“Fuck!” You screamed out, stomping your foot. “Why can’t I just live with Lady Dimitrescu?”
You were growing angry. Rage boiled inside of you. You let out a loud, shrill scream and slammed your foot against the metal you were supposed to be moving around with your fucking mind.
“Shit!”
Another yell. You grabbed your foot and fell to the ground, rolling in the dirt for a minute.
“Get the fuck up.”
You stopped your rolling and your eyes shot towards Heisenberg. You stood up and glared at him. You crossed your arms and stepped closer to him.
“Girl,” Heisenberg growled, “You do not wanna do that.”
When you were first sent to live with Heisenberg, you were sure it was going to be hell, he was terrifying. But now, it was hell because he was being bossy.
“You’re lucky I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing. Otherwise... You’d be-”
“What? What would I be?
Your arms fell to your sides, your fingers digging into your palms. You screamed again and turned to stomp away from Heisenberg. His jacket rustled and you ignored it, thinking he was probably going to fuck around with his powers just to show off.
Show off, he did.
A piece of metal came flying towards your legs and wrapped around your shins, knocking you to the ground. A scared noise fell from your lips and you scratched at the ground, trying your best to stop whatever was happening. Once it registered that you were not about to get away, you let yourself slide towards Heisenberg.
The metal around your legs began to pull you upwards and you tensed. You truly had not expected to start fucking floating. The metal tightened as your moved higher into the air, thankfully Heisenberg seemed to not want to drop you.
“Oh, if only there were a way you could escape this.”
You swung your arm out and let out a strangled, stressed scream as he caught it. “Karl, let me down right now!”
Blood was starting to rush to your head. Heisenberg was deadpan, watching you struggle. He didn’t look comfortable, but he also was letting it happen. As you were leaning up, pulling at the metal, Heisenberg reached up to you, the metal falling and you dropping into his arms.
He quickly set you down and began to walk back to his factory. “C’mon, we’ll try again tomorrow.”
Tumblr media
You looked down at the metal and tried your best, really giving it your all, and moved your hand outward, towards it, but nothing happened.
“Karl,” you let out a soft whine, “I can’t do this.”
Karl came up from behind and sighed. You knew for sure he was about to pull some more bullshit, so you tensed. Karl’s face dropped, his eyes softening, but you couldn’t quite see that. You could, however, hear Karl sigh.
“We’re gonna try something different.” Karl stepped behind you and your body only tensed even more.
Karl placed his gloved hand on your bicep and slid it down your arm, causing your breath to catch in your throat. “Focus on the metal,” he brought your hand upwards and uncurled your fingers, which were digging into your palm. “Just think about moving it, it’ll come naturally.”
You nodded and relaxed into him, “Okay.”
Suddenly the metal moved. You gasped and practically ripped away from Karl, your excitement bubbling over. You turned and looked at him with wide eyes.
“I did it!”
“Told ya it wasn’t hard.”
You huffed at him, “You literally dragged me around the dirt yesterday, sir! Do not go talking about this bein’ easy!”
Karl snorted, “Whatever, girl,” his eyes rolled behind his sunglasses. “Now, we can get to the actual training.”
Tumblr media
You stood across from Karl, in the scrapyard, your fingers twitching at your sides. You were finally getting good at whatever the hell Miranda had “blessed” you with, and Karl was taking training up a notch.
The metal began to float around you causing you to feel a little anxiety. You brought your arms up, palms facing Karl, and you pushed some of the metal back towards him. As you did that, he snapped his fingers, effortlessly causing a piece of metal to fly at you. A short whine escaped you as it scraped your cheek.
Warmth ran down your cheek. Blood.
“Not fair!”
“Life isn’t fair, Kitten,” Karl smirked.
You blinked, and your hands fell down to your sides. Your entire body tensed and without even thinking, you caused the metal to shift around you. Every single piece, even the ones near Karl, hit the ground. Hard.
“That’a girl!”
Karl walked towards you and smiled proudly. Your stomach twisted and you swallowed hard. Something about that pet name, and the way he said it... He had your stomach in knots. You gave him a nervous smile and nodded.
“Thanks. I totally meant to do that.”
Karl laughed, “Let’s go inside, I think that’s enough for today. Anyway,” Karl brought his gloved hand to your cheek, “You’re bleeding. You need to clean that up.”
Without thinking, you swatted him away and leaned back from him. Karl, unbeknownst to you, was not a fan of that reaction. His face dropped, slightly, before he gave you a cocky grin once more.
The both of you walked in, and you knew you were going to have to deal with your new feelings, one way or another.
Tumblr media
It had been about a week since ‘the incident’ and you could not get the way he called you ‘kitten’ out of your head. He hadn’t said it since, he had barely gotten close to you unless he was training with you, and even then he kept his distance.
You had to find a way to relieve stress and you had to find one soon. Being a desperate woman, you decided, when there was a family meeting, you were going to find one of Alcina’s daughters and ask her for help.
And you did just that.
“Daniela,” You pulled her to the side and prayed that Karl wouldn’t find you, “I need help.”
“Ooooh~” She let out a laugh, or what you could only assume was a laugh, “what does the newest member of the family need?”
“Please keep quiet, this is important to keep between us, and only us.”
“Of course,” she grabbed your shoulder and smiled at you.
‘Maybe she’s trying to make me feel less scared?’ You thought. “Anyway...” You tried to shrug her hand away, “Look, do you ladies have any... toys. Just, like, around the castle?”
“Toys?” Daniela cocked her head, “I didn’t think you wanted to play with men?”
Your eyes widened, “No! Sex toys!” You hissed at her.
Her eyes lit up, “Oh! Of course. Follow me, my cute little pet.”
And just like that, you were completely set up to relieve your stress.
Tumblr media
Finding a secluded area was not the easiest. So many of Karl’s little experiments wandered around. But once you found it, you were ecstatic.
You were sprawled out on a small pallet you had made. You had surrounded yourself with some metal, a barrier between you and the creatures that could find you. Keeping it up was becoming a hassle, especially once you started feeling immense pleasure.
You had been messing around with yourself for a good half of the day. You had somehow convinced Karl to let you wander off and not work that day. He said he had things he needed to tend to, and let you go off on your own.
You were taking breaks in between sessions, but nothing was like the real thing. The vibrations of the toy were sending shockwaves through your body. You were getting close to the edge, toes curling, eyes rolling back, and body tensing. And, unlike all your other orgasms, you let out a loud whimper.
“Hey, girl-” Karl called out, obviously looking for you.
“Karl-” You moaned out, not registering Karl’s voice.
Something had come over you, you were completely wrecked by the thought of Karl having his way with you. To the point where you called out for him. And he most definitely heard you.
The metal dropped around you and you, suddenly, you were forced to face Karl. Once and for all. A scream ripped from your throat and you closed your legs, pulling your large, button up shirt, over your knees.
“Fuck!” You yelled, “I’m so sorry, I didn’t-”
“Damn,” Karl, being the extreme gentleman he was, noticed you weren’t entirely comfortable and covered his eyes. “If you needed some help you could have asked.”
“Karl!” You shouted throwing the sex toy to the side. Face burning, body trembling, mind filled with pure embarrassment, you just sat on the floor, “Shut up!”
Suddenly, you realized what he said. Your jaw dropped and your arms, that were wrapped around your legs, tensed.
“Last chance,” Karl smirked, eyes still hidden, “you obviously need-”
“Okay.”
That was all he needed to hear. His hand dropped from his face and he stalked towards you. Without a word, Karl leaned down, picked you, and tossed you over his shoulder. Letting out a small gasp, you hung down his back. One of his hands held you steady while the other rested on your ass.
The both of you reached his ‘room’, just an area with a mattress on the ground not as many experiments around. Karl placed you down on the mattress and leaned over you, he peeked over his sunglasses at you.
“You have no clue how long I’ve wanted this.”
Heisenberg’s mouth was the shell of your ear, his breath causing your body to react in the best way possible. He pulled back and stared you down, like a predator ready to devour their prey. Your knees knocked together and you were looking up at Heisenberg with big doe eyes. His large calloused hand grabbed one of your knees and he pulled your legs apart, gently.
“I was wondering where that shirt went...”
“Well, maybe if you had more shirts you wouldn’t have noticed.”
Karl chuckled, a rumble coming from his chest, and you felt like you had made some type of mistake, “Are you sure you wanna get that tone with me, kitten?”
“Yes...” It sounded more like a question than an answer, but the confidence was almost there.
“How are you so bratty, yet so cute?” Karl positioned himself between your legs.
You shrugged, unable to find words to say. Your brain was malfunctioning at the worst time. You had thought about this moment, even dreamed of it, and now there you sat, looking like some deer in headlights. You were vulnerable and so small compared to him.
“You sure you’re up for this, kitten? You’re looking a little-”
“I’m good!” Your voice cracked, “You have no clue how much I’ve wanted this- you. I just kinda thought you... hated me.”
Karl cocked his head at you, “How? You’re fucking amazing. I thought you hated me, the way you tensed when we were training... I just assumed you were afraid.”
“Karl,” you spoke so calmly, as if you weren’t almost naked and completely vulnerable under him, “as I said before, you dragged me through the dirt with metal...”
“That was just tough love,” Karl smirked down at you, before his facial features softened, “I can make it up to you?”
You nodded, wondering what he had in mind.
“Lean back,” he moved down, positioning himself between your legs, his body keeping your legs from closing.
You complied of course, and leaned back for him. Your back hit the mattress and you let out a shaky sigh. Karl began to softly kiss up your thigh, his large hands pulling your legs further apart. Your hands gripped at the bare mattress below you and you arched into Karl’s mouth.
Once he reached your cunt, you let out a soft moan, waiting for more. One of Karl’s hands gripped at your hip, while the other pulled your shirt up further. His hand quickly moved from your shirt and to your bare ass.
“I promise, I’ll be gentle,” Karl murmured right before his tongue licked a stripe up your pussy.
You gasped. God, it was everything you had imagined, and better. His tongue quickly found your clit and he sucked at it, briefly, before getting back to your pussy.
You let out a soft hum of pleasure, your hands knocking his hat off and grabbing at his hair. You pulled at it and Karl immediately stopped.
“Girl,” his chest rumbled, and his eyes snapped up at you, “I don’t think you’re prepared for what that brings.”
You couldn’t answer, you were genuinely too in the moment to register anything but your own pleasure. And you were getting close to cumming. Your back arched, and your toes curled, once his lips met your throbbing pussy again.
“Karl,” your voice was loud, but not loud enough.
“Kitten, who’s making you feel this good?”
“You- You are!”
Your feet jerked, pulling you up on your tiptoes, and your back curved, causing your hips to push into Karl, letting his tongue go deeper.
“Karl! I’m- I’m gonna-” You were cut off, everything becoming too much.
You gasped loudly and the entire factory shifted and groaned. Your eyes screwed shut and your entire body tensed under him. Karl did not slow. You felt the metal around you beginning to move.
Your eyes snapped open, just in time for you to witness the metal starting to come to life around the two of you. You fell, your back colliding with the mattress once more, and the metal fell back down. The factory stopped creaking, the only noise now being your loud panting.
“Damn, girlie,” Karl brought his face up to yours, “you’re more powerful than I thought...”
Karl gave you a kiss, and you quickly deepened it. Your arms wrapped around his neck and held himself above you. Your legs wrapped around his waist and you softly mewled beneath him. Reluctantly, Karl pulled away and pressed his forehead to yours.
“How about-” he paused, thinking about his wording, “how about we take this shit over? Fuck everyone else. Me and you, kitten, that’s all that matters.”
You quickly answered, unsure if it was the fact he just ate your pussy, the love you felt for him, or your genuine hate for Mother Miranda. Or all of the above, “How about we fuck first? The vibrator just wasn’t doing it. We can think about world domination after sex.”
“I like the sound of that.”

Prompt 23 - Thirsty
“It’s the rivers, miss. With the toads in spawning season, the locals can’t fetch the water they need. Damned things are so aggressive, and there’s so many of ‘em, too.” They Hyurian woman is almost apologetic as she speaks, wringing her hands and looking off towards the gentle baddle of the stream. True to her words, a number of gigantoads have made it their spawning grounds, and while one or two might not be a problem, no one in the village can handle that many at once.
It wasn’t an unusual thing in Thanalan’s deserts. Small settlements popping up along the rivers, just people trying to make their way in the world away from the suffocating grasp of Ul’dah. But these are ordinary people with ordinary talents, not versed in combat or blessed with fortune. They can’t even afford to hire an adventurer to clean out monster infestations like this.
That’s why they’re always so glad to see a paladin. Royalty among adventures, who work not for the clinking of gil in their pockets, but for the sake of those who need it. This is what justice is to Orara: helping those who can’t help themselves, and protecting the weak from the strong. Even if, in this case, the strong is just a handful of really big toads.
The toads themselves are scarcely a both to someone at her level. Although they regard her with curiosity (and likely hunger) as she approaches, they barely even react until her blade cuts their flesh. Even when they do fight back, it’s nowhere near enough to compete with a trained paladin. Soon, the small town’s water supply is free of monsters once more, and they have a sizable stock of toad meat as well.
“I don’t know how we can ever repay you, paladin,” says the Hyurian woman, taking Orara’s hand in her own. There are tears in the corners of her eyes, but Orara just shakes her head.
“You don’t need to worry about that. It’s our duty to try and help each other where we can.”
“I only wish more folks thought like that, paladin.”
How long ago was that? Less than a year? It seemed like another lifetime, now.
Tumblr media
Orara stared into her drink, ruminating. It had only been two suns since a hole was blown into the side of the Free Company’s house and Ibe’ir escaped into the night, and the company was still in turmoil. Ganzeidin and Hastswys pulled on the reigns as best they could, but it seemed that everyone in the guild was shocked that one of their own could stoop so low.
“If anyone can steer us through this, ’s Ganze,” Hastswys said between tankards of ale. She was a lot less sober than Orara had ever seen her, and was presumably trying to get rid of the stress from the lookout. “Company’s important to him, y’know. To both of us. Father’s real proud, when it really took off. He’ll want to see it through.”
She’d looked over at Orara and smiled. “’M glad I thought to try and take ya in, Orara. Compared to most o’ the other folks in the company, yer just a lot more... whassa word...”
“Level-headed?” Orara tried. “Sensible?”
“Sounds about right. Quieter too. 'S a shame you’re a Lalafell, if you were a coupla fulms taller, then I’d-”
Hastswys got half a sentence in before the burning in Orara’s ears made her beg the woman to stop. The Roegadyn cackled, reaching for her tankard while Orara retreated back to hers.
“Something’s bothering me, though,” she said, feeling somewhat loose-lipped herself. “About the other night.”
“Oh? Whassat?”
It was more than one thing, actually. The timing of Ganzeidin’s arrival had been too perfect, especially considering Ibe’ir said their leader had contacted him and told him to check the house out. It was possible those two things were just a coincidence and a lie, but there was also the case of the arrow in Ganzeidin’s leg. Ibe’ir hadn’t been carrying his bow and arrow when they saw him enter the house. Hastswys’s expression began to harden as Orara spoke, before she finally responded in a low voice.
“Are you sayin’ my brother set this all up?” There was something of a threat in her voice, something that made Orara try to deflect.
“No, no. I’m saying it’s just odd.” Orara had expected some resistance, but to her surprise, Hastswys was quiet for a time.
“I was thinkin’ about the arrow thing too,” she muttered, staring into her drink. “But it don’t make no sense. Ganzeidin’s been workin’ harder’n anyone to make sure this Company stays alive. If he wanted out, he coulda left any time.”
“But then it would’ve been without money.”
“Fuckin’ hells,” said Hastswys, dragging her hands down her face. “It does kinda make sense.”
“I’m sorry, it’s just- it’s about justice. I can’t just let these things go.”
Hastswys peeked at Orara through her fingers. “’S about what?”
“I- oh. Nothing.” Orara retreated back to her own mug.
The pair sat in relative silence for a few minutes before Hatswys finally spoke. “We should go an’ talk to him.”
Orara coughed on her drink. “Right now?”
“Yeah. While we’re thinkin’ about it.”
“But we ain’t- I mean, we’re not really-”
“I know. But if I don’t get this outta my head I’m not gonna be able t’ sleep tonight. So c’mon.” Hastswys stood up and- to Orara’s horror- lifted the Lalafell out of her seat.
“What the- put me down!” cried Orara, kicking against the woman’s grip. It was terrifying to be reminded that you were so small compared to nearly everyone else.
“Oof, Orara, yer way heavier’n I thought you’d be,” said Hastswys, staggering from the tavern. “Whadd’re you eatin’?”
“Then fuckin’ let me go!” she shouted, still squirming.
“Yanno, that’s the first time I think I ever heard y’curse!” laughed Hastswys.
“Aye, and you’ll hear a lot more if you don’t put me down!”
“Alright, alright,” said Hastswys. She knelt to place Orara back on solid ground, where she earned a slap across the face for her troubles.
“Hells whassat for?” said Hastswys, placing a hand over her cheek.
“Do that again and I’m usin’ the butt of my gun next time!” shouted Orara, finger thrust out. “Now c’mon. Let’s go find Ganzeidin before we sober up.” She began to walk away, only slightly wobbly.
“Ah, y'got a fire in you, lass!” said Hastswys, rising to her feet. “I like it. ‘S like good drink, leaves y’wantin’ more.”
“Keep it to yourself,” Orara grumbled. Hopefully they’d sober up on the way back to Mist; this was a side of Hastswys she was not fond of.

Long Road Ahead (Chapter Five)
Tumblr media
Estelle Finley has been friends with Ashton Irwin and Luke Hemmings for three years. When the boys bring her along on a jam-packed road trip to Cape Cod with the rest of the band, their adventures are just beginning. Through long hours driving, exploring cities, and hidden secrets, something more is bound to happen on this journey. How will this road trip change Estelle’s friendship with the friends she’s come to love so dearly?
Word Count: 3,400
{Chapter One} {Chapter Two} {Chapter Three} {Chapter Four}
“Dude, get your ass up!” Calum said, hitting me in the face with his pillow.
I groaned, slowly opening my eyes. He gave me a big smile and then proceeded to hit me again.
“You’re ungodly annoying in the mornings,” I said, glaring at him.
“And you’re making us late!” Crystal called from the hallway.
“What’s she talking about exactly?” I asked while getting up.
“Luke, we’re dropping the girls off at the spa before we head out. Your alarm went off two hours ago,” Calum said, grabbing a couple things.
“Right. Sorry. I’ll be down in two,” I called after him as he walked out of our room.
I pulled on some shorts and a workout shirt.
“Shit, you um, you left the door open. I didn’t. Um. I’ll just head downstairs,” I heard Estelle’s voice from the doorway.
I stopped midway during pulling my shirt over my chest. Estelle had come down to talk and I was here changing with the door open.
“Wait up!” I called, grabbing my bag and shoes before going to meet her.
There was a blush over her cheeks when I met her on the stairs. We had seen each other in swimsuits, but I guess catching me changing was different.
“Um, morning,” she said quietly, looking away from me.
“Morning,” I said, watching her bite her lip.
She only ever did that around guys she liked. My heart picked up as we continued walking.
“Thanks for taking us to the spa,” she said, giving me a small smile.
“Yeah of course,” I responded, noticing how she was a little closer to me than usual. Taking them hadn’t even been my idea, but if it meant that Estelle would be a little closer to me, I’d take it.
“Um, thank you for the picks by the way,” I said, heading towards the door.
I sat down to quickly tie up my shoes before standing back up. I hadn’t noticed the height difference between us before. I didn’t tower over her, but there was enough that she had to look up at me.
“You’re welcome,” she said, standing by me.
It was awkward between us, some of the residual tension from our fight still present. It felt like Estelle was holding back from being herself around me. I understood her hesitation, but it wasn’t usually like this after we fought. Estelle and I went back to normal, made up, and then it was forgotten. She probably doesn’t know how to act now that our feelings are out. I held the door open for her, catching the smell of her perfume. The citrus scent catching in my nose and making me feel at home. We needed to talk about what all of this meant and the whole Calum thing. It needed to be soon too because I can’t handle the tiptoeing around each other for much longer.
“Since you were dragging on this morning, you lost shotgun rights,” Calum said, giving me a wink.
I rolled my eyes at him and flipped him off. He was such a dick in the mornings.
“You all know that I’m not a morning person,” I said, opening the door and getting in the car.
I felt Estelle’s presence next to me. It was like we were magnets that were being drawn to each other. Her hand was resting on the empty seat between us and I wanted to reach over to hold her hand like it was a part of my nature. I had spent the whole ride in my own head that I hadn’t realized that we were at the spa.
“Have fun at the park!” Estelle called before closing the door.
“Dude, are you gonna get in the passenger seat or what? Because I am not playing chauffeur today,” Calum asked once both of the girls were gone and we were left idling on the curb.
“Right, sorry,” I said, quickly moving to sit in the passenger seat.
“What’s up with you?” he asked, putting the park address into the GPS.
“Nothing Cal,” I lied, adding some songs to a playlist while I waited.
“Try again,” he chided, glaring at me.
I sighed and took the aux from him.
“Estelle and I are in a phase so it’s a little awkward between us,” I admitted, smiling at the opening of “Carry On My Wayward Son”.
“Because she told you how she felt or because she told you about what happened between us?” he asked, turning the volume down.
Clearly, Calum was determined to talk about this. I was a little shocked by his words, but he was right. I needed to at least get what was in my head out.
“Honestly, both. I know that I don’t have any grounds to be upset about her hooking up with you, but it just feels like I wasn’t good enough for her to realize her feelings for me without almost having sex with you,” I confessed, feeling the weight of my stress lifted off my shoulders.
“You’re right though. You don’t have the right to be mad at her for hooking up with me. That doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to have feelings,” he said, glancing over at me a bit.
It took me a minute to process what he was saying.
“Yeah I know, but we weren’t together when it happened,” I explained, playing with my necklace.
“So? You were dating some girl that was a hoe. Don’t blame yourself for Estelle’s choices. Now, why are you guys being weird? Both of you have feelings for each other. What’s stopping you two from getting together?” he asked.
“Because I was a dick to her after she told me and I don’t want to take the risk of ruining our friendship,” I said, looking out the window.
The city had faded, leaving open roads and blue sky. There wasn’t anything on the side of the road, but it was still nice to look at.
“What do you mean you were a dick?” Calum asked, confusion in his tone.
I sighed, remembering how I was rude to Estelle at the arch.
“No. I still do.”
I glared at her, anger boiling under my skin. How could she just expect me to forget what she said by telling me what I wanted to hear?
“Oh so, because you still have feelings for me, it’s supposed to make me forget that you basically fucked my best friend? That’s not how life works Estelle. Your daddy can’t get you a free pass on this one,” I almost yelled, letting the anger take over.
I walked away, leaving her there alone. I drove off, not thinking about how Estelle would get back or how she felt.
“Is that why Ashton yelled at you that night after he brought her back?” he asked, pulling into a parking lot.
“Yeah. He stayed in Estelle’s room that night too,” I said, getting out of the car.
“Did you apologize to her at all?” Calum asked while getting his bag out.
“Not yet. Well not completely. I said sorry before we left St. Louis,” I said, putting my sunglasses on.
“No wonder she’s being weird. You left her at the fucking arch with no way of getting back,” he said, pushing my shoulder.
“I know Cal. I know that I messed up and there’s no reason that she should forgive me, but I am stupidly in love with her,” I said, following him onto the trail.
“Well, you better tell her that, not me. You should also mention that you were a dick and apologize,” he said.
Calum had a point and I knew the moment I got back, I had to at least try to talk to Estelle.
                                                       ➢➢➢
It was four o’clock by the time I looked at my watch.
“Cal! We’re gonna be late for dinner if we don’t head out,” I called over to him.
He was sitting on an outlook cliff, snapping pictures to show his mom.
“You’re right. Let’s go,” he replied, getting up and walking over to me.
We drove back and got there with a half hour to spare.
“Please tell me that you two are gonna shower before we leave for dinner,” Crystal said when we walked into the house.
“Going right now,” Calum said, already heading up the stairs.
“Luke, get your ass up those stairs too!” Crystal said, pointing up.
“Going! Calm down,” I said, taking the steps two-by-two.
I came back down after ten minutes, hair still wet. Ashton whistled, making me roll my eyes.
“Not you Hemmings. Essie, you look absolutely stunning,” he said.
I turned around, seeing Estelle with her hair curled and a white dress. She looked beautiful. My heart basically stopped at the sight of her.
“You do look good,” I said, taking in the way she looked effortlessly beautiful.
“Thank you,” she said, blushing slightly.
Ashton moved in front of me, offering his arm for her to take. She smiled up at him and I felt jealous of the way she was so carefree around him. What happened to her being that way around me?
“And where’s the other third of our unstoppable trio?” she called, turning her head to meet my eyes.
I smiled at her, hoping that we could easily go back to normal. I linked my arm with hers, looking down at her. She flushed when our eyes met. In that moment, I wondered how it would be to take her out on an actual date.
“Let’s get eatin’!” Calum cheered as we walked out.
“Yes!” Ashton and I responded at the same time.
Estelle laughed between us, the sound reminding me of melodies. I helped Estelle into the car before crawling in next to her.
“How was your spa day Essie?” Ashton asked once we started driving.
“Really good. Crys and I got facials. Then I got a massage. It was very relaxing,” she said, a calm smile coming over her face.
Just from the way she was talking about it, I could tell that she was less stressed.
“How was the music store?” she asked, all of her attention on Ashton.
“Good. I got some vinyls and Mikey showed me some bands I should check out,” he said happily.
“That’s cool. I actually looked into that band you played on our run yesterday and they have some good songs,” she said quietly.
I pulled out my phone and started scrolling through my playlist called “Little Dove.” It was my way of tuning out and making sure that I still liked the songs that were on it.
“We’re here!” Michael said, bringing me back to the present.
I helped Estelle get out of the car so her heels wouldn’t make her trip.
“Thank you,” she said softly, the golden sun bringing out the blue in her hazel eyes.
It felt like I couldn’t take my eyes off of her. The time in the sun had given her a slight tan and the white dress was showing it off. Plus, her hair seemed to be lighter. She was gorgeous and deserved all the attention in the world.
“Estelle, you really do look marvelous tonight,” I said, watching her blush yet again.
“Thank you Luke,” she said with a big smile on her face.
The red lipstick accentuated her lips and all I could think about was how badly I wanted to kiss her.
“You look very handsome tonight,” she said, taking my arm as we walked towards the restaurant.
I looked down at my outfit, the black jeans and dark blue short-sleeved button down being something I just grabbed.
“Thanks little dove,” I said, giving her hand on my arm a gentle squeeze.
We sat down across from Michael and Crystal while Ashton and Calum sat at the heads of the table.
“What are you thinking about getting?” I asked quietly.
“The house field green salad sounds good. You?” she responded, pointing at it on the menu.
I saw a glint on her finger, making me look at her hand. There was a silver ring with a wave on her middle finger. My hand reached up unconsciously to play with my necklace.
“Oh um, the Asian pear salad. I really like the idea of dessert though,” I said, twirling the charm between my fingers.
“Oh my gosh I could go for some dessert. Do you wanna share the apple crumble?” she offered, looking up at me.
It felt like we were getting back to our normal, but there was a different energy between us now. Instead of just friendship, there was a slight romantic touch to everything.
“I would like that,” I said before tuning back into the conversation around the table.
I wasn’t completely paying attention to everything, still stuck with melodies and lyrics swimming in my head. Estelle’s hand came down onto my lower thigh suddenly. She was laughing about something that I had missed. She took my breath away yet again. Within a moment, it was gone. I remained quiet for most of dinner, not really having anything to add to the conversations happening between my friends.
“And here’s the apple crumble,” a waitress said, snapping me out of my thoughts.
“It looks delicious. Thank you so much,” Estelle said, giving her a giant smile.
Estelle offered me a spoon, dropping an eye in a wink. I laughed before taking it from her. We both took a spoonful of the crumble along with the salted caramel ice cream and whipped cream before clinking our spoons. It tasted better than it looked.
“Oh my god,” she almost moaned at the sweetness.
“It’s amazing,” I agreed, wanting to savor the taste.
“We made a good choice,” she said before taking another bite.
My best choice was falling in love with you.
I wanted to say it out loud, but I stopped myself, not wanting to ruin dinner by making a stupid comment that would in turn stop conversation.
                                                    ➢➢➢
I came back down after changing into joggers. I heard everyone’s voices outside and before joining them, I went to the kitchen. I grabbed an apple and caught Estelle sitting in the bay window. She had a book in her hands and the pale moonlight was casting a slight shadow over her face.
“Whatcha reading?” I asked, taking her attention away from the book.
“The Great Gatsby for the fourth time,” she said, looking up at me.
I sat down across from her, wanting to spend some alone time with her. She put her legs in my lap and looked out the window.
“Still obsessed with Daisy and Mr. Gatsby?” I asked, following her gaze out the window.
“More like their struggle to be in love,” she said, a coy smile on her face.
“Estelle, I need to apologize,” I blurted, surprising both of us.
“I’m guessing this is about that night at the arch?” she asked, putting her beaten copy of the book down.
“Yeah. I was an absolute dick to you. I left you there with no way of getting back and for no reason other than I didn’t like what you said. Then I gave you a shit excuse for a sorry and just expected you to forgive me,” I said, taking her hand in mine.
“Luke, you don’t have to-”
“There’s no good excuse to treat one of your best friends like shit,” I cut her off.
“Stop, listen to me. I’m not saying that it was a smart move or that I forgave you right away. You had every right to be mad at me. I was wrong to think that you would be able to get over the Calum thing so easily,” she said, squeezing my hand gently.
“It’s not like we were dating when it happened,” I said softly.
“He’s still your best friend and my delivery of the news wasn’t fantastic,” she said, trying to lighten the mood.
“And so are you,” I responded, moving a little closer to her.
“I’m sorry for not telling you sooner,” she whispered, playing with my fingers.
“And I’m sorry for leaving you,” I said, picking up her hand and looking at the ring she bought.
“We should talk about the other thing yeah?” she asked, resting her head on my shoulder.
I knew she was right, but I wasn’t sure what that meant for our friendship.
“Probably. What shall we talk about?” I asked, still looking at her ring.
“Why do you keep staring at it?” she laughed, grabbing my hand.
I twirled it around her finger before looking up at her.
“Because while I’m the moon, you are the tide. A connected process that the world would fall apart without. Without the moon, the tide would not exist. Without the tide, the moon would have no purpose,” I said, making eye contact with her.
I felt the shift between us happen, the exact moment the tension became romantic instead of angry or hurt. Estelle leaned into me, our close proximity making me glance at her lips.
“Little dove, when you said you have feelings for me, what did you mean?” I asked quietly.
I caught her eyes drift to look at my lips. Were we both thinking about kissing each other right now?
“I love you Lu,” she said, eyes looking back up at me.
Was I dreaming? Had Estelle really said that she loved me?
“Estelle, I-”
My phone started ringing, making me pull away from her. I checked the screen, seeing my mum’s name.
“Hi Mum,” I said, getting up and walking out to the front porch.
“Hi honey. I just wanted to check in,” she said, sounding a little out of breath.
“I’m all good. Actually on vacation for once. How are you?” I asked, taking a seat on the steps.
“Fantastic. I just finished up a workout. So, I have a reason for calling you so late,” she said, the background noise quieting down.
“Okay. What’s up?” I asked calmly despite my pulse picking up.
“I wanted you to thank Estelle for sending those flowers for my birthday,” she said happily.
My eyes went wide from the words.
“I can do that. I had no idea that she did that,” I said, playing with my necklace again.
“Yeah. She sent a beautiful bouquet of daisies over with a birthday card,” she explained.
I heard the smile in her voice and it struck a chord with me. Not only had she remembered my mum’s birthday, but she had gone the extra mile to send my mum something to celebrate. It made my heart swell.
“She’s a good one Luke. You should tie her down,” my mum teased.
I laughed, a giant smile on my face.
“She really is. I’ll do my best,” I said, looking over my shoulder to see Estelle was still sat at the window.
“You love her don’t you?” my mum asked, making my smile widen.
“Yeah Mum, I really do,” I replied, seeing Estelle look up at me.
“Then you should go tell her. I’ll talk to you later honey,” she said, her smile still in her voice.
“I love you Mum,” I said while getting up to head back inside.
“I love you too Luke,” she replied before hanging up.
I walked back into the house, going right back to the bay window. Estelle looked up at me with a soft smile playing across her lips.
“Everything okay?” she asked, closing her book again.
“You sent flowers to my mum for her birthday,” I blurted, making her laugh.
“Yeah. I thought she’d appreciate it,” she said with a shrug.
“She said thank you,” I said, feeling like I just needed to tell her how I felt.
“It was no big deal. I’m glad she liked them though,” she said, tucking her legs underneath each other.
“Estelle, I love you,” I said, the weight of my words lifting off my shoulders.
Her eyes lit up as she stood up to meet me. My thoughts were racing as we looked at each other. I wanted nothing more than to kiss her. The sound of fireworks made both of us jump. It was electric between us and it was as if we would spark with one small touch.
“Estelle, grab your camera!” Ashton yelled at us.
“Timing,” she said with a laugh.
I watched her walk away, leaving me standing by the window alone. Before she went outside, she turned and winked at me. I picked up my guitar that was by the window and started writing. I was inspired by the mutual love that had transpired and I would explode if I didn’t get this down.
OH BOY WE GOING PLACES HOMIES! Des literally yelled at me for not letting them kiss in this chapter and it was a beautiful moment. I hope you’re all enjoying!

Selma hummed pressing her ear very close to the phone to block out the hustle and bustle of the dinner. This was her only chance to hear his voice after several weeks. Having no phone she resorted to begging her boss to use the dinner’s.
“ Ma, I did it!”
“ Did what, hun?”
Using her spare hand she cupped her other ear. Growing slightly nervous as she was timed with this phone call as to not tie up the lines. This was in exchange for her break.
“ I shot it! That deer that was eatin’ outta our garden, I GOT ‘EM GOOD! Just like granpaw showed me. Memaw said he’d be proud of me saving the garden. I also got bit by a snake!”
“ Are you alright?!”
The child’s words alarmed her greatly. Eyes scanning the floors waiting for a response.
“ Yeah! Memaw patched me up and she showed me how to drain the bite.”
A wave of jealousy washed over her, she felt awful that she wasn’t able to be there to do that. Now she worried for more accidents. But she was grateful for her mother.
“ I also got burned on my arm ‘cause I tried to help in the kitchen. Memaw said she’d spank me for bein’ impatient, but said I was punished enough.---”
She shook her head, but soon was alerted by her boss bellowing and shooting a sharp glare toward her.
“ Selma get back to work now. You’re tyin’ up the line.”
Biting her bottom lip she listened to the child’s babble and rambles, then she forced herself to speak.
“ Mama has to go now, baby. I love yo---”
“ When will I see you again? And papa? When can I come home?”
The stress began to build up every time he inquired about the situation. There was no way this would happen anytime soon. Much to her despair things weren’t looking to well for the future right now.
“ I don’t know yet, baby. I’ll call you first thing when mama finds out.”
“ Can he call me?”
...
“ Baby, he ain’t got no phone and no matter how many times I tell him he won’t be gettin’ one. He’s a stubborn man.”
“ Bring him to the one you use!”
Closing her eyes she felt frustrated, the child meant well, but she couldn’t stand to break his heart. The excitement in his voice made matters worse.
“ I-I really gotta go-- I love you, hun.”
Hanging up the phone, she inhaled sharply and tried to leave all of her problems outside of the door to focus on work. Another waitress noticed Selma struggling and pipped up. “ Doll, why don’t you call it a night? I’ll take your last hour....go home and rest. You look stressed.”
She felt it...
“ R-really? Thank you.”
As much as she should’ve stayed she couldn’t stand it. She was barely maintaining herself at this point. Leaving was such a huge relief.
----
Huffing she began counting the small amount of money in her grasp. Payment from last weeks wages was less than before. It was heart breaking. She couldn’t find another job, due to her location and she couldn’t afford to lose her job at the diner. Irritated she wept, hands covering her face. She was drowning in her father’s father’s debts and needed to repair her inherited home before her son could come up. It’s been two months since she seen him. If she didn’t call him today, it would’ve been two weeks since she heard his voice.
She had no phones, couldn’t afford it. So she worked out a deal with her boss at the diner. Who would let her make a call every couple of weeks. Though the phone lines were terrible, always dropping calls.
Dallas, a large dog lied at her feet. Concerning brown hues locked on Selma. Soon she began nudging her head at her owner’s knee to be pet. With the notion she gently rubbed the puppy dog’s head. It was soothing and actually distracted her from sobbing.
Dumping the small amount of funds into a jar to collect with the rest. Slowly she was on the path, but she keeps finding road blocks along the way. Reaching into her apron pocket she pulled out a folded image. In sloppy hand writing it read “Jesse 4/5/73 - age 10″. Fingers traced the child’s face. This served as a reminder and aided her in achieving his return.
Eventually rising from her chair, she made Dallas and herself food. With what she had and the best that she could do. During doing so she remembered Drayton’s offer. Checking the clock she hoped he’d stay after six, assuming that was the time she’d reach that destination.
So she set out after dinner, leaving Dallas at home. By the time she reached Last Chance Gas Station it was pouring down hard. She was soaked instantly. The building awning gave her shelter. Knocking repeatedly she desperately hoped he’d be inside. After moments of waiting she nearly gave up till the door clicked and the handle turned.
“ W-we’re closed can’t ya read the----”
Drayton warned, until he noticed just who was standing before him. Thick brows rose, blinking for a moment, his eyes felt strange. To her it felt like he was looking right past her. As if he wasn’t mentally there.
“ I apologize for disturbin’ you, but I needed to speak with you.”
“ C-come come, come in. You’re all wet-- git outta this weather your gotta wind up catchin’ a damn cold out there. Have you lost your mind?”
Letting her inside, he was quick on his feet to obtain a towel. Shaking it off violently before wrapping it around her person.
“ T-thank you...”
Quietly she voiced and used the towel to rub against herself. Guiding her to the small bathroom, he expressed.
“ You can freshen up in the restroom if you need. I-I don’t have any clean clothes to offer. Not here.“
Nodding she went right inside where she began to ring out her dress and try to dry herself off. Getting ready to turn on his heel, Drayton noticed a piece of paper on the ground just before the door she entered. Bending over he snatched it up with two fingers. Waving the picture to air it off. It was slightly wet. Making his way to the front counter where he picked up his reading glasses and wore them. Reading the back before flipping it over to examine the photo itself. Thinking nothing much of the image, it must of belonged to her. No one else was in here expect her.
Noticing the door open he went to mention the photo, but she interrupted him.
“ You remember what we talked ‘bout last week. H-how you’d let me work here? Can I accept your offer now?”
“ I....’Course you can. I can’t pay ya too much, I’m strugglin’ here myself. The least I can do is give you little pay and provide you food.”
Nodding, she wanted to make it clear she was willing to take little instead of nothing and his kindness of offering food was a nice touch. She almost forgot to even go down to the market to shop.
“ I-I’ll take it! I’ll do anythin’!”
“ Money troubles?”
Hesitant to ask at first, but he came to that conclusion. Selma plopped down at the nearest booth. Seeming almost defeated.
“ Yes, ever since my pops passed away I’ve been left with family debts. I know you weren’t fond of Henry...but it’s been rough.”
Just mentioning her own father’s name, she recalled the exact day her father succumbed to a heart attack before her own child’s eyes.Jesse was so scared, she had to comfort the child while dealing with her father’s situation. It was too overwhelming.
“ Losin’ a family member is always hard. I....I am sorry for your loss.”
His words were comforting and the fact he refrained from any vulgar words about Henry meant a lot. Given how tough their past was. Drayton always seemed so collected. Resting her elbows on the table top she planted her chin on the palms of her hands. Across from her he decided to it. Letting out a sigh to follow.
“ You dropped this here photograph-- of Jesse. It must be yours I haven’t seen this photograph before.”
Hearing the child’s name escape his lips triggered her. Eyes widened in panic and her heart rate increased. There was this lump in her throat that made it difficult for her to swallow. As he extended the image she snatched it. Taken back by her actions he stared in confusion.
“ Who is Jesse?”
He curiously asked. Selma was entirely quick to dismiss the topic as she was not ready to talk about Jesse as her plans have fallen through. And to possibly jeopardize everything was frightening. The pressure just kept stacking on that she wouldn’t be able to take anymore of it. Noticing how tense she was Drayton tried to lighten the mood.
“ Heh, well he is a cute kid-- whoever he is. I am sorry I didn’t mean to intrude on your personal life.”
Reacting so coldly left a bitter taste in her mouth, she hated this. Though he responded rather calmly and apologized even. It was tearing her apart. But now was not the time to talk about it.
“ When can I start?”
The cook was studying her closely, squinting even. It was obvious he was picking up on her strange behavior and mannerisms. Usually she was easy to read, but tonight she seemed off.
“ Tomorrow, Noon-ish? Hows that sound?”
“ G-great! I might get here a little earlier. Thank you so much.”
Excusing herself from the booth she began to gather her things. Slipping the image back into her pocket. Now she’ll worry about it escaping on her walk.
“ You ain’t thinkin’ ‘bout goin’ back out there in that rain are ya?”
“ That’s how I got here.”
Waving his hands he refused to let her do so.
“ No, no, no you wait right here. Let me get my truck and I’ll take ya home.”
“ Oh, Drayton, you really don’t have to.”
Hanging up his apron he grabbed his keys and went out back to start his truck to pull up to the front of the building. From there he did in fact get his way as she climbed into the truck. On the drive to her home she was silent and severely conflicted. She wanted to confess, but she feared the outcome. She feared change and destruction of what small relationship she saved. Periodically he’d glance over towards her noticing her dejected expression. He wanted to speak, but all that could come out was nervous chuckles.
The trucks motion was very relaxing, she felt herself sway and become extremely tired. Fighting the urges to rest the whole ride was difficult. Finally she gave in and drifted to sleep leaning on the side of Drayton, he didn’t seem to pry her off him and she stayed that way the entire ride. Though he woke her once they arrived at her home. Drayton was unable to carry her, but he did make sure she made it into her house. Dallas eagerly awaited their entrance and she pranced. Hopping up onto Drayton causing him to get annoyed and tell her to get down. Selma sleepily followed his guidance, his hand wrapped around her arm bringing her to her bedroom. From there he pulled down her covers. Made her sit down on the bed before removing her shoes. Then he had her lie down on the bed, covering her up with the thicker blanket.
“ Get some rest.”
Calmly he whispered and she finally responded while under her sleepy haze.
“ G’night-- I love you Drayton.”
Then she was out like a light. Glancing back one last time before Drayton locked up and left.

Lotte let out a stressed groan and made her nine-button panel disappear. A wave of bitterness was hitting her extra hard today. Feeling her cheeks grow hot from embarrassment, the witch turned her head and hid her face.
“Lotte,” a hand gently squeezed her shoulder. MZD had a concerned look on his face.
Tumblr media
“Baby, what’s wrong? You never quit songs early.”
“I’m just...stressed,” Lotte felt her eyes water up, “Today’s been fucking awful, I’m not progressing in my Pop’n skills. In fact, I’ve gotten worse since last time! I feel stupid and...!”
She burst out into loud crying, causing MZD to jolt in shock. That was...a quick emotional escalation. He was frozen for a moment, unsure of what to do and not wanting to make the wrong move and get Lotte more upset.
Tumblr media
The god brought Lotte into a hug, gently rubbing her back as the witch still let out stressed cries.
“Jesus, babygirl, have you been bottling stuff up all day,” he asked, tightening his hug slightly, “It’s okay, it’s okay... Let the steam out and breathe...”
His right shoulder was damp now, but he didn’t care. pulling out some tissues, MZD gently wiped Lotte’s tears away and let her settle down to occasional sniffles.
“I told you not to let pressure build up like that,” he gently pet Lotte’s head, “...I didn’t know our matches were making you angry. I was just trying to help because I saw you struggling.”
“N-no, it’s,” Lotte huffed, “It’s just embarrassing! Do you even know how stupid I look when I can’t even do chords I used to be able to perfect?! Just, everything’s been a chore, MZD,” she hissed, “Nothing’s fun anymore!”
“Okay, you need to lay down,” MZD took the witch’s hand and walked her over to her bed. He got up with her and moved himself so he could hug Lotte to his chest.
“You’ve been trying to be strict with your practice again,” he spoke, “Lotte, if you don’t let yourself relax, you’re blocking your brain from actually taking in what you’re trying to learn. Has anything else been eatin’ at you?”
“...I just feel like everything’s been setting me off,” Lotte answered, “Trying to find my sister, failing a spell that I’m still feeling sick from... I’m just tired.”
Tumblr media
“Lotte,” MZD frowned, “Was that why I couldn’t see you, yesterday? Why do you keep stuff like that from me? ...You thought you were going to bug me if you asked for me, didn’t you?”
Lotte’s silence was all he needed to know. The god held her close and softly scratched the back of her head.
“Baby, you need to talk to me when this stuff happens. When you’re hurting and I don’t know about it, then find out, it makes me feel bad...”
“I’m sorry,” Lotte quietly apologized. MZD kissed her forehead and sighed.
“It’s okay. Just remember to let me help you, alright? I can tell you feel like your head’s gonna explode soon. Close your eyes. I’ll be right here.”
MZD’s frown came back after Lotte fell asleep in his arms. He hated when she did this. When he knew about a problem, he could hopefully fix it fast. But Lotte never liked to tell him anything, and it made him feel guilty when he felt like he should’ve saw the signs quicker. Communication needed to be better. He decided he’d talk with Lotte after she’s recovered from her nap. This problem would be worse the next time it happened, otherwise.

[all night - the vamps]
nct. jung jaehyun
last night’s craziness was just too much that some of it spilled onto the next morning
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was 3:16 am, and I was still wide awake. Outside, it was dark and foggy. Typical winter weather. In my mind, it was a mess of disorganized haywires - the type you wouldn't even bother yourself to fix anymore.
I try to convince myself that I couldn't fall asleep because of the stupid red bull and jet black cup of coffee I drank earlier.
But in reality, I knew I couldn't because of a new number sitting in my phone of a new guy that was waiting for me to text him first.
It all happened last night.
My group of friends and I normally were the bunch of quiet weirdos in the corner that you swore could talk to each other telepathically.
We were always laughing though, sometimes got in trouble, and went way back. All the way in middle school is where we all met and decided 'hey you're kinda cool, I'll stick with you'.
So when we were blasting music and singing obnoxiously last night? It came off as a bit of a shock to the kids that lived in the college street we raided.
It was just a whim honestly, I swear none of us were drunk or high then. In fact, we were all completely sober. Some crazy remnants still made me giggle.
We started the music at around 9pm, at first we just wanted to drive around, admiring the pretty buildings. The stereo's volume was on 26.
But then by our 6th round around the block, I was sitting on the window with my phone's flashlight on, singing obnoxiously to whatever song came on.
My friend, with her window down, conveniently had one of those echo mics and was singing to the top of her lungs despite not knowing half the lyrics.
The stereo's volume was on 99 and the bass boosters were switched on.
There were college kids playing tennis by the park then. It was almost 12am.
When the attractive group of guys came up to us, laughing, inviting us to a club party, we thought 'hey we're already getting crazy, why not go the extra mile and get drunk on a Tuesday night?’
Little did I know that that night would be a rollercoaster of emotions.
We got to the club around 1:30. All dressed up, I was feeling pretty and confident. That didn't normally happen. I wasn't the pretty one of the group.
Everything was a blur, How I was sick of dancing in the heels my friend lent me, so after a few minutes, I was the first in our group to trudge towards the bar barefoot.
I sat there watching them dance with a goofy smile on my face. We always talked about how we would all go completely crazy someday. Guess that was today. But then again maybe there were more and crazier days to come with them.
"You made it. So can I offer you a drink?" One of the guys that came up to us earlier in that attractive bunch? He was right next to me, looking more attractive as he was dressed up too.
"I'm Jaehyun. You and your friends are being hunted down by the police for the ruckus you guys made earlier, did you know that?"
Shit. I always thought how it was odd that nobody came out and screamed at us earlier for being a driving teen concert.
Guess they didn't bother and went straight to the police.
"There aren't any cameras around there, right?" I ask nervously. After a chuckle, Jaehyun merely shrugged innocently. He should know he lives there. I glared at him, knowing that he should know.
"Okay, fine. There are cameras. But the most you'll get is a night in jail." That rang in my ears, threatening to spill out in vomit. A night in jail? My parents will kill me.
Jaehyun seems to notice my distraught as he asks me again if I wanted a drink. "A cup of coffee will be fine. Black. And some red bull."
Now that doesn't sound at all appealing, but I figured if I was spending a night in jail, there was no way in hell I would fall asleep.
"You were quite interesting earlier, almost hanging out of the car window and flailing." He chuckles again, not really helping with my stress really.
"In Psychology you were like a mouse, spoke little next to nothing and there you were, all crazy." Did he say Psychology? So I had a class with him?
Great, so some of my other classmates recognize me too then. The quiet chick that went crazy that one night. They'll think I went high on PCP.
Really this information did nothing but add to my stress. Now I was on the verge of tears as I held my head in my hands, roughly scratching my hair. “Shit.”
Remember how I said it was gonna be a rollercoaster? And I haven’t even had any alcohol yet.
My mental breakdown seemed to catch Jaehyun's attention.
"Look if you're that stressed. My uncle's the head of this district's police..." He starts off.
"I can only ask him a few times, but I can ask him to waive you guys off." Sniffling, I looked up to him in broken hope. "Can you really?"
Next thing I know Jaehyun kisses my cheek and makes a call on his phone. As he was talking on the phone, I sat there like statue, mortified by the kiss. Did he normally kiss people he just met?
"I know, this'll be my last. At least for this semester. I know one of them, the one hanging off the window, yeah. Thanks, don't tell mom." After that, Jaehyun just looks back at me with a dimpled smile on his face.
"Now you won't have to worry about that anymore." He beamed. He was right, I didn't have to worry about that cause now, I had to worry about how much I owe him. And that kiss on my cheek, Jesus Christ.
I know how this worked, his favor wasn't for free.
"Your number." The phrase 'this'll be my last' particularly rang in my head, drowning me in guilt.
I was the only one whose face was caught outside the car, I could've turned myself in and not bother anyone, especially my friends.
"I said your number would make it up." Only then was I snapped out, when Jaehyun put a hand on my thigh. I flinched away from it. And he took the signal.
"If you give me your number we'll be even." Why did he want my number? Reluctantly, I gave it to him and he gave his. Not knowing where this was going I started to look for my friends in the crowd, to leave.
But before I stood up and actually leave, Jaehyun grabbed my wrist, the same dimpled smile on his face.
"I won't force you to talk to me, so I'll wait for your text first, okay? Just don't leave me hanging." He said and with that I walked away, grabbing all 3 of my drunk friends and driving us home.
His smile softened me a bit, with the two dimples that added an extra cuteness to his face. Darn he was cute.
When we got home, it was 2:48am. I got all the girls out of their clothes, forced them to shower and drink a full glass of water before doing so myself.
As I got out of the shower, I saw them giggling amongst themselves like teenagers, stopping when they saw me.
"What is it?" I walked up to them, drying my hair with my towel.
"When are you texting Jaehyun?" My best friend asked me excitedly as if she couldn't hold it in anymore. But her question honestly just reminded me about that incident. With Jaehyun.
"How do you know about that?" Brushing it off, it seems my attempt at changing the topic only made it worse. Now they started squealing while my best friend kept saying 'i told you so'.
"I told you he was into her! Why else would he go all the way around the car to ask us to his party. And through her! He was even leaning to her earlier." She said all in one breath, but not without emphasizing some specific parts.
It took me a while to realize what on earth she was talking about. And without my other friend's help, I wouldn't have.
"She's talking about how earlier Jaehyun and his friends were closer to the right side of the car and could've asked her if we wanted to go to the party because she had her window down. We all did.." I see my best friend nodding triumphantly.
"But he went all the way around the car to ask you on the other side and he was leaning in too. So we figured he liked you."
That's it? They were basing these assumptions out of that one small detail. Pssh.
"It's the small things that matter." They all tell me. Great, now I'm starting to believe it.
Just as I was about to delete his number and forget it ever happened too.
"Oh, let's all just go to sleep. We still have class tomorrow." I hurriedly downed a glass of water (but then remembering I didn't really drink tonight) and usher the girls into their rooms.
Now it was 3:16am and I was still wide awake. The past few hours felt like a dream. I held my heart and still felt the adrenaline of the party and us driving around college street with our volume maxed.
I held my phone in my hands, switched on and on Jaehyuns contact. Something in me wanted to see if he really wouldn't text me first like he said, but a bigger part was telling me to go and not leave the guy hanging.
Who am I kidding? He probably has a bunch of girls' numbers that's why he didn't want to text me first. Cause he was too busy with the others. I wouldn't be leaving him hanging.
But here I was, typing and erasing words in my phone repeatedly. A never-ending cycle. Again, a rollercoaster.

would you really not text me first even if you had my number?
My heart felt like it was stuck in my throat as I threw my phone to other side of my room. Only to stand up and pick it up as I hear the familiar ding of a new message.
received
honestly, I would have. but now I'm just glad you didn't leave me hanging.
A blush was creeping up my face as I read his text. He was glad I texted him.
sent
I never really said thank you for getting your uncle to waive us. so, thank you.
God, I felt so cringey and strange.
received
you're welcome. just don't do it again because that was my last favor from him probably and you could've gotten hurt hanging off the car window like that.
Now, I really felt strange. It was something I couldn't explain, like I felt lured so much into this Jaehyun I just met. I didn't even notice the smile on my face that came up since his first text.
sent
I'm sorry I took your last :( I'll make it up however I can.
received
you can make it up by eating out with me tomorrow after classes?
sent
sure, I'll pay for wherever you want to eat
received
as a date and I'll pay. it's only right that I should
There it was again, the feeling where it felt like my heart was stuck in my throat. Anyone seeing me would think I was a maniac with how I was smiling so weirdly into my phone.
sent
alright but you choose where to eat
I texted Jaehyun so that I could fall asleep, but now it was 5:12am and the sun was starting to rise. We basically texted each other for 2 hours straight.
I knew all these stupid facts about Jaehyun now too. About how he's a music major, he had a lot of friends - 17 of them and some were still in highschool, he lived in California for 4 years - or was that Connecticut, and how he actually legally changed his name to Yoonoh but just didn't use it cause it sounded like someone else's.
received
it's 5:30 already. when's your first class?
sent
7...
received
you should go to sleep now. wouldn't want you falling asleep in class, babe.
sent
alright. goodnight, Jae.
received
goodnight, darling.
Babe and darling. I just met this man last night, technically, this morning. But already, Jung Jaehyun was becoming the death of me.
A/N. so my friends and i did this crazy thing where we drove around a college district at 9pm on a tuesday night, with our windows down, volume on max, and bass boosters switched on. we got in trouble but it felt so...

Jim Kirk (AOS) x Leonard McCoy (AOS)
Description: Jim Kirk stresses over meeting one Joanna McCoy. For @darlinleonard
Warnings: None.
Word Count: 2593
Notes: Very short, but heartwarming, I suppose. My first completed work, so there’s that. Also, suspend your realism for the last paragraph. It may be somewhat far-fetched, but so was Into Darkness, so.
Jim was unsure of how to expect the meeting to go.
Well, unsure wasn’t the precise word. To be more accurate, Jim was pretty fucking terrified of what was to come.
It was illogical to feel the way he did about the impending event, Spock would tell him and yet logic didn’t always seem to take care of the situation at hand; something that Jim was still struggling to teach Spock.
When Bones first told Jim of Joanna’s arrival three weeks ago, the captain had laughed. He would surely charm Joanna; they had spoken several times during shore leave, albeit over webcam. Still, every time the girl expressed her gratitude toward the captain. Having a father in Starfleet also meant the possibility of losing him to some space terror, something that the twelve year old had come to realize at a young age; to have a captain such as James T Kirk to helm the ship her father was on was a blessed gift to the child.
But her father had only really alluded to the relationship a few times. Jim understood why Bones was stepping so gently around it; Jocelyn had only just married Clay a few years ago, so needless to say Joanna was already adjusting to one stepparent.
But then they were faced with Khan Noonien Singh, an obstacle that neither of them had ever expected to face. Even worse, Leonard was faced with a greater obstacle: loss.
Jim knew how hard it had been for everyone, particularly Bones. The possibility of losing Jim forever had struck the man in a way that nothing else had in recent memory, with the exception of losing Jo to her mother.
And now that Jim was busy recovering, Leonard couldn’t bear the thought of Jo not meeting Jim as her father’s partner, and thus decided that now was as good of a time as any for the two to finally meet. He had explained this all to Jim late one evening after spending several hours re-exploring each other’s bodies, leaving no expanse untouched.
“She’s already so fond of you, Jim,” Bones muttered into his lover’s mussed hair. “If it weren’t for her daddy already being in Starfleet, I’d swear she was planning on going just to meet you.”  At the time, Jim hadn’t found the statement so daunting. It was a heartfelt secret shared between the two, not an obstacle.
But now as the two were standing next to one of the many international transporters in San Francisco, Jim could honestly say he had never been more terrified to meet a thirteen year old girl. The plan was to pick up the teen, show her around the area, and take her to dinner where they would tell her. A fun day, and yet Jim had never dreaded anything more in his life.
“Would you calm down for two seconds?” Len had berated him as the blonde man fiddled restlessly with the sleeves that fell at his wrists. Was it too informal? Jim wondered. The long sleeved t-shirt and jean ensemble had seemed practical thirty minutes ago, but now Jim was fretting over how casual the outfit looked. He was captain, after all. Should he have worn something different?
It was stupid, really, but Jim just couldn’t shake the feeling that, well, he might not seem good enough. It wasn’t until Bones spoke at him again that he pulled himself from his self-deprecating reverie.
“Jim, what’s buggin’ you so much? You’re starting to give me anxiety,” the CMO teased slightly, but stopped when Jim looked at him. He had that look in his eye that told Bones that he was unsure of something. He was afraid if he spoke, he might lose the toast he’d eaten just hours previously.
“Oh, kid. It’s not Jo that’s eatin’ you up, is it?” Len asked gently. His hand went to clasp Jim’s; the CMO must have noticed that his hands were sweaty, but said nothing, thankfully. “Jim, I can’t help you if you don’t give me anything,” the man said tenderly, something that was rather uncommon for the gruff doctor.
Jim hesitated; it really was ridiculous that the opinion of a kid was making him so damn worried. But Bones was right. If he didn’t do anything, he’d be a mess when Joanna showed up.
“I just…she really holds me in a high regard. You’ve said it yourself,” Jim said, his eyes fixing themselves on the concrete sidewalk they were standing on. “She idolizes me even. What if I’m not what she thinks I am, Bones? What if when she hears that we’re together, she…just feels differently. What if she doesn’t like me? What if I’m not…”
“Not what?”
“What if she doesn’t think I’m good enough?” Jim finished quietly. He looked up to meet Leonard’s half surprised hazel eyes.
“You’re kidding me, right?” the other man asked with a raised brow. “Jim, I don’t know what made you think that Jo’s not gonna like you, but it’s wrong,” he reassured the man. Jim gave a half-hearted smile. “God, Jim. You make it sound like you’re meeting my parents. Which, if they didn’t happen to like you, wouldn’t make any difference to me. What matters to me is how I feel about you.”
“Sorry,” Jim replied softly after a beat of silence.
“Don’t be. Just be yourself, Jim.”
“Oh, okay. Just wondering, when did you become a counselor? “Jim-”
“You got another degree in your pocket that I don’t know about?”
“God, you’re horrible.”
“You chose me.”
Bones sighed, but looked down at their intertwined hands with the hint of a smile playing at his full lips. “I guess I did,” he admitted. He shared a gaze with his boyfriend before the younger man rolled his eyes. “Don’t be so mushy in front of your daughter,” Jim teased. Leonard rolled his own eyes. As if it had been timed accordingly, the humming of the transporter could be heard on the street corner, and the two shared a gaze. Jim, whose blue eyes grew wide in fear, met Leonard’s calm ones. You’ll be fine, Jim, they told him. Jim nodded slightly, before sucking in a breath. He released Leonard’s hand, and joined in watching the small body begin to appear before them.
A gasp was heard, before Joanna McCoy appeared in a shimmer of teal, with a small suitcase trailing behind her. Her big hazel eyes blinked several times before focusing on her father, and a large smile appeared on her face. “Dad!” she cried happily, suitcase forgotten as she rushed up to meet him in a tight hug.
“Jojo!” Leonard greeted the girl as his large arms wrapped themselves around her. Jim felt a warmth shoot through him despite the trepidation; it was rare to see Bones smile that broadly, and that peacefully, too. “Oh, I missed you, Joanna Renai,” Leonard said before planting a large kiss atop of the girl’s strawberry blonde head. “Ew, dad!” Joanna whined from her father’s grip. Leonard pulled away with a smirk. “What, now that you’re thirteen you can ignore smooches from your pa? I don’t think so, ma’am,” Bones teased his daughter.
Jim, who was standing awkwardly with his arms crossed, shuffled slightly in his spot. Despite how happy it made him to see Bones like this, the man felt as if he were terribly out of place.
Bones pulled away from his daughter to gesture to the blonde man.“Oh, Joanna, I’d like you to meet Jim Kirk. He’s the captain of the Enterprise,” he explained. Joanna, who was all too familiar with Jim, smiled big. “It’s a pleasure to meet you in person, captain,” she said as she stuck her hand out. “Jim’s gonna have dinner with us, Jojo,” Leonard informed the girl, who brightened slightly. It wasn’t everyday you had dinner with your father and your idol, Jim thought. “Jojo, why don’t you tell Jim what you plan to do at Starfleet.”
Joanna pulled a sick face. “Can we not, dad? I just transported across the country. I feel pretty gross,” she admitted. Jim snorted to himself. “I wonder where she gets that from,” he said smartly before grabbing Joanna’s suitcase.
“So, what do you think of San Francisco?” Leonard asked Joanna in between bites of sushi. The girl shrugged as she sipped her lemonade. “It’s fine. I’m honestly just kind of disappointed.”
Bones looked at Jim with a slightly alarmed eyebrow.
“About?” he asked his daughter.
“Well, I was kind of expecting a tribble when I got here, but…”
“Joanna Renai McCoy, the time I get you a tribble is when I want your mother to physically drag me by me teeth and drop kick me into Saturn’s orbit.”
“You know the funny thing is, he probably likes space less than he likes that idea,” Jim quipped from Bones’s side to the girl. Joanna snorted appreciatively as Bones rolled his eyes. After a few hours and a drink, Jim had relaxed somewhat. Still, he felt apprehension sitting his stomach like a rock. “Well,” Bones announced suddenly as he stood from his seat, “with that, I think I’m gonna go grab another drink. Jim, you want another one?” he asked. The blonde man gave a slight shrug. “A gin and tonic would be nice,” he said. Bones nodded. “How about you, Jo? Another lemonade?” The girl shook her head. “I wanna finish this one first, dad,” she said with a slight giggle.
“Okay,” he said, before ruffling the girl’s hair. She stuck her tongue out at her father’s retreating back before turning to sip her drink. “What a doody-head,” she muttered to herself, making Jim snort. “Wow, you kids really need to work on your insults,” he teased. Joanna raised an eyebrow in a manner that very much reminded Jim of Bones. “Please, have you met my father? I didn’t grow up learning weak insults, you know.”
“Oh, I’ll bet. Has he told you of all of the creative names he’s come up with for Spock?” he asked with a smile. Joanna shook her head. “I’ve only really heard a few of them, to be honest. But, I’m sure dad’s come up with real winners.”
“Hey, so this is gonna be a little random, but what is it you really want to do in Starfleet? You sounded kind of embarrassed earlier,” Jim wondered suddenly. Jim had heard from Bones on a few occasions that she was interested in Starfleet, but had never really asked. Joanna looked down bashfully. “Honestly?” she asked, looking at him like he would laugh at her. Jim nodded. “Yeah.”
“I really want to captain a ship. Like you.”
“What’s so weird about that?” Jim inquired.
“Well, I had only just met you, and I’m sure my dad has told you all about how I think you’re one of the greatest people in the world and stuff.”
Jim smiled. “He’s mentioned it.”
“Well, I didn’t want to sound like a complete freak when I first showed up. Also, dad does this thing whenever I happen to meet his friends where he gets all teary-eyed and starts talking about all of my accomplishments, and I really didn’t want to deal with that,” Joanna admitted. Jim quirked a brow at the girl. “He is proud of you, though. He loves bragging whenever he gets messages from you.” Joanna covered her face with her hands. “Oh, no. He doesn’t do it in front of everyone, does he?” Jim shook his head. “No, just in front of Christine and I. Sometimes M’Benga when he’s feeling rapturous.”
The two then fell into a comfortable silence for a few moments. Jim, who was curious about the habits of his boyfriend, decided to prod slightly. “Does he really do that? Get all…teary-eyed and goobery?” Jim asked before raising his glass to finish his drink. Jo shrugged. “Sure. Honestly, I figured you probably picked up on it, being his boyfriend and all,” she replied nonchalantly.
Jim, who received the emotional equivalent of whiplash from the response, spat his drink out in a rather unattractive manner. Joanna merely blinked at him, though not without crinkling her nose gently at the man’s reaction. As the man craned his neck to look back at the girl, he stammered. “Wh-what?”
His gaze swept surreptitiously across the restaurant, praying that Bones would appear at any moment to save him from embarrassing himself further.  When he looked back at Joanna, she was holding her own dinner napkin in her hands to offer to him. He quickly took it, slightly ashamed that she had given up her own napkin; though his mind was still buzzing from her confession.
“Y-you did? For how long? Does your mom know?” Jim babbled as he dabbed uselessly at his slightly stained top. Joanna blinked her big hazel eyes at him, before breaking into a fit of giggles at the entire situation, much to Jim’s confusion. Before the man could speak up again, Bones could be heard from beside them. “I’m gone for a few minutes and already there’s a problem,” he joked. However, he caught Jim’s distressed eye and raised a brow. “What’s going on?” the man inquired, looking between his daughter and his boyfriend.
Joanna shook her head; ringlets bounced childishly around her face. “Oh, nothing. Your boyfriend thinks that I can’t pick up on things.”
Bones shot him an accusatory look. “I thought we were going to tell her together.”
Jim merely stammered.
“Oh, he didn’t tell me. I kind of figured it out,” Joanna said with a wave of her hand. “Honestly, you idiots aren’t as subtle as you think you are. God, does the crew always see you act this embarrassing?” she asked.
Joanna looked at her father, who appeared to be having a stroke. “Are you okay, dad?” she asked curiously. The man, who had just seated himself, proceeded to released a bark of laughter.
“Oh, oh, god. You really are my kid,” he managed to say after catching his breath.
The confession on Joanna’s part lead an air of comfortable felicity. Several drinks later, Jim was ready to head home and play Uno with Joanna, who had vowed to kick his ass.
She really was Leonard’s child.
All the two had to do was wait outside while Bones picked up the bill.
But they were content with chatting happily about their shared love of hell raising. “Just remember to put a few of the ‘Pop-It’s’ on the toilet seat. Also, don’t shut the lid too hard. You don’t want to set them off before someone sits on the toilet.”
Joanna nodded seriously. “Okay, I’ll remember.”
Jim gave her an approving look before looking out at the San Francisco sky. He hummed to himself as he tried to name the galaxies that surrounded them.
There was a moment of pure silence before Jim spoke up. “Hey, kid. You really want a tribble?” he asked, looking at the girl. Joanna raised a brow. “Sure,” she said slowly, looking at him with consideration. “I mean, I know they reproduce at a crazy rate and everything, but-” “Hey, don’t worry about that. Your dad actually brought one back to life, and we have nowhere to put it.” Joanna blinked. “Really? You’re serious?” she asked, excitement practically oozing her pores. “Sure. It’s at the hotel room right now. Your dad’s gonna kill me, but it’s not like he doesn’t threaten that on a regular basis,” Jim grumbled to himself as he eyed the man walking out of the restaurant.

The Sunwhisper Sister
((Co-written with @thefugitivemango / @gattius-lightmourn )) Few things had brought Gattius much happiness as of late. He used to enjoy pitching in at the infirmary, but lately it felt like a chore. He used to enjoy sitting in command meetings  and discussing the current state of the war on Argus with other high-ranking officials, but now it felt mundane and repetitive. He used to enjoy looking out the Vindicaar’s massive window out at Argus, watching the Azerothian forces advance… but now, it only made him worry. His circle of things that made him happy lately had been reduced to one of two things, as of late; Syrielle, and food. Given Syrielle had already gone to bed, however, Gattius sought out the latter. Talbuk gyros always tasted so good, and reinvigorated him after a long, tiring day. He made his way to the vendor’s small kiosk, and placed his order. “Yer gonna get fat, lad. Round as a Pandaren, if yeh keep eatin’ like that.” Alteris teased, materializing in Gattius’ peripheral beside the kiosk. “Bah, please. I do enough running around this damn ship to work off three times this meal.” Gattius retorted. “Still, yeh ought t’ find something more healthy to eat. I dunno if I wanna live in a mind connected to a frail, deterioratin’ body.” “Would you prefer I just eat salads and drink water?” Gattius frowned. “I don’t just eat for sustenance, Alt; I eat for comfort. And aside from a Sunsail filet, these talbuk gyros are the best tasting food I’ve had in a long time. I need this.” “Oi, suit yerself, lad. Don’t come cryin’ t’ me when--” Gattius suddenly felt a sense of dread wash over him; a sentiment expressed not by him, but by the image of Alteris. The Pathfinder stiffened, eyes wide as he stared off outside Gattius’ field of view.
“Oh, shit!”
He vanished in an instant, much to Gattius’ surprise! That had NEVER happened before. Quickly, warily, the Blood Knight turned to look the direction Alteris was looking before he vanished - he saw a woman, adorned in plate, approaching him… The older woman walked directly over to the captain, her gaze set on him. She was intimidating to say the least. Everything about her; the way she was composed, the way she walked… even the neutral expression on her face almost looked like a glare. Needless to say, everyone made certain to not get in her path as she walked. She stopped a few paces away, a respectable distance. Her blonde hair was pulled back into a ponytail. She wore no makeup to hide her age, clearly a couple hundred years older than he was, slightly taller but around the same build. There was an obvious scar that traveled across her left cheek and ear; a very old wound. Her dark red armor showed clear signs of recent battle. She stood up straight, tall and proud. Two very large swords were strapped across her back. “Captain Lightmourn,” she stated, eyeing him over… maybe sizing him up a little, “Blood Guard Kai’eka Sunwhisper. I’ve recently put in an application for the position of reservist of the Phoenix Guard.” ‘There’s something familiar about this woman,’ Gattius thought to himself. Not just the composure, or the static glare. He turned fully to her as she approached, eyes narrow as he rested his forearm on the hilt of his blade. He, too, sized the woman up - very much immune to being intimidated by battle-hardened women by now. His brow raised, however, as she rattled off her name and rank - Sunwhisper… A strange coincidence at the very least. His ear twitched, cautiously. “A pleasure, I’m sure.” Gattius responded, casually, as he looked Kai’eka over again. “How long ago did you submit this application? The process takes a few days, and I’ve got much more pressing matters as of late to be reading reservist dossiers.” He met her gaze with his own, frowning a bit. It surprised even himself; perhaps his time in command over the Guard had shortened his patience, and added edge to his demeanor. He felt irritated enough already. But now, this Blood Guard exuding a bad attitude had come up to him inquiring about her application? He didn’t have time to be pestered like this. Still… there was something alarming and particularly interesting about this woman… He sighed. “I’m sure you understand, Blood Guard… Sunwhisper, you said?” he added, tone taking a somewhat calmer and more personable tone. “Is that the same Sunwhisper as Pathfinder Alteris Sunwhisper?” He narrowed his eyes again, watching her reaction - given Alt’s odd behavior, he couldn’t help but ask… She raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms over her chest as Gattius got on the defensive something fast about the application. He was clearly stressed, most likely about the missing Commander. “Relax,” her tone remained neutral, “I came to tell you I applied. That’s it. I don’t give a shit where the process is at. You’ll get to it when you can. No skin off my back.” She was trying to be nice… It wasn’t something she was good at, however. She tried to think of something to say the would put him at ease. Nothing came to mind. She didn’t want to be talking to him in the first place. Clearly, she was not a people person. She went to turn away, but paused as Alteris was mentioned. She froze, her ear twitched, and she turned her attention back to Gattius, a look of interest now. “He’s my brother. Pain the the ass,” she said, “How do you know him? I haven’t heard from him in years.” Gattius sighed, her response confirming what he had feared. “--Sorry, I’m… I didn’t mean to snap at you like that.” he apologized. “Got a lot on my mind lately. Thanks for following up about that application.” He gave the woman another look-over, appraisingly. She was fit, seemed strong, clearly a capable combatant. But after her retort, he noticed she went quiet, and broke her gaze from him. He sighed, guessing she didn’t interact too much with people. All the more reason he should’ve been patient with her before. What she revealed after was more than surprising to him - Alteris had always told him his family was long dead. A sister, though, still living… he wondered why Alteris never said anything. He wondered why Alteris never sought her out, kept connected to her after so many elves died in the Third War. But most of all, he wondered if it were true… “His sister, aye?” he quirked his brow. “He never spoke of a sister…” He watched her a moment, as if to gauge her. What did she have to gain by lying about this? Was she trying to garner Gattius’ trust? Interest? To what end? The way Alteris responded to her… still couldn’t explain that one. This whole thing raised dozens of questions. Still, he opted to answer hers as best - and plainly - as he could. “Alt and I were partners, for many years.” he explained. “I met him when we pushed through the Dark Portal together, and we were with each other every step of the way since.” His ears wilted, lips pressing to a thin line. “I… I’m sorry to be the one to tell you, but… he’s dead. Killed in Action, during the Pandaria Campaign.” This conversation had gotten uncomfortably personal all too fast. She frowned, being told that he had never mentioned her. Part of her wasn’t surprised, given the fact that he had literally run away. He hadn’t wanted to be tracked down, made even more obvious that he had found a Light user to cling to. Smart. She wondered if Gattius knew he had been used in such a way. “Yeah, he rushed through the Dark Portal something fast,” she said simply, finally uncrossing her arms and allowing them to fall at her sides, “That’s where I lost track of him.” She eyed Gattius over again, wondering the exact nature of his relationship with her brother. The word ‘partners’ could mean more than one thing. “At least you’re an Elf,” she concluded, “His ‘partner’ before you was a Dwarf.” Her tough attitude seemed to melt away, though, as Gattius told her of Alteris’ death. Her ears wilted, pain evident in her gaze before she looked away. Hands balled into fists. She had always wondered of his fate. If he had died in Outlands or somewhere else. Where had his adventures taken him? Hope that he was alive and that she’d finally be able to track him down had risen when the Captain had brought him up… Now she knew her final surviving family member had also perished. She turned away, her back to Gattius. “It was good to meet you, Captain.” she managed before walking away. She needed to be alone now. “--Ah, wait!” Gattius insisted, lightly jaunting up beside her as she moved away from him. “Wait, I…” He hadn’t exactly planned how to follow that up; but seeing her react to the news of her brother’s death resonated with him, deeply. He knew how she felt - moreso than anyone else ever could. Alteris was his closest friend, almost family and then some as they cultivated a deeper, emotional relationship. He’d always thought he, alone, would mourn the loss. But now, seeing the sister he never knew Alteris had, he couldn’t let her mourn him alone, as he had. “Listen, I…” he began again, organizing his thoughts on the fly. “When you’re comfortable with it… I think we should get together and talk about it. If that’s okay with you, I mean.” He shrugged his shoulders, reminding himself to be sympathetic. “There’s a lot I don’t know about him, even after the years we were together - clearly, aye? I didn’t even know he had a sister.” he explained. “And it sounds like you don’t know about the later parts of his life, either. I’d be happy to tell you about it. We could honor his memory together, yeah?” Gattius nodded once, offering a comforting smile. “What do you say?” Kai’eka cursed under her breath as she heard the Captain following, holding back the urge to turn on him and tell him to get lost. She had to keep reminding herself that she wasn’t part of the Guard yet, and she never would be if she didn’t manage to navigate this discussion properly. She stopped walking, allowing Gattius to catch up to her, though she kept her eyes ahead of her as he spoke. Her fists remained clenched at her side. “I’m not…” she sighed, rolling her shoulders back, “I’m not good at talking… about things… feelings.” She wanted to be left alone, and some very particular aspects of her life with Alteris were absolutely not up for discussion. She knew Gattius had questions, and she didn’t want to answer them. But at the same time,   after all of these years, she finally found someone with the information she had been looking for. Unfortunately for her, it was someone she wouldn’t be able to intimidate and threaten the information out of. “Maybe.” She finally answered, “Not now, though. Later.” Gattius nodded, understandingly. He knew it was probably the last thing she wanted to hear in that moment. Clearly, she wasn’t a very social person - he knew the sort. Respectfully, he took a step back from her. “Of course.” he assured her. “Take any time you need. I… I know it’s hard to hear news like that. I understand what it means to lose someone.” He fought the urge to keep talking, realizing anything more he said would be best saved for when she was ready to hear it. He regarded her one more time, taking note of her features and demeanor. He believed she was being sincere, quelling his worries perhaps she was simply trying to manipulate him. But he trusted his gut - and his gut told him she was genuine. “--Ah, er…” he fumbled, snapping back to the conversation. “It was good to meet you, Kai’eka. I’ll be around the ship, here, if you need anything. Even if you’re not ready to talk, you’re welcome to come to me for anything you might need. Mending, support, some kind of liaison between you and these Army of Light types… you name it.” He smiled warmly, before nodding his head. He turned from her, throwing a hand out to the side to wave his farewell. Kai’eka finally made eye contact, the look betraying the fact that she was doing everything she could to hold it together. Clearly, she was trying to hide how distraught she was over the news. She gave Gattius a respectable nod of the head. “Thank you, Captain,” she said simply, before continuing on her way. The Blood Guard made her way straight over to the teleporter, steeling herself before being transported to the planet surface. Her ears picked up the sounds of battle not far. She went the opposite direction, to the cliff’s edge. She was finally alone to reflect on the conversation Alone… “Alt…” She had spent years looking for her brother, trying to determine what happened to him. Now, her search had come to an end. And she knew for a fact that she would never see him again. She wanted to scream. Her cold front melted away. Bringing a single hand up to her face, she grit her teeth and closed her eyes; however, it didn’t stop the tears from streaming down her cheeks.
