Hi, i tried to lookup this info online but I don’t want to be too misinformed about this religion. Since you’re a professor in religious studies, I figured I could ask you. There is a religion based in the Philippines called Iglesia ni Cristo, founded in 1914 i believe. By all accounts from what i read, it sounds like a form of Christian religion, but under guise also seems like a cult. Have you heard of this religion? I could be misinformed, however I looked up this religion after an acquaintance mentioned that they attend twice a week masses(a requirement to stay in the church, otherwise you will be visited by church authority), have a certain % of their salary donated to the church (acquaintance also volunteered to document and tally up who “donated” what for the church), are required to marry within the church only, & they mentioned the church is exclusive and claims its the only true religion. My acquaintance was apprehensive about going into detail when i asked why they were doing all this, and were even avoiding telling me the name of their church until just recently. I had a funny feeling about it, but I dont want to immediately assume. So I figured I ask you if you heard if this religion and your thoughts?

I've heard about Iglesia ni Cristo. Indeed, there are a lot of theological parallels between Islam and this Church because it denies the divinity of Christ and believes in unitarian monotheism. From an Islamc perspective, they're closer to Tawhid (Islamic monotheism) than their trinitarian counterparts.

Regardless, Iglesia ni Cristo is a cult in the sense that it attempts to be exclusive and closed, controlling the members of the Church in their everyday life by suppressing and brainwashing members, shunning any form of individuality in order to have them submit to the will of the Church. The NC has a reputation for swindling members out of their money, seeing it as a religious duty. There have been cases where members were publicly shamed and persecuted by the Church if you miss church services on a regular basis. Ex-members, in particular, face danger as they are constantly harassed by the Church.

I can't say I have much experience with this cult, but I do know for certain that one should avoid them at all cost.

International Chess Org: Trans Women Have "No Right To Participate" In Women's Chess

In recent months, the discussion surrounding transgender participation in sports has intensified. Several sports organizations have ruled that transgender women cannot participate in their competitions. This trend has expanded beyond traditional sports like swimming, touching even disc golf and billiards, based on perceived “advantages” of transgender athletes. The reaction to trans people in competition has grown to include non-sporting contests like beauty pageants and Jeopardy! after seeing transgender success. Now, FIDE, the world’s foremost international chess organization, has introduced guidelines that would revoke titles from transgender men and bar many transgender women from competing, asserting that trans women "have no right to participate.”

The regulations, reported online by French transgender FIDE master, Yosha Iglesias, spell out a list of policy changes that apply to transgender competition in chess. Among the policy changes:

+ Transgender men must relinquish their women-category titles after transitioning.

+ Transgender women can keep their previous titles.

+ Transgender women have “no right to compete” in the women’s division.

+ Transgender women will be “evaluated” by the FIDE Council on if they will be allowed to compete in a process that may take up to 2 years.

+ FIDE can mark transgender players as “transgender” in their files.

+ Gender changes must be “comply with the player’s national laws” and may include birth certificate documents (despite many nations refusing to change transgender birth certificates)

hi, tumblr! i finally have time to sit down and update you guys on everything that's been going on recently so buckle up cause medyo maraming updates to:

like i mentioned in my previous posts, we went to japan last week and it was honestly so amazing na i never had the time to read or journal or even vlog about it kasi each day we were there, we were so busy enjoying everything we had spontaneously planned out for that day; may days na ang pangit ng weather pero for the majority of the trip, maaraw naman and long story short super saya talaga i feel like if there's one place everyone should visit kahit once in a lifetime, it should be japan (i mean DUH yung pagkain palang guys sobrang sarap plus everything is really cheap)

but even though i didnt have enough time to journal, i still have a lot of little notes and papers and postcards i collected during our time in japan so ang dami kong memorabilia which i love and which i plan on sticking to my journal maybe tomorrow

nang dahil i went back to work early this week, i still ended up being really busy actually before this holy week break which includes the little fiasco i posted about my boss na until now hindi niya parin nafifinalize so di ko na talaga siya pinoproblema

pero in hindsight, yung mga extra na gusto niyang isubmit, ill work on them tomorrow for a bit para pag iopen niya nga yung files, atleast mag eedit nalang siya

other than that, work is okay! super duper far from perfect but i like work and its one of the only things keeping me going; my officemates are really nice plus they are planning on flying everyone out of the country for the company outing so sana talaga matuloy

hindi kami naka visita iglesia this year kasi nga wala na kaming family driver and yung tatay ko and kuya ko super tamad naman to participate in things like that kaya ayun we just ended up hearing mass online and doing some grocery shopping before dinner

medyo nasungitan ko mom ko kanina kasi she nagged me about my weight (i wanted ice cream) eh the funny thing is, she was willing to buy ice cream naman talaga in the first place so i dont know why she made a big fuss about me wanting ice cream for myself

we had late dinner kasi natagalan mag luto mom ko pero super duper sarap ng ginawa niyang fish burgers as in restaurant level; i might just have some more tomorrow since maraming natira

probably gonna end the night with some nail care and some vlogs
