“So what are you getting Lucy for Valentine’s Day?” Asks a voice behind Tim and he jumps a little before turning around to see Angela behind him.

“Uh…” He says and he feels stupid because he doesn’t know what to get Lucy. This was their second Valentine’s Day together and he knows he knocked it out of the park with the necklace last year. She wore it every single day, only taking it off for work and then putting it back on as soon as she could. But this year he’s just not sure. Their relationship is more developed and they are basically living together. I love you had been said several months before and Lucy was well on her way to becoming detective. Their relationship wasn’t perfect and they fought but they always came out on the other side stronger. He just wishes he knew what to get her because she deserved it all. The sun. The moon. The stars.

He sighs and looks at his friend. “I don’t know.” He says. Angela gives him an unimpressed look.

“Well what does she want? What does she like? C’mon Tim. This is your girlfriend.” Angela says and Tim feels like snapping back at her but he doesn’t. Have the energy. Valentine’s Day is in two days and he has nothing for Lucy.

“I don’t know.” He says dully. “Maybe a matching bracelet?” Angela gives him another unimpressed look.

“You are not helping Lopez.” He snaps and then he turns and walks away from her.

Well fuck.

“Hey.” Says Tim that night when they get home from work. Lucy is changing into her sweats (his sweats) and a shirt (his shirt). “What do you want for Valentine’s Day?” Lucy peeks her head out from their room and tilts her head at him. The necklace he gave her shining on her neck.

“I don’t know Tim.” She says stepping out. “I would love anything that you get me.”

“Not helpful.” Tim says. “What’s one thing you really really want.” Lucy steps out more and blows out a breath.

“A spa day.” She says and before he can speak. “With you.” There’s a pause as he studies her, and then she’s speaking again.

“What do you want?” She asks. He thinks about it for a minute and he knows what he wants. He has for awhile since last year.

“Floor seats to a Laker’s game.” He says and Lucy raises her eyebrows there’s another long silence.

“Well why don’t I get you those tickets and you get me the spa day.” She says. He furrows his brows at her a little confused at where she was going with this. “That way we will both get what we want and we can do stuff together.”

“You don’t want to go to a Laker’s game.” He says and she smiles at him. It’s a soft smile that he loves.

“But you want to.” She says. “I know you have been wanting these tickets for a long time babe. And it might be fun.”

“Might be?” Tim says sounding a bit aghast. “Baby, these are floor seats to the Laker’s game. Front seat action.”

Lucy laughs a little bit. And he studies her, he knows she would go to this game to make him happy. Just like he would do a couple’s spa day to make her happy. To keep her smiling.

“Okay.” Says Tim. “I will get you the tickets and you get me the spa day.” Lucy grins even more now and bounces on her toes to kiss him.

“I love you.” She says and he smiles back at her because he can’t help it. She really does make him happy.

“I love you too Luce.”

Tim manages to get the floor ticket seats with Aaron’s help of course and Lucy insists on buying all the gear. Soon they are sitting right in front of all the action, with Lucy decked out in Laker’s gear. He really doesn’t know how it gets better than this and when the kiss cam focuses on them and Lucy kisses him in front of a arena full of people. He knows he will do anything to keep her happy.

Lucy lays her head on his shoulder, in the middle of the game and he kisses the top of her head. “Is this everything you dreamed of?” She asks and it’s muffled with all the noise around them. She lifts her head when he doesn’t answer right away, he turns a little in his seat to look at her.

“Yes.” He says because it is but.. it’s even better than he dreamed because the woman he loves is next to him. “But it’s better.”

Lucy scoots closer as much as she can as he looks up just to see the Laker’s score a three pointer. He grins. “Why is it better?”

“Because you are here with me. You made it better.” He says and she grins and kisses him hard.

“Happy Valentine’s Day Tim.” She mumbles. He smiles and kisses the side of her head.

“Happy Valentine’s Day Lucy.” He says and she looks up at him a sparkle in her eyes.

“It’s not over yet.” She says and he tilts his head at her curiously. “We still have our spa down.” She lays her head on his shoulder again. “I can’t wait.” He says and it’s true because he knows this has been the best Valentine’s he has ever had and he knows with Lucy it can only get better.

How famous is WIK, canonically?

When he first appears, it’s during open house day at the music faculty. His unnamed friend introduces him as “really popular on social media” and people cheer, but Porschay’s friend has no clue who WIK is.

Yes, Porschay questions his friend’s ignorance, but Porschay is a fan. He could be surprised that said friend doesn’t remember Porschay talking his ear off about WIK. I’ve personally mentioned a lot of celebrities (music, acting…) whom I think are “common knowledge” to friends and relatives as a teenager and even a young adult. They’re rarely known or only if you play a song people might have heard on the radio.

Speaking of the radio, it’s not featured much in KP, and we don’t hear any of WIK’s songs playing unless it’s part of the scene/the OST.

WIK plays his song and people clap their hands, but apart from a few fans I’ll get back to later, no one seems overly familiar with the song, there is no singing along. Later down the line, WIK’s friend asks questions for the quizz, and while WIK has music videos of his own, we’re talking about covers too, so WIK is a youtuber, with a couple of original songs featured in the show.

As I was saying earlier, a few students are really on top of things, they know the answers and want a shirt, so let’s assume 4 superfans, and a couple of casual fans. What’s left? Clueless students? We could assume everyone somehow heard of WIK at least, they’re here for open house day at the music faculty, they’re interested in music and could be invested in what students from this university produce, but it’s still very niche.

Moreover, when Porschay comes up to WIK to get a shirt after the quizz, I can’t help but notice that there isn’t a crowd. WIK is taking pictures but he’s not surrounded by fangirls, none of his schoolmates are around except for his friend, no security... He signs the shirts on the spot, it’s very amateurish as far as fan meetings go.

It reminds me of walking past a guy taking pictures with a couple of starry eyed girls at the O2. I could only assume he was some kind of influencer but neither me nor my friends (I think there were 6 of us?) could recognize him.

Kim doesn’t go to uni often, as we learn later, but when he does go to class he seems to be able to move about without being followed. As far as security goes, it’s mostly building security at his flat and bodyguards from his family. Overall, nothing suggests that he’s overly famous.

Let’s talk about Kim himself for a second. Kim wants to get away from his family, and the real challenge for him is to pursue a career in music, his passion. He never mentions anything about being famous. When he’s on stage he’s playful with his friend, but slightly shy/embarrassed with the spotlight and almost looks bored when he’s not singing, although he seems appreciative of his fans and how they notice little details.

Even with Porschay, Kim seems uneasy with being the center of attention.

Kim behaves like a youtuber more than a celebrity and canon seems to support this theory. It works out considering his social status as well, Kim can afford the studio, the guitars, the production costs, the sheer time it takes to both make music videos/play music and be nosy about his family's doings.

I’ll take a second to consider his casting as well. Jeff Satur. He’s mostly known as a youtube cover artist as well as some acting. Now, I’m not overly familiar with him and I don’t know much about the entertainment industry in Thailand, so I looked up Jeff’s charting positions: his best ranking was #115 and the worst was #288.

I had never heard of him before (I’m from Europe, so it’s not unexpected). I’d say his popularity outside of Thailand is close to non-existent if you’re not already involved in BL or specifically interested in Asian music.

With around 1 million followers on Instagram, he’s doing well for himself, but I wouldn’t say he’s famous yet (wishing you all the best, Jeff).

Which leads me to my next point: I assume Jeff is supposed to represent Kim’s popularity by sheer power of suggestion.

According to the analysis above, WIK is a local celebrity at best.

One could argue that Kim is popular in another area (fashion, producing music…) but it’s not shown on screen.

Is it even safe for him to be overly famous? The exposure could lead to complications if anyone notices his ties with the mafia, and his father might even interfere to avoid such a thing.

Assuming the Why Don’t You Stay video is canon (I’m torn, it’s also promotional material for the series and filmed as such, but for the sake of the analysis…), WIK sings in a mostly empty coffee shop, and no one pays attention to him. It might be just a way to perform in his spare time, or a small event he organized himself but the turn out is… small, to say the least.

Is Porschay the only one there?

There could be a lot of explanations for this situation so I’m not hellbent on treating it as canon, but it is an interesting choice nonetheless. The music video could feature a small crowd and it doesn’t. Maybe they’re invisible to Kim, maybe it’s thematic and specific to Kim and Porschay’s relationship, but still.

Kim connects with Porschay over their song-writing, more than Porschay's attention to details on his youtube channel and the awestruck aspect of their dynamic. I think Kim went to music school because it’s what he’s really interested in and more than fame, he’s searching for a sense of community, which would make sense with the youtube channel as well, sharing music with others.

Does he have some kind of following? Definitely. A decent following? Perhaps. Is WIK famous? I don’t think so.

GOLDEN DISC AWARDS 2023

On January 7, 2023, the 37th edition of the Golden Disc Awards took place in Bangkok, Thailand. SEVENTEEN attended and took home 3 awards: Best Album Bonsang, Thai K-Pop Artist and Best Performance.

– AWARD CEREMONY

∙ Ming sat in-between Joshua and Dokyeom when they first entered the venue to watch the first few performances. Fans present at the ceremony were amused, because Ming was the only member on their row to dance and sing along to the performances. Joshua, Dokyeom and Jeonghan seemed more intrigued by Ming's reaction to the live stages than the actual performances.

∙ After accepting their first two awards, the members were seated differently and this time Ming sat next to Woozi and Jun. The ceremony lasted quite long, and Woozi and Ming were visibly getting tired. The two vocalists let their heads hang and seemed to be dozing off, when the camera cut to their group. Jun shook Ming, who then shook Woozi and they laughed it off, a bit embarrassed that they were caught falling asleep.

∙ The members of LE SSERAFIM were seated in the row behind Ming and she frequently turned around to interact with them. Although, her members kept having to move her around, so she could pay attention to the ceremony and performances. 

– BEHIND THE SCENES

∙ When the entire group arrived at the venue and were walking to their dressing room, the girls of LE SSERAFIM were standing not too far from their door. As soon as they saw the Seventeen members approaching their dressing room, they walked over and addressed them. The two groups greeted each other and wished each other well for their performances.

Yunjin and Chaewon lightly pushed Eunchae towards Ming. The senior group were a little confused as the junior maknae didn't say anything and looked very flustered. Yunjin decided to help her member out and pulled a bag from behind Eunchae's back that she had been holding onto. The girl quietly mumbled ''It's for your birthday, sunbaenim.'' Ming was very flattered by the gesture and thanked her by giving her a hug, which Eunchae immediately reciprocated. Ming assured the young girl that she didn't have to buy her anything and that she'll take her out to dinner once they're back in Korea.

∙ While walking back from the bathroom, Ming ran into some members of ENHYPEN (Heeseung, Jay, Sunoo and Jungwon). The boys greeted her and Jungwon took the initiative to wish her a happy birthday. Ming was touched and thanked him. ''Ooh~ thank you, Jungwonnie.'' She also pinched his cheek, not able to resist his cuteness. The young boy became very flustered by her words and action, and his cheeks and ears coloured red. His members teased him and Ming simply smiled at him, finding it adorable. They wished each other luck with their performances and cheered each other on.

∙ Ming was in a very big sister-mood as she also made it to NewJeans's dressing room completely on her own. She had only met and talked with Hyein before, when they filmed a TikTok together dancing to Hype Boy along with ENHYPEN's Ni-Ki. Ming introduced herself and told them she was a fan of them. The girls excitedly thanked her and said that she's one of their role models, and that they are happy they're in the same label.

The SVT member assured them that if they ever need advice or need a listening ear, she would always be willing to talk to them or buy them some food. They thanked her again, and expressed their gratitude for her words.

∙ When Dino was on the stage with the rest of the idols born in the year of the rabbit, Ming along with Mingyu filmed him doing his dance with Changbin. While Mingyu posted his video on Instagram Story, Ming send hers to Yeonjun, captioning it: ''What you're missing here :)''
