I don't know why but there's something about SNW's cinematography that's off-putting to me. This is purely personal reasons and it's what is honestly keeping me from really engaging with the show.

I think the memory loss Erika Ortegas episode is the one episode that I truly connected with emotionally.

It's a weird ME thing. I'm as baffled as anyone else that cinematography and color grading is having this much of an effect on emotionally engaging in the show.

This is the continuing adventure of why I feel so emotionally disconnected from SNW.

Were you the person from this post? That's the most recent leaping crystal related ask I remember, and it was around the time I shared the uquiz (and thank you! Sophie seems to be one of the popular responses, which is excellent because I love her character). If not that's okay, I'm just trying to get a better sense of what your question is! And apologies for forgetting, I try not to but it happens from time to time.

Either way, before I can try helping, I'm going to need a bit more clarity on what you're confused about. There's a lot about leaping crystals that could be confusing, so I'm unsure what exactly it is that you'd want my help with! Is there a specific detail that doesn't make sense or is it the concept as a whole? Just a general direction would be helpful because being confused can mean a lot of things!! could be pathfinders, could be the different light sources, could be how concentration works, or how it affects different species!

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? i don't really like when people say dungeon meshi is accidentally good autistic representation, because while i understand not wanting to make conclusions without explicit confirmation from the author, there's always the weird assumption that non-western authors somehow don't know about things like neurodivergency/queerness/etc. (on top of the assumptions that east asian authors are somehow more naive or oblivious to "western" social issues).

given that dungeon meshi started being published in 2014, it's not really a "work belonging to its times"—it's as contemporary as any other media we discuss on this site, which means it should be fair to assume it engages with contemporary topics (and at the very least, you shouldn't say that the representation is accidental with so much confidence)

but anyways, the chapter "perfect communication" in ryoko kui's "terrarium in a drawer" is some of the most straightforward autistic representation I've seen, and from now on I'm going to assume that laios's character writing is absolutely intentional in that regard:
