I think the nightmare I just set myself up for finally hit me. I just now realized what routes I have currently selected across ikesen, ikerev, ikevamp, and ikepri and all I have to say is- Shit, Im gonna be an emotional wreck, arent I?

The routes I currently have selected are:

Ikesen: Kenshin Uesugi

Ikerev: Lancelot Kingsley

Ikevamp: Comte de Saint-Germain

Ikepri: Licht Klein

Please ignore the fact that 3/4 of them are blonde-I swear I dont have a type. Thats a lie. I totally do. But its not blondes lol- God, I need to stop. I am not funny.

I dont know much about Comte's route besides that fact he and Mitsuki get married at the end of his romantic route, and that his real name is Abel. Funny story there! I didnt even learn his real name from his route, I learned because of fucking spoilers. Shortly after his route came out, I played uhh one of the wedding events and bought his epilogue because Im a whore- In the epilogue, they used his real name- So thats how I found out. I was a bit mad like, "Wow I just spent 300 diamonds get to spoiled. Wtf." But I figured Id probably forget because autism brain.

Which I did forget, until I found a oneshot book on wattpad that used Comte for the title, but then used Abel throughout the entire fucking oneshot without warning. I was maybe half-way through the oneshot before questioning, "who the fuck is Abel and where's le Comte? Oh- OH WAIT- ABEL IS COMTE-" So lil message to fanfic writers, treat your readers like idiot babies and put warnings for potential spoilers. Some people (me, im people) read oneshots without playing the actual route first. Im not actually that bothered by spoilers, Id just appreciate being warned first.

Back to the main subject of this post- I dont know if le Comte's route is sad or not. Knowing the devs, it probably is though. I already know that Licht's route is one hell of an emotional rollercoaster like holy shit- I hate touching others but Id gladly ignore every single one of my sensory issues if it meant I could give this poor sad man a hug. Ive been warned that Kenshin's route is a bit intense, but I just keep telling myself that he cant be worse than Nobunaga and it'll all be worth it in the end. To just shut the fuck up with your anxiety and date the pretty but secretly soft yandere boy. Ive heard Lancelot's route is sad, but Im prepared. Similarly to Mitsuhide, Ive already played a few routes before Lancelot's that he was a major part in so I have some idea of how his may end.

But all I see is that Ive set myself up for a potentially very emotional rollercoaster so in about a week or maybe even a month, I'll share how my potential mental breakdown is going.

Dazai “Like Mimi-san said, why don’t I hold you in my arms right now? You locked us up, even.”

Dazai “We shared a pillow once on that downpour. In any case, it’s good to make an established fact.” 

Dazai “It’s all right, I’ll make you feel good. You......like me, don’t you?”

MC “——······”

MC chest hurts at the sound of terribly cold words.

MC “......Dazai-san, are you angry? That, is this also your intention of being a clown......”

Dazai “Hmm, who knows?”

MC heart tightened more at his indifferent reply.

Sadness and agitation ···— his expression she has never seen before is so painful.

Leonardo sighs and picks up the book that fell on the floor.

Leonardo “Give up the idea getting hit by me. I don’t think you’re such a mean fellow.”

Dazai “......Haha, aren’t you overestimating me? I’m just a man who could do nothing but acts like a clown.”

Leonardo “You don’t look like a clown now, you know......?”

Leonardo leaves the room, after presses the book against Dazai, along with his words.

The pressed book is returned to the table, and Dazai lets out a small sigh.

Dazai “I can’t believe the urge to suck blood was so unbearable......”

A deep distress that is engraved between his eyebrows could be peeked through the face which is covered in one hand......

Dazai “Mimi-san. When you’re with me, I......my heart, on its own accord......feels happiness.”

Dazai “I mustn’t desire such thing. Only that girl......I don’t want to be unhappy.”

Dazai “I —··· I want to stab myself to death right now.”

The next day —···

Sitting on the edge of the fountain, MC gently brushes Dazai’s book on her lap.

She came to the town for a diversion, but it was just yesterday that she couldn’t help but remember.

(Why did he kiss me like that......?)

Forcibly kissed her lips, and messing up her clothes.

(This is the first time I’ve ever seen such Dazai-san......)

Apart from feeling surprised and sad, MC’d be lying if she said she didn’t have any fear.

Charles “Isn’t it hard to stay near Dazai? Then, I’ll be by your side.”

MC “Charles......”

Words similar to sweet invitation being put out one after another.

When MC cannot take them all, Charles rests his hand on her hand that she put on the book.

Charles “I won’t leave you alone. Hey Mimi, come with me.”

Charles “How about ‘we’ live happily in a world created by vampires?”

MC “......! Vampires......”

MC’s eyes wide open to the fact that Charles himself revealed what he had heard from Shakespeare.

He continues happily with a *mystical smile.

(*くすりと笑み - smile like a drug, cognate with the kusu root of adjective 奇し (kusushi, “mystical”), from the way that drugs and medicines would have mystical effects, I think? wwwww

Charles “I made you surprised, huh. But Mimi knows the secret of the people in the mansion and lives together with them, right?”

Charles “I’m the same. I died once and revived as a vampire.”

Charles “My benefactor — Lord Vlad, found me through a door that transcends space and time.”

(Charles, what the heck are you thinking......)

MC “Why......did you tell me? You won’t get any benefits by telling me.”

Charles shows a blank look, surprised to hear her back as MC hides her tremble.

Charles “Eh......? Did you perhaps know my true identity?”

MC “......”

When MC gets hold of herself a little bit while hesitating, Charles laughs brightly.

Charles “What’s that, I see it now......”

Charles “I talked to you because I want you to know more and more about me.”

Charles “Just like you straightly believe in Dazai, I too want you to understand and believe in me......no, in US.”

MC “Believe......?”

Charles continues his story with shining eyes.

Charles “Lord Vlad wants to keep this world beautiful for eternity.”

Charles “He wishes for peace far and far away into the future.”

MC “The world for eternity......”

Charles “Yeah. Everyone in the world should love each other without fighting.”

Charles “Don’t you think that would be really really happy?”

Charles “Lord Vlad thinks of borrowing the power of great men to realize such world.”

(Isn’t that what Shakespeare-san said about the purpose of the guy named Vlad?)

MC “Is that why Charles approached Dazai-san?”

Charles just smiles sweetly to MC’s timid question.

Charles “Hmm. I wish not only Dazai, but also all the vampires could cooperate......”

(It’s like a dream full of hopes, but......)

What crosses MC mind is the raw killing match that she saw on Shakespeare’s stage.

Just remembering about the scene makes her spine chilled......

MC “Charles......The man who revived Charles could use someone.”

MC “Also......Isn’t he a scary guy who’s willing to let others die......?”

Charles “......”

When MC asks the question boldly, Charles stares at her with eyes like calm surface of water......

Evading MC’s astonishing eyes, Charles looks up at the sky with sorrowful eyes.

Charles “Don’t be afraid of Lord Vlad. He’s a guy who’s truly loves this world and humans.”

He shows a genuine expression and truly looks sad.

However, the words spun from his word that accept such terrible things......they are contradicting.

(I don’t understand Charles’s thought......)

MC feels she couldn’t speak anymore, and gently releases Charles’s hand that rests on hers.

Charles “Mimi?”

MC “......I can’t go with Charles.”

MC “Even if it’s for the sake of peace, but after being told that the death of a person is something that can’t be helped, I can’t take it.”

MC “No matter the reason is, a person’s death is sad......”

MC “Even if it’s not what Charles did, but if you’re fine with killing people, it’s like killing with your heart.”

His light blue eyes wide open in tremble.

Dazai dramatic route completed.

I don't really like to post my feelings and thoughts about a story but this route is worth every exception in the world. I still cannot stop myself from thinking about it five hours and a nap later.

- No spoiler section

Amazing. This route is ABSOLUTELY UNEXPECTEDLY AMAZING.

Some new backgrounds are just beautiful. The CGs are in a very delicate style, and I love how he looks both more charming and mysterious in them than a lot of his early cards and his sprite.

- Light spoiler section

I was quite concerned about the quality of this route before this because there are several routes that I absolutely did not feel anything when I finished them, and also I expect Dazai to be one of the hardest characters to do well, considering what we know of his past and his novels. As far as I am concerned, it'd also be a little bit weird if the ending of the story, is "they live happily ever after".

The writer did an absolutely amazing job with all these potential pitfalls and all my concerns are very well addressed. Probably will follow more work of whoever wrote this.

- Heavy spoiler section

In the early chapters, when Dazai notices that MC is missing home, he brings her to see hydrangeas. This part fulfills my biggest dream of team Japan (MC, Dazai, and Sebastian). I have ALWAYS been wanting to see that they can share and understand things that remind them home ❤️

Dazai's emotion is depicted very on point, that he does not get close to other people and stays a clown to entertain everyone, that he punishes himself and does not allow himself happiness, that he wants to stretch his hand out to reach for MC but takes it back (and the occasional emotion overflow). They are well explained and well written.

At the same time, I love, love, love this MC. She's definitely also the highlight of the story. Before realizing that Dazai used himself as the prototype in No Longer Human, she sincerely but casually says the following:

"The young man in No Longer Human is clumsy and timid, but I can also feel that he wholeheartedly faces people...... He becomes very, very adorable/lovable to me"

When during one of the times, Dazai tries to walk out to avoid her questions, she runs to the door, LOCKS IT, and asks him to give her the answers.

In the most dramatic moment of the route, she can face herself honestly, and accept the responsibility, burden, and punishment of her action.

The only thing I am slightly uncomfortable is how often she calls him Shuji after they become together...

I really can't think of any MC in ikevam as good as her ❤️❤️❤️

The only thing I can say about the ending, is, infinite thanks to the writer. I really love how it stays a happy ending, but also shows the heavy burden and punishment of living. I REALLY LOVE IT.

All in all, 120/100. I am excited to read it again, slowly this time. And I can't wait for it to be voiced

Bonus scene: MC no longer getting kicked out of Dazai’s room like in all previous stories, but invited in ;)
