something I’ve been thinking abt is how many people think Makoto is immune to despair. I don’t think he is. I think becoming the ultimate Hope was BECAUSE he felt despair. He wouldn’t have fully reached that point without Junko. Makoto becoming such a beacon was his last attempt to avoid completely falling and it wasn’t because he didn’t feel despair, it was because he was too damn stubborn to allow everything to go to waste and he refused to sacrifice his beliefs for someone else’s. His inner monologue tells me he DID experience the same new low the other suvivors did in the final trial, but at the point where he had the choice to give up and die, he looked at the others and he looked at Junko and he couldn’t allow it to happen, not out of self preservation, but because the idea that Junko would have control over their lives made him FURIOUS. and that utter refusal to die kicked in, wether luck or otherwise, and he made the concious effort for one last push while something in him was breaking. He had to be broken in order for the Ultimate Hope to come through so aggressively, bc it could only exist in the face of the Ultimate Despair. He snapped the same way she did, but in the other direction. In what could have been his final moments he chose to embody everything Junko wasn’t, and every single optimistic and luck fueled ideal in him suddenly charged forward and pushed him. It was a combination of the final straw and a choice. Makoto isn’t immune to feeling despair, he’s just too stubborn to fall into it of his own volition. I think that’s why I like that scene in DR3 so much. People were SO SHOCKED Makoto actually fell for the tape, that he actually became despair for a moment. I saw people getting mad or disappointed, saying it was pathetic and Makoto seemed to fall from some sort of pedestal for them. Honestly part of me wonders if that sort of mentality, which clearly people had in universe, affected Makoto a bit. Like he started to see himself as less of a person, subconsciously. Prompting him to take more risks, less self preservation, act way more bold. It seems he has to be reminded a lot not to put himself in danger by his friends, to not do something too reckless. All over the place I would see in regards to that scene either this frivolous ‘oh this was just angst drama with no meaning behind it’ or ‘he can do better than that. he’s so weak’ or ‘come on, there’s no way he’d fall into despair, he’s the Ultimate Hope!’ This kind of mentality, which was kind of ironic considering Ryota was there the entire time saying the same thing and treating Makoto the same way. Like Makoto was superhuman. Like Makoto didn’t feel despair the same way ‘normal people’ did. In a way that was also how Munakata saw Makoto. Makoto stopped being a PERSON to the world when he became Ultimate Hope, he became a concept, a belief system, much the same way Junko ascended beyond herself. But the difference is that treating Makoto that way is the opposite of the reason Makoto became such a representative for hope. He wasn’t doing something no one else could. He was doing something everyone had the chance to, he just… was a little more optimistic, a little more stubborn, a little more ‘gung-ho’ about things. He just took the lead where no one else did, where no one else knew they even COULD in the face of Junko’s unstoppable force. She had overcome the biggest threats and obstacles in the world, what could one person do? And the answer Makoto found was, anything. Everything. It doesn’t all rest on Makoto, he’s just the one that was inspired to try to do what seemed like the impossible. But as evidenced by the change in his friends after that trial, it’s clearly not something only Makoto is capable of. The others pulled out of despair thanks to Makoto, but it was their choice to do so.

jaehaerys is the bogeyman to every woman he comes in contact with. i can’t speak for everyone when i say this is the reason (there is no shortage of hateworthy men in asoiaf… looking at you hoster tully) but for me the absolute rage i have for jaehaerys comes down to him being at the center of every targ girl’s downfall. rhaena was disinherited for him. he disinherits his own daughter on account of her sex saying well she’ll be the queen as if that is any real power in the world he sets out to create. he cages his own wife (his sister) in the prison of queenhood leaving her to quote unquote more womanly pursuits like i don’t know getting rid of first right and domestic abuse? not to mention him marrying off his very young daughters to old ass men over and over again. not to mention the saera debacle and it’s many implications for his relationship to his daughters. and then of course when he disinherited yet another woman through rhaenys (and his own firstborn son just because his heir was a woman).

since we're all having fun talking about theories and headcanons before the game drops. one thing that i do want for missing link, that is mostly wishful thinking on my part, is a reveal for kairi being a descendant of the player

this is based on their parallels of being shooting stars later found washed up on a beach from the new missing link trailer, plus that one moment from KH1 where kairi's grandma tells her about the age of the fairytales and nothing else lmfao

and i want that so badly because. it would be so fucking ironic and poetic to have kairi be a direct descendant of the one person that raised and cared so much for xehanort. the player, whose memories of ephemer and skuld and chirithy and everyone else influenced xehanort into starting his whole ass spiral and descent into darkness

only for her (and sora) to be the ones to get xehanort to stop in the end. ending a cycle of sorts. for her to be haunted by the memory of xehanort, the same way xehanort was "haunted" by the memory of the player's past life

PLUS. i want it to SPECIFICALLY recontextualize kairi's inheritance of the keyblade from BBS. because kairi's reason to wield a keyblade being nothing more than an "accident" feels like such a disservice to her AND aqua??

if they could recontextualize xehanort into whole new depths in dark road, i dont see why they couldn't reframe that moment as kairi reclaiming a dormant power, her own heritage that her bloodline forgot for centuries, since knowledge about keyblades and wielders began to fade out over time to the point where people who KNEW about them thought they were evil. makes sense that as the age of fairytales is left FORGOTTEN, no one can remember how to summon a keyblade, let alone the knowledge to create one from someone's heart. but having a strong heart (one of the requisites for bequeathing ceremonies) and being in direct contact with a keyblade, could just. help jog the memory a bit

and show that yeah. kairi deserves to wield a keyblade because she has a strong heart, and because this was her heritage that was taken away from her when the worlds began to drift away from each other and so on. not because of an accident

everytime chance, fate and destiny are brought up in the saga to explain why something. happened the way it did. it carries so much weight and so many events that led to That Point. but kairi's inheritance as of right now was just. yeah, an accident. no ceremony at all AND I JUST THINK SHE DESERVES RLLY COOL THINGS OKAY

I need to share something absolutely hysterical.

Last night, I was playing a game that had different categories with questions (ex who is this character? Who said this? Where is this from?). You get twenty seconds to answer and unlimited guesses. The faster you type in the answer, the more points you get.

One of the categories was Memes & Internet. You could change the difficulty - easy, medium, and hard. We went through easy and medium (although those seemed less based on obscurity and what was more recent - more recent being in medium). It was of the caliber of Surprised Pikachu, Pen Pineapple Apple Pen, Pepe, Distracted Boyfriend - y'know, normal stuff.

And then hard mode. I'll be honest I don't remember which ones they were, but they didn't seem too obscure. It cycled through ones everyone knew and no one knew. Naturally, the scores were pretty close together. At this point, only one more correct answer was needed to win (for me and two others).

The next prompt popped up. It was a screenshot. The background had a grainy yellow and orange checkered floor and matching yellow columns. In the foreground was a poorly rendered 3D Sans Undertale and Danganronpa's very own Nagito Komaeda, both mid dance.

Now, in this game if you type an incorrect answer your opponents can see it. That means if you have the right answer and you spell or word it wrong they have a shot of guessing right before you. They will also see that you wrote Fingers In His Ass, with no context, if it's wrong. So this was high stakes, but clearly no one else knew what it was and I was one of the slowest typers there. I didn't know if I'd get another shot.

So while everyone was writing Sans or Undertale, and making various sounds of confusion, I quickly typed out Fingers In His Ass, hesitated for a second, and submitted

It was correct. I had won, so long as nobody else knew what it was, I was safe.

But that's not where the story ends, for you see after a round is over, the answer is revealed. Everyone else knew that I knew, because the game also shows if you got the correct answer. So while I was loudly celebrating my victory, they were questioning how and why I knew it as well as expressing slight concern.

Through my hysterical cheers and laughter I got out, "It's a tumblr thing! It's a tumblr thing! Y'know, Fingers in His Ass Sunday? It's like Out of Touch Thursdays, it's not that weird. We just use it to track time, okay? It's fine. Don't worry about it."

So now my church friends probably have a very weird perception of tumblr.

While Tails is definitely more closed off and a little colder to people in my Scrapnik Sonic au, I do want to state that he only overreacts/gets aggressive due to certain things. I specifically want to talk about this in regards his first encounter with Scrapnic.

When it comes to robots that don't/can't attack him he usually gives them a chance, since it's what Sonic would do, or leaves them be. So then what makes his first encounter with Scrapnic different? Well theres a few factors to this.

The most lowkey reason is due to waking up in unfamiliar territory. He wasn't strapped down or anything so he's not on extreme alert but hes definitely wary. Who knows what he'll find...

The next thing is that Scrapnic kinda startles him. You see, when Scrapnic heard Tails was here he was ready to beg Sigma to see him. But since Sigma didn't want to scare him when he awoke he asked that Scrapnic at least wait outside the room. This means that when Tails exits the room he's immediately greeted by a possible enemy. So this combined with the fact that Tails can only assume what hes looking at is a Metal Sonic definitely made him go on the defensive. Because despite not being attacked, Metal Sonics are more intelligent than your average badnik. So not being immediately attacked doesn't count for much.

Then there's what actually sets Tails off. It's the fact that Scrapnic tries to explain that he's Sonic. Now while it may not seem like a reason to attack or get aggressive, think about what that looks like from Tails' perspective.

He wakes up in unfamiliar territory so he's already on guard. When he exits the room he's almost immediately alerted to a possible enemy right next to him. While he didn't immediately get attacked or anything this is a Metal Sonic which, like I said earlier, is more intelligent than your average badnik. It could be plotting something for all Tails knows.

Then this Metal Sonic claims to be his dead brother.

It's already a sore spot for Tails, but for a version of Metal Sonic to claim such a thing? A creation of the very man who killed his brother?

It sets him off.

How dare this thing, this creation of the man who killed his brother, claim to be him?! He knows that Sonic is dead, he's tried everything to find him!

Does this thing think he's stupid? Doesn't know that it's just trying to manipulate him? Well guess the hell what!? He's not some grieving idiot whose gonna jump at any opportunity that might imply Sonic is alive!!!

This thing is going to pay for trying to use Sonic's name as some sort of bait against him...

And yeah honestly the name thing is so funny lmao, my personal favourite has to be Joel Alex though like 😭😭😭 the only band I can think of where no one has a matching name with anyone else is St Aurora (those guys are called Nile, Eemi, Oskari, Petja and Vallu, congrats for the slightly more unique names) but I'm 100% sure that if you dug deep enough you'd find matches for them too in the music industry

If you are not on Twitter but are interested in what's going on with Elon Musk's Twitter, never fear, I am back as your Twitter Correspondent.

So, on Thursday, 4/20, Elon removed all the "legacy verified" blue checks. That means that if you are, say, Taylor Swift or the Pope, and you have a blue checkmark because you have proven you identity and want to avoid being impersonated, that check mark went away unless you paid the $8 to subscribe to Twitter Blue.

The assumption was clearly that, despite all their blustering, when push came to shove the power users would nut up and pay for it, if only to avoid their fans being scammed using their likeness.

That didn't happen. As of 4/21, only weirdo Elon stans had blue checks. Those stans immediately got mad, because they had intended to purchase access to an exclusive club, and all the cool kids left as soon as they arrived.

To make matters worse for Elon, several influential shitposters began posting about #BlockTheBlue, a movement to block all paid Twitter bluechecks, and some even released scripts that would automatically block all bluecheck accounts for you.

However, some people retained their blue checks who swore they hadn't paid for them -- in particular, Stephen King and LeBron James, who had tweeted that they would refuse to pay.

Elon admitted that he had paid for these users' blue checks out of his own pocket. Is he trolling? Is it a weird simp move? Hard to say.

Now, as of 4/22, a whole mess of famous people have bluechecks who aren't paying for them. This seems to be a move to confound the automated Block The Blue scripts. Lil Nas X is tweeting angrily about how he doesn't want his blue check. People are speculating that a new policy has been silently rolled out to automatically assign a blue check to every user with over 1 million followers. Several people have pointed out that this amounts to false endorsement, i.e. implying falsely that a notable person uses or endorses your product without their permission, which is a crime. Blue checks have been posthumously assigned to Anthony Bourdain and Terry Pratchett, whose estates my money is on to be the ones to actually sue.

dril, famous shitposter and Block The Blue promoter, keeps being assigned a blue check as an apparent punishment for crossing Elon, but you can lose your blue check by changing your display name. (It seems really wild to tie the blue check to the display name and not use the username, but it became necessary after the era where all those legacy verified folks unleashed their inner Jaboukie and changed their display names to Elon Musk. As recently as last month a legacy verified user with 100k followers got banned for impersonating JK Rowling apologizing to trans people.) So dril just keeps changing his display name every time they bluecheck him. Elon and dril have been engaged in this game of cat and mouse all day. The "Elon bans dril and we all throw trash at him like New Yorkers defending spiderman" meme will probably come to fruition today or tomorrow.
