KOSA has been introduced in the House.
It will be discussed in a hearing next Wednesday (April 17th) along with other related bills. There's a calling day planned for the day before (April 16th) to show just how much resistance there is to this bill, but you don't have to participate in that to tell your reps it's garbage.
It hasn't been passed in the Senate yet, so contact your Senators too!
Here are two email and call tools (be aware that the Bad Internet Bills tool will take you through a number of relevant representatives, most of which won't be your local reps. Stop KOSA will give you the option to call after you send an email):
Your representatives might also be available to fax via FaxZero, which is completely free - just make sure you click the confirmation links in your email to actually send your faxes. It accepts regular .txt files for the fax, along with common file types like .docx and .pdf. You can copy an email script or the call scripts from this post for the body of your fax:

God am I burnt out about this, but here’s another terrible internet bill you need to call your senators about!
Specifically, you know the whole thing how on Twitter you can’t say the sort of hyperbolic things in hatred of politicians that you could say on the rest of the net? To the point where you have to even fucking censor the word “kill” or “die” in some cases?
Well, this bill, the See Something, Say Something Online Act of 2022, would mandate this for the whole of the net. And you could get arrested for it. And they’re trying to shove this in a must-pass bill, the National Defense Authorization Act.
And it’s also by everyone’s favorite Senator Manchin! You know, the one who’s one of the two assholes responsible for why even the few good things Biden wanted to do didn’t get to happen? God I hate that guy!
Anyhoo, the bill they plan to graft this onto is currently in the Senate Armed Services Committee, meaning if one of the following senators represents your state, call them and tell them to keep this out of the NDAA:
Jack Reed, Rhode Island, Chair
Jeanne Shaheen, New Hampshire
Kirsten Gillibrand, New York
Richard Blumenthal, Connecticut
Mazie Hirono, Hawaii
Tim Kaine, Virginia
Angus King, Maine[4]
Elizabeth Warren, Massachusetts
Gary Peters, Michigan
Joe Manchin, West Virginia
Tammy Duckworth, Illinois
Jacky Rosen, Nevada
Mark Kelly, Arizona
Jim Inhofe, Oklahoma, Ranking Member
Roger Wicker, Mississippi
Deb Fischer, Nebraska
Tom Cotton, Arkansas
Mike Rounds, South Dakota
Joni Ernst, Iowa
Thom Tillis, North Carolina
Dan Sullivan, Alaska
Kevin Cramer, North Dakota
Rick Scott, Florida
Marsha Blackburn, Tennessee
Josh Hawley, Missouri
Tommy Tuberville, Alabama
Here's where you can find means of contacting your senators, please do so, and please boost this due to Tumblr’s stupid policy of zapping posts with links in them from their searches!

KOSA update from Stop Internet Censorship Discord
@everyone  Update on KOSA and all these other bills: We know DesignItForUs is visibly frustrated these bills have gone nowhere. "Child Safety" bills like KOSA, earn it, stop CSAM, have all not moved much and Schumer has slightly shifted to focusing more on AI. DesignItForUS and a bunch of other child orgs are heading to DC this weekend to lobby for KOSA this upcoming week. It is very very likely that it will move to markup in the week following that, which means it will pass out of committee and onto the Senate Floor where it will most likely pass due to the massive bipartisan support it has both in and out of congress. After KOSA is marked up, all these bad internet bills could very much get rolled up into one package and passed like that, destroying the internet all together. My advice is go all out this weekend and throughout July. This month is *the* decisive factor for what happens going forward. Call call call call the Commerce committee **__(202-224-0411)__** and Cantwells office **__((202) 224-3441) __**. Contact influencers and orgs by dming them and asking them to speak about KOSA.
Previous announcment
July is going to be decisive. We know that "child advocacy: orgs are heading up to Congress that month (don't know the exact dates yet, but the first week the Senate is not in session due to holiday). Those three weeks after are going to be some of the most important for KOSA. Currently, we know Cantwell (Senate Commerce Committee Chair) is hesitant, but lobbying can sway her. I've also heard that she doesn't like Blumenthal, so we can use that in our favor. We also know some of these pro-KOSA orgs are frustrated that no movement has happened with KOSA, and Chuck Schumer is focused more on AI rn than these bills. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean they won't pick up these internet censorship laws again once these groups are done lobbying in July.
I called to leave messages today for Cantwell. I'm going to call all next week. **We *HAVE *to go all out this month.** Twitter, Reddit, Tiktok, Tumblr, Discord. Whatever you have, whatever connections you have with people, please utilize. Think outside the box. Both tf out of these senators by jamming their phone lines with anti-KOSA talking points.
www.commerce.senate.gov/contact
^Here is the link to the commerce committee's phone number, which is something additional we can call outside the members on said committee.

GET KOSA TRENDING.
STOP SCROLLING NOW!
AS OF FEBRUARY 21ST, 2024, WE GOT FIVE DAYS UNTIL THE DAY OF DECISION OF THE KOSA BILL, WHICH WILL CAUSE MASS CENSORSHIP ROUND THE INTERNET IF PASSED. WE NEED EVERYONE TO KNOW ABOUT THIS AND CONTRIBUTE. I'M NOT GIVING UP ON YOU ALL.
(IMPORTANT UPDATE: Kosa will not necessarily pass on the 26th. It only has the support to pass in Senate, and we STILL HAVE TIME. That being said, time is of the essence.)
WE'RE DOWN TO THE WIRE BUT WE CAN'T GIVE UP YET. IF WE GIVE UP, EVERYTHING IS OVER. IF WE DON'T, AT LEAST WE HAVE A CHANCE.
I'M THE ONE WHO SOUNDED THE ALARM, AND I'M NOT GOING TO CURL UP AND DIE YET.
Reblog this post in every LEGAL way you can under the Tumblr guidelines with the appropriate tags. TELL AND TAG EVERYONE YOU KNOW, then add the tags to see below... and more if you can think of any complying.
Visit badinternetbills.com if you want to find a way to defeat KOSA. It WILL NOT take much of your time. Reblog with any other information or sources, too-- but make sure to reblog if you can.
Reblog if you support lgbtq+ content.
Reblog if you support questioning queer youth and/or abused youth getting the information they need.
Reblog if you support Ao3 and/or other sites that wholeheartedly preserve talentedly made media.
Reblog if you're going to repost this on other sites than Tumblr and spread the word across Twitter, Tik Tok, Pinterest, or elsewhere, alongside the link to badinternetbills.com.
Reblog if you think KOSA is unfair and shouldn't be anyone's problem -- including the adults ALL OVER THE DAMN EARTH forced to face the mass censorship it causes because "think of the American Children!".
Reblog if you support internet activism and Palestine.
Reblog if you hate fascism or censorship, and don't want actually serious and helpful conversations censored on the internet.
Reblog if you value the internet in any way at all whatsoever.
CHECK THIS PETITION, TOO! https://www.change.org/p/stop-the-kosa?recruiter=1331807538&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=sms&utm_campaign=psf_combo_share_initial&utm_term=psf&recruited_by_id=57368c40-d0fd-11ee-98f7-2175430f819f&share_bandit_exp=initial-36809664-en-US
(Also, please reblog with at least "stop kosa" as a tag and not "kosa". I made the mistake of not adding just "kosa" as a tag...)
We won't let this stand any longer. Let's start a riot and get this trending.

As of now, Florida and Kansas have passed bills that align with KOSA.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So many people have held back on speaking out against KOSA or signing petitions because "it probably won't pass." But we have proof that it very well can and will.
So what can we do right now?
The same thing we've been doing: bring awareness and protest.
Here are a few websites you can visit to sign petitions:
https://www.badinternetbills.com/
https://www.stopkosa.com/
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2024/02/dont-fall-latest-changes-dangerous-kids-online-safety-act
You can also call your state reps. This post explains how you can do that.
Good luck, everyone! Don't give up yet.

So apparently KOSA (2024 edition) is getting either thrown out until next year or put into effect in six days. That was a guesstimate based on a different person saying that's when Congress is back in session and may be false.
Update that's going in the main post at the top: it has enough support to pass Congress.
It failed the last two times because people were voting against it.
This time, KOSA has traction among the pro-LGBTQ parties. Because nobody is fucking calling their bullshit and screaming from the rooftops that calling it the "Kids Online Safety Act" is misleading.
What will it passing do?
Nothing much, only prevent any education on LGBTQIA+ (it's that stupid fucking argument about us grooming kids again), shut down nearly every fandom space on the internet, and make it required for most big tech companies to have your ID.
Want to have resources for kids to discover their identity readily available? Yes? Then fucking speak up against this stupid fucking bill.
Fandom spaces like Tumblr, Twitter (? I thought the MAGA assholes liked Musk?), Tiktok, Archive Of Our Own, and any other website that hosts fanfic or fanart? Either shut down permanently, forced to uproot to a different country and down for a while (best case scenario, and they likely won't be able to send any data, and therefore fanfics, to the US), or gutted so that you only get to put G rated cishet ships on there, if any shipping at all. How to avoid that? I've already said it: Call your fucking representatives.
Want to avoid the fucking dystopic task of being legally obligated to give big tech your government issue ID? Again, cause an uproar. Call your goddamned representatives.
If they can pass this, the ripple effects could be catastrophic.
So, for fuck's sake, any Americans that can impact this stupid fucking bill and see this? Do everything in your power to shut it down because you have until February twenty sixth (26th) to send this bill back to where it belongs.
And if you can't do that? Reblog, copy my tags, and boost the signal.
Sorry not sorry for ranting, making you scroll through that, and swearing a probably excessive amount, but KOSA is a bill with a GLOBAL IMPACT being passed by ONE COUNTRY because some old people are scared of two guys with who were told they were girls kissing within five hundred miles of a child. Fuck this shit, I shouldn't have to worry about bad bills in America but I fucking do because I use the internet and would like to avoid mass censorship. Fuck this, fuck conservatives, and fuck the fact that some boomers make your country's policies.
Now, if you won't mind me, I'm going to be up until three in the morning downloading fanfiction or copying and pasting them into a a text file if I can't so I can read them by the end of the week.

Another KOSA update:
Sadly, it is true that today, 04/10/2024, KOSA has been introduced to the House BUT! That doesn’t mean it’s game over just yet!
Proof:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Friendly reminder that there is much less support for KOSA in the House than the Senate. And even if it does pass the House—God forbid, it’s not over until the President signs it.
Here is the phone number for the Committee that’ll be holding the hearing on April 17th (Use the top number), and of course keep calling your Senators & House Representative.
Tumblr media
I know this is scary for a lot of people, but we have to keep fighting. Please spread this around & don’t give up!
Tumblr media
Don’t lose hope.
KEEP FIGHTING.

KOSA IS BEING PUSHED FOR REAL THIS TIME
‼️URGENT: KOSA has been officially introduced in the House as of today.
We need to spread the word on social media and urge people to send emails to Congress through stopkosa.com.
• There will be a hearing on Wednesday (17th April) where KOSA, along with some other bad internet bills, like the Protecting Kids on Social Media Act could be pushed.
• We will be having a calling day on TUESDAY (16 th April) to make clear to Congress that there is still a ton of opposition to these bills. https://energycommerce.house.gov/posts/chair-rodgers-and-ranking-member-pallone-announce-legislative-hearing-on-data-privacy-proposals-1
• House Energy and Commerce is holding the hearing so they are the best offices to call this week ‼️ https://energycommerce.house.gov/representatives
• You can use http://badinternetbills.com/ to contact your congresspeople !
• And https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative to find all of the phone numbers of your House Representative, and faxzero.com to send up to 5 free faxes a day
While the bill needs to be aproved by both the house and senate WE NEED TO MAKE SURE IT NEVER LEAVES CONGRESS.
SPREAD THE WORD !!

Wow... people having to identify themselves to a government because of they are part of a group that is seen as ¨other¨ or because they want to learn about a certain topic...where i have seen this before...
I don't know... maybe what it is considered one of the biggest red flags in steps of dehumanization of groups, mainly minorities?
Btw, this is what the people behind KOSA are trying to impose in all the United States of America.
[Image ID: News politcs article about USA politics that says ¨Kansas governor passes law requiring ID to view acts of 'homosexuality' online, vetoes anti-LGBTQ+ bill¨ /.End ID]
Link to the article: https://www.advocate.com/politics/kansas-veto-age-verification-gender-affirming-care-abortion
Edit: Since this gained more notes, for those who don't know KOSA is, it is a USA bill that was reintroduced on May 2023 (last year). It is called ¨Kids Online Safety Act¨ (KOSA for short). It has been introduced and reintroduced for a while now since 2022. It is meant with the intention to ¨protect kids¨ by restricting their use of internet by pushing age restrictions and people having to present their ID to use internet or access certain websites, quite similar to the Kansas state bill that got passed. Many groups and people have criticized this bill for the potential censorship it can come with it and do more harm to the kids than help them. Possible censorship that has been suggested this bill can bring is LGBT+ content, politics and news, mental health search, political and social opinions in general (adults included). What is more, it has been put into question the possible invasion of privacy for both minors and adults by having to share an identification to use certain websites. That people could get censored or doxxed by doing this.
As for the bill itself, there was a hearing earlier today in the Senate. ( April 17th-Wednesday). It could take a while before it gets voted and has to pass different stages. Then it would take months (18 months) to be implemented if it gets passed.
I'm not American myself, so i'm not sure how much i can do about this. What i do recommend is making calls to senators and people involved in pushing this bill to make clear your disapproval of it. Try sign petitions or just telling others about it.
