Indigenous Sapphboy
A flag for people who are Indigenous/Aboriginal/Native and a Sapphboy.
Feel free to switch out Indigenous for Aboriginal or Native in the name of the flag.
Flag by: @arcticflowerz
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do not repost my flags/the things I coin with out credit.
This flag was made by an actual Inuk. DO NOT USE THIS FLAG IF YOUR TRANSRACE/TRANSINDIGENOUS! THIS FLAG IS EXCLUSIVE TO BODILY INDIGENOUS PEOPLE. By “bodily indigenous” I do not mean you have to be “indigenous passing” to use this flag. You can still use this flag if your white passing or not. By “bodily indigenous” I’m referring to having indigenous blood and indigenous relatives in your family tree. For those who don’t know what transrace is, it’s a transID label that means “you were born one race but BELIEVE you should have been born another race instead.” Transindigenous is just the indigenous version where “You BELIEVE you should be indigenous but aren’t”. I DO NOT SUPPORT TRANSRACE/TRANSINDIGENOUS, AS SUCH, THEY CANNOT USE THIS FLAG.
Here’s are the links to the Indigenous Vincigirl, Indigenous Achilligirl, and Indigenous Lesboy versions I made.

Nex Benedict's death wasn't just for being transgender, it was for being native too. 2 Spirits are revered in many native cultures and it is a native-specific identity. This wasn't just a hate crime against trans & NB individuals, this was also a hate crime against Natives of Turtle Island.
You cannot separate Nex's trans identity from their native identity - this is a case of MMIWG2S (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2 Spirits).
Native children being killed at school is nothing new, so it's equally important to talk about Nex's native identity and being intersectional, this is a devastating tragedy for indigenous people, the queer community & especially those of us who are both indigenous and queer.
May Nex rest in peace 🪶

I was originally planning on holding off sharing this until June, but then decided to hell with that; why wait?
FURTHER RESOURCES:
Intersections: Indigenous and 2SLGBTQQIA+ Identities – this booklet from the Native Women’s Association of Canada is more intended towards 2S folks, but is still a great read for anyone.
Two Spirits, One Voice – This video from Egale is a great, no more comments needed.
A Two-Spirit Journey: The Autobiography of a Lesbian Ojibwa-Cree Elder – This book by Ma-Nee Chacaby can be a difficult and emotional read, but very much worth it.
Becoming Two-spirit: Gay Identity and Social Acceptance in Indian Country – I have yet to read this book by Brian Joseph Gilley myself, but heard positive things about it.
Please feel free to reblog with more suggestions, if you have them!

Be thankful for who you are today, and do better than those who came before you.

I live on Iroquois land, specifically the Mohawk region. The Iroquois, or Five Nations, was brought together by Deganawidah the Great Peacemaker, and it was composed of the nations Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca.
Later on the Tuscaroras joined, and they became Haudenosaunee, or 'six separate nations.'
Happy Thanksgiving, keep your minds open, never stop learning, and don't let history become forgotten. The majority of us are already do a damn poor job of not repeating it.

While this information may technically be new, government infiltration is not. As mentioned in the video, COINTELPRO is a perfect historical example of the insidious downfall of so many leftist grassroots organizations, and guess what? We've made posts about COINTELPRO in the past!
This information isn't made to scare you though, but to empower us all to come together even stronger, even smarter, even more diligently. We owe it to ourselves, to our communities, and to our predecessors to do at least that much. As working class citizens, we must protect one another. Do not get distracted by the divisions those in power wish to ensue.
Confused on where to start? Even if you don't apply as a volunteer, @bfpnola is a safe space for all youth activists to ask questions and receive free resources! Here’s what you need to get started:

I’m thinking of ALL women this women’s history month.
Palestinian women
Transgender women
Women of color
Disabled women
Queer women
Indigenous women
Jewish women
Asexual and aromantic women
EVERY woman deserves to be uplifted and celebrated this month and every month.

In the midst of rich kids screaming “fuck the Jews” and “burn down Tel Aviv”, proof of life was offered for Hersh Goldberg-Polin.
Not that those kids will care.
The hostages were fake, but then the hostages fell in love with their captors?
They want Israeli women to speak out about the rape to believe them, but the women were lying when they spoke out anyway?
Hamas are just innocent freedom fighters for the liberation of Palestine, but also “fuck the Jews” and “burn Tel Aviv to the ground” “by any means necessary”.
There was no real violence on Oct. 7th, but also we have a video of a man’s arm blown off before being taken into Gaza. And his proof of life was released yesterday with a mangled arm and shaved head.
Just know, in your desperate search for oppression, you have alienated every Jewish person in the world. You have shown us your true colors. We will never trust you again. You began these protests before an Israeli response was even started. You don’t protest for people in any other part of that region. You don’t even protest for Palestinians when it’s their own people killing them.
It was never about Israel. And we will never forget that.

Trigger Warning: Transphobia and mentions of Nex’s deadname in the donation link before the updated message.
As someone who grew up close to where Nex is from, I am absolutely devastated but am not surprised. I myself am trans and many of my close friends are also trans or two spirit and still live in the region. This type of violence has been ongoing for a while. Myself and my friends have lived with this type of violence for a long time. Almost every single one of my queer friends from Oklahoma has been on the receiving end of micro aggressions, hate crimes, systemic oppression, and/or domestic violence. And yeah, our state doesn’t give a shit about us. I am absolutely horrified but I am also angry. And I am so angry that for many of us the answer isn’t leaving either. Economic struggles are a barrier, but for many like Nex and my Indigenous friends, there is a strong cultural connection rooted in community and the land. I just want to make things better for the people who can’t or don’t want to leave. I want my state and my community to care, and I want to stop seeing my trans siblings suffering and dying. This is a bit of a rant but I am angry, and I am fighting feeling hopeless. As much as I am paralyzed with sadness, I don’t want to stop fighting. Please help in anyway possible. I am attaching links to queer organizations in Oklahoma and to Nex’s funeral fund.
