It hurts to see how normalized whitewashing has become in media and fandom.

People are so caught up in making racism one thing, like slurs or stereotypes, that they forget or intentionally ignore the many layers to racism and it’s casual role in society and media.

Whitewashing pushes Eurocentric standards like beauty or lifestyle as the ideal, and actively harms People of Color by looking down upon or erasing our features, skin tones and culture.

Whitewashing is racist. Whitewashing is a form of racism.

Whitewashing is harmful, whitewashing is degrading, it’s dehumanizing. It makes you feel ashamed. It makes you feel ignored.

It makes you feel ugly.

Yet it’s so normalized that people don’t even recognize it as racist.

A comic book character with dark skin is played by a light skinned actor in live action, but no one blinks because both character and actor are the same race. They ignore the colorism.

An animated show based on a live action media animates an Actor of Color with lightened eyes, a thin nose and lightened skin. But no one blinks because “it’s just animation.”

A character of color’s culture is removed or pushed aside for a more American centric story and plays into the “American Dream” stereotype. This is cultural whitewashing.

This is casual racism in media.

No matter what form or what media, whitewashing is racism.

And it hurts.

ch1 part 2 is still coming ASAP but: spent 6 hours in the ER on this weekend after I fractured my elbow by closing a door on it. i WISH i was joking because that's an utterly absurd way to hurt yourself but alas, here we are.

I read a fic yesterday that briefly mentioned Dazai not ever allowing Akutagawa to take pain medication and they wrote "there is not a hurt in his body that Akutagawa will risk angering Dazai for" and I kind of love that as a concept because of the multitude of reasons Dazai would have more denying him that, and reasons for Akutagawa to obey him, and the effect it would have on him after Dazai leaves...Akutagawa always refusing medication no matter how much pain he's in and no one understanding why...but the adverse too, maybe he gives in one day and realizes they do help, even if it's just a little, he's always in some sort of pain 😭 and becomes dependent/addicted

Snowy died today

It hasn't even been 6 months since Saturn passed. Snowy had really suddenly gone down hill and found that her liver was failing, the kindest thing I could do was have her PTS. In her last days she grabbed onto me with the little strength she had, anytime I was too far away she'd cry, if I wasn't touching her, she cried. I pet her as she went, I kissed her, I told her I loved her. I told her to say hi to Saturn for me. They were bonded, and now they're together again. I love you Snowy, I miss you so much already, thank you for being the best kitty ever.

Today is another day I'm reminded that we have been absolutely ROBBED when it comes to the art...

Shouto countered a 5km diameter NUKE in a single move and didn't get a single double spread of his actual attack or show his face doing it. All we got was a 90% empty page - twice (the second time, he's barely visible).

The writing quality of Shouto's endgame is insanely good and narratively coherent - one of the best things in the final arc, but the art simply doesn't live up to the writing. 😭😭

I would expect one of the main characters getting his final attack the size of a huge area (which ends one of the biggest storylines) showcased in a more impactful way and not be less memorable than the Act 1 panel that was a stadium size attack. And because of the lacking art, it will forever be underrated by the fandom.
