something something catch me thinking how archer feels such deep kinship with houndooms because they are (in my hc's) hated and feared by many people and the most often abandoned/neglected pokemon in johto because they look cool but are very difficult to train. but once you know what you're doing and have patience to build a bond with them, they'll be the most loyal creatures in the world.

because he loves you. because he adores you. because you're his favorite mutt.

do you even remember how to bite properly? because your muzzle is getting loose, boy, and you keep barking, and barking, and barking and growling and snarling and letting the other dogs tear apart the prey.

your muzzle is getting comfortable. too comfortable. you pull it, make sure it's not comfortable anymore.

it is endlessly amusing how those on the outside picture it. there's no need to blame them for it, either. such misconceptions are easy to draw. just a handler and his loyal-to-death attack dog. how could there be any other way to see it? how could it run deeper than what remains on the surface?

there is no leash dangling on the muzzle. there's no need for one, a loyal beast will always heel beside the one he respects most, but only when that respect is returned. the mutual understanding between them runs deep, how else could he read those commands with a brief glance and a nod? it is a privilege to know someone so closely, when most others see him as something dark and twisted.

the only enemy within these walls are his own teeth that dig into his arm hard enough to pierce the skin, the blood spilling onto the desk, unable to bear the weight of the failures of the past. it's a burden that can only be eased by those few who know him more thoroughly than others. there is no buneary hanging on a wire trap or a mangy mutt blindly following the words received from above. unless they want you to perceive it like that.

'YOU HAVE TO BE VERY DESPERATE TO COME TO ME FOR HELP' can work both ways. shady business deals, desperate contracts, all of that. when the official routes fail, you turn to the worst yet most efficient service providers.

ASSASSINATION HIRE need to get rid of someone quick? call him.

(BEGRUDGINGLY) WORKING TOGETHER FROM DIFFERENT MORAL POINTS whether it's more casual like sharing knowledge on scientific endeavors, or more serious like uniting together against a common threat. the enemy of my enemy is my (temporary) friend.

APPRENTICE-TYPE DYNAMICS can also work either way. archer is a medical doctor capable of training someone in the field or with the forensic pathology and autopsy things and is a great teacher. but he's also still young, and could get good advice from someone older and more experienced.

SPARRING/GUN CONTROL/MARTIAL ARTS TRAINING related to the previous. just study under him. it's worth the horrors.

UNLIKELY FRIENDSHIPS obviously they're great. especially if, again, it's two people from completely different moral standpoints but somehow they just get along great, and everyone around them is shocked about it.

'WE DONT NECESSARILY LIKE EACH OTHER BUT OUR POKÉMON DO SO WE NEED TO KEEP MEETING UP BECAUSE THEY GET SAD OTHERWISE' very specific but funny subspecies of possibly unlikely friendships.

PRE-ESTABLISHED (platonic) DYNAMICS example of two people who used to be friends a decade or more ago meeting accidentally and finding out what that kid they used to play with in the forest grew up to become.

FELLOW CRIMINALS whether they're rivals or coexisting or offering each other valuable assets to gain something in return. all good.

OUTSIDE MAIN VERSE

PRE ROCKET/PRE EXECUTIVE ERA he was a scruffy and rebellious little bastard and hates it personally when anyone reminds him of it (or in general is even aware of it).

HGSS ERA AND ESPECIALLY THE AFTERMATH this is undoubtedly the lowest point. note that replies in this verse will take longer than my regular because the mindset is a heavy one to get into.

THE ROCKET BOSS VERSE the mantle is passed down from giovanni, undoubtedly causing some growing pains at the start. very ripe for fellow villain interactions (and others).
