I was playing pokemon shining pearl and I wanted to use a steelix but realized I couldn't use one because I needed to be able to trade. I have sisters who also play pokemon, but

My twin sister doesn't like playing her switch this time of year because her room gets invaded by ants if she turns it on these months. No clue why. Heck, my room has been getting ant infestations like crazy lately and I've been playing my switch a lot so maybe ants like the way the switch smells when it's on???

My older sister has been becoming more and more like those "nobody hates pokemon more than pokemon fans" memes over the years like she'll buy the games and then complain to me nonstop for some reason about every little thing she hates about the game/spew insults about the pokemon games. The whole 9 yards. and I'm 99.9% sure she doesn't even have brilliant diamond or shining pearl. Also even if she does, I don't want her jealous rant about how I'm able to replay a game as many times as I want without getting bored while she gets bored before one complete playthrough like okay?? It sounds like a living hell to be that uneasily entertained but I don't need to hear about it every few weeks. So she's not an option to trade pokemon with.

As for my younger sister, she'd probably be the best choice but idk. Some days she's nice to be around, other days she'll be carrying around a butcher knife and a bad attitude so I'm scared to approach her to begin with.

But I found something cool while curiously and optimistically going into pokemon home.

I was messing around and discovered I was able to move a growlithe that I caught in pokemon scarlet into previous games. I put it into pokemon shield and looked at its stats and things and when I curiously checked for where it was caught, it said caught in a far away place. I guess it would be obvious it wouldn't say caught in paldea. Dunno what I was expecting XD

This is really good because if I can do that, I can do other things.

I moved the onix from pokemon shining pearl into legends arceus because there, I can easily just slap a metal coat onto an onix to evolve it without trading and then I was able to move the new steelix back into shining pearl.

I didn't expect this to work at first because of how it was in the 3ds era when if i moved pokemon from x and y or whatever into sun and moon, they could never return to where they came from. Similar to moving mons from gen 3 to gen 4. They would never return to the games they were from. So I'm used to that kind of thing.

Anyway, this is mindblowing to me and extremely good for when I can't trade pokemon with my sisters. Unfortunately can't use this if I want to evolve a trade evolution mon that isn't in legends arceus such as a swirlix but this is still an amazing discovery.

What I hate about pokemon home though is that you need a paid subscription if you want to get mons from the 3ds. I can't afford that all the time so I need to make sure I'm absolutely ready and absolutely ready means I want to catch an entire box worth or more of xurkitree in s/m/us/um before I think it's worth it. Unlike in all the switch games though, I wouldn't be able to move the xurkitrees back but like- I keep wanting to camp with a full team of xurkitrees and have plenty more xurkitrees to have around :D

"Gardening, primarily. I don't get half as much time to dedicate to it as I might like. There's just something about organic life, about root systems and connections that appeals. I wonder sometimes how much of that is in my design."

"I tried to start a beehive once, but the bees I stole just died so... I probably should have done more research before bee-thiefing. I was still getting used to the loss of the communal databank back then. Maybe I should convince Toria to send someone for bees again."

This is separate, but another thing that I think is difficult to process, even and perhaps especially for me sometimes, is that...people do have different demands, and “Fandom” is not a monolith.

I bring this up because just before I left Twitter, Gen 6 was trending because someone made a tweet about how obviously we could all agree that Gen 6 was Pokemon’s peak.  Which...god, how anyone can be so wrong is beyond me.  But here we are.  A lot of people pushed back, hilariously with a large chunk saying “Sure, if we’re only talking about ORAS,” as if ORAS wasn’t the first remake that wasn’t as good as the original generation’s third game, but one response to it really got to me a bit.

“I see we’re at the part of the cycle where Gen 6 is considered an underrated masterpiece now.”

I feel like this is a common stance about Pokemon fandom in general.  That there’s a clear and consistent cycle of “Fans shit on whatever’s new, then when they cool off it becomes accepted as okay, and ends on being really good and an underrated classic.”  And I think the intent of this is to downplay criticism of the games when they come out, and pretend like everyone’s just throwing a tantrum about changes instead of having legitimate concerns.  Which is extra strange because the answer for this cycle is pretty damn obvious.

XY was like ten years ago.  The 5-8 year olds that had this as Baby’s First Video Game are now in high school and have social media accounts for a certainty.  So about ten years later, suddenly there’s a lot of love and support for a game that was disliked at the time...because the people who grew up with it are now at an age their voices are the dominant segment.  This isn’t some mystery, but nor is it the same people changing their minds completely over time.  It’s the old guard being phased out, either by new fans aging into it, or by older fans disengaging with the series; probably both.

Again, I am 100% guilty of this too.  It’s hard not to generalize when you mostly see generalized impressions on things, and make sweeping statements as if different people’s opinions being louder at different points in time doesn’t mean people broadly don’t know what they want or what they’re talking about.  I think by and large they do, and insisting they don’t removes credibility from complaints about changes that aren’t doing so well.  I think it’s worth examining the complaints as they happen, and deciding whether they’re legitimate or not.  And that it’s also worth examining whether a change in broad opinions over time is something you agree with, and whether those changes really invalidate old complaints as being too harsh.

I don’t have a grand moral here.  I’ve just been thinking about this a lot, what with Gen 9 on the horizon.  But to add another layer of complication, I do think it’s easier to be swept up in the negative when immediate impressions are largely negative.  Gen 8 felt terrible even before it came out, because I kept up with everything.  Gen 9, I haven’t kept up with a word, and it feels a lot less dire.  Is it actually less dire?  I don’t know.  Maybe I’ll play it and hate it.  Maybe if fan impressions are negative, they’re right to be so.  But I’m spending less time being irritable about something than I did last generation, and that is to my own benefit.  I guess the moral is that fandom is reductionist and people should make their own opinions outside of what the collective believes, but to take a generalized negative response as something legitimate rather than chalking it up to fans not knowing what they want?  I dunno.

I’m not really one for New Year’s Resolutions, and yet I seem to do them every year. I’m a hell of an optimist, if anything. I guess it’s just a way of trying to get everything in my life back on track at a convenient excuse to do it.

I’ve got a post-it on my wall from last year’s, where I was pretty ambitious about changing my life for the better. It’s pretty similar to what I would want for this next year, so that’s not a good sign, I guess. This time, I think I’d like to focus on what I’ve gained, rather than what I’m missing.

No Zero Days is written up the top, after that one philosophy on Reddit that I liked. I’ve definitely had plenty of zero days this year! But, it’s hard to say I regret them, since most of them have been recovery from one thing or another. Trying to keep my head above water, here.

Learn a new skill. Nah, I haven’t really done that much. I’ve bought a few things to try and learn things, and I’ve been chugging away a little bit at Duolingo, but I can’t really say I’ve learned an actual skill. I did get a minor certification that I’ve been meaning to get, so that’s cool!

okay this one is Doctor Stuff. I’ve made progress in this sector, and I got an entirely unrelated diagnosis about my blood that I wasn’t expecting. (Plus like four or five blood tests about it because idk they just dropped my vial of blood on the lab floor or something, I’m not entirely sure. Didn’t even get a lollipop for it.)

One blog update per month. WELP. That clearly didn’t happen! Damn but I’d love to get back here. just to watch as social media crashes and burns, but hey. I’ve even got asks in my inbox I’ve been meaning to reply to. (I’m not ignoring anyone, I promise!)

One game finished per month. Uh. Well, maybe I’ve finished 12 games this year? Spyro 1, Pokemon Legends Arceus, Dragon Quest 1 both NES and GBC, Pokemon Scarlet, Pokemon UltraMoon... hm. Probably some minor ones during the year that I’ve forgotten. I played Hades for the first time, so that was cool.

One Project finished. That one was a little more vague, and I had no expectation of actually doing it, since most of my projects are over ambitious anyway, but at least I could work towards it a little if I believed, right? The biggest candidate in my mind was a Pokemon one, one that involved sorting specific legendary Pokemon into groups. (I don’t wanna get specific with it haha.) I remember back at the beginning of the year finally getting right into this, thinking I’d finally make some headway on it, then realising that there was a Pokemon announcement due later that very night, and thinking “this is definitely gonna be another new generation just to stuff up my plans, isn’t it?” So yeah I’m to blame for Gen 9 coming out when it did, sorry! I’ve been working on This Thing for the last few weeks in my free time, so that’s been fun!

This one I was sure would be a good one - Create something and put it out there. I was maybe thinking of that Spyro LP I promised, and I did start work on it, but ultimately it never made it anywhere. (Still got the footage, so I can go back to it, I guess.) The closest thing here would be that one Scarlet video I uploaded that was just a clipshow of bits I found funny, so idk if I can call this one completed in any meaningful way.

But hey, I’ve made baby steps. Sometimes that’s all we can ask for.

A lot of this year was just trying to keep afloat, like I said. This year took people I loved away from me, I got into a car crash, I was put into some fucky situations and I cried more than I wrote. I’ve been at some lows this year and it’s fuckin sucked at times. But I’ve also made some interesting progress, and hopefully things are about to start looking up.

I dunno.

Do you play video games?  Nah. I do feel a sort of connection of video games since I grew up surrounded by them, though; but I’m more of a watcher than anything. I like watching playthroughs of video games I’ll never play. Do you spend a lot of time with family?  No. We used to, back when the quarantine was still a relatively new thing – we hung out in the living room all the time. But now that we’ve settled in this new normal, we’re back to our normal routines and I usually like staying in my room.

Is your house more than two stories tall?  Technically, yes. We have a rooftop that serves as the ‘third’ floor.

Have you ever hit your significant other? Has he/she ever hit you?  My ex and I never hit one another; that’s a gigantic red flag even I would notice, considering I ignored most of the ones I saw hahaha.

What makes you an attractive person? (Talk about your personality too!)  I’m not sure if I’ll be able to answer this question directly, but I like my generosity. I’m not sure if I can call it attractive, though. But if we were focusing on physical features, I like my smile.

What color is your hairbrush/comb?  Pink.

What snacks do you have available in your household atm?  My dad splurged on chips in his last grocery run so we actually have quite a lot of junk food in the pantry at the moment. He also bought several packs of cookie sandwiches, wafers, sunflower seeds, and garlic-flavored peanuts.

Has anyone recently told you that they like you, or find you attractive?  Neither.

Are you attracted to the last person you Facebook messaged?  No, she’s just a good friend of mine.

Do you care about anyone that doesn’t care about you?  I guess I don’t, because I’m not even aware of them.

Was your last Facebook friend requests from a male or female?  Guy. It was another reporter, so I just ignored it and luckily he didn’t PM me just to ask to add him back, which others have already done. I really hate when work people try to make their way into my personal accounts.

Which one of your relatives is most likely to embarrass you?  My parents, especially when they are rude to service crew. Gen X-ers are impeccably talented at that, apparently.

When was the last time you ate a bar of chocolate?  Around two or three weeks ago when I had dinner at Angela’s. Her dad gave me a bar of Crunch so I can have something sweet after our meal.

Do you play any games on Facebook?  No, I never did hop on that trend.

What would you like to get a degree in?  I wanted a degree in journalism, and graduated with such. At the end of my college stint I didn’t want to pursue it anymore, but I pushed through with it anyway because it was too much of a hassle to shift and start all over.

Do you wake up a lot in the middle of the night? Technically not, because I stay up until the middle of the night anyway. It’s been a while since I fell asleep anywhere between 8 to 10 PM.

Would you prefer to read a book, watch a movie or TV show, or play a video game?  Watch a show.

Do you usually get popcorn or soda at the movie theater?  I don’t like either; I get fries instead.

What genre of films do you like the best?  Drama.

How many bank accounts do you have?  Two but I haven’t been using the other one in months. That was the bank account I initially opened when I first started ~adulting~ but when I got employed I was required to enroll in this other specific bank, so that’s what I mainly use now.

Have you ever had the flu?  Not really. I just get the occasional fever that pop out of nowhere.

What is your goal for the next few months?  Start saving FOR REAL, and also prioritizing furniture over merch for a while so I can finally fix up my room, which is quickly starting to look and feel like just a warehouse and not very homey at all.

Have you ever had some kind of sleep-disorder? How did it affect your life?  Nope.

Have you ever had food poisoning before? Describe the experience.  Yeah, it was from barbecue that apparently went bad, even though it tasted nothing of the sort. I woke up at 3 AM sweating profusely and with the most excruciating stomachache; I was feeling hot, cold, and nauseous all at the same time, and it probably lasted for like an hour or so.

What are two things that you have no problem paying full price for?  Sealed albums and my pets’ vet expenses.

Last body part I sprained was my ankle, when I had a bad fall a couple of years ago.

Do you believe people when they say they don’t judge people?  It’s hard to for the most part, but I’ve noticed very few people people really don’t. Most of the time it’s bullshit though.

Alright, I think i’m done BOTW 2 spamming for today. Anywho, time for some thoughts in general!

1) I hated how the shrines in BOTW were so cold and dark compared to the bright and lively nature outside (I wish they had all looked like the Master Trials challenge where there were trees and stuff incorporated inside), so I hope if we’re forced to have dungeons they’ll be more like the Wind Waker ones. 2) I hope they don’t make us use the grappling hook or anything like in Wind Waker to move around the sky islands (I hated that mechanic). 3) I’m probably one of the few people who wanted less Zelda and more of the Champions in HWAOC since i’m only really attached to BOTW (and we saw a fair amount of Tetra in Wind Waker)/apparently Zelda’s been sidelined in all the other games, so i’m hoping in vain that we get more Champions material in BOTW 2. Also, Link could stand to have some more cutscenes centered around him as well (the few we got in some of the sidequests in BOTW were great). 4) I only really somewhat care about Riju and Sidon, so I won’t mind if the new gang gets sidelined in BOTW 2 (I still think Nintendo wasted the found family/band of brothers aspect on the dead characters--I love them so much and they’re all I want!! The problem is, they’re dead and I don’t really care all that much about their replacements!!! I dunno, maybe i’m hampered by the fact that I can replay the original champions’ memories whenever I want/read their diaries, but I can’t rewatch the new gang’s cutscenes AKA i’ve forgotten their characterization since they don’t talk to me much now that the game’s over). It’d be great if they have some weaving storylines in BOTW 2 that will get me more invested in them, but currently i’m not that interested. 5) Speaking of which, I know it’s 100% not going to happen, but goddang if I don’t want the Champions to have been returned to life. Nintendo totally squandered HWAOC by not making it a true prequel/canon to BOTW (the Champions Ballad confirmed that the Divine Beasts had trials in order to be synced to the champs, so the new gen use of them wouldn’t have happened without that + Mipha thought Link had changed in BOTW yet says in HWAOC that he hasn’t changed + some scenes like “Champion Revali’s Song” never happened at all/got replaced with alternative scenes that really changed some dynamics + basically all of Revali’s time-relative characterization from his diary/pre-100 years of solitude got thrown out + I feel like Daruk got totally sidelined), so i’m still craving that Champions content. Also, I feel like it’s totally unfair that Zelda came out of 100 years totally unaged while everyone else died. Life seems to really suck for people in the LoZ universe who aren’t chosen by divine powers. 6) They’d better keep it open world and non-linear. I can’t go back to being forced to backtrack/trudge through things, I just can’t. BOTW was everything i’ve ever dreamed about in a game (truly open world + non-linear + interactive + meaningful story + lots of outfits + beautiful landscapes) with Skyrim previously being the only thing that came close to what I wanted, so I really hope BOTW 2 doesn’t deviate too much from that. 7) I really liked Kass in BOTW, but i’m not sure what direction they’d go with him in BOTW 2/i’d be fine if he sat BOTW 2 out. I worked so hard to complete all his quests in BOTW so he’d go back home to his family, GODDANGIT, KASS. 8) Someone mentioned that since the first trailer had underground aspects, we’re probably going to be playing as Zelda with the Slate there, and I agree. They didn’t make a playable model for her in HWAOC for nothing. 9) I want to be able to stable the deer and bears and stuff, but I know that won’t happen. Being able to ride the moose and rhino things from the Hebra area probably won’t happen either, but I want to ride them!!! 10) I hope there’ll be at least a few new buildings and stuff in the towns/they’ve started construction on some areas in Central Hyrule, but I guess that’ll depend on how long it’s been in-universe since BOTW. Or maybe not, considering how there’s still Karson and Hudson even though Bolson retired from Bolson Construction--insta-towns like Tarrey Town could totally be feasible if they wanted! 11) I have one foot in the camp that believes there’ll be time shenanigans in BOTW 2. HWAOC totally threw me off with it being an alternate timeline, so i’m not sure whether we’re going to be experiencing that again or time travel itself, but I definitely won’t be surprised this time around if Nintendo goes that route again (and it would be super interesting to see the Link from 10,000 years ago). I’m not entirely convinced that the Link we see exploring the sky in the second trailer isn’t our Link, mainly because he seems to still have on the blue boxers from BOTW. 12) I also heard that maybe this will be the last LoZ game ever since something something Demise something Skyward Sword something something lore from games i’ve only vaguely looked into (i’ve only ever played BOTW --> Wind Waker --> HWAOC)??? If so, it kind of sucks that I came in just when they started making games with playstyles palatable to me (I had to look up every single thing when playing Wind Waker, but BOTW let me solve things according to MY logic/I missed being able to explore in HWAOC), but at least it’ll end on a super high note/I won’t experience later disappointment, I guess. If BOTW 2 involves breaking the reincarnation cycle for the Triforcers, I would be really surprised. (On a related note, Nintendo making Ganondorf good would also be a 100% shock to me, but it would be great to end on that as a subversion. Yes, I want them to bring back the semi-complicated Ganondorf from Wind Waker.) 13) I hope they don’t rush releasing it. I heard they pushed back BOTW originally (I got it in 2019), but it came out fantastic for it! I know COVID’s been affecting things, so I really hope they’re treating their staff right and are mindful of crunch. 14) I want even more outfits (there seem to be at least two new ones, if the variant of the Hylian Tunic crossed with Link’s Champion’s Tunic counts). Give me all the outfits!!! Also, I hope we get even more hair variations in addition to the hair down option (which is all i’ve ever wanted since I saw the mod that altered the Ancient Helmet). 15) I wonder if we’re going to get a bonus for having both BOTW and HWAOC save data. 16) I wonder if we’re going to be keeping the Champions’ skills. I’m going to miss being super overpowered, if not. 17) I hope Nintendo doesn’t cave in and make surfaces climbable in the rain. Having that limiter is more realistic and Link would otherwise be too overpowered with a super climbing ability. 18) I liked BOTW’s scattered music that got more noticeable in populated areas because it was fitting for the post-apocalyptical/nature aspect. Hearing your footsteps in an open field and the buzzing of insects was super nice and prevented me from getting music fatigue (which i’d probably experience since whenever I play BOTW it’s for 5-10 hours at a time). I hope Nintendo either keeps that or makes audio options. 19) I heard that BOTW 2 is going to be super dark or something, and i’m okay with dark, but not GRIMdark, so I hope it doesn’t go that far. From what we’ve seen in the second trailer it still looks beautiful, but I hope it doesn’t do that thing that some games do where after the midpoint/a certain story point all the scenery permanently changes to be dark and scary (that’ll seriously hamper post-game playability for me if so). 20) If they expand on the Zonai, that would be super cool! Doubly cool if the time travel shenanigans involve them/ancient Link being one! 21) I kind of want windstorms to be a weather feature. We had lightning, heat, and cold, but no wind! No, I don’t count the wind geysers and the occasional breeze in Tabantha. 22) I want a chest in my house to hold more weapons than just the gear mounts. BOTW only had enough mounts for the champions’ gear, but it also had rare items like the Kite Shield and Forest Dweller’s Sword that you can’t get anymore once you use them up! 23) I want to be able to stable my horses at my house. What’s the point of that little area if you can’t stable your horse there! 24) Speaking of Link’s house: where is Zelda going to live? If the castle’s not reconstructed, it’d be neat if Link adds an extension to his house for her. 25) I hope they open up part-time jobs (think Mabinogi) as an option to earn rupees. Having to hunt for Luminous Stone deposits or feed Trott to make money can be such a chore. I think some of BOTW’s minigames/sidequests might count as those, but those minigames were either frustrating if your goal is to earn money (since most of them cost money to play in the first place and the mechanics weren’t always easy), or didn’t earn that much in general. 26) I wonder if Kilton is going to have updated items since the monsters seem to have changed. 27) I want to be able to dive underwater (mainly so I can explore the beautiful reefs over at Lurelin). A dive meter like the one from Super Mario Sunshine would be cool. Also, it’d doubly be neat if you had a separate stamina wheel for swimming and could permanently upgrade your swim/diving stamina (the speed+ swimming items just consumed your stamina faster, which was a pain)! 28) It’s definitely too late for this, but it’s a shame that the Hylians have so many face/body/hair and outfit variations, but the Zora, Rito, and Gorons don’t. The Gerudo were kind of okay with the hair and body variations, but the other races seemed to have a serious copy-paste problem. I guess technically some of the more important NPCs (ones with quests/cutscene triggers) had different coloring, but they were severely lacking in clothing variation. Also, the only old Rito was the elder??? At least the Gorons and Zora had some old folks besides their leader walking around. Very weird, but I don’t think BOTW 2 can fix any of this. 29) I wonder how they’re going to do the final boss battle, considering how epic/cinematic the BOTW 2x battle was. What can top fighting (on horseback, no less) a giant, flaming boar made out of malice? 30) I wonder what the Yiga are going to be up to, considering how Ganondorf seems to be somewhat kicking in BOTW 2.

32. Summarize a random fic of yours in 10 words or less.

Nothing Brings Me All Things: everyone deserves a bad day, bad days mean character development!

28. How well do you handle criticism when it comes to your writing?

Well! And I say that not as someone who receives a lot of criticism about her fanfiction, because I don’t, but rather as someone who has been in writing classes where people have to figure out how to tell you that the thing you wrote is not so good, actually, sad day. When I am in a creative relationship with other people and they give me sincere advice, I’m usually pretty good at hearing their words and even taking their advice! Sometimes you have to delete 90% of something to make it good and it’s helpful to have people point out which 90% needs to go.

That said, I have only ever gotten one “negative review” on AO3 really—the reader in question could not suspend their disbelief regarding the alternate universe idea I was playing with. Even now I still don’t know what to make of it, but it’s their problem, so! That’s me still trying to handle criticism well even when it’s a rough ride.

26. Is there anything you’ve wanted to write, but you’ve been too scared to try?

Oh, totally. I’d be interested in playing with more aro headcanons, but I don’t really know how to make the story compelling and I’m not sure how to spin it, exactly. The scariest idea I ever had was There Are No Comets Seen, because I wanted to play with a few kind of mature and out-of-character themes for some of the characters and I wanted to do it in such a way that recognized pain without putting it on a pedestal and that made friendship cathartic without it feeling fake or cheap. And since I finally wrote There Are No Comets Seen I haven’t really found a scary replacement yet! But here’s to hoping, right?

20. Gen fic or shippy stuff?

Gen. All the way. I went and looked at my stats and I am overwhelmingly into Gen fic. It’s not even a contest lol

9. Which character(s) do you find most difficult to write?

The Core Four, tbh. Mark writes them with just... something. And it’s really hard for me to capture as a writer! Shelby is the easiest because there’s more clay to mold, but I feel like I’ve never really written a compelling Laura and Otto and Wing are definitely My Versions of Otto and Wing and not like, THE Otto and Wing. Which, you’d think, of course their your versions of the characters, because you’re the writer, but like... I can do a good Number One. Number One is a piece of cake. When I write the Contessa she’s spicier than Mark writes her but let’s face it, she deserves it. I think I do a passable Nero, especially when he’s a supporting character. But Otto and Wing and Laura and Shelby and even Nigel and Lucy and Franz on occasion!!! yeah i dunno they’re tricky dicks, pun intentional.

(This is... not about what you think it is. And it’s also @ a whole lot of show-writers... -_-)

When they enable each other’s bad behaviors.

3. One emotional aspect of a ship that always gets you

Trust. Really simple as that. But when they genuinely open up about something fucked up they’ve been through or reveal their soft side, it like... gets me.

4. One physical aspect of a ship that always gets you

Height difference. And like, honestly, either way is amazing. I know especially in the mlm ships it’s usually the “top is taller” thing, but like... that is just as amazing as the taller one getting absolutely wrecked by the shorter one?

5. Multiship or Monoship?

MULTI. ALWAYS MULTI. How do people with only one ship even live?

6. Rare pairs or Mainstream?

Rare pairs. It never ceases to terrify me when I realize the ship I like is actually really very popular. I don’t know, it’s just... impossible to connect for me then? It’s so large, there are so many here who have already been here forever, there is ten thousand set-in-stone fanons for this ship already? I prefer to sail a smol sailing ship with a crew where basically everyone on board kinda knows each other, or like at least knews each other threw someone both know. That way also makes it easier for me to find... footing in the fandom. Also, all cards are still on the table. You get to be the first to write trope x, instead of the 10th this week alone. And I dunno, but it’s fun to be the first to do something, or not even just the first, just... when something hasn’t been done to death already.

7. Polyamory or Monogamy?

Yikes, I genuinely hate that phrasing, like... it links so much with “monogamy means being faithful” and making everything else seem like cheating, not to mention polyamorous people can be in monogamous relationships too, so it should be polyamory vs monoamory.

But technicalities aside, poly all the freaking way.

8. If the ship is physical, reversible or not?

...what? *blinks* Like. I... genuinely have no idea what this question means?? Reversible? In what context? How is the ship physical?

9. Do you always have romantic ships for fandoms?

Yes, always, otherwise I don’t consider it a “fandom” of my own.

Things I have ships for, I am actually invested in. Things I don’t have ships for are just... casual watches for me and I wouldn’t look at them as a fandom of mine. Something only becomes a fandom to me if I have a baseline investment in it and that, for me, always shows in shipping.

10. How important is the sexual part (if any) of your ship?

Very, actually. As an asexual person, the only thing I’ve ever seen in sex was a sign of trust, because you are literally never more vulnerable than when you are naked and bare and doing this. I always looked at sex as that, as a huge sign of trust in each other. That’s why the majority of my oneshots end on a sex scene, actually. It’s like... “this is where they are, they trust each other so much they share their bodies with each other and now they lay together, in each other’s arms in a gentle embrace, with nothing but this content feeling of being with the one they love on their mind”.

(It’s why I, to this day and beyond this day, will never understand casual hook ups with total strangers. The mere idea is utterly disturbing and terrifying to me, tbh.)

11. Opinion on platonic ships?

Friendships and familiar relationships are sooo important and honestly my favorite thing about fics is when they dive into what canon has only scratched upon. The potentials for friendships and family dynamics that canon deemed a waste of time to spend screentime on so they only made throwaway remarks that hint at these dynamics. I love exploring those. *^*

Yes.

I mean, even beyond fanfiction, I find marriage pretty important. I think it’s weird if you’ve been together for years and are of the opinion that you don’t plan on leaving this other person to then not marry them, tbh??

Also, it gives the nice fanfiction opportunity of taking on the spouse’s name in case of [insert abusive family here]. :D

15. Opinion on kids?

Very much yes. Seriously, creating a next gen OC line-up is one of the most fun things about being in a fandom? Also, this is how I know I have gotten Very Invested in something. My very shiny ones always get the next gen line-up, I looove it. And not just for the OTP, but like a legitimate line-up, for my favorite side-ships too, to imagine the dynamics between the kids, friendships, rivalries and love-stories unfolding them. You know I’ve dug myself in too deep when I create a third gen, where the next gen have kids together.

(My PJO line-up went a total of four OC generations deep.)

(My DC one is at two generations right now. Some parties are still in flux. Admittedly, it is also my biggest one after PJO considering it covers all my favorite Justice League members.)

2. Do you listen to music while you write? If so, what do you like to listen to?

[ You know how when you listen to enough music on Youtube that it will generate its own mix of what you might like? Yeah, I pretty much do that. Most of the time it’s cheerful video game music like Katamari or Kirby, and then it just kinda branches off into music I don’t normally search for but am glad it came up. ]

6. What is your favorite thing about writing your current muse?

[ Vivi is a personality unlike anything I’ve written before. The idea that he is actually older than he looks but mentally develops very slowly leads to some interesting misunderstandings and communications. And even while I was away, I couldn’t just let him be. I took him with me to VRChat and run around as a little Victini to try and be the cutest thing in the room. My voice doesn’t do much justice though, so I sometimes play him as mute. His innocence may be my creation, but I wish I could be half the person he turned out to be. ]

13. Who are five of your favorite characters? (In the rp community or otherwise)

HUMANS

Rosa - Undoubtedly my favorite protagonist. I really cannot put an exact finger on what it is about Rosa aesthetically that makes me like her character so much, but something has always stood out to me and I’ve loved her since.

Flannery - My first video game crush. When I had Sapphire version, I fell in love with this girl’s firey passion and red hair. After fighting her for the first time, I would go out on my journey and any time I did something significant I would go all the way back to see her and pretend I was talking about my day. How old was I? 9? Wow was I weird and innocent.

Skyla - Think I might have a thing for red heads. What Gen 5 really did well was establishing a relationship between gym leaders, and for whatever reason I liked the way they wrote her. Dunno how I feel about slamming into a wall at the gym, but they gym’s layout did stand out to me in a very good way.

Blue - Growing up watching the anime, everyone around me always looked at Gary and said “That’s the way he talks in the games,” but I never saw him that way. Unpopular opinion at the time, but I knew that Blue was actually a genuine friend. “Smell ya later” was never a weird insult about how you stink, it was just his way of saying goodbye. He did want you to get better but only so that you served as a challenge to HIM and not the other way around. He pretty much lived thinking he was the main protagonist of his adventure, and honestly we should all be thinking that way about ourselves even if we aren’t as significant as someone else. Plus, becoming a gym leader in the sequel blew my mind and I was incredibly proud of him.

Lillie (Specifically SM, not USUM) - This one is actually very personal to me. I wasn’t too fond of SM from a story stand point until I learned what the deal was with her and Gladion. In a way, the way those 2 ended up was a lot like how me and my sister ended up. Mommy issues are great. And even though I side with Gladion’s anger, Lillie had the strength to stand up to her mother. I think I froze the first time I saw her do that. I know if I spoke to my mom that way, things wouldn’t go well. I was retroactively afraid she was going to get hurt for “speaking out of turn.” But what she did took guts, and she stood her ground, and I respect that. Unfortunately the moment was removed from USUM which upsets me because that was the moment more kids like me back then needed to see. Representation of strength beyond fear.

Pokemon

Victini - DUH. He’s a cute fire rabbit with butt wings, what’s not to love?

Shaymin - Less of a duh, but still duh. I don’t know why but I’ve always shipped Victini and Shaymin. Plus, it’s a HEDGEhog. That’s a great pun.

Mewtwo - The OG Legend who’s movie made me cry. Not even just at the scene where Ash almost died, and yeah I cried over the song “Brother my Brother,” but I genuinely felt bad for the way Mewtwo was treated and can sympathize with his actions. Throughout the movie, I just wanted to give him a hug and tell him what he needed to hear, “It’s gonna be okay.”

Growlithe - If I was thrown into the world of Pokemon, you better believe this is my first choice of a partner. Who doesn’t love a fire puppo? So loyal, so fluffy, who can be in a bad mood with a Growlithe by their side?

Raikou - Is it because it was the first roaming legendary I encountered and made me pee my pants in excitement and proceeded to name it “Sparky”? Maybe. Is it the aesthetic of thunder storms of which make me smile? Possibly. Did I feel upset when it didn’t receive its own feature in a movie? You fuggin bet. There’s something about a thunder beast saber-tooth that commands so much respect and fear, I just love it.

favorite fic you wrote this year: Okay, so looking up my works on Ao3 and holy shit 2019 felt like a LONG year writing-wise. I felt like I finished Double the Trouble years ago. Also, I’m having a hard time choosing between my babies but I’m most proud of Through the Night and Three Robins Rose Has Kissed and the One Who Kissed Back for finally writing down the headcanons I’ve had in my head for YEARS, but hands down Watch Your Back is the hottest thing I’ve written ever sooo.

least favorite fic you wrote this year: John and Jane Shepard’s First Day is okay at what it’s meant for: setting up the Kord Center crossover mallverse au. But it’s rather bland.

favorite line/scene you wrote this year: Dangit. The first one that comes to mind is from a JayRose fic that hasn’t been published yet. But oof. I just skimmed all the things and this passage definitely takes the prize:

His scaled hand cradles the back of her head as Thane looks into her eyes, or perhaps someone else's. “There are two things death cannot take away--memory, and belief.”

Shepard hasn’t been to church in a long time, not since she was living on the streets of Vancouver, but something about Thane’s breath on her skin feels like benediction--his hands on her body like prayer. She’s never considered herself very spiritual, but if there’s a heaven--Shepard imagines it feels like this.

“Like martyrs, you mean?”

Felt that I’d like to share my thoughts on a sequel of my most favourite video game series. Would’ve done so much sooner but of course, distractions and other obstacles getting in the way. I apologize for the long read, and have tried to sum it up as much as possible. I can't decide whether this game or DMC3 is my most favourite. (My most to least favourite would be DMC3 and DMCV tied, then DMC1, DMC4, and DMC2. Gameplay-wise, DMC4 would be the least favourite despite DMC2 being easy. Not counting the reboot since it's not a part of the Devil May Cry universe, and I didn't really care much for that game). I had a lot of fun with this game. Even V was a nice, fresh character to play as (Felt more could've been done with him gameplay-wise, though). I even had a fangasm with the tracks playing on mission 18.

Other things I liked about this game:

1. The main 3 Sparda bois finally getting some badass-looking ultimate forms. 2. The concepts and visuals of everything, despite how minimal some of them are. 3. Nice to see my 2nd favourite character back (Vergil). 4. The variety of things to do. 5. The references/easter eggs used from the past games, and others. 6. The story, despite some plot holes from the previous games still not filled yet and how rushed the pacing went in some parts. 7. The fluidity of everything. 8. The characterization and impact with some scenes (Hard to explain but it has to do with the whole 'actions speak louder than words' kind of thing). 9. Photo mode...Must I say more about that.

The things that I didn't really like and can criticize about:

1. The music style I feel suits a JRPG game or a dance club more than a Devil May Cry game. Didn't really stick with me that much and felt I had to mute it completely in my 2nd playthrough (Plan to keep it muted in my future playthroughs). Not as memorable as the previous games' tracks in my opinion. I know I can use some of the previous tracks' music as battle themes, and I stated above that mission 18's music gave me a fangasm, but I don't really wanna listen to the music in the rest of the game since I don't really care much for it. I admit Cavalier Angelo's theme was all right and sounded pretty Castlevania-ish. 2. The ending boss battle was cheap (I hear it does get more challenging in the much harder modes, though). I understand it's for story progression purposes but there could've been more done, and even more of a challenge. Even when Dante battles Urizen Vergil on mission 17, I expected some type of crazy transformation and other stuff to happen after he eats the fruit. Would've been a cool idea if he did like a 2nd transformation half-way through the battle because the fruit's power would be too much for him, and then have Nero show up with V around that time, and Nero ends up fighting alongside you after setting V aside to safety. 3. Like what's stated in point 6 above, there are still plot holes and contradictions from the previous games in the story that don't fully explain what really happens, and why things are the way they are now. One example, how Vergil was able to hook up with someone and get it on with her. Hopefully they save that info for another title, or something. 4. It would've been nice to have more unlockable costumes for the characters. But I can see why they wouldn't really allow that. It has to do with not wanting to make the same mistake like they did with another one of their games where it was basically a costume unlocking simulator. And  that would also mean more development time which would push the game's release date (And you know how some people can get heated over delays). Plus there's the mod community so those that have DMCV on PC can have fun with custom stuff. At the same time, CapCom needs a bit of a breather from working on this game, and they want to progress on getting other things out of the way before coming back to Devil May Cry. Like what DMC3 and DMC4 went through, there most likely will be a Special Edition with most of the features added that the fans have asked for. They probably want to keep that hush-hush till the time comes, though (And most likely some time after the next gen consoles come out). 5. I understand that part of Devil May Cry is about cheesy dialogue and some silliness. But I felt the dialogue got a little too cheesy, and some parts got a little too silly (Not as bad as the reboot and DMC2, though). 6. Like what's stated in the other point 6 above, some parts of the game felt rushed. With what they have in this game already I feel deserves to have a couple more missions added, or so, to add more to its story and gameplay. This may come off as selfish but this is just how I feel. Even for the ending (Which was a nice ending by the way), it felt like something was missing...I can't describe it but I felt that something else could've been done or added in the ending and the secret ending. That alternate ending is hilarious, though. It's like the game gets mad at you for finishing it too early, which explains its bluntness 😆 7. Even though the animations and everything else in the game were nice and smooth, I felt that some of the characters' facial movements didn't sync well with some of the dialogue in the cutscenes, and some of their expressions became stone faced or puppet-like at times. A couple examples are when Dante says, "Guess I get to see with my own eyes". And Trish saying, "It's the other way around, Dante". I shouldn't complain about that kind of stuff because I know video games aren't all about graphics and visuals, but just thought I'd express a little thing I can nitpick at. 8. CapCom did an amazing job on the characters but (Y'all are probably gonna hate me for this) there are some facial features I can nitpick at with everyone. Nico, Morrison, V, and the civilians I have no problems with since they have their own concepts. The rest, there are some things that kinda bug me. I understand that they're supposed to be based off of real life models (Which are all good-looking) with some tweaks made to make them look like the characters, and are meant to look as realistic as possible. But they could've at least fixed some of those features a bit more to make them look exactly like their previous selves, only a bit older. I'm aware that humans' looks can keep changing over time, and look completely different than they did before without the use of surgery. Even Matt Walker gave a brief explanation on why Vergil's not Dante's identical twin anymore, which can make sense. But...I dunno how else to explain it. 9. Trish, Lady, Patty, Morrison, and Kyrie were wasted potential. I understand they brought these characters back for fanservice purposes, a little bit of story progression, and CapCom was on a budget and timer for how many figures they can add. But more could've been done with these characters to bring more characterization and impact. I expected Kyrie and Patty to make physical appearances in this game as well. Let alone Lucia, but I can understand from the DMCV prequel novel on why they couldn't/wouldn't make Lucia appear again. It also would've been nice to see more flashbacks of the Sparda bois from their childhood, and even add Sparda in a scene. In conclusion, I loved this game and I consider it as one of my top favourite Devil May Cry games (And overall video games) of all time (Like what I stated above). It was definitely worth the 10+ years of waiting. I feel that there are some other points (Both positive and negative) missing in my review, but I think this is pretty much all I can think of what I liked and didn't like about this game.  Can't wait to see what else CapCom comes up with for this series.

I'm stealing this from Twitter to do on this so I don't run into tweet or thread limits. What's that? I don't have enough followers to fill up enough likes? TOO BAD I’M DOING THEM ALL ANYWAY.

1. I don't like to admit it, but at this point, Waluigi honestly makes the most sense. If he counts as Wario, though, then fuck it - Geno would rule. Show the Mario RPGs some love.

2. Dixie. I was honestly hoping for her over K. Rool. Don't get me wrong, K. Rool is infuckingcredible and I'm thrilled he's in, but some people seem to think it's a binary choice between more female characters or more villains, and that's stupid and weird, but if it's true (which it’s not) then I will always pull for more female characters. Plus she'd basically be Diddy with a bunch of hair-based moves. That would rule.

3. Tetra. Preferably with ideas from her Hyrule Warriors moveset. Flipping around, shooting shit with water magic, and endlessly spinning around with a cutlass is something that should translate to smash pretty well.

4. Adam as an Echo of Zero Suit, jet heels included.

nah, just kidding. Honestly, the Metroid representation in Ultimate is already really good, so it's a tough choice. However, since they did shrink Ridley down to his NES size, maybe they could do the same with Kraid. He's basically the only major Metroid character left who would work. Of course, if Sylux does end up being a part of Prime 4...

5. I don't really know who from Yoshi would be good who wouldn't be better as a part of Mario. I guess Kamek? Or for maximum yuks, a normal-ass Shy Guy. Or...no, wait, I've got it. BABY MARIO.

6. Bandana Waddle Dee. Without question. He basically already has a smash moveset. I'm honestly shocked he isn't already in.

7. Krystal, definitely. Her assist trophy is a good start. What would be cooler would be combining her staff with typical Star Fox gadgets and putting her in a Star Fox uniform (blue jumpsuit, the white jacket) so people would have to work a little harder to be horny about her.

8. Honestly I stopped playing Pokémon so I'm not sure who's good anymore. Decidueye looked pretty rad though. But since we already have a Gen 7 rep, I think Sceptile would be pretty cool too. Either way, grass types need more love in smash.

Though, with the Fire/Fighting overload, it's funny that none of them ever made it into Smash. If it had to be one of them for whatever reason, Blaziken is the best of them.

9. Everyone says Ninten, but ehhh. Would he really bring anything Ness and Lucas don't already do better? Let's do Paula or Kumatora, let's get some kickass black magician girl action in here.

10. Everyone always says Black Shadow. Black Shadow looks dumb and boring. I want Jody Summer. Again, I will always pull for more female characters, and I want to see a kickass lady with an extra-ass Captain Falcon moveset.

11. Uhhhhh I dunno. They did a lot of good ones already. But since I have to think of somebody... Blaster Master was the other NES game I had, so maybe Jason and/or the SOPHIA tank. I remember the tank being pretty agile too. They could do the original or the Blaster Master Zero redesigns, either works, but I almost feel like the original NES design is more likely considering how they handled Simon in this game - making him hearken back to his original well-loved design instead of trying to do one of the weirder modern interpretations. Either way, a vehicular-based character would be really interesting!

12. ALLLLLLL OF THEEEMMMM

Ok no seriously. I fell in love with Edelgard the second she was revealed (can't beat a sensibly-dressed noblewoman voiced by Cristina Vee with a giant axe), and I want to see people's heads explode when they try to comprehend a Fire Emblem anime in Smash who doesn't have a sword. Celica would also be awesome. Maybe she could be like Robin, but her spells don't break - they damage her instead. Or promote Lyn. Heroes proves she's still a fan favorite.

Whatever the case, I welcome them all and laugh in the face of those who are still angry at so many Fire Emblem characters. Die mad about it.

13. Viridi would be pretty sweet. She did a lot in Uprising, but she still felt held back somehow. Getting to play as her in smash would be a good halfway point. I get that she's a Mii Swordfighter outfit because that was the only way they could do her staff, but I imagine her being an Echo or semi-clone of Palutena ala Isabelle/Villager.

14. If not Waluigi, then probably Ashley. Everyone always says Ashley though! So for some variety, maybe Kat & Ana, as a katana-wielding duo like the Ice Climbers. I'm surprised they're no longer in Ultimate.

15. Raiden, as he appears in Metal Gear Rising Revengeance, without question. It's one of my favorite games ever, we'd be spoiled for music choice, and his moveset would rule. I can just imagine a final smash consisting of chopping them into a billion pieces (they wouldn't ACTUALLY be cut apart, of course, this game isn't rated M) and pulling off a Zandatsu while RUUULES OF NAAATURE screams in the background.

16. I was really surprised they didn't promote Shadow to an Echo. He seems tailor-made for the concept. But even then...I'd prefer Tails. Let him claw back some of the coolness he's lost. Give him some gadgets like in Sonic Battle (I feel like I’m the only one who remembers that game), a bunch of tail whip attacks, and a final smash involving strafing the stage with the Cyclone.

17. A Beady Long Legs so I can freak out and stomp on them forever for giving birth to my arachnophobia.

No, really, I have no idea. There isn't really any good idea that wouldn't just echo who's already there. Maybe Louie with a different Pikmin loadout.

18. K.K. Slider. He's just as much of a mascot as Tom or Isabelle are, and I feel like he's underappreciated or forgotten in that regard. I want to smash fools with an acoustic guitar. Maybe he could copy Jigglypuff's up B and play music to lull people to sleep too.

19. Proto Man! Or, if he'd be too similar to his brother, X. X would be pretty awesome, actually. Like a taller Mega Man with a command dash and some of the crazy powerful MMX weapons, with the Nova Strike as a final smash.

20. ...Er. Good question. I never played Wii Sports Resort or Nintendo Land or Miitopia or anything like that, and I feel like those would probably be the best places to draw someone from. Maybe some Miitopia classes. I don't know what that would entail though.

21. Mike Tyson.

No, probably Mr. Sandman or Mr. Dream or someone similar. A big final boss, anyway. Or maybe Glass Joe for maximum yuks. He'd be the joke character.

...No, wait, definitely Mr. Sandman. He'd be the first explicitly black character in Smash! That's definitely worth something!

22. Ms. Pac-Man. Like. Hello???

23. It's probably gotta be Rex & Pyra/probably Mythra too, but the only bit I've actually played of Xenoblade 2 is a bit of Torna. I did like Lora's design though, so maybe her and Jin and...uh, her other Blade whose name I can't remember.

24. Again, people saying stuff like M. Bison or Akuma. Eff that. Let's get Chun-Li in here! Show Fox how the rapid kicks are done! Get another Laura Bailey-voiced character in there! Recreate EVO moment 37! Do it you cowards!

25. Out of all of Final Fantasy, I'd probably be happiest with someone classic, like Cecil or Terra. That said, I generally do like all the games, so I'd be fine with someone like Squall or Noctis or even frickin' Lightning. But the thing that'd make me REALLY happy would be if they double-dipped into 7 and pulled Tifa. Get a kickass soft-spoken lady brawler in there! She's the only one who's willing to put up with emo Cloud anyway!

26. Jeanne, it's really the most obvious choice. Though Rodin would be cool because, again, just to have an actual black person in Smash. THERE IS NOT A LOT OF POC REPRESENTATION IN SMASH. That's an important thing!

27. I haven't even played Splatoon 2 or Octo Expansion, but I love the Octolings, it's gotta be them.

28. Alucard is the obvious choice and would be perfect. But in the interest of not always picking the obvious choice...Soma would be an amazing backup choice. Just as powerful (arguably moreso, he has greater weapon variety) and cool (make one of his victory lines be "I'm a lot cooler now!" like the massive fucking dork he is). And his games were the best ones in the series. don't @ me.

(Ecclesia is a very close second though. Shanoa would also be amazing, but she's not nearly as well-known.)

29. PUT MASTER HAND ON THE CHARACTER SELECT SCREEN FOR REAL, YOU COWARDS.

I uh, don't really know aside from that. Maybe a Fighting Polygon? Gotta respect your roots and all.

30. I will always pull for Isaac for something like this. If Bandai Namco decided to let Tales have further representation than a Mii costume, I would also really fuckin’ love Lloyd or Yuri.

But...to be totally honest, it’s another JRPG that has stolen my heart as of late. I would fuckin love it if any of the Octopath Travelers joined the fight. Olberic would probably fit the best, but I'd love it if they managed to make Primrose or Ophilia work. Ideally, I could have all eight and wouldn't have to choose!

Best/worst title? Best title: i still like “at the end of many worlds.” i weirdly still like “Blackbird” too even if it has nothing to do with anything... Worst title: “Rest.” :/ also like all of the abandoned wips bc i didnt care. and “Keith & Lance's Island Adventure.″ some of my zine fic titles were also... bad. im bad at titles.

Best/worst first line?

Best: Keith & Lance's Island Adventure. ok the title is bad but this line? this really sets the tone for whole fic. you know what youre getting yourself into here.

When Pidge invited Keith to a fully-funded graduation party aboard the Holt family boat (“the smaller one, anyway,” she’d said), this is not exactly what he'd pictured: three of them standing on a wobbly dock, packed bags at their feet, sky cloudy and gray, while the Holt siblings stand on a little ledge off the back of the boat and deny entry.

Worst: ive got two for this lol

at the end of many worlds: even i have to read this a couple times to figure out what i was trying to say. at least you know youre in for pain...

Keith’s mother shows up to interrupt movie night often enough that, this time, Keith almost doesn’t realize anything’s wrong. Almost, because she’s silhouetted by the movie, but she’s clutching her arm and panting for breath, and in the thin edge of light around her he sees a wet and vibrant red.

Divergence: because all your friends being dead is EXACTLY like losing at dodgeball. yeah, theres a reason i abandoned this one.

Hunk always hated playing dodgeball. Not because he was bad at it--though he was--but because he always ended up the last one standing, and therefore the only target for the entire other team. It was due to a tendency to hang unnoticed in the back, he knew, but that didn't change the sickening, empty feeling of looking around and realizing there's no one left but him, and there's no way he can win. Only wait for the inevitable.

This, Hunk decides, is a lot like that, only, like, a billion times worse.

Best/worst last line?

Best: The Pining-Plant. there are a few others that were cute too but this one is also good out of context so

And then the pod swishes open and he's scrambling to catch Pidge as she stumbles out. She clings to his arms to steady herself and his heart swells.

"Falling for me again, huh?" he asks, and she groans loudly.

"Let me go, I'm getting back in the pod," she says, and he laughs. He doesn't let go, and neither does she.

Worst: if im bad at titles, im worse at endings. most are bad. i suspect the ending to “Rest” is terrible but i cant bring myself to even open that shit again so: Believe Me. if weather were a recurring theme in this fic, itd be fine, but as is its just... a weird note to end the fic on lmao

Hunk rocks back on his heels. "We aren't counting this as our official first date, right?"

"I dunno," Keith says, and now he smiles at the rain instead of frowning. It shows no sign of easing up, but whatever—they're soaked anyway. "This seems pretty good to me."

“...All right.” If nothing else, it’ll make a good story. And, Hunk had to admit—he’s pretty happy with how it’s turned out, rain and all.

But next time, he's double-checking the forecast, just in case.

Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted?

more than i expected! considering ive been in grad school all year!! i wrote about the same amount wordcount-wise in 2017 which i spent only half in school so. idk how i managed it.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted last year?

the anonymous fic was a surprise but im not gonna talk about that lol. otherwise... nah, its all been my usual stuff.

What’s your favorite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest.

blackbird, probably. i like working on that one. summer heat was also fun, id sort of forgotten about it bc it was a zine fic but coming back to it, i really liked it. likewise with third time’s the charm. and i like t6p a lot even if i kinda hate drawing for it :’)

i feel like i answered this in the favorite story q lmao. you’re my home also gets a shoutout, that thing was,, super self-indulgent lmao. and id be lying if i said i didnt have fun with parts of ateomw, even if its mostly sad.

Story with single sweetest moment?

man i write a lot of fluff but so much of you’re my home is just tooth-rotting. heres part of the proposal scene lmao

"Lance!" Keith yelps, barely rescuing the ring from falling into the sand with them. Lance pushes himself up on his arms, silhouetted by the sun and glowing with it.

"Really?" he asks breathlessly.

"Yeah," Keith says, and maybe he should've prepared something to say, that's a thing people do, right? Hell, he's winging it. "I know we can't stay here on Earth forever, 'cause we're paladins, and there's still stuff out there we gotta do. And I know you probably want to stay because this is your home—but you're my home, and if we gotta go, at least you'll have me, good or bad." He grins crookedly. "Or rocket science. Whatever happens, I'll be there."

Hardest story to write?

well t6p gets a shoutout, but its not the writing thats the hard part for that. uhhh ive struggled with parts of blackbird. i remember k&l’s island adventure giving me a LOT of trouble, i think i posted late lol

Easiest/most fun story to write?

anything short uhhh for all the infinite realities, i kind of just sat down the other day (actually i was in bed but) and was like “im gonna write this” and then in the morning i just sat down and wrote it in one go. i dunno if id call it fun, but it was easy. t6p is super fun to write but, as mentioned, drawing it sucks.

Did any stories shift your perceptions of the characters?

no... my perceptions probably have shifted but not due to anything i wrote in particular. i did talk myself into liking allurance with a prompt fill, though, but im not sure that was 2018...

Most overdue story?

all the infinite realities lmao. at the end of many worlds needed that happy ending. and another shoutout to t6p, because thats been going on over a year and im still nowhere.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?

does posting my abandoned wips count? ive still got some of those hanging around... blackbird was a bit of a risk bc my last longfic was written while i was unemployed and out of school, so like i had the time for it, and now i kinda dont. still chugging tho. ateomw b/c of all the death but it turns out i really like writing whump woops. and writing any sort of kissing always feels like a risk bc i suck at it but im getting better lol... i hope...

Not as much anymore. I need to get back into it. I guess at the height, it was like... a lot. Like hours a day but then the real world came. It really depends if I hit flow. Then I can do hours again. But that’s been rare lately for whatever reason and I’ve decided putting pressure on it just makes it worse. So I’ve freed myself to step away and do other things if that’s what I want. Writing is just a hobby for now and so should be fun. 

DO YOU HAVE A ROUTINE FOR WRITING?

Hmm... no? I don’t outline or plan or anything like that. I usually just daydream it for a while (days to weeks depending on how long/complicated the story is) and then sit down and write it. Read it over once or twice for typos before posting. 

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE KINKS/TROPES/PAIRING?

Kinks - I don’t write E-stuff. For reading... i dunno. Slow-burn really. Is that a kink? I like when it’s well-written. I have a few strict Nos but other than that, if it’s well-written, I like it. 

Trope- I like a bit of angst with my fluff. So like hurt/comfort works for me? Really any of the tropes work if there is some angst. I don’t really enjoy just RAW fluff.

First ship you ever read fic for: Huh... Aladdin? Digimon? Back in ff.net days? I honestly can’t remember. I’ve been reading fic since I was like... 9.

First ship you ever wrote fic for: Aladdin! 11 year old me was writing some BAD fic back in the day. It has now been taken down. And lost I think? it is probably on a floppy disk somewhere. 

Ship you write the most now: Sterek or Check Please Stuff. Zimbits. But honestly, I like gen check please a lot. So pure ship, probably Sterek still. 

Ship you read the most now: on a stucky kick! (Because that angst is good in that fandom. give me all the post-winter soldier recovery fics please)

Newest ship: Well I just watched Anne with an E so anne/gilbert is a new obsession but they are very young so I haven’t read much fic yet. 

Rare ship you want to read more of: ?? I don’t know. I haven’t been reading as much fic as I should. 

Your taboo ship:  Is this one that I don’t like or that other people don’t like? Well, I’d guess I’d say Sciles, for one that other people don’t like but I do (sciles or mchaleinski). And then I don’t personally read any kent/jack or kent/bitty.

They never met in canon ship: hmm.... patater? I mean they have met but like playing a sport for 3 seconds. i don’t read much of it but i’ve liked a few of the fics (and wrote one) and do enjoy it!

Your unexpected ship: Chowder/Parson (I don’t really ship  them, but their friendship in my body-swapping AU took even me by surprise)

The ship you always forget to give love to: HOLSOM! How have I not mentioned them yet? And Allydia. 

Ship your OC with a canon character (if applicable): ... so many of my OCs are already in such happy ships with each other. hold on let me go check leda’s answer... LOL SHE SAID THE SAME THING. 

A ship you’re embarrassed to ship: Hmm.. I don’t do RPF but one time I read a shane/ryan from buzzfeed unsolved fic. It was a WIP so they hadn’t actually gotten together but it was well-written. I wouldn’t say I ship them though. I have a pretty strong mental block because they aren’t fictional.

Ok, so with episode 13 of Tokyo Ghoul :RE now being out, I can safely say that my prediction of what they’d do was off the mark. I’d certainly have liked it, but hey, sometimes you just don’t hit the mark. Anyway, since then, I’ve rethought the approach they’d take. Rather than 2 arcs made up of 6 episodes each, with the second arc merging a lot of events, I suspect there’s just gonna be 1 arc that gets cut, and we’ll rather get 3 arcs in batches of 4 episodes.

So after the cut, here’s my thoughts on how I believe they’ll organize it, some things I pictured in my head better than others.

Episode 14: 68-76, Cochlea half of 81.

Opens up on the Cochlea invasion and Furuta seeing Kaneki on the camera. Cut to Hinami and Kaneki, title card at the end of 69, first half chapters 69-72, second half chapters 73-76 and second half of 81, ending with Kaneki breaking Arima's quinque from 81, and then Furuta revealing his kagune and countering Eto.

Episode 15: 77-87.

77 is cut except for the ending (Suzuya vs. Kurona already started in episode 13). Opens up with 78/79, Mutsuki's backstory and death of Torso, with Torso's backstory heavily abridged, Urie finding Torso's corpse (end of 77) and getting the info of the death of the special class. Title card after Arima slits his throat, first half 78-83, second half covers 83-85 up to the reveal of the dead Special Class mystery and Akira/Houji vs Tatara starting, move to 87 to finish Suzuya vs Kurona and set up a cliffhanger on Takizawa choking Akira, followed by the rest of 85/all of 86.

Episode 16: 88-98.

Mostly a condensed version of volume 9, with some changes: Koma and Irimi don't show up (remain dead until Spieldose), Amon flees and doesn't get captured by the Qs, Matsuri gets attacked on the ship by the clowns so there's no one left in Furuta's way (I believe this is the reason why Matsuri content from the early parts of the arc was cut).

Episode 17: 99-103, first half of 104, end of 116, 117-119.

Kaneki forms Goat in the intro, opening plays. 100-103+first half of 104 ("people without things to protect never fight to their last") make up the rest of the first half, but Matsuri's moments+references to the Clown Siege are cut, Furuta's already in power, and The Great Wheel saves Akira without tha lab infiltration. Second half is the end of 116 plus 117-119 with references to the Clown Siege events cut. Intro to the Oggai, Rize's fate revealed, and Touka going to talk with Akira mark the end of the episode.

Episode 18: 120-128.

Mostly straightforward adaptation, 120-124+implied 125 cover the first half, timeskip is moved ahead to 126 and the wedding is contrasted with the brutality of 127. Ends with the reveal of Furuta's plan+Ayato witnessing the remains of the underground city.

Episode 19: 129-133, 24th ward parts of 134-136, 139, intro and Kaneki/Tsukiyama talk from 140.

First half is 129-132, focusing on Kaneki and Touka's romance+Kaneki's failure to act, first half ends with Urie's "we'll become terrorists", Touken wedding and the expedition leaving. Second half focuses on the attack on the 24th ward. Ending of the episode is the Kaneki/Tsukiyama talk from 140, Touka running into Juuzou, and the meeting of Urie/Iwao with Furuta at the CCG offices.

Episode 20: CCG half of 136, 137-138, 141-146.

A few noticeable changes: Timeline-wise, this happens at the same time as the 24th ward assault. "Furuta" in the CCG offices is revealed to be Donato at the end, Clown Siege reveal merged (Mikito and Iwao captured Donato). The fate of the White Suits is just implied, Yomo vs. Tooru/Aura is greatly abridged. First half covers up to the first half of 143, as Kaneki gears up to fight Juuzou. Second half is the rest of 143, and 144-146, ending with the flashforward from episode 1 (Urie sees Dragon right after the battle, everyone comes back to witness the devastation, ends with Touka looking at him). Some other scenes of characters surviving Kaneki's devastation, like Suzuya's survival shown in 148, are pushed ahead.

Episode 21: 147-156.

First half is 147-151, with content generally abridged. Second half covers 152-156. No major changes, but first gen Qs interactions in the second half are prioritized, with second gen Qs dealt with mostly offscreen.

Episode 22: 157-165.

First half 157-161. Opening theme after 157, title card at the end of 158, then rest of the first half. As Kaneki attempts to swim through the gates, we cut to Touka finding him and cutting him out with the Qs aiding her last second, first half ends with Furuta and V making it to Rize and the source of the toxin. Second half is 162-165. Interactions are slightly abridged and the timeline is more linear. Episode ends with the Donato-controlled Eto entering the battlefield, mirroring episode 22 of part 1 (episode 10 of Root A). 

Episode 23: 166-172, 175.

Yet again, no major changes. First half is 166-169, ending with Uta revealing his Kakuja. Second half is 170-172, but following Donato's death, we move right to 175. Following the cliffhanger of Eto and Naki's return, we move on to the end of 172, with Furuta and Kaneki's fight starting and Furuta's counter to Kaneki mirroring Furuta and Eto from episode 14.

Episode 24: 173-174, intro to 175, 176-179.

First half up to 176, dealing with the Kaneki-Furuta fight underground. Second half 177-179. Wishlist of changes (because I dunno if they’d happen, but I wish): Showing Ayato actually rescue Kaneki, Eto's fate being less vague and her getting a bigger role in the ending to mirror the first episode of the season (major players were Kaneki, Furuta, Eto, and Ayato)/because it’s Eto, less exposition and more showing what characters are doing in the ending.

We’ll see how this ends up. But I’d actually rather like this. Sure, there’d be compression and cutting, but I didn’t mind the way they did it in episode 13 considering that I feel they still had a hang of what makes the series what it is. And it’s not like they haven’t made changes that I wouldn’t consider positive, the new version of the Kaneki-Eto conversation that we got in episode 13 was something I legit really liked. But anyway. Those are my thoughts on it. We’ll see how it pans out.
