The racism you experienced does not have to be violent to be valid.

about your last post: I totally understand where you’re coming from. I’m a Coast Salish artist and have published some art for my tribe but I’m terrified of posting it online for these reasons. I’ve considered a side blog but I’m not sure if it’s worth it :(
I wish I could give some sort of reassurance or advice or hypothetical way of handling it that i'm trying out that might help, but the truth is that I'm just as torn as you are on the subject of sharing traditional art and culture to a broad audience who might or might not respect and appreciate my culture ;o; I don't *want* to have to not share my artwork, but the way the internet is sometimes, it feels like it's better to only share my art amongst close friends/family members because there are so many non-native ppl out there who will do and say hurtful things because they cannot comprehend boundaries and respect for a protected culture that the government and churches and general public wanted to pick apart like carrion while hoping that the people that belonged to it would vanish and meld into society quietly.

idk if i have stated in so many words before but kinda weird for people not to care about the brown men of the story on account of them being men
like most people did to javi irl what the yellowjackets did in the show lol, dismissed always, no more than the little kid, he was already dead

i'm cry laughing some people on twitter are now saying "izzy bashing" needs to be tagged in fics. how did these people ever survive watching this show where izzy is the CANON ANTAGONIST i'll never know
benefit of the doubt but i think most of them have gotten to this point gradually. when they first watched the show they were not attached to izzy the way they are now. i know for a lot of people it was blorbo at first sight with izzy but i've also seen izzy enjoyers say they didn't like him at first, and then fandom made them care about him.
like i'm pretty sure for a lot of ppl it started off with isolating themselves from ppl who made posts that they didnt like, like ppl who criticized ofmd for being based on two real people with direct connections to actual real-world slave trade (which is an incredibly valid thing to criticize abt ofmd).
another one that i think funneled a lot of fans towards being so delusionally attached to izzy was people pointing out or complaining about the disproportionate amount of fan content for izzy compared to prominent characters of color—which is a consistent issue in fandom no matter what the media, and is also a very easy one for people to be uncomfortable with whenever they see it get pointed out. people venting that "fans care too much abt this white man" often make fans who care abt that white man very defensive right off the bat, and then rather than engage with why they feel defensive or question if maybe their enjoyment of this character is fueled by implicit bias (which it might not be, to be clear! im not saying—and i have never said—that everyone who enjoyes izzy likes him for racist reasons), they stop listening to the conversation abt white favoritism and continue blorboposting as much as they want. it's incredibly easy for fans to brush off this convo as "just starting drama" and avoid the topic altogether because "fandom is for fun!" and they dont want to think abt difficult topics like racism and implicit bias, they just want to enjoy their blorbos in peace.
so they kept narrowing the takes they were seeing until they were in an echo chamber that kept moving more and more towards complete woobification of izzy hands. these people are now looking at the show entirely through izzy's pov, making posts abt how sad it is that none of the other characters are ever nice to him, how frustrating the show is from his perspective, how it feels to be deeply in love with someone who doesn't love you back. they've stared at gifs of con's micro-expressions and read angsty fanfiction and looked at endless izzy fanart and their entire ofmd fandom experience revolves around empathizing with this one character even tho the show itself continually makes him the butt of the joke.
at this point, telling these people to rewatch the show doesn't even matter. they've spent so much time over-analyzing every single one of izzy's scenes to the point where the emotional responses they get from these scenes are not the emotional responses anyone would have watching the show for the first time. they've warped the entire first season to fit their version of the show and are forgetting how often the show itself bashes izzy.
and the icing on the cake is the trolling. there's like, one or two people on here who go around sending anon hate and leaving nasty comments on instagram posts and harassing people on twitter for... like, i would say "for liking izzy" or even "for saying positive things about izzy" but like. i've gotten these messages, and the most sympathetic i've ever been to izzy was the post i made like "maybe he's mean bc he has chronic IBS. i'd actually understand him more if that were the case." so when i get these messages it's easier for me to just laugh them off bc it's so obviously just someone trying to make me upset, but people who do care about izzy (a lot of them being the same people who avoided engaging with the "why does fandom care so much abt white characters" convo) get these absolutely horrible messages about how they deserve to get hate crimed and they should kill themselves. and these fans who didn't want to even see vaguely negative posts abt izzy bc they just want to enjoy fandom in peace are now like "im targeted for just liking a character!"
so that's how we get to people saying that "izzy bashing" needs to be tagged. never mind that their definition of "bashing" almost certainly includes things that are not bashing but are just things that contradict the way they headcannnon him.

cannot BELIEVE people who tell me Wings of Fire is worse than Warrior cats. did you READ the pro-colonizer heavily Christian propaganda. Did you ever ONCE think about how the tribe of rushing water is a racist caricature of native American tribes. Look me in the eyes and tell me that you never read any of that right now. I dare you

total inability to grasp the function of AI as a metaphor in sci fi storytelling as well as an overall lack of sensitivity towards geopolitical allegory within their childlike both-sides wankery that is too poorly removed from real-life aesthetics to be taken at face value

Aight fuck it this took me so long cause i wanted to make some concept art but i really can't draw architecture so i decide to just not show visuals
So the bird kingdom
Btw all the kingdoms now don't consist of just one species they are inhabited by specific categories of animals (birds canines felines etc)
It was kinda weird to me how chima decided to make an eagles kingdom and a raven kingdom
Why those bird species specifically? Why 2 different bird kingdoms? Why are the ravens in the show depicted as very racist charcuterie wtf lego
So i decided to unite them both into one big general bird kingdom
Which is in tern divided into 2 separate parts
Yeah babe this show is about furry racism and I'm gonna keep it that way
The kingdom is divided into the High Republic and the Lower City
The Republic is basically where the high class ppl live and high class in this sense includes birds that can fly (eagles hawks doves etc) cause the names higher and lower are literal
Even tho the chi river is on the ground birds of the higher republic harvest all the chi to power their flying luxury houses
These higher birds live by greek philosophers mindsets aka philosophers and politicians are the noblest of jobs while all other work is for slaves
And idk if i made it clear but birds aren't inventors in my version they're just philosophers
I talked alot about the republic but what about those guys at the lower city?
Well they're not having a good time
This city is where the nonflying birds live (ostriches kiwis chickens) along side some flying birds that are only there to scam the birds of lowers city and push them further into poverty
They basically have it all against them from higher birds looking down on them for not being able to fly and having "slave" jobs to other higher birds scaming them to keep their lives a living hell and even getting stripped of the resources from the river that is in their territory
While higher bird culture is all about sitting in bless all day and philosophising lower birds can't really afford the same luxury the lower birds sadly live in a society

I feel like so many posts on the subject do not get that the point of moralizing your dislikes and a lot of discourse in general is like...the desire to be The Most Correct. To protect against ever feeling shame or cognitive dissonance. You just make a moral framework that enshrines your opinions and turns shame onto others, forcing them to conform or be labeled an enemy. In either case you can be assured of your own righteousness and do not have to endure the pain of examining your thoughts and biases or simply accepting that you and another person simply disagree.
I'm not saying creating a moral high ground to feel better is a fine and neutral behavior, it is bad, I'm just saying it's very common and a tale as old as time and that I feel like posts that are like "do people know they can just dislike things" (often there are social consequences for not liking things other people do!) or "You can say squick instead of trigger!" ("squick" doesn't provide that rush of moral superiority) miss this point.
(The fact that often people don't simply let you disagree of course compounds this, and the internet being so ridiculously large and social media facilitating bandwagoning and public shaming just amplifies it all x100, like it's no wonder so many people have anxiety disorders. The audience you feel you have to justify yourself to, the fact that you can't really talk to people in person, the amount of people you can potentially have against you...it's a lot to have to handle and I sometimes get why people rush to making very stupid hills to die on just to make themselves feel superior.)

can you tell me about the cure and the smiths being racist? i think i heard about the smiths one, but i'm not sure? i'm completely out of the loop on this kind of stuff because i really don't listen to that music
i kind of wish you guys would look this stuff up before asking me about these kinds of things because the stuff about the smiths is VERY OPEN. one quick search will show you all the racist things Morrissey has said - even if you are "out of the loop" and with the cure I didn't even do extensive research, I watched a few videos and came across one (why can't I be you?) where somebody was in blackface (literally 3 seconds in they show up) and that was enough for me but the song "killing an arab" is also a song that contributes to this
