
Some suspicion would only arise after Mitch’s coming out(s).
Whenever you realised you were nonbinary, I imagine that the first of your family members who you would come out to would be Mitch, who would, in his own repressed way, support you in any way he could.
I don’t know if Claire would necessarily understand, but she’d still be supportive.
When you come out to your parents, they’re both confused, but Dede is immediately accepting and supportive (and Jay always insists that it was just to spite him).
On the other hand, Jay... well, he isn’t cruel or dismissive or anything.
He just doesn’t get it.
But, you’re his kid- his baby- and he doesn’t want to lose you because he doesn’t understand.
So, he’ll go along with it and try calling you what you wanna be called.
Keep the peace, y’know?
And, he’ll screw up.
At first, part of him will feel like you, or anyone else who corrects him, are being overly pedantic, but he’ll grit his teeth and concede to avoid any conflict.
It’ll take him years and several lectures from Mitchell and Gloria for Jay to realise how important it is for him to try his best to understand you, or at the very least get it right as much as he can.
And, when he does, he’ll make sure to let you know that you have his full support, and he’s sorry that he couldn’t let you feel that sooner.
Gloria has always supported you.
Like your mother, her acceptance of you was immediate, and this time Jay couldn’t claim it was to spite him.
She wants the best for you and your relationship with your dad, so she will try her best to get him to support you rather than just tolerate you because he loves you.
Like Claire and Mitchell, she corrects him when he gets things wrong.
She’ll be happy to take you shopping for gender-affirming clothes.
And, she’ll be happy to listen if you ever need it.
Manny’s a mature and sensitive kid, so I feel like he’d mostly understand your gender when it’s first explained to him.
He’s never afraid to ask questions, though he’ll always do it out of curiosity, not judgement.
Phil, Claire and their kids all respect you.
Claire will always correct your dad when he gets things wrong.
I imagine that Phil is especially supportive and will happily refer to you as his ‘sibling-in-law’.
When Claire told him about your gender, I feel like he probably looked it up and, with a lot of research, grew to understand you as much as a cis guy ever could.
Haley and Luke probably don’t completely get it at first, but they’ll both try their best.
Alex is probably the Dunphy who understands it the most (and she probably thinks that being nonbinary is really kickass).
If anyone in her family needs any clarification on anything (it’s typically her siblings), she’ll be the first to explain things.
I feel like she’s very supportive of and knowledgeable about trans and nonbinary people and the issues they face (just between you and me, I headcanon Alex as queer, so that’s probably why).
Your chief supporters in your family are Mitch and Cam.
Whenever you need to vent about things that the rest of your family just won’t get, they’re always happy to lend a listening ear, especially Cam.
Although Mitchell cares so much about you, he struggles to be as openly loving and kind as Cam.
Cam will probably be the one who urges Mitch to speak to Jay on your behalf about how his behaviour affects you.
If you ever get any gender-affirming medical treatment, they’ll volunteer to go with you to appointments.
They’d also introduce you to their queer friends, if that’s something you want.
It may take some time, but you’ll get to feel like an accepted and supported member of your family in the end, because even if some of them don’t get it, they’ll try their best to make you feel affirmed.

I came over from you Ao3 account, and I wanted to ask if you can write a Luke Dunphy x reader meeting the rest of the family. And in the future is there anything you won't write? (Ignore my username my friend made it and I have no idea how to change it. Help.)
Meeting the Extended Family | Luke Dunphy Headcanon
Tumblr media
Hi! My rules are here for what I will/won’t write. But don’t be afraid to ask :)
And to change your username, here’s a wikihow.
—————
After you had met Luke’s parents, and Haley, the other members of the Dunphy-Pritchett-Tucker clan would begin to ask when they could meet you
From all the things Phil and Claire had told them, it seemed to be going pretty seriously and they wanted to see the two of you together
Alex more so because she wasn’t there when you met the parents.
So when Jay announced, with much prodding from Gloria, that he was having everyone over for a barbecue, your name came up pretty quickly
“I’m sorry about this,” Luke had said when he told you of the event, “they insisted you come. They all want to meet you.”
“Don’t be sorry. Your parents were lovely; how bad could the rest be?”
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
And In hindsight, you should’ve heed his warning a little more than you did.
The two of you arrived a little later than the rest due to Luke giving you a run down on who’s who.
(You had heard many stories about his family and the situations they landed themselves in but you weren’t great with remembering faces from photos).
The first person you’d come across would be a Claire as she fussed over something small in the kitchen, she quickly greeted you with a hug before directing you outside where most of the family was.
They were all so excited to meet you that as they talked about what you could be like, the didn’t notice you entire the garden
Luke, however, just rolled his eyes and sat down on the patio in front of the pool with you.
“Give them a minute. They’ll notice us soon.” He said, looking over at his family. He was so used to their antics that your expression of confusion shocked him slightly. He never had truly grasped how abnormal his family could be sometimes.
Luke just rolled his eyes before turning towards the doors where Manny had appeared. He was the only other member of the family that you knew well, considering that you were in the same year group. “Hey (Y/N), how’re you?”
“I’m good,” you said, eyes still focused on the group huddled on the other side of the pool. You had managed to pick out a few faces like Phil and Jay.
“They haven’t noticed, have they?” He asked, looking amused when you answered no. “Hey guys! You know (Y/N)’s been here for a bit now?”
Their reaction was hilarious
(Luke had later said he wished he had recorded it).
They looked like a herd of deer in headlights.
Gloria was the first one to come over, giving you a hug before telling, or rather commanding, Jay to come over and say hello.
He did, begrudgingly, not wanting to leave his meat on the grill in case Phil took over.
One by one the others trickled over to meet you
Mitchell took a strong liking to you, as your sense of humour accompanied his pretty well.
Conversation came pretty easily, each of them wanting to make you feel welcome.
After a few minutes of subtle (but not really) interrogation, their interest dwindled slightly back into their own personal issues and they lighten up on you.
Mostly
Every once and awhile, one of them drifted back to you and Luke and the questions would start once more
You weren't overly bothered by it, but in the end it did to Luke. He told everyone to back off a bit before getting some food that Jay had finished cooking
Overall it was nice, the family were as interesting as you had been told, and you were quickly becoming a fan favourite in the Dunphy-Pritchett-Tucker family.
