this is a fucking reprehensible thing to do when a genocide is being committed, posting for people’s blocklists. i won’t be entertaining any bullshit in the notes of this post either.
Thinking about how in 1983 Ofra Haza, a Yemenite-Jew refugee, sang the song Chai at Eurovision in Munich, Germany 11 years after the Munich Massacre and only four decades after the Holocaust, with a song where the chorus says Am Yisrael Chai - The Nation of Israel Lives and it's all about joyous survival. (She placed second)
legitimately insane how to some people, "we should wipe out this ethnic group that we've violently constrained to a ghetto because they're just genetically more violent and dangerous" is a reasonable and justifiable statement but it's Nazi Rhetoric to say something like, "it's bad that Israeli civilians are being killed but acknowledging that as tragic includes acknowledging that the almost daily state-sanctioned murder of civilians by the Israeli government is also tragic and unacceptable"
btw guys speaking of Nazi shit - can we check in, alongside what's been done to Palestinians in the last 75 years, what's the Israeli government's take on the Azerbaijani government's newest round of ethnic cleansing of Armenians? oh are the Israeli government's actions maybe not determined by Jewish identity, but by a commitment to colonial supremacy which puts them on the same page as other violently genocidal states like Azerbaijan, the US, and the UK? god can you Even Imagine?
(framing speaking against Israeli war crimes as inherently antisemitic requires understanding the Israeli state as representing all Jewish people, when it doesn't even represent all Israelis.
framing Israeli war crimes as synonymous with Jewish identity is pretty fucked up if we're being honest. I don't think that controlling water and power and movement for a captive population and shooting children dead for throwing stones is an inherent value of Judaism, any more than I think the torture carried out at Guantanamo Bay is an inherent value of Christianity - in both cases they're atrocities carried out by a far right genocidal government using religious identity as a shield.
Calling statements like "Israel is committing genocide against the people it's displaced" inherently antisemitic is doing more to further the idea that all Jewish people are associated with Israel than saying "the Israeli government is doing war crimes," which is a statement of fact about a country that exists and does war crimes. Is criticism of Israel as a nation often used as cover for antisemitism? Absolutely. Does that mean the Israeli government isn't doing literal war crimes repeatedly, on record, while talking publicly about scrubbing an ethnic group off the map? Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh well in the last 48 hours they've definitely cut off water and power to almost 600,000 civilians and allegedly used white phosphorus against civilians so in an extremely factual and unambiguous way yeah man those are Literal War Crimes whoever does them.)
i have a question about the list about zionism and antisemitism, the one that's dont "tell Jewish Israelis to "go back where they came from". i understand that there are jewish settlers that will have difficulty moving somewhere else, but doesn't this still perpetuate that colonizers have more of a right to the land than the people who they killed to take it? like the assumption is if we don't tell colonizers they should leave, then they have can stay and continue to occupy the land and resources that were stolen from palestinians
i feel like a palestinian person (or someone else who has been victim to colonization) can answer this better than i can, but i personally have never seen actual palestinians calling for all jewish israelis to remove themselves from the land completely. i don't think the only options are "jewish israelis stay and continue to oppress palestine" or "all jewish israelis vanish from the land without a trace" and imo suggesting so only perpetuates the idea that all palestinians/muslims hate all israelis/jews and have no interest or willingness to cohabitate in a scenario where all people are treated as equals (i'm not the person to ask regarding HOW to make this happen tho)
also like......i know this isn't the problem or responsibility of palestinians who lost their land to colonizers, but where should the jewish israelis go "back to"? setting aside the argument of jewish indigeneity altogether, as that post mentioned, many jews who initially relocated to israel (like post-shoah, not present-day) did so because they were being persecuted in the countries they were coming from. many of those countries are still not particularly safe for jews, and would DEFINITELY not become so in the event of a mass migration. i feel like you're picturing a country full of european and american olim who made aliyah in the last several decades bc of israeli propaganda/intentional annexing of land, but that's not the majority by any means.
again, that's not to say "oh well, they're already there so it would be pretty shitty to make em leave, palestine will just have to deal" but like. it's not realistic and it's also not what anyone is asking for. palestinians just want equal rights and to have stewardship over their ancestral homeland. and yknow, not to be physically and emotionally and socially eviscerated for the crime of existing in a politically frought (and politically advantageous) region. probably some reparations, and rightfully so. nobody is going to forcibly expel the israelis - if anything, some will leave on their own bc they're too racist to give up their privilege and continue to live there as equals, and the rest will be people living in a multiethnic, multifaith country
if ppl telling you "jewish ppl in israel were already kicked out of other countries and have no where else to go" makes you feel compelled to call whoever said that a "zionist", I really just dont think you give af about jewish ppl's lives quite frankly.
if your "free palestine" means "getting rid" of all jewish civilians in israel I think you're probably just a heartless asshole.
I need you all to talk about this. I need you all to use every platform you have. Supporting palestine doesn’t mean you’re anti jew in any way, shape or form. They bombed a christian hospital and killed 700 kids, a mosque for people seeking shelter. 50% of the population in gaza are under 18 years old. Let that sink in. They are murdering CHILDREN. This is genocide. This is a disgrace towards humanity. I want you to use your voice.
Slandered as a terrorist, this Palestinian journalist was a poet and a feminist
Palestinian women journalists have always been at the forefront of Israel’s violent occupation and the wars it has waged on Palestinians. Their bravery and dedication have helped shine light on the suffering and atrocities the Palestinian people have been through and continue to face.
The deadly forked tongue habit of Israelis on display and often the flimsy excuse for conflict. Enough.
Love to live in a country with a president who still has a hint of humanity. Love to see the international backlash against him pretty much saying "I don't think soldiers killing women and children is something I'd call a war". Actually I think if a country with a history of diplomatic neutrality says a situation is fucked up that means more (and more powerful) countries should've been saying this already
i saw someone say they were hoping noah would apologize and it's just kinda fascinating to me...if he thought zionism was sexy on monday (or i guess on sunday probably and for many days and weeks before that) why would he suddenly think it's an awful ideology on friday?
I’m kinda wondering how you’re dealing with the frustration from the situation, as well, a fellow American. Its frustrating trying to explain to my 60 year old parents that you can’t call it a war when the causalities are 1,600:26,000 and have to just be told “war is always ugly, countries have rights to defend themselves” BS or well seeing our lovely nation spew more shit on the matter and American news channels interviewing IDF soldiers. Biggest pig alive bill Maher meeting with other white men to talk about how “young people don’t know what they’re talking about”
I feel frustrated towards my nation and the efforts being put in because the disillusionment doesn’t come from like wanting to give up or anything like that, but doing everything in your power to want to help people who are suffering only to takes 4 steps backwards bc of some ailing white man. I feel so embarrassed towards Palestine because my nation is putting blood on their soil, it’s like screaming at the top of your lungs but they only fill with water. Gah sorry to rant I’m just home right now and thus have no one to talk to about it without starting an argument
first of all, im not america, im actually from north africa, living in europe! my entire family is aggresively pro-palestine, so thankfully no problems there.
it's incredibly frustrating to see other people be so ignorant and stupid! the media is trying very hard to push a narrative, but it isn't an excuse for anyone to not see that it is simply a genocide and nothing else. all the signs are there and more importantly, all the evidence of a genocide are there.
i understand your emotions completely! the western media outlets are so so so biased and often just blatantly wrong in the articles they write that it makes me angry everytime i read them. living in the west means you practically have no voice. it's always freedom this democracy that but the fact that no country is doing ANYTHING despite all the demonstrations and vocal support for palestine is very telling on every government. but we should never lose hope, the difference between the attitude towards the genocide before and after this war is huge, there is progress that is being made. and we should also try our best to changte the mindset of the people around us. that is in my opinion so important!
"it's like screaming at the top of your lungs but they only fill with water" is very well said. i can only imagine how it must be to actually have to live with people that don't want to see. i really wish you the best of luck!!
