Ooohhh I’m so glad someone directly asked me about season 3 Tang stuff. I’ve been struggling to focus on one thing at a time with that (plus my new hyperfixation with Rottmnt isn’t helping), so hopefully this will get the ball rolling for me.

I love the confrontation between Tang and Macaque in Lantern City. The amount of times I’ve rewatched that scene alone is ridiculous. It does a good job of highlighting an element of each character that I hadn’t considered before, especially when it comes to how they view companionship. Both Macaque and Tang have insecurities when it comes to their friendships - Macaque with his bitter past w/ SWK and Tang with his place as the team’s resident “normal guy” - and the Lantern scene really emphasizes that in a way I didn’t expect.

It gets really interesting when you consider the fact that Tang is the ONLY other main character besides MK or SWK to have an 1-on-1 interaction with Macaque. The way Macaque treats Tang feels very different than any other character he’s shared a scene with. Every time Macaque interacts with another character (other than LBD) he either mocks or dismisses the other person. He mocks those he’s fighting (Dragon of the East and Sandy), dismisses Mei up until ‘The Samadhi Fire’, and he does both with SWK and MK throughout the show. With Tang, however, Macaque almost seems to treat him with a bit of respect. Macaque calls Tang by his name instead of giving him some kind of nickname and his conversation with Tang doesn’t involve any taunting or dismissive language. When Macaque says that Tang’s friends ‘get along just fine without [Tang],’ it isn’t meant to be demeaning - it’s a warning: “Don’t get attached to people who don’t appreciate you, or you’ll end up where I am.” Sure, Macaque kicks Tang straight in the face and throws him against the wall (how dare he hurt our nerd boy, btw), but he isn’t toying with Tang, which you might expect when a powerful character comes face-to-face with a guy who doesn’t even fight.

The scene in Lantern City definitely hits harder after the season 3 special. Since it has been confirmed by the show that there is some sort of direct connection between Tang and Tripitaka (although we’re still not sure what exactly that connection is) we truly begin to see the similarities between Tang and Macaque. They are both characters who live in the shadow of a legendary figure they could never hope to match up to and they both feel overlooked by those close to them as a result. In this scenario, Tang and Macaque become foils of one another - Macaque shows Tang the worst that can happen when his friends leave him behind for good. The difference between the two characters stem from the values they hold and what they expect for themselves. Macaque seems to value strength and, as such, believes that the best way to be accepted is to not only be equal to SWK, but better than him. Tang, on the other hand, values peace and friendship and instead of wishing to be better than his friends so that they may appreciate him more, his speech in ‘Benched’ reveals that all Tang wants to do is simply help them.

The crew is definitely trying to bring the unique dynamic between these two characters to our attention by having them interact in such a way, and I think they would have explored this dynamic a bit more if the crew were allotted more episodes per season.

a while ago, i hit 1.5k followers on this blog.... i didn't want to get too sappy but i really wanted to write something, so:

the fact that over one and a half thousand individuals follow me is truly insane and too much for my little brain to grasp. i want you to know that i'm so extremely thankful for each and every single one of you and this makes me so so so happy. this is way more than i ever had expected when creating this blog.

i made this account back in june purely for my own enjoyment; i created it mainly because i was disappointed in myself for having stopped writing, since writing has been such a big part of my life since forever. ever since i stopped writing about kpop, i had barely written anything at all... i made this account just for fun with no pressure and no expectations, and before i knew it, this blog turned into something so special for me. the blog, all of the people i've met through it and all of the moments we've shared, all mean the world to me.

honestly, i'm not sure what i would do right now if i didn't have this blog and this community. these last few months have been pretty rough for me, but i've always been able to come back on here and gain a smile or some laughter. you've all helped me so much, even if unintentionally – every single interaction helps me push forward. i'm eternally grateful for every single like, comment, reblog and ask i've received on here, and your kind words really do mean the world to me. i don't know where i would be without you.

procrastination is starting to have its consequences finally

What do you hc are some of utena & anthy’s specific n mundane favorite things about each other?

I.e Utena having a subconcious habit of always circling a couch once before she plops down on it to watch tv, or anthy’s hands often smelling like the specific brand of cat food that anthy swears by even though there’s no difference between it and the rival brand, and how anthy’s improved a good bit at cooking since ohtori, but for the life of her she can never manage to fully manage frying eggs, so the edges are always a bit burnt when utena eats them, and utena’s taken up wood working n carpentry as hobbies, and she ends up seeming to trail the slightest bit of wood shavings everywhere, with a habit of having one hand gloved and the other not so she can do whatever it is she took a break from the wood working for

aww i love all those examples :)) i actually included that exact thing about the burnt eggs in one of my fics, so that's a fun coincidence. here are some more:

anthy has a habit of humming songs she likes while doing any of her hobbies (painting, writing, cooking/baking, gardening, etc etc) and even though it's always slightly out of tune, utena loves listening to it

utena has a habit of falling asleep on the floor in the exact same way their cat does which anthy finds both funny and endearing

utena loves anthy's laugh more than anything in the world, especially because she was so unused to hearing it back in ohtori

just in general she appreciates anthy's openness, whether she's rambling abouta cute bug she saw or expressing her annoyance at someone she had to interact with earlier (even when that someone sometimes is utena herself.)

she also always enjoys it when anthy is really passive aggresive to people neither of them like. they can both be kinda mean and petty sometimes, but usually it's to people who deserve it

anthy likes the feeling of the callouses on utena's hands when she holds them. there's a scar on the back of her hand that she likes running her thumb over

utena talks in her sleep occasionally (kind of canon already) and sometimes it wakes anthy because she's a light sleeper. she thinks it's sweet, if a little annoying at times

when anthy concentrates really hard on something she gets this expression on her face that utena finds adorable

anthy thinks utena's clumsiness and tendency to trip over things is cute

You're too sweet sending me this ask😭 This is actually one of my favorite fics that I've written so I am THRILLED to talk about it.

I'm very tired when I answer this so excuse any rambling and typos lol. ANYWAYS.

2. What scene did you first put down?

I think the first scene I actually wrote for this fic was Jaskier giving Geralt a rock(basically the first scene in the fic lol). I've heard people with gift giving as a love language love giving/receiving little things like rocks or leaves, because to them, it means something. I knew I wanted to make Jaskier's gifts be small but meaningful, and what better way to start off the fic then by having him give the person he loves a something as simple as a rock? Especially when, to him, it reminds him of pearls and the color of Geralts hair.

3. What's your favorite line of narration?

This one was hard because there are actually quite a few lines in this fic that I loved. But if I had to choose, it'd probably be this:

"He loves doing this for her, allowing her even a moment of reprieve. So she can be a child again. Just a child enjoying a story told by a bard."

I really liked this line because we rarely get to see Ciri just getting to be her age. And the idea that Jaskier, a bard, can give her that joy, that freedom to just listen to a grand story being told by a famous bard. UGH. ITS SO SWEET. Definitely one of my favorite parts to write.

11. What do you like best about this fic?

I loooove exploring dynamics in fics, whether they be platonic, romantic, or familial. Especially between characters who never or rarely interact. So exploring the dynamics between, not only Geralt and Yennefer, which is already throughly explored in many other fics, but also with Istredd and Ciri was such a blast!

Love languages was a really fun way to explore these dynamics individually, but I loved going in depth on how I imagine Istredd and Jaskiers dynamic would be. I mean, two sarcastic scholars in one room? How could you not want to explore that? And I'm such a sucker for Jaskier and Ciri having their own father daughter dynamic, especially because they both come from wealth and understand the shallowness that can come with that. The idea that Ciri gets to be a little kid with him(and the others, but mostly him) is so precious to me!
