i was wanting to ask about your writing process:

1. when writing, do you usually write most/all of your fic before starting to post it?

2. how much do you outline before starting to write?

3. how do you keep up with what seems to be a semi regular posting schedule (as in like, staying committed to a fic and actually completing it lol)

hey hey heyo!!! this is so sweet!!

it honestly depends! with ahb!, i had a very good direction and plan on where i was taking the fic so i knew each chapter before i sat down to write it! but winterlude was more free-form. i was like, i want these 15 things to happen over 4 chapters lets make it work! and then with the dinner fic, that's one that i am writing out in its entirety before i post it. because there's a lot of details and web-weaving that go into it, and if i drop a thread somewhere it'll make the whole tory unravel, so it has to be complete before anyone else sees it. so it really depends on the vibe/intricacy of the fic!!

most of the time i'll try to outline a solid timeline with beginning and then major points to the end in chronological order. (so with art heist imagine like: 1. james introduction. 2. job interview/acquisition 3. assembling the heist team 4. meeting the team 5. new hampshire training 6. practice heist 7. heist 8. art swaps (berlin/amsterdam/portofino/copenhagen) 9. regulus death 10. grieving 11. healing 12. ending) <- and then i would go in and fill in things like,,, how does a jegulus relationship develop amidst all of this? and then you get sub-plot points like the museum date, the drowning degas, the auction house date, etc. until you get a pretty good fleshed-out idea! and then as i write and have even more ideas, i can plop them down somewhere on the timeline (amsterdam coffeeshop meeting/last supper group dinner/ etc) . and before writing each chapter,,, i sort of break chapters down into mini-stories with their own beginnings, middle, ends. just to make sure something is happening in each chapter, and it has structure.

this is putting so much faith in me hahah!! my posting schedule ranges from twice in one week to once in 4-6 months. and sometimes i just delete works if im not feeling them anymore ah! but!! i will say, the biggest way i stay committed to completing a story is having an ending in mind that i'm excited to execute or get to!! like something on the horizon at the end of the story normally motivates me to write enough to get to that point. but it's also just okay to stop writing a certain story if you're feeling uninspired!! sometimes, when i'm feeling burnt-out with one story and i'm not motivated to finish it, i'll just leave it alone and go work on something i'm actually interested in for a while until i feel the interest spark up again!! (hence...months between uploads sometimes) 😋

thoughts and questions about erha...

recently just finished reading through all 311 of erha again...because the last time I read erha was like 3/4 years ago I have forgotten most of the plot twists and only remembered one or two (i mean can you blame me theres probably more than 10 plot twists i cant) and all i feel right now after finishing 2 bible worth of text is...IM UNSATISFIED with the ending!!!! i need to vent!!

like im a sucker for plot twist its a riveting read!! and although the sheer amount of plot twists is a little...excessive imo, I do think theres thought behind most of it like there were glimpses of SMJ being the villain from the start and most of them have some form of foreshadowing or like gradual build up in suspense. but the last plot twist???? hUH??? wdym theres suddenly a new type of butterly bone whatever demon thats syuuuuper untraceable and unnoticeable and Mo Ran is conveniently one of them and hes brought back to life for the 26th time???? HUHHHHH???? like maybe im wrong or missed it out cus i was reading frenetically but i dont think theres a single hint or instance to suspect Mo Ran has the demon blood in him?

urgh idk anyway convenient writing aside, aside from Xue Meng I dont think many of the side characters get a neat enough bow on their ending like would love more words about YWX and SMJ especially??? like he literally disappeared after sending CWN off like??? and get 5 sentences more or less. (i havent read the 39 extras maybe theres more there, I might have the last time i read erha but i have no recollection and im not in a hurry to read them, i need a break! why are there so many extras!) and dont even get me started on that split personality thing...I hate it!

also i have 2 genuine questions about the plot i might have missed it while reading cus I was to engrossed in trying to make sense of mtl but 1) so did SMJ have a proper crush on CWN or not like...? or was it just like a little splash of quirk in character cus at first I thought like its going to play a huge part as the story unravels but it...doesnt seem like it? and speaking of SMJ 2) what happened to the other butterfly bone demons that crossed the bridge after the demon gates closed and the brudge crumbled? did they just die?? or did they somehow make it into the demon realm at the expense of HBN? the whole last fight scene is a mess to try to imagine in my head...pls enlighten me so that i minimise restless nights thinking about erha's convulted ass plot and how my baby XZM is so wronged and done dirty by the author! heartless!!

also also last one: i get irrationally VEXXED everytime i see the words "...'s adam apple bobbed" or "...'s adam apple trembled/moved/blah blah" like istg it appears EVERYTIME they even lightly brush past each other especially the middle 100 chapters wheres these 2 are like sapphically pining and yearning for each other but REFUSE to talk it out bEcAuSe ReSpEct anD lOvE ShIzuN...COUPLES THERAPY!!! AND STOP TALKING ABOUT THEIR ADAMS APPLE AND HOW IT BOBS EVERY CHAPTER ARGHHHHHHHHH

5) Do you like one shots or multi-chapters?

I heavily prefer multi chapters in both writing and reading. Writing cuz the pacing just suits me better and it feels like it gives me a lot more room to steadily explore what I want too explore. This goes for double cuz i usually tend to deal with psychological themes and it takes good time to properly unravel things like that. I also prefer reading multi chapters because I need that segmentation of story in my head. Like, i've been procrastinating reading some very fandom popular works because they have huge wordcounts all condensed into one chapter and that just looks exhausting to me, I think my upper reading limit is like 10k per chapter n even thats really pushing it. Also I comment on all the stories i read as a rule and that also helps me compartmentalize the information i received by bringing it up in the comment so when i dont get that chance i just end up forgetting like 70% of the fic by the time i get to the comment box. This is why if i'm gonna read a really long one shot i just tend to write comment notes on my phone or in word so i can properly bring up everything i want to mention.

9) Do you visualize scenes in your head before you write them? (Can you picture the setting, character body language etc)

Yeah! I usually do this while walking around and listening to music, I tend to imagine a lot of action scenes and like key emotional moments like this. But also if I'm not listening to music I'm in brain type writer mode and just sorta tell myself the scene as i walk and then takes notes on my phone for things i particularly like. So i imagine them both as actual images and as words.

16) Do you have a method for getting characters to sound/feel in character?

:) I do not and this is one of my biggest worries hgvgh i feel like every character i write just sounds more or less like me jbjh but Ker said I'm fine and here and there people praise my characterization so i figure its probably passable uwu.

21) Writers choice - pick any of these questions that you want to answer.

Lets seeeee I'm gonna pick 7) How do you edit your fics? What do you look for in your edits? cuz ive been doing the gang au prequel edit so its on my mind

So editing for me varies a lot, like some fics ill just do a quick edit and throw them out, some ill go full sicko mode (gang au) but here is the most complex it can get (again, gang au)

So I finish writing

Stage 1. First Lucy edit additional info edition - in this edit i expand scenes i think ended up too rushed and add in new scenes in places where it seems they could be of use, obviously this is optional if i think what i write is fine as it is

Stage 2. First Lucy edit actual editing edition - here I do the actual editing aka i go through the document and correct mistakes or awkward phrasing or what grammar i can pick out (not the best at that part). I pay attention to how things sound and flow and also to common mistakes Ker pointed out i make. One of mine is that i tend to get stuck on one word and repeat it thorough the chapter a lot so i try to pay attention to that (tho in the last thing ker edited they said i didnt repeat a word but i did repeat a structure so....progress?)

Stage 3. Ker edit! - I hand the doc over to Ker. Their job is primarily grammar and wording since those are my weak points but i also usually give them free hands to note on anything that seems off and ask for extra stuff depending on what im doing. Ex. Since Gang au prequel is a one shot that's being split into chapters i asked them to keep an eye on pacing and the way i segmented the fic aka if they think a chapter should end early or go on longer and be connected with another chapter and so on. I will use this opportunity to once again say that Ker is the best beta and i love them so much and they do such amazing work and they honestly helped me improve and learn a whole lot i love you Ker <3<3<3<3

Stage 4. Post Ker edit - Here is where i go through the document and fix up all the stuff Ker marked. I usually do grammar first and then go down the document fixing the 'reword this' or 'expand on this' type corrections

Stage 5. Final reread - this either happens immediately after stage 4 or some time after depending on how i'm posting but basically this is just me reading through the story again with a bit of a fresher perspective, making sure all the edits work well together and catching any overlooked mistakes

Then the story is ready to post!

chapter 2

being a vampire has its perks, and scent is one of them. I can smell everything. I can smell a healthy person from the sick, a man from a woman. I can smell who eats what and where. overtime I even learned the smell of the different blood types. and it's natural now. sometimes the smell of a person can tell you everything you need to know.

I pull up my phone and look through the ring camera. It's a small girl. She must be lost.

"how can I help you?" I ask through the speaker. she jumps when she hears my voice. it is 11pm on a friday night.

"is darren here?" im darren. weird.

"who's asking?"

"im penny, im from south carolina. Gia sent me."

Gia?

"I think you have the wrong place."

"no, please. you have to help me. they'll kill me."

I don't have time to process what's going on but I make my way down the stairs and through the kitchen to the door.

I take a look at her before I open the door. she looks dirty. her wild puffy hair is matted to her forehead from sweat. her caramel skin is smudged with dirt and the smell that is coming off of her tells me that it's been a while since she's showered. but that's it, I can't smell her blood.

I crack the door and the little girl attempts to force her way in. I let her, knowing I could easily stop her. and unexpectedly she wraps her arms around me and starts to sob.

I don't know what to do.

I stand there with my arms up, not wanting to embrace her as she sobs. and she sobs.. and sobs.. for what felt like an hour.

"im so glad that I made it, I thought I would never find you." she says as she looks up at me with big wide brown eyes. she can't be older than 12.

"who sent you?" I ask. gently I unravel her arms from around me and I lead her into the living room. "sit here." I motion to the black couch. she is shivering so hard that I can hear her teeth raddle. I find the throw blanket and I offer it to her. she takes it and wraps it tightly around her, looking left and right.

"gia."

"I don't know any gias"

"you will."

"where are your parents?"

she shakes her head, "dead, all dead. they came looking." she shakes her head back and forth. "they came to kill me and they killed everyone. and- and I escaped. and they are coming for me. and gia sent me here and she said you would protect me."

"listen kid, I can't protect you. I don't know you. let me take you to the police station, I think -" before I could get it out she starts to cry hysterically.

"please, no. please, they'll find me." she gets up and clings to my shirt. "please help me."

"relax, calm down." If I wasn't so strong she would be knocking me over. "please stop crying, shhhh" the last thing I need is Cindy waking up. "ok. ok."

I sit on the sofa and pull her down with me. As I touch her hand and whisper lightly, "relax". I wait for my touch to affect her. It doesn't. "relax" I whisper again. nothing.

"what are you." I think to myself.

"I don't know." she says out loud between cries. "im.. different."

she looks up in my eyes and it feels like they're burning through me.

"are you.. different." she asks softly.

hesitantly, I nod my head.

"gia said you were."

"who is gia?"

she smiles softly. "you'll meet her soon."

"that doesn't answer my question."

"I can't ruin it. she has to be the one to tell you."

"creepy." I think to myself.

"very." she does it again. I stand up abruptly. everything in me doesn't trust this. i've been very good at keeping a low radar. i've lived here for 10 years, unnoticed. the last thing I want or need is to start over again.

"im very tired. can I rest?" she asks softly. "the girl upstairs? is that your girlfriend?"

"how do you know someone's here." I ask.

"I know allot. im very tired darren." her voice sounds like that of an old woman coming out of a 12 year olds mouth.

"13."

"what?"

"im 13 and a ha -" and before she can finish her sentence she's slumped on the couch. sleeping.

Mad and thinking about Disgaea 5 rewrites!!

So I found the ending of Disgaea five super dissapointing after a story that was pretty exciting to follow, which means I will be spoiling that and putting Killia back into the mourning processs

Going further

So not to kill Lieze again and cause Disgaea 5-2, but the very last moments of Disgaea 5 take away so much of the momentum for me! That man talks about Lieze in his head every damn chapter and not once did I think "you know what, on a corpse technicality, I think that she is still going to be alive."

Maybe im missing the appeal of this happy ending, but I feel like it completely undercuts his motivation all throughout the story. Moving towards the massive challenge of fighting Void Dark is fun on its own. Unravelling Killia's history with him, the mashoguns and Zeroken is VERY exciting and its a great motivating force through the whole story. But going back in time is very much not at all what Disgaea 5 is building to here and it feels cheap to give Killia a character arc that ends with

A. A personal return to normal

B. A resolution that doesn't affect his new nakama buddies

C. His lover back due to Void Darks evil planet eating machine?

I think you can kind of just swap some pieces around, put Lieze back in the dirt and use the other characters more to make a much better ending and I really enjoy rewriting Disgaea so here we go.

Most of the story moves as normal. The key difference is that rather than being annoyed and confused by her, Killia actually starts to open up to Seraphina more and more as the story goes on. He needs someone to talk to about his traumatic past, and while she is far from the most equipped, she is more than eager to try and hear him out. Ultimately it takes facing Goldion, Void and Zeroken for him to really make progress and face down Killidia inside himself. However, now Seraphina and Killia have a real dynamic beneath their goofing around and he feels comfortable talking to her more openly than anyone else. (I love his bonds with the other four rebel army characters, but in none of them is he exactly comfortable spilling his whole heart!)

I've used this change before, but in Seraphina's chapter, her dad actually ditches the betrayal idea and continues the Killidia plot by demanding she change her arranged marriage to be with Killia/Killidia. Having his daughter married to the strongest overlord would be a huge boon to the rebelling makai's investment in him, and upon learning they know each other, it feels like exactly what Dadaphina would do. Its an interesting chapter to me because it gives closure to Seraphina's feelings for Killia: now she seriously has to face them down, and ask whether taking this seemingly golden opportunity would actually make either of them happy. Its a great way for her to realize how romance actually works and you could even have funny moments where she asks the rest of the rebel army if they think he likes her for them to be like "... are you serious right now?"

Obviously this ends with her shelving her one sided thirst act rather than developing actual feelings, and the two move on to appreciate how warm their actual friendship has become over the course of the long journey. I think this change makes it much easier to bear the sad ending when they beat Void, Lieze is half alive and through some plot device (?? I dont know stories, maybe they need to sacrifice a few more netherworlds to bring her back to life for good) Killia realizes that this isn't the Lieze that he loved, and that his past isn't coming back. Having one more good friend in the army and a resolution that revolves around the nakamatachi and their warm friendship serving as Killia's future feels like a MUCH better way for him to let the past die.

But what do I know? I still havent played the postgame where Void is alive and an ally. LOLL DISGAEA WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS

Summer with Strangers, Chapter 2 (group fic) - Grey Darling

The main lodge was a fairly plain place - wooden walls adorned with black and white photos of the camp in its early days, faded blue carpet that had seen much better days, a hodgepodge of different coloured chairs organised in a circle. Nine chairs, to be precise - one for all the girls, and one for who Manila assumed to be for their camp counsellor, who was currently sitting at the head of the circle.

She was a large woman, tall, imposing, but there was something about her that just lit a fire of warm comfort in Manila’s belly. Smiling at the girls the moment they walked in, she rose to her incredible height and stepped forward a little to greet them, and when she spoke her voice was deep and booming yet friendly and inviting at the same time.

“Morning, girls, or should I say afternoon?” Once Delta corrected her on the time, she continued. “Afternoon, then. My name’s Latrice, I’ll be your counselor for these next few weeks, and I’m in charge of running regular group therapy sessions for you girls.”

There were a few groans in response - notably from the girl with the glasses - but for the most part, the group stayed silent. Manila kept quiet for a reason - if she was going to be spilling all her secrets to this woman, then she wanted to be on her good side. After a few more formalities, Latrice invited the girls to sit down in the circle, and Manila did so with the efficiency of a soldier - she dreaded what might happen if she disobeyed, and she couldn’t get in trouble, not now. As Delta left them to it, Sonique bounced over to take a seat next to her, smiling and giving a little wave once she’d sat down. Snakebite girl settled on her other side, although she could tell it was a random decision, not born from any sort of affection for Manila.

Once everyone was seated, Latrice spoke up once more. “We won’t be getting into group therapy just yet - it’s only the first day, and there’s nothing wrong with easing into things. Today, we’ll just go round the circle and you can introduce yourself, tell us why you’re here if you feel comfortable with sharing that yet, and something interesting about yourself, ok? Would you like to start?”

Latrice’s gaze fell on the redhead, who looked like she’d rather be in hell than sitting in the sharing circle. Sighing, she leaned forward, running a hand through her shaggy hair.

“Name’s Morgan, an’ aam reit pished aff coz Ah shooldnae be here in th’ first place.”

“Do you want to tell us why?” Latrice asked, pulling out a little black notebook and scribbling down a few notes. Manila frowned - she didn’t like that.

“Coz aam nae a criminal. Ah didne dae anythin’ wrong.”

“And what makes you so special then?” the girl with the sunglasses asked, her high pitched monotone laced with acidity.

Morgan glared at her. “Ah was standin’ up fur one ay mah friends, actually. Some nazi motherfucker was givin’ ‘er trooble, sae Ah stepped in tae shut ‘im th’ fuck up.”

Beside Manila, Sonique gasped. “Woah… You’re like, an American hero or somethin’.”

“Aam a what…?” Morgan looked genuinely flabbergasted at that - everyone was, rather. She couldn’t be more Scottish if she tried, and the accent was a dead give away. Sonique didn’t seem to realise her mistake, she just stared at Morgan in awe, her doe eyes filled with admiration. It was kind of cute, really.

“If that’s everything you want to say, Morgan?” When Morgan nodded and leaned back in her chair, Latrice turned her attention to the girl with the sunglasses. “Go ahead.”

There was no visible change in her expression even when everybody turned to look at her, her emotions hidden from view thanks to the shades that seemed just about glued to her head. “Hi, I’m Willam, and I’m an alcoholic.”

“Hi Willam,” snakebite girl said in a dull sing-song, like a child greeting their teacher first thing in the morning, which made the girl in question crack a smile.

“You’ve done this before, haven’t ya?”

Snakebite girl just grinned, winking at Willam - so she wasn’t made of ice after all. Carrying on around the circle, the Instagram beauty introduced herself as Carmen (“So what if I didn’t have a license? I still knew how to drive the stupid thing.”), and beside her was Sharon, the pale one (“It’s not like I burned down her actual house, just her dog’s house.”). Snakebite girl was finally introduced as Raven, a suitable name for such a dark lady, and she refused to reveal what she’d done, which only piqued everyone’s curiosity.

And then it was Manila’s turn.

“Uh, hi, I’m Manila. I stole stuff and, uh… yeah, I stole stuff.”

“Why’d you do it?” Willam piped up, clearly a great lover of invading people’s privacy. She’d been butting into people’s introductions for the whole session, and every time she did Latrice scribbled something in her notebook, Raven’s lips thinned, and the frustration in Morgan’s eyes burned brighter. Manila hadn’t minded it at first, but now it was directed at her… she didn’t like that.

“Is it ok if I don’t say?” Manila asked, her voice quiet as her chest constricted with minor panic, the question aimed more at Latrice than Willam. When the older woman nodded, Manila breathed out a tiny sigh of relief, but it was clear Willam wasn’t satisfied, even behind her shades.

Sonique went next, happily sharing her story of fraud and answering any questions that came her way. Her willingness to share was rather charming, and by the time she’d finished speaking just about everyone had warmed to her. Manila certainly had, and from the way her pale green eyes softened as Sonique kept on speaking, Morgan had as well.

Latrice barely wrote anything in her little notebook for Sonique, which was interesting. She’d been scribbling away like the devil for everyone else.

And then came the object of Manila’s affections, the girl with the tattoos and the long legs and the rich, deep voice that she could just listen to forever. When all eyes were on her, she cracked into that cute little smile of hers. “Hey, I’m Raja, I got busted for drugs, and my favourite colour is brown.”

She had a sense of humour. Of course she did - could she be any more perfect?

“Well, it’s nice to meet you, Raja,” Latrice said with a smile. “Anything else you’d like to say?”

Raja shrugged. “Nothing important, but it’s not like I have to spill my guts now, right? We’ve got three whole weeks to do that, there’s no rush.”

“Exactly,” Latrice replied with a firm nod before turning to address the rest of her audience, an earnest look in her dark eyes. “And Raja makes a good point here - at no point should you feel pressured to share what you aren’t comfortable with. I’m hoping that we’ll be able to be a bit more open with each other as time goes on, but above all, this is a safe space. And I’m more than happy to talk in private if there’s something you want to get off your chest but don’t want anybody else to know, alright?”

Manila knew that was supposed to comfort her, and it did, to some degree. But looking at the girls around her - judgemental Willam, aggressive Morgan, gossipy Carmen, perfect in every single way Raja - she knew that opening up would be the hardest thing about this camp. These girls were tough, proper criminals, not like Manila who’d only stolen to provide for her family. They were the sort of girls who could take one thread of weakness and tug at it until the whole facade of strength unravelled until the puny, scared little thing in the centre was revealed. Manila had that weakness in spades - in fact, her armour of strength was so thin that even the bluntest blade could pierce it.

So would she open up about her struggles in therapy, surrounded by girls who would make her life a living hell for showing one scrap of weakness?

Not in a million years.

With introductions over and done with, Delta made her return to take the girls on a tour of the campground. It was a nice enough walk - the rain had finally let up, giving way to mud and slippery stone paths, and Manila was finally able to get a good sense of what the camp was like.

The cabins, lodge, and bathrooms (which, much to the girl’s dismay, they’d have the task of cleaning) were all part of one building, a traditional-looking wooden thing with a low roof and a deck connecting all the different rooms. The driveway where the van was parked sat to the right, while the left was all dense forest and shrubbery. There was a lot of that around, trees and bushes and bright, blooming flowers, surrounding the camp and closing it off from the rest of the world. There was a field of plain grass, however, a good few acres of it stretching out in front of the main building. Down a small hill, a large wooden obstacle course sat in the centre of the field, and a few branching paths led off through the forest to what Manila could only assume were hiking trails.

But what caught Manila’s eye the most was the little hut at the edge of the forest, the stone path Delta was leading them down heading straight to it. The moment Delta told them it was an art room, she just about squealed with joy - she couldn’t remember the last time she’d felt so happy about something so simple.

Art was Manila’s world - painting, sketching, sculpting, sewing, all of it. She’d adored art for as long as she could remember, from scribbling with fat wax crayons in kindergarten to painting a small collection for her high school’s art expo. It was her release, her getaway, and even after her parents lost their fortune, she could always count on a simple pencil and paper to make her troubles disappear for a while. Not being able to draw or paint on this camp had been one of her worst fears, so to know there was a whole section of the camp dedicated to it was a massive relief. She’d definitely be spending a lot of time in there, that was for sure.

Manila had to put a great deal of effort into suppressing her smile when Delta opened the door to the little art hut, giving the girls ten minutes to look around and get a feel for the place. Ten minutes was hardly enough time at all, but Manila planned on making the most of it - she was the first one through the door, and she planned on being the last one out.

The other girls seemed a touch less enthusiastic. Carmen and Willam didn’t even go inside, Sharon only used it as an opportunity to grab a ballpoint pen and start doodling on her arm, and Raven and Morgan were much more interested in the view outside than the room itself. Sonique, ever the good sport, wandered around with a twinkle of curiosity in her eyes, looking at the brushes and palette knives and paints and all sorts that lined the walls. As for Raja, well, Manila was too busy inspecting the quality of paints to notice the object of her affections sauntering up behind her before it was too late.

“Hey, Winona.”

“Raja!” Manila squawked, whirling around to face her and almost dropping the bottle of hot pink paint she was holding, with quite possibly the dumbest smile in the world pasted on her face. “How’s it hanging?”

Really, Manila? ‘How’s it hanging?’ Get a grip…

“It’s hanging pretty good,” Raja replied with a grin. “Thank god for this place though, am I right?”

“You- you like art too? I like art. I think it’s really cool,” Manila babbled, swallowing heavily once she’d finished. In all her life, she’d never met someone who could reduce her into such a tongue-tied buffoon like Raja did.

Raja nodded. “I doodle here and there. I designed this tattoo, see?”

She held out one of her long, slender arms, pointing at the large floral design inked into her skin- a collection of tiny white flowers, their petals drifting and falling and twisting down her arm until they reached her wrist, settling in a pile just above her hand. Manila’s lips formed an ‘o’ as she let out a little gasp, marvelling at the simple yet gorgeous design.

“That’s so pretty…” she murmured, and Raja beamed with pride.

“Thanks! They’re Arabian Jasmines, national flower of Indonesia.” She looked at Manila, adding with a grin: “And I think it’s the national flower of the Philippines, too.”

“Really?” Manila asked, a tiny smile lighting up her face. “I didn’t know that… Wow, you know more about my own country than I do, isn’t that weird?”

Raja chuckled, pulling her arm back - although Manila still couldn’t keep her eyes off the tattoo. “Believe me, that’s like, the only thing I know about the Philippines.”

“Right…”

Just as Raja opened her lips to speak again, Delta called out that their ten minutes was up and it was time to head back to the lodge to meet the other staff members. Raja rolled her eyes, flashing that gorgeous grin of hers. “Is she gonna do that every time we have a conversation?”

Manila could only laugh, which came off as much more hysterical than she intended. Because of course it did.

That evening, when the girls were allowed to roam free before bed, Manila found herself back in the art room. Fortunately for her, the building was still unlocked, and although the lights were off when she arrived, it didn’t take much effort to turn them on again. The room seemed so much more comforting when awash with the soft, yellowish light, making the paint-splattered glass jars shine and the metal bands around the paintbrushes glimmer.

It was oddly comforting, being alone. Away from the awkward embarrassment of being with Raja or the fear of judgement that the likes of Carmen and Willam and Raven ignited. No one had followed her, and she was sure no one would - finally, some time to herself. She’d been surrounded by those girls all day, and probably wouldn’t be able to escape them for three weeks straight. So to wander alone in a room surrounded by the tools to create what she loved, even if for just an hour, was a rare and precious thing that she knew she had to savour.

But to be on one’s own was to get lost in one’s thoughts, and that was the last thing Manila needed. She wandered around the art room for a while, not daring to actually get out some paints and paper and start painting without permission, and without anything to do, her mind started to wander. She thought about a lot of things - Raja, the paintings she’d make, how her first night at camp would be, how things were going at home, if her sisters had eaten dinner that night, if they were alright without her, if they missed her.

Stop thinking about them, Manila!

And yet she couldn’t. They’d popped up in her head throughout the day, their big, innocent eyes staring at her as they shone with tears. All it took was a conversation or a shift in location to block them out, distract her with the guilt that came with thinking of them. Because, in the grand scheme of things, she’d essentially abandoned them. They were so much younger than her, and Manila hadn’t taught them how to fend for themselves because she didn’t want them to - she didn’t want them to give up their youthful freedom as she had.

It was a sacrifice she’d been happy to make. Her sisters deserved to have a full childhood without worrying about where their next meal would come from - that was Manila’s job, and a burden she willingly undertook. But now, with Manila miles away at some stupid summer camp for three weeks, their only choices were either to learn how to look after themselves or place their care in the hands of their parents - and, in their current state, Manila wouldn’t trust those two to look after a bag of flour.

Squeezing her eyes shut, Manila did everything she could to block out the spiral of negative thoughts. But no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn’t shake the guilt of abandoning them when they needed her most. No, she hadn’t abandoned them. It wasn’t like she wanted to be at Camp Silver Lining… but they didn’t know that. What if they thought she’d left them on purpose? What if they thought she wasn’t coming back? What if by the time she got back, they’d been taken away by social services? What if she wasn’t allowed to see them again because she’d neglected them? What if they grew to hate her for the same reason?

What if she’d lost them forever?

Manila clutched at her chest, too caught up in her downward spiral to notice how painful it was to breathe before it was too late. Sharp, stinging pain tore through her chest every time she took a breath, and they were so shallow and quick that the world started to spin and distort around her. Fat, hot tears rolled down her cheeks, leaving tracks in their wake, but there was nothing she could do to stop them. A wave of lightheadedness washed over her, the effort of trying to calm down and breathe normally and stop crying more than her panic-ridden body could handle.

Unable to support her any longer, Manila’s legs gave out, sending her tumbling to the floor. With her right hand still gripping at the fabric of her t-shirt, she stuck out her left arm to try and catch herself, but there was little use. There was a painful crack as, just like her shaky legs, her wrist gave out underneath her, and Manila let out a strangled yelp of pain as she hit the ground. It stung like the devil, and the pain only made her overwhelming panic even worse. It all culminated in this horrible nausea, twisting in her stomach and making her feel like death warmed over.

It took some time for her hyperventilating to settle enough to clear her head, but she was too disoriented to know how long it took. But the world was still twirling around her, only contributing to her nausea, and it took every last reserve of Manila’s strength to crawl over to a nearby table, clinging to it for dear life as if it was the only thing stopping her from losing her mind entirely.

Sobbing like mad and frightened out of her life, Manila just wanted to go home.

I think it was a great ep and did pretty well with the chapters it adapted. The dialogue was there and so were the scenes, the ending hyped what is coming so much so I'm already in love!

Lack of creavity when it come to the OP and ED visuals, but the ep overall was good.

The soundtrack slaps, voice acting is on point, and the animation proves to be very promising. Overall, it's a great episode to start off the second cour!

The scene with the Beast Titan appearing with his army of titans took 30% of the vote, with Levi attacking Reiner as a close second with 22% of the vote. 10% overall liked the entire episode, and 7% favorited the cliffhanger staredown. We can all agree the battle to come has us all hyped!

Did they really had to skip Levi's frustrated expression after he failed to kill Reiner? It was my favorite moment…

Levi attacking Reiner and everything after that has become one of my favorite scenes in the series. Damn!

Overall respondents are pleased with the animation in the first episode of the RtS arc, with 54% stating that it’s the best animation they’ve seen from the series yet. 42% feel it could be better, but is also not the worst. A small percentage don’t find the animation all that impressive.

I can’t believe how clean all of the animation is looking. SUPER impressed with the difference in art-style compared to season 1 as well.

i was disappointed in knowing it was a 10 episode arc, but seeing the quality and taking into account that this is an action-heavy arc, i'm bouncing off of the walls to see what wit has underneath their sleeve. hopefully they don't ruin the best arc

one advantage of the short season is that they cant draw out the serum bowl for too long. God, that was a painful wait when the manga was dropping those chapters.

Really well done, the pacing in particular was great. After seeing it I was convinced 10 episodes was perfect for this arc. A 6-4 split is perfect.

it only becomes obvious b/c manga readers keep pointing stuff out. Yes, the intros have always hinted at things but it goes so fast that I don’t think every person will know exactly what something means if they’re anime only.

I don't get why people are making a big deal over the "spoilers" in the opening when they're not even anime-onlies themselves in the first place.

Man, it only seems spoilery for those of us who know what's coming. Anime onlies don't understand the context of the images, so they can't recognise them as spoilers unless it's directly identified as such! We gotta stop judging this stuff from the perspective of someone who already knows what's coming.

It was an introduction episode, so imo, it's just there to put the basis for the rest of the season. There was a good balance between the "emotionally charged" scenes and the more quiet ones, all this accompanied with an increasing tension in the background.

I wish theyd reanimated the scene of armin talking to eren about the opening instead of just reusing the animation from season 1.

Watching this episode is bringing back all the suspense and awe I felt when I read this part in the manga. What a treat to be able to relive it!

They did a great job at keeping the tension and the "well shit everything's about to go wrong" from chapters 73 and 74, and managed to make the explosion at the end worth it, despite the fact I still think Reiner's continued survival throughout the arc is stupid and wish the anime had changed it so it'd be more believable, but here we are.

Ahhh, thank you guys so much for asking!! I just compiled them all into one post so I don’t clog up your dash with several posts. Here we go! I’m going to tag this as discourse and put a cut because my answers to the letters might not please everyone, aha. It’s long, too. Major spoilers for NDRV3.

S: Any fandom tropes you can’t resist?

Honestly, I’m not super sure at this point. Surprise, surprise, I only just recently finished watching the rest of NDRV3 and started writing for it. And I haven’t thought about tropes that much, though I’m sure I’ve written plenty of them into my writing at some point, even if not posted on here. 

If we’re going to go Danganronpa-centric, as this is my side blog for Danganronpa writing, I’d say that I fall in love with characters that are contradictory and with seemingly bipolar or gray morals despite probably having morals as straight as an arrow myself, i.e. Nagito or Kokichi. The characters playing “straight man” and relating to the reader’s perspective are also my favorite; in a wacky situation, they offer reason and normal reactions, which I would peg Hajime as (maybe Kazuichi, too, although he’s more of a crybaby). In fanfiction, I just love hurt & comfort fics, especially involving–you guessed it–Kokichi. I am particularly partial to the Oumota chapter 5 and chapter 5 trial rewrites, which, lucky for me, both of which are quite often rewritten by spectacular writers.

If we’re going in general, I always end up reading manga with an independent, strong and decisive character that crosses worlds and/or bodies by accident or death and becomes incredibly powerful/influential in the world and dominates over other characters with skills ranging from cooking to fighting. I guess I read a lot of manhua with martial arts or other manga with game aspects to it.Writing-wise, I love reading slow burn fics, even if I haven’t read one in quite some time. 

T: Any fandom tropes you can’t stand?

I have a feeling this is going to go into highly controversial areas, so if you ultra ship Kaito x Maki, please turn away now...

I just hate that “man saves woman” from herself or traumatic past trope. Don’t get me wrong, I love hurt/comfort like I mentioned, but to specify, what I mean is when a strong and independent woman needs saving by a man. I realize Maki has a lot of issues from her past as an assassin and that Kaito is a viable, good option for helping her out and facing those issues, but the fact of him being a man and the way he just swoops in and fixes things forcefully by pulling her along for training just irks me. And before you ask, yes, if Kaede did it instead as a woman I would have less of a problem with it, even if I don’t like that somehow after a couple days of training together Maki somehow is better able to get along with others and most notably Shuichi despite having spent the previous entire time cooped up in her Ultimate room alone, is willing to use her experience as an assassin to help out with the investigation when she just walked out in the past, etc. Problems from a past like that would never be so easily faced in reality; people and their minds are much more stubborn than we’d like to think, too. 

In general, I am also highly averse to the Women in Refrigerators trope. To some extent, I feel that Kaede fits this trope, as a.) she is an important, pivotal, incredibly fleshed out female character and even the initial protagonist of ndrv3, b.) she dies arbitrarily for a murder she did not commit, c.) a big part of her death is written into Shuichi’s character development for making him grow as the protagonist (he sheds the cap, faces the truth, and the memory of Kaede’s last wishes serves as his support to reveal the truth several times in trial), and of course, d.) her death in the execution is grotesque as befitting of a Danganronpa execution. Kaede deserved so. much. more.

There are probably more out there, but I won’t mention them for the sake of length & time. 

U: Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.

Okay! So don’t hate me for this, but I haven’t been really keeping up a bunch with fanfiction writers or specific ones that much. It just hasn’t ever been a habit of mine in the past to follow one writer–ironic, I know. There’s one that immediately comes to mind, but she’s not part of the Danganronpa fandom, so unless someone asks, I’ll leave her out of it. However, there are a couple of writers that I recently discovered through the Oumota weekend event and which I follow on my main blog, and I thoroughly enjoy reading their work. Their work also contains mentions of NDRV3 spoilers!

1. @kirastrations

I recently reblogged her work on this blog because I have so much love for the Oumota fic she wrote (which deserves more love!). It’s called One by One, One After Another, and I simply adore the way she writes Kaito’s character and experiences with the other characters throughout the game and the overarching feeling that comes across as a result of the situation and what ensues. The diction choices she makes is absolute art; I see the imagery so clearly in my head, and not a single word of hers is wasted. It’s concise while being aptly and most beautifully descriptive. Even though I’m not a huge fan of Kaito, the way she writes him and his actions make me love him. I would describe the work as a futile yet desperate and exquisite struggling, an embodiment of angst that is so beautifully painful that it appears to be an illusion. I haven’t had a chance to check out other works from her just yet, but that’s on my to-do list!

2. @golden-redhead

I love, love, love their work too. They recently posted Lavender, a Kirumi x Kaede (Tojomatsu? Kaerumi? Kirumatsu?) work for femslash Feb, and it is a post-reality Virtual AU short fic. The way they write the interaction between Kirumi and Kaede offers such a delicate, carefully constructed image and story while creating some tension between the two. They also format the story with Kirumi’s thoughts in a simple and straightforward way that is just so delicious to read. Aspects of Kirumi explored are small things that unravel into a bigger statement about her character and the nature of the killing game and the impact it has left on her. It reminds me of the way a player might gently stack up a house of cards–attentively, with a sharp eye and feel. 

3. @starlightwritesalie

They wrote these two Oumota fics for the weekend that I fell in love with, especially the one for Day 1: Heroes/Villains. Sometimes when living in the world of Danganronpa, you forget that these tragic situations and the killing game are experienced, in essence, by children. You can argue that they’re older than high schoolers for the first two games, but mentally they are still high schoolers, and let’s face it–a couple years above the legal age of being an adult in America, 18, can hardly be counted as an adult, either. They reminded me of that sickening fact so poetically yet bluntly, and the story they write only serves as a further reminder of that fact. They write statements about the situation and how the pair act in the situation that are so agonizing yet irrefutable–as is the situation that they’re both trapped in. The ending is so unbearably cruel, packed with pain, but the way they create it is so decisively soft and snatches away my breath with the truth at the heart of the game, the situation. 

So there you have it! Sorry that my answers are so long... I have too much to say, and especially about the people whom I adore. Since it said to pick 3, I didn’t get to include these two, but I also love aroseandapen and mystic-mints dearly. If you ask, I’ll write a whole paragraph on why I love them, too, although I suspect by this time you all are getting rather tired of all my talking, haha. I also didn’t include imagines blogs, but if you’re curious, feel free to ask about that since I am still kind of a imagines blog! I guess at this point I’m kind of a fusion of an imagines blog and normal fanfiction writing blog.

SHE'S NO YOU - Ch.6

A/N: This chapter is when the truth starts to unravel... do you think you have figured out what happened? Have a good read! P.s Loooooong chapter :) -- CHAPTER SIX: DON'T LISTEN TO THEM -- RAE POV: "How do you know Olivia?" I had just put the kids to bed and now I was sitting next to a tense Gregory awaiting his answer. "Well about 2 years ago I sold her sister a house. She was there of course, but I didn't know she was Finn's Girlfriend". 'It was interesting to know that he could still remember his clients sisters from 2 years ago, especially on a first name basis' I snickered to myself. It was a simplistic reply that was used as a deflection. It was obvious he was uncomfortable talking about her, and I was curious to know why. But for right now I was exhausted beyond belief. "Ohkay" I smiled. It wasn't worth a fight, it was bad enough that I was dealing with Finn, I didn't need to add Greg to the mix. "You seem close to your ex-husband's family" You could hear the bitterness in his voice, and internally I chucked. He didn't really have a reason to be mad at me over that, when he's the one lying right now. "Greg". "It was just a simple observation Rae. The man seemed very fond of you, if I must say". "We were very close when I was married. I cut all ties with them when I filed for divorce. It was the first time seeing Archie- Finn's brother in years" I sighed. "Mhm" he nodded. His hand lightly pressed against my naked thigh. "Hon, can I stay the night?" I was not prepared to hear that on a Wednesday night. He never stayed over when we both had work in the morning. "What about work your work tomorrow" I said stating the obvious. Gregory lived more towards the CBD, where traffic was lethal at anytime of the day or night. It was easier for him to get to work in the morning because he only lived a block away. It would take him a good two hours extra to drive home and get ready, then head to work for his 8am start. "I have a later start tomorrow. So I can just leave when you drop the kids off for school" he smiled; grazing his fingers more into my inner thigh. For some reason the intimate touch felt foreign. His hands were softer then I was use to, not as callous and rough. This was not good. "Ugh- sure" I encouraged myself to smile. We got off the couch and headed towards the bedroom hand in hand. Just as we opened the door to my bedroom and saw the state it was in, I froze. Clothes littered the floor in an unattractive manner. The bed, the same bed where I let Finn take me the night before had disheveled sheets, after not sleeping a wink last night. "You go have a shower and freshen up and I'll give this pig-sty a little clean. You don't really want to be smelling three day old Rae do you?" I tried to joke, I was embarrassed he had to witness this. "Don't worry about it to much hon" he laughed, then kissed my forehead. I didn't watch him walk into my ensuite. I was to busy glaring at my bed. There was no way I was washing those contaminated sheets, no they to be burnt. -- Anxiously, I hurried to get the last details added to the final sketch before the meeting in two hours. Chloe had organised for the board at 'Taylor industries' to come in and confirm the sketchs before signing of on the build. The new multi-million dollar mall has been a top priority for my team and I, for the past year and a half. I was glad that we were finally having the last meeting before I could watch my work come to life. When it was lunch time; or so my stomach reminded me. I checked mobile messages before leaving the office. I had turned it to silent, not wanting to be disrupted. Which I regretted once I saw the miss call from my children's school. Dialing the number on my office phone I waited for an answer. "Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School, Mary speaking, how may I help?" "Hi my name is Rachel Nelson-Earl, I'm the mother of Ruby and Joshua Nelson. I have a missed call, and I was wondering why". "Hi Ms. Nelson. Yes I have a message here for you referring to your son Joshua. It seems that he has had a altercation with another student. He has been stepped down for the rest of the day. We are in need for you to collect him as soon as possible please". 'Shit' I thought. Joshua had never been a kid to ever get into any sort of altercation, physical or not. This was completely out of character for him. Checking the time I noticed I had 30 minutes to til the meeting started, a meeting that could potentially sink my career if I didn't attend it. "I'll have to ring his father to collect him. But someone will be there as soon as possible" I replied. It was the only other solution I could think of. I just hoped Finn wasn't in a meeting. "Certainly. I will let his teacher know". "Thank you". As soon as I hung up the phone to the school, I dialed Finn's office number. I was put through to two different receptionist before i was finally directed through to Finn's office. "Finn Nelson's office, Olivia speaking" the nasily voice spoke. "Can you please put me through to Finn" I said in a rush and slightly paniced. I was not in the mood to talk to this bitch, time was against my side and I wasn't going to let her waste it. "And who's speaking?" Her cheerful demeanor forgotten. No wonder why Finn couldnt get any other pussy, she was the ultimate cock block. Clearing my throat, I continued speaking. "Its Rae, now can you put me through to f-". "Rae? Why would you possibly need to talk to Finn?" Olivia barked- like the true dog she was. "Olivia I don't have time for this! I need to talk to Finn about Joshua!" "I'm sure this is something that can be discussed outside of office hours-" "But y-" "- unlike some Ms. Earl, Finn is a busy Man and I can't possibly interrupt him!" Finn rattled off questions. "He's fine, but he has been in a fight with another student. He's been stood down for the rest of the day.. Finn I need you to pick him up, please. I have a meeting in 15 minutes and my career depends on it. I know your busy bu-". "Of course I'll pick him up Rae. You don't need to explain yourself, he's my son too. I need to take responsibility for him too. But really, fighting?" I could hear the disbelief in his husky voice. "I know Finn. I don't know what's going on with him? He's never gotten into a fight before" My voice broke, but I managed to pull myself together. This was not the time to do this, especially whilst on the phone to my ex-husband. "Rae it will be Ohkay, I'll pick him up and take the rest of the day off. I'll get Archie to pick Ruby up for me when she finishes". "Ohkay" I breathe. "Thank you". "I'll talk to you tonight". For the second time today, I was hung up on. My phone was still pressed snuggly pressed against my ear when Chloe pranced in, smile beaming, and excitement lighting her eyes. "Are you ready?" She came around the desk to stand beside me. Her eyes flicking over the mountain of blueprints and sketches I had rolled up in a neat pile. "Is this all of them?". "Yes, there is a detailed plan of every floor, shop location, public area, toilets and even parking. Name a room and and I am certain it's here" I smiled at my friend. "This is why I love you Rae" Chloe beamed. Collecting a stack of scrolls, she took off towards the board room. I had a lot of people's jobs in my hand in this moment and all I had to do is impress 4 billionaires. Easier said then done, taming one was hard enough. -- FINN POV: I saw red the moment I ended the call with Rae. To whom my anger was directed towards was a mystery, because i couldn't narrow it down to just one person. Multiple people where now on my radar. Including a women only metres away from me. Grabbing my jacket, wallet and keys I threw the door open in a haste. I didn't even care about the looks that were directed towards me. Not that my floor was full of people, it was only a handful. But those select people obviously found my fury more interesting then their work at this moment. "Cancel the rest of the day, direct all my calls to the front desk with a note saying I'm away for the rest of the day and send sorry notes with chocolates to whoever I'm cancelling on" I spoke as I walked. I didn't even look in Olivia's direction, my main goal was getting to the elevator as quickly as possible. "But Finn where are you going? You can't just cancel ev-" "Do not tell me what to do Olivia! I am your boss and you are my employee. Start acting like it for Christ sake" I hissed, my voice was raised and no doubt our audience were enjoying the show. By the look Liv's face was portraying she was livid. Not that I cared. "Will you at least tell me where your going?" She asked, grabbing my arm just as I reached the elevator. "I'm going to collect Joshua from school" I said keeping all conversation to a minimum. Olivia snorted. "Really Finn? Your leaving work for that? It's only 1 o'clock, why on earth would you be picking him up now for? I bet you Rae is only doing this to trick you into some stupid pla-" Not being able to take her rant anymore. I closed my palm over her mouth, stopping the bullshit. "Enough! Enough for once Olivia! My son needs me, and not you or anyone else is going to stop me getting to him. Im his father first and foremost. So next time when Rae rings do not hang up on her. Do you understand me?" She nodded, my hand still firmly clasped over her sticky lips. "Now if you'll excuse me, you have work to get back too and I have a son I have to see. And maybe you should go see your sister after work for a bit. I need some alone time with my children". I didn't wait for her reply. Stepping into the elevator I immediately pressed the ground floor button. And just like in the movies the elevator doors closed that two seconds, too slow. - Joshua had remained quite when I spoke to the principle in his office. Mr. Horne was a rapacious man. When he needed money, I was his life line. When the music program needs to upgrade out of season instruments they come to me. In order to keep his bulging budget, he needed to keep me happy. Joshua had gotten away with barely a slap on the hand and a day off school. Nothing was going on his permanent file, and after much hesitation on Mr. Horne's behalf the name of the other student was given to me. I knew his parents, they had been an acquaintance of my company for some time, due to my shares in theirs. The matter will get sorted, quietly. We had been home for the past 20 minutes and still Joshua had barely looked my way, only nodding and shaking his head when I spoke. This sort of behavior was unusual for my 8 year old boy. He was never one to fight, or act up. Unless it was against his sister. But after being fly tackled by a pigtail wearing 6 year old, you would get mad too. The silence finally got the best of me, when I found myself sitting across from Joshua. "What happened?" My tone demanding, but I felt desperate. "He pushed me, so I hit him". Joshua would have to be kidding if he thought he was getting away with an answer like that. Raising an eyebrow. "You expect me to take that for an answer son". "I don't know" he shrugged. "Why did he push you?" "Because". "Oh come on Joshua just tell me!" My son slammed his hand down on the couch and stood abruptly. His face was glowing red, tears threatened to spill. Something was wrong. "You want to know why dad! It's because he was talking about you and mom and I told him to get a life. He pushed me and I just hit him... I don't know why" he cried. "I just couldn't help myself". "Son" I stood, walking towards Josh and sat him back on the couch, with me right next to him. "What did he say about your mother and I? You know you can tell me right?" Nodding, Joshua pulled his knees up against his chest. "He was saying that mom wasn't good enough. That- that's why you left us". My heart shattered. I knew kids could be cruel these days, but this was nothing that I would of expected. I didn't know how I was going to explain myself to Joshua. How do you tell your son that it wasn't me to walk away, but it was her? You don't. "Josh.. Josh look at me please" cupping his chin I turned his face towards me. "Your mother was never 'not good enough' for me. She is the most lovely and courageous women I know. We didn't break up because I got sick of her son". "Then why did you break up?" Shit! "We just grew apart, but I will always love your mother". "Then why are you mean to her dad? Why does she still cry at night?" It was my turn to start tearing up. I couldn't beleive I was having an adult conversation with my 8 year old son. My heart hurt more the longer he spoke. I never knew he could hear Rae and I's conversations. He heard me when i stupidly degraded his mother, everytime i opened my mouth. Did that mean Ruby could hear too? I felt like a monster, but i was hurt. Rae had broken me to the point where hate started seeping in, leaving me with fragments of my old self that I reserved for my kids. "I'm sorry Joshua. I should never of talked to your mother like that. Please promise me you wont ever speak to your mother like that". "I wouldn't. I actually love her" he declared. "Josh. Don't talk to me like that! You are not your mother so I don't have to explain anything to you, alright? We are getting off topic and I want to talk about you hitting another student Joshua". "Colton said that his dad got to touch mom" Joshua softly spoke. My heart skipped a beat with his words, then plummeted to the pit of my stomach. "What? When?" If I wasn't sitting my knees would've already buckled by now. He was talking about Mr. Davis and Rae. How many other men has she fucked while being with Gregory, or better yet me. "He said a few years ago his dad saw mom coming out of the bathroom of this big fancy ball... And touched her. The- then he said. He said his friends laughed when Mr. Davis said mom was fighting him. What does he mean dad?" I tried to remember the last ball he had attended with Rae. It had to of been at least 3 years ago. I remember vaguely the lacey number she wore. The neckline plunged deeper then usual, teasing my eyes, and many men around him. After thinking about it, I do remember how she had been the perfect plus one. Floating around from person to person, saying her hellos. Between dancing and chatting she was spreading her happiness. Well until half way through, when she insisted they went home early. Her mood sombre, but she insisted she was due for her menstrual cycle. Unless... Something happened between Mr. Davis and Rae. Something sinister, and degrading. That son of a bitch! "Joshua. Promise me you won't tell your mother. I want to be the one to speak to her about this. And I will tonight, Ohkay?" Nodding, Joshua leaned into me as my arm draped across his shoulders. I pray that the kid was feeding Josh bullshit, but somewhere in the back of my mind I felt like something did happen. The door softly opened to reveal my beautiful daughter and brother, walking through the entrance still unnoticed to Josh and I's presence. Until Ruby looked up and make eye contact with me. "Daddy!" The click of her polished leather shoes echoed the foyer. "Hi princess, did you have fun at school?" "I did! I did! We learnt our 4 times tables today daddy. They so easy, but Mike said that I was just a smarty pants. I told him that my daddy always said I should have my nose within a book, then a boy on a hook" she declared proudly. My glorious daughter reminded me so much of her mother. The light in her eyes shone brightly, just like Rae's. "Well done baby girl. Did you have fun with Uncle Archie?" I asked. Looking towards Archie I smiled, mouthing 'thank you'. I had phoned him the moment I jumped in the car to pick up Josh. He, of course agreed. Our work was close to Ruby's school, plus Archie had informed me that Ben is quite able to pick up Sophie daycare. "Yes we organised a play date for Mommy and Uncle Archie. He said he wants mommy, Joshua and I to come see them. It's going to be fun!" Archie and Rae must have rekindled their relationship after we interrupted her dinner. With Gregory. "That sounds great sweetheart. How about you and Josh go to your rooms for a second whilst I talk to Archie, ohkay". "Ohkay daddy! Come on Josh, I can show you what I did today in art class with Crissy" she pulled on her brother arm in a haste. Finally, when they went to their rooms I turned to my Brother. "What happened with Josh?" he asked, moving towards the love seat next to me. "He got into a fight with John Davis' son today. He punch him when Colton started to talk about Rae and I's relationship". Sighing, I ran my hand through my thick hair. I knew I could trust my brother with my life, so I knew what I was about to tell him will be kept confidential. "What about your relationship?" Quizativley he moved forward. "Apparently she wasn't good enough for me so I left. But that's not all..." "How could a kid say something like that! How would he know what was going on with your family? Hang on there's more?" I told him everything that Josh had just told me, down to what I remembered about the night. I could see the empathy in Archie's eyes. The more I talked, the more my throat constricted. The words left a bitter taste in my mouth, if only I had been there. I could of done something. "Finn you don't know for sure if anything happened that night. John could of been telling a bullshit story to a punch of people. Don't beat yourself up about it". "Archie, you don't understand. After that night Rae started to become slightly distant, I didn't notice it until she left though. She didn't seem like herself, but originally I thought it was because of the kids. Then 6 months later, she fucking left me with divorce papers". "Finn-" "What if this was the reason. She couldn't bare to look at me after I let my work associate molest her!" "You didn't know!" "I should of asked her what was wrong. I should of followed her or something. I can't stop thinking what if..." "Talk to her. Finn, you need to go around and talk to her. What time are you meant to drop Joshua and Ruby back off?" "7.." I breathed. "Its now 4pm, go talk to her now. I'll stay here with the kids and if your not back by 6.30pm then I'll drop them of there. That gives you 2 and a half hours to work out what the fuck happened, Ohkay?" Nodding like a scolded child I got up of the couch. "Are you sure?" I asked. I was unsure about leaving the kids with him, but I needed to talk to Rae immediately. I couldn't wait til i dropped Ruby and Joshua off tonight. "Of course Finn. I'm your brother, I'll do anything for you". "Thank you". I pulled Archie in for a hug, then ran out the door. I hope Rae is ready for me. -- As quickly as I could I drove to Rae's house. When I arrived, I threw the gear into parked and hurried to her front door. After knocking I waited very patiently for a very confused but equally beautiful Rae to open the door. "Finn?.. What are you doing here? Where are the kids?" "We need to talk Rae. Josh and Ruby are fine, they are with Archie" I said. The truth will be revived tonight. What really happened the night she walked away... No more waiting. -- I hope I haven't forgotten anyone!
