Me: /trying to write fic of Leon fucking Ashley on his kitchen table
Covid Brain: Separate Ways is going to be separate
Me: what
Covid Brain: Separate Ways is going to be separate
Me: I don't know what the fuck that means, brain. you're sick and delirious. just go back to focusing on Leon's balls slapping against Ashley's clit while he fucks her from behind.
Covid Brain: homie I have never once in my life wanted to focus on Leon's balls for any reason, ok, so write that down
Me: WE ARE TRYING TO DO A THING HERE, BRAIN
Covid Brain: all these fucking broke-ass takes in fandom about what is or isn't going to be in Separate Ways fails to take into account that everything that happened in OG's Separate Ways has been changed. literally everything. the Luis scene from OG's SW is in the main campaign now, Ada talking to Wesker on comms about Leon is in the main campaign now, Ada betraying Wesker and not actually giving him the sample/amber is in the main campaign now. Wesker's attitude towards Leon is different. Ada and Luis's relationship is different. Using Leon as a distraction is Ada's idea now and not Wesker's anymore. Ada's role in the entire narrative has changed; she doesn't go into this game already intending to betray Wesker, which means all of her movements throughout the game will be different.
Me: I know this. I know all this, brain. I fucking talked about most of this just a few hours ago.
Covid Brain: UR NOT LISTENING
Covid Brain: ADA ONLY HAS FIFTEEN MINUTES OF SCREENTIME IN THE MAIN CAMPAIGN DO U UNDERSTAND THAT
Me: yes??????
Covid Brain: ALL THESE FUCKIN TAKES FROM FUCKIN AEON PPL BASICALLY BOIL DOWN TO "... AND ADA WAS THERE, TOO!" BUT SHE WASN'T. SHE'S NOT.
Me: what??????
Covid Brain: /slams hands down on the desk Phoenix Wright style
Covid Brain: THE ENTIRETY OF SEPARATE WAYS IN OG HAD ADA FOLLOWING LEON'S MOVEMENTS ALMOST EXACTLY BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL SEPARATE WAYS WAS DEVELOPED BY THE DIVISION 1 B-TEAM AFTER SHINJI MIKAMI LEFT THE FUCKING COMPANY BECAUSE THEY BROKE THEIR PROMISE OF NEVER PORTING RE4 TO THE PS2 (on top of all the other horrible shit they did to him)
Covid Brain: HAVING HER FOLLOW LEON WAS ALL THAT THEY COULD DO BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO BECAUSE THE DIRECTOR JUST WALKED THE FUCK OUT
Covid Brain: BUT TO TAKE ALL OF THE IMPORTANT SHIT FROM THE ORIGINAL SEPARATE WAYS AND PUT IT IN THE MAIN CAMPAIGN FOR REMAKE MEANS THAT SHE'S NOT GOING TO BE FOLLOWING LEON'S MOVEMENTS ANYMORE
Me: ...
Me: oh my god dude
Covid Brain: SEPARATE WAYS IS GOING TO BE THE FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE OF THE RE4 REMAKE
Covid Brain: IT'S GOING TO START OFF 1:1 THE EXACT SAME WAY AS OG BUT THEN KEEP GOING FURTHER AND FURTHER OFF SCRIPT UNTIL, BY THE END, YOU DON'T EVEN RECOGNIZE IT AS SEPARATE WAYS ANYMORE
Me: do you have to keep yelling in caps
Covid Brain: the whole point of Remake's Separate Ways is to be separate
Covid Brain: Ada doesn't belong, and that is the point
Covid Brain: she won't share a scar with Leon and Ashley, because she's not one of them. she's not part of the team. she's not just off-camera constantly doing hamfisted shit to keep Leon alive this time around. her story is going to be completely separate from his. completely.
Covid Brain: Ada realizes that she doesn't belong with Leon and Ashley, and then soon thereafter she realizes that she doesn't belong with Wesker, either. she doesn't belong anywhere. she's not good enough to be a good guy and not bad enough to be a villain. and that's the point.
Covid Brain: I'm talking thematically you fucking dope
Me: oh
Me: ok
Me: so this all means what, then, exactly?
Covid Brain: I don't fuckin know I just wanted to yell about themes
Covid Brain: I have fucking covid, u expect me to have all the fucking answers? fuck. I can't even write a simple smut scene for u
Me: you're a fucking idiot
Me: I'm going to bed
Covid Brain: :D

My favorite k-pop videos
This list is likely to change depending on what day I'm posting it, but I just rewatched #1 on this list three times in a row and felt like making a list.
Tumblr media
1. It's You - ATEEZ (Yeosang, San, Wooyoung) - this video makes me absolutely feral. The song was already my favorite on the album and then they went and released this?!?! It's so hot?! So Sexy!?!! I have an irrational fear that KQ will take it away because it's too perfect and sexy and wonderful and we don't deserve it. I was a Wooyoung/Seonghwa bias beforehand but now it's a four-way tie because holy shit have you seen them???
Tumblr media
2. BTBT - B.I (Performance Ver.) - This was the first non-BTS video I became obsessed with, again after falling in love with the song and overplaying it (it was my top-played song of 2022). The dance is amazing, the way they flow, and it's such a simple video (the official video has cool cyberpunk vibes) but it works. This is the only video I've ever watched derivative videos for (dance covers, reactions) because I just can't get enough of it. (gif from the official vid bc the performance vid is criminally under-giffed)
Tumblr media
3. Black Swan - BTS - Again, another one where the song got me first. The aesthetic of this video is just so good. I mean, the corsets speak for themselves, but I love how Jimin's amazing dancing gets such a highlight, the backdrops for Yoongi's meaningful verse, how good they all look. The dancing is great, the setting is beautiful, I can rewatch this ten times in a row and still want to watch it again.
Tumblr media
4. Move - Taemin - Soooo good. Taemin is considered one of the best dancers in k-pop and he is showing you exactly why in this video. I love him embracing his androgyny here, with the more feminine dance moves and outfit silhouettes. The song is one of my favorites of all time and the video does it complete justice.
Tumblr media
5. Rover - Kai - Hot hot hot. Kai. Shirtless. Blond. Those sunglasses?! I didn't like the dance much at first but it has really grown on me over time. Also, apparently this song is a cover/remake?
Tumblr media
6. Super - Seventeen - You know, I can't figure out why I love this video so much. Like it's super basic as a concept - just all of them and a whole heap of dancers in one scene. But it works. As soon as they revealed Woozi being held up like he's on a throne with his little smirk, I knew I was done. The dance is so fun and I never get tired of watching this one.
Tumblr media
7. Daechwita - Agust D - It's hard to decide between this and Haegeum, but this is the one that starts the story and my Agust D obsession, so obviously I had to choose it. I love the concept and how he lays out the Agust D story in just one mv. Royal Gangster Yoongi is just hnnng. I love the power here.
Tumblr media
8. God's Menu - Stray Kids - This one is just super fun. I love all the different outfits - and like, Han in the chef's outfit is top-tier Han, he looks so hot.
Tumblr media
9. Shalala - Taeyong - This is one of the most fun music videos I've ever seen. I love all of the different versions of Taeyong and he's the only idol I've seen pull off that shade of lime-green hair. The macarena dance should not work at all and yet it does.
Tumblr media
10. Hip - Mamamoo - They slaaayyy in this video. I'm so obsessed with Queen Hwasa literally spitting on her haters. Moonbyul is amazing as always, I love how they have her in various roles that are typically male "anything you can do, I can do better" vibes. Also I really want to dye my hair the same shade as Whee-In's in this video.
Tumblr media
11. Don't Call Me - Shinee - I call this the 'weird hat video'. Their hats are ridiculous. And you can tell Minho is really feeling it, just look at the gif. I love it.

I Need To Talk About These Requests (8/13/21)
So I reopened my requests yesterday and have already gotten A LOT. Below are anonymous requests I’ve received that I need to address. This is not EVERY request I’ve gotten just the ones I need to talk about, so if you made a request and don’t see it below don’t worry. It just means I’m probably going to do it.
Anonymous said:
Could you do Maia Mitchell from teen beach movie in the slumber party scene with the green nightie and hair curlers? For story it could be a boy being forced to get ready for a costume party as a girls but doesn't realize that the nightie and curlers ARE THE COSTUME
So towards the end of September I have captions queued that are remakes from my first tg caps blog. One of those remakes has EXACTLY this image in it so I can’t do exactly what you’re asking BUT I do have an idea for a Teen Beach Movie themed costume party cap that’ll be similar in spirit so I’ll type that up and get it in the queue for October. Hope that’s alright.
Anonymous said:
Hello was wondering if you could do a caption of betty white or is she like too old or something? The idea I had was a college D -bag makes a joke about the elderly and wakes up in an old folks home as betty and to make matters worse keeps getting entangled with horny old dudes
This is a little outside of my comfort zone tbh, sorry. :(
Anonymous said:
Could u please do Geena Davis from Beetlejuice u could like play into the whole ghost thing have it be a guy who died seeing his vengeful ex wife pay off the mortician to feminize his corpse and then lie to all his friends saying he was a closeted sissy which also turns his ghost to look like him feminized
To be honest I’m...not going to do this. The element with the corpse and the character actually being dead just makes me incredibly uncomfortable. Sorry hon. :(
Anonymous said:
Hey, thanks for making those captions I asked for of Amy and Kristen. They are good but could you kindly (at least for the Kristen one) just fix the name issue. Its really good, its just the name George is taking me out of it you know? Also in regards to the Amy one, when I dream of being feminized I don't want to be submissive to men only to women. So the idea of wanting/taking D is not something that appeals to me. Again I appreciate the work its just these issues that kept them from perfect.
So the unfortunate truth is once I make a caption I can’t go back and just change the text or something. Making a change like this requires remaking the entire caption from scratch. Especially the Amy Adams one you’re talking about took a lot of work because of the alternating text color. If I have time I’ll try to fix the Kristen Stewart one but I’m already getting a lot of requests so I won’t be able to do it right away. Sorry sweetie. :/
Anonymous said:
Can you make a cap with Mabel the singer
I have no idea who this is, sorry.
Anonymous said:
My birthday is soon could you do something on the 18th
I mean, I have captions in the queue for the 18th of August and September but it’s too late to write something new for that day if that’s what you’re asking.
Anonymous said:
More curly hair / humidity / hair salon captions <3
So I’ve been getting a lot of requests like this for the past few months and I SUSPECT it’s the same person. I might be wrong, but although I’ll keep this in mind going forward I’m not going to write a bunch of hair themed captions. Maybe like one for October or November. Especially because some of them haven’t been received too well & it bums me out. So yes you can expect to see some hair themed captions in the future but I’m sorry, it just won’t be top priority.
Anonymous said:
Can you do a sequel to the threesome caption and they guy can call his friend over and make it a 4some so that the sissy isnt left out
Are you talking about the game 3Way? Maybe eventually I’ll write a 4Way game but right now I’ve got all my games set until the end of October so you may have to be patient.

Movie Review: Scoob! (Spoilers)
Tumblr media
Spoiler Warning: Alright so this isn’t the type of movie that really warrants two separate reviews, but because it was only released recently I feel a spoiler warning is warranted as I will be talking about specific points in the movie. So if you haven’t yet seen Scoob! and don’t want anything ruined before you do, go and watch then come back.
General Reaction:
So, I’m having a hard time really getting to grips with my enjoyment level of this movie. Because while I don’t think this was a bad movie by any means, I always wouldn’t rank it as one of my favourites particularly with this new wave of nostalgia-based movies that seems to be a thing in recent years.
Maybe the problem is I am not an avid Scooby-Doo fan, a lot of people may think that is sacrilege and I did grow up watching the original Scooby-Doo shows and movies, but I wasn’t as into it as I was other Cartoon Network shows or even other Hanna-Barbera properties.
On that note, something that fascinated me about Scoob! in its promo campaign outside of it being a stunning CG-Animation movie was the inclusion of other Hanna-Barbera properties. In the trailer it is simply Dynomutt, Blue Falcon and Dick Dastardly, the former two who I believe were spin-off characters of Scooby-Doo originally and Dick Dastardly who of course is Dick Dastardly. Wacky Races and its spin-off Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines were shows I was an avid fan of, but once you see the movie and you realise that Warner Bros. Animation is really pushing for a Hanna-Barbera cinematic universe to stem from this with the amount of references and cameos of other characters and properties it is fascinating to me.
For instance, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 attempted something similar by effectively shouting about the fact that this movie was supposed to not only set up a third Spider-Man movie but also a Sinister Six movie and a Black Cat movie, then it was revealed Venom and Carnage were supposed to come into play, but then the whole thing got canned because the movie tried doing too much too soon.
Here though, they are subtle references that, unless you know the characters, don’t really register. I mean one or two are really obvious like having this universe’s version of Captain Caveman be somewhat of an antagonist here...I will be talking about him further down...but there are also just simply posters and name references that catch your eye if you know the characters. I don’t know every Hanna-Barbera character but the one that did catch my eye was a cardboard cutout of Hong-Kong Phooey.
As for the actual movie from a storytelling perspective, again I never really thought there was anything that grand about Scooby-Doo in terms of how they told a story. It was one of the first “monster of the week” shows in how formulaic it was and there was almost always a predictable formula in how each character would play their part.
In hindsight to that, I do appreciate both this movie and the first live-action Scooby-Doo movie for actually making that a satirical plot point, but in not having that much of a plot to base the movie on...I mean you can tell this is really an origin story of sorts in that if they are planning a cinematic universe this is that first rock, but unlike Iron Man they never had that hook that made you want to see the story continue.
I guess you could compare it in-house to what the DCEU did with Man of Steel. I didn’t really need more from after seeing that movie but I did want to see what this universe’s versions of some of my favourite DC Characters would be like, in a way this is similar.
It does sound stupid but the plot very much feels like a Scooby-Doo movie plot, in that the movie opens with that classic “monster of the week” unmasking, but the main threat of the movie is a real monster with some type of supernatural mystical twist.
But also, in adding the entire universe of Hanna-Barbera characters to that, you also have the most blatant in-movie Warner Bros. promo campaign with so many of the studio’s other properties being name-dropped it was borderline laughable.
In terms of the actual movie experience, this isn’t the first time I’ve watched a movie for the first time not in the cinema but knowing that the movie should have been released in cinemas rather than me simply not seeing it for any reason was rather surreal and, I do feel that this is the type of movie that warrants an audience viewing rather than just me watching it in my bedroom.
I also feel I would have enjoyed it a lot more with an audience, particularly an audience that doesn’t mind slightly dated, cheesy or somewhat really obvious plot points at times. I kind of predicted every major plot twist in this movie, although a couple of them I feel the audience is supposed to know from the get go otherwise why make it so obviously unless your pandering to a really young audience that don’t have two brain cells to rub together and tell that Fred with a really sinister grin full-naming Scooby is really the main villain in disguise particularly when you just saw him do the same thing ten minutes before.
But anyway, rather then going character by character in this spoilery section I’m going to break it down into what I liked and what I didn’t like. There was nothing I loved but also nothing I hated.
What I Liked:
But in terms of the overall message of the movie, Scoob! really hammers home that old-school notion of Man’s Best Friend, and not just with Shaggy and Scooby which is all I will say on that.
Tumblr media
Alright so this movie is obviously called Scoob! and focuses on Scooby as effectively the main character as well as his friendship with Shaggy. The two really are one character in that you can’t really imagine one without the other, and the movie really explores that in both good and bad ways...we’ll get to the bad.
As a dog lover and dog owner myself, this movie really spoke to me on that level and the bond that Shaggy and Scooby share I finally understood. In all other media for me it’s more a case of Scooby and Shaggy just being friends but here that bond goes deeper because you see them meet and you see them essentially become family.
Tumblr media
I really didn’t like the plot device of making them fall out only to have them make up later, it just is a very lazy trope at this point particularly as I’ve already seen it in a Scooby-Doo property before.
But they do kind of explain why it is necessary and why it happens because while they do have their friends at Mystery Inc. Shaggy and Scooby had no one before having each other, so when one feels like they’re drifting apart something flips and they get very possessive.
Also that ending, I mentioned this movie has a lot of things thrown in but while Hanna-Barbera and Warner Bros. references are kind of in sync with this movie, how about Greek mythology to the point where they effectively summon the Underworld to Earth!
I’m a massive Greek mythology fan, and seeing the main monster of this movie actually being from Greek mythology and animated so beautifully is why this is in the good section, even if the Underworld actually looked like the Cave of Wonders from Aladdin.
Tumblr media
The voice cast for this movie is also unexpectedly brilliant. A lot of people may complain that the original cast who are still all alive, I think, weren’t asked back but outside of Frank Welker as Scooby I don’t think you really need them.
Zac Efron is one of those actors at the moment that can do no wrong for me, he can do comedy, he can do musical, he can do drama, he can do serious gritty drama. I really loved him as Fred here.
Will Forte didn’t fool me into thinking it was Matthew Lillard returning to the role because I feel his voice here wasn’t as squeeky or high as Lillard’s, but he still did a great job, Ian Armitage voicing the kid version was great too.
Tumblr media
Gina Rodriguez is a choice for Velma not just because like a lot of these characters the classic Velma’s voice is very distinct and almost iconic but to actively race-bend the character and make her Latina I thought added some much needed diversity to this movie and the Hanna-Barbera universe in general.
Jason Isaacs as Dick Dastardly was really a fantastic choice both for the actor and for the character. There were times particularly towards the start when he made Dick sound like Captain Hook and even his design here is very Captain Hook/Gru esk rather than the lanky Dick Dastardly design, and I was missing his classic hat. But for me Jason Isaacs is at his best when he’s playing a villain.
Tumblr media
On that note, Dee Dee Sykes and Dynomutt I thought were absolutely wonderful here, I’d actually say these two and Dick Dastardly were my favourite characters. All the D’s apparently.
Not only was it a teachable moment for me because I had to look up someone I was pretty sure was someone I thought they were in terms of me knowing Dee Dee originated in Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels, but here was on Blue Falcon’s crew with Dynomutt and no reference to Captain Caveman whatsoever I was okay with.
Also, I cannot believe I am saying this but, this movie actually made me like a Ken Jeong performance. I cannot stand this man, I do not find him funny, I do not find him entertaining, yet something about him voicing Dynomutt who originally I swear what meant to have the brain capacity I associate with Ken Jeong, but to make me like the character was impressive.
The final thing on my good list to mention is that opening sequence, after the very heartwarming opening scene of Scooby and Shaggy meeting and a Halloween setting of the team first coming together to battle a monster of the week in a It inspired haunted house, they show a shot-for-shot remake of the opening credits for the OG cartoon which is rather clever.
The only other voice actor to mention in the good section for me is Simon Cowell, not only do they have Simon playing himself in such a brilliant way but also his son Eric also voices a character, very brief and not central to the plot, but really a cute moment. Also I don’t know why but Simon in voice over sounds almost like a parody to Simon in live-action.
Tumblr media
What I Didn’t Like:
Tumblr media
Alright so these are really knitpicks but I think they’re worth noting in terms of moving this universe forward.
Scooby Doo is a dog, a talking dog yes but a dog none the less...so why the heck does he talk so much. I mean granted this is a universe with a robotic dog and a biped martial arts vigilante dog...but they never genuinely explain how Scooby can talk and while it’s understandable in the original cartoons as it’s mostly groans and the odd mispronounced word...here he was having monologues...also as a puppy he should have had a puppy voice, just saying.
As mentioned, I never really got into this franchise when I was younger so outside of Scooby and Shaggy I don’t really know these characters...but was Fred always so weirdly obsessed with the Mystery Machine? I get being happy with your vehicle but I thought Fred and Daphne were supposed to be the ship of this property...not Fred and the van.
I really really really really really really really really did not like the cop out ending they had, I didn’t let them get away with it in Stitch Has a Glitch and I am not letting them get away with it here. This big dramatic heartstring pulling thing happens, yet it’s almost immediately rectified with no solid explanation other then “we need to wrap things up”.
So to see one of these properties not authentically translate I thought was annoying, by which I mean Captain Caveman. Looks wise he is on point and I am fully aware that Mel Blanc is not going to rise up from the grave to voice him again, but the very essence of him being a caveman in his speech was not there for me here.
It would have been better if they allowed some time to go past and let the heroes stew in their sorrow before somehow discovering a way to fix things, but no it is literally as soon as the bad thing happens we are supposed to believe this was thought out?
My final thing is this. The Hanna-Barbera properties I grew up with are Scooby-Doo which I liked, Top Cat which I loved, Wacky Races which I loved, The Jetsons which I wasn’t as acquainted with as I would have liked to be, The Flinstones which I loved, Hong Kong Phooey which I liked and Captain Cavemani which I liked.
Tumblr media
I’m sure Tracy Morgan is a likeable comedian, but then play on the comedy of the character and have him be like he originally was.
Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe:
I would love to see The Flinstones, Top Cat and the other Wacky Racers get this movie treatment. In fact if they market it correctly, Warner Bros. Animation could have a different genre movie for each property, be that comedy for Flinstones, action for Hong Kong Phooey, maybe a heist movie for Top Cat, sci-fi for the Jetsons, the list goes on.
Tumblr media
As mentioned before, I do not see that groundwork for a cinematic universe here. Rather than it showing signs of being like the MCU I think it does stick more in-house as the DCEU by simply giving me the want to see other Hanna-Barbera characters inhabit this universe.
Do I feel this is the start of something big? No, do I feel there is potential here absolutely.
Overall I rate the movie a solid 7/10, it’s enjoyable, it’s cute, it’s family-friendly and I believe that’s its USP. It’s not a groundbreaking movie but it does have that cinematic universe potential and, as mentioned, I do look forward to see if more Hanna-Barbera properties get the same treatment.
So that’s my review of Scoob! What did you guys think? Post your comments and check out more Movie Reviews and other posts.

F/O February Day 1: Reverse Self Ship
welcome to F/O February y’all!! :D for this prompt, I decided to do a little drabble! because I felt it would be easier to explain that way XD” honestly the reverse selfship AU is so good??? so here’s my contribution for today! XD (warning for brief mentions of self-harm and other injuries, other than that this should be a perfectly safe read!)
“Rex Rex Rex! It’s on!! Quick, we gotta catch it!!!”
           “Okay Emmet, I’m coming, jeez!”
Rex hoisted himself off his bed with a low grunt as Emmet scurried to the living room couch. He knew how excited his brother got over his favorite show. Four years ago, popular sitcom Where Are My Pants? had been his all-time favorite television series, but then his heart was stolen by a quirky cartoon called Light in the Darkness that he stumbled upon by chance. The show followed an adventurous, tomboyish young woman dubbed Light and her interactions in the secret world of monsters of all kinds, fighting the evil ones and befriending the good ones. There was quite an uproar within the fandom when the titular lead came out as agender a year before, and quite a bit of discourse since she still considered herself female in a vaguer sense. But none of that mattered to Emmet. He loved the character for her personality, and couldn’t care less about her gender or lack thereof.
Oh, he loved her alright… his Tumblr was filled with screenshots and fanart of Light, he had all the merch of her he could afford, he even had a plush of her, which he was currently holding in his arms. He was immediately attached to her as soon as he got into the series; at first he thought she was just a comfort character, but before long, he realized he was actually flat-out in love with her. He had always gushed about her, and occasionally other characters, to Rex, and constantly pushed him to watch it. Rex always listened to Emmet’s gushing and supported his love for the character, but for the longest time, he didn’t get around to watching it. He was in a terrible mental place at the time; he engaged in risky and destructive habits, he drank, he smoked, he self-harmed, he got in trouble with the law, and developed other unhealthy coping mechanisms for his insecurities and mental issues. He was a troubled soul who was paranoid that their mutual circle of friends hated him and that he’d never be good enough for anyone. He distanced himself from everyone he loved—even his dear brother Emmet, with whom he had always been joined at the hip before. It was only when he got involved in a reckless motorcycle accident after an argument with Emmet that Rex realized just how much danger he was putting himself in, and how much he was worrying his brother. After that, he vowed to better himself and get some help. He also moved in with Emmet as his insistence, saying he wouldn’t worry as much and that he could help Rex get on track. That turned out to work like a charm, and he was happier than he’d been in a long time ever since.
It was only then that he was finally able to watch an episode of his brother’s favorite show with him. He didn’t know exactly what he was expecting from the cartoon, but it certainly surpassed whatever those expectations were. Rex was surprised that Light in the Darkness contained more adult-oriented humor, as Emmet typically didn’t watch those kinds of shows. And he also understood why Emmet loved Light so much—she was a goofy, funny, charming, kind, and humble hero who knew what it was like to feel like a nobody or that you’d never be good enough. It also happened to be an episode in which Light tried to talk to and reform one of the main villains, and she gave a clumsy but convincing speech about how she could relate to the villains struggles, but wished he would handle them in a way that benefited both parties. Rex didn’t want to admit it, but that damn speech pulled at his heartstrings. And by the end of the episode, Rex found himself smitten with Light as well. At first he tried to hide his feelings from Emmet, thinking he would be angry with him for encroaching on his selfship. But Emmet did find out eventually—and he was ecstatic. He was beyond happy to share her with his brother, as that meant they could gush about her to each other more often, and soon the brothers agreed that Light had enough room in her heart for the both of them. After coming to that conclusion, they created their own self-shipping sideblog that they co-modded together.
Now Emmet wasn’t exactly the creative type, and sometimes he was jealous of all the great artists and writers within the community, but he did enjoy remaking the three of them in Picrews and other character customization games. He also gushed about Light a lot, using lots of capitals, exclamation points, and heart emojis in said gushes. Rex, on the other hand, was beginning to dabble in photo editing, so he took a screenshot of Light and Photoshopped her into a picture of him and Emmet, among other such edits. He gushed about her too, of course, but his were more straightforward and consistent to whatever specific quality of hers he was talking about, with less weird emojis.
Neither of them told anybody in their respective workplaces about their love. Emmet tried way too hard to fit in and was already seen as weird despite that; he didn’t want to add onto that as a grown man who was hopelessly in love with a cartoon character. Meanwhile Rex didn’t give a damn about fitting in or what his coworkers thought of him, he just wasn’t the type to open up to people he didn’t know well enough. However, their mutual circle of friends knew very well about their selfships with Light, and they all shipped them. Their best friend Lucy had even created a few artworks of the three of them, which they both proudly displayed on their blog (with proper credit, of course). They had been doing this for almost a year, and at this point they were perfectly content opting out dating real people in favor of shipping themselves with a fictional character.
“It’s a new episode!!” Emmet squealed, plopping onto the couch and kicking his feet excitedly. “I can’t wait to see what she does today!”
“You think she’s finally gonna give Lord Beelzebub what’s coming to him?” Rex asked.
“I hope so! Now that guy is a real jerk.” Emmet puffed his cheeks out. This particular villain was beyond hope of reformation—Light tried, multiple times, but it was clear that he wouldn’t be happy until his evil deeds were done. Emmet pouted very briefly over this fact before perking up to sing and shimmy in his seat to the theme song. Rex chuckled at how excitable his brother could be. He kept his mouth shut after that, as Emmet hated when people tried to talk over his show.
The episode started out with Light hanging out with some of her monster friends and being her usual dorky self, but that only lasted a couple minutes before she was alerted of some other villain’s plan. The scene then transitioned to a dramatic montage of Light putting on cool-looking armor, then panning from her toes to her head as she heroically posed in the armor.
“Wow…” Emmet swooned. Rex gave a low whistle.
She only stood like that for a few brief seconds before random pieces of the armor suddenly fell off and clattered to the ground, much to Light’s dismay. “Aw damnit, no! Get back here!” Light complained as she crouched to pick up the fallen pieces. This elicited a giggle from Emmet and a chuckle from Rex. “Dork…” Rex lovingly muttered.
By the next scene, she has duct tape all over her armor, making the brothers laugh again. She and her monster friends were devising a plan of attack when Emmet’s phone buzzed. “Shush,” he said, keeping his eyes glued to the screen. He was mesmerized as Light led her friends into battle, but before they could see just who they were up against…
“Gahh, commercials,” Rex groaned, muting the TV. “This is why watching things online is so much better.”
“Yeah, but this is a new episode, we gotta catch it as it airs and support the creators!” Emmet argued.
“Yeah okay. Aren’t you gonna answer that text message?”
“I suppose I could since it’s a commercial break.” Emmet reached into his jeans pocket. “But whoever it was should no better than to bother me during my show!” He pouted as he checked his phone. “Oh, it’s Lucy…” He opened the message, and a mere second went by before Emmet cracked up laughing.
“Must’ve been a good one,” Rex chuckled.
“Oh my gosh, Rex, look at this!” Emmet laughed, shoving the phone in Rex’s face. It turned out Lucy sent a meme that read “when you storm a dragon’s cave and discover it’s hoarding mac and cheese” with a redraw of Light in the “it’s free real estate” meme. People who weren’t fans of the show wouldn’t understand the meme, but it made Rex burst into raucous laughter.
“Oh my god!” he roared. “She would totally say that!”
“She would!” Emmet giggled. “That’s amazing.”
“Our datefriend is high-key a dork,” Rex laughed. That statement sent Emmet into another fit of giggles.
           “She’s our dork though.”
           “Hell yeah.”
“I just wish I knew her real name in full.”
Rex sat up, surprised. “What do you mean, ‘in full’?”
“Well, remember in Clash of the Chimeras when she was signing the form thing for that order? She could only write the letter K before she got interrupted by the gremlin breaking things in the other room. So that means her real name must start with a K, and we don’t know anything else about it.”
Rex nodded. “And you would rather call her that because…?”
“Because it would help me feel closer to her.” Emmet held his plush a little tighter.
“Well, you could always give her a headcanon name. or just call her K until her real name is fully revealed, if that ever happens.”
Emmet pondered this for a moment. “I suppose that could work.” Suddenly, he perked up. “Oh! It’s back on!” He hurriedly un-muted the TV and his eyes were glued to the screen once more.
Soon enough, Light and her friends were battling the villain, and at some point, her left gauntlet fell off. Emmet gasped as the villain used this opportunity to slash his claw across her arm.
“Oh no…” Emmet whimpered. Rex lightly traced his own scar on his shoulder from his motorcycle accident. The two were at the edge of their seats until the end of the fight scene—the villain was defeated, but Light was still bleeding. Her worried friends crowded around her, but she still seemed in high spirits.
           “Guys, I’m fine!” she insisted.
           “You’re bleeding,” a friend argued.
“Just out of my arm. I’ve bled from far worse places.”
Emmet made a choked-out noise in surprise.
“Oh my god,” Rex laughed.
Still, Light let her monster friends bandage her up. Luckily, there were plenty more laughs to be had by the end of the episode. As the credits rolled, Emmet kicked his feet excitedly again.
“Ahh, that was so awesome!”
“As it always is.”
“Poor Light though. She doesn’t deserve any nasty scars.”
“No, she doesn’t,” Rex agreed. “But it won’t get her down. Knowing her, she’ll probably be proudly toting it and bragging about her battle by the next episode.”
“Yeah, probably,” Emmet chuckled. “But if she was real, or if I lived in her world, I’d take care of every single injury she got and kiss it better!” His loving smile gradually morphed into a longing frown. “I’d give anything for that.”
Rex patted Emmet’s back. “Me too, kid. Me too.”

Earlier this week I was supposed to have a horror movie marathon with a friend and tonight I was supposed to go out. And, also thanks to the coronavirus, I’m not sure if I’m going into work for the next week or so. My hands are getting dry from all the washing. Also, I may have to break Lent now, ugh.
Good things:
Even though one of my friends is home from college because her school closed, we’ll probably get to hang out soon.
Lady Gaga released Stupid Love. Sometimes all a music video needs is a bunch of people in rad outfits dancing. I want her pink spiky belt. Chromatica comes out next month.
The Birthday Massacre’s Diamonds comes out this month. Two new albums from my favorite musical artists, yesh. Sadly they’ve had to postpone their American tour, though.
Yesterday I was down to clown and watched Joker and the first half of It: Chapter Two. The first one was fantastic and tied everything so neatly into Batman. Good job, DC. I already have Birds of Prey on hold at the library. Need more clown fuel. Tonight I’m going to finish It and read The World of It.
After reading the first three volumes of My Hero Academia, I have a crush on the handy guy in need of moisturizer.
Oracea seems to be working. I’m on my period but I haven’t really broken out.
Okay, movies I want to talk about!
Orphan
I watch way too many horror movies to get easily scared by most of them. But Orphan was actually terrifying. Esther is a grade-A abuser, which made her a great villain. She did have a good point about euthanizing the bird, though. Her glow-in-the-dark paintings were cool, too. Nightmare Fuel Coloring Book is a great horror trope.
Kate actually had a good way of telling Max about the stillbirth. One thing I didn’t like was how nobody thought to use a breathalyzer.
The Blob 1988
The theater scene seemed like it should have had a seizure warning.
I was surprised that I preferred the 1958 original. (Still a better movie than Ghostbusters II, though.) But the remake is scarier ‘cause the Blob doesn’t just absorb. It visibly digests. I watched this while it was raining. I assumed it wouldn’t like being rained on, but the Blob can swim.
The characters could have made jewelry from the frozen Blob pieces and given it to people they don’t like.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
I’d been wanting to see this for a while. I already know a little about the production history, so I felt bad when Sally was screaming at the dinner table. Leatherface appears thirty-five minutes in. The grandfather was the creepiest character. I like how Bubba looked after him and pat him gently. And tried to help him brain Sally.
Hm, not really sure what to say about this movie. I’m not the only one who seemed to think this seemed anti-meat industry. XD
Velvet Buzzsaw
Modern art galleries… so much pretentiousness… Better art online.
Since Spider-Man: Homecoming I’ve been into Jake Gyllenhaal. I wish Mr. Gyllenhaal would lounge around nud3 in my living room. :( That scene where he goes to see Josephina and learns she hooked up with Damrish was amazing.
I didn’t recognize Natalia Dyer with glasses.
Hellboy
So much for top Naz/i assasin, eh Karl? He would have been so cool if he wasn’t a Naz/i. Disfigurements, mask, armor… DARN IT.
Uh… I didn’t really write a lot of notes for this. I like how jealous Hellboy was of John. Some good one liners, like the protagonist’s “prudishness.”
Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark 2010
This movie reminded me that I prefer smooth peanut butter. Crunchy makes me feel like I’m eating baby teeth.
In that atmosphere, if a voice told me to reach down, I simply would not do it. Even if it sounded like it belonged to a really sexy man. Uh… I’m just going to make a bulleted list.
Teddy bear was nice.
Sally’s mom taught her to hate gluten, but not stranger danger?
Malevolent fairies! :D
When I first saw the trailer I was afraid of the dude under the covers. Now that I’m a grown woman, I would give him a disciplinary hug.
I want that mural.
Kim gets corrupted off-screen, for anyone who’s into that.
They made a book. And I also want to watch the original movie.
Inferno
Suspiria was great and I really liked this a lot, too. Sometimes the plot doesn’t have to be the point of a movie. The lighting! More movies should strive to be this atmospheric. Needs me some more giallo. I’m just going to do another bulleted list.
I like how Rose doesn’t bother taking her clothes off before submerging herself.
It’s nice to know beauty queens aren’t entirely unblemished.
Poor Carlo. He just kept a scared lady company without flirting.
Them still cat eyes.
Elise is a coward but at least she admits it.
I wish I had a clowder of attack kittens.
My least favorite character ended up being Kazanian. Too bad the cats couldn’t be saved but at least rats can feast on his corpse.
*queue operatic rock when Mark follows the kitty*
Well, I was expecting Varelli to be the waterlogged corpse at the beginning.
I would probably try to suckle and spit out injected poison too, Mark.
Song of the Day: “Brave New Love” by Alien, from The Blob soundtrack.

So a lot of people are probably gonna hate me for what I'm about to say. I'm actually a bit worried about how many, but we're gonna do this anyway because I need this off my chest now that s3 of Skam France is close to its end(it hurts just saying it).
Actually Yann's "Episode 9, it's almost over" made me emotional enough to write all of this. So thank him for that. Yeah.
I don't even know my exactly point yet, but I'm gonna start ranting: I love s3 of Skam France. I will be honest, I haven't seen s1 and s2 yet. I have heard so many bad things about it, and to begin with, I was one of those people who didn't understand why we needed remakes of the same story. I was one of those people. But I realise I have been TOTALLY wrong. Skam France is the only remake I have really watched through, and then the OG. I have seen some of Skam Italia, but it didn't capture me the same way. As soon as I started Skam France s3, I was mesmerized. I didn't know it was possible to get THIS invested.
Back when I just started Skam OG, I also first found out about the show during s3. It was everywhere, and as someone who watched Eyewitness at the time, and is still a Shadowhunters fan, it popped up on tumblr. I believe that was where I saw it first. Then I went to youtube and started watching, and I was hooked like no other. The show had an earthi-ness to it(I don't think that's a word lol). I related to the characters. And I just generally really liked it.
However, the difference between back then and now, was that I wasn't really 'a part of' the fandom as I feel like I am now. I wasn't reblogging stuff and commenting and all those things. I wasn't very active on social media, so I watched the show and...yeah. I didn't really have anyone to freak out over it with, or rather I did, I just didn't use it at the time, not thinking about it. But I don't know how many times I have rewatched scenes from s3.
S3 has a very special place in my heart. Not only do we have Evak, who are incredible, but as mentioned it is the first season where I discovered Skam, and my two best friends have MI. Even as MI too, so I could see that, like, feel it deeper than anything else, because of that. Therefore Even is also a very important character in the story for me.
Then I came across Skam France, after long long time of not being involved with anything Skam, and I can't even remember how I found it, but I'm SO happy I did. I came in around right before episode 7, I believe, so I haven't been here from the beginning, sadly. I kind of hate that to be honest, because it feels like everything have gone faster because of that. But that's not my point. My point is that I found out how much I actually love Skam France s3. Yes, it's the same story overall, but the actors, the cinematography, how deep they are going into the characters, how filled with emotion it is, everything. I love the changes they made to Even and Isak's characters too.
For example, the intensity of it all. You really feel everything. It's very emotion-filled, and I love when a series can do that to me. Also, how bold Lucas is and what a dork Eliott is, like, how can you not love them? Plus the chemistry Maxence and Axel has, both on screen and off screen. Their friendship is so pure. And Maxence's livestreams gives me life, seriously. The whole raccoon and hedgehog. Another big thing I love, which we have seen in this latest clip, is that there is not a division between the boy and girl squad. They are one big group.
So I'm just gonna say it straight out: At a lot of points, I like Skam France's s3 more than the OG Skam's s3. Now, please don't get mad. I know what you're thinking, and I agree. All of the remakes have their own charm, their own ups and downs, none are better than the other. But taking in a personal opinion, in this case mine, I as a person likes Skam France s3 more in several ways. Like that Lucas hangs out with the boy AND girlsquad and supports them both. As I mentioned above, there is no division. This is one of the things that I have never liked about the OG.
But it's not 'just' about the show to me, I think: It's also about watching the live streams, seeing the interviews, seeing gifs, reblogging and commenting with you guys, the fandom. I didn't do all of that when I saw the OG. I didn't have that 'bond' with the show. But I have that bond with Skam France. I go on here to find updates all the time, and I get so emotionally invested in the story, and can see others doing that as well. I don't know, it gives me a much different feeling than what I had with the OG. Somehow this bond is just stronger, and a lot of it is thanks to you guys. I feel like I'm actually a part of this, like many others. Which also means it's so hard for me to say goodbye to Lucas. I loved his season, and I still do. I have already rewatched the clips too many times for my own good. Axel is such an incredible actor, but so is Maxence, and if I hadn't found Skam France, I wouldn't have found out how amazing these two precious people are. And how much I could freak out over instagram posts ahaha xD. But it's the fact that I am that invested that it's so hard to say goodbye, and I have to remind myself that it's not a goodbye. You guys aren't going away. You're still gonna be there, and so is Lucas and Elliot, but this time they will be in the background. That is okay. I will miss them deeply because they hold a special place in my heart, as mentioned earlier s3 is the first season where I found out about Skam in the first place, and my two best friends have MI, so Eliott's character also have great meaning to me. But they won't go away. They will still be there.
I think what I have to get used to is the lack of Maxence and Axel. Livestreams, interviews and such. I hope they won’t go away completely because they make me so happy. They are like a walking sun for me lol.
Also, I am really hoping that we can get that s5, and that it will be about Eliott. I want to know more about MI, but not from reading on a website, I want to actually see it being represented in a good and healthy way on TV, which we sadly don't get a lot, if at all, and I don't want him to just be 'Lucas' bipolar boyfriend'. No, that man has SO much more to tell! Please David, Niels and Julie: Give him the chance to. So let's knock the views out of the park, and show them just how much we want it! :D
Yeah, that got a little side tracked I know, but that is honestly also a part of my point: Because if we get an Eliott season, a character that means so much to me, that would make me thrilled, and I will be so happy, also on behalf of my friends. Really, we need to have MI shown in a healthy way, and I feel like this is an opportunity we can't miss. Plus, it will be a season that hasn't been made before, because it's not part of the OG, and I find that really exciting!
So, short story told: I'm a mess, what a surprise, I love you guys, I love all of the cast, and I will miss Lucas' season way too much.

Skam Meeting @ Gaystatale - Part 2
In PART 1 I forgot to write that, when Pietro was asked how much of himself there is in Filippo he said that inevitabily, since he is part of LGBT portaying a gay man, there’s a bit of Pietro in Filippo.
Back to the where we left off:
- So basically the question was if Ludo thought Italy was ready for S2, and he said that yes of course, there have been LGBT characters even on Rai (Italy’s national broadcaster)
- So Izzy (the girl interviewing Ludo and Pietro) praised how down to earth and real the language feels in Skam Italy. Ludovico was glowing as said it was the best praise he could get, because making his characters sound 17 and from Rome when he 35 and from Milan... Then he admitted that he got there, to deliver that ‘realism’ thanks to a long process that he and his crew have been taught by the Norwegian team, through interviews and meetings. Still, the realness has also been brought by the actors themselves who had room to improvise (and Bessegato downright refuses to write “ao’ “ and “daje” on his scripts) and showcased their talent (ALL of them).
- For the Pride speech, since he is a straight man, he felt that the best solution was to simply translate from the Norwegian and then let Pietro act it out as he saw fit.
- The only one for whom it is a bit different is Beatrice, because Sana is very far from who she is as a person, so she needs a bit more guidance and to stick to the script.
- A lot of the moments and quotes that we love the most are improvised, a part from “zozzoni” who came from Bessegato himself.
- He concluded by saying “c’è tanto dei miei ragazzi in quello che sentite” awwwwww.... (”there a lot from/of my kids* in what you are hearing”)
*kids as in a gender neutral version of ‘guys & girls” *
- Then the clip with the Gay Test was shown, and he repeated what he had already said in Rome: he got a 2, so he had to take the test a couple of times to get a 0 and direct Fede to do the same.
- The clip was used to introduce a question about stereotypes and how much Bessegato felt the need to go against them and if he felt like he succeded.
He said that he felt like he did and it’s one of the aspects he is most careful about in Skam Italia (avoiding stereotypes) especially because all S3 by Julie Andem was about breaking the stereotypes concering two guys falling in love and how a gay guy is supposed to be.
That led him to the choice of having the coming out while the boys where playing FIFA, because it felt like the symbol of “a hetosexual friendship between two guys”... But he is aware that now and then “qualche cazzata l’avremo pure detta” (we probably ended up saying some bullshit).
The stereotypes can be true, after all, but it’s important to show some other aspects of reality as well.
And of course Filippo (and Pietro) listen to Britney Spears ;D
- And that’s where Pietro added his bit about not fighting the stereotypes by marginalizing/hurting/insulting those who fit them. If the message you are trying to deliver is meaningful, you need to handle the way you communicate with great care or it will get lost.
A gay guy who is a effeminate or a lesbian who is a butch, for example, should be admired because they feel comfortable in their own skin and by the way who are we to judge others without knowing about their journey towards acceptance.
And what’s wrong by the way, about challenging some heteronormative macho behaviour (he used manspreading as an example: if one wants to be a decent human being and sit properly, he should, without worrying about not looking straight enough or something). No man really fits into the ‘alpha male’ stereotype, but straight men probably feel less bound to challenge it. And whilst his straight friend only cries when no one can see, in his own room, he feels free to do it in front of everyone, after spending two years crying his eyes out towards self-acceptance
- Bessegato knows how important it is for the audience to feel that the characters are relatable (then why doesn’t he get the need for rep? who knows) so, unless it’s a reality that he knows well by himself, he always speaks to people belonging to that community so that he can give a realistic picture. He referred to Sana again (which made us start wondering if he’s currently writing her season, huh ;) ?), saying how he is consulting with a Muslim friend of his.
- Pride clip, and Pietro underlined again how making it resonate so much as has been a team effort from everyone (writers, director, Federico, etc.)
- S2 has been written AFTER the 4th of March 2018, when we had the elections that would lead to the Salvini-Di Maio government. Izzy asked why they left Italian politics out of the show, he basically said it’s more important to show people something about worlds/realities they didn’t know about before, making them deep and meaniful so that people can empathize. He got loads of messages from people saying that thanks to Skam they had the courage to come out to their friends and family, that’s the kind of response he wishes for.
That’s what bringing politics into a series like Skam means to him: affect the society around you by showing and encouraging virtous behaviours (one of the reasons he decided not to change the coming out scene, though he was tempted too). Showing good people, instead of wasting time critizing the bad.
“I want to inspire, not to destroy” . And by the way, having a character insulting Lega (Salvini’s party) doesn’t do any good: who was already against him will say ‘yeah, I think so too’ and who supports him will go like ‘oh great, now they’re insulting me’ and it will only serve to radicalize the latter.
Again he talked about Sana and how to show a true friendship between her and the girls can come to be is more important than giving a judgement about our current political situation (giving how islamophobic Italian society can be, I do agree with him that Sana’s season is going to be quite important for our country)
- Pietro stressed that in our society, the coming out IS a political act. Trans’ bodies are a political act. Our identities, our lives... Just telling our stories is  a revolutionary political act. Every day we do politics just by being true to ourselves, not choosing a way that would be more comfortable and reassuring. Which doesn’t mean you are an asshole for not coming out of the closet, though.
- I don’t really know why he digressed by complaining about how we insult him and the cast when the clips don’t come out or things were better in the og and such, but he did.
- By the way they had Filippo saying “fascisti di merda” because Rome has a big problem with neo-nazis from Casapound beating people up in Gay Street, it wasn’t a jab to the government itself.
- Effettivamente: it was really important and meaningful clip for him. He was tempted to give it a dramatic turn, with Giovanni not accepting Martino straight away. He said ‘you generally use this trick: I’m not mad about the matter itself, but about you not telling me: it’s Fiction 101.’ and that it’s the kind of conflict that would be resolved pretty soon.
(Personally: I said that when Yann went to Lucas and said “tell us what’s wrong or solve whatever it’s going on and then come back to us”  he gave me the vibe of someone who would make a coming out about themselves, not necessarily in a bad way, but more like ‘why haven’t you told me before, am I such a bad friend???’ and I could tell without watching the show, but just that one clip... because it’s the way storytelling works)
- He praised David for changing the scene. He personally hasn’t seen Skam France - all directors basically mind their own business and take care of their own remake - but he gets that after SkamOG and SkamIT it was wise to have changes and that if it worked for Yann as a character then why not? The fact that we were still talking about it on Monday afternoon meant David’s change wasn’t that bad after all, huh?
He couldn’t go through with his idea because it would have been OOC for Giovanni to react that way, given how Ludovico Tersigni fleshed him out through S1 and S2 up to this clip.
Moreover, he felt like ending ep 6 on a sad note after all that happened to Martino at the end of ep 5 and up to Effettivamente would be too much.
Like Nicholas in the bloopers he said “He saw Rocco kissing his girlfriend”, instead of ‘Niccolò’, which made us all laugh ;D
- He said that he wants every remake of S3 to be loved and appreciated, given how important it is, that we shouldn’t make it into a challenge. The Norwegian team gave them Skam so that the message of love and acceptance could reach as many people as possible and that’s what all the directors care about (they sometimes give each other advice). So he personally will never take part in any feud against and back up who disses other remakes.
- Pietro: “there isn’t a ‘right’ formula. Personally, I cried while watching this clip. I wasn’t there when they shoot it so I saw it when it came out, just like you. Because its message is about the importance of communicating: Martino gets into a fight when he doesn’t know how to express his emotions, or he can’t, but then he bravely takes that little step that opens new scenarios to him... So, do we want to tell people that they are allowed to come out to their best friend and that the worst it can happen it’s telling them to fuck off? That sometimes people, even those you would never expect to, when they see that there’s something deep there, there’s a history behind it and a feeling and when you can get those emotions across to the ones you’re speaking to, then maybe it won’t result in being beaten up?
- Then every reaction, even a negative one, is still meaningful: it gives me more info about the person I came out to. Communicating opens the door to emphathy, which is also the reason why Filippo doesn’t take it to heart when Martino says those things during the Pride clip, because he knows Martino is in the middle of his journey and sees the potential in it. It’s about showing the shades of emotions that can happen while interacting.
- Ludovico said that we should be forgiving with Martino’s dad, since his reaction wasn’t that negative from an estranged father who doesn’t really communicate with his son. He said we shouldn’t stigmatize reactions that are not immediately 100% supportive and ideal.
Thanks Ludo, but no thanks. He might not be homophobic, but he still feel like an asshole to me.
- To him the crucial message of Skam is: people need people. Talk to them, you’ll find them more ready to listen than you’d expect. People are the solution, not the problem.
- Yes/No question to Pietro about Emma’s words to Martino in the last clip of episode 5... He said no, of course. People still care if you are gay in 2018/2019.
- How do they choose the music for Skam Italia? Well, it a lenghty and expensive (in terms of royalties) process and sometimes the songs we hear are not even their first choice but the 4th or 5th. Some of the proceedings became urban legends, like going to LA to get Britney’s approval to use one of her songs... Some are chosen by the music consultants, some are suggestions from Bessegato himself or the cast.
- Question about MI: he approached it with care, as Julie did in the original. He got some pointers from a psychiastrist on what he should modify to tell his story... He still ended up receiving a letter, recently, from an association of doctors who deal with these MI (he said ‘doctors’ not psychiatrists) telling him that he mixed elements from BPD and the bipolar disorder (and pointing out the inaccuracies of the OG as well, before someone uses this to diss on SkamiT) but that the end of the letter they thanked Skam because, apart from the inaccuracies it is good that someone talks about MIs a bit more in depth and that it doesn’t label people with MIs as ‘crazy’, people that you don’t wanna hang out with because they aren’t right in their heads but it’s rather a situation that can be dealt with, that can be managed and that have different levels of severity...
I also walked up to him later on to personally thank him about changing Nico’s MI, because after we discussed it and complained about the inaccuracies - he smiled when I said that - it led us all to get some more info and a deeper knowledge of BPD.
Okay, now that’s all X°D

@eponymous-rose is out tonight, so here I am instead, tiny-footed in her enormous...shoes? This metaphor’s escaped me.
Preshow is the crew filling a whiteboard with chat-directed drawings. It includes Mollymauk covered in pyramids, Jester’s lollipop, and Caleb on fire. You know, as it happens. Liam smiles very convincingly next to it.
Tumblr media
Anyway, tonight’s guests are Liam and Sam, who arrives late and brings his Emmy. This fool.
Tumblr media
Tonight’s announcements: new website! Critrole.com. It’ll have updates, news, events, and Sam suggests a daily vlog from BWF. The hardcover version of VM Origins will have its launch date announced this Thursday morning on said website. Liam pulls out a copy of the thing and it looks great. Also, everyone except Liam will be participating in the Stream of Many Eyes livestream in LA June 1-3, which will include multiple live D&D games. More information and tickets here.
Crit Role Stats! Nott currently has the most kills of the MN with 16. Her HDYWTDT on the hill giant puts her at 5, tied with Molly for the most.
Caleb has cast the most spells of the group with 146. The next closest is Jester with 100. Liam: “It’s that ritual casting, yo.” However, Jester’s cast a larger variety of spells (22 to Caleb’s 20). This doesn’t include the Wand of Smiles (Caleb: 1, Jester: 4).
Sam is still stuck in character creation in Pillars of Eternity. Liam calls BS since he asked how to walk, but Sam reminds him you walk before going into the CC. He’s spent an hour and a half making a Cipher. BWF made Pike, but picked the wrong voice. Liam suggests picking Grog’s voice in his remake. Liam played the opening nine times and eventually had to reinstall the whole thing to unlock the VM portraits. Sam has a traumatic realization that he has the same problem & will have to reinstall as well.
Caleb is strongly regretting entering the Victory Pit due to the exposure it’s gotten them. He didn’t think there would be any bigwigs this far out, but he was “shocked” to find he was mistaken.
Nott isn’t happy with the notoriety either, but she’s conflicted; “she enjoys the supportive glances of her comrades, her teammates, but every once in a while is reminded other people are watching too.” Both agree the afterparty went badly.
Re: the Trent namedrop, Liam: “I can’t believe he’s here, this far out... I didn’t take in a lot of what happened for the next twenty minutes.”
During a discussion of distractions during an episode, Sam talks about how he and Laura were drawing a shared picture last episode whose arms and legs became dicks over the course of the episode.
Nott was surprised to find she was of value to the team during the hill giant fight. She’s still getting used to her abilities, but being so small and taking down something that big was a confidence boost. “She’s super jittery and nervous about everything and she drinks to compensate. I think this is going well for her, helping the team.”
Frumpkin happened post-asylum, so there was no danger of Trent recognizing him. Liam: “He was tapped for school at 15, meets Ikathon at 16 & goes with Astrid & Aeowulf, goes home for the first event with his parents about a year later, burns the house at age 17, and then was in the asylum until age 28. He ran and was totally alone when he got out; the first step was a cat, the second step was a goblin, and the next step was a group.” Sam: “Your guy was institutionalized for over a decade? I should reconsider who I travel with...”
Nott doesn’t necessarily believe Yasha is a spy, but she doesn’t know why she keeps disappearing or what she’s doing. She doesn’t even know what Yasha is, just that she’s super powerful and scary.
GIF of the week: @trisail. It’s the Trent reveal moment with overlays of Caleb shorting out. Heh.
Lengthy discussion about the “leave the table” moment. Liam found the scene super satisfying as it played out and doesn’t regret it. However, it’s a game for his friends first and foremost, and the primary purpose must be to entertain his friends and make them laugh and gasp, and this way robbed them of their reactions. He doesn’t think there would have been an issue with them being at the table--they’re all respectful audience members, and they’ve all been present before at other reveals. Plus, his story is very complicated, so “what am I gonna do? Spill it out all over again for Fjord, for Jester? It just didn’t seem feasible.” Caleb’s story has been in Liam’s head for a long time, so he was glad to get it out. Liam got the most responses on Twitter ever after his first tweet that he’d told his friends to go back and watch.
None of the other cast members aside from Ashley & BWF have watched the Caleb scene yet. Ashley found it pretty crazy and “a lot.”
Liam reminisces about seeing Vex’s heartbreak at Percy’s death and Grog’s privy conversation with the sword, even though he wasn’t part of those scenes, and wishes he hadn’t excluded his friends from his reveal. “I didn’t get a cat o’nine tails out of Taliesin’s closet and flagellate myself, but...a small course correction.”
Caleb’s reveal clarified some things about how Nott views Caleb; neither Sam nor Nott are dumb, and they both knew that he was suffering from something terrible. This just confirmed that & fleshes out the details. Nott’s views of Caleb’s victimhood, and her wishes that he no longer have to suffer, have not changed.
Liam points out that the intimacy of the show has changed over time, allowing them to pursue deeper conversations between characters instead of just the wacky hijinks they started with. As an example, he points out the difference between the first Liam/Keyleth scene where people hid behind hats vs. later Percy/Vex scenes where everyone was respectful and quiet. Sam enjoys that they can now have fun-fun (getting out of tricky situations and fighting together) alongside adult-fun (deep conversations and new relationships). BWF points out they’ve spent more time with these characters already than a full 5-season primetime show.
Sam became addicted to playing D&D precisely because of the level of depth you could reach with these characters, which you can’t achieve anywhere else.
In the thirty minutes before the Caleb conversation, Liam was wildly conflicted about what he was going to do (reveal everything, reveal only parts, lie). At the same time, “it’s killing [Caleb] to keep it all bottled up,” and even though Caleb’s really smart, he’s not a mastermind, and it may have still been too soon. However, Liam was also ready to stir the pot--he’s getting antsy that so many backstories haven’t been revealed, even though they’re theoretically a sixth of the way through the show. He also points out that Caleb has achieved his goal of finally getting into the library, so there’s nothing keeping him from leaving at any time. “That’s Caleb talking, not Liam.”
Laura & Travis interrupt to Facetime in & pretend they meant to call BWF’s mom for Mother’s Day. It’s pretty darn funny, and they confirm they totally watch this show from home when they’re not on it. Nerds.
Sam also takes a moment to loudly, angrily remonstrate Laura & Travis for taking pho home to eat. “You do not take pho home to eat. You eat it at the restaurant. It does not travel.” Discussing Sam’s food snobbery, Liam reminisces about how proud he was of some homemade blueberry pancakes he made after his kids were born. He shared a picture of them with Sam, who then sent back a picture of pancakes Sam’s wife made that “looked like something out of a magazine, there were raspberries, and everyone was like OHHHH, OHHHH, and I was alone and tired in my kitchen.” Sam: “I’m the worst person.”
Sam had guessed that Caleb’s backstory had something to do with fire, but had thought maybe he’d accidentally hurt/killed someone. “It’s pretty bad to accidentally hurt someone with fire. It’s super bad to intentionally kill someone with fire who is related to you.”
Caleb has no idea what happened to the other two children. The last thing he remembers before hospitalization was the house. Liam still thinks of Caleb as young since he’s essentially lost eleven years.
Sam asked Liam why he wanted to play someone so dark after Vax instead of someone more lighthearted. Liam’s just attracted to these kinds of stories; “this is what I want to do with my spare time.” He’s fine with other people being jovial instead of him.
Fanart of the Week: This gorgeous thing by Wesley Griffith. Apparently, Travis said this is his favorite representation of Fjord so far.
Nott doesn’t think she can do powerful magic; she’s just excited to be able to do small things. Liam’s dying to know Nott’s backstory: “She’s like a little bag of knives who’s hyperintelligent and drunk.”
Sam pauses to plug a new organization, Nerds Vote, a nonpartisan encouragement to register to vote.
In re: Beau’s reaction to Caleb’s reveal, Liam discusses his other options. He thinks Fjord is very intelligent but an unknown who might be evil. Jester he thinks would be the most likely to be repulsed or run away. Yasha’s her own kind of stranger who always leaves. Molly’s a 24/7 party animal that’s wildly different from Caleb. He feels Beau was the best choice; Beau had something he wanted anyway (and had shared a secret with him) so he didn’t have second thoughts acceding to her request.
Even though Nott has forgiven him, Caleb’s not looking to be forgiven or have anyone pat him on the back. He doesn’t believe “it’s going to be okay or it’s not his fault.” He knows he’s absolutely to blame and there’s a massive degree of self-loathing, so Liam feels Beau was the absolute perfect person to tell since she was going to be dry, pragmatic, and real. “No fluff, all...elbow-corners.” He didn’t want someone to coddle him and she was the perfect person for that.
He recognizes that they’re both Empire kids and share that history. Caleb also has been paying attention to everyone, and he feels Beau is clearly not happy with the Empire regardless of what she says, which aligns with Caleb’s feelings as well. Liam thinks it was a great choice to break it to her first, & he feels it wouldn’t have been fair to exclude Nott if he were to finally spit it out.
Nott’s not concealing anything from anyone about her backstory; it’s just that no one’s asked. Caleb never asked about anyone’s backstory because he didn’t want return questions.
Sam likes Liam’s story choices and calls them brave.
The original idea for Caleb stretches back so far that Liam thought of the name Astrid even before Matt introduced Pike’s cousin, Astrid. When they started discussing character creation for the new campaign, Matt okayed repeating the name. The German accent came much later in character creation (i.e. after the development of backstory). To Liam, Caleb’s backstory reads more like KGB or Pet Murderer over Hitler Youth, since as far as he knows it was only the three children involved, not an army.
Of the choices available to the group, Sam most wants to go back to the Gentleman. Liam wonders if Pumat has skeletons in his closet. (How many closets does Pumat have, I wonder?)
Sam segues into his difficulty remembering the difference between the Soltryce Academy and the Cerberus Assembly since they both have “C-A” sounding names. Liam: “Look, folks, he can either be really funny, or he can know the details.” Sam: “And that’s... where Ikathon is? And then there are the Halls of Erudition? There are too many things!” I have never identified more with him than this moment right here.
I have a brief, violent heart attack when an accidental keypress navigates me away from this page and I think I’ve lost it all. False alarm, please reduce heart rate to under 100bpm.
After Dark: Emmy and a lovely mace for Pike Edition
Liam elucidates the difference between a mace and a morningstar. Sam just about knocks his Emmy off the shelf getting the aforementioned mace for demonstration.
Sam’s asked which 90s Disney Afternoon show his character would like best. Sam: Darkwing Duck, Talespin, Gummy Bears, Fraggle Rock. Liam: Duck Tales.
Does Nott regret saying she’s Caleb’s mother after knowing what he did to his last mom? Sam: “Oh, wow. I didn’t even think about that.” Liam: “How could you not? I’ve been thinking about it for weeks!” Sam: “Well, it’s not like he’s a Terminator-style hunter of only mothers...” Finally--no, it hasn’t crossed Nott’s mind, but Sam will inform her soon.
The ultimate food sin for Sam--transporting pho is pretty high on his list, but he decides on ten-dollar wine. (Two-buck chuck, you know what you’re getting, swillwater flavored like wine; ten-dollar wine is actual wine that is terrible.) He recommends splurging for the fourteen-dollar wine. Sam loves cheap Chinese but Panda Express doesn’t count as Chinese. “No good Chinese restaurant ever advertises, ever.” Salted vs. unsalted butter is also a big thing. This is all because of Sam’s wife, he says; Liam points out that a year after they first met, when Sam moved to LA, Liam went over to Sam & Sam’s wife’s terrible apartment where they made very fancy salmon wrapped in that clear waxy rice paper stuff I can’t remember the expensive name for.
Caleb had very little left offensively in the hill giant fight. All he had was Sleep and Shield and a weak cantrip, so all he could do was gamble and guess on the timing. When he first cast it, Sam told Laura it was a big mistake.
A viewer question tries to goad Liam & Sam into a tickle fight. Liam threatens BWF with the mace instead.
Sam agrees to grow a small beard for Liam’s birthday, a little “chin music.”
And that’s all for the night! Is it Thursday yet?

Druck episode 5 reaction
This episode was full of delightful TMI!
Episode 5
Clip 1 - Video games
Matteo is the one who seems to give Jonas a little nudge toward speaking with Hanna.
Lol Jonas, CHILL. You see each other all the damn time. In fact you were saying it just a few episodes ago.
But then again, he’s not being passive-aggressive or denying that he’s upset like other Jonases. He’s openly saying what the problems are, her ignoring him and hiding him from her dad.
Also they look pretty settled and happy and are about to make out before Jonas is called back to his game. Like … this is a reasonably healthy relationship? This is fine? It has its bumps but they have good communication skills for the most part, considering they are teenagers.
If their relationship is more stable than the other versions at this point, and they can address their issues pretty directly, what’s going to be the problem that tears them apart?
Clip 2 - Hanna and Mia
They’re on bicycles together! That is the universal symbol of love.
Lmao, an American dad. Mia jumped up about a thousand points for that line about “I’m defending the pussy of my daughter even if it’s the last thing I’ll do.” What a very good, very in-character observation.
This isn’t that important of a scene if you know the truth of the situation with Jonas, but if you were new to it, yeah, it’d be relevant to address just why there’s that reluctance for Hanna to let her dad meet Jonas.
Clip 3 - The crew, minus one
Sam’s blue teeth are very cute! I kinda love how random this detail is.
Kiki’s Dreaming University shirt seems like the most Kiki-ish attire I can imagine.
All of these girls need to be kissing Amira’s ass soon. I feel so bad for her. Have any of them reached out to her at all? Sam even points out that Leonie and Sara were probably being racist to her. Don’t sleep on that! You all let her down!
Kiki is awful but not gonna lie, I’m kind of entertained by her conviction about everything. Of course the girls want to know out what it’s like to make out with Alexander! She has the stats on when is the average time to lose your virginity! She has references for Alexander’s orgasm giving skills!
Sam’s look when Kiki mentions Til Schweiger, lol. She is fantastic.
I’m really glad they’re planting the hints about Kiki’s eating disorder early and having Mia recognize them. Although at least those green drinks have nutrients in them, not like she’s subsisting on Diet Coke and gum.
Clip 4 - Adventures in gynecological visits
Starting the gyno scene with Khia’s “My Neck, My Back”… an INSPIRED musical choice.
Sam immediately sticking her fingers down plastic genitalia … relatable, tbh.
Oh god, I love this doctor. Kiki being like, I’m so old to lose my virginity! And the doctor being like, well, I was 26, he worked at a convenience store and he had a bad rash, I took him to the hospital and he was so grateful that we boned. All while opening the condom with her teeth and rolling it on the dick with a dreamy nostalgic look.
Sam thinking this is the cutest story ever! Another reason why she’s spectacular. She recognizes romance when she hears it.
Kiki slowly reaching behind for Hanna’s hand in alarm as they talk about bleeding, lol.
The doc just passing around the condoms like candy, how nice! And she gives her a prescription in what seems like an unrealistically short process (I don’t know anyone who got the pill without at least getting a basic checkup, getting their blood pressure checked, going over their medical history, etc. but it’s not like I know how every doctor in the world does it).
Clip 5 - Hey look, it’s Hanna’s dad
(I was a little confused about when this clip aired, so I’m just going to treat it like a separate scene).
This part about not just learning by heart, but thinking outside the box has thematically to do with Hanna not being able to think for herself. Sure, there are different connotations in the context of education rather than social pressures, but it’s still relevant.
Oh, so Hanna is living alone. I want to know more about how that came to be and what the exact situation is with her dad and his other family.
Her dad takes the idea of an open relationship pretty chill and cancels on his girlfriend/new wife(??) to meet his daughter’s boyfriend, so points to him for trying to be a Cool Dad? Also, not overreacting at the idea of his daughter who lives alone having a boyfriend, so he’s not Mia’s idea of an American chastity-defending dad.
Clip 6 - Carmen the unseen hero?
I had heart eyes all throughout this clip and it was tempting to just post the whole thing.
The girls sticking condoms in Sam’s hair like they’re decorating a Christmas tree! The condoms placed strategically like nipples on Kiki’s chest when she lies down! We love the little details.
Sam not remembering her first time because she was drunk … alarming!
Not to be a creep but this conversation about female masturbation is a big part of why I like Skam in the first place! This is a good moment for teenage girls to see - a casual, blunt, funny discussion between other girls, acknowledging that it’s fine for girls to masturbate. Sam talking about her stuffed camel - hilarious.
So Kiki’s fantasy involves sitting fully clothed with Alexander and petting her cats … stroking their fur … she starts petting the bedspread…
What’s with all these versions of Vildes having a thing about cats? I mean I have a guess but.
Also Kiki didn’t mention that she won’t be involved in lesbian activity … hmMMM.
And then this conversation turns into bestiality jokes. Honestly ... relatable. You never let the cat/camel jokes die.
The dad walking in kind of awkwardly!! But in a laid-back dad way.
God, Alexander is a super weird lurker and already eyeing Mia and Kiki is just like this is my MAN :D :D :D
Is Jonas going to have the same secret? I really, really hope not. It makes no sense considering Hanna already knows.
Also Hanna asked him about Leonie like immediately, yet another example of them being direct about their issues. I guess they’re not going to have Hanna ask Matteo for the scoop?
General Comments
This is still the remake I enjoy the most and of course it’s the one with the least content. They need to work on the social media as there definitely need to be more text messages and some of the IG content is off, like I think that Hanna’s IG stories were too early (Mia meeting Jonas and talking about going to the doctor a day or so before it actually happened in real time - correct me if I got that wrong). Someone give them a bigger budget and staff so we can get more stuff. But as far as the clips themselves, I’ve been pretty satisfied. At least this was a longer episode!
The doctor was excellent and my fave other than the legendary Skrulle. I can’t wait to see more of her. Though I guess if she’s a gynecologist it wouldn’t make sense for Matteo to visit her for sleeping pills, right? If they make it that far/if they do a close remake of S3 (which I don’t want, admittedly).
Every time I think I’m meh on Mia, I’m endeared by something she does, such as her interaction with Jonas in the IG story, or the American dad line.
I like the other girls, too. Hanna feels suitably insecure, Sam is just great, and Kiki, though often insufferable, I find to be a very convincing depiction of that personality type. I missed Amira though it was to be expected this episode.
I don’t speak German so if I miss some context, feel free to correct me or elaborate.
If you got this far, thank you for reading!

Fate: The Winx Saga Review (Spoiler-Free) – Tween Fairy Tale Wants to be Gen Z Potter
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This Fate: The Winx Saga is based on all six episodes and contains no spoilers.
Fate: The Winx Saga, the newest YA fantasy effort from Netflix, is the live-action remake of an animated series that takes the story and pitches it at an older age group. There’s a magic school surrounded by gorgeous landscapes (courtesy of filming locations in Ireland), a group of students trying to uncover a conspiracy protected by the teachers, and more than a couple of secrets about the origins of our main character.
If that sounds familiar, that’s because it is. The 6-episode series borrows liberally from its predecessors, but none more so than J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World. Now, while many of us would welcome a new iteration of those particular ideas, the homage it pays (the first episode contains a scene in which two characters share what Hogwarts house they’d be sorted into) is often so heavy that it distracts from anything new the show is trying to do.
We follow newly-identified fire fairy Bloom (there are air fairies, water fairies, earth fairies, you-name-it-fairies), who has been enrolled at Alfea after an incident involving her non-magical parents. She moves in, bonds with her four roommates, flirts with some boys, and attempts to tap into her power. Soon enough, several mysteries start to emerge and she begins to suspect that headmistress Dowling (Eve Best) isn’t telling her everything.
Of the five main female characters, Bloom (Abigail Cowen) is perhaps the least interesting. The token American in a cast of Brits intended to act as the entry point for international audiences, she serves her purpose well enough but is trapped in an archetype that was worn out long ago. She’s too often merely an audience surrogate, but there are clues that Cowen could be capable of more if given the material.
Her roommates – Stella (Hannah van der Westhuysen), Musa (Elisha Applebaum), Aisha (Precious Mustapha) and Terra (Eliot Salt) – take turns being more engaging, whether it’s Neville Longbottom-esque Terra as the underdog finding her confidence, Musa being forced to deal with the feelings of everyone around her, or Stella struggling with her status as the heir of the Fairy royals.
The male characters introduced across the series fare pretty poorly in comparison, almost entirely occupying the patchier parts of the world-building. We meet-cute dreamy love interest Sky (Danny Griffin) first but, despite his exposition dump explaining that Alfea is a “college for fairies”, he appears to not actually be a fairy himself.
In fact, pretty much all of the named male characters are part of a group called ‘specialists’ – soldiers being trained for a past war that may or may not return. While it’s true that the fairies in this story are shown to be very powerful, the fact that their brothers, fathers and boyfriends are the ones being trained as soldiers seems a bit odd for a show aimed at an age-group not forgiving of aggressive gender norms in their entertainment.
But Fate: The Winx Saga isn’t exactly bad. For the most part, the show ticks along at a nice pace and certainly doesn’t lack ambition. It benefits from the actors’ commitment to the sillier parts of the dialogue (Downton Abbey’s Robert James-Collier in particular is playing his role as if it’s a serious BBC drama), and it’s hard to argue with a concept as tried and true as ‘teenagers coming of age as they fight the forces of evil’.
Still, it’s hard to guess how much it will be able to take off with viewers who aren’t already familiar with the animated series. For one, the show’s title is one that, even with the best will in the world, is hard to remember. It wouldn’t look out of place on a YA bookshelf, but putting the word ‘Saga’ into the title of a first installment is rarely a good sign.
It’s clear from the finale that The WInx Saga is one eager for more installments, and there are some interesting directions for it to go should it be granted one.
One of the main drawbacks of this first season is how little time it has to flesh out the world before throwing us into the action. With just six hours, there’s barely enough time to get to grips with the status quo before it starts to unravel. As such, the series strives to Deathly Hallows levels of epic-ness by the end, but with far less material to get us there.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Never quite living up to its ambition of being an adaptation for ‘adult fans’ of the original, Fate: The Winx Saga has the potential to hook younger viewers eager for a new fantasy series made solely for them.

Music Of Final Fantasy Part 2
Tumblr media
Few years later, Squaresoft releases next instalment of Final Fantasy series. This one has changed the way people perceive video games forever and is still regarded as one of the best games ever made.
Ex SOLDIER Cloud Strife is hired by Avalanche- a group of rebels whose main priority is to stop Shin-Ra corporation from draining the planet from its resources. Cloud was only hired for one mission but he soon finds out he’ll have to stay a little longer...
Final Fantasy VII was revolutionary in every way imaginable. The musical layer of it set the bar for video game music higher than ever. Nobuo Uematsu is a master of his craft- one of very few who can perfectly shape the emotional value of every scene while keeping his compositions more than good enough to listen to long after you’ve completed the game.
youtube
Tumblr media
There are many gems you can find in the game’s soundtrack. First one on the list is ‘One Winged Angel’- track that plays when you fight Sephiroth for the last time. Version below was recorded for a movie ‘Advent Children’ based on events that happen few years after the main story line of the original release. It starts with orchestra laying down the foundation and hinting the listener what he’ll soon experience. After a few measures of that orchestral bliss, suddenly guitars and drums kick in further establishing the mood. Music then progresses into the choir part which is what this piece is known for. Best moments: first time we hear guitars at 0:39, drums at 1:27, moment of calm at 2:24, guitar part at 2:38 leading to the solo and everything from 3:15 onwards.

At E3 2015 Square Enix announced that they’re currently working on a remake for the new generation of consoles. Here are a few screenshot of how it all looks like so far.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Many people reacted very emotionally to the news. We’ve all been waiting for this to happen and we’re finally getting it! The official release date is yet to be announced but at least we know it’ll happen sooner or later. I wonder if they’re going to completely re-record all music from the scratch or will they use stuff that’s already out there. Either, or- we know it’s going to be good.
Coming back to the main focus of this post- music, here are other compositions that took part in shaping the world of Final Fantasy VII...
Tumblr media
Cosmo Canyon Theme taken from the orchestral album ‘Distant Worlds IV’ has a very ethnic feel to it. Chord progression beautifully compliments the main melody played on the flute. There are many moments in this game when you stop just to listen to the music- this is one of them.
youtube
Tumblr media
Next up is 'Still More Fighting’ (or ‘Those Who Fight Further’)- arguably the most recognisable boss theme in the entire series (and outside of it). Arranged by previously mentioned The Black Mages. This used to be one of those songs everybody wanted to hear played on live instruments and when we finally got to hear it we weren't disappointed!
youtube
Main riff was most likely inspired by Metallica’s ‘For Whom The Bell Tolls’ which is something that was pointed out to me just recently by one of my friends. I’ve heard both songs before but I never thought about comparing them side by side. Now it seems pretty obvious but the general feel of both songs still differs a lot.
Tumblr media
youtube
Last but not least ‘J-E-N-O-V-A’. Another one from The Black Mages. A lot of songs from FFVII work well with heavy, distorted guitars. Throughout the duration of this track we hear well fitted electronic drum kit playing breaks in the background. It sets a perfect pace for the combination of synthesiser and guitar driven melodic layer. Wait till 4:28 to hear one of the best synth solos ever written...
Tumblr media
I remember I used to skip levelling up my characters before progressing further into the game because the story was so engaging. I just wanted to know what happens next. Because of that I got stuck at the first fight with Jenova for weeks. My party was too weak to be able to beat it, but eventually I managed to get through it and learn my lesson. :D
This is one of those soundtracks that once you’ve heard it, it’ll stay with you forever. Great game with great music.
See you in part 3.,,
Cheers!

Amityville: The Awakening Reinvents The Franchise - But Is Still Boring
Tumblr media
Amityville: The Awakening is the latest movie inspired by the Amityville haunting, but despite a great cast, it's arguably the dullest of the bunch. The original Amityville Horror was based on the book of the same name by author Jay Anson, which recounted the supposed haunting experienced by the Lutz family during their time in the Amityville house. The Lutz's moved into the house after a man named Ronald DeFeo Jr shot and killed his entire family there a year prior. After the book became a bestseller, it was adapted into the 1979 movie starring James Brolin and Margot Kidder (Superman). The Amityville Horror was a huge hit and a prequel followed in 1982.
Amityville II: The Possession purported to tell the story of the murders that took place before the original movie, but the sequel changed the family name to Montelli. While nowhere near as successful, the sequel is now considered a cult horror movie for its performances and disturbing themes. Amityville 3-D cashed in the on the short-lived 3D craze of the era, which also included Jaws 3-D, and featured an early role for Meg Ryan. There has been an almost countless number of sequels and DTV horror movies that have used Amityville as inspiration since then, including the 2005 remake with Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) and 2011's found footage film The Amityville Haunting.
Related: The Conjuring Universe Complete Timeline
Even The Conjuring 2 featured a sequence set in the Amityville house. Amityville: The Awakening is the latest theatrical release based on the infamous haunting, which attempted something of a reboot. The story finds a family moving into the house, including teenager Belle (Bella Thorne) and her brain-dead twin brother James (Cameron Monaghan, Gotham). The film adds a mildly clever touch in that all previous Amityville movies exist within the story, and Belle even watches the original 1979 film to catch up on the house's history.
Tumblr media
The house soon starts to take possession of James which is something his mother, played by Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), appears to welcome. Amityville: The Awakening may have a mildly intriguing premise, but like so many of the previous Amityville movies, it's kind of dull. It relies on jump scares and spooky dreams for much of its chills and while it's got a surprisingly good cast, the drama falls flat. The behind-the-scenes story of Amityville: The Awakening is almost more interesting since it was shot in 2014 and when through about five release date changes before receiving a limited theatrical push in 2017.
The film also underwent reshoots and was re-edited from an R to a PG-13. Amityville: The Awakening isn't the worst entry in series, but its too generic to really leave much of an impression either. At least some of the straight to video entries like Amityville 1992: It's About Time - about a haunted clock from the Amityville house - had some crazy, over the top setpieces to set them apart. Amityville: The Awakening, on the other hand, came and went so fast its already been forgotten.

Metroid: Samus Returns thoughts
So I beat it already and wanted to put my thoughts out there. Heavy spoilers follow.
So, firstly it’s good, like, really bloody good, but it’s not without its faults.
When I started playing, I hated the Aeions, and even after beating the game, I still don’t like them. They’re kind of like buffs; one gives you a type of armour which is only really useful when moving through harmful plants. Another gives you rapid-fire, and another slows down time for everything except Samus. The final -- called Scan Pulse --  reveals the area surrounding Samus, upgrades and all. This kind of flies in the face of Metroid’s core gameplay; exploration and experimentation. If you’ve yet to play the game and are for some reason still reading this, please do yourself a favour and do not use this on your first run.
Speaking of the runs; movement. At first it felt incredibly strange using the Circle Pad rather than the D-pad. I got used to it eventually, but it was definitely a hurdle. You jump with B, shoot with Y, and can perform a new counter move with X. This counter will take a little while to get used to, but so long as you hit the button around half a second after the enemy flashes, you;ll generally be sound. The Aeions are activated with the A button, which, in the middle of combat, can be easily pressed accidentally. Because of my self-imposed “No Scan-Pulse” rule, I had to revert to the last checkpoint more than a few times. Thankfully, when I unlocked more of them, I had no more issues.
Next up, I wanted to touch on the aiming. Holding the L button will plant Samus and she’ll be able to aim in every direction. At first I found this cumbersome, but you soon get used to holding L only when you need it.
So, gameplay in general is pretty similar to the original Metroid II: Return of Samus in that you explore the Metroid home world, SR388 to eliminate every Metroid on the planet. The world is segmented into roughly 7 areas, and you’re tasked with killing a varying amount of Metroids in each area. once you’ve wiped them out, you return to a mechanism that will lower the acid, allowing you to sink deeper into the planet.
This being a remake, it can feel a little old fashioned at times, but it’s generally fine in my opinion. You’ll pick up franchise mainstay items like the Ice Beam and Varia Suit, alongside items that never were in the original, such as the Grapple Beam. These items feel right at home in this game, and that’s another thing I wanted to mention; this feels like a whole new game. Sure you’ll see some aged mechanics, like the Metroid Quota, but there are a few decent surprises that mix things up, like the new bosses.
Speaking of bosses; they’re just okay. There are the Metroid variants that were in the original, but also a few non-Metroid bosses. One, roughly half way through, is Arachnus, returning from the original Metroid II, but this boss also appeared in Metroid Fusion (More on this later). The others, while tough, were too close to the end of the game. You fight a huge digging machine, then the final boss from the original; the Queen Metroid, then Ridley, because of course he’s in this game. These all appear in the final third of the game, and it can feel like a boss-rush of sorts. I definitely felt fatigued by the end.
I’ve no idea why Ridley is even in the game. He wasn’t in the original and he felt kind of shoe-horned in. I get that the original ended on a quite subdued note, but I liked that. I also understand that Nintendo probably wanted to end the game with a bang, but I feel it ultimately hurt the ending. Had Ridley been an optional boss, in an optional area, I’d have been totally fine with it, but even then it is a tad frustrating that Nintendo feels the need to shove him into every Metroid game.
And that’s about it. I liked it. The Aeions are an odd inclusion, the non-Metroid bosses were  too close together, and the controls can take a little while to get used to, but on the whole, this is a fantastic return to form for the series.
Oh, one last thing; there’s a post-credits scene, in which a Hornoad absorbs an X Parasite and transforms into one with their Fusion colour scheme. This, alongside the Fusion Suit being an Amiibo unlock makes me think that if this game is successful, we’ll be getting a Fusion remake. Hopefully that’ll be on the Switch though.
That’s about it. Thanks for reading.

About that Metroid Prime 4 announcement...
Yes, I know this is vastly late, but bear with me, since I’ve wanted to say all this for a while now. But really, I feel that what I have to say here not only applies today, but will apply up to the release of the game. Let’s go on with this so I can knock it out real quickly and you can return to your daily Tumblr browsing. I know that some of you have some rather good things to look at. I’m looking at you, Sherlock and Mycroft shippers.... let’s keep going.
youtube
Of course, once the trailer started, no one was really sure what this game was going to be, because it showed a bit of space, and nothing else really. My initial thought was actually Starfox because it’s one of the few Nintendo series that got love recently, but once the music started, I honestly knew for sure that this was Metroid. And then that 4 came into view, and I was actually in hysterics, because I knew for a fact that this was the announcement for Metroid Prime 4. I know right? That logo comes in view and - wait, it seems familiar - and then the subtitles comes up that it was now in development. Are Nintendo really going to - oh, yep. They are. That’s it. Somehow, that 40 second teaser was enough to satisfy every Metroid fan, or was it. I’m not so sure, so let’s take a look at a couple of points.
1. That logo looks vaguely familiar.
Before I get stuck into my first point, let me warn you that there will be a lot of back and forth to cover, because while I have a lot to cover, there is only 40 seconds, and I have already been told a lot from these brief moments. Let’s get started with the most obvious sign and one of the reasons why I am anxious about this game’s release window: the actual logo they used. I mean, the 4 is new, we all saw that, but the actual words Metroid Prime are not. Let’s go back ten years, when the final game in the trilogy was released. This is the logo that came with it.
Tumblr media
Look familiar? It should, because that is the exact logo they used for the Prime 4 teaser. If you can ignore the fact that the ‘Prime’ has been enlarged and moved a bit, and the ‘Metroid’ shrunk, it’s clear that this was a rushed job probably to get the trailer for the Spotlight at E3, and which leads to my overall point.
2. No Retro Studios?
Another thing that makes me worry as a Prime fanboy is the fact that Retro Studios, known for creating the perfect trilogy ten years prior, are not involved in Metroid Prime 4 at all, and that a new team is working on it. While this is mostly fine for me, I’m all for a new team to work on the games, but has it worked for Halo? The results are pretty divided there. I just hope that the new team takes this new game into a different yet familiar direction, and not into Other M territory. And furthermore, what are Retro Studios working on? Must be a big new IP for Nintendo. This is about the new team, so if the results of Mass Effect Andromeda is any indication, this could be a sign of trouble, unless the new team is actually quite capable of doing their jobs to the best of their extents. Because this game has to get the official Nintendo Seal of Quality, right?
Oh, that’s right. Retro Studios basically said they were done with the Metroi series after Prime 3, so that’s fine. Yep.
3. Series Seller?
Let’s be realistic here, a large reason Nintendo kept this project on the ground is probably due to the fact that Metroid has never been a huge seller for them. Sure, the sales are alright overseas though nothing special, but in Japan, Metroid is actually not very highly regarded, so I suspect that low sales and interest in the franchise is what led to Nintendo trying a new direction for this series. And that was Other M. That game was received fairly well by critics, but it got probably the harshest response from fans over the world, which probably contributed to Nintendo pulling the franchise back. And yet despite this response, Nintendo apparently saw there was a need for the series to continue from fans. Let’s be straight here, either this is Nintendo actually continuing the series because there’s something new to do with it, or because they want t win some fans back to sell the Switch? Probably the latter.
4. Development, yes. but how long?
This is probably the most critical point I will make today, because let’s be realistic, the quick teaser was amazing to see, but that’s all it was, which kind of leads to my big point here. The logo, the new team, the selling point, it screams out to me that maybe this announcement was made too soon? Sure, we know that it’s in development now, and that’s great, but really, what we want to know is, how long has Metroid Prime 4 been in development for? Seeing the logo made in such a worryingly lazy way makes me think that it hasn’t been in development for very long, like they’ve only just started and we won’t be seeing the game for a few years yet. Worst case scenario is we’ll get it in 2020 - and it won’t be shown at all next year. Really, the only reason I think they showed this announcement this year at all, is because they knew fans were quite antsy for the new game, and they had to make this announcement the night before in Adobe After Effects.
It sounds like there was a catch 22 situation with this announcement that they had to consider, and there were two options. Either they would not announce it until they had more to show, and that would satisfy the fans much more, but at the same time they would lose a lot of fans because nothing was shown at E3 this year. Or they could announce it now, let fans know that yes it is coming to the Switch, and that would make everyone excited, but then that’d mean the wait is very long. And obviously, they went with the latter, when they could have so easily gone with the former. But really, going with the latter would not have hurt them at all, because look at what else was shown. We have a new Xenoblade Chronicles, a new Fire Emblem Warriors, and a new Sonic and Mario for this year. And to top it off, they had Yoshi and Kirby games for next year with actual gameplay. There was also a Pokemon announcement in there somewhere, which was directly before the Prime 4 announcement, so it feels weird that there’s two empty announcements between a mishmash of full gameplay reveals and trailer. And the same for Pokemon can be said here - the announcement feels like it was in response to the Pokemon Direct, where a sequel to Sun and Moon were announced for the 3DS, as well as Pokken DX for Switch.
5. Samus Returns!
I apologize for the literal wall of text that I made with the last point but the reason I did that is that it was the most substantial point I had to make, and really it tied into the next one I have, which is the further announcement that Samus Returns is coming to the 3DS, You heard that right, an official Nintendo remake is coming. And yes, it is a remake on Metroid 2: Return of Samus - which actually recently saw a fan remake released some time ago. Now, this is a bit problematic for me to talk about, because I honestly don’t want to anger the fans of that remake. Which... probably doesn’t matter anyway since there are already some salty people that wish to boycott Samus Returns. Why? Because that game is apparently not good enough for them, and that Nintendo should feel bad for doing this to a fan who spent ten years making a game based on content that Nintendo owns, and they have every right to DMCA or C and D, and make their own remake of. Those fans have nothing to be angry about - Samus Returns looks like it’s had a lot of work go into it, so that probably means it’s been in the works for some time, maybe even before the fan remake came out. T those fans, I saw please pull the sticks out of your asses, and be happy that Nintendo are giving one of their long dormant game series a reboot and a new game. It doesn’t matter that AM2R is free and can be downloaded right away, Samus Returns if an official product, and it should be supported as well.
They probably won’t listen, but that’s exactly my point. What if this 3DS remake is Nintendo’s way of gauging just how much interest there is in the actual Metroid franchise? It never sold very well, and the 3DS has 66 million users, so it stands to reason that they hope to see strong sales so they can decide how much Prime 4 gets in terms of development and funding. Which is a bit sad, but I’m excited for Samus Returns as well, and I’ve already preordered it. But honestly, it’s amazing to see Samus finally returning.
6. Story for Metroid Prime 4?
Finally, there is light at the end of the tunnel! I’m almost done, but I wanted to speculate a bit about how Metroid Prime 4 will be done. Federation Force was pretty much almost ignored by fans, but it did have an important after credits scene with Sylux and a little Metroid egg, which stands to reason that this could be the story for Prime 4. Even if it isn’t, there was also the post credits scene for Corruption, which featured Sylux’s ship. I might be certain that Sylux will be involved in Prime 4, in one way or another. Exciting, huh?
Well, that’s it for this long LONG post. Please leave a heart, comment me your thoughts as well, or even message me if you want to discuss~! Thanks so much for reading, and I will see you in the next review.
OH, and I am planning to make this a video as well, let me know if that is a good idea.
