Oh someone last night just sent me a message saying if you're an Izzy stan you're a terrible person and some other things. I responded to it and they just sent a longer one today detailing all the ways in which I was a terrible person and I think cancelling my queerness? 😂 And then someone else said anyone who is an Izzy stan is as bad as a n@zi. It was all just pretty funny to me because...I'm not even an Izzy stan? I think he's a terrible awful little man who does horrible things and makes for an interesting character. Like I'm sure some of the stuff he does is from past trauma(which the asker was saying I was using as justification) but I don't think that excuses anything he does. Anyway, I don't let it get to me, I understand the difference between fiction and reality.

Ok so a conversation @littlx-songbxrd and I were having made me remember something I was ranting about to a friend of mine once.

Brace yourselves this is going to be long. I'm sorry.

The sexism, homophobia and racism of the shadoworld straight up doesn't make sense and here's why. So if we start chronologically with the infernal devices. There is sexism towards Charlotte right? People don't want her running the institute and they don't want her becoming the consul because she is a woman. But the Clave has no problem letting women train and fight. This doesn't really make sense in my opinion.

Now you could argue that it's because they believe woman can be string capable fighters just not rational thinkers. Which is weird because in my experience you don't meet a lot of people who are "partially sexist" in that way. Like if a man believes a woman can't do high profile, high paying jobs then they usually also don't want them in the military. Anyways moving on, there aren't any mentions of homophobia in TID, mostly because they're arent any queer characters except Magnus and Woolsey.

But something interesting to point out is that none of the characters who know about Magnus and Woolsey ever comment on it really. And following this point, none of the mains display any signs of misogyny either really. (Except for what Will says to Tessa at the end of CA but that was because of the "curse.") You could argue that this is because they're the protagonists so they are supposed to be better then that. But accidental microaggressions are pretty common especially during that time period. More on that later.

Moving onto racism, this is the interesting part. Jem says to Tessa that shadowhunters believe that you are a shadowhunter first and your nationality or eace second. Actually Jem doesnt mention race but he says this while talking about being half Chinese so it's kinda relevant. Shadowhunters rarely tall about race throughout the books in general except for a few instances. When Jessamine criticizes Jem to Tessa, she calls him a foreigner and says some other racist shit that I can't really remember. Something about the yin fin and calling him lazy. That directly contradicts Jem's statement about them all being shadowhunters first. Also Will and Jem actually constantly talk about being Welsh and Chinese in the books so that statement is kinda bogus in general.

And if CC didn't want her mains being sexist or homophobic to show them as good people then why was it ok for both Jesse and Gabriel to say questionable shit about Jem? Anyways moving on to TLH. Sexism is still running rampid with their cultural customs and people being shitty about Charlotte being consul. Bots have to ask the girls to dance, girls cannot have sex before marriage or else they will be ruined or whatever you know the drill. But again, they let the girls fight. Cordelia is allowed to carry around a giant ass sword but she can't get some????

IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE CASSANDRA!!!!!

Sorry I'm losing it. Anyways. Regarding racism. Alastair and Cordelia have experienced micro aggressions from the mains (Matthew and Anna) but it's never addressed. I'm pretty sure if memory serves, the inquisitor makes a nasty comment under his breath about persians when the Carstairs family sans Elias arrive. And then we have the whitewashing of Ariadne/Kamala by her parents.

But none of this stuff ever gets brought up really. Exceot for Kamala talking about her past and who she was before and sharing her original name, but she still doesn't talk about how it effects her potential coming out. Alastair doesnt mention race when he talks about the bullying he went through at the academy and none of the white characters ever stop to think about how Kamala and Alastsir's races play a part in their crappy situations.

There's probably more I could discuss with this but I'm moving on to homophobia. It's a thing in terms of the heteronormativity and people's judgement of Anna but it's not illegal like in mundane societies at this time. But all of the mains are totally cool with it which brings me to, I'm sorry but fucking bullshit! There is no way every single adult would be totally fine with it in this time period. Like I'm not saying outright homophobia but maybe some questionable comments you know? (CC is perpetuating this idea that good people never commit microaggressions which is untrue and harmful.)

I don't think there's any mention of whether or not gay marriage is allowed in the shadowhunter world at this point. Because the issues surrounding Magnus and Alec getting married were about Magnus being a warlock right? Because Helen and Aline got married before them in TFTSA because she was only half fae. So that brings me to when was gay marriage legalized in the shadow world?????

Is there any mention of this because I don't think there is? Anyways moving onto TMI. This is where everything goes to absolute shit in terms of world building with the standards for these things. Misogyny isn't really a problem in tmi anymore from what I remember. Nobody has issues with Jia as consul (from what I remember,) and that's that. But homophobia is still rambid throughout shadowhunter society so much so that Alec is terrified to come out because he believes that he can't be gay and be a shadowhunter in peoples eyes. Also there is pressure to "carry on the family name" which doesn't make sense because if the sexism has died out then women can have babies with whoever and not even be married and carry on their family line. And not everyone needs to have children, ergo there is less pressure on the sons to carry on the family name or whatever. This also doesn't make sense because homophobia literally cannot exist without sexism!!!!

This is because of colonial gender roles being forced on society. And men being with men and women being with woman totally smashes the whole gender roles, "woman do this and men do that" idea. There's more that I could say on that but this is already so freaking long so please just look it up. And speaking of gender roles it's literally mentioned that Maryse didn't teach Izzy to cook because she didn't want her to be forced into a housewife role like she was (although there's no evidence to suggest she was?) But then Maryse is lowkey homophobic?

CC doesn't get that you literally don't have homophobia or transphobia without sexism. Indigenous societies pre-colonization didn't care about any of that stuff. Literally two spirit people were revered and respected and no one gave a fuck about gender until my ancestors literally came along and ruined everything. (I'm so sorry.)

But anyways there's no mentions of racism amongst the shadowhunters in tmi. Just Maia talking about her experiences with mundane society as a black girl. When Clary confronts Valentine and basically calls him a n*zi, he laughs at her and basically says that shadowhunters don't see race the way mundanes do which yikes @ CC. Granted this was 2007. This kind of sounds like what Jem said in TID. Only it clearly wasnt true.

Anyways I'm just super confused at this point. In TDA there was basically nothing in terms of all the isms and phobias. (Oh we arent even discussing ableism because my fucking head will explode!) But we do discuss transphobia a bit with Diana. But again it doesn't make fucking sense because transphobia exists because of sexism and clear gender roles (and homophobia.)

Society is still shown to be pretty heteronormative though which I guess makes sense but the Blackthorns have multiple queers in their family! You would think that they would be less so. When Livvy mentions all the reasons that Annabel could have a forbidden love she doesnt even think to mention that it could be a lesbian relationship. When Mark finds out that Jaime was in Dru's room he freaks out but I guarentee you, he wouldn't have if Jaime was a girl. I mean you could argue that it's an age thing and not a gender thing but idk. That scene always bothered the fuck out of me. Because Mark is literally half fae like why is he caught up on bullshit "boys and girls can't just be friends" hetero bullshit.

In QOAAD we see Dane Larksoear being sexist so randomly for no reason. Like it's so strange because CC literally created a caricature of a sexist villian with him. And it makes no sense because no one else seems to feel the way he does. Like Zara is basically the leader of the cohort right? And nobody gives a fuck. It makes no damn sense Cassandra!

And finally, why is the faerie world sexist with gender roles WHEN EVERYONE IS LITERALLY BISEXUAL AND THEY'RE FAERIES CASSANDRA!!!???? THEY'RE LITERALLY FAERIES WHY IS THERE A CONCEPT OF GENDER AT ALL CASSANDRA????!!!!

Ok lol now I'm done. Sorry this is so long. But yeah I'm so confused.

Tldr: CC's world building in regards to sexism, homophobia, racism and transphobia is very inconsistent and contradictory and it makes no damn sense.

Painted Leaves on the High Wind | Sweets

Tony sneaks out of Anthony’s room after tucking his son in and nearly sprints for the main floor before his wife could see him. Tiptoeing down the stairs, rounding the bend with only the raised head of Izzy, barely making a sound.

He rubs his hands together, an evil grin from ear to ear. He reaches for the closet door, ready for his prize. The ever loving parent tax!

Reading for the back of the overhead shelf, he feels around for the boxes he had brought home only hours before and hid while they had been distracted. His fingers tapping back and forth, looking back at his memory for which side he placed the goods at.

The clearing of a throat and the snort of a tired pooch, Tony freezes in his movement. Turning his head, his wife stands in the hallway, her arms crossed and her hip pushed out.

Tony stands in the closet, gapping like a fish. “Uh…”

“Do you really think you were going to open those boxes?” Ziva eyes him. “Without me?”

He lets out a short laugh. “Of course not Zi-vah!”

He winks. “Now let me finish finding it.” Furrowing his brows, he pushes himself on his toes.

Ziva turns on her heels, her long curls flowing behind her. “Let me know when you find them!” She calls over her shoulder.

He stops looking for a moment, wondering if the troubling two had already found the goods. He checks the other shelves, his ears picking up a hint of a wrapper being open. “No…” He leaps to his feet and rushes to the living room, diving onto the couch to get the chocolate bar from his wife.

Only to be tackled by Izzy.

1. Yu Hao & Zi Xuan - “So you accept me?”

this was my first ever bl drama and it will forever have a special place in my heart. Their story was short but packed with emotions; the kiss in the finale is def one of my all time favorites, it’s soft af and just thinking about it makes me 🥺🥺

2. Khai & Third - “Can you forget what happened?”

I feel lowkey sorry for my followers bc I keep ranting about how much I love them sdkfh but yeah their story was one hell of a rollercoaster & this kiss had me so SHOOK I almost passed out lmao. Despite what came afterwards, this scene felt like a fairytale happy ending. However.... that’s not how it works lol. But either way this smooch makes the top of my list bc it’s the first time they’re finally both reciprocating; also OffGun’s chemistry is off the charts and it feels real af. A+ 💕

3. Tharn & Type - “Are you having fun?”

this scene is SO soft and it’s def one of, if not my favorite from the whole show. It’s the first kiss after Type admitted his feelings and it’s their first scene after they became official. It’s also the first time Type really initiated a kiss and yeah I’m getting emo again as I’m typing this hhhh It’s cute and domestic and just perfect. 😩

4. Tor & Fight - “I have a theory”

soft smooching in cheesy ass romantic settings? sign me the fuck up. This was definitely a turning point for their relationship and with all the steamy stuff that’s happening on the show it was nice to see a more minimalistic scene like this. I loved the setup, especially with Tor’s theory about how to find out if they like each other. They’re both fully giving in to their emotions for the first time here and it’s such an important moment 💋

5. Ae & Pete - “Can I kiss you again?”

Ughhh this is one of my favorite scenes from the show & it makes me so soft :((( The whole scene was beautifully done and it transports the shyness and sweetness of a first kiss so well and also Ae asking for consent?? I’m Weak(TM). Him getting out of the car, clenching his chest and going “what is this feeling?” is also my favorite line from the show and was the inspiration for my headline lol. (aka the side note no one cares about skljf)

-> Don’t hate me Tay honey, I’m breaking your rule but I have to add a 6th one fjkhsf you can’t expect me to pick just 5 😭

Bonus: Hao Ting & Xi Gu - “I’ve decided. Physics it is.”

This one had to go on the list bc I’m still emo af about this show and these two are making me feel all sorts of things. All of their moments were amazing and the intimacy and sensuality is off the charts; though I especially valued sweet moments like these. Hao Ting expressing how he wants to follow Xi Gu wherever he goes, even if that means studying something he doesn’t like and understand, as long as he’s close to him had me weeping 😭🥺Also the setting?? oof 😩

His eyes have nothing to do with being related Felix nor Izzy because he's not uh-- He used to help Izzy with stuff before he dated Felix. They broke up because Felix was uncomfortable with Rudolph's affiliation with Izzy so he understood completely.

Oh and He's not a n@zi. He's just stuck with a failed perk from Izzy. It's why his eyes are red. Basically He was supposed to be able to see through walls but Izzy fucked it up so now He's got the ability to see through human disguises. Potato patato.

“Isobel, trezeste-te!” Asa era de fiecare data. Se intorcea in fiecare noapte si o bantuia cu povesti incalcite, cu ghicitori pe care trebuia sa le rezolve. Nu si azi, m-am saturat! gandi tanara, tinand ochii inchisi. Luase somnifere, fusese la terapeuti, insa batrana nu disparea orice ar fi facut, iar ea avea nevoie de odihna pentru a-si tine mintea limpede. Era om de stiinta, adora sa lucreze in laboratorul universitatii, stiind ca intr-o zi va ajunge departe dupa ce i se va oferi slujba mult visata. Chiar si cu ochii inchisi, ii simtea prezenta in incapere. Scotand un oftat care anunta ca s-a trezit, Izzy a deschis ochii in bezna, a dat cuverturile la o parte si s-a ridicat in capul oaselor, parul negru revarsandu-se pe umerii dezgoliti. Greierii cantau de cealalta parte a ferestrei si lumina albastruie a lunii a strabatut frunzisul, cazand pe covorul pufos. Si iat-o pe batrana in vesminte albe, asezata in balansoarul din colt, ca de fiecare data. Noaptea ii ascundea trasaturile batrane, iar parul des, incaruntit ii cadea pe umeri, asa cum i se intampla si ei. Cumva ii oglindea miscarile si reactiile, iar trasaturile celor doua erau asemanatoare. Ar fi jurat ca se priveste in oglinda. Ma rog, o varianta mult mai in varsta a sa. Dar desigur, mintea ei obosita nascocea tot felul de scenarii si stia ca si de aceasta data viseaza. Terapeutii au sfatuit-o sa isi elibereze mintea inainte de culcare, sa ia somnifere usoare si sa alunge orice idee care prindea radacini. Dar cum sa faca asta cand a doua zi urma sa aiba o sedinta importanta cu sefa sa? Clatina din cap si-si trecu degetele pe la ochi, dorindu-si sa se trezeasca mai repede si-si arunca o privire la telefonul de pe noptiera. Era ora 3 dimineata! Mai am doua ore de somn! Pleaca! gandi ea, incercand sa alunge acel vis. “Ce doresti?” sopti Izzy. “Dragut din partea ta c-ai trecut pe la mine, dar maine este o zi importanta. Lasa-ma sa dorm!” Vorbitul ii provoca o durere in gat, de parca acesta nu s-ar fi trezit odata cu ea. Ochii, care inca se obisnuiau cu intunericul, desluseau treptat amanuntele fetei ridate, liniile care ii incadrau gura, ridurile din colturile ochilor ei intunecati, insa isi amintea mult prea bine cum arata. Nu era prima data cand o vizita in somn. S-a frecat din nou la ochi, iar batrana nu s-a clintit. “Trebuie sa va pregatiti! Nu mai e timp! Doar Puterea celor Trei va va elibera!” sopti femeia, iar Izzy isi tranti capul pe perna. Spunea acelasi lucru de trei seri incoace.

“Innebunesc, asta e clar!” si-a zis ea si a inchis ochii. “Povestile se nasc din constiinta noastra, copila. Izvorasc din ceea ce stim deja. Vin din lucrurile pe care le invatam de la strabunii nostri. Daca vrei sa iei cea mai buna decizie, trebuie sa asculti toate povestile si sa le simti pana in maduva oaselor. Nici o poveste nu este mai adevarata decat adevarul insusi! Aceasta este povestea voastra!” Apoi a disparut. Tanara a mai zabovit o jumatate de ora in pat, apoi a coborat cu picioarele pe podeaua rece, stiind ca nu o sa mai poata adormi din nou. Se trezise! Visul disparuse si odata cu el si ultimele ei ore de somn. Si-a strecurat picioarele in papucii pufosi si si-a imbracat hanoracul care statea aruncat pe un fotoliu, apoi si-a prins parul intr-o coada la baza gatului si a iesit din camera. In casa era liniste, dar cum nu mai putea sa adoarma a mers incet pe hol si a coborat in bucatarie, unde a inceput sa gateasca turta dulce pentru familia ei. Ar fi facut orice ca sa isi tina mintea ocupata! Tot in bucatarie era si doua ore mai tarziu, cand a realizat ca nu mai avea timp destul ca sa se pregateasca pentru sedinta de la ora opt! “La naiba!” injura ea si se uita la ceas, alergand sa opreasca aragajul. David i-a promis lui Ivy ca o va lua de dimineata cu masina si vor merge impreuna la universitate, asa ca la ora stabilita, barbatul a fost in fata casei. Suna la usa, iar Izzy i-a deschis usa, invitandu-l inauntru. “Iris! Ivy! Trezirea! David a venit!” i-a zambit si l-a imbratisat in graba. “Buna, David! Pa, David! Ma grabesc! Sunt in intarziere! Fa-te comod! Ivy coboara imediat!” Sper, gandi ea si alerga pe scari, la etaj. David i-a facut cu mana si s-a asezat pe un scaun din bucatarie, servindu-se din omuletii de turta dulce pe care i-a pregatit sora mai mare a lui Ivy. Erau intr-adevar deliciosi! Intre timp, Isobel a dat iama in baie, inaintea surorilor sale si s-a spalat in graba, apoi la fel de repede s-a si imbracat. Ar fi concurat cu cel mai rapid om, Flash, daca ar fi existat cu adevarat si nu ar fi fost doar un simplu personaj din benzile desenate ori din serialele de succes. Imbraca o fusta neagra, dreapta si o bluza rosie, peste care a pus sacoul. A pierdut cateva minute scotocind prin cutiile cu pantofi dupa perechea perfecta. Odata ce a fost gata, tanara a iesit din camera si a dat peste Ivy, care astepta la usa baii. “Iar s-a inchis Iris? Ce face acolo? Vraji?” glumi ea si o imbratisa. “Bafta azi! Ah, si iubitul tau e jos! Grabeste-te!” Si dusa a fost!

Nici nu si-a salutat mama, insa stia ca o va suna ceva mai tarziu pentru a-i povesti cum a decurs sedinta, In fond, mamele sunt intotdeauna acolo cand ai nevoie de ele, nu? David era la a treia prajitura cand Ivy a coborat si zambetul ii crestea pe masura ce fata se apropia de el. S-a ridicat in picioare si a venit spre ea, depunandu-i un sarut pe buze. “Mi-a fost dor de tine,” i-a spus tanarul bucuros sa o vada in acea dimineata. Connor simtea Puterea, stia ca era in apropiere insa nu intelegea cui ii apartinea. Nu inca! Vizita fiecare loc de pe planeta in care traisera odata vrajitoarele, dar acum multe se ascundeau si pretindeau ca sunt oameni! Pufni! Nu mai erau ce au fost odata, asa cum multe dintre creaturile noptii isi pierdeau din energie. Insa el era acolo si va trezi Sursa, aducand din nou Intunericul pe pamant! Se afla la cativa metri de casa familiei Vera, cu braţele încrucişate pe piept, rezemat de cel mai mare stejar din zona. Arăta ca şi cum era acolo de multe ore. Connor zambi, plin de aroganta, stiind ca in curand puterile tuturor creaturilor noptii se vor intoarce la posesorii de drept si nimeni nu se va mai ascunde, iar oamenii se vor teme din nou de ei. Vrajitoarele erau putine, Puterea celor Trei nu mai exista de mult amar de vreme, Batranii s-au ascuns sub pietrele lor de mormant. Nu mai avea cine sa le tina piept lui si demonilor din subordinea sa. Barbatul răsuflă adânc şi se indepărtă de copac, uitându-se în jur. Era imbracat in negru din cap pana in picioare, iar mişcările ii erau graţioase, fiecare gest controlat şi precis. Secolele au cizelat eleganţa naturală a lui Connor. Cu o seara inainte a fost nevoit sa elimine un demon care i-a incalcat ordinele: “Eu sunt mai puternic decât tine, la fel cum tu eşti mai puternic decât aceste jalnice făpturi omeneşti. Sunt şi mai rapid decât tine, şi am şi alte Puteri de care tu nici măcar n-ai auzit. Vechile Puteri! Şi nu mă tem să le folosesc. Dacă vei lupta impotriva mea, le voi folosi împotriva ta,” l-a avertizat inainte sa ii curme viata. Acum ochii negri survolau imprejurimile, in cautarea sursei energiei pe care a simtit-o mai devreme. A observat o tanara care se grabea sa ajunga in alta parte si avu impulsul de a porni pe urmele sale, insa s-a oprit, aruncand o privire spre casa din care a iesit. “Hmmmm,” rosti el cu voce tare si-si trecu degetele prin parul negru.
