There are works which are not [genre] but works made that have read a lot of [genre]. YJ is not an anime but it is a cartoon that has watched a lot of anime. MTMTE is not a comedy but it is a space opera that has watched a lot of sitcoms. I’d like to learn the term for a work that is deep in conversation with a genre without belonging to that genre even as a hybrid. Specifically works that address, lampshade, satirize, employ genre signposts without obeying genre conventions.

Prolonged Communication Chapter 3
It was the day after the Kraang’s attempt at an invasion. April was watching the television, slumped on her couch, watching idly. So much had happened. The memories flashed quickly in her head, like a videotape rolling each rollercoaster of emotions and what she had experienced.
She and the turtles may have celebrated the night before but that was probably a mistake considering her body aches from running around, skidding, and being held by leather restraints.
Today, she is feeling the physical labor and she vows to take a rest day! No madness! No hanging with the brothers! No going out! She is staying in and lazing around!
-----
Casey stumbles, accidentally bumping a shorter bright redhead (or ginger? He couldn’t tell as the girl ran off quickly.), bidding a quick apology before continuing to type on his phone, occupied with his conversation with you.

I deleted my reblog of the post in question because my Umbar pet theory makes me very happy and I don't want to sully it with other people's bad behavior but in the interest of transparency:
Someone I don't know reblogged my post that I made outlining the theory and asked me if there was any actual evidence for it or if it was just my ideas, told me it didn't make any sense, complained that my interpretation of Castamir the Usurper didn't line up with theirs, spent a good long paragraph talking about how the writing in LotRO is bad these days, especially the Umbar expansion (which they have not played), and then started talking about Earnur for some reason. TBH I didn't really read the last paragraph. I responded by saying, "This is really aggressive and seems to be in bad faith so I'm not going to respond" (<the reblog I deleted). They then went into the replies and tried to claim that we did know each other and that I was taking all this way too personally and being mean to them, actually. So I blocked them.

The Relic Song being a special song in Blur/Blight canon and almost every AU ever with the exception of Numeron Code- Relic Song is just a personal song that Slater taught to Piper. It only becomes special once Piper becomes a Number Hunter, and that's the haunting melody his opponents hear him whistling before they duel for their life and he steals their souls.
Aka it's Haruto Tenjo's theme. And it gets whistled too.
