i hope whoever decided quiz show should be in megamix got fired. but also i kind of hope they got a raise because idk what we'd do without quiz show bad jokes n that's the basis for like 90% of them-
#puppy rambles#rhythm hell#rhythm heaven#quiz show#quiz show is bad by the way#it's fine if you like it (/gen) but it's just. genuinely a bad game#it's not a rhythm game. rhythm heaven minigames are literally called rhythm games#like literally. i'm pretty sure they have been since tengoku (i'm just assuming based on silver's translation to be fair)#quiz show literally doesn't require ANY rhythm whatsoever#there's not even music playing for 90% of it#in tengoku there's literally no reason to copy the rhythm. it's literally easier to just memorize it and/or check the wiki#the extra button presses are just fuckin' tacked on at the end of the sets so it's really easy to just add one or two to the number#quiz show is the fucking worst rhythm game. there's so many games that could've been in that slot instead#even if not bon odori or toss boys or rap men or something we could've gotten showtime or wizard's waltz or tram & pauline#or LITERALLY ANYTHING OTHER THAN QUIZ SHOW#i'd even take fireworks over quiz show. i don't even LIKE fireworks#i forgot to list samurai slice origins n polyrhythm but those too#we truly do live in the worst timeline#anyways jokes about quiz show being bad are still funny in my opinion idk why people get so annoyed by them#every fandom has jokes that people just repeat endlessly this is the rhythm heaven fandom's#alongside “watch the male lizard practice his new rhythms” and that kinda shit#the Instinctual Fan Club Response™ as i've proclaimed it. aka hearing someone say/reading “i suppose”#and internally (or externally take your pick) going “III SUPPOSE‚ HEY”#i say that's a joke but also i just genuinely do that. someone says i suppose n i'm just like “III SUPPOSE‚ HEY-”#these are the ways we keep ourselves sane in our wait for rhythm heaven 5-

I've been a Pokémon fan since the very beginning and recently a friend asked me who my favourite character was. I couldn't answer with just one character. So instead I gave her my top 3 favourites from each generation - and then turned it into this. lol
A little bit more info under the cut if you're interested.
_______
Please do not alter, repost/reupload or redistribute my artwork anywhere! (Reblogging is perfectly fine, of course.)
Gen 1:
Blue: The original rival, you loved to hate him. :D
Erika: I loved her design as a kid, even though I had no idea what a kimono was back then lol
Bill: No idea tbh lol. I like his hair and that he's a nerd, I guess? Honestly, Gen 1 did not have that many memorable and fleshed out characters, so I kinda struggled here.
Gen 2:
Lance: Honestly, he was my fave in Gen 1 already. I love his strength, his design, his virtuousness, his bravery, his code of honour, his everything. To me he's like a knight in shiny armour from old fairytales. lol I could spend a whole day describing all the things I love about him, but I don't wanna bore you.
Eusine: Probably a weird pick for many because he is kinda obnoxious in the game lol I've always had a soft spot for him though and I really wanted him to get Suicune in the end, after he'd changed.
Morty: I love his design and colours and that he's Eusine's bff and voice of reason.
Gen 3:
Steven: He is classy, wears a really awesome suit, has very cool Pokémon and is still a huge nerd. I love it!
Archie: (I see you, @chipsncookies) Big hunk with a big smile and a cool outfit. Beard. Not a bad guy, actually. Learns that he was wrong and does everything to make things right again. Frienemies with Maxie.
Maxie: Scrawny beanpole with a silly (but very cozy looking) outfit. Secretly a dork. Not a bad guy either. Learns from his mistakes and wants to make them right again. Frienemies with Archie.
Gen 4:
Riley: I was a huge fan of Sir Aaron in the movie and Riley is just as awesome. I love his hat too. His personality is also similar to Lance's, so that's a huge plus.
Cynthia: I really, really like her. She is so cool and strong and her theme is amazing. Just like Charizard she's become too popular and that gets a bit tiresome sometimes.
Looker: Okay, I admit, it took me a while to get used to Looker. But now I like his quirky, funny Inspector Gadget shenanigans. What changed my mind was the aftergame of XY. ;__;
Gen 5:
Ingo & Emmet: I couldn't do it. I couldn't choose who of them I like more. So they share the first place. They're a duo anyway. And absolutely inseparable. R-Right?
Elesa: I like her mainly because of the fanon that she's bffs with the subway twins. But she's also not the bitchy supermodel that I first thought she was. She's actually kind and supportive.
Alder: Funny grandpa with awful hair, but a big heart and a great theme song.
Gen 6:
Lysandre: His design always gave me Ganondorf-vibes. That's pretty much it. His goal is stupid.
Emma: Her storyline in the post-game was by far the best thing in XY. And her theme is so beautiful!
Sycamore: I still wish he had actually turned out to be evil. I still like him.
Gen 7:
Kukui: What is not to love about him? He's a hunk, he loves his wife, he takes in Lillie, he punches Pokémon with his bare hands.
Lillie: Sweet little girl who deserves all the love from her friends and her adoptive parents instead of all the shit her psycho bio mother put her through.
Burnet: She's sweet and smart and kind and I wish she had a much bigger role in the game. Her anime part was great though <3
Gen 8:
Piers, Sonia and Raihan: Honestly... These are pretty much the only characters that I remember lol Gen 8 was very underwhelming for me.
Gen 9:
Arven: Just a poor neglected boy who wants to save his sick dog. In contrast to his shitty parents he's got a big heart, is caring, nurturing and supportive.
Clavell: The twist about this character was that there was no twist. He is just a very kind grandpa who genuinely cares for the well-being of his students. I also LOVE his battle theme.
Hassel: This game really is full of wholesome boomers. Hassel's got a huge heart for art and his students and Pokémon. He's also not afraid of showing his emotions.

For the ask game: ❤️💚💙
YAYY thank u sm for the ask! these questions r so fun. I’m going off of the book fandom btw
❤: Which character do you think is the most egregiously mischaracterized by the fandom?
Louis <3 I think this is an affect of how likable and overtly sympathetic he is in the amc show but I've seen people getting genuinely offended over Louis being described in fandom (and by Anne rice herself) as a manipulative cold hearted ass who uses his perceived vulnerability and gentleness to distract from the fact that he is just as cruel if not crueler then the other vampires. Like Louis does nottt have strong morals or high empathy lmao. Book Louis weaponizes his privilege like a white woman crying to self victimize into making the other vampires look worse them him 😭 . He refuses to kill humans for a while not bcus it hurts him to take life (he actually takes more pleasure in it then most), he refuses bcus he has catholic brain the way a christians who say "how do atheists have morals without god?" do, misunderstanding that most people actually care about other people and dont need an existential threat to encourage them not to hurt others.
His moral compass is self centered and based in up keeping the appearance of self restraint and monk style lack of enjoying himself, not empathy. If a vampire killed u would u feel better if u knew he cried over how much he got off on it then flaunted his suffering over how little he indulged so that everyone knew how piosis he was 😭.
He is way worse when it comes to how he treats his victims then Armand who intentionally seeks out victims who r asking to die or Lestat who tries the vigilante approach. Louis kills innocents and he thinks it makes him better cuz he only does it sometimes and he feels really really bad about himself afterwards. As akasha said (paraphrased) he's the most predatory of them all.
To specify I love book Louis SOOOO much I love how shitty he is that's why it makes me sad when people mischaracterize him as sincere and get gen mad when ppl characterize him how he is in canon (a lying selfish bitch bless his heart). Like ik amc Louis at this point in canon is unambiguously in the right but he isn't like an accurate reflection of how he is in the books 😭 it's not like amc did what anne rice was trying to do more successfully, they just nulled what anne rice was doing in favor of a more likable protagonist. Which is fine, but like, there's no crime in preferring evil to the core horrible asshole Louis of the books.
💚: What does everyone else get wrong about your favorite character?
I think the common fandom perception of Armand as the crazy unhinged "omg I can't believe he actually did that in the books??" sadistic maniac villain guy is funny but not really accurate. Armand explicitly not only tries to avoid violence but dislikes it and finds it hard to comprehend why someone would seek out violence and conflict.
The reason he is always doing fucked up shit isn't out of a lestat-esc desire to cause chaos, it's bcus his highly strung ptsd brain has him convinced that the world is a battle ground and he must always be defending himself and acting out in violence.
Since acting out in violence is a reaction hes been taught throughout his life to be standard and necessary, as violence is something so normalized to him he considers it more of a tedious chore then a last resort measure, he usually reacts to conflict in ways that are objectively extreme to anyone who isn't thinking from his perspective. In qotd he even asks Daniel why men choose to fight in wars, explaining that he doesn't understand the draw of violence (bcus he's not a man) and he can't comprehend the supposed thrill of it.
Then he says this in pl to Gregory

💙: Which character is not as hot as everyone else seems to think they are?
i was going to say Marius but I figure that's too obvious since everyone at this point knows I don't like Marius 😭 so here's an even hotter take,,,,, Lestat ‼️
Only to a degree, I think Lestat is hot and deserves the hype, but i also think he's hot in a different way then a chunk of the fandom does. Based on his book description he's kind of wonky looking, mouth too big for his face, vaguely unnerving shallow pale skin, starved 1700s peasant build but also kind of buff in the unhealthy "i dont eat regularly but I'm strong enough to carry a wolf for miles on my back" sense, weirdly small fucking feet. He def has creepy ass florescent blue doll eyes too. my point is I think when drooling over Lestat the fandom tends to forget this wonkiness in favor of blonde bombshell, Sam Reid chizzled jawline and abs, or conventionally beautiful anime twink, when they should be appreciating lestat in all his weird as shit glory.

So I debated for a long time whether to send this or not bc I explicitly do not want to equate what's happening in I/P to fiction or in any way trivialize the very real people who have died
But I find it incredibly ironic (in a bad way) how the leftist circles screaming about Zionism are the same circles that are STILL openly proudly fans of tv shows/books/movies that depict war in genuinely nuanced ways. Ways that EXPLICITLY contradict the black and white narratives exploding in leftist spaces.
So like. Did y'all miss the point or do you think nuance is for fiction only? There are innocent civilians on every side in war and civilians shouldn't be blamed for the actions of their governments --but only in fiction? In the real world it's fine to celebrate civilian casualties as long as they're Israeli? Guilt by association in fiction is bad but every Jewish person should be held accountable for the Israeli military???
Like I'm intentionally not naming any fandoms bc this SHOULDN'T be about fandoms, but the hypocrisy is killing me. They claim to be fans of the "killing civilians is bad even when they're from the Bad Culture™" shows but they're out in the real world denying (or worse celebrating) Oct 7th? They love the fictional characters who say "killing civilians is bad" but can't stand Jewish people mourning the civilians in israel? What???
(again, I'm really not trying to make this extremely real problem about fiction. I just mean the complete lack of self awareness I see every day has me ready to explode. )
no, i get what you mean. i definitely think there's a link between the massive drop in critical thinking and media literacy and the fandomization of real world issues. there's some statistic that gen z is the most politically active of most previous generations and while that's inherently a good thing, they're not engaging with politics and conflicts in responsible ways. they'll do a lot of organizing for a cause here in america and get something done, and then think they can do the same thing for international plights and just end up stepping on everyone's toes, inadvertently perpetuating that america-centric attitude they claim to be against, bc they don't listen.
a lot of people these days refuse to engage with media in the way it's intended and therefore ignore or flat out miss its entire message. you'll have a movie/show/book/whatever about the nuances of war, like the hunger games (which gen z is so completely misinterpreting), and how easy it is to become the person you're fighting against if you let yourself do the things they do eye for an eye style, and they'll come away from that comparing hamas to katniss. it makes no sense within the context of the book's narrative, yet that's the conclusion they draw because they refuse to properly engage. it contradicts their second-hand anger. they're mad about their own shitty life in the states and the powerlessness we all feel here as our rights are being threatened every single day, and they'll look for somewhere else to put it all. so they butt in to situations they don't belong in and make it worse like bulls in a china closet.
bottom line is that they see what they want to see because of their lack of self reflection and self awareness, thus allowing their lack of media literacy, critical thinking, and confirmation bias run the way they think and believe. they've taken "it's fiction" to the point where none of them would pass a basic english class and now palestinians and hamas are all blorbos in The Real World Show.

My Positive Rambly Thoughts About The Our Wonderland Arc 5 Finale
(Spoilers for OW Arc 5,bad grammar,self-indulgent/personal thoughts -nothing crazy though!-)
Here are my thoughts on the Arc 5 Finale of Our Wonderland and the game as a whole! (This is long and very rambly as I was still processing everything that happened!)
the beginning of the end. I like the group of four’s interaction in the cabin. it was nice. poor iggy though, remembering what happened. gidget too (even though they caused it). gen and orlam remembered things too but were too caught up in arguing with each other lmao. good on gidget for breaking that up.
“don’t I…deserve to be warm?” yes! you absolutely do iggy! unfortunately I had to choose the neutral option since I think my game glitched out my progress and my affection was too low for everyone..(it’s fine I’ll make up for it later!) at least iggy realizes that he needs to focus on himself for once! good!
I can’t lie when the screen went dark and Iggy mentioned being wrapped in something hard,I thought it was because Bucks got him (I was wrong of course).
“good morning starshine! the earth says hello!” lmao I love genzou (/platonic).
I liked the shot of the door opening and everyone’s reaction to it. when I saw the monster I had no clue what it even was at first and denied the idea that it could be bucks out of bewilderment (oh how wrong I was…). “we don’t stay long after that.” yeah I wouldn’t either! genzou leaving his beanie as good luck was cute and bittersweet. not going to lie I was kinda frustrated when Iggy’s friends acted reluctant about Iggy having a weapon (he can’t have self defense?? and then he ended up saving them w/ a necklace anyway!).
the “defeat it” part caught me off guard (like a lot of things in this arc would/pos). the game is very good at creating a sense of dread! and then..there was that monster that I thought was crazy even for wonderland standards. the last way I thought arc 5 bucks would look, the monster design is incredible though and that roar is terrifying! the fight scene was very impressive! it’s cool how it’s so dynamic even just using sprites and effects! also THE OFW REFERENCE?! that’s awesome to see tied in the main game again!
Iggy’s hand being cut off while using the doll to reach bucks genuinely made me gasp (the sketchy artstyle of that scene looks nice though!). the screen going red after that is really effective for conveying pain and terror. the sight of his injured hand is brutal. seeing the flashback of the group as kids and bucks and Hunar being cute gave me the strongest emotional whiplash ever. i felt bad for Bucks getting called a monster by her friends, brothers, and even her husband later down the line. Her going from happy to miserable. Her saying she hates her life and breaking down.
“You’re not a monster,Bucks…So please just come home…” Her seeing Hunar in Iggy and hugging him was beautiful. And then…finding the tree. God. Saydie never deserved any of this. She was a baby. I can’t imagine how Carrot felt while drawing that, seeing it uncensored. That tree is the absolute worst. Iggy being seen as a vessel is so sad. Him getting his soul separated from his body was not something I expected at all.
The “Child Of Nihility” stage is my absolute favorite part of this arc and probably the entire game overall. It’s so bright and peaceful. Child Saydie is adorable. Seeing her reunite Iggy with his (younger) friends and himself was really heartwarming. I adore when a story has the main character talk with the younger version of themself in person. Side note: Child Genzou wishing he could see Iggy again was so sweet. The music starting up already made me emotional since I already recognized the song but the visuals and Saydie’s dialogue made even more so. Iggy breaking the 4th wall and making his own choice was remarkable!
Him cutting down the tree was both tragic and incredible. Seeing the creatures of Wonderland fade away too. Young Iggy’s wish of wanting his friends to be happy forever. Best animatic / cutscene in the whole game!
A younger Iggy seeing his childhood friends again in the forest felt like a fitting way for them to leave Wonderland behind. The Saydie doll speaking back and being kept makes me like she’s not fully gone which is bittersweet to me. This scene and the epilogue makes me think their lives got reset but I could be wrong.
The neutral end epilogue. Bucks and Hunar leaving their own wedding was funny and sweet. Good for them! Also Hunar is pretty in his dress! And the better reactions to things in childhood! Past Iggy apologizing for what he did! Letting Orlam sit with him! Being with Genzou in the hospital! It’s all so great! Everyone’s new futures too! Iggy even having a better connection with his friends and discovering himself! The epilogue even ends with a Our Cinderella tie in! I love it all! Beautiful!
Final thoughts. This arc and game was a emotional rollercoaster in the best way possible! Making me feel sadness, anger, joy, sympathy, and more! Everything is so well executed! Art,music, dialogue, story, all of it! I especially loved the animatic / cutscenes parts! Overall, this was an amazing way to end an amazing game. I’ve loved it since starting it in February 2023 to now :)! Through playing OW,I’ve even gotten my artistic motivation back and have been inspired to get back into storytelling/series making! For that,I thank you,Carrot! I hope to experience more of your work in the future (no pressure! you definitely deserve the break)! Have a great day and year! ❤️ @just-a-carrot

hi idk if you're a huge kalos fan but how are you feeling about the direct
I haven't watched it yet, but ngl Kalos wasn't my favorite OR my least favorite pokemon game, I was pretty neutral on it overall. My main complaint was how annoying the map was to traverse before you got fly, but aside from that it was fine, introduced some cool pokemon and had a decent plot. Tbh for the next Legends game I would have preferred Jhoto, but eh. It's not a huge deal to me.
My real issue is that it's a little hard to get excited about it when I know how bad crunch is at Game Freak and that despite saying they were reevaluating their tight release cycle bcs like, ScarVi was borderline unplayable at launch and Arceus got abandoned the second they were done with it despite being the most popular game in years....I just have no faith that this game will be good, or at least it won't be anywhere near as good as it has the potential to be :/
I hope I'm proven wrong tho, and I don't think it's wrong to be excited about the game, something something no ethical consumption and I'd be a major hypocrite if I told people to drop any game company that has bad practices bcs almost all of them do, I just can't get hype. I was really, really hoping Game Freak would slow the hell down and stop making new games for a couple of years, put all of their focus on gen 10 and release that maybe in 2026 or 2027, but nope gotta make that money even if the games we release are falling apart at the seams and our devs are working on two or three projects at once.
And like, given the current trend in decreasing quality I'm genuinely unsure if the game is even going to be functional enough to be worth playing, especially since I figure to hit a 2025 release they probably started working on this right after Arceus came out, and there has simply not been enough time to make this game good. Plus there were a lot of points in ScarVi where I legit just wanted to put the game down and stop playing entirely bcs the graphics and glitches and framerate drops started to make me annoyed and dizzy, and once I was done with the main story I lost like all motivation to keep playing(I like finishing my dex, I did it in Sw/Sh and Let's Go and have almost done it in BDSP and Arceus, but I don't care about ScarVi's dex at all), and I haven't even bought the DLC yet. Tbh I'm probably not even gonna pre-order this, I'm waiting till it's out to decide if I want to buy it or not.
Anyway sorry to be a buzzkill, I don't fault anyone for being excited, I've loved Pokemon for more than half my life, it helped me meet my fiancé, it really means so SO much to me, so I get it, but like....I think I love the series too much to get excited for this. Seeing what Pokemon is turning into is just...painful and sad. I hope y'all enjoy it tho, and who knows, I could be wrong, maybe it will be fantastic and super polished and we can all breathe a sigh of relief bcs they got their shit together! That would be nice.
Edit: I do want to say I'm glad it has been 3 years instead of the usual 2, and I'm VERY glad they didn't announce gen 10, but unless the scope of this game is narrow as fuck and they also don't release until like November-December 2025 AND this team was NOT the same team who worked on ScarVi's DLC that is still not enough time to make a game with the scope they've been establishing as their new baseline. TOTK took SIX years to finish. Elden Ring's DLC was built on top of an existing game and it still took TWO whole years just to make it. Most open-world games take a really, really long time. Adding an extra year is great, but they need to be taking a lot longer than that between games. This is a step in the right direction, but it's not enough to inspire confidence.

can we not make fun of other systems? please?
please.
got called delusional for an opinion I don't have. for trauma I *do* have. screenshotted something I had said on reddit without censoring the username or anything and used the opportunity to bash on reddit in general. implied every single person who uses reddit thinks they're better than everyone else. then blocked me when I replied with their post to clarify and apologize.
i was already overwhelmed by just... existing, earlier. now it's worse.
for the record:
- i do not think systems with insys dating are doing anything wrong, nor is it incestuous. I'm happy for y'all, I genuinely think that's wonderful and I'm glad you're happy /gen
- i personally do not have any in my system, and have trauma responses to the idea of that happening *in our system*. not in other systems.
- selfcest trauma is real, even if selfcest isn't. being shown explicit selfcest material as a child when two of you are fictives of the same character *that that material is of* fucks you up.
- you can use reddit and be normal. I use it every once in a while to see different experiences people have with DID, or to vent. or to post about games i like. I do think most of reddit is pretty bad, I agree with the gist of that sentiment. but not every single person who uses reddit or goes on r/DID thinks they're superior and better than everyone else. somebody had asked a question about little to none insys dating, I answered with my unique experience, read through other answers i thought were interesting. normal stuff.
i am a pretty abnormal system myself. part of the charm is seeing how varied we all are as a community.
can we not like... do. this. please. thanks. I know (again) that the person this post is about won't see it since they blocked me and that's fine. but it's nice to have a reminder that life is weird and systems are weird and not everyone conforms to what you think is normal or a normal trauma response, and sometimes you only think someone has an opinion because........ you assume they have that opinion. even if they don't.
I ended up deleting my original comment on reddit because the reply saying they were ethically against insys dating "as well" rubbed me the wrong way and made me feel gross. so thanks for letting me see that comment I guess. not so much thanks for assuming I agreed with them.
I feel gross.

"megazardx2: I’m so glad you enjoyed it, especially since you didn’t like the Gen 7 games much at all. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!"
Then this is as good a time as any! Pokemon Sun and Moon anime thoughts, as much as I can stuff in there.
As mentioned in my last recap, the only history I have with the anime is vague recollections from the original seasons, and XY which we watched just before this. And of them, Sun and Moon pretty quickly got itself into top spot. I really like the friend group, and I think Ash works best as just some kid with the others. It feels much more natural to him than the big hero thing of XY, which was overplayed and frankly silly.
This hasn't really gone anywhere. The friend group remains the strongest aspect, I love them. Mallow's probably the favorite of the bunch, but there's not a single one I disliked. Lillie and Sophocles precious, Kiawe and Lana are hilarious, Mallow just vibes the hardest with how I am as a person so like...I get it girl. Even Team Rocket was far more tolerable this season, back to being mostly ineffectual villains with more mild goals and significantly fewer war crimes committed. Bewear helps a lot. I think the decision to swap out their old blasting off routine to Bewear's myriad entries was divine.
Nanu and Acerola had a great little arc. They were a ton of fun while present. I didn't really click with Olivia but she's fine. Same with Hala, who felt like he could've done more. I did wind up liking Hapu, which is very unexpected. Faba's alright, Wicke doesn't really do much, and I have many thoughts, none of them particularly nice, about Lusamine. That leaves the last two clusters.
Kukui and Burnet are a delight. They're adorable, they're hilarious, big fan all around. I am very glad they ditched Kukui's secret just before the final match, I don't know if I would've been able to stomach it through that. The Masked Royal thing was always a bit goofy, and this is naturally no exception. But their whole dynamic is cute.
Guzma. Ooooh Guzma. You got hit with the same bat as Lusamine. From a character in the main games with a lot of going on that you could infer, to...literally just some pissbaby loser who's mad he can't win. Dude, this is like the least compelling villain story. I do like the attempt to use Golisopod as a sort of showcasing of that same mentality, but it's a nice artistic touch on a generally bad approach. I do not like Team Skull at all in this. Or, for that matter, Ilima. Who I legitimately forgot about until this moment. Ilima just doesn't do much of anything. Oh, he's just soft-spoken and nice and talented and all the ladies love him. Sure. But he's no Ryuki. Who wins the award for funniest one-shot character in the series.
The Ultra Beast episodes were solid. I generally like the idea behind it. It's goofy, but it fits functionally. I don't strictly mind why they function in the way they do, but I'd be lying if I said the explanation being "It's the kid in Lusamine coming out" didn't rub me the wrong way given everything else about her character. Mostly I think what the anime nails are character moments. Sophocles getting over his fears and starting to appreciate battles, Mallow getting established as a talented chef in her own right with a strength in reading people's wants, Lana being...genuinely just talented at everything? Like, girl doesn't get enough time to shine because they often pass it off to Kiawe or Ash, but she's legitimately good at like everything they wind up doing.
The tournament was...interesting. I wasn't sure how much I'd like it, given how quickly they belted through top 16 and top 8. But admittedly? It works. It truncates a lot into the critical moments. Watching XY, the battles could be interesting, but often it's sort of a...going through the motions? Like okay, yes, Ash vs Sawyer was generally a good time, but there were plenty of matchups that amount to very little in the grand scheme. Ash vs. Alain, I would be willing to argue, is largely forgettable. Nothing all that interesting happens until the final Greninja vs. Charizard matchup, but I don't really respect Charizard, and I hate Ash Greninja, so it's not like I cared. But it's telling that the entire match and all the episodes in it could've been boiled down to about those 5 minutes with little lost in terms of impact or importance.
I think that's what Sun and Moon nailed best in this arc. The battles are just the parts that matter. Ash's Rowlet has one real rival, and that's Hau's Decidueye. Just do those two, and it's a nice, condensed fight. That ends kinda lame because man it really kinda feels like Hau should've won that, or they should've waited to call it a while so it didn't feel like taking something from him. Mallow has low confidence in her battling and tries to shy away from a battle she expects to lose, and Lana calls on her to make an effort. We only need the one Pokemon for that. Sophocles is learning to put his all into battles and wants to stand his ground against Kiawe, and again, we can do that in one. We need a showing of Guzma being a vicious trainer in how he battles, and boy do you get the point in the 1v1 with Lana. They do really well at linking up just the emotional connection part of the battle. Even in 2v2 matches this holds, as they quickly get to Kiawe's ace in Turtonator, and eliminate Scizor in two seconds for a story beat. It's well done! Even Kukui and Ash, which is a much longer fight, leads off the the big emotional showdown of Torracat vs. Incineroar, but both are recalled before a victor is decided leaving you waiting for the return and how that'll play out. Even after that, they manage to pivot into Tapu Koko vs. Pikachu, which was another battle that needed to finish (though I am slightly sad we don't know Kukui's actual sixth Pokemon).
The Pokemon just feel like they have real connections, not just within their team but with their rivalries. Which is...more than I can say for XY. Every major rivalry in Pokemon was Greninja vs. someone else's ace. None of that team mattered otherwise. They had cute dynamics, I really liked Hawlucha and Noivern. But what role did Talonflame play once it evolved? It ceased to matter. Why bring Goodra back? Ash just needed a sixth Pokemon, no other reason. Comparatively, when Naganadel comes back, it doesn't have a strict rival, but it's the first time it's battling and it came back through dimensions to see them again, and you get how much that means. This season did really well with connection and emotional impact for pretty much everyone involved, and it did it in a cute slice of life-y way rather than trying to big up drama to make someone matter. Which I generally vibe with a lot more.
I'm trying to think of other things to talk about but am kinda running dry. I'm sleepy, we did a lot of chores. The point is, Sun and Moon was really good. Big fan. Unfortunately, my wife and I discussed where to go next. And we have reached consensus. My wife never watched anything before this. And Journeys is more of a recap thing from all accounts, visiting characters and places from everywhere. So we will, unfortunately, be going all the way back to the beginning. I have acquired veto power over episodes if I remember them sucking shit. The original Kanto stuff is only two seasons, so hopefully this will go quickly, but from here it's sequential. I think the intent is to actually go through everything. Brace for impact. And salt. Because save for exactly five episodes I look back upon fondly, I don't know how I'm going to tolerate original Ash, or Brock and Misty.

So here's my problem with modern Pokemon. Yes, this is my boomer-ass genwunner rant, finally realised and in the flesh.
So ever since gen 6, Pokemon as a franchise has relied a lot on redesigning old Pokemon and adding gimmicks to the gameplay loop. I'm talking about Mega Evolutions and Dynamax, but I'm also talking about regional variants. As much as the team make new Pokemon every gen, they rehash old Pokemon with a new coat of paint.
And that's fine. I don't have beef with any of that. Perfectly neutral, and frankly some of the new forms are badass.
But I think gen 9 has come to a head with that.
Much like prior gens, Paldea has Pokemon like Wiglett that rehash old Pokemon designs. There's a land-walking Tentacool, there's Clodsire etc. etc. Wiglett is explicitly calling back to Diglett in a new context. Clodsire is explicitly Quagsire but Different. You couldn't argue that these new Pokemon aren't specifically calling back to older Pokemon designs - and it's cute and fun and all that. Game Freak does design throwbacks like that. That's not inherently an issue.
But this time, Wiglett and Clodsire and all of the throwback Pokemon are actual, new, registered Pokemon. Like, Alolan Raichu is its own thing, but it's not called like Umichu and given its own Pokedex number - it's understood that there's an evolutionary difference between Pikachu that's native to places like Kanto, Johto, Hoenn etc. and Alola. It's Alolan Raichu.
They took Diglett, made it into a barnacle, gestured wildly at it and went "look it's Diglett as a barnacle!!!" and made it a new Pokemon.
I feel like these new Pokemon go past the point of homage - because I would argue that those other gimmicks like mega evolution and regional variants are a form of homage. It's covering old ground, but it's being cute about it. But with Wiglett and all that, they're actually padding the Paldean Pokedex. "OoOoOoOoOoHhHhH it's a NeW sPeCiEs~~~~~~~~", meanwhile it's indistinguishable from a regional variant of Diglett, or Tentacool, or Quagsire from an older game. It's explicitly a throwback in the style of regional variants, except it's been labelled as a distinct, seperate entity for what feels like a completely arbitrary and creatively bankrupt reason.
That being said? I understand that Game Freak are overworked, and they're churning out crap like Scarlet/Violet on development time-frames that are less than a year. And I know that's a contentious and facetious opinion - it's less that Paldea is Bad, and more that the games were completely unoptimised and underbaked, even with the bold new open-world direction and inspired new gameplay elements that the games introduce. Paldea is fine, but the games themselves are these awful products of corporate greed and crunch, and you can blatantly see the seams.
Game Freak made that game in maybe a year or two, probably beginning pre-production during the development of Legends Arceus to lock down the design and aesthetic of Paldea and then entering full production after Legends came out. I'm not a game dev, I'm just speculating, but if that's true, S/V was in full production for less than a year. And when you're under the crunch like that, with a franchise that's been recycling old designs for years, you're gonna hit a point where you either take more of the critically short dev time to make up some new pokedudes or you do the same song and dance of dressing up mutton as lamb.
So like I can understand why this might have happened. I'm not crossing my arms and throwing a tantrum at the devs; S/V genuinely seem hellish in the way that they were developed.
But I still don't think Pokemon like Wiglett and Clodsire should count as their own Pokemon. I think it's a product of crunch, but I still think it's a bullshit decision. They're so, so clearly regional variants. And like - I think they should exist in any and all facets that they can exist in, it's not that I'm decrying their entire existence. I just don't think they deserve to be a new Pokemon when they're clearly a homage to Pokemon that came before, like with a new mega evolution or a regional variant. And I find the fact that they do qualify as their own distinct new Pokemon to be creatively bankrupt and extremely cynical on behalf of the Pokemon Company.
Detractors have been throwing the idea of "Game Freak running out of ideas" around for years. We've all seen bullshit hater kvetching about the ice cream Pokemon and the car key Pokemon and the trash Pokemon, and we've seen the counter-argument of older Pokemon with bullshit designs etc. etc. I don't go for that, and I never have. I'm not a fuckin Klefki rabble-rouser.
But Diglett and Wiglett being legally, textually distinct Pokemon with their own seperate Pokedex number is bullshit, right? Like it's not controversial to say that these are just elevated regional variants that are bizarrely and cynically considered new Pokemon for the sake of padding and not on their own merits, right? They're fine designs, I'm not saying they shouldn't exist, but having the games go "This is Quagsire, and this is Quagsire's Paldean cousin Clodsire, and they're different :)" after years of toying with the idea of regional variants is just bullshit. It's actual, unabashed bullshit.
That's my boomer-ass genwunner Pokemon rant. The fact that Paldean regional variants are considered entirely new, original and fresh Pokemon for the sake of filling out the Paldean Pokedex is a lazy, cynical decision - and it may have a sympathetic motivation, but it doesn't make the decision any less bullshit. I've always been a flexible Pokemon fan, I haven't been a hater up until now, but this is bullshit.

What do you think of All Stars and how the writers handled the characters?
Now, I don’t know how much of a hot-take this is, but I don’t find All Stars that uniquely bad, at least for Total Drama. Unjust eliminations and lost potential? I’m a Noah stan who had to watch I See London, and then see Blaineley take his place. Villain that nobody votes out despite the obvious? I’ve watched Heather dodge elimination after elimination in Island and World Tour alike. Random evil mental disorder? That’s just Trent in Action, baby. All Stars is more of the same bad writing, just cranked up a little higher and all at once. But it’s still the same bad writing. Tho, I may be a little biased here. Not because I like All Stars, I don’t - but I knew how bad it was before I watched it. I had seen the rants about every major plot point before I watched a single episode. So I never had hopes for the thing. Perhaps that explains my detachment during viewing. And I'm gonna be honest - I *don’t* have strong feelings on most gen 1 characters, so it’s hard for me to work up the passion about their character derailment.
But if you still want my specific thoughts on each character:
Courtney: As one of the few gen 1 characters I do care about, I should probably be more mad about Suddy Muddy Sundae then I actually am. But uhhh. I actually like it when Courtney is evil and mean, lol. So the idea of her betraying a close friend? That’s funky, that’s cool - in isolation, that is. In the context of the show, it doesn’t really work. There’s no foreshadowing to the twist, there’s no gradual darkening of her character. It’s just “And Now Courtney does something Evil.” Great. My condolences to anyone who watched this show blind and thought they were getting a character development arc. Probably felt like a slap in the face. But out of context, the idea isn’t that bad.
It's like that Game of Thrones thing, with Daenarys going evil. Could it believably happen? Sure. But should it have happened so fast? NO.
Gwen: ... Ehh. I think this season was trying to redeem her from WT. That's why she's trying so hard to apologize, that’s why Gwuncan breaks up. And that’s why Gwen says "he wasn't your boyfriend.” I don’t think she was trying to lie, but that the writers wanted us to genuinely believe that, retcon style. But overall, she was fine. A little weird, because WHY is she trying so hard to makeup to Courtney, the girl she was barely friends with? WHY would she ever go back to Total Drama, the show that she hates being on, just for the girl that wasn’t even that good to her in the first place? That’s weird. But “character derailment,” is a lot easier to swallow when it makes the character a nicer person, isn’t it? Also the joke in the beginning where she's the only villain character trying to be sincere and help the team is pretty funny.
Aleheather: I’m grouping them together because they’re very similar people. Evil, conniving villain that no-one really trusts because they’ve seen it all before. They do both get more stupid in AS (why would Heather just leave the victory idol? and why does Alejandro not like... do more with the Mal plotline). But they’re still funny in their own rights. But as a ship, they were disappointing. I think that's because the writers did not know what to do with them after they got together. Which tbf, isn't just a TD problem. A lot of stories end when the characters get together. The romantic plotline is fulfilled. So what are you supposed to do in the sequel, when the Will-They/Won't-They is done? What now? TD's answer was just to pretend that their romantic arc WASN’T finished. So now they're back to hate-flirting, in the exact same way they did in WT. I think a person who cared more about Aleheather (@tdsierra) would probably have a lot more to say about the ship in All Stars, that might even contradict what I say here. But this is all I have to say on them.
Duncan: I don't hate him in AS. I think the whole "no one can know im a nice person," although exaggerated in AS, is true to Duncan as a character. He always had a masculinity so fragile a tap-dancing ant could break it. So whatever, I guess. Probably didn’t help that the girlfriends who used to boost his ego - Courtney and Gwen, left him behind. Tbh, he might be the best written character on All Stars. His ending of blowing up Chris’s house and going to jail does feel odd though. It’s such a sad end to his character. In TDI he was growing to open up, but in AS he’s so defensive that he ends up in jail. I don’t think it’s a bad ending persay, that he regressed. But it’s definitely sad to see. Also the bird he was friends with was ridiculously cute. I love that bird.
Sierra: Gonna be honest, although she is very different in AS - (in a like, psychosis way, when she never had them before) I don't know if I'd call it "character derailment," that she’s still obssessed with Cody and still a creep. Because honestly, I don’t think she ever stopped being one. We’ve never seen her acknowledge her actions as wrong, nor has she apologized/promised to do better. Even in the episode in WT where she accepts being Cody's best friend, she also tries to kiss him again. Perhaps this is the true hot take - Sierra never underwent character development in the first place. I also don't understand why she's on the Hero's team. Was it *heroic* when she stole Cody's underwear? Was it? Did the writers just put her there so as to even the numbers? Or did they buy into the idea that Sierra is a good person, despite being a stalker, because stalkers act out of “love,” and she always just wanted to “protect him.” And therefore, she’s a hero. But perhaps it’s just that she’s not a standard villain. All TD villains are in it for the money and have master-ish plans, while Sierra... does not. I guess that’s close enough to being a hero for AS team designations. Anyway, Sierra should have been cut from AS all together. Nothing here adds to her character, she didn’t belong on the heroes team. [However, if they put her on the villains team and she had to grapple with the idea that her actions were evil and terrible and learn from that... honestly could have been a baller redemption arc.]
Lindsay: Whatever. She was there for one episode, what do you want me to say? Lol. I guess I could say that I don't think she was "character derailed" (she has voted for herself before, and has been bad at voting, so I don’t think it’s OOC for her to vote for herself.
SECOND GEN
Sam - I agree he should have been replaced with Brick. He doesn’t have anything to do this season. It is touching that he wants to be a mutant to be with his mutant gf though.
Jo - they did her such a disservice im crying thats my girl!!!! like she was such a cool character who had obvious development that needed to happen, and then they just chose not to. It's so weird. Especially when Cameron is on the show, and there's already a history between them. They could work smth out! Or not, but still. And if Brick was indeed on the show - that's another avenue for development! I love Jo, and she was still funny on AS but... they should have taken the chance to flesh her out. But they didn’t.
Honestly, the 2nd gen characters deserved more focus. And I'm not talking about Mike and Zoey, but Lightning and Jo. 1st gen had 3 whole seasons already to flex, but 2nd gen had only one shortened season. As such, maybe focusing on them would have been better.
Lightning: Man also deserved better. He was very funny though. But still.
Scott: This one's weird, because AS Scott is funny, but he is also a completely different person from ROTI Scott. I don't know what I would change about AS Scott, other than make him more like ROTI Scott. Also maybe he and Cameron could have teamed up to expose Mal, considering Scott also has experience with Mike's Alters.
Cameron: why did they make you so stupid. and why was he not able to expose Mal earlier? why? i did like the scene where he used Scott as bait for Fang tho. That was really funny. And I always wished Cameron had ended up as the Villain of ROTI, so it was gratifying.
Mike - ugh. Using his DID as his only plot point was bad enough in ROTI, but to also use it as the main plot of AS? Really guys. Read the room. Also, they were wrong about alters, and as multiple people have said, Mal should have been more of a protective alter, rather than just evil for the sake of it. But I think Mike was always a kind of boring character because his main/fronting alter is Mike. And Mike's just a boring guy. I feel like TDI was trying to do the activist thing where "people with X can still be good people!" and so you get the blandest characters. Think of the Love, Simon movie. "im such a normal guy EXCEPT im gay." that's the vibe with Mike. "im a normal guy EXCEPT i have DID." to prove that people with DID can be "normal." But it stops the character from being interesting, and also... is *normal* the thing we need to be aiming for? There's a lot of interesting discourse around that, but that's not important for this post, lol.
Zoey - she's Zoey. She wasn't a great character to start with and she's not a great character now. And she's also very stupid - Mal has that effect on people. It's hard to have strong feelings on a character you never cared about in the first place.
Overall I'd say that TD had a bad vision of making their most "evil" villain yet, and what makes a villain frightening is how much power they have over their victims... but the victims were all capable people who had won survival shows and were known for being smart and/or athletic. And instead of taking that into account and writing the villain better, they just... forced all the victims to be stupider.
I think they should have written All Stars as a “wrap up loose character development season,” instead of coming up with a mega villain plot. Because total drama fans are in it for the Characters more than anything else. So just focus on growing them, and people would have been happy.

And finally for the redesigned/reworked Winx Club next-gen kiddos, we have Tecna and Timmy's kids! I am so happy to finally have finished all of these guys and gotten the chance to work with them again, as like stated on some of the other posts it has been entirely too long and I feel bad for neglecting them for such a long time. The focus for this project was mainly on the children of the main Winx fairies, however I do want to eventually do these for the rest of my Main Universe kiddos, especially because there are some newer character concepts I never got around to introducing before. But, I hope you guys have enjoyed what I have worked on so far!
Here is some more info and notes for these three kiddos!
================================================
- Eleanor "Ellie": 16 years old, daughter and oldest child of Tecna and Timmy, older fraternal twin to Theo. Citizen of Zenith, and Fairy of Electricity. Tallish height, slim and petite build, chin-length and straight light brown hair with bangs, teal eyes, pale skin, freckles across her fair, cat-eye shaped glasses, prosthetic left forearm. Life at the beginning was hard for Ellie and her brother, as they were born missing part of one of their limbs; part of her arm for Ellie and part of his leg for Theo. It was a little easier in the sense that they were born that way instead of having to adjust to it, but that does not mean that it was not still difficult for them, especially as some of the other kids their age did not know how to act appropriately around them. Eventually they were made custom upgraded prosthetics by their parents, and have adjusted to them just fine with all their fancy functions. Inspired from her parents Ellie is a young genius in her own right too, having a knack for building and fixing machinery like them and always has all her electronics completely customized by her. She is more of a meek and shy kind of person, having some troubles talking in front of others so she usually saves that job for her teammates to save herself the awkwardness. One of the only people who can bring out more of her relaxed playful side is Theo, as they have been through a lot together and are naturally very close, with them sometimes putting their nubs in each other's face to playfully annoy the other.
- Theodore "Theo": 16 years old, son and middle child of Tecna and Timmy, younger fraternal twin to Ellie. Citizen of Zenith, and a specialist at Red Fountain. Tall height, toned build, chin-length magenta hair that is pushed to the side with an undercut, yellowish green eyes, pale skin, left ear pierced, rectangular-shaped glasses, prosthetic right lower-leg. As he was born without part of his right leg, he had more of a difficult time than Ellie at the beginning as it was hard for him to walk. He had to use mobility aids for a while before he got his prosthetic, and though he rarely has complications nowadays as he is able to train and perform Specialist duties with ease, there are still somedays where it is hard for him. In contrast to his parents and twin, Theo is a very expressive and sociable person, who loves to try and connect with any potential new friend. Though he puts on a cheerful act, he still has a lot of insecurities deep down that tend to make him more of a people-pleaser as he desperately craves other people's genuine respect and approval. Though not quite to the inventive side, he is just as much of a big nerd as the rest of his family, mainly for video game competitions as he is very competitive at those. A little naive when it comes to figuring out if people are messing with him or not, though he is usually quick to figure it out before anything gets too far.
- Lara: 14 years old, daughter and youngest child of Tecna and Timmy. Citizen of Zenith, and future Witch of Chemicals. Short height, slim build, slightly past chin-length salmony-orange hair, hazel eyes, fair skin. Born very sickly and premature, she has always been one of the shortest girls of her peers despite coming from such a tall family. This used to cause a lot of insecurity for her, but overtime she has learned not to focus on it too much, instead focusing on other things that set her apart in a positive manner. Resourceful and a quick-thinker, thus she tends to be the calmest in stressful situations than either of her older siblings. Like the rest of her family she is naturally very smart and a bit of a nerd, but in her case it is more for science subjects, especially for chemistry as it is her favorite to study. A bit of a late bloomer when it comes to magic, she only just discovered her magic core and is the last of her friends to do so. Though she still has a lot to study and learn before she can attend Cloud Tower in the next couple of years, together with her best friends Gaia and Cassie she is excited for the day they all gain their transformations and get to attend school in Magix together.

Put this in Splatoon 2 last night (and then someone else found me!) Please excuse the bad...handwriting? I did it with the joycons on a controller. I’m not used to writing that way.
For real though, the angst is starting to take Submas away from me. I was a fan before PLA, and the constant barrage of angst makes me feel like I can’t enjoy something I once did. Submas was something I enjoyed because canonically they were just running the Battle Subway and nothing else, and there wasn’t much angst in fan content (on here anyway). It was helpful to have something like that to get a break from stress and things IRL.
Here comes my experiences and opinions.
First of all, gatekeeping is stupid and I’m not trying to do that here. People are going to make the content they want of they characters they want, and I’m not telling anyone to stop because that’s not my place. Notice how this isn’t a “Stop the angst!” post? It’s just me talking about personally being tired of it and I recognize it is my responsibility to find or even create content I would enjoy. If you’re into the angst or even s*xyman stuff, I’m not calling you out or telling you to stop. But if you think that I am and send me messages putting words in my mouth/message about things I’m not saying, or try to start an argument, I’m not going to respond.
PLA came out, and it’s bad enough that PLA doesn’t give answers or an ending. But then there was a resurgence in Submas fans, and so many of them jumped on the angst, making a canonically sad situation sadder, or in some cases, as sad as possible...There also have been some problematic depictions reemerging (often just with different context than in the early 2010s).
It’s to the point where I don’t seek out Submas content because it’s hard to find content that is just fun or slice of life. Sometimes you see this kind of content with PLA Ingo...but I don’t want to see PLA Ingo. I want to see Ingo back where he belongs. It’s been over a month since I last played PLA (I finished it other than rematches) because I was burnt out on it in general as well as the lack of conclusion and confirmation that Ingo would be OK. But the angst has been burning me out far more than the actual game, and far faster than the actual game did. Even if I find one art post depicting Submas from 5th Gen, I have to scroll through a bunch of content I don’t want to see along the way. I don’t need to see post after post of angsty headcanons. I don’t need to see multiple alternate universes where Ingo died anachronistically in Hisui and the aftermath of Emmet finding out. I don’t need to see Emmet sobbing or acting extremely unhinged and out of character.
I’ve now seen at least two Submas things in Inkopolis Square in Splatoon 2. Neither were angst, but they made me feel anxious anyway because of everything I’ve seen since PLA, even when I don’t go looking for Submas content. It often gets recommended to me on sites now, jammed into my feed without any way for me to opt out.
Tbh I’m starting to wonder how many people are going to stay on the Submas train if a DLC comes out and Ingo goes home, we get confirmation he does in a future game, or he’s just in a future game with Emmet and is OK with no references to or indication that the events of PLA even happened to him. Or even if we don’t and we just move into Gen 9, into a post-PLA era. Or if Gen 9 has a different s*xyman (or if one emerges elsewhere and takes this site by storm). I know that a lot of people genuinely like Submas and angst; this isn’t about them. This is about the people who have said they just came here for the angst (I've seen this), the people who romanticize being unwell and think Ingo got a “glow up” because he now looks disheveled and miserable (I’ve seen this too), and people who would not have taken interest in Ingo/Submas if Ingo had not been in PLA the way he is. If Ingo is canonically fine later, how many of these people will stay when the angst train derails? If another s*xyman drops, how many of these people will stay?
Again, I’m not trying to gatekeep. I guess I’m just wondering how many people got into Submas for the potential of a sad story and angsty fan content, in turn making a majority of the content angst, and making it hard for those of us who didn’t want it, and are going to move on the second that potential is gone, has run its course, or another “sad” character is introduced.
In the meantime, I have to keep doing what I’ve been doing; avoiding the tags, avoiding most content, and if it gets too bad, I might have to start blocking even tags.
It just hurts to have something I enjoyed taken from me by other people who enjoy the same thing.

I feel like being toxic so here’s all the reasons I don’t like Ranboo as a creator 💗
1. He’s got that tiktok taint. I respect the grind but honest to god I can’t divorce their content from his primary audience, which is chronically online tiktok teens, and I’m simply not about that.
2. They talk too much. Not everything needs a commentary my guy! Let shit breathe. I tried watching a play through of his and I lasted about five minutes. It was a genuinely good game but they were just relentless with sarcastic, bad faith commentary, and they missed major character beats and fun bonus content because of it! Not everything’s about you and your sardonics. Be quiet.
3. None of their character work is examined by the narrative. Ranboo’s characters have good bones. They have fun, interesting concepts. But literally none of it matters because none of them experience lasting, meaningful consequence. This does not mean bad things don’t happen to them. It means they don’t experience lasting consequences. You can be three years old and smash your rag doll against the wall, and that can be genuinely rough and upsetting to watch, but the next day both the doll and the three year old will be fine, and it will happen all over again, and again, and again. There is an inescapable woe-is-me victim mentality I-have-no-agency-or-control-boo-hoo ness to So Many of his fucking characters and I can’t stand it. STAND UP!!
4. He doesn’t finish anything. How long have y’all been waiting for Gen Loss? It’s been so damn long you started making it yourself. L.
5. They’re American. Now to be fair they can’t help this and this is far more personal to me, but it takes A Lot for me to like American creators. Y’all inundate the entertainment industry and have created a vice-like monopoly on it. I’ve had American voices in my ears from babyhood and it’s hard not to be a little resentful about that.

gen 5 is so good i'm so glad it's getting the love it deserves in current day. bc holy shit being a unova fan like. 5-6 years ago sucked ass bc ppl would always talk about how trash it was and like. was it rlly?? they keep mention the pokedex but it's fine?? gen 2's pokedex is so *so* much worse. it feels like gen 5 was way ahead it's time bc you can rlly tell pokemon fans were *not* ready for something new and gen 5 was something new. this is why i also defend gen 7 w/ my life bc it was also something new (lack of gyms and the first one to handle evil teams differently) and why i'm worried for gen 9 bc it also does a lot of new things. also i don't think the anime helped gen 5's case much. however i can't hate it bc the gen 5 anime is what introduced me to pokemon (another reason why gen 5 is my beloved)
i know the war between regions is kind of old news at this point but it hasnt left, just changed. remember when everyone hated kalos when it came out only to be begging for it to come back a few years later? its already happening with galar.
there are valid reasons to hate gen 9 so far (let it be known the game was very much unfinished + we've had to wait MONTHS for home compatibility when it really should've been there in the first place) but i think sometimes the fandom needs to take a step back and go "is my hatred of this region because of a genuine flaw of the region, a personal opinion, or because its not something im used to" because different doesnt mean bad. legarc is a pretty large departure from pokemon games as we know it and everyone loves that.

I've completed the PokéDex (pictures of my certificate to follow once I'm back in my house with my Switch).
Ranking of characters since I've done mostly everything now I've even finished "post game".
Top Tier:
Arven aka the only character this game actually needed. Arven is great, his storyline is touching and directly relevant to the overall plot and I felt the friendship we built with Arven felt more real. His backstory is basically N and Lillie from Gen 5 and 7 (aka bad parents) but with this particular gen and characters twist I'll give Game Freak this it's one storyline they can actually consistently pull off. I didn't like how despite the plot being about him the game likes to sideline him as much as possible much to its detriment.
Larry. Purely because he's so relatable, he's the only Gym Leader I gave a shit about, someone let this man rest. Let him eat his food and chill with his normal types.
Mid Tier:
Penny. Honestly she's low LOW mid tier but I'm putting her here purely because I hate someone else more and I couldn't justify putting Penny in the same tier as them. Penny's story makes no sense, there's absolutely zero reason for us, a random new transfer student, to get involved with Team Star or Penny at all. The fact they apparently stick so closely to their rules that they'd be willing to disband and go back to the school where they were bullied relentlessly purely because one kid beat them in a Pokémon battle is dumb and quite frankly the whole plotline felt entirely pointless and unconnected to the rest of the game. Also Penny once she's down in the crater with the other characters has probably my least favourite line in the game when she complains about having a father that actually cares about her RIGHT AFTER ARVEN TOLD THEM HIS BACKSTORY OF NEGLECT AT THE HANDS OF HIS PARENT.
The Director. I'll admit he grew on me. I found him super creepy at first but he got better. At no point did I think he was great but I grew to not hate when he was on screen.
The rest of the Gym Leaders. They were there, they exist, I have little opinions one way or the other on them they just sort of exist and weren't particularly difficult to beat even though I deliberately did the intentional 8th gym as number 6 (I sequence broke this game so bad, like I managed to finish the game with Arven's last Titan purely because I knew he had the best plot and that it directly led into the final plot).
The Team Star bosses. Boring, forgetful, wished I could skip all their cutscenes after the first one honestly. Dark Type guy had the best design and backstory of the lot of them but the game forgets about them way too soon after that storyline ends.
The teachers. I didn't do the classroom shit because if I want to play a school simulator I'll play Persona. BUT the parts I've seen of them they were fine, I think I'd like most of them at the very least better than the characters I've ranked below.
The "Sarah hated having you on screen tier":
Nemona. She's bad. I hate the implication she's holding back throughout the game because she's already champion rank. That could have worked if her final battle was difficult but honestly she's one of the easiest rivals I've ever faced. I hated how she was still hyperfixating on Pokémon battles while Arven is basically going through family hell, I don't think she was relevant to the final plot at all and you could easily have cut her and Penny from that section and you wouldn't really notice the difference. I never felt like we were actually friends with Nemona, I felt like she just sort of decided we were going to be her pet project for that summer vacation and we didn't really get a say in it, all im saying is after Hop and Hau's genuine attempts at giving friendly rivals actual character development this was a major downgrade. Also every time Arven calls her annoying he's 100% correct. I have one more major issue with Nemona but that ties into the next character im going to talk about.
Geeta. AWFUL. Worst Champion. Firstly why the fuck does Nemona idolise her so much if Nemona herself is supposedly also a Champion rank trainer? They should at the very least view each other as equals in skill, I'd argue Nemona was better although neither are beating previous Champions for difficulty, Cynthia and Steven would wipe the floor with these two. But seriously why in the post game am I allowing Geeta to boss me around like she's so much better than me when I've wiped her whole team out with like 2 Pokémon twice now? Why is she still allowed to call herself a Champion when she's clearly been beat multiple times? It diminishes the rank. I don't feel special for becoming Champion now because apparently we all get to just be Champion. Also Geeta is just annoying, I don't like her at all, she feels controlling and unworthy of her station and plthe power she seems to hold in Paldea.
The "Sarah really doesn't have an opinion" tier:
The Elite Four. The game didn't care about them so why should I. Can't even re-battle them. Ground type member was hot, that's about it.
Now this is MY list, I am aware most of the fans of this game won't agree especially with my opinions on Nemona but frankly I don't care. I didn't particularly like this game, even removing the bugs I think there was some glaring design flaws that held the story and the characters back from being able to really shine. I personally felt the characters in SwSh and Arceus just felt more real, they were more likeable and a lot of them had actual character development which just feels missing in ScVi for me. So anyway if I've missed a character assume I either didn't like them or didn't care about them cause I've clearly not cared enough to remember them.
