STRUGGLE AGAINST INJUSTICE! The Molly Maguires were a group of Irish immigrants who busted their asses in Pennsylvania coal mines. They worked in horrible conditions before there were any sort of workers’ rights or protections. Things were so bad that these Celtic laborers formed a secret society named the Molly Maguires after a gang of cutthroats back in Ireland. The Mollies did what they could to fight back against their oppressive employers. Destroying equipment, assaulting offending managers, and generally wreaking havoc where they could. - The Molly Maguires were eventually infiltrated and taken down by the Pinkerton Agency. Before he was taken from his jail cell to hang for his crimes, Alexander Campbell, the Molly leader, slapped his hand against the cell wall. The hand print has been cleaned and painted over several times over the last century. Yet the handprint continues to show through on the cell wall.
