two days ago, if someone had inquired about my favourite colour, I would have answered sea blue without even thinking about it.
yesterday, however, when my sister asked me, "tai, what's your favourite colour?" i immediately said, "purple."
specifically, royal purple.
i did not say that two days ago you had playfully swiped royal purple paint on my cheek when we were painting the banner for the college fest, mischief lighting up your pretty face. i did not say that i had retaliated, and that both of us had ended up on the floor in a fetal position, stomachs aching with laughter and tears running down our purple-stained faces.
i did not say that you looked celestial, with a smudge of that brilliant colour right on the edge of your bottom lip and cheek covered in three streaks of purple by my hand. i did not say that the way you smiled at me— brown eyes bright, brown hair matted with purple paint and pink lips pulled back to show slightly crooked white teeth— had my heart jumping from my chest to my throat. i did not say that i imagined cupping your cheeks with my purple hands and pulling you into a kiss, soft and gentle and loving.
i entirely avoided explaining to my curious little sister why my favourite colour had changed overnight.
but if anyone asks, my favourite colour is purple.
specifically, royal purple.

very important fundraiser for a very cool person whose life is really sucky right now. here is the instagram post.
TLDR (and also because it's very late at night and i am too tired to write image descriptions); Sanch (@/sleepysoyabean on ig) is an indigenous/Adivasi queer person from Assam, India who just got a breast cancer diagnosis and needs helps with their bills and expenses for the treatment, which includes a procedure called thoracentesis to remove fluid from their lungs, implementation of hormone blockers and the actual surgery plus chemo and radiation.
This fundraiser is being organised by their friend Rhea Mukherjee (@/rheealization on ig) and partner Ankur Gedam (@/da.lit.vegan on ig). The end goal to be met is about 5 lakh Indian Rupees, which is 6,071 usd. To make donations, please either scan the QR code provided, transfer directly to Ankur Rajesh Gedam on the UPI adress 8380032573@paytm, or DM either Rhea or Ankur on their Instagram handles.
Sanch has massively helped my understanding and learning of marxism, casteism, veganism and neglected sections of indian politics in general, and I'm sure she's helped with many other people's political awakenings and learnings as well. They have also been very helpful to lgbt+ Indians from abusive and queerphobic families and have organised fundraisers to provide housing, basic commodities, trans and queer-related healthcare to so many people. She really deserves as much help as she can get, and this is a very urgent and precarious situation. Even just 1 us dollar amounts to 82.36 Indian rupees in the current economy.

badhaai do & filmfare and how it affects the queer movement
badhaai do won 6 filmfare awards!! and apart from that, 14 nominations. this is such a welcome surprise to me considering how much the filmfare panders to popular films and celebrities. while i'm convinced that best actor in a supporting role was robbed from gulshan devaiah (who played guru) as well as best dialogues + best director, let's not dwell on that negativity. the war to get same-sex marriage is still on. and i'd like to thank the team for dedicating their awards to the queer community. for those who have been complaining yet again that this was a profitable venture for the people involved, think again about how much it tanked in the box office. and yes, bhumi pednekar has addressed the on-going legal battle for same sex marriage here. i would ask for jaded queer individuals like me to step back and think that there are different ways of coming together to support a social cause. making an entire film is one of them. green lighting such a film is one of them. acting in such a film is one of them. considering what the extremely homophobic government is capable of, we must take all such things into account. and when queer icons like onir also come out in support of badhaai do (btw his red carpet look on filmfare >>>), we should take a page from their book to see where they are coming from. also i went and checked out the team behind badhaai do (not just the actors). apparently the director (harshavardhan kulkarni) and the editor (kirti nakhwa) are already in hot soup with the government since they returned a NATIONAL AWARD a few years back. their reason? the growing intolerance of the government. kinda iconic. and a reminder that this is the same government that routinely sends journalists, activists, historians to jail while dabbling in the same fields and falsifying facts and history. (lmao calling our trauma an "urban elite" problem is so ironic considering they are the urban elites). badhaai do getting the second highest number of filmfare awards is one of the many victories that we have secured. please remind yourself to not alienate any sort of support whatsoever just because it doesn't fit the stereotypical narrative of activism. and after all, activism in art is the most powerful of its kind, is it not?

Honestly, kill me for saying this but the gender crises in America has really set the trans movement behind by at-least a decade in other countries. Conservatives here are citing things like untransitioned people being allowed into women’s washrooms and prison (which also resulted in rapes), teens being surgically transitioned and basically the lack of drawing the line between someone’s rights and straight up malevolence as an excuse. I have had atleast 3 people tell me how they don’t want this country to become like US as an argument against same sex marriage which isn’t even about transgenders but homosexuality. So not only is this impacting transgenders, but LGBTQ as a whole.
And this is a country where transgender are actually somewhat respected because the religion says so. I don’t even want to know the effect this will have on transgenders and queers in more ortho societies.

I think seeing Kanchan's condition gave Pallavi enough courage to take the lie detector test and live her truth. The devastated look on her face. 💔 She must've thought of the time they wasted not being together, and how now she possibly has barely enough time with her.

Khilji-kafur pair
I watched padmavat and felt like allauddin Khilji(Ranveer Singh) and Malik kafur(Jim sarbh) had amazing chemistry with sexual tension which was missing between the main couple. They have some scenes which clearly points at their relationship and khilji's bisexuality, like the hair braiding scene, bath tub scene, binte dil, the introduction of the flute scene, etc
I really didn't expect a historical queer story and went to search about the individuals history and thought their story would make such a good bl.
Even the story of Mahmud and Ayaz , babur and his lover.
I wish we can have historical bl in future as a main story not crumbs.

There are a million different personal experiences and circumstances that impact the decisions we make. Safety should always be the number one prior
But there is no queer Indian identity without queer Indians living in India
There is no queer progress in India without queer Indians fighting for it

God forbid you people portray Indian people as queer, God forbid you show them as disabled, God forbid you show them without an accent to mock every five minutes, God forbid you portray them as something else other than a doctor, engineer, scientist or some mathematic genius, God forbid you depict Indian culture beyond cow piss-drinking, smell curry eating, demonic rituals, God forbid you portray Indian People as human.
