#it’s a link back to reality

Good morning what are the movies or tv shows that traumatized you as a kid mine are the BBC production of A Christmas Carol and a handful of David Suchet Poirot episodes
#my dad always thought if something was well done it was appropriate for children#so we never watched the silly little kid version of things. The muppet Christmas Carol? My dad would N E V E R#anyway a Christmas Carol ruined Christmas for me for YEARS#i hated to think about it#and poirot was just. traumatizing#there’s one called murder on the links which involved a golf course at night which is one of the most terrifying locations I can imagine#also there’s one called death in the clouds#and poirot uncovers the murder because there are two spoons on the dead lady’s tray of airplane food#and the way he says ‘he picks up a spoon giving him the task of a waiter to carry out’#when explaining the murder at the end to this DAY sends chills up my spine#I know this is very obvious but the thing about fear is that it isn’t about logic or reason but it is about revelation#it’s like the flip side of moments of good and happy insight#at least for me#what terrifies me is a moment where some kind of evil is revealed in a blinding FLASH#a motive or (I guess) a ghost#and there is this presence of some malevolent entity underneath the reality of things#and something about it being SEEN almost more than it existing#is so scary. Like I.#Poirot uncovering the murder and describing it with such studied fascinated careful attention#pulling back the layers of a blind of one kind or another#shakes me to. my. CORE.#and it’s all so visual and instinctive. it’s one tiny little moment that doesn’t fit suddenly pulling back the curtain of reality#with such terrifying abruptness#makes me want to sit down and cry like a baby#the knowledge of evil doesn’t scare me. as in it doesn’t elicit an emotional/physical reaction of fear#but seeing it in embodied action. again. where it’s some tiny ordinary little detail suddenly ripping reality as you know it to shreds#the surprise of it. the recalibration it demands#I !!!!!!!!! Get so afraid

If you tracked my eye activity on that bliss promo pic with the tops it would be something like this
Tumblr media
Making a major stop at topper
Tumblr media
Before crashing into a ditch (yakuya corner)
Tumblr media
#i'm having a moment. the only time i'll ever see these two standing next to each other is in a promotional pic for the sfw game version#FOR SERIOUS i was weirded out by this combination of characters in one pic when i first saw it#i was like oh?? they doing a random assortment now? i mean sure! yeah! i guess! spice it up they look great!!#then someone pointed out that this was Tops Only#then showed me the corresponding picture of Bottoms Only#and i felt my eyebrow raise sharply#OOOH.... i didn't even consider... right.... top bottom segregation#(reality does not occur to me. i see them all through switch-coloured lenses and thus ignore information inconvenient to my preference)#then i started thinking more about the . idea of it. that the tops are in a bar's hidden back room with mafia boss dante#and the bottoms are hanging out in the airy beautiful atrium of pure white snow and lilting piano music#tops are like WELCOME TO THE LIONS DEN and bottoms are like HEY COME INTO THE AVIARY AND SIT WITH US 🥰#i dwelt on the fact that i was weirded out by yakumo in this group#and it made me think about how..... yakumo would be scared of all the other tops#all of them are INTIMIDATION 100 to hiim#so i imagine after you get him to pose for this shot with everyone. and the business is done#yakumo will quickly retreat to the room with the bottoms (where all his friends are)#blade being the adaptable little creature he is will be like OH COOL ARE YOU GOING TO SEE THE OTHERS??#I WANT TO SEE THE OTHERS TOO!! MORE FRIENDS!! LET'S GO TOGETHER n_n *links arms* *DRAGS everyone else out of the room*#imagining yaku being first ushered into this dark room with kuya dante and quincy#and he's just nervously glancing at topper for reassurance that there's no danger#just trembling and thinking about how he wants his emotional support wolf/vice captain/priest/earring twin senpai#no yakumo. i wanted you to mingle. and you shall mingle#wear matching outfits with your fellow Tops and (topp) until you build trust and reduce their Intimidation Factors#nu carnival dante#nu carnival blade#nu carnival quincy#nu carnival kuya#nu carnival yakumo

sometimes a show throws a scenario at you that you could see coming a hundred miles off but that in no way is gonna prevent you from going absolutely feral over it. Anyway I binged all of Link Click in like three days and I'm going to start chewing furniture about the end of S2

Bellumbeck is such an interesting final boss, because not only is it your ally, some of the bosses actions/details make it clear that Linebeck is fighting back. Retraining Ciela instead of killing her, using moves he's seen Link do, and more darkly in the manga - willing to destroy himself if it protects Link. Link is forced to fight not just an ancient evil - but one of the closest friends he's ever made besides Tetra, and one of the few adult figures he respects. To fight Linebeck is to potientially lose another mentor as was with The King of Red Lions
Bellumbeck is so… he really stands out from pretty much all of the other final bosses and its so cool- and it’s like you say, Bellumbeck is not just some final form of varying flavors of Evil Thing or a dangerous character whose defeat the world would benefit from, that’s your fucking friend. It doesn't feel heroic like other final bosses, it feels like a desperate fight for the survival of you and your friends.
Linebeck being capable of fighting back or otherwise resisting Bellum is an interesting one; definitely a fun way to give him some sort of agency or role to play, suggesting that he may be fighting against Bellum just as hard as Link is. I think I've seen some people suggest that the slight hesitation or pause before some of Bellumbeck's attacks may be caused by Linebeck trying to stop himself (like the manga shows him doing).
I absolutely ADORE the idea that Bellumbeck uses a spin attack because it's something that Linebeck has seen Link do. The idea that it might be unconscious, or something Bellum just happened to pick up on from Linebeck's memories... UGH it's good no matter how you justify it.
On the other hand, I personally don't see how Linebeck fighting back would've had an effect on Bellum restraining rather than killing Ciela. I understand stuff like a hitch in the attacks or unconsciously influencing what attacks are made, since all of that is stuff that Linebeck has a direct (though unwilling) hand in, but Bellum grabbing Ciela is something that... Bellum individually does. I don't imagine that Linebeck would be able to have any ability to influence what Bellum himself does, especially considering that even if he can affect the part he's directly involved in it's only ever a small effect. Bellum restraining rather than killing Ciela is, I think, a deliberate choice on Bellum's part without any input from Linebeck, and honestly even that way it's still interesting to think about.
The manga's take on events is interesting, especially with the idea that, to some degree, Linebeck was able to overpower Bellum in order to move how he wanted (even though it was clearly limited to only specific parts and with clear difficulty) and the idea that he'd do... well, anything he can to ensure Link's safety is pretty good.
The general concept of a Link having to fight a possessed person isn't really new and wasn't new when Phantom Hourglass rolled around, but I honestly think ph did it best, holy shit. Link having to fight a close friend and someone in a role akin to a mentor to him is already one hell of a devastating setup, but one extra thing I've seen others point out is that the Bellumbeck fight is the second time Link's be faced with a sword fight with another human, and he ended the first one by killing his opponent. So, that's a fun correlation for Link to make during this fight!
Bellumbeck is just... it's such a cool, unique battle even compared to the other final bosses, and while it may fall short in difficulty or gameplay, it has some fantastic music and all of the story and character surrounding it is honestly amazing.

I would love to hear your thoughts about Hotch and fire because I never really noticed it but when you point it out it does stand out as something he gets VERY affected by very quickly
its not the most obvious pattern, which is par for the course when it comes to anything relating to hotch’s past. but i think its sooo interesting that hotch seems to be on edge/more emotional when they deal with cases involving fire. in ashes and dust he seems particularly moved talking to the burn victim and insists on being the one to speak to her; in house on fire he averts his eyes from the burnt corpses and has a shorter temper; in devil’s night he’s antsy the whole case and makes brash decisions (like running into a burning building???)
Tumblr media
its subtle changes, so subtle that im not entirely convinced im not just hallucinating it all, but it seems like there’s something there. especially during the final confrontation with the unsubs in each of those episodes: the steel-faced hotch is gone, and he seems incapable of hiding his fear. in devil’s night he has a hard time looking away from the unsub’s lighter; in house on fire he keeps glancing down at the spilled gasoline. if it was anyone else i wouldnt pay any mind, but hotch is known for staring down death (like with foyet). he’s.. uncharacteristically emotional
Tumblr media
i feel like something must have happened. even gideon—who has better insight on hotch’s past than anyone—seems concerned when hotch volunteers to go to the burn ward or gets distracted looking at a child’s burnt shoe on the ground. the way hotch lingers on the picture of the mother with her son… something mustve happened in the past for him to take this so personally
Tumblr media
im not sure what it is. again, we dont really know anything about hotch’s background (and what we do know is frequently contradicted a couple seasons later—like the way his father died) so its not like we have a lot to work with. simply because of his interaction with charlotte cutler, i think it might have something to do with his mom? we dont know anything about her outside other than her attending mary baldwin. there are just so many unknown variables and oddly intimate moments of connection he has with various abused-sons throughout the seasons
Tumblr media
was he in a fire growing up? was his mother? maybe his mom was inside and he stood helpless on the outside, unable to save her? was it an arsonist? was it his father? or was it his mother herself—tired of her life and trying to tear it all down with her? was it all just a horrible accident? was it before or after his father’s death? was his mom dying the final push for hotch to stand up to his father?
there are just… so many questions. so many possibilities. but, whatever happened, hotch is definitely afraid of fire.

FILL ME UP
POUR ME OUT
WASH HER NAME OUT OF MY MOUTH
I AM READY TO BE CLEAN
BURN MY LUNGS AND SHE WAS GONE
LONG BEFORE THE LIGHTS WENT ON
GOD I HOPE SHE'S DONE WITH ME
DO YOU BEG?
DO YOU PRAY?
TELL ME HOW YOU GET AWAY
FROM THE VOICES IN YOUR HEAD
I AM LOST
I'VE BEEN DONE
LONG BEFORE THE LIGHTS WENT ON
SOMEONE PLEASE PUT ME TO BED
Cause I-
I AM NOT WELL

there is a time, as a child, where stones or sticks or a pot over fire are warm not just for the flames, but for the way it is about learning how to look after yourself. and how to look after others, in turn! do the kokiri cook? i believe, yes. does link cook? i believe even more, yes. nature gives — lushly — and the children of the forest take — reverently. the act of hunting is that of respect. the act of feeding is that of love. the act of cooking is that of trust.
when link cooks, even by the bare definition of it as a meat-over-fire sort of thing, it's so easy to do in the face of words he can't seem to find. he doesn't need to use his voice for this care at all, and the words will be conveyed anyway. in a place like kokiri forest, where everyone always knows when the fruits are just ripe enough, home tastes like the earth: like chestnuts still warm from the fire, berries with a tart aftertaste, lemongrass on game meat.
castle town brings with it new foods and textures — he likes sticky rice the best. over the course of his journey, he looks to street foods and inn/home-cooked meals. lon lon ranch brings with it lon lon milk, and i imagine creamy soups. zora's domain is where the fish are really juicy, and there are things like shellfish, molluscs, hard things that can be cracked open the way forest nuts are. he can't eat rock sirloin or roasts on death mountain, but goron spice is a kick he enjoys for its newness. the riches and dishes of the desert, all eaten with whatever sense of camaraderie the gerudo are willing to build with him — he enjoys these, too.
i think he's someone who likes eating when his head is in the right place for it, or when he's with the right company. he tends to just go through the motions after everything.

Was thinking about Revali and how he was created as a rival for Link. I don’t remember if we’ve ever had a “rival” for link in any other iteration. There’s occasionally the “bully” like Mido or Groose and obviously we have the main antagonists like Ganondorf, Zant, Girahim etc.
I was thinking Ralph from the Oracle of Ages would be the closest to something like Revali but I don’t think Ralph ever actually fought Link. If AoC counts for something, it shows that Revali might actually be on par with Link in terms of battle. Given that Zelda had interrupted their fight, we don’t know how it would have turned out.

venera is so confused. he didn't know they changed the execution method so much. why do they need a picture of him and a plaque with his name on it? do they no longer mount the heads on walls? oh god, how is venera meant to fake the execution if they changed the methods?? fuck why did everyone stop doing the cutting off the hand of the thief thing. that was so much easier to illusion away. jianwei (or if you want to get all exact about it, jiàn-wěi) is freaking out just as much as venera, though for highly separate reasons relating to the fact he is an amnesiac and has no way of knowing if he's already in their systems for something. people looking at his mugshot don't need to know about that though.

i love how i sent a nice, brief, personable email to a place to enquire abt a potential job opening they had on their site (no other way listed to contact them abt this stuff, and their site gave no other info on HR/jobs/ hiring aside from the one line that essentially just said 'Position Vacant [Dept]' that i was interested in)
and was sent back a link to a site they claim holds their job openings but THAT site claims the place has their own listings elsewhere but doesn't say where the heck that would be
you could have just said the position wasn't available anymore if ya didn't wanna deal with me. Or just don't reply at all and ghost me like everyone else lmao 🙃

I've been getting into doing my homework digitally lately using Notion, since it's a lot easier to type and use equations on there than it is for most of the other programs I've tried. I also feel like I'm saving a lot of time & saving my hand a lot of pain from having to sit there and write equations for pages and pages despite my disabilities haha.

Can I just say I love Link to the Past’s Dark World concept?
For those who don’t know, basically how it seems to work is that when you enter the Dark World, you become a reflection of your inner self. We see this on our first visit there when Link becomes a bunny, something seen as innocent and good, while another character that was seemingly once human turns into a pig-like creature, reflecting its inner ugliness, due to its greed for the Golden Power
Edit: I got there again today, here are my screenshots explaining the Dark World, just for a proper explanation because I don’t think I gave that great of one:

Just the concept of a place that makes someone’s inner self now reflected outwardly for all to see is just something I really like and would love to see in other media
