I don't know if it's an unpopular opinion, but I don't think Hua Cheng would ever forgive Mu Qing. Maybe Feng Xin, who left because Xie Lian asked him to (his crime was just loyalty of the wrong sort), but not Mu Qing, not after the mountain scene.
I like shipping the Xianle Quartet together, but I think the relationship between Hua Cheng and Mu Qing would always be tense. Hua Cheng would play nice, but only because Xie Lian asked.

This weekend’s Feng Xin thoughts are about how guarded he is (bodyguard pun 🔥)
On one hand, he’s pretty open about his emotions—singing when he’d thinking about his girlfriend, being visibly moody when he’s thinking about how things aren’t going well with his girlfriend, swearing when he’s startled
But so much of his character is in what he doesn’t say. He never tells anyone that he had a girlfriend. 800 years of never talking about one of his most significant relationships!
Or there’s also the way he tries to pay off Xie Lian’s debts in secret. He doesn’t need or want the acclaim for doing a good thing; he just wants to do it because he’s kind and cares about his friends, and them knowing about it creates a weird sense of obligation.
He’s also just known around heaven for being unapproachable, whether it’s because he’s politely distancing himself from women or because he has an intimidating resting bitch face, or just the fact that he usually isn’t around and avoids the other gods on purpose
Fanon Feng Xin often gets cast as the cool confident extrovert to Mu Qing’s introvert, but honestly I think that’s backwards. Feng Xin is the one who avoids people and is extremely secretive about his past and his relationships, versus Mu Qing having absolutely no problem being a menace and the center of attention in the communication array

TGCF donghua Season 2, Episode 11 thoughts
This episode was amazing alkdjlada. Spoilers for the book and donghua below.
Ah Fangxin in the coffin T-T Xie Liannnn... It's interesting they're... setting up for Hua Cheng's birthday? O.o Are they that confident they'll get to that (please be that confident, please!!)? Or just thinking "we get this in while we can in case there isn't enough"? Or just explaining why Xie Lian isn't getting out? It's a pretty (and sad) scene. And another Xiao Mengyou scene!! I'm so grateful for all the time we get alkdjaldj But also sad to think of how Lang Qianqiu thinks of him after saying all friends are false T-T
Xie Lian is so sad T-T Hua Cheng trying to comfort him. They're so cute together T-T Hua Cheng holding back so hard from hugging him.
Xie Lian destroying his statue T-T And then worrying about saving people. Hua Cheng wanting to say Something and being like... no we do what gege wants. Always.
Distracted by Xie Lian's poofy sleeves. I'm a poofy sleeves girl 4ever.
I'm a simple woman. I just like Hualian walking around together. Bein cute. Chattin. Saving people but not being in danger.
Xie Lian giving the "don't put me on a pedestal" speech T-T Love it so much. Hua Cheng being like, "yeah but idc, I'm right, you deserve to be there, no matter what others say". This man put a ring on it long ago, he ain't goin back. He Knows Things, Gege. He Knows. Things. Even more things you'd rather he didn't :/
Xie Lian's heart going doki doki
Sorry the eye swoosh made me laugh aldkjaldaj WHO ARE YOU SAN LANG TELL HIM alkjdaldkjal
Shi Qingxuan T-T And Xie Lian is so happy to see Wind Master :3 His bestie :333
Feng Xin lookin sexy with his spirit bow. I've loved spirit bows since I was like 6, okay???? I know, Fall coming out with the Hot Takes TM of "spirit bows are cool" aldkjaldaj For more Hot Takes TM, like "I just love Hualian", read more alkdjalj
Hua Cheng yoinking Xie Lian behind him made me laugh so hard alkdjalkdjaldja YOINK A GEGE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Xie Lian's FACE alkdjaldaj "omg" aldkjaldja There's a line from tagteamme's wonderful Mobei-Jun/Shang Qinghua fanfic AN IDIOT'S GUIDE TO A HAPPY MARRIAGE that describes a flabbergasted/upset Shang Qinghua as a "wronged chicken" and that's all I can think of here alkdjaldaj
AND XIE LIAN JUST GOES WITH IT ALKDJALDJA I LOVE THEM ALKDJALJ
Shi Qingxuan and Feng Xin confused at The Gay: ???
Hua Cheng: -satisfied smile- Yes he is Mine
Shi Qingxuan subtitling this book: "Good intentions can easily be misinterpreted when passed around. Better to start with bad intentions, and they'll believe it!"
Feng Xin not compelled by the Gay Married Couple. He protecc Dianxia. He left and failed so many times to do just that, after all. Not like Xie Lian told him to get lost out of fear or anything <;.< Oh no I be havin Feng Xin and Xie Lian feelings, as I do every day T-T
alkdjalj Poor Feng Xin. He's so terrified of women. He's just completely gone. Just nope. Cannot do anything. No function. Goodness I feel bad for every female heavenly official having to interact with him.
Hua Cheng is so handsome this episode, honestly. Every frame of him is gorgeous. And male Wind Master is back!
asldakjdladj the little ding that plays when Feng Xin notes that Qi Rong's tactics are ridiculous. Translating the ding: duhhhhhh
Nothing about Xie Lian phases Shi Qingxuan. A true friend.
Tumblr media
I love them so much T-T
adlkajdlkajda Hua Cheng is Xie Lian's "sworn brother" I can't with Shi Qingxuan I can't alkdjaldjaljk (yes I know this is the line in at least the English translation but I just alkjdlajda it kills me alkdjaljda). Hua Cheng is so unimpressed alkdalj "You disrespect my relationship with gege???" (I don't think he cares, but I do love that he's slightly more chill with Shi Qingxuan because Shi Qingxuan is one of the the only other people who supports Xie Lian)
Tumblr media
I love Shi Qingxuan so much alkdjlaj He's your friend Xie Lian T-T You have a frienddddd
Hua Cheng like, "I'm better besties with gege than you are, Feng Xin >:3 Oh right you're not friendssss anymore are you >:3 Cause you abandoned himmmmm >:3" He's not mad about it. Nope.
Feng Xin covered in blood is pretty >.>
The soft Xie Lian thank you. The happy Hua Cheng acceptance. I love them so much T-T
Hua Cheng: "Overthinking. Just focus on doing what you need to do." He always reassures his gege. He wants his gege to do whatever makes him happy.
Ahhh what a good episode T-T So much Hualian. Feng Xin angst. So pretty. So good. And hey, the subs were decent! There's already been a preview for episode 12, so we know there's at least one episode left! I feel like they'll probably end the season either right before the switch to the past or right at the beginning, which is sad, but it makes sense. I just want more T-T
Other episode thoughts for season 2 (didn’t start till episode 3):

thinking about this AU/head canon more, it does feel so impossible for hua cheng to ever even pretend to lose his memory. his investment in his identity, especially through very obvious not at all subtle visual aesthetics, is such an integral part of him.
and then he xuan is a total inversion this, integral to his identity is disappearance and disguise, his identity is unknowable, shifting, deceptive, hidden, opaque. (verrrry deep ocean creature of him, if i must say)
and god, this is the whole poetry of huaxuan for me ...
so allow me to change it to say that he xuan finds the imploded husk of a ghost form hua cheng after the end of tgcf and takes him in, and disguises himself
but as hua cheng heals he of course realizes it's he xuan but seeing as he's in disguise, assumes it because he xuan does not want to be recognized or want anything to do with hua cheng any more, perhaps he's only doing it to fulfill the "debt"
so he just soaks up all these moments of he xuan being sweet and open with him
and he xuan thinks hua cheng doesn't want to see him anymore, when hua cheng never shows signs of thinking about anything but xie lian. after the black water arc where he xuan made hua cheng go against his xie lian's wishes and then hua cheng never looked for him again except to demand he help shi qingxuan with the human array in imperial city, he assumes it was over. hua cheng never shows signs of wondering about he xuan, or even seeing through he xuan’s disguise, it is pretty weak after all (maybe on purpose). so he plans to only stay until hua cheng is well enough to go back to dianxia and then vanish again
so they're both lying to each other, while devouring every moment they get to be close to be each other before it ends. allowing myself the rare hurt&fluff
oh and stealing a scene from the show that gave me this brain worm - when hua cheng is back in a human form, (and of course there is only one bed!) in the middle of the night hua cheng wakes up to feel he xuan’s limbs holding him (octopus lover) and sees he xuan has unconsciously transformed into his true form and tentatively cuddles him back
also: i spent a lot of nearly-delirious-with-exhaustion-too-hot-to-sleep hours last night imagining hua cheng's post-implosion forms. i would especially enjoy if hua cheng never claimed to be hua cheng toward he-xuan-in-disguise, and thinks he's done a good job playing it cool, but his forms have been the most crimson rain dramatic aesthetic of all time...
he xuan finds in the volcano a tiny silver egg with fine tiny engravings (probably should be a cocoon for the butterflies but caterpillars/butterflies kind of disgust me so that can kindly get OUT of my imagination thank u) that after a few weeks of keeping it warm hatches to a deep red one eyed bird that sits on he xuan's shoulder singing the tune of the lullabye hua cheng's mother sang to him while he xuan is trying to read
anyway... after hua cheng left one day when he had recovered (he xuan thinking since he never said goodbye and went directly to xie lian he must have realized his real identity, and hua cheng thinking since he xuan never came after him he must really have only been doing it out of obligation). enter xie lian! who on his scrap collecting journeys he had found an old lonely scholar with a lot of rare and beautiful scrolls, and often had a lot of junk as well. they become friends and she would give xie lian scraps after sharing a cup of tea and snacks and getting xie lian to blushingly tell stories about his husband
one day at the end of the visit xie lian sighs and says "forgive me lord black water, but san lang really misses you."
*he xuan being shaken to his core*
anyway then hualian start dating he xuan and they all fall in love and are happy and cuddly and well fed forever :)
also he xuan wrote the scrap immortal ghost king smutty fairy tales book (who else would know both of their sexual proclivities, and personal tendencies so well?)
until the next climate despair avoidance heat wave sleep deprivation delirium night!
~
also, like i said in the previous post, i think there’s plenty of evidence that hua cheng and he xuan are important to each other and get along throughout and after the black water arc but for the purposes of angsty fluff here we are

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....Thanks....
Thank you for the ask!
In all the media I've loved? That's a hard oneee. I don't think I could put it in any particular order buuut:
Liu Qingge (SVSSS) -
I am enamored with this man for some reason. He's so so so pretty and I love his character. Fiercely loyal and like a personal uber driver to SQQ. He's such a sweetheart even if he doesn't show it and I love every single scene he's in. In the years that SQQ was "dead", I really liked how he stopped at nothing to try and retrieve his body from Luo Binghe so that he could have a proper burial (even if he was unsuccessful) and the way he returns SQQ's fans whenever he loses them. He just wants to protect the ones he cares about and I want to give him a big big hug.
Tumblr media
2. Hua Cheng (TGCF) -
I truly love his dedication and pure infatuation with Xie Lian, as well as the fact that this man is FINE. His character has so much depth and his willingness to do anything for XL is so beautiful. His 800 years of commitment and the way he is willing to give his everything to XL AGH he's so amazing.
Also. He's SMOKIN. Like scalding. Like HOT DAMN.
Tumblr media
3. Hajime Hinata/Izuru Kamukura (Danganronpa) -
Since these guys are technically the same person, I'm just gonna count them as one.
Hajime is my favorite protagonist of the Danganronpa games and I love that at first you think he's a pretty basic dude, like "Oh yeah there's not much to write home about him." But then you see his sassy quips and his slight tsundere personality which just adds to him, and then you learn about his backstory and his entire character as a whole changes for you. His need to be accepted, his insecurity and deep longing for approval in which he takes drastic measures in order to try and accept himself. He agreed to be lobotomized not knowing that him as a whole was just going to disappear. Enter Izuru Kamukura. Who honestly I just think is really cool and there's not a lot I have to say about him tbh. Like even though he's kind of a completely different person, parts of Hajime still make their way through to who he is.
Tumblr media
4. Nagito Komaeda (Danganronpa) -
I find him to be one of the best written antagonists in Danganronpa, his intentions always somewhat insane but when you learn about the meanings behind them, he's always calculated and intentional. Also, due to his terminal illness that he somehow outlasts due to his luck, he struggles in social settings, which I think adds to the depth of his character and how he sees things. He really doesn't think much of himself and yet manages to have a superiority complex over people he deems "lesser" than him (which then changes after the events of the Dr3 anime). Also I just think he's pretty goofy haha. He's pretty kooky and I like him a normal amount (lie).
Tumblr media
5. Kurapika Kurta (HunterxHunter)
He is SO PRETTY. I really love a good revenge plot and I enjoyed his character a lot. I thought his powers were really interesting even though they took years off of his life :(
(Also I want his earrings)
Tumblr media
6. Zhuzhi-Lang (SVSSS) -
I think he deserves so much love and I just want to give him the biggest warmest hug. He deserves so much. He's so loyal and willing to do anything for those who have been kind to him and made him feel like a person rather than a monster.
Tumblr media
7. Lan Wangji (MDZS)
His pure LONGING and adoration for WWX are just so precious. He seems all aloof and chaste and pure but on the inside he's a lovesick and pining mess. I can never get over the scene where he hears WWX's confession and you can just see how this is all he's ever wanted and finally, finally, he can be with the one he loves with all of his being.
Tumblr media
8. Chiaki Nanami (Danganronpa) -
Chiaki is so sweet and kind and truly cares so much about her friends. She gave up her life believing in them and knowing that a brighter future awaits them. She's so loving and knows that she may not be with them, but she will forever live on in the hearts and memories of the ones dearest to her.
Also: Gamer.
Tumblr media
9. Shen Qiao (Thousand Autumns)
Shen Qiao is just so benevolent and good-hearted, he really just deserves the best things and yet draws the short-end of the stick continuously. He's such a sweetheart and such a beauty, I love himmm.
Tumblr media
10. Miles Edgeworth (Ace Attorney) -
Honestly I just really enjoyed his character and his interactions with Phoenix. He is so gay.

[Kinktober 2022: Foursome, feat. HuaLian (18+)]
FengQing | Heaven Official’s Blessing 24-10-2022
Day 24: [Three or moresome] | B̷u̷k̷k̷a̷k̷e | G̷o̷r̷e
Xie Lian wasn’t sure what he had expected while going with Feng Xin and Mu Qing on an investigation. Ending up stuck in a room after being fed an aphrodisiac isn’t on the list of possible outcomes.
====
His body felt like it was on fire, the air suffocating, his skin too sensitive to everything and his head was pounding painfully. But more importantly, he tried to hide just how hard he had gotten.
If he were to look at everyone else in the small room, he’d realise they were pretty much all in the same state.
He wasn’t sure what he should have expected when he and Hua Cheng followed Feng Xin and Mu Qing on their investigation. It was supposed to be about strange disappearances in the south, a lot of men going missing and none had been seen since then.
Little did he expect for them to be drugged with aphrodisiacs as they were trying to get information. Even worst, being trapped in a room they couldn’t get out of.
“Gege, you are burning up” Hua Cheng commented after gently touching his forehead, frowning at his state. He leaned into the somewhat cool touch. Even his husband felt warmer than usual despite being a ghost.
“Fuck my spiritual energy is being blocked and I can’t fucking open this door” Feng Xin complain, kicking at the door. It was clearly taking a toll on him, seeing how his movements were more sluggish than intended.
“Would you quit yelling for once” Mu Qing snapped back, suddenly pulling him away from the door so he would stop making so much noise. He didn’t expect for the man to stumbled back the way he did, something between a yelp and a moan escaping his mouth when the man fell on his lap.
“How weak are you that only this makes you moan” Feng Xin mocked, trying to get up from where he had fallen.
“Weak?!” Mu Qing replied, “Then what is this,” he asked, hand going to palm at the obvious tent in his pants. He smirked when Feng Xin groaned, legs giving out a little and nearly falling all over him again.
Xie Lian couldn’t help but blush even more at the action the two other men were doing, trying to prove their point by keeping on pushing against each other. Hearing his friends moan and groan in pleasure sure wasn’t on the list of things he had planned for this investigation.
“I think we should get our strength back if we manage to get the aphrodisiac out of our system” Hua Cheng ends up commenting. To this, Xie Lian only blushed even more, looking up at the ghost king who offered him a small smile.
“No shit genius” Mu Qing replied with sarcasm.
“This means we should probably try to accelerate the process before they decide to come back and do something to us” Hua Cheng added.
“San Lang” Xie Lian replied a bit more quietly, shifting where he was sitting. The idea of doing anything while his friends were there was… pretty embarrassing.
He felt himself being pulled into Hua Cheng’s lap, arms wrapping around him. He would really like the touch, were he not feeling like he was about to combustion and while having an audience.
“It’s okay Gege,” Hua Cheng said nicely, leaning his chin on Xie Lian’s shoulder, “if you’re embarrassed I can always make sure they won’t be able to look” he added.
It sounded too cheerful for the weird implication this had.
“What do you want to do while you’re… helping him,” Feng Xin asked, frowning.
“I don’t care” the ghost king smiled, “You could both go have fun in your own corner for all I care”.
It was a bit hard to do really, seeing that the room was really small and barely left 2m between where the couple was in their corner and where Feng Xin and Mu Qing were fighting near the door.
Xie Lian couldn’t help but squirm where he was sitting, blushing when he felt just how hard Hua Cheng was against him. One looked up at his friends and he could tell they were doing all that much better.
“It’s alright” he simply said, “Just don’t fight anymore” he added. Everything was starting to feel too much, I wanted to get some release and hearing them fight wasn’t really helping him feel better.
“As Gege demands” Hua Cheng replied, kissing his neck as hands started to work his robes off.
Then they were already getting lost in their own bubble, Hua Cheng undressing him after he did admit feeling too hot. Hands skillfully finding every sensitive part of his body.
Xie Lian tried to keep his voice in check, but it was a bit hard to do as Hua Cheng kept teasing him.
He ended up retaliating, trying to turn a little so he could help take away the ghost king’s clothes too, not wanting to be the only one like this.
Plus, the layers were making it hard to also try and pleasure him.
As they were lost in each other, Feng Xin and Mu Qing couldn’t help but look away. They had already seen Xie Lian half naked in the past, from helping him change or training. But this was completely different.
They couldn’t stop hearing though, and they would both lie if they said it didn’t push their arousal further.
Then they exchanged a look, before nodding in silent agreement. They couldn’t just wait it out and see what would happen when their spiritual energy was still blocked.
And simply jerking off while the couple was going at it just felt weird.
So they might as well join in.
Soon they were at each other’s clothes, nearly ripping it off of. It sure look way less loving and gentle than what their companion were doing.
They somehow started to argue again on who should top, if they were to go that far. At some point Mu Qing just gave up, starting to get tired from all this and just wanting to get it over with.
He was surprised by how much ease Feng Xin had to move him around, placing him on his hand and knee as he started fingering him. He sure hadn’t expected him to go directly for that, but he assumed he shouldn’t have expected for the man to be one to want to caress him.
Although he was being surprisingly gentle despite all the barking he was doing.
Once he stopped focusing on what was happening behind him, he realised with a startle that Xie Lian was in a similar position as him now. They were nearly breathing against each other, the room too small for all of them really.
He wanted to look away, but somehow ended up rather captivated by how the martial god looked like. It had been a while since he last saw him so up close, and never…. In this kind of situation.
He blushed when he met eyes with him, looking away quickly when he realised that he was probably not looking any better. Not when he was trying to keep in his moans, Feng Xin was surprisingly pretty good at it. He wasn’t sure if he should actually be that surprised.
He was taken out of his thoughts when he felt a hand grab his, Xie Lian offering him an awkward but reassuring smile. He couldn’t help but let a laugh escape him at the absurdity of the situation.
He also didn’t miss the glare Hua Cheng was giving him, he nearly wanted to touch Xie Lian more just to piss him off, but didn’t want to make it more awkward for the god.
“Just go on already,” Mu Qing said to Feng Xin. He felt like he was burning and he needed more to come.
And he was pretty sure just fingering him wouldn’t do it for Feng Xin either.
“Tsk, how fucking impatient” he mumbled, fingers pulling out, leaving him twitching around nothing. He instead felt him shift behind him, something pressing against him, before pushing in.
He also felt Feng Xin lean over him, his free arm going around his torso, keeping him close. “Tell me if it’s hurt” he heard near his ear, feeling his hot breath against his neck.
This felt strangely intimate, something weird in him reacting to all this.
He decided to ignore him, just focusing on staying relaxed so it could go better. Thankfully they had some balm without them to somewhat make it slide better.
He sure didn’t expect it when Feng Xin started to kiss his neck, nibbling at the skin slightly as he started moving his hips. He turned a little towards him as he was panting, looking at him a bit puzzled. He shivered slightly at the heated look he received, not having expected that.
When he was kissed he was even more surprised, moaning against Feng Xin's lips as he hit just the right spot while moving. He decided to keep kissing him, feeling like it could be him quiet more.
“They seem to be getting along for once,” Hua Cheng chuckled as he pulled his lover back against his chest, enjoying the lovely sound Xie Lian made as he slowly sank on his cock. Still, the god managed to hum in agreement, shyly eyeing the two martial gods.
He couldn’t focus on them for too long though, since Hua Cheng started moving his hips to fuck into him. Hands were teasing his chest and his leaking cock, knowing just how he liked it. He ended up turning towards the ghost king, demanding kisses too from him.
And as much as he was focusing on Hua Cheng, he sure wasn’t fully unaffected by his friends. He would never have expected in his rather long life to find the sight of friend having sex to be arousing. Maybe it was the specific situation, but still.
They weren’t really there only for that though, Feeling how Hua Cheng wasn’t really taking his tie to make it last as long as possible. They were doing this for a reason and lust wasn’t really at the top of the list right now.
Feng Xin had also picked up the pace, one of his hand jerking Mu Qing in a similar quick rhythm to the movement of his hips.
Everyone ended up coming around the same time, some more delayed than others. This wouldn’t be enough to get all the drugs out of their system, but Feng Xin could already feel some spiritual energy coming back to him.
“They’ll fucking see” he grumbled as he was dressing up again, “I’ll kick some ass even without my full energy”.
Maybe if needed they to because there was still some aphrodisiac left in their system, they would finish the job. Now they just needed to get out.
====
(god this feels a bit all over the place. Also, am not sure if it's as much foursome as just having sex in the same room, but still, here it is¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

Wei wuxian, Xie Lian and Luo Binghe are friends. (They and Nie Huaisang and SQX and Jing Cheng are a pretty much a gang). They would be the three ya know that is always in the wrong place wrong hour. Wei Wuxian would take care of Binghe, like a older brother having but being the bad influence to him, meanwhile XL and Wei Ying would get along pretty well because they would never judge each other, XL be older brother and good influence for them.
San Lang, He Xuan and SQQ hang out together sometimes but mostly cause they're from the same house and SQQ is one of the only person that San Lang can stand(besides his lover XL ofc) and SQQ is all poker face and clever outside but inside he loves hang out with the bad boys that everyone is afraid of from the school, he feels so cool.
Pei Ming and Nie Mingjue are friends.
The Nie family all were from Gryffindor through generations, NM pick on Huaisang for don't be Gryffindor.
Mu Qing feel jealousy of Feng Xin and Xie Lian being from the same house, he feels left out sometimes.
Nie Huaisang keeps following and watching SQX because of their spiritual fan, he just wants one too. He and SQX are friends.
Wei Ying and Luo Binghe starts using dark magic in the fifth year. They're learning from San Lang.
The Headmaster (Zu Wu) makes Xie Lian life a living hell(Kinda Snape with Harry but worse or reversed Dumbledore) but because of this XL had faced multiple mosnters and saved the school many times become the school hero and mostly popular kid. Until he fails one day and becomes the school joke.
SQQ is a couple years older than Binghe, he saved his life and the boy started following him around and he kind allowed and let he grow on him and didn't noticed that every year the boy was more and more in love with him.
San Lang was the weird kid that got bullied from day one, Xie Lian was one year ahead and saved him multiple times, what made him admire and care for him, but San Lang couldn't saved him when they got in serious trouble with some monsters, so he decided be stronger, as he grows up he falls in love with XL and become powerful, even using dark magic, nobody bully him anymore, everyone is scared of him and he can finally protects his beloved.
When XL falls in love with him, Mu Qing and Feng Xin freak out "he's in love with you since the first Year, he's crazy", "He's Slytherin" "He uses dark magic".
Lan Zhan would ended up asking help for Xie Lian, (they're kinda friends because of Wei Ying friendship with XL) to try stop Wei Wuxian from using dark magic and get hurt, Xie Lian accepts but he knew that San Lang also used and he was okay with, so when they find out that Wei Ying is taking lesson from San Lan, things got complicated and weird. And once again XL is between his lover and his friends, cause Lan Zhan wants fights San Lang.
But later when Binghe and Wei Wuxian falls in some dark abys and disappear, presumably dead, XL feel guilty and many people blame him, cause they were always together and people thinks is his jobs save everyone all time. San Lang feel they could be alive, so he (Lan Zhan and SQQ) go after them. He only find them five years later, when they're no longer in school, and that would be another story...

TGCF donghua Episode 9 Thoughts (SPOILERS! for episode and novel)
I've heard of the words Sinner's Pit a while back, probably when I first heard of TGCF, but it wasn't until a couple weeks ago when I started reading the book that I finally understood what they meant, and why it was an event in the saga of HuaLian. Even though I've only been acquainted with it for such a short period of time, I still teared up when watching the scene, so I can only imagine how much more emotional this moment was for fellow fans who have been waiting years to see it. I really hope it lived up to everyone's expectations cuz it kinda blew my mind.
Tumblr media
When the episode was delayed in its broadcast I actually felt dread, since I immediately assumed that the HuaLian Sinner's Pit scenes didn't pass the restrictions and it was going to be edited to death or worse yet, completely cut out. Thank God that was not the case. I was looking forward to much groppage of Hua Cheng from Dianxia, and that's exactly what I got...with an extra large dose of romance too thanks to the amazing score. If anything was left out in the scene I sure couldn't tell nor did I feel anything was missing.
I've watched countless fall and rescue scenes in cdramas, to the degree that sometimes it feels like it's a required element in romance cdramas, and of course it's usually the woman in the couple falling from somewhere and the man coming to her rescue and catching her. And they're usually so poorly done that I either eyeroll so hard my eyes feel like they're gonna pop out of their sockets or I feel almost nauseated from the cheesiness.
But the donghua did it PERFECTLY. Those stupidass cdramas should learn from them. HuaLian's fall and catch scene was paced just right, scored just right, shot just right...simple PERFECTION. Not at all cheesy or cringey, utterly sublime...and everything that followed between them was utterly sublime as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Talk about another perfectly captured scene. I loved this line. So sweet and wonderful. No wonder Hua Cheng's in love with this man.
Tumblr media
Btw, I know it says friendship, but just in case anyone's worried the donghua is trying to friendzone HuaLian, those Chinese characters can just be a general way of saying getting along, usually in a friendly way, but it's not as friend zone-y as it sounds. Although, I doubt anyone actually watching the show and paying attention to it would even think Hua Cheng only wants to be bro-friends with Xie Lian.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean, I guessss bros can be touchy feely and eyefuck eyelove each other all the time, but I would personally like to meet them bros like that.
Tumblr media
Also, not fair of the donghua team to cuteify these boys even more. My poor heart almost couldn't take it. Too adorable!!
Honestly, after that HuaLian-ful sequence, my brain was barely able to register anything else. Doesn't help that I already know how things will resolve in terms of this mystery. I am mostly looking forward to how the "new" characters whom are being introduced to looks and how they will bring to life certain non-HuaLian related events that sounded dramatic or even epic in writing.
Tumblr media
For example the Banyue Guoshi...was totally not expecting her to look this adorable. She looks so innocent and pretty, who in their right mind would bully such a beautiful little girl??
Tumblr media
Although, when she is on the attack, she definitely does feel like a wraith bringing instant death upon her victims. This was so beautifully animated: it looked both terrifying and truly impressive.
Lastly:
Tumblr media
Hiiii puppyyyyy!!!! Nice to finally meet you!! Who's a good boy?? 😂 E-Ming's a total cutie pie and his first appearance was cool AF too. I freaked out a little.
OMG I almost forgot!! I LOVE the new ED theme!!! I hope they release an official MV for it soon!
~
NOVEL SPOILERS
Current Reading Progress: finished book 1, currently in book 2, knee-deep in Yong'an famine crisis. Every HuaLian interaction is a treasure, I know I didn't mention them at all last week but pretty much every time they meet up again I scream a bit. The temple scene, when Dianxia told chibi HC to live for him, got me so emotional (I also really want to hug little HC and protect him forever). Seriously felt like I finally reached some kind of important milestone since I read that line somewhere even before I even knew who or what HuaLian was. I don't know how many seasons of the donghua we'll be blessed with, but if we don't get as far as Dianxia's past, then I do hope we at least get to see Ghost City, Gambler's Den, Paradise Manor, and Qi Rong's cave. I can imagine getting into some of that next season but unless it's a long one, I doubt we'd be able to see all of it in one season.
And also, I don't think I love Qi Rong anymore. He really is a bad, bad boy...and not in the sexy way, but more in the holy shit you really are fucked up way.
Finally, the Yong'an thing... I'm already bracing myself. I could be wrong but I already see how that could lead to Xianle's downfall. The knives are probably coming, huh?

10 Characters, 10 Fandoms, 10 Tags
Tagged by @oddishblossom thank you 💖💖💖 now I have a reason to ramble about my faves. Here they are in no particular order:
1. Wei Wuxian (The Untamed/Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation). Oh man I just love him so much. The guy said no to rules but yes to morals. And shit happened and bad horrible mistakes were made, yet... it all made so much sense. Bonus points for living the dark villainy aes while also being an absolute sunshine of a person. Well not always but overall.
2. Dana Scully (The X Files). Man. Dude. SCIENCE. Love that for her. Always reasonable, always questioning things, always being the force of reason. In a show full of unexplained phenomenon she says all the things I want to say, never assuming the supernatural, always putting logic first. Honestly the x files has some ... icky sexist writing going on imho... but she is written as the main character and not a sidekick or pretty male companion so that is also a great thing bc honestly I don't think there are many great main female characters who are not reduced to... being a woman.
3. Princess Bubblegum (The Adventure Time). Once again. SCIENCE. She is an immortal entity just chilling. Creating conscious life. Performing questionably ethical experiments. Has a hot vampire girlfriend. Living my life goals tbh.
4. Xie Lian (Heaven Official's Blessing). similar to Wei Wuxian my man said morals first! And once again a lot of mistakes were made and a lot of bad things happened. Also has a hot ghost boyfriend.
5. Castiel (Supernatural). I know it is supernatural, but that guy? The guy who gripped you tight and raised you from perdition? Also the same guy who followed the bees? Made a lot of mistakes? Gained and lost power? Gay? Angel? Love that for him. While supernatural might be an absolute dumpster fire of a show there wasn't only bad things. I sometimes watch cas compilations like these to feel better 🙈
6. Songhwa (Hospital Playlist). I just love her? She is so smart and kind and she likes the rain and she is calm and aaaa. She wants to study for the rest of her life?? She wants to be a soloist of the group but cannot hold a note for her life? Girl. Same.
7. Howell Jenkins/Howl Pendragon (Howl's Moving Castle). My man is a glorious mess. Over dramatic, yet talented and powerful. A nerd in Wales but a fancy pancy wizard in Ingary. Has spiders for his best friends and runs from conflicts, weee, relatable. Such a loser he carries around a guitar he can't play only to look cool. But undercharges the poor and overcharges the rich! Chaotic energy is off the charts and I love that for him.
8. Janet (The Good Place). She is exactly what I have always wanted from an all-knowing entity! Not human and not a girl! I just love her!! She knows and recognizes how everything works yet she also knows that it is purely mechanical and there is a scope of emotions and meaning that humans put behind their understanding of the environment and that is what makes it beautiful. I also just love her did I say that?
9. Sokka (Avatar: The Last Airbender). Another science guy!! I love that he didn't have any special powers. He was just planning stuff, having 100 bad ideas and 5 good ones, yet still the mastermind of the group! I just really liked his stupid jokes and strategic planning and overall growth during the series. (I would also like to mention every character of ATLA bc dudes all the characters are so good I love that show)
10. Legolas (The Lord of The Rings). Love an absolutely useless man who just happened to be there to show off his luscious locks and elf eyes. I had a crush on him when I was 11 so I think that fact earns him a spot in here. He just is there and shoots his pretty little arrows and is tall and graceful wearing his pretty half up half down hairstyle being all confused.
Oof! This was fun!
Tagging, and of course don't do if you don't want to @coldjellyfishsoul @thegreatwhynot @dephlogis @gotyouundermyskin @bumblebee-bea @cookiesandcontemplation @readenheim @sunset-to-moonlight @bubblegumbabyboo @hmcbook (or your main idk) AND anyone who sees this and wants to do it!

hi! i absolutely LOVE your tgcf au thank you for writing it! i was wondering how he would interact with some of the more prominent canon characters, like the main couple, the three tumors as well as he xuan and sqx as well as their opinions on him since he’s like a giant outlier. i was also curious about how he got some of those ridiculous titles lmao. any particularly ridiculous adventures?
i haven’t actually gotten that far into tgcf so i don’t know who most of these characters are (whoops) but for xie lian? yrz took one look at the weirdo covered in bandages and went ‘oh my god a normal person’. after 2k years of dealing with some of the most arrogant d-bags around, yrz can clock the size of a person’s ego at fifty paces and xl? he’s a regular person with a regular ego. but then yrz learned who xl was and went... ‘.. oh no....a Protagonist...but...a normal conversation...’ and proceeded to slowly fail to keep away from xl because he was just so normal and nice! they friends =) . (possibly more??? is yrz gonna end up the filling in a cannon sandwich again??? idk i haven’t decided)
hua Cheng, after realizing what a sarcastic asshole yrz is due to Shenanigans Yet to Be Decided, likes him a lot pretty much against his will. like, almost as much as xl (he’s never gonna like anyone better than xl, let us be real). plus he’s never forgotten how many nights he didn’t go to sleep hungry due to yrz’s temples giving out food.
For titles, I only have the two mentioned in the fic so far, but i know he’s got a couple more. for Humble Scholar Bows to Lotus, he was dragged to a mortal party by some young idiot gods (this was around year one hundred of being a god and no one realized quite how powerful yrz would end up being so no one tried to make him stay in heaven) and got ditched there. he drinks in a corner because of course he does, and turns out it was some preeety strong wine -- like. strong enough to intoxicate a god. Why did these random humans have such strong wine? *shrug emoji*
so, yrz, drunk out of his mind, walks to the middle of a random lotus pond because he’s a god and fuck it he can cosplay Jesus if he wants. there’s only one lotus in the lake because it’s the wrong climate/season or whatever. all of the mortals around see him doing this and go what the fuck, because obviously. yrz sits in the middle of the pond and starts bitching about being ditched at a party again, isn’t he supposed to be beyond this as a god, blah blah, whatever. to the mortals, who can’t hear him, yrz looks like an ethereal young man dressed as a scholar who walked on water and started conversing with a single lotus flower sitting in the middle of the lake. after some time, the mortals witness yrz bow deeply to the lotus flower (’thanks for listening to my bitching’), get up, and turn into a pillar of light (ascending to heaven to sleep off the hangover). before he goes, he hiccups and loses control of his godly powers the tiniest bit. The lotus flower is now glowing slightly. after a second, it begins to grow and grow and grow until the whole pond is almost smothered with lotus flowers, every single one of them perfectly formed. one of the mortals recognizes yrz as a god from his homeland and says ‘he must have gained some advice about perseverance from the flower and helped it cultivate in gratitude!’ and everyone else goes sure that makes sense. they start praising yrz for his humble nature, a rare god willing to listen to the advice of a single lotus flower, hence Humble Scholar Bows to Lotus. yrz wakes up to a new title, a new shrine around the lotus pond, and a case of terminal embarrassment. he swears off drinking and parties altogether. (the shrine becomes the site of his biggest, most important temple, and the lotus flower still blooms there all year round.)
Blue Glass Blade Cuts Heaven is slightly less embarrassing, but yrz still refuses to think about it. one day yrz gets an offering from a famous glass sculptor -- an incredibly beautiful sword made of blue glass. Even the hilt and pommel are glass. yrz loves this sword, but he’s not big on purely ornamental things and his followers know that, so he goes to test it out like you do. he descended to the mortal world because gods are getting annoyingly curious about what he’s doing around this time (about 500 years after ascending, about half his generation is gone already but yrz just keeps getting stronger). he asks a lady where a place nobody lives is becasue he doesn’t want to hurt anyone while testing his cool new sword, and gains a guide in the form a scared young man. in fact, everyone is scared, but yrz isn’t paying attention because new sword. the guide takes yrz a day away to a place that feels dead, and yrz is please because yeah nothing lives here, sweet. Thanks guide, ignores guides stuttered warnings and draws his sword. guide isn’t leaving for some reason, so yrz points away from him -- and swings.
fun fact: the sword is not ornamental.
it not only doesn’t break, in fact, it’s so well made that it concentrates yrz’s qi into the cut. there's nothing but destruction for at least a mile. the clouds above are scattered. yrz is like hm. HM. hhhhhmm. that’s awkward. the guide starts thanking him in tears, babbling about some sort of evil tree or something sucking the life out of the area and apparently yrz cut it down on accident? yrz tells the guide his name because the guy won’t let go of his robes until he does, and nopes right out of there by meeting himself back up into heaven. miss me with that emotional shit, yo. only it turns out that the sword was strong enough to pierce all the way to heaven, and left a nasty gash in the main square. yrz goes to hide in his cave for a few years to avoid the backlash before anyone finds out it’s him. they do find out eventually, but no one is willing to push it by then for some reason. yrz is pleased he dodged a bullet.
until prayers start coming in for Blue Glass Blade Cuts Heaven. the rest is history.

How the MXTX protags + romantic leads feel about each other (pt 1)
How they feel about Luo Binge
Lan Wangji: Shameless. Troublesome. But . . .
Wei Wuxian: Loyal and fearless?
Lan Wangji: Mn.
Hua Cheng: If he wants to be useful to his loved ones, he should be less clingy and sticky.
Xie Lian: San Lang!
Hua Cheng: Gege I'm just being honest.
Xie Lian: (I know but do you really have to be THIS honest???)
Xie Lian: Aha. Luo Binghe has a good heart. He suffered a lot. I hope he can be happy from now on.
How they feel about Lan Wangji
Xie Lian: A genuinely righteous and upstanding gentleman. I would like to be his friend!
Hua Cheng: A good ally to have in your corner even if he is a bit stuck-up and set in his ways. I respect him.
Sheng Qingqiu: Where to start? This type of character . . . His beauty and principles really are too much, there's danger of upstaging the protagonist! Not to mention his character development, his devotion, his OP cultivation (did he really lift up that pillar and coffin by himself in the Guanyin temple?!) . . . There's no way he won't make a huge impression on the reader!
Luo Binghe: (already crying) Shizun do you like him this much?
How they feel about Hua Cheng
Wei Wuxian: His style is so cool! And he has a hint of mystery about him. But once you get to know him, he's pretty down to earth.
Lan Wangji: . . .
Wei Wuxian: What--you still don't trust him? But he waited so many years to be with his lover. Haha, just like you, Lan Zhan!
Luo Binghe: Hua Cheng did whatever it took to become strong enough to protect the one he cared about. Not only that, he stayed true to him for hundreds of years. I can only respect that.
Shen Qingqiu: . . .
Shen Qingqiu: (Saying it like that, aren't you just complimenting yourself?! But wait, they are alike--outlandish fashion sense, too powerful . . . Not to mention that Cave of 1000 Gods, thank goodness Binghe can't sculpt . . .)
Luo Binge: Shizun what are you thinking?

So I’m reading TGCF... (part 2)
Welcome to the second part of my TGCF readthrough. This is my first time reading Heaven Official’s Blessing and since I find MXTX’s storytelling very fascinating, I figured, I might as well blog my way through it. I don’t know if it’s gonna be anything interesting, and I’m not used to composing coherent thoughts in English, so please don’t be mean. If it’s uninteresting, just scroll through. *WARNING: Really spoilery and will definitely be more incoherent than the last one, ‘cause I’m writing this while reading, so these are basically just random thoughts or me trying to guess the plot:)
Stick around if you’ve already read the book from chapter 32 to chapter 42.
Chapter 32
(Xie Lian is called back to the Heavenly Court. We meet the crown prince of Yong’An and the Heavenly Emperor, Jun Wu. They start to discuss what happened at the Banyue Pass, and turns out that they know about Hua Cheng.) - I really like how the word ‘awkward’ is missing from Xie Lian’s dictionary XD - But I still find the heavenly parts quite boring. I’m guessing the info dumps will pay off in the later chapters, but for now... I can’t remember a single name, na-ah.... - ‘The spotlight, it seemed, was on him’. MXTX knows how to end chapters to make you want more, that’s for sure.
Chapter 33
(General Pei tries to blame everything on Hua Cheng then on the Guoshi of Banyue. Literally on anyone. But fortunately, Pei Junior admits his wrongdoings. The crown prince of Yong’An sleeps through the meeting.) - And here comes even more info on General Pei, so I’m thinking he continues to be an important character. I don’t like him. - Xie Lian’s cultivation method demands purity of the body and the mind...? Hm... that’s unfortunate in a danmei. Or so to say, makes things interesting:D - Well, Pei Junior admitting everything was unexpected...
Chapter 34
(Jun Wu talks privately with Xie Lian and sends him on a mission to save a heavenly official the identity of whom they don’t know yet. The mission is to sneak into the Ghost Realm. Lord Wind Master partners up with Xie Lian) - ‘It may no longer be appropriate for you to investigate this case, so come, let me tell you everything about it... Also, it’s okay if you are friends with Hua Cheng, just be careful.’ Jun Wu acts all fatherly, but that’s just strange. Is he a good guy? Or am I just suspicious about anyone and everyone now?? (NHS and JGY ruined me) - Whaaat?! That’s cool~ I think I like the Wind Master! He disguised himself as a woman, because he looked cute:D Well done on representation:D I want to know more about them. - Also Xie Lian cannot get himself to enter his new palace is sad :(
Chapter 35
(The two follows a group of female ghosts to sneak into the Ghost Market, which is a strange and creepy place. They soon get separated, when the Wind Master gets pulled away by the female ghosts and Xie Lian gets assaulted by a very dead prostitute.) - This chapter comments on gender norms and biases and does it so effortlessly that I have to raise my hat to MXTX. So the Wind Master can appear as a woman, because he was often depicted standing next to his brother and somewhere, somehow people started to worship him as a woman, since a woman is looking better next to a man (’handsome and beautiful make a pair’). In the same style, people started to worship Ling Wen as a man, because a lady cannot be a civil god. It is a ridiculous concept, but tells tales about the prejudices in people’s mind. - It’s a shame, she couldn’t convince Xie Lian to cross-dress, tho :P - Ghost market! This is fun~ (That scene of a boar cutting up a wiggling human leg... chef’s kiss. This is exactly the weird and disturbing shit I’m here for. And of course I’m reading this at 10PM) - Pft... can’t get erect X”””DDD I can’t with this guy, really. Xie Lian has no shame at all:D
Chapter 36
(Xie Lian enters the Gambler’s Den, where he meets up with the Wind Master. The Ghost King, Hua Cheng also plays that night. When a father wants to pay with the life of his daughter another person pops up: the crown prince of Yong’An. The naive prince tries to stop the unjust betting, but gets defeated by Hua Cheng. The Ghost King offers him as a prize to anyone, who wins against him. So naturally Xie Lian tries his best...) - Hua Cheng is such a badass! Also that martial god he decorated the ceiling with is kinda cute, as well... but if anyone dies, that would be him. - That reveal made my heart race... We finally got to see him in his true form! - Xie Lian’s legendary bad luck enters the chatXD
Chapter 37
(Hua Cheng says Xia Lian’s dicing form is bad, and he starts tutoring him in front of the whole crowd. He also asks for a prize in case Xie Lian would lose. Our protag offers a half-eaten bun. He tutors him until Xie Lian wins.) - Okay, the flirting is INTENSE! in this one >///< I love them. Also... A half-eaten bun? Xie Lian, save the poor guy some face and at least offer your left hand (or your undying devotionXD) as a bet:D
Chapter 38
(Since Xie Lian lost a bunch before winning, Hua Cheng still asks for the bun, and eats it. Thus the crown prince of Yong’An, Qianqiu gets saved. But as they roam the city, Xie Lian sees a familiar figure) - AND HE ACTUALLY EATS THE BUN! I can’tX”””””DDDD - I like this Qianqiu guy, he’s cute. Not very useful, but adorable. - Oh! Could this be the kid, with the human face disease?! Another one of those cruel chapter endings.
Chapter 39
(Xie Lian notices the boy with the human face disease and starts to chase him, while Qianqiu gets into a fight, so they get separated again. Xie Lian loses the boy, and gets into trouble, but the Waning Moon Officer gets there just in time. This ghost officer works for Hua Cheng. He tells Xie Lian, that the Ghost King wants to see him, then escorts him to the Paradise Manor) - Yes, it’s him! The kid, with the human face disease. - Meet up in three days?? Not one or two hours but THREE DAYS? What are you planning to do for three days in the ghost realm? Also why exactly did we bring the other two along if we’re ditching them all the time, huh?! Well, goodbye cute heavenly officials. We’ll see each other in THREE DAYS. - Now I get it. We needed some space for Hua Cheng and Xie Lian to be able to meet.
Chapter 40
(And they speak and its cute. Hua Cheng offers to help searching for the boy. His officer finds him immediately. They interrogate him then take him in) - Let me note that Hua Cheng is really refreshing as ‘the love interest’ (or very good friend for now). Yes, he’s secretive and mysterious, but he’s willing to talk about himself, not restricting the protagonist, not being violent, helping out but not sheltering him, has a very distinct worldview, and is not scared to be emotional. Also he’s snarky and easily amused and makes fun of people, while being a badass all along. What’s there not to love.
Chapter 41
(Hua Cheng has to leave because his sword warns him of trouble. Meanwhile Xie Lian gets suspicious on the Waning Moon Officer, and on Hua Cheng, as well. He finds a room that only opens if you throw two sixes with dice, so he obviously can’t get into. Then Hua Cheng gets back to the Manor and shows Xie Lian his armory, and I’m in love.) - A bit of sneaking around is fun:) - That’s a very peculiar sword Hua Cheng has. Hm... I have my theories about the sword :) - Also about the Waning Moon Officer and his ‘tatoo’. - What’s with all of these masks, tho. (the officer, the white-clothed calamity, the people on the street....) - Nnnn... I don’t like Xie Lian being mistrustful. I get it, but still. - I’d be just as giddy in an armory as Xie Lian! I want to touch pretty swords, as well~~
Chapter 42
(Hua Cheng introduces his sword, E’Ming to the protag. The sword seems to be alive and is kind of cute. Hua Cheng holds a banquette for Xie Lian and during the banquette he gives him some of his luck. The Wind Master also sneaks into the Ghost Kings Manor, and as the night falls, the two starts to sneak around again.) - What the actual fuck, E’Ming is cute! >///< And we’re patting a sword and the sword likes it... Should that be symbolic, or...? - I want to borrow luck, too! I could really use some! Anyone? Do you have some extra luck which you could transfer? (Not necessary through hand holding) - Hua Cheng gets so irritated by the fact that Xie Lian’s cultuvation method forbids promiscuity. XDDDD Oh, poor you. This is gonna be though XD - And more sneaking around. I would feel bad, too. Xie Lian, that’s not nice.

Okay, I want to pull together more detailed thoughts at some point, I think, because the sheer amount of material means I have about ten billion thoughts to sort out. But I’ve read all three of the mxtx novels now, and loved all of them, in different ways. Though I already tried to figure out if I can pick a Favorite, and tbh, I can’t. I love them all in ways that are too distinct to let me rank them easily. And... man, it’s lucky for my friends that social distancing is in place, or I’d be hassling them shamelessly to give these novels a try.
RIGHT. So.
The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System: Shen Yuan goes to bed full of rage directed at a trashy webnovel with a grimdark blackened hero who conquered the world and collected hundreds of women into his harem.... and wakes up in novel, while that hero is still an innocent youth. As the hero’s abusive teacher. Who is doomed for a horrifying death unless he can somehow turn things around.
I think I had the most fun with this one. I really enjoy self-referential stories, and stories poking fun at certain genres, and I’ve run into the concept of transmigration before (the idea being a person enters a fictional world, a la lost in austen), though I’m blanking on any media like that I’ve actually consumed. This was chronologically the first book mxtx wrote, and it has less of a sprawling cast with complicated relationships than the other two books, but it definitely has the thing where she lays early groundwork for later revelations that shatter my poor heart.
And there may be fewer relationships to play with, but my GOD, do I love the relationships we got. I’ve been rolling around in svsss fanfic since I finished the book, even more so than mdzs or tgcf. There’s a lot of good crunchy relationship content with the 79 ship (they destroy me, all day every day), Liu Qingge owns my whole-ass heart, and Luo Binghe makes for a fascinating love interest. I love that even at his best, he remains a needy, needy, manipulative boy, who’s so smart and strong and nEEDY. I don’t love how the book handled moshang, but mmmm the fan content is Good. And Shen Qingqiu does the unreliable narrator thing that is usually not my jam, but works so WELL in these books, in that his unreliable narration is hugely skewed towards not giving himself nearly as much credit as he deserves. Xie Lian takes this to UNBELIEVABLE heights in tgcf, but in Shen Qingqiu’s case, it’s done on such a casual, immediate, personal level that I’m fascinated by everything he does.
And, since Shen Yuan/Shen Qingqiu is a millennial fan of trashy romance webnovels who gets yanked into the universe of a novel he hates, into an old-timey xianxia setting, the prose is SO COOL. You swing between modern slang and old school high society courtesies at the drop of a hat, and I’m honestly awed that the translators were able to catch so much of that. Like, in-setting, I love all the nuance you can get in ‘qi-ge should give his a-jiu the scroll’ vs ‘yue-shixiong should give this teacher the scroll’ vs ‘you should give me the scroll’. But then it adds a whole new layer when the person ALSO has modern-day casual speech bouncing around in their head. It makes for a fascinating, fascinating reading experience.
The Grandmaster Of Demonic Cultivation: Thirteen years ago, Wei Wuxian died. And then he wakes up! In someone else’s body. I’m not going to try to summarize the premise of this one, go look up The Untamed if you want someone to do a better job of this than me XD
Ahhh, this was the book I read first. I still haven’t watched the show (only clips) and I’m not sure I ever will, because adhd is a hell of a drug. But it’s hard to purely evaluate the prose when there’s also this gorgeous, beautifully-acted visual adaptation all over my tumblr to bias me in its favor. I think this book benefits a lot from the MYSTERY of it all. From the very start, there’s the question of ‘what the fuck is up with this goddamn arm’ that the characters pursue, even as that takes them through flashbacks and other arcs within the story. It gives a thrust to the novel that I think isn’t exactly there in tgcf, though I’m torn on which one is “better.” This gave the story momentum, yes, but it also meant I was much more impatient in yi city and the 3zun flashbacks, because this isn’t what I was focused onnnnnn this is cool but how much longer will we BE HERE--
That being said, I think I’ll be more patient with those flashbacks on my next time through the book, now that I have a better picture of where everything is headed. I think the balance and structure of the book worked really well, I was setting myself up for self-sabotage because of the pace I was plowing through the thing. My reading habits didn’t lend themselves well to the nonlinear storytelling, and it speaks to the story’s strength that it held up that well despite me. And the CAST. My GOD. I went in not caring about anyone but Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji and maybe the jackass nephew, but... that Did Not Last. I didn’t intend to care about 3zun? Nope, too bad, you care so much now. Who cares about Xue Yang? Me. I care. Way too much. HECK!!!
And something that happens in this book and tgcf that was much less of a thing in svsss is that there are some meaningful holes in the story that I’d like to be filled, and I really care about filling-- and the story doesn’t go there. But it doesn’t leave me unhappy, it leaves me cheerfully scrabbling around in the throwaway details trying to piece together a picture of what happened when I wasn’t looking. What happened to Wei Wuxian in the burial mounds? How did Hua Cheng take control of the ghost city? Idk, but let us Rummage and theorize and roll around in ideas and have a fantastic, speculative time. Svsss might hook me more than the other stories from an au+shipping perspective, but mdzs and tgcf do a great job of making me want to roll around and create within the bounds of canon.
Heaven Official’s Blessing: 800 years ago, Xie Lian ascended to heaven. And fell. And rose again! And fell again. Now he’s ascended for the third time, and things are Awkward.
God, I just finished this, and I’m still reeling. This is the LONGEST mxtx book, that’s for sure. I also think it’s the most tightly edited translation. All the translators did an unbelievable job, I could never even approach what they accomplished, but I am genuinely stunned that a book this long was edited so well. I blew through this in about 3.5 days (if not for work, i could have made it in three dghsafdsgf) and my brain was cooking in my skull by the time I was halfway through, but I couldn’t STOP. I was ENCHANTED the entire time! I was reading so much my head was destroying me and I still sulked so HARD every time I had to put my phone down and sleep.
This book sprawls the hardest, I think, because it involves a cast made of mostly immortal/immortal-adjacent people, so time and space get... flexible. And I feel really bad saying this, because Lan Wangji is DEVOTED, but this is seriously the book with the most attentive and adoring and respectful love interest. Hua Cheng is..... god. I truly don’t think I’ve EVER read a character quite like him before, and I am so, so sad, because I don’t know how I’ll find one who lives up to these heights ever again XD I recommend reading this book just for the Hua Cheng experience, if nothing else. I was making audible noises at literally flailing at multiple points in the story, but most often, it was because of him.
Shipping is what usually drags me into a fandom hardest, and all of these books do pretty well for themselves, all of them have a nice selection of fluffy and crunchy ships to choose from. And this one... goddammit. I just realized, that the best, most crunchy ships are too spoilery for me to be willing to talk about them here. Hell. Goddammit. But I think tgcf has the crunchiest ship of all, even better than xuexiao. I was so invested, and then there were Reveals, and then I was like OH NO THIS IS TERRIBLE BUT MY INVESTMENT HAS EXPONENTIALLY INCREASED.
And something that I really, really appreciate, is that across the mxtx books, even though a lot of characters fit into strong archetypes, there’s nobody that is blurring together for me, either within or across the books. Liu Qingge isn’t Jiang Cheng isn’t Feng Xin. They’re all blunt, fighty boys, but all super distinct in my head, and what I want for each of them is distinct and character-driven. I want Liu Qingge to be properly cherished and I want Jiang Cheng to relax with his brother and nephew and I want Feng Xin to [goddammit i don’t want to spoil this book AGH]. It’s something I appreciated in the other books too, but I can really FEEL it in this book, with how long and luxurious it is.
And last thing I have to say, I think, is that tgcf is so long. It’s so, so long. But I would FITE if anyone tried to pare it down at all. I can’t think of anything I’d be willing to sacrifice. I enjoyed every last piece of it so much, and it was all ultimately SO well-constructed and interlocking, that any piece I can think of snipping out would take away significant emotional impact from what was left. It’s a nonlinear story, like mdzs is nonlinear, and I loved mdzs a lot! But the construction here is so, so, so elegant. I’m just in AWE of how well it was assembled. I was in Agony as reveals happened, because oh no no no no, now that they’ve told me this, that casts this whole other scene in a brand new light! The one I read hundreds of thousands of words ago! Literally, I need to go start the book over so I can savor the shitty teens in new ways, given [redacted] as revealed in like, the last twenty percent of the book. The book was a fun experience, but there’s so Much here that I know I haven’t even absorbed yet. I loved the other mxtx books a lot, and in many ways, they were easier to get a grasp on than tgcf was, but even before I finished tgcf I was already despairingly trying to figure out how easily I could fit a full reread into my life, and I think that says a lot

for the AU meme, I must ofc ask for TGCF without the fate-swap *chinhands*
(five things about an au)
1. Okay, so He Xuan is much more stable in this AU! Still pretty quiet but much more certain of their (his? How much of He Xuan's Gender Issues are being dead?) personality. They're a civil god, DEFINITELY have a cool hat, not exactly friends with Ling Wen but they make faces at each other in meetings when the martial gods are being particularly... Martial God. They're also friends with alive and un-indentity-thefted Ming Yi!
2. SQX was a Middle Heaven official for a while but did end up losing that position and dying due to the Reverend. She doesn't have enough resentment and drive to become a full Supreme, but she IS righteously angry enough to become a Wrath. She kills the Reverend, causes a few tornadoes, and is generally... mischevious but benevolent? A wind-spirit-y ghost, naturally.
3. In this AU Shi Wudu's big Secret is that a) he HATES He Xuan, because he did actually want to pull a fate swap but just didn't have time, and b) he covers up a lot of SQX's activities. Again it's not nescessarily that she's doing anything terrible? It's just that he can't stand to not Hover.
4. He Xuan is still good at acting. They do actually infiltrate ghost city in this AU. They only have one or two clones, though, not a whole army.
5. He Xuan and Ming Yi (real version) are good friends with the Windmaster (whoever that might be.) SQX tags along for reasons of it's more fun to play windy tricks on people who can play windy tricks on you back.
Edit: also I think things would be more difficult for Xie Lian without a godly friend helping him! hrm... lots to think about.

reading tgcf chapters 72 - 88 end of book 2. body horror kind of in this one. if you know you know and i did include an excerpt of it
i didnt take any notes from 72-76 but uhhhh shit has hit the fan
Tumblr media
fuuuuuuck. but he couldnt get there fast enough and then THAT happened to that family FUCK :(
Tumblr media
xie lian has indeed been greatly sheltered and this is a painful if inevitable moment. very curious about where he goes from here :(
Tumblr media
:pensive: the universe has its own rhythm. perhaps it does but im wondering if this is part of it orrrrrrr
wait theres a girl. shes pretty. feng xin is impressed by her this is a first. is she going to be important? is it too much to ask for? to see a girl do things?
xie lian and the king... i sad. but the anger is real from both sides regardless of their arguments. i sad
Tumblr media
ahhh flashbacks to religious studies. read a whole essay about contagion magic vs similarity magic. pretty sure it was by one of those early anthropologists who were ummm racist but this is definitely a thing that people do
damn so xie lian’s first experience of killing anyone was during the revolt and he killed thousands. wow. “mere ants” like those crushed for him by servants. hoooo boy
Tumblr media
:pleading: hes so good and im so sad for him to painfully learn that just being good isn’t enough
Tumblr media
awwwww. </3
ohhh wait i think the epub version doesnt spoiler out the authors notes awwww i was enjoying the mystery but okay. not sure if i would have guessed this without tbh theres a lot of kids (2) running around with bandages in this book. but i guess the saber thing isnt likely to be anything else. also ohhhhhhhhh hong hong-er... little reddie... ah i see now :(
land of the tender; body of gold hard pressed against desire. hmmmm. im. hmmm. remember that scene with the prostitute in ghost city and how i was glad it ended quickly? i miss those days. i mean murderous desires/lustful desires okay sure thats something fine but. hmm not so sure how i feel about the rest of this. and the hair thing has significance according to the notes. i mean. hmm. moving on for now. ive seen spoilers for more about hualian’s relationship but im gonna wait to comment on it until i know everything
i would actually be curious to see feng xin and mu qing interact without xie lian when theyre still having to work together i wonder if they are more chill or less chill bc clearly feng xin cares a lot about xie lian and im wondering what theyre like with each other without him around. to be fair tho since theyre his generals im not sure if theres much room for that
human face disease time. oh boy. things really are only getting worse. im also suspecting that this disease was intentionally brought into the city to hasten its downfall but we shall see
Tumblr media
saving this for the illustration of the differences between feng xin and mu qing. not sure what it says about me but im finding mu qing relatable that is 100% what i would do but i feel much more fond of feng xin. interesting
Tumblr media Tumblr media
thank you for being a beacon of amusement in these trying times. distract your bickering friends by forcing them to play improv games. also the differences between fx and mq continue to interest me
Tumblr media
awfully convenient there guoshi. i have to say that its looking more and more like the bad shit thats happening in xianle was actually not to do with xie lian. the fact that the yong’an rebels were being supplied? whatever the fuck is going on with lang ying.... i could be wrong but thats what im thinking im wondering how much of this was already laid out or at the very least poised to happen before xie lian intervened
here it comes this is the unsettling body horror bit
Tumblr media
BRUHHHHHHHH. HORRIFIC. IM SORRY BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT IN ADAPTATION FOR THE CHILLS IT WOULD GIVE ME.
hmmm after this its mu qing who is like “hey ummm you kinda just chopped that guy’s leg off when he hadn’t actually asked you to. kinda fucked up also could definitely turn on you” makes sense that it was mu qing who said that he’s clearly very smart and bc of his background he’s more likely to think of things from a different perspective than xie lian and feng xin. he’s been scornful of commoners before but he definitely understands them more so than the other two
Tumblr media
just when i thought this couldnt get more horrific. no rest for anyone what an awful fate
Tumblr media
saving this as a note on mu qing as a character and his attitude towards xie lian. what xie lian says here about the curse is interesting. the faces/souls vs the ones they are infecting. its awful for both of them and neither are the only truly at fault theyre being pit against each other
its telling that mu qing is the one who is telling xie lian that line about there not being a second cup of water. also BIG ARGUMENT im bookmarking this to come back to in the present day
looks like celestial palace is coming down and im bitterly remembering the fact that xie lian toppled his own statue earlier to let lang ying get away... who then presumably planted the curse.... sighs
Tumblr media
the bits with xie lian’s parents made me tear up. this is, what the kids call, relatable.
Tumblr media
hmmm dont think feng xin is always going to feel this way lmao
Tumblr media
oohh that is a cool image
Tumblr media
i.... sad. and so book 2 ends!!! im wondering when we find out exactly how the split between our trio went down. im sure its sad
politically im still not sure exactly what the message is trying to be i mean obviously theres corruption that completely throws the poor under the bus but so far its also been clear that xie lian actually cant do anything about it. but!!! also xie lian doesnt understand a lot about the world, he’s been sheltered and he’s a prince and he wants to save the world and i love him for that but he hasn’t seen what the reality of life is for a lot of people he’s looking at everything from the position of the nobility and even with all his kindness i dont think thats ever enough to bring about meaningful change. how can it? idk but we still got a LONG ways to go
