Very old tea - Beemoov's writers
Every day I wake up and find new drama in the fandom. I have to admit it is entertaining but fake news and misinformation really annoy me so here we go. What's the new tea? It's actually very old tea, but it needs to be put into context.
A few hours ago, someone rummaging through the New Gen website, ended up on the credit page, where they found this
Tumblr media
This page isn't reachable from the website, there are no links, you need to type the full url to get there because it's only a placeholder. You can clearly see that those are Eldarya TO credits, and an old Priya illustration is used as background. Literally yesterday Chino mentioned in her Instagram stories that there are lots of placeholders on the website.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite this, news is now circulating that the same team that worked on Eldarya is now working on New Gen. I don't think people have been saying this maliciously, it's possible that they got confused with the placeholder, which didn't have the big red disclaimer I added in the screenshot above. However now they are freaking out for no reason and bringing back so much old drama, which is also partially wrong. So here I am trying to clarify, hoping that people will see this (but alas, tumblr isn't as popular as facebook and twitter so maybe I'm just shouting into the wind).
MCL and Eldarya writing team
Part 1. High School Life and the Sally Anne drama
Firstly, at the very very beginning of MCL, Chino was on her own, she was working on both the art and the writing. However, soon later the company looked for a writer, Chino pushed for her friend Sally Anne to be hired even if she had no prior professional experience, and the company agreed. Eventually they also became roommates and even closer friends.
Now, the people who have been around for ages like me know that there was huge drama at some point. Sally Anne had some health issues and pretty much disappeared for months in the middle of Nath's arc. Lots of things were said at the time, some true some very untrue. Sally Anne made a facebook post mentioning how Chino and the company were bullying her. One of the accusations that people like to bring back all the time is that the character of Aleja, who was based on Sally Anne, was used to bully her because she was written as a bit silly. Maybe people forget that all Eldarya self-inserts are very flawed. Jamon can barely use grammar when he speaks, Kero is a coward, Ykhar an anxious nervous train wreak. I don't see anyone say that Chinomiko bullied herself by making Miiko such a raging bitch.
Anyway I believe that Sally Anne herself realised that this and other bullying accusations were unfair since she later retracted it. Some people say that she was forced by Beemoov to do so (I don't know where they would get this information, it's a pretty strong accusation). Others say that all this is common behaviour for people who suffer from addiction. I'm just going to add some additional context that most people may not be aware of since I hardly see it mentioned.
When Sally Anne left the company she started her own personal project with some friends. They put together a kickstarted campaign for a BL game and earned around 58,000€. After that however, the project never came to light because of, again, Sally Anne's personal issues. Here you can see a post from the team describing the situation, which is proof that her health condition was not connected to Beemoov work environment at all, since the same thing happened again while working on her own personal project with other friends of hers. Additionally here is the final post written soon afterward, where the team explained that they would not be able to make the game. They also said that they had used up most of the kickstarter money already even though the game had not been produced. They gave people only one month to claim their kickstarter pledge back. Considering to this day there's still people who wonder what happened to their Eldarya account, I strongly believe not many people managed to see that post and claim their money with only a one month timeframe.
Anyway, this serves as a context to show that in a very small company, when the writer disappears for whatever reason, either the project is cancelled or they have to hire someone else. Lots of people believe that Beemoov is a huge company when it's not. At the time of these events there were around 50 employees, and those people had to earn a living. Sally Anne was the only writer, this whole situation led to MCL not being released for at least half a year, which compromised everyone's salaries. Players were complaining like crazy but, despite hearing only one side of the story, they were very happy to jump on the "Sally Anne was being bullied" train once new writers were hired and they could play the game again.
So, let's talk about the "new" writers.
Part 2. Second half of High School Life and Eldarya TO
Once it was clear that Sally Anne would not be able to come back to work, Beemoov hired two new writers. Hikaru who would end up being Eldarya TO's writer, and Cassandre who took over MCL and finished High School season. (These info you can find in the games credits).
Hikaru was the CM at the time, because the company was looking for a writer for this new game Eldarya they gave her a chance. Chino and Hikaru got along well and I think it's visible in TO's writing. Remember Chino is the creator, she decides the story and the events, the writer writes them, and Chino reads and corrects the script. I think it's clear from TO's writing that they had a good synergy. Hikaru left around the end of TO for personal reasons, she moved to another city and changed career, it was her choice to kill off her self-insert (Ykhar) before leaving, so no there was no big conspiracy around the self-inserts. To this day she and Chino are still friends. But no, she's not coming back to write New Gen as people who saw the placeholder seem to believe.
Cassandre, as I said, took over MCL HSL in the middle of Nath's arc. I think it's visible that the season feels a bit different with a different writer, but I still like it, I think she did a good job as a writer. However, once high school was over, in a move that I will never understand, Beemoov's management decided to assign Eldarya to her, not as a writer but as a project manager, effectively taking over Chino's role. So Chino had to leave from around episodes 20-22 and never went back. She only provided the main storyline of the worlds merging, but at some point she resumed working on the events only.
So from around episode 20-22 to episode 29 Hikaru and Cassandre worked together, with Hikaru as the writer and Cassandre as the one deciding the plot/scenes and supervising the writing.
Part 3. Eldarya ANE + MCL University, Love and Alternate Life
Once Hikaru left, Alexis took over. So from episode 30 of TO and throughout ANE he and Cassandre have worked on Eldarya alone. This is the dream team we owe the state of Eldarya to. None of them knew the first 22 episodes of the games in depth and hence why we have all the plot holes and different characters' personalities. Additionally, at that point Cassandre started working on Uncoven so it is my personal opinion that Alexis was mostly on his own during ANE because clearly you can see that the person who wrote that had no idea what Eldarya was really about.
What happened in MCL at the same time? Once Cassandre moved to Eldarya, Beemoov found another writer for MCL, Cara, who wrote University Life. My personal opinion is that she was a good writer, I like University Life, but there's very little romance. Less than HSL for sure. But there are many funny scenes and a young adults feel that I really liked. She and Chino worked on UL together as writer/creator and it's still one of my favourite seasons, however the lack of flirting scenes is visible.
Then, when Love Life started, another writer joined the team, Antoine, Chino was still the creator and Cara remained as proofreader and also worked on Uncoven with Cassandre. My personal opinion is that there are lots of issues in Love Life because of how some themes of feminism, sexual harassment etc. are treated. Additionally the romance was even less than in UL, and some characters' personalities took a slightly strange turn. However I did like the main storyline and the ending that went full circle.
By the time Alternate Life started, both Cassandre and Cara had left the company, Antoine was still around to write additional LL episodes such as wedding and honeymoon, and the events. Eldarya's writing was over and so Alternate's writing has been the product of Alexis and Chino alone.
Part 4. What about today? MCL New Gen
New Gen is being written by Alexis and Chino, same team and dynamic as Alternate, the two of them alone. So if you see people around saying that Hikaru is back or whatever else, it's not true.
You may not like Alexis' writing after what was done to Eldarya, which I totally understand. If I hadn't played all Alternate Life I would feel the same and think that the guy isn't able to think deeper than a teaspoon. But luckily I really like what he and Chino can do together so I have a good feeling for New Gen.

re: your arcana post - i literally don't even go here but i live for drama.... if you were ever to do a video essay or even just a write up in a post about the situation.... i want to know what happened, can't resist 👀👀
oh my goodd it's so eerie to explain it to someone who wasn't involved but this silly little mobile dating sim was just an initial passion project from a small team of employees of an indie game developer that was basically given six weeks to turn in something completely self-indulgent and it quickly got a backing on kickstarter around 2016-2017? beyond that it was quite a classic case of a project becoming more famous than its creators expected and it turns into a bit of a mess bc of their lack of experience. and by that i mean they got very close to the fans, and that's bound to open a can of worms. they used to make weekly q&as and you can't imagine what an exciting event that was, oh my god literally everyone was in a discord server losing their shit bc the devs had opened the askbox and we could ask the stupidest questions in the world about their characters and they would answer bc frankly they were very funny and the characters were all like... established in a funny enough way that it was so easy to make good jokes about them.
and i think what makes it very interesting is that the fandom was actually pretty small, but it felt HUGE. those q&as seemed like the most viral posts you could run into when you logged on tumblr but really most of them had a couple thousand notes at best, even when the arcana was at its most popular. it was literally like living in a small village where everybody knew EVERYBODY. if you posted something, high chance everyone in the fandom would see and reblog. it was like a hive mind.
also part of the reason why it felt so huge was bc everyone was churning out fan content like CRAZY, i don't think there was ever any fandom i've personally been in where i've seen so many people create so much damn stuff and frankly i think it's one of its strongest features. idk what it is about this game but everytime i revisit it inspires me so much, suddenly i wanna pick up my tablet after months, i wanna try writing again, etc. it's just wonderful at urging you to create and i have no idea how one even achieves that.
but yea the fandom slowly disappeared partly due to controversies, some of the creators were found to have been into some questionable stuff back in their not so olden days and they stepped away from the limelight, afterwards i believe a lot of the team stepped away from the game altogether. but it was weird because the controversies were constant, not just towards the creators but also within the fandom itself 💀 and given the huge volume of them they of course ranged from reasonable criticism especially regarding the representation of the characters of color, or the absurd microtransaction to stuff like 'his eyes are drawn bigger in this cg so the artists wanted to make him look like a child so this game caters to pedos actually' dkjgdkfj i saw some CRAZY takes and the bad faith criticism definitely overshadowed the reasonable voices in my opinion, it was not balanced at all. they stopped doing the q&as, the posts they made on their official tumblr became way more sanitized, and actually in a way so did some aspects of the game, and little by little it grew quieter.
and now it's... silent. but it's so near and dear to my heart, i think it's an absolutely wonderful game and what i love about it the most is how much it inspires people to create. and i think the reason why is bc unlike in many games like this (at least i think, i'm not sure cause i haven't played many) your character doesn't just suddenly meet every love interests. they have a connection to some of the love interests and a past they don't remember so it's very interesting to peel those layers back, BUT because it's your character the story stays quite vague about the past. so it's incredibly fun to speculate, to create a backstory, etc! that's i think one of my favorite things about it and it's not a coincidence that arcana went on to inspire some fans to venture into the visual novel genre as creators themselves.
and yea overall it just felt like a close positive community (well. mostly really, we are talking about a fandom on tumblr here so) and a super creative and inspiring one. the jokes were super fun, the art was top notch, the writing was also good. so yea i kinda miss it and it's sad to see how empty it seems now? like i see people from 2020 onward go 'ohh i just discovered this game' and i'm like... MY SWEET SUMMER CHILD... YOU HAVE NO IDEA.... YOU HAD TO BE THERE.... and ig i didn't really answer your question bc i kind of glossed over the drama but i went through the whole phenomenon bc i think it was. really interesting to witness 🫡

so,, I just finished watching TMA, like, as I'm writing this.
"Good Luck." Holy shit.what a way to end a series huh? Well, 'Oh... Hello' turns me away from a series end but.
I wasn't ready. For any of it. For Helen's death, kids was hoping she'd stick around, well. Till she tried to trap Jon-
And god- walking through the fears- the statements- mixed with my very vivid imagination, almost, almost felt like I was there- terrifying. But. In a way, nice. Definetly helped with my nyctophobia.
And- I still need to rewatch the Home animation, it was the very first peice of content I saw for it. Back in 2021. Two years ago, honestly back then I thought it was a Disney - I'm not joking! I thought it was Disney.
This. I've gotten more people to listen to it! That's always exciting! Been using the Tim's Explosive personality- but- well you should've warned me that Georige and Melanie had one too! In a doffrent way then Tim but still!
And goodness- Martin, I didn't expect him to have a domain- but it made so much sence! With him being an Avatar of the Lonely and all.
And yknow what, thank you Hiveswap, I remember in the ofrst ask I sent, I said you were the one who got me to listen to The Magnus Archives, and I thank you for that- I mean I can't look at the world normally again- everywhere I turn its another entity, there was a fucking infestation of ants on (one) of my hammocks today, it was my favorite one too :< but that is very Corruption. And yet, I don't know, it's genuinely, really, helped me process my own fears, yeah there still there but, it's not as bad as before, The Dark episodes helped me out woth my nyctophobia, especially when they passed through the Domain! I just, thank you Jenna, for the amazing journey.
Ps: just before sending this through I listened to The Magnus Protocol Kickstarter and I gotta say, Sidequel is an AMAZING word.
Hello!! Oh that Home animation is amazing i can see how you thought it was made by professionals. I remember telling you the "tim has am explosive personality" joke omg it's been a while. About georgie and melanie. Well at least they didn't literally explode
I'm so happy you enjoyed it, and yeah no one is ever ready for that ending and I was so messed up over what happened with Helen near the end too. I even named a captured enderman after her before the episode relased...
I actually didn't like s5 all that much for the same reason you said, it was far more brutal than the previous stuff and i was so scared about martin's domain when we found out about it, but it fit him really well i think.
Welcome to the fandom, the finding entities irl thing is never gonna go away or get old. See you when the magnus protocol begins bc i just know that everyone is going to be thrown right back into the fandom :D

7.) Ship the antis in your fandom like, but you think is hella problematic?
and
8.) Ship that is (presented as) cute in canon/fanon, but you think is problematic anyway.
If you want ofc.
Holy shit I didn't think anyone would ask me anything, thank you so much!!
I'm... so sorry for the oncoming rants. Oh boy lol.
CW for mentions of coercion toward the end
7) Chansaw. Chansaw, Chansaw, Chansaw. Without a sliver of a shadow of a doubt.
Antis like it because WLW, and as we all know, WLW >>>>> HET ALWAYS. And also, WLW is never toxic because they say so, and if you disagree, you're an ugly pedo rape apologist! HET BAAAAAD, WLW GOOOOOOOD! uwu! Because, you see, when a boy pulls your pigtails because he likes you, it's problematic. But when a girl pulls your pigtails because she likes you, suddenly it's all right! Because it's different when it's a GIRL. She's not a BOY, so it's different, see? Because if it's a BOY, it's not gay. It's m/f, not f/f, and it's less valid if it's not f/f don't you know uwu I'm so progressive and if you don't like this specific ship UM you're homophobic 💀💀💀 l + ratio + bozo /S
Never mind the fact there's literally three other girls to choose from, so this is hardly the only wlw ship we have to work with or perish. 5/8 of the students are girls, and Ms. Flem is the only notable adult. Never mind that all Chandler and Veronica do is butt heads the entire time they're on screen together. At least when Veronica got together with J.D., she actually liked him. He had nothing to offer her, yet she still decided he was worth the trouble and only realized she dun goofed later on when he proves he's not exactly safe to be around. Whereas she got with the Heathers specifically for the benefits of popularity, not because she liked them (in the musical, her exact words were "They're solid Teflon - never bothered, never harassed / I would give anything to be like that." Not them. Like that), and she paid for it with her talent of forgery.
I've seen the argument Chansaw is better because Chandler was just a bully, whereas J.D. murdered people. OBVIOUSLY no one is doubting murder is worse than bullying. Right?? That's a given (I hope). But they seem to be forgetting bullying is also bad behavior. Plus, when that's not the question being asked, any attempt to insist that's still the answer just derails and distracts from the point. The question is NOT "whose actions are more bad/who can we deem the WORSER PERSON (and therefore who DESERVES to be HATED MORE)?" but "do their actions paint them as bad people?" Murdering is bad, yes, obviously, but so is being a cunt. Veronica didn't want to murder, but she ALSO didn't want to be an asshole to others, not for shits and giggles, and definitely not to Martha Dunnstock, who's done literally nothing to anyone. I don't see how that's so hard to understand. The scale of the offense doesn't matter because that’s not the point.
8) Again, Chansaw. None of the relationships in Heathers are without some level of problematic bs, but this one kickstarts it. The story wouldn't exist if this relationship was any better than it canonically is.
Heather Chandler treats everyone around her with the utmost contempt, including Veronica Sawyer, and the fact that antis love this ship so much is one of the fandom's biggest ironies. You can't wear the "Mythic Bitch" badge with pride but recoil and screech and desperately try to reframe it as something else when she actually and unapologetically behaves like a bitch. Passing off the toxicity as romantic also goes against anti beliefs since that's romanticizing toxicity, is it not? And insisting she's actually not a bitch because "well um uhm uhhhm ackshually see what happened was like their own personal headcanon dictates she's just mean because like misunderstood uwu and like daddy issues owo and if you don’t agree their interpretation is the only valid one despite blatantly contradicting canon then did you know you're the wrongest person in the whole wide world to ever wrong and also did you know deserve the death?" is like... first of all, headcanons are just headcanons, not canon-canon, and no one has to agree with ones they don’t like, and second of all, we clearly did not watch the same story because that girl has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
(And no! Her high school junior ass getting coerced into blowing a uni guy in the movie doesn't make her misunderstood! Sympathetic, absolutely. But there's nothing to misunderstand. Adult man pressure girl at party. Girl hate this. Girl mad. Girl mad so girl mean to friend for not getting hurt too. Friend sick. Friend want go home. Girl not let sick friend go since sick friend not hurt like girl was. Sick friend vomit. Girl mad at sick friend more. Friend mad at girl. Girl drop friend. Friend try say sorry. Girl not say sorry back. Girl not care. Friend kill girl. Friend not mean to. Girl dead. What's not to get?
Also no! Her singing her "suicide" note in the musical doesn't mean jack because we all saw her "suicide" was murder (that's literally the premise), and her murderers are writing this note to cover their asses. All the stuff they're making her say is to make it look like she murdered herself so they don't get in trouble. It can't be more obvious than it's shown! I can't believe antis are so desperate to prove they only stan Good People they choose to blatantly ignore concrete evidence of shit going on and try to insist their pure viewing is the universal interpretation of events! There's headcanon and then there's whatever this is!)

A few things to take note of: This post was written by a new fan of Free! (so I just got here, literally)
I might not know wtf I'm talking about here... no hates please. I'm a total newbie. Over the course of a week, I think though? Or almost two weeks, I have made some progress and decided on which characters are my favorites.
This is also coming from a person who almost shipped Ikuya x Haruka thanks to Dive to the Future LMAO- AND thanks to Dive to the Future once again- for making me realize that Haru acts differently when it comes to Rin (out of everyone), after all. Like, there's just something in the way he would act and think whenever/wherever Rin is involved... something to that effect. And thus, my stance on shipping RinHaru just became more SOLID instead.
Disclaimer: When I type out stuff like this, I often jump from one topic to another as I struggle composing myself and perhaps, complete my thought process...because there's just so many things running through my head xD like, I so desperately want to say them, or type them, but my attention span oh lord. Sorry in advance.
Right, so...
This is a post about my feelings about Haru, I suppose. (And Rin) (and some of the main casts??)
I know that for some, this could be up for debate, but coming from someone who just joined the Free! fandom not even two weeks ago like me (so technically, this is from an outsider's perspective), I would say Rin is the most suitable person for people like Haru (or you know, the perfect candidate to be with Haru) who, for the most part of the series, showed us just how "lost" he was in terms of what he could be in the future, which is always an important factor in anyone's life.
And I will tell you why I think so... You might tell me, "Why not Rei? Why not Nagisa? Why not Makoto? They were the three characters that were always by Haru's side the entire show!!" and I would agree with you on that... On the part that they were the three characters that were always in the same screen/scene/picture as Haru throughout show. But to see them as, "always by Haru's side in the sense that they met/make Haru realize his ACTUAL needs, as well as EVERY need?" I would have to disagree... They are great support for Haru, that much is true, but in terms of his future? The real deal? Long term kind of thing? It's an entirely different story.
Rin, however, made me see just how much he respected Haru—apart from the 1st season, obviously, since it's a plot device so we have a franchise haha. Post-war, Rin started coming back down to his senses and this is where we're finally seeing the REAL Rin. The real Rin who gave importance to Haru as a person, as a friend, as a rival, etc. And they didn't even have to be together 24/7, Rin just knows Haru SO WELL, he knows him like the back of his hand. It's as if he almost didn't leave the country and stayed with Haru all his life for him to memorize the little things that matter to Haru, that makes the guy happy.
Haru's routine goes: he wakes up, he hangs out in the tub, he gets out of it, and then wear an apron to cook his favorite meal, saba, before kickstarting his day. Rin never complained and even thought it was SO Haru... much like Nagisa, tbh! Another character who accepts Haru for the way he is! ^^ If I know anyone who did the exact opposite, well... whoever they are, I'm sure it's because they wish nothing but the best for Haru! But the question is: was it really the "best" for Haru? But that's besides the point. Thing is, Rin accepts Haru for who he is, and I love that for them... Makes for a healthy long term relationship, if I do say so myself. Less fights, less arguments, just healthy banter here and there. And I say healthy banter because I know that somewhere in there, Rin teased Haru about his saba obsession HAHA. (he even smelled it from him xD)
And so, LONG TERM relationship-wise, Rin takes the cake for me. Can you just imagine them being together for years and Rin still smiles at Haru lovingly, going, "Oh, my husband? Yeah, he loves eating mackerel. Haha. That's just how he is. If you don't have mackerel to get my husband fed, please get out of my face. Thanks."
I also love how Rin is not afraid of hurting Haru, or breaking his walls down, if what he'll tell him/do to him would mold him into something GREAT. All for his betterment, really. For Haru to be the best version of himself, something he didn't exactly expect - or something he never considered, before Rin.
Because all this time, Haru thought he'd just be a normal person come his twenties/twenty years of age, and really? That's it? For someone as talented as he is in the sport that is clearly a part of him?
We know Haru would say things such as, "I only swim free. I just like being in the water..." but that's not at all true. Not anymore, at least. If you remember, in season 1 when he raced Rin again and he lost to him, where Rin said "I don't have to swim with you again. Ever." Haru had some sort of awakening inside of him. Sure, we later on found out that it was still not about winning or times, but at least it was more than just being in the water, moving forward. He explicitly said that "I want to swim with Rin" — all shipping talk aside, that was Haru basically admitting that it was not just about him being in the water anymore. He craved more. So it is safe to say that whatever influence Rin has over him it is something positive. Rin will always have the greatest impact on Haru's life, no matter if it's positive or negative (i.e. quitting swimming bc rin quit too - unbeknownst to haru, rin quit swimming bc he hit a wall back in australia tho!), there's no doubt about it.
(God, I love their dynamics.)
(Anyway.)
I know some would argue that Rin's being below the belt for pushing someone off-kilter like that, some might even accuse Rin of being selfish/pushy/toxic (meh he ain't), but jeez... That someone—Haru—thanked Rin for showing him something he'd never seen before, MANY TIMES, instead. He was just so grateful, man. The RinHaruRalia is one of the many proofs of that. It was not a smooth sail, for sure, it was rocky as heck... so many obstacles that Haru had to face, so many breakdowns and stuff like that, but HONESTLY THOUGH. Success is not something that was given to us just like that, it wasn't something that was handed to us on a silver platter... We fight for it, we cry and we break and sometimes even lose ourselves in between. But all that was part of the journey. And in the end, it was worth it. Who could've done that? If it wasn't for Rin; only if Rin didn't open his big mouth— But wait. Did Rin just really...give Haru some type of purpose...in life? Something to struggle and work for and train for, all because he really wanted it too, anyway? HUH. Just because he didn't consider it before (because hurray, no one ever gave him an idea except for someone who was miles away from him at the time), doesn't mean he really didn't want it in the first place :)
Rin just made him see the light, end of. Love that for them!!
Another thing, while I was watching I noticed how fond Rin was whenever Haru was simply being Haru. You know, his usual self. Like anything Haru did, Rin accepted no question. Oh, so Haru wanted to do this? Okay! Rin would be like yeah sure, because I know how you are, Haru, and I can jive with that. As long as I know you would be fine in the end, why not? He was never that friend who went, "Don't do that! Oh no, not that! Haru, stop!" even though Haru was basically doing something remotely...harmless? Just merely enjoying being himself??
Like, those are little things that one should be granting a friend. They were primitive things that could make Haru smile and happy, why can't you let him be? It's not like he'll hurt himself for real? And maybe Rin knows this, therefore he lets Haru be Haru, and that's so kakkoi of him, hands down. Makes for a healthy long term companionship, eh?
And to summarize, since my stomach is grumbling now and I haven't taken my lunch yet haha, these are just some of the keypoints as to why I think, personally (which means you don't have to agree with me, I'm not and will never force you to), Rin is GOOD for Haru. He spoils him, he tolerates him and at the same time accepts him for who he is/what he is, is never afraid to TELL HIM WHAT IT IS, speaks his mind around Haru, doesn't tiptoe around Haru, etc.
Anyone who's in a longtime friendship with someone, or anyone who is best friends with their partner/girlfriend/boyfriend must know how lucky they are to have someone who can easily bonk them right across the head, unafraid to get frank with them, if they're already being stupid. I myself know. Because they're being real to me—transparent with me. They never had to worry about being on my good side, because they know what their doing was only for my own good.
And you know why that is? Well, no other reason aside from they love me. They want to see me grow into my full potential, and I think that's... *insert any positive adjective here*. And for that, I would surely love them back, I won't even have to question it.
And that, my friend, is RIN to Haru. They are perfect for each other, best anchors of one another.

Why I can never watch Sing 2 again
It's not only because of a pairing, but also because llumination does poorly to make it not look like an imitation of other things we've seen before that has little charm or effect:
Before we're introduced to Crystal, Suki's thought of as an individual but after that no one acknowledges her, not even Jimmy (he says Jerry's name but not hers), the gorilla thugs (they could have beaten her up as well since she worked for the bad guy but just ignore her like everyone else) and none of the Moon gang acknowledge her (they don't say "thanks for saving Buster's life"). She's basically been given the whole "secretaries are props, not people" treatment even though she kickstarted the sequel's plot and proved to show potential. She could have just not followed them at the end.
After witnessing the kind of boss Suki has to work for, I can't say that I side with Buster and the gang's views on her in the beginning when they never change their mind about her afterwards. It feels like they're getting butthurt over one person's statement, and that person does not have the best boss. I need something canon to prove otherwise or I'll never be convinced. I need something that doesn't imply "Thanks for helping, now get the hell out of here, you stupid judgy bitch!"
Jerry's just a cheap generic knock-off of every Disney villain's sidekick ever that is so annoying he makes Smee look like a rocket scientist.
Meena is still a shy worry-wart and her crush on a nice guy subplot is generic as crud, and not to mention, Alfonso is just a gender-bent clone of her and a way of shoehorning in Illumination's golden boy Pharrell.
Klaus is just a discount neighsayer with little to no charm.
Darius: not even remotely charming.
What could have made the thugs a bit more likable is subverting the scary thugs trope for one scene with them having idle chit chat like normal people.
Jimmy Crystal: another angry dictator with an attractive woman he doesn't deserve and who doesn't tickle my funny bone.
Clay Calloway: Illumination's Doc Hudson.
Nooshy is just a lynx Esmeralda who's overconfident enough to sass the a-hole monkey teacher, and the whole fandom has to be all under the impression that she's "there I taught you to dance and am an appropriate companion because I'm funny and young now let's get each other laid", and I do not remotely ship them.
Porsha: every furry may be easily appealed by her being a wolf, her being Halsey, her being into vintage (which I'm also into), and her brash loudness and poor acting, but I'm not
The 'being yourself and achieving your dream goals' message is hammered in along with the implied symbolism that ugly is good (most of Moon's crew are cartoonish and funny-looking) and good-looking (that would be Jimmy Crystal, Suki Lane, Porsha, Linda Le Bon, and the gazelle receptionist) is bad. Seriously, why can't we just live in a world where both funny-looking and not-funny-looking are valued equally, like we have a model human married to a fucking cartoon rabbit?
Suki at first to show potential as a brilliant subversion of 'all critics are bad' or 'businesswomen aren't likable' or 'salukis are worthless' is going straight into the trash bin due to Meledandri's statement: Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri stated, "It will involve characters from the original cast, but it will take us into a new world. It means she's getting axed in favor of Mike, Eddie and the new characters instead of squeezing her in somehow. They literally could have given her a short explaining that she'll never have anything to do with them again, acknowledging the furries who like her and her design.
I cannot watch this when they don't even try to mask that it's an uncharming imitation of the Muppets (2011) and Dreamgirls that doesn't break enough rules.

"Universe denotes, etymologically, 'turned into one' . . . 'whole, indivisible.'" (Dictionary of Word Origins, John Ayto)
Yeah, you can probably guess what this one is about. And to think I told myself I was done with metas until S5. I blame you, @ktinaj (affectionate). But anyway *pours vodka* who wants to spiral some more about the Universe Theory?
(Quick PSA: I totally lied in an earlier post about when the mobile first showed up in Christopher's room. I thought it was in S3, but it's actually the second episode of S4. Which is even more bonkers.)
Let's start at the beginning. We will, of course, be operating completely under the assumption that this Universe Theory is legitimate and not a collective fandom-induced fever dream. Just humor me. Sorry this is long I can't brevity:
4.02 || The universe mobile appears first when Chris and Eddie are listening to Carla on the computer read them a book about invisible strings connecting people who love each other.
4.06 || Jinx is just a weird episode in general, regarding Eddie's character arc. In an episode about supernatural forces and control vs. powerlessness, it's extra interesting that this is when the writer's chose to kickstart Eddie's romantic arc.
"It's like the universe is screaming at you and you refuse to listen."
"The universe does not scream."
4.08 || So! Interesting! That the writers chose to kickstart Buck's romantic arc a literal! Episode! After Eddie's! And it continues so conspicuously into Breaking Point.
"Do you ever think you just need to be patient, wait for the universe to come to you? . . . Didn't think so."
"We all miss the signs now and then."
We get our next glimpse of Christopher's room in this episode, twice. First at the beginning, after Eddie's date, and again near the end, when Christopher has run away. Both times the universe mobile is in plain sight. Both times Christopher is wearing his universe-themed pajamas. In the first scene, Eddie and Christopher talk about his friend and Eddie is cagey as hell about it. In the second scene, Christopher tells Buck what a great friend he is, and Buck clearly is not in agreement with this sentiment.
4.10 || This is only distantly, distantly related to the universe theme, but I'm including it for the scene at the end with Eddie and Ana on the couch watching a movie, and Chris joins them, and he is not wearing universe pajamas. They are dinosaurs. How INCH resting
4.13 || We get yet another look into Christopher's room in this episode, with Eddie, Carla, and Christopher inside, and Ana eventually coming to stand in the doorway very much separate from them. There's a weird universe-esque poster that appears on the wall of Christopher's room in this scene. I say appear because it is literally non-existent before this episode. It's placement is important as it is specifically shown in the framing with Chris and Eddie.
Big thanks to @ktinaj for pointing this next one out and making me lose whatever sanity I had left. I can't believe I'm saying this, but after Ana comes into frame and whisks Eddie away, the camera pans up enough to show that - gasp - the universe mobile is in fact missing. Almost as if Ana isn't the missing piece of Christopher's universe, almost as if there is somebody else who has been hinted at fulfilling that role this whole season. Tim I am looking through your window.
4.14 || The next scene we get of Christopher's room is Buck going to talk to him about Eddie getting shot. Buck standing in the doorway, Buck entering the room, Buck occupying Christopher's space with him with practiced familiarity. Nevermind that the universe mobile has suspiciously returned to its proper place and is put in frame. But the weird universe-esque poster that popped up in the previous episode is still on the wall, only it's been moved to a different location so it can share the frame with Buck and Christopher. I mean what kind of bullshit —
And of course, the scene with Christopher waking Buck up on the couch, wearing that damn universe pajama shirt.
Is this a meta or just a bizarre preponderance of evidence? Idk. Either way, I'm not saying I'm not crazy, I'm just saying I picked up on this and other people picked up on this and for all the little mistakes TV shows are prone to make (9-1-1 in all its brilliance is far from perfect) . . . this is just difficult for me to wrap my head around. I know we essentially circulate the same dumbfounded posts around because we're all still in shock . . . but that should say something in and of itself.
Oh well *pours more vodka* until my sweet validation I will just be sitting here like

How is Zoe's comic racist? (sorry don't mean to question you, genuinely curious) Also, I admit I was also sucked into the salt fic whirlpool, but quickly left after I realized how toxic it was being. Could you also elaborate on GalahadWilder, if it isn't too uncomfortable for you? I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude, or ask uncomfortable questions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can’t point out everything off the top of my head but the racism (along with everything else but that’s not the focus) is a large part of what made me throw my hands up and write this. And I won’t be answering any more asks about any of this because I just want to get it out there so people know (because of how many people genuinely don’t see it) and then go back to trying to forget that this shit ever existed, rather than dragging out some new fandom drama. Also keep in mind that while I’m West Asian/Arab, I’m also white-passing so if I get anything wrong, I appreciate call-outs. (Also I finally got my laptop charger today so I can snip my posts again 😭)
Her treatment of Max in ‘Gamer’.
It’s not unique to her; it’s a very common salter thing to utterly tear into Max for being a “sexist jerk” and daring to underestimate princess Marinette because she’s a girl. Never mind that they canonically aren’t close friends because of Chloé’s bullying, so Max probably had no idea that Marinette’s liked video games all this time, where Adrien is the new boy so it’s just one more thing to learn about him.
It’s especially heinous compared to how the other classmates are treated far more leniently for their own mistakes - they still get salted on but Max, aka the Black boy, always seems to get singled out and held to higher standards. Just look at ‘Chameleon’ and how the other classmates are mildly to moderately attacked by salters but Max gets utterly ripped to shreds because he “should know better”. (Never mind that just because he’s smart doesn’t mean he’s good at human interaction. They just want to attack him).
It also angers me because people like Nathaniel and Ivan are absolved of what they do as akumas (like kidnapping others and literally forcing someone to go on a date with them) because they couldn’t help it, yet Max is literally held responsible for what he did when akumatised (because he dared to go after Princess Marinette) and even for daring to get akumatised in the first place. Both these things just make him a sore loser, apparently.
So SL ‘Gamer’ was the final straw for me, especially with how she characterised Max as a smug arsehole, and it made me so angry that I just exploded to my friends, but I didn’t know how to directly call it out without looking like a petty bitch.
Here’s a post I made about salters and ‘Gamer’ if you’re interested in a more coherent and in-depth thing about it.
Alya’s treatment throughout the whole thing.
In canon, she’s an enthusiastic and passionate girl who sometimes gets carried away and goes too far and who idolises Ladybug because Ladybug stands against evil. Here? She’s treated as the butt of the joke for being so starry-eyed over superheroes that she idolises Scarlet Lady while Marinette mocks her behind her back. Never mind her iconic line of “all that is needed for the triumph of evil is that good people do nothing” and this is why she loves Majestia in the first place. Never mind that she loves Ladybug because Ladybug is kind and passionate and strong and creative. Canon Alya wouldn’t want a bar of Scarlet Lady, who just sits around complaining, and yet SL!Alya worships her because...why? Running joke? The only Black girl in the series is treated as a gag to be made fun of by someone who’s supposed to be her best friend, just for the audience’s amusement. Marinette’s probably meant to look funny and relatable here, but she just looks like a major bitch to her new friend. Alya’s flaws are basically blown up and exaggerated for comedic effect, while Marinette in contrast is airbrushed to perfection, with no flaws and no anxiety that was only alleviated in canon by - guess what - being Ladybug.
It’s like Zoe wants to stick to canon while adding her own little “fun” twists for humour, like making Marinette snarky and perfect (which just makes her look like an utter bitch) and in the case of Alya, it does her so dirty that even Lila is more sympathetic. LILA. After SL humiliates Lila, Alya looks doubtful but buys some bullshit excuse so that she can continue to be the Scar-worshipping idiot. And then in the aftermath, her concern isn’t for Lila, the girl who was humiliated and bullied by a literal superhero and then ended up sick. No, she’s angry because...Lila lied on her blog. The blog that doesn’t have nearly as much recognition as in canon because SL would never validate her, unlike Ladybug. So her passion for her blog is exaggerated to imply that she’d say that a girl deserves to be bullied and sick because she told a few lies (since at this point, Alya doesn’t know about any possible malice on Lila’s part, just as in canon. All that’s known is the lying for attention).
It’s horrible hypocrisy, where Alya is held to higher standards than the other (white) characters and when she fails to meet those standards, she’s torn into. She’s not afforded any sympathy for being hurt that Lila lied to her; in fact, she’s demonised for feeling hurt, especially because of the running joke that her blog is focused on someone so horrible and she doesn’t see that. Lila is presented as the sympathetic one here. LILA. Just because Alya dared to believe her in canon.
Also, how she’s constantly trying to either tease Marinette for having a crush or insist that Marinette’s only doing what she does because of a crush...even though according to this ‘verse’s canon, Marinette is too good to make mistakes and do obsessive stuff over a crush, which is why canon Alya thinks this about her in the first place. That didn’t just come out of nowhere in the show purely for “woe is Marinette, her best friend doubts her”.
Like in the first part of ‘Gamer’, where she’s accusing Marinette of only entering the tournament to flirt with Adrien while Marinette so “coolly and calmly” rebuts her...why? By the ‘verse’s own logic, Marinette isn’t a flustered mess around Adrien. The only purpose of this scene is to glorify Marinette and her amazing calmness while making Alya look like a nosy idiot who dares to doubt her best friend. The logic of the ‘verse and of canon clash really jarringly in moments like this, and it becomes clear that the only purpose of these moments is to make Marinette look better at the expense of others. Most often her best friend, who’s an utter idiot for not seeing Scarlet Lady’s true nature and just can’t keep her nose out of Marinette’s business and so comes to wrong conclusions. Why are Marinette and Alya even friends in this ‘verse? SL!Marinette’s been nothing but condescending towards Alya most of the time.
Uh, and also the way she occasionally whitewashes Alya. Just look at the SL headers. She literally made Alya, aka a Black girl who’s one of the good guys, lighter than Lila, aka a white girl who’s one of the bad guys and not even that tanned in canon. Why do people make one of the villains darker and often whitewash one of the heroes? It’s not that hard to figure out.
(Also the way she really played into the aggressive Black girl stereotype in ‘Horrificator’ over a minor argument, even physically threatening Nino. Why? Literally why did she have to go full-on aggressive instead of just looking angry and scolding him or something?)
This all might not be conscious on Zoe’s part but the way Alya is treated is still disgusting, especially if you’re operating on internalised salt from other aspects of the salty fandom. I’ve seen her claims that she’s trying to help Alya improve and she’s not being salty but...even if she’s not being consciously salty, her salt is definitely still leaking over it and part of that salt includes racism. I also don’t see how making Alya a joke and exaggerating her flaws is helping her to improve when there was plenty to go off in canon but, well, that might just be me.
Even Marinette, who’s pretty much treated as white for 99% of it.
Marinette, aka the girl who’s only made visibly “Asian/Other” in SL ‘Reflekta’ with her Chinese-inspired Black Cat suit and name which is a one-off, while her permanent Bee outfit is just the bland tight suit that salters criticise Ladybug for having and her name is just Marigold. It comes across as using “Asianness” as a costume and it really didn’t sit right with me at first, but it took me a while to tease out why exactly this made me feel ick.
There’s nothing wrong with touching more on Marinette’s heritage and expanding on it in ways that the show doesn’t, especially because this is a big sticking point for salters, but again...it’s only a one-off. A costume. There aren’t casual hints sprinkled throughout the comic that just normally establish Marinette as half-Chinese, aside from like a page or two in ‘Timebreaker’ showing Sabine’s outfit. It’s another ‘Kung Food’ where it’s slammed into one episode and shoved into our faces that Marinette Is Chinese and it’s really jarring and unpleasant.
It just comes across as fetishising, is all. I don’t think it’s something most people would pick up on unless they’re used to being able to see this kind of thing.
Master Fu. Oh, Master Fu.
From an old man who made mistakes but tried as best as he could with the limited knowledge he had, he’s now a bumbling idiot who...put the earrings in Marinette’s bag instead of her room for some reason? To kickstart the plot? Especially because the ring was still in Adrien’s room. It’s very, very contrived.
And then in one of the most recent updates, Zoe has Adrien - a white boy - physically threaten Fu, aka an elderly Asian man. It’s disgusting. I was gobsmacked when I first saw it. And that’s the thing with salters: they tear into Adrien for being a white boy so they can look Enlightened when he hasn’t actually done anything racist, yet they then turn around and perpetuate actual racism in trying to “fix” him
There’s probably more but those are the examples that jump out at me of the racism in SL. There are plenty more problems but...whatever. I’ll be here all day if I try and cover those.
As for the Galahad thing...it’s personal. That original post was as much as I was comfortable revealing.

god I'm tired of CR fandom twitter today. People just always seem to have to find something to criticise, even right now when there's so many better targets for their anger. Tell me this, if I block the person who was being a particularly big headache under the tweet about CR not broadcasting this week (I think you know who I mean?), would I be doing myself a favour for avoiding this kind of shit in the future? I.e. are they always Like This?
I realize what I say under the cut could possibly be misconstrued as personal attacks against this person, and thus I am putting it under a readmore and as I said in my tags, I will NOT be naming names or showing screenshots. Everything is easily find-able if you really want to research. As always, you never have to take my word for anything. Twitter has a search function.
ALSO. NONE of what I say here in context of what this person does or said today specifically has anything at all to do with any POC and specifically Black people who have the valid opinion that CR can and should do better. Nobody will agree on how best white creators can help a situation at any given time and it is not my place as a white person to police that shit.
This person is a white dude, and I will absolutely police his shit.
He is literally always like this. He hijacks and abuses real world problems for his vendetta against CR and the individuals who made it. He seems to think they are multimillionaire corporate shills (likely because of the Kickstarter, though people have told him over and over how that money actually works). He is constantly talking over POC, like today when he spoke over a Black person underneath the CR schedule update.
Other POC in his mentions have also subtweeted about how he’s been suspiciously racist before, but I don’t have the details on that. I’m inclined to believe them, though. He had no problem abusing the very real concern about colorism in this fandom in order to pivot the conversation back to how CR itself (and not the individuals in the fandom that were actually responsible) is somehow oppressing him and his friends specifically.
This is not the first important movement he’s tried to corrupt and it will not be the last - though, I have to say, this is the first time I’ve seen him get shut up so quickly and without any of his buddies to back him up.
As a note, however, I would like to point out that a lot of his hatred comes from a very real place. Gay men specifically were traumatized, and one (probably more than one lets be real) harassed endlessly, by what went down in the Fjorester discord. He absolutely will always land on this if you manage to get past all his other ammunition, and you will lose here because what happened was truly reprehensible.
However, and I say this as a member of the queer community, he is WRONG about how he continues to steal clout from other movements he clearly doesn’t give two shits about and he is WRONG for not holding the actual people accountable and he is WRONG for speaking over Black people - not especially right now, I mean always. White queers NEVER have the ‘go ahead’ to speak over BiPOC just because we’re queer.
Yes, sometimes he speaks with Black people who call for CR to do better. Nobody who calls this guy out is saying that all of his tweets are Wrong or Bad. He paints himself as a good ally and he does it well most of the time. But - he tipped his hand tonight and I think it might take him awhile to recover before we see it happen again.

I'm literally begging you to spill the tea on b*tch h*rtman why does everyone hate him
Me?? You're leaving this responsibility to Me?? Oof.
Aight.
Season 3 bad
Butch is very much an ideas person. After Steve Marmel left the show just went downhill. There was one writer that wanted it to go the grey ghost angle and another who wanted amethyst ocean and it just didn't work and then it got cancelled so the end relationship was so rushed it was terrible.
Changed the lore of his show half way through
So this is mostly Nick's fault, they thought the show being about ghosts was too gritty and they agreed to change it from being about real dead people who were once alive to monsters from another dimension. This is the change that Steve marmel was fired over iirc. Now we have ghost tornados. You can't just change lore like that half way through. Some people think that because he was born again midway through dp that he wanted this change to the lore so the dp universe wouldn't go against the bible's teachings. We don't know that for sure though.
Like JK Rowling returning with needless headcanons except they're not even an attempt at rep it's just "Jazz replaced her life and ambitions with being a lonely woman in a chair, while Maddie becomes a ghost pimp and Jack replaced half his body with robotics."
Remember how he destroyed Vlads character in PP? He still does it. It's like he doesn't remember his own show. In a 10 years later video, Jazz is completely out of character and the family is just okay with Maddie walking around with ghost slaves on leashes. The Fentons are genius' in their own right. And he's reduced them to Danny's sidekicks.
Doesn't appreciate his employees
See these quote tweets when fop was given a reboot he toasted to himself and God while surrounded by the artists that massively helped him to make the show.
Voted trump
He apparently regrets it but still follows trumps family and a collection of far right people
Transphobic
In 107 facts about Danny Phantom fact 94 at 17:00 sticks out like a sore thumb. At the time, trans Danny theories were making the rounds on Tumblr. He'd already denied it was true. A lot of the theories draw Danny in his swimwear because his vest looks a lot like a full length binder and he's the only guy at the pool not showing his chest. The fact states he's said before that it's because of sunburns. It was in an audio interview a while ago where the interviewer suggested that that could be the reason and he decided it was canon then and there. It wasn't true while the show was being made. It's a question of if it's a coincidence that this video was released around peak trans Danny theory time.
There's also this screenshot of a deleted tweet that he never apologised for.
And the episode of fop with reversed gender roles treats men doing traditionally feminine things as a big joke.
Evoked ship wars that made fandom a space for arguements and anger
To summarise, he had a blog platform where people would post art. Most ship stuff was amethyst ocean and then p*mpus p*p existed, he scolded people not because it's an underage ship but because it made him look bad. People responded saying he was just homophobic. It split the phandom in half.
Tumblr media
This shows recounts of the war
And this is a summary
Oaxis scam
Oaxis was a family friendly streaming service that he started a Kickstarter for. Here's a good post that went around at the time that talks about it. In the end he surpassed his goal last minute thanks to thousands of dollars donated suddenly by Christians and Churches.
People who didn't realise what they invested in were unable to get their money back and are still waiting for their promised cameos in original shows according to high tier rewards.
The 'family friendly network' (that was all the info given) was actually going to be a Christian streaming service combining Netflix and YouTube. You can upload your own content or stream original content. If the content you upload isn't Christian Approved(tm) then real people would take down the video.
Here's a video of when he went around speaking to churches and actually explaining his thoughts and goals with Oaxis. Hes also disrespectful of mental illness in this video, claiming that violent media is to blame.
Big headed
He's just so full of himself, I watched 1 of his shows, that wasn't my whole childhood. Most animators draw themselves jokingly and then he is very flattering towards himself. He changed his name from Elmer to Butch I mean what more do you need. He thinks God put him on Earth to spread the Lords message via his media following.
He made some of those racist Ugandan knuckles memes
He did edit a video of people doing a racist Ugandan impression, I can't find it I think he deleted it without an apology. I did find this though.
He steals tweets from people
A dp meme page he follows
This even has the exact same tv photo
Then this was followed by this
Refuses to take criticism
He thinks that people call him out because they're trying to take him down.
He only accepts critique from people who have similar accomplishments to himself
'Jokingly' blamed Tara Strong for her best friends suicide
Tara was friends with Mary who previously voiced Timmy Turner, here Elmer says that Mary killed herself because Tara replaced her.
Supports the idea that autism can be cured
He and his wife held a seminar with a collection of people who had mental or physical illnesses that they believed were cured by God. One of them was someone who apparently used to be autistic but is all better now thanks to the Lord. Stuff like this supports the idea that autism is awful and needs to be cured, this is harmful to autistic people.
Doesn't pay his artists and uses friendship to get cheap labour
KurotheArtist collaborated with butch for a while, animating some of his videos and providing ideas and helping with scripts for ones like the draw my life story. Butch is in breach of contract and owes Kuro $1400 for his work on the ImagiNathan project that was later cancelled. Kuro made a video about this which also mentions the whole "curing autism with prayer" as his reason for finally talking about it publicly.
Was caught tracing someone else's art for a $200 commission
His commissions are a minimum of $100. Which is a lot, most of its just for the price of his signature at the bottom tbh. It's $200 for full colour. This video came out, overlaying a picture of the character he was payed to draw over the commission image. Even using an image reference, it lines up far too well.
