TOS was fairly progressive... for the time period it was made in, so it definitely had its limits + in some cases studio meddling was very much a thing (ex: there is a rather infamous story about how the Kirk/Uhura kiss in an episode almost didn't get through because the studio was concerned it'd alienate racist audiences basically so they insisted they film two separate scenes and were intending to go with the other, but the actors intentionally messed up all the other takes to get that scene in). I assume however the clumsy almost-feminist moments are simply a case of "there was an attempt *misshapen gold star*" more so than studio meddling

Oh believe me, I'm aware of the context tos was made in. I do however think that looking at a story's context when it comes to sexism (and other issues) has it's limits.

Can I, intellectually, know that the constant casual sexism is more likely a product of its social context, as well as general Sci-fi genre problems, than a conscious effort to shit on women? yeah. (*)

Does it mean i shouldn't make fun of said sexism ? nah. That shit is ridiculous. If you want me to able to enjoy tos in any sort of way, i get to make fun of them for the way they treat their fem characters.

*p-s : Most sexist take on women in fiction are not intentional on the part of their author. Cue Moffat claiming he's a feminist in several interviews i found, despite every single women i've seen him write be a sex object in some sort of way. Just because something wasn't meant to be sexist, or was even meant to be feminist, doesn't mean it's not actually sexist hot shit. Gold stars are great, and people should be credited for trying but it doesn't mean we don't get to be like "hey maybe that's not great"

TL;DR : star trek tos is sexist and i do get to make fun of it a little bit for it on my blog. If that bothers you, the block button is right there xoxo
