Please reblog the kosa bill posts from me and others. This bill is EXTREMELY dangerous to the queer community and especially queer minors. As a queer and trans minor in a bad home situation, I and many others would be in so much danger if this bill is approved. Its actually so horrific. One of the senators who introduced it, Marsha Blackburn, said that "protecting minor children from the transgender in this culture" was a top priority. As a trans minor, I find this disgusting and harmful to my existence, I'm sure many others my age feel the same way. So please: REBLOG THE KOSA BILL POSTS.

So I don't know what this KOSA stuff is, but I'm just now hearing about it? Quite frankly from what I've read so far, this shit ain't good.

Apparently this is supposed to "protect" children by censoring apps like Tiktok, Instagram, Tumblr, AO3, etc. etc., as if this will make it better. Which, let's be honest, it won't.

I'm not fully aware or informed on KOSA, but I know for sure this shit will cause more suicides and suffering for kids my age from what I've read and seen.

So apparently KOSA (2024 edition) is getting either thrown out until next year or put into effect in six days. That was a guesstimate based on a different person saying that's when Congress is back in session and may be false.

Update that's going in the main post at the top: it has enough support to pass Congress.

It failed the last two times because people were voting against it.

This time, KOSA has traction among the pro-LGBTQ parties. Because nobody is fucking calling their bullshit and screaming from the rooftops that calling it the "Kids Online Safety Act" is misleading.

What will it passing do?

Nothing much, only prevent any education on LGBTQIA+ (it's that stupid fucking argument about us grooming kids again), shut down nearly every fandom space on the internet, and make it required for most big tech companies to have your ID.

Want to have resources for kids to discover their identity readily available? Yes? Then fucking speak up against this stupid fucking bill.

Fandom spaces like Tumblr, Twitter (? I thought the MAGA assholes liked Musk?), Tiktok, Archive Of Our Own, and any other website that hosts fanfic or fanart? Either shut down permanently, forced to uproot to a different country and down for a while (best case scenario, and they likely won't be able to send any data, and therefore fanfics, to the US), or gutted so that you only get to put G rated cishet ships on there, if any shipping at all. How to avoid that? I've already said it: Call your fucking representatives.

Want to avoid the fucking dystopic task of being legally obligated to give big tech your government issue ID? Again, cause an uproar. Call your goddamned representatives.

If they can pass this, the ripple effects could be catastrophic.

So, for fuck's sake, any Americans that can impact this stupid fucking bill and see this? Do everything in your power to shut it down because you have until February twenty sixth (26th) to send this bill back to where it belongs.

And if you can't do that? Reblog, copy my tags, and boost the signal.

DO ANYTHING IN YOUR POWER TO STOP KOSA! It will destroy the internet as we know it and if it gets passed it will show that the constitution means essentially nothing to the lawmakers because it violates the very first amendment. It's targeting lgbtq+ spaces, fandoms in general, reproductive education, and news about the world that doesn't align with this bill makers "values". *COUGH COUGH PALESTINE COUGH COUGH*

Oh and how could I forget, they're going to attempt to take your ID to try to prevent minors from going on the internet in the first place and if they do have their legal name attached to everything they're doing (this part I am more unsure about I'd like to learn a little bit more about that part). That will not help children in the slightest.

I'm a minor who quite enjoys fandom and is an ally of lgbtq+, (and also reproductive education is so limited anyway, they teach you limited if any information at school so the internet is one of people's only option besides a select few books which, oh yeah, they're trying to get banned.) so, this bill terrifies me.

Don't panic too badly, if we continue to fight we can stop this bill.

if you haven't, call your state senator. Tell them that you don't want KOSA to pass. It cannot pass, and I'm pretty sure it won't even though it may have enough to pass Senate. There's still that chance it'll slip up. Make sure it doesn't happen. The fact that you need an ID to access the Internet is just utterly terrifying if it passes. It's such a blatant intrusion of privacy.

This will block LGBTQ content, a HUMAN RIGHT, fan art, maybe even fanfiction. Even some terrible SonAmy fanfic I wrote might be gone.

Try everything you can to vote against this. Go to Stop KOSA, badinternetbills, stuff like that. Anything will help.

Keep in mind-if it passes the Senate, it's not over for the Internet. It's only over for real if it passes the House and becomes a law. In that case, say your final goodbyes to your friends, maybe meet them in real life, do anything to stay in contact.

Because if it passes...God forbid.

I'm still holding out hope that KOSA is denied, but if it passes, I just needed to make this post. If it passes the Senate, it heads to the House next. I know we have some time left before it goes to the House but I felt the need to make this post anyway, even if we have some time left and it may not even pass.

Each and every one of you, my incredible friends, have changed my life in ways you couldn't even imagine.

Protests as kids/minors often get left out as we aren’t able to do physically as much as adults, however that doesn’t mean our protests don’t matter. It means we have to find other means. So when our means (example; social media) get threatened we have to come together to make sure we have our voices heard, no matter what or how.

Dear President Biden,

My name is ______ and I am a ______ in _____. I am writing to you to ask that you please oppose the Kids Online “Safety” Act. This act harms children, especially queer or abused children , and allows children to be indoctrinated into their parents’ worldviews.

Children, especially teenagers, deserve the freedom of the current internet. They deserve to listen to many different viewpoints, to hear the stories of many different people, to learn about many different experiences. They deserve to meet many different people and learn from them. They deserve to interact with many different forms of art expressing many different viewpoints. This allows them to form their own ideas and opinions about the world and become their own people. It broadens their horizons and makes them more open minded.

If parents are given control over what children learn about on the internet, then many parents will ensure that their children are not exposed to any views that contradict their own.

This will make it so that future generations can no longer learn more than and become better than older generations. The only thing making our society progress is younger generations learning more and becoming more accepting than older generations.

LGBT+ children under KOSA will often be stopped from accessing resources that help them learn that being LGBT+ is okay. Many children won’t be able to go against their parents’ homophobia and learn to love themselves. This will lead to many mental illnesses and suicides.

Also, abused children often go to the internet to access resources that teach them that what is happening to them is bad and they deserve better, and to access resources that help them escape. Their parents of course will not allow them to access these resources under KOSA.

But this is so fucking important. And being an American myself means that if the bill is passed, this blog might not even exist anymore!

One of the main things in America is the fucking freedom of speech—and now you’re getting rid of that by mass-censoring the internet? A place where we should be free to express our rights—good or bad?

This bill is fucking insane and, frankly, outrageous. “But the kids!” maybe you should just put more effort into fucking helping them?? This ISN’T?? If Nex were still with us, this wouldn’t have fucking helped them!

Children will get groomed. And when this happens, the appropriate legal action needs to take place. Not whatever the fuck this is.
