a/n: there are multiple times where i mention a tiny life or a baby and i would like to make it clear that the reader is 2 weeks pregnant and is not carrying a baby. she is carrying a fetus, this is a pro choice blog and i will not tolerate any pro life propaganda being spread, i chose to use those words because i thought they fit well, but like the rest of this story they are fiction. on a lighter note, is overexaggeration not a word?? i really thought it was a word. i was going to write “what bucky would be like while you’re pregnant” next but i’m open to feedback and future ideas, so if you would like to please send in a request! i would love to hear what you guys want to see, thank you and happy reading!

so many emotions. i’m sure the pregnancy is partially to blame but if i’m being honest, i have no idea what bucky’s going to think. we’ve talked about kids and marriage and it’s something we both want in the future, not right now. our one year anniversary was just last month, i don’t want to ruin what we have, but i know i have to tell him. it wouldn’t be fair to keep this from him, if he doesn’t want it then i’ll abort it. being a mom is something i’ve always wanted, and i know bucky would make a great dad, and i think a part of him knows it too. i’m not going to jeopardize his progress over an accident, even if a part of me wants to keep it. the bump, hearing the heartbeat, painting the nursery, buying the small clothes, watching bucky holding our child, i want that, i really really want that. but if he doesn’t, i’m okay with that. i love bucky, and i will wait until a time where he is ready and as eager as i am to have a baby.

time skip: 2 days later

i got a blood test just to make sure, i couldn’t help myself from crying when i saw that i was actually pregnant. two weeks along with bucky barnes’ baby. the nurse told me that i would need to figure out what i was going to do with it before the symptoms started to set in. i didn’t mention that i was already feeling pretty under the whether and i guess thats due to the serum. i wasn’t really listening to her, so fixated on the tiny life growing inside of me. bucky would be home soon and i need to tell him, even though i feel like shit and i've already detected the miserable feeling of nausea creeping though my body, he needs to know. how exactly i’m going to tell him? no idea. i know i’m going to sit him down, i don’t know if i’ll be able to say it if i’m looking at him so maybe i’ll have my back to his chest. i could make him some tea first, that would make him calm before i completely shift his reality. my thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the door opening and bucky’s soft voice calling out for me, asking me what room i’m in.

“y/n?”, how long has he been standing there? he looks worried, have i told him yet? i can’t seem to piece myself together, i thought this would be easier. i’ve told this man everything about me, he knows every secret i thought no one would ever want to hear. he knows every stupid thing i thought wasn’t worth mentioning, he knows me.

“honey you don’t look so good”, he muttered out while placing his right hand on my forehead. i noticed the thin layer of sweat that stuck itself to my skin when i felt calloused fingers make contact.

“no fever. you feeling ok?”, i could feel the tears coming, my vision becoming blurry. despite my hazy surroundings i could make out his face, it was filled with concern. and yet i couldn’t make a sound, the fear of potential rejection was the only thing on my mind. my eyes overflowed, and he sat down alongside me on the couch.

“y/n. what’s wrong? can you talk to me sweetheart?”, the beginning of the plan i thought i had was set on fire and thrown out the window the second i heard the door open. i gathered all of my remaining strength and wiped my eyes with shaky hands.

“i’m pregnant”, the words came out broken and not at all clear. i watched his reaction, eyes going wide, face getting a little paler. it seemed like every emotion known to mankind was flashing before his eyes.

when he finally did speak, he said something i wasn’t at all expecting, “i’m gonna be a dad?” his eyes now filled with tears, his shaking hands grasping mine.

“yes, if you want to keep it, yes.”, part of me couldn’t believe that he was even considering this.

“i want to keep it, oh my god of course i want to keep it. do you?”, all i could do was nod before i was pulled into what felt like the tightest hug of my life.

he pulled back pretty quickly, noticing how much strength he put into it, “are you okay? i’m sorry, i didn’t mean to squeeze you to death.” before i could open my mouth to answer, the nausea from earlier came back, much much stronger. running to the bathroom with a very confused bucky not far behind, i lowered myself to my knees and felt the joy of motherhood start, this time in the form of morning sickness.

when i was done, bucky removed his hands that were stroking my back and pulled me into his chest. “you alright?” the words were muffled due to the kisses he was placing into the crown of my head. after i hummed out a yes, we continued to sit there, enjoying each other’s company. he got up first, helping me up with him, leading me to the sink, he picked me up and placed me on the counter. as he started to get my toothbrush ready i couldn’t help but notice the huge grin on his face, he shook his head slightly and i knew exactly what he was thinking.

“i can’t believe i get to live this life with you”

he’s said it a million times before, no words are necessary to get the his point across.

“how far along are you”

“about two weeks, i a blood test to be certain, i just got the results this morning.”

i could see a worried look coming back onto his face, “is everything okay, with the serum and everything? is that gonna mess anything up for you or the baby?”

“the nurse said something about it, i’m gonna be honest i wasn’t really listening.”

“y/n”, he groaned out. i took that as my cue to start brushing my teeth so i wouldn’t have to respond to the lecture that was about to start.

he shook his head for a second before his mouth opened, “it’s okay honey, you were probably so nervous, we can go tomorrow. how are you feeling right now?”

i reached my hand up to feel his forehead, returning the favor, he quickly pushed it down. “i’m not kidding y/n, how are you.”

after emptying my mouth and rinsing off my toothbrush i replied, “i’m not gonna lie i’m more worried about you, if i’m not getting scolded for my “lack of regard for my own personal safety” as you would say.”

the look i got from bucky convinced me to fess up, “i’m kind of tired, and obviously still a bit nauseous, but mainly just tired.”

he seemed pretty content with that and he went to pick me up again, “i can walk you know?”

“you’re gonna have to get used to this y/n, what if you collapsed from exhaustion?”

i rolled my eyes at his overexaggeration of my condition and allowed him to lift me off the counter, i watched him make his way towards our bed. after i was gracefully placed onto my side of the mattress he said, “i’m gonna get you some water, you’re going to drink at lest half of it, then we’re gonna schedule an appointment for tomorrow, okay?”

after simultaneously yawning and nodding he left, and a smile crept up onto my face, thinking of watching bucky holding our tiny child in his big arms. and with that thought, i fell asleep.

Cut for humdrum childhood trauma, probably emotional abuse cw? But maybe that’s too strong a term

I went past something the other day RE ‘friendship is allowing a certain amount of ghosting to go unmentioned,’ which I mean...hard agree, obviously & I’d never expect within-a-half-hour responses to every little note I ever sent or for anyone to drop everything they’re doing at any point in time just to Validate Me; people get busy, people have their own lives, sometimes people just forget. Sometimes I’m largely out of contact w/ friends for a week or so at a time, it happens.

But even understanding the meaning of the post, my dumb doormat ass was still like “But four months or so or near total silence is unusual, right? Probably over half a year since the last real conversation is a little odd? If someone largely ceases replying to you or directly speaking to you anything like the normal amount, seemingly concurrent to when you pointed out the blatantly obvious trajectory of a wrestling storyline, it’s probably not a misinterpretation to consider it deliberate? Am I just overreacting and being paranoid & selfish? I am aren’t I, I think I’m the center of the whole universe don’t I?”

Part of me just thinks, ‘Ah, this again, it was only a matter of time.’

I mean...at home, 24/7 I'd get silence beaten into me, even on christmas morning, to prove his kids were better behaved than his brother’s kids my father made us open presents at grandma’s house quietly and slowly, one tape seam at a time while my cousins tore around like...children...ripping their wrapping paper and being excited. I wasn’t permitted to be excited, it’s why I always feel like I’m performing gratitude rather than expressing it because I have a complex about irritating people with my happiness. He threw out my wood soled clogs when I was at school because he didn’t like the noise they made. One time he bellowed at me to “GO LAY DOWN,” which was what he used to yell at the cats and the dogs left in our care. Didn’t matter if it was an animal or his literal firstborn child, if it was making more noise than he considered acceptable it had to be shut up. I got yelled at for screaming in terror and pain when he shut my wrist in the car door, bc it was making people look at us.

Like when you take that level of constant attempts to stamp out a certain behaviour and then that exact behaviour is expected of you OUTSIDE the house...christ.

I remember one of the few times I went to the movies "with friends," here in quotes because the only friend in the group was really Kristen and the rest just kinda tolerated me, we saw The Birdcage. And when we were walking out discussing it before I even had a chance to open my mouth in response to something, how Alanna immediately said in the coldest imaginable voice that she hadn't heard me laughing and thus I must have thought it wasn't funny / I was too good for it / whatever else she was projecting on me at the time.

And it was just.

I thought it was hilarious, but bc of the constant drumbeat in my head, be quiet or else, be quiet or else, laughing (or doing anything else) loudly in public is something I constantly police myself about in case it's Bothering People.

WHICH I GUESS! Made me seem cold and stuck up or something! Who the fuck knows? To this day I don't know what I did or said that made them all hate me so much.

I quit our small choir after one practice because again...after one song Jenny (Jenny being the one who tried to drown me once & then acted like it was my fault) decided I was faking it and not actually singing, everybody looking daggers at me. So then I stopped singing and left and never went back. Sixth grade.

'Course seventh grade was when Kristen spontaneously decided we were no longer friends and would not tell me why, or even if there was a why, just that we weren't. I’d try to talk to her about it and she’d shut me down and walk away every time...she even looked like she regretted it a bit, which was the worst thing because it MUST have been my fault right? And I was upsetting her by even trying to find out what I’d done. So I stopped trying & shoved away that part of myself that wanted to.

That lasted about half a year, and after summer vacation she acted as though nothing had ever happened and we were fine; I was so grateful it was over & done with that I have never once asked her about it subsequently, even though we're still in touch.

And if I'm honest, the why is because, I don't know that she'd even remember it happening. This torturous thing that left me with a permanent paranoia about abandonment / making The Mistake that would drive people away, that was so formative and damaging, I've got no idea if it made any impression on her at all...and I don't really want to know. Because I suspect, and that’s enough.

So on the one side I’d get STOP SPEAKING YOU’RE BEING TOO LOUD NOBODY CARES and on the other side I’d get WHY AREN’T YOU CONTRIBUTING TO THE CONVERSATION DO YOU THINK YOU’RE TOO GOOD FOR US GOD WHAT A STUCK UP BITCH and somewhere in the middle would be GOD WHY WOULD YOU SAY SOMETHING SO STUPID THOUGH followed by the inevitable cutting off.

Like I’m trying to work around to the point where accepting shitty immature I'm-not-talking-to-you-but-I'm-not-telling-you-why grade school behaviour where I'm pretty sure???? things are unrecoverable but I'm kicked-dog scared of confrontation so I don't dare say anything and just sit instead in a holding pattern waiting for Master to wave me over & toss down a few scraps of attention is not actually something I’m willing to put up with anymore. But I’m constantly undercut by all the times ppl have just stomped all over me & used me and thrown me away like trash only to dust me back off all buddy-buddy when they decide I’m suddenly worth something to them again. And this is not! Something I should be hoping for! Like even I can see that ‘hahaha anyway what were we talking about a year ago when I last returned any of your timid attempts at communication, friend?’ is not an ideal outcome when the ppl that do it will just feel even more at liberty to do it again when they see I just sorta jello myself back into the form they expect of me & am always, always too scared to say “Ok first of all, what the fuck?”

It doesn’t seem to matter if there’s a small voice going ‘Yes but you’re maybe worth a little more than that and maybe people shouldn’t treat you that way?’ if the whole rest if the world is going ‘lol no you’re not and it’s what you deserve.’

I don't know when this was sent @fulltoadpicklemuffin so sorry if this is late. I've also taken my time to give you a thoughtful, thorough reply

ALSO HEADS UP THAT I'M ON MOBILE WITH NO ACCESS TO A CUT SO I'M SORRY

So I did a full year of research before getting my girls. I was living on a college campus where animals were banned except for goldfish and other small tank animals, emotional support animals, and service animals. I was in an apartment so I had plenty of space for a rabbit or two but we also had a school policy where we could have a surprise inspection at any point in time. We weren't even allowed to have friends who had pets come into our spaces even to pick us up it was so strict. It was pretty strictly enforced too

I also wasn't working because my mother promised me that so long as I focused on my studies, I wouldn't have to get a job. She paid for textbooks, groceries, my phone, medical expenses including meds, and so on. She helped me get a car and did a lot of heavy lifting. Meaning that between that, being disabled, and the school policy it didn't make sense to even sneak a bun

Well, I only needed one class for my last semester meaning I lost campus housing eligibility so I'd have to pay the campus something stupid like two grand a month to stay there. We moved to a temporary apartment and didn't say anything but like they didn't do inspections like campus did so whatever

So that's part of why I did a whole year of research. I made triple sure to know their proper diet, switching foods, and so on. I was very careful about them playing only with Approved Bunny Toys and didn't even have a cage for either of them at first as they were in an 8x8 closet with limited access to roam our room. Between that and my research, I have plenty of advice and it'll be stuff you won't necessarily hear from other people

IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU ADOPT FROM A BREEDER, SHOP AT A STORE, OR GET A RESCUE

At the end of the day, a bun got a home that otherwise might not have. And that's more important, to me at least, than other factors. I don't recommend getting a pet store bunno because they are horribly mistreated but you do you. I won't judge either way on that one. I got my girls directly from a reputable breeder

I do recommend different methods for different needs, ability, and whatnot. I had never owned a rabbit before so I had no idea what the baseline for bun behaviors were. I didn't know how destructive they were prone to be had they not been traumatized via abandonment or abuse or whatever. I had no idea the difference between a happy loaf versus a grumpy loaf. I didn't know a happy flop from a passive aggressive one and no amount of reading up on these things or YouTube videos was going to really show me unless I saw them with my own eyes

Not to mention, buns take a long time to get comfortable with you just in general. Bonnie and Cloud took almost two months before they were cool enough with me to cuddle me on my bed. I remember crying thinking they hated me with no idea they were bonding to me very quickly. It would have been even longer with a rescue and I might have sincerely thought I was a bad bun parent and given up on buns entirely

So, for new bun parents, I recommend getting from a reputable breeder two bun siblings of the same gender from the same litter like I did. Not only do you get a better baseline for behavior, you genuinely get to see a lot of things you wouldn't from other bonded pairs. Like these two fight over the same scrap of broccoli when there's a little pile beside them that either of them could choose from. They also play "pranks" on each other like sneaking up on each other, giving surprise boops, and running away. They make WAY more vocalizations than your average rabbit and can easily be mistaken for guinea pigs with their noises. Both in the type of vocalizations but also with how loud they can get. They act very similarly to human siblings

I say reputable breeder for obvious reasons. I contacted a breeder who was willing to promise me 4 week old buns which was a big fat no from me. There was no way they'd be completely weaned let alone emotionally ok with leaving their nest. When he said 4 weeks, I just hard blocked his number. Our breeder gave us ours at 6 or 8 weeks (I forget which) because they were ready. She even texted us saying they were ready to leave their parents earlier than she expected and gave us the option of waiting a couple more weeks to be double sure

So we could tell she knew her stuff and was reputable on top of her sending pictures of her setup and their pedigrees. She sent stuff shows care about too so it wasn't just x parent or whatever like she had genotypes back to their great grandparents which she herself had raised and had pedigrees for. We went ahead and got them early because I was so eager to meet them

My spouses and I have discussed adding two more to the mix but we're going to wait a bit. We're going to look into guinea pigs first and then if we still want two more bunnos, we'll cross that bridge when we get there. But, we'll almost definitely get from a reputable breeder again

As I've had my hip replaced, I can only handle creatures up to a certain weight. After my surgery, our roommate's cat jumped on my leg and opened my surgery wound. I won't get too graphic with it but it opened clear to my metal replacement and she wasn't even that large of a breed. Well, as far as my experience goes, the smallest buns get homes first because they're "cuter" due to their size. Holland lops go especially quickly because of how sweet and friendly they are. And I have needs

There are plenty of other bun parents who get all "well having a creature is a privilege not a right" about this and insist I shouldn't have a bun if I'm going to a breeder. These people can eat me. I have depression and meds and therapy only get you so far. Without these guys, I'd only leave my bed to use the bathroom or run errands. I know because that's where I was prior to them. I also can't have children so I need something to pour my love into or I'll hurt myself. I know that sounds weird or whatever but I shouldn't have to tell other bun owners, or anyone really, "without tiny fur children to love, cherish, protect, and provide for, I'll definitely kill myself" because like. None of their business

Not to mention, there's the question of bonding buns which takes time and a lot of effort. So even if we could get a couple rescue small buns, would they bond to the kids we have already. Rinse and repeat. Only one of us can drive so it's not like we have that much time available to bond either. It's faster, less stressful, and less time consuming for everybody involved to just adopt two babies from a reputable breeder

I say all my reasons why not to be all "breeder all the way!" because that's not where I'm coming from. I'm trying to illustrate why that might be a better option. Someone else may have to drive several hours out of the way to adopt and there is a perfectly good and cute bunno in need of a loving, happy home at a pet shop a street away. Whatever the case, so long as buns that exist get proper homes, I don't care. It's more important to me that buns aren't mistreated

ALL THAT SAID, time to move onto some quicker advice

Get a cage for each of your buns. We got those big ones that go for like 120 a piece or whatever at Petsmart. The big open trays with the wire sides and the side door. This gives them a comfy place to flop so they can nap in whatever hay you put. This will also keep them confined after they get fixed so you're not worrying about an expen or whatever else

THIS SHOULD NOT BE THEIR PRIMARY HOUSING. Now I understand if you can't free roam your buns. Not everyone has the space or living conditions. Frankly, we would put them in separate cages before bed, and release them when we woke up so they were in there 8ish hours. Mostly it was so they got some rest but also to keep them out of mischief while we slept. They turned into more of very large litter boxes over time and have only really functioned as cages post spay or when one (usually Cloud) was being destructive or bitchy and redirection and distraction weren't working so she needed a time out to calm down

Now that we've moved into half of a duplex with three whole separate rooms, an enormous front room, and so on, they're just very large litterboxes/hangout spaces. One will eventually be downstairs so they can be close to us while we do things and the other will be in our bedroom so they're shut with us at night. This is so they spend more time roaming during the day and don't get fat from being lazy babies

Now I won't Totally judge if anyone has an outdoor hutch so long as it's plenty of room and bunnos come in during extreme weather. It's not the safest but like I get it

GI stasis is going to happen. Don't freak out. Yes, it CAN kill bunnies but only if you're not doing what you should. We give ours 80% hay/wood sorrel/grass, 10ish greens/salad, 10ish pellets with a bit of wiggle room for treats. The wood sorrel (commonly called clover across the US) and grass are rare treats but they eat enough to basically replace their hay when they get it. Occasional treats are I'm eating strawberries and they get the tops or the ends of carrots when we're cooking dinner. Sometimes they get Legit pet store treats but these are rare

We see GI signs most often when they're shedding and it's because they're ingesting fur so their poop does the connected string thingy that's the first sign of GI stasis. We also have seen it every time after a move because they've been too stressed to eat enough hay so we up their pellets and greens during that time to compensate. The only other times were when we switched them from alfalfa as babies to Timothy as adults and when they were fixed

A good way to combat this is a product the Hook's Holland Lops lady recommends on her channel. They're digestive tablets made with papaya, ginger, pineapple, peppercorns, banana, and so on. It's all organic and one tablet contains a MINIMUM of 2% crude protein, 15% crude fiber, 0.5% crude fat. A tablet contains a MAXIMUM of 4% moisture, and 0.2 grams of fruit sugar. For mild cases, one tablet every day until they're in the clear is just fine but for a severe case, use one tablet per pound of bun body weight. This should be broken up from one feeding to throughout the day though so it doesn't screw up their systems

How I do it is twice a day because my babies are so small at 4ish lbs and 6ish lbs. They're actually 3.5 and 5.5 but it's easier to just say 4 and 6. I'll give Cloud 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening, and Bonnie 3 at both times. I've only had to do that after their spay. The worst their GI symptoms have ever been, they each needed one tablet twice a day. Now, if either were, say, 12 pounds. I'd split that into 3 tablets 4 times a day or 2 tablets 6 times a day

This has kept them from needing an emergency vet thus far. They've never had hard guts and their weird poops haven't ever lasted too terribly long either. Just keep an eye on how much they're drinking, how much hay they're eating, and so on

Bunnies shed WAAAAY more than you think and nobody can possibly prepare you for it. Literally, every time I go to comb or pluck or otherwise groom either of them, I end up with a pile of fur that is at LEAST as large as they are if not twice or three times as big. And I still have to groom their sides like I've only just cleared their backs

They shed so much that the poor babies were having sneezing fits. We checked their noses and no snuffles. So you'll need to vaccuum to try and keep that down. But like they will leave it on you worse than cats and they shed twice a year, roughly each spring and fall

LISTEN to your buns. Are they abnormally skittish around your new roommate? Keep an eye on that person the same way you would if your dog or cat were abnormally skittish. I promise you they aren't a good person. At the very least, they aren't very good for you and you shouldn't trust them around your buns. They don't want your new partner to pet them? Run the other way. Or at least remember it. My babies have let me know ahead of time when someone or some place is bad news

Not just this, they'll let you know when they're not happy. Whether that's their hay, their bedding, if the carpet feels weird. Listen to them. You'll be around after them but they only have you so make them as happy as you can

Bunnies are deceptively stupid. Now, I know some bun parents who are like "how dare you insult such majestic creatures" when like I ASSURE you, Karen, that Oreo there has nothing going on in his head beside "mmmm monch" when he sees your baseboards. Like they're definitely smarter when fixed because hormones aren't flooding their tiny brains but they're still super dumb and governed by instincts

That isn't to say they have absolutely nothing going on upstairs because that's a lie. They are smart enough to recognize routines and wake you up for stuff, bother you if something is upsetting them. They're about as intelligent as toddlers? If that makes any sense. Like toddlers aren't geniuses by any stretch of the imagination, they're still smart. Like they're tiny little dumbasses ruled by "am hunger so must eat" and so on. So if you act like you've got tiny toddlers with soft fur then you're pretty gold

Also, they like to watch TV. Cloud likes MLP and other animal cartoons like Looney Toons. Bonnie likes dramatic stuff with explosions and her favorite thing is YGO. So like :/ toddlers :/

Bunnies are more expensive than you think but they don't have to break the bank. Bunnies are the most expensive pet I've ever had but I've also only ever had dogs and roommates with cats. Hay can be pretty expensive, plus salad, treats, and that's just food. You also have to take into consideration litter boxes, damage costs, and so on

To cut down on hay, we buy a 75 lbs bale from Tractor Supply for about $15 that lasts quite a few months. Depending on how we use it, it can go as quickly as 3 months because they pee on it (which means mold flakes) or as long as over 6 if rationed appropriately in old pet shop hay bags. Then, we buy fresh stuff in season and take advantage of sales and coupons. Sometimes, we don't give a salad if finances are tight enough but they will always get hay and pellets. We also buy pellets in bulk for cheaper and bought a Brita pitcher for like 20 bucks or so so they get filtered water no matter how hard the water is for much cheaper than water bottles

Get a portable pen for hay like the one here. It helps contain mess a LOT. Like hay is gonna get everywhere, obviously, but if you do the bale like we do, it's super helpful and keeps the mess pretty well contained. On that note, I highly recommend a shop vac which the type of vaccuum wood shops, car repair places, and construction sites tend to use. I just linked an example so you know what you're looking for but get a hose that's at least 1.5 inches in diameter. Ours is close to 2 inches but you need the wide diameter so you can vacuum fur and hay without creating clog issues like a regular vaccuum. Capacity doesn't matter so much as hose size and ours cost us something like $60

Your buns will inevitably eat something they shouldn't. Depending on what it is and how much, your reaction should change. Your bun nosed their way into the trash and got the little chip crumbs at the bottom of a snack bag? Eh they'll be fine. If it's something that's dangerous like plastic or a poisonous food then you should contact your emergency vet. But Cloud has ABSOLUTELY snatched chips and bits of coke from a straw or two and we always have to fight her to stay away from our chips. I have a friend who has a bun who assaults her for pancakes. Like it's fine

Even after you have buns, keep researching. When it was stupid hot and I was worried, I looked up what to do to help keep them cool. When I was worried how much Bonnie was shedding, I asked my discord group. When I'm not sure about a food, I hit up Google

1/29/21: community, love, and... well, really nothing

today i was thinking about how even in the midst of really terrible shit, there's still some really amazing things that can and do happen.

i hate my job with a passion that literally no one around me can understand. back before the pandemic, teaching in the charter system that i work at gave me constant nightmares and panic attacks. i think i have mild PTSD, actually. seriously. after everything went remote, i found some degree of relief. my nightmares happen less frequently, i tend to have less panic attacks, working from home allows me more physical comfort (no one is forcing me to stand on my feet for 10 hours straight), and it's relatively easier to tweet on the job, lol. however, it's still a big point of misery for me. i feel disrespected by my superiors (i literally got cursed out the other week for a logistical mistake that wasn't even my own), my boss-boss hates me, someone leaked screenshots of an instagram post i made last summer about the state of the education system and the charter network i work for took it as some kind of personal attack and i had to answer for it (weird), and i am one of the most underpaid people in my teaching cohort. they explain this away by saying i don't "meet certain data points," and i dont do this and i neglect to do that but i do just as much work if not more than my coworkers... so. anyway, i just want to get out. i hate it. very badly. my job is one of the main causes of my depressive episodes. i'm only still there because i have rent to pay and i also don't want to leave my kids in the middle of the school year... i absolutely would if i got a new job but it would cause me a bit of agony...

anyway, even in the midst of all that negativity and depression and terribleness... i am strangely glad that i ended up there. today, after one of my most taxing classes (it's not exactly a difficult group of students to teach... i just teach them after two other back-to-back classes and by that point i'm drained and absolutely numb in the brain), two of my coworkers jumped on my zoom link to tell me about a mini scandal they happened upon yesterday.

one of my kids' parents is using her daughter's school-issued laptop to sext with some obviously-catfish internet guy behind her husband's back! they discovered this while using our school's device-monitoring program to make sure the kids weren't cheating during a practice exam. the story and screenshots and talk of next-steps were certainly all hilarious and fun and a nice reprieve from a long, tireless day of remote teaching/chasing after kids/grading terrible fucking papers/getting blamed for everything negative under the sun, but the thing i'm most grateful and feeling blessed for is... community. just sitting on a locked zoom call with two other young women talking trash, shooting the shit, gabbing, sharing scandalous information, dramatically reading corny sexts between two older people was absolutely rejuvenating. it felt like being in middle school or high school again. sitting at a table with your friends after a long morning of classes and just talking shit and hanging out and making sure that everyone was good and could make it through another afternoon of the same old tired, boring, draining, depressing shit. it felt good. and i felt grateful. i no doubt would've slipped into self-pity mode which includes scrolling twitter even though no one has anything good to say, snacking on an unholy amount of girlscout cookies, and napping for the last ten minutes of my break before going into another excruciatingly long period of teaching european history (yuck!).

the thing i hate most about the pandemic is that i am missing out on community. i miss going to bars and clubs and parties by myself and plunging into a room full of people who are also open to meeting someone new, getting into something exciting, running away from home. my favorite part of last school year was getting off of work and heading to dinner with a date, or a friend's house for drinks, or to a book signing or art and culture event. just running around nyc for as long as i could, having as much fun as i could, with as many people as i could before the clock struck 12 and i would have to get up in the morning and play the role of boring, underpaid single female middle school teacher again. now, it feels like i can never escape that role. it feels like my entire life is about being a teacher and being abused and underpaid and stupid and lame and underappreciated. i miss my communities and the identities i found within them.

that's why i was so grateful to my coworkers. for a period of 30 - 35 mins or so, i wasn't just a teacher. i was a friend, a gossip, an asshole, a bitch, a silly girl, a person. a whole person. and i hardly ever feel like a whole person anymore. the four walls of my room don't seem big enough to fit a whole person. just a teacher. just a student. just a failure. just a fuck-up.

i love love. i know they're just my coworkers but i'd be lying if i said i didn't love them. i was also thinking, today, about how people are only in our lives for seasons. and sometimes we know this. like, for example, i know that if i got a job at a new place right this moment (fingers crossed, from this blog to God's ears!!!) that i would leave and probably never hear or speak to any of my coworkers again. and i was thinking how i was ok with this. it wouldn't diminish my love for them in any way or make me feel like i need to find some way to keep them around forever... it just is what it is. i can love them and still know that we aren't meant to be together for too long. we got each other through this hellhole of a job without killing ourselves and that's enough for a lifetime, to be honest.

i was supposed to write all these thoughts way earlier but He messaged me on instagram. He replied to a post of mine talking about WandaVision and apologizing for not texting back last saturday... since this is my blog and im basically anonymous, i'm not ashamed to say that seeing his name pop up on my phone is enough to send me over the moon... especially when it's unexpected and unprompted... he's such a bozo though and i basically let him know... i am a big believer in honesty and eagerness but sometimes a little cool is needed. i brushed off his apology and let him know he was sorry as fuck all the time and then congratulated him on being the kind of person who gets to say "i was just overwhelmed because the judge fucked us over and now i'm working until midnight for the next week." that's probably weird but what can be better than having a job that you like, doing something that you love and that is DEFINITELY helping your career... that's more than what some people have... (i am some people, unfortunately, but i'm looking at getting out of being such a fucking loser)

umm.. it's 1AM now and i have another long, tireless day of being a fucking superhuman aka teacher tomorrow so i'm going to go to bed but i feel like i didn't blog right because i didn't have a clear beginning, middle, end and proper sign off and i know i'm being silly and blogs don't always have to be like that but that's how i feel... but i have to go so that's how it's gonna have to be. i just wanted to write my thoughts down and update my blog because i'm trying to keep my promises to myself in 2021. if i don't keep promises to myself... how will i get anything done?

also He just messaged me back again :) and i have to stare at the message for AT LEAST 30 mins before i can settle into sleep mode.

LOL that laziness might be an impediment to skilling though!

Well, not for the toddler skills, though. My rule is that I lock toddler skill wants in the order they appear (besides potty-training, because that just happens naturally because of the toddler care schedule I employ in households that have toddlers). If there’s another Sim in the household with time, they will teach the kid the skill they have locked. Only the locked skill can be worked on until it is learned. Then I lock the next one the toddler rolls (if they roll more). I’m perfectly OK with toddlers not learning all of the toddler skills. Or any of them, for that matter, although they are all eventually potty-trained by default.

Weird true fact – years ago I read a historical fiction novel about Josephine Bonaparte, and after reading it, I decided that one day I wanted a pair of cats named Napoleon and Josephine because the pair of names were just so perfect together. So seeing them on your Simblr was kind of a trip!

It was unintentional on my part. A random pet name generator spat out the name “Napoleon,” and I went with it. (Had no idea it would actually fit him pretty well. :) ) And then when there was a want for another cat, it seemed logical to get a female named Josephine.

As for the real people...Say what you will about Napoleon, but he did love his wife. Their love letters are like, whoa! :) It’s too bad that they were never able to have children, or else I’m sure they’d’ve stayed together to the end. Or at least I hope they would have. Maybe in an alternate reality... :)

I'm trying to be better about not power skilling my way through promotions, without them rolling for the want to do so. Much more realistic that way. Although I do allow a bit of leeway for skilling that happens as a result of preferred hobby interactions, because that's its own kind of realism in itself. :)

My whole playing style is centered around Sims free-willing because, IMO, that’s how you learn who a Sim really is. Basically, they do what they want unless they roll up a want that I can actively fill. So, unless they roll up a want for a skill point, I don’t command them to skill. That said, I’ve made autonomous lots of stuff that isn’t by default, and some of it confers skill points. So, if they choose to read a cookbook or work on restoring a car, then so be it, but I’m not going to make them study cooking or mechanical unless they roll a want to do so. That’s how it works for me. Frankly, I find force-skilling and Sims at the top of their careers and raking in ridiculous amounts of money just incredibly boring, so this is what I eventually came up with to mitigate that.

As for Cherry, specifically...She seems entirely uninterested in bettering herself. Her life centers around sex, social interaction in general, bubble baths, and interacting with the dog, in that order. She’s a hedonist, really, and I can relate.

Heh, I’m hoping I’ll get to play retro-Strangetown before the end of the year... :) Nah, that’s not true. I’m building it and making stuff for it concurrently, and I’m only building houses for the premades plus the two households in the family bin, so it shouldn’t be that long. I think. I hope. I can get a little obsessive with the making of stuff...

Aw, thank you! <3 I do try to be nice here on Tumblr and online in general...although if I’m feeling tetchy, I’ll occasionally go to Simsecret and argue with people. (Always under my name, though; I don’t do the silly “anon” thing. If I’ve got a beef with someone, I’ll own what I say to them and say it to their “face.” Anon is for pussies.) But in general, I’m a person of strong opinions and I live a...well, alternative lifestyle, both of which have the potential to offend or just piss off certain people, particularly certain people that I know follow me, but I try to rein that in here. I’m here on this blog to be all about a silly game, to share stuff and be helpful when I can, not to pick silly fights or to sling around politics and social issues or to be shocking for the sake of being shocking.

I am of the opinion that my game needs dungeon clutter, particularly things to hang on walls and/or peg racks. Which could be medieval or...um, not. ;) I’m also envisioning a certain kind of bed. I have a neighborhood wherein I occasionally play around with *ahem* certain things. I mean, it’d be nice if there was more functional dungeon-y stuff, but even non-functional decorative stuff can give the right atmosphere in combination with some functional stuff. Buuuuut what I’d like to have would require me to know how to mesh, which is a vast frontier that I have yet to breach. :) I do already have some stuff that could use some nicer/updated textures, though... I don’t know that anyone else would be interested, though, in terms of sharing. I have no idea how kinky/fetishy the community generally is and/or whether or not people would want to admit to it and/or whether or not other people who are kinky/fetishy would actually want that sort of stuff in their game, much less whether or not GOS would want such stuff posted there. ;) So...yeah. :)

I used to have inaccessible beds, but it bugs me that sims don't walk as close to the bed as they can before teleporting. The number of times I had a sim stand up from the dinner table and instantly teleport halfway across the house to bed... >.>

I have actually never had a Sim teleport across the house to get in a bed. They will do long-distance bed-making, though. Like, they’ll stand up from the breakfast table and do the bed-making animations while across the house the bed does the animations, too. But, for instance, in order to use the bed-for-three, even if I command the Sim who “owns” the middle space to go to bed, she’ll only follow the command if she’s in the same room as the bed. I don’t know if I have another mod that’s contributing to this, though.

That doesn’t happen to me, either. I think it’s because I have a mod that prevents fireplaces from starting fires. I’m guessing that burning leaf piles uses the same code, so the mod is nuking that, too.

I only bred once with my - oh my gosh I don't remember which fam - but it was kitties - 3 of em and couldn't tell em apart worth a damn lol XD

I think the game only has a certain number of puppy/kitten coat patterns, so, yeah, kittens all tend to look alike. But they tend to grow up looking very different. Napoleon and Josephine looked the same as each other as kittens -- white kittens -- but they look very different as adults. I suspect the same will be true for in-game-born puppies/kittens.

Well, I’ll say this for HP. I might not have any interest in reading it, myself, but it got my severely-dyslexic son -- who had great struggles with learning to read and being interested in reading -- to read. He’s always been a rather anti-intellectual jock (which has always irritated me, as a nerd), I think partly to cover up his reading struggles, but even his jock buddies when he was a kid decided it’d be not-uncool to read Harry Potter. So they did, and he did, too. And then because he got through the Harry Potter books, he felt encouraged enough to read some other things, too. So while he’ll never, ever be a great reader, at least he’s no longer afraid of books and he’s more confident that he can read, if he ever wants to. So, my son is probably one of those lowest common denominators, and frankly God bless JK Rowling for Harry. I just don’t have any interest in reading the books myself. :)

sugar tales: Amoladora

Amoladora sent me a wink on whatsyourpice. I had all but forgotten about that site. Never been a fan of it really. Most of the girls I’d met were only looking for some quick cash IMHO. But after Ripoff, I couldn’t do any worse at this point. I reply back with an offer and 3 days later we’re texting.

Amoladora isn’t in town at the moment which works for me. I use the time to get to know her better and more importantly see if she is serious about a SD. And this one took longer because I still had the messages (text, email, etc.) so I went through them to write the post. Its still a bit choppy from my POV but I had to shorten it.

Anyway....within a couple of days Amoladora has allayed any concerns I have for the moment. I bring up allowances, but she shy’s away from any commitment until after we’ve met. We go silent for a day or two, can’t remember how long really. Then she surprises me one morning and text me 7:30am. It’s amazing and funny how chicks know you’re up that early just because you have a job. Baby wants to meet up that day. But the whole ordeal of Ripoff floods back into the mind and suddenly I want to cancel.

I shrug it off and by 1:30pm I’m pulling into some nice upscale apartments. I was shocked I got to pick her up actually. Lot of sugar chicks don’t go for that sort of thing. I haven’t had another chick in the car with me for quite some time including my wife (she hates my car). My passenger seat still looks new. I’m always meeting chicks somewhere or at the hotel. It’s always “I’ll meet you there…” or some stuff like that.

As I wait in the parking lot, I catch a glimpse of this sexy as Latina coming down the stairs. At first I think its someone else but as she comes closer I see its Amoladora. Nice. We manage to talk about our lives, experiences in the sugar bowl, our background. We run out of things to talk about so I bring up the allowance again.

“I think we’re looking for two different things sweetie,” she says. “That’s too low for me.” I smile and ask, “Well how much baby?”

She throws out an amount and I immediately agree to it. Too quick. She kicks me under the table. “Really? You were just giving me a shitty offer to see if I would take it?” I tell her yes and we both laugh.

I know tumblr. I’m a bastard. But hey, I was understandably a little salty after the last month with Ripoff. We order another set of drinks and then go on talking about some minute details of our arrangement.

Amoladora shocks me – she tells me something about her roommate is gone and she doesn’t have anything planned for the rest of the day. “We can get started baby,” I remember her saying. “Or do you have to get back to work?”

I did! I whip out the phone and send a few emails to cover myself for the afternoon. “I’m all yours baby,” I say putting my phone away.

Can get it. “Shit, I met let you hit this if you come through with a bag,” she tells me. The Oracle is immune to my charm and money, so it means a lot coming form her. Never knew 420 was such an aphrodisiac….Back to our story.

I tell Amoladora I don’t smoke it, but I’d try a little with her.

Within the hour we’re walking up the stairs to her apt. She tells me something about her roommate may be home so when we walk in I need to be as quiet as possible. A flag is raised. I see flashbacks of a month ago where Ripoff was disappear into a back room to change into something more comfy. The some bitch ass dude comes in all nonchalant like he just went to the store. Outside, more of the homies are waiting for backup…..My eyes dart around to see if I see anything suspicious. I’m nervous, but Bartholomew (my second brain) is in control now and I’m throwing caution to the wind. She opens the door and we walk into this upscale apt. with wooden floors and pretty swanky layout. I only take a few steps before she diverts me into a door on the right. It’s the bathroom and has another door to her bedroom. She pushes me in gently, follows me in and closes the door behind me.

Oh snap. It could be the perfect setup. Big wad of cash in my pocket. In a room that’s dark. Some buster could jump out at any minute. WTF? How did I let myself get back into this situation? Am I about to get robbed again?

Amoladora picks up an open bottle of wine on a nearby night stand and says, “let’s finish this.” I sigh in relief. Heart stops pounding. I chuckle at being smuggled in like I’m some guilty pleasure of hers. Reminds me of back when I was teenager, sneaking into some girls house. She runs to the kitchen and returns with 2 glasses. We sit on the bed and talk, sipping wine. Before long we start to kiss. I can taste the sweet taste of wine on her supple lips. Even as I type this, I can recall the taste like it was yesterday.

By now, Bartholomew is about to bust through the zipper. Then I realize I hadn’t took my Lamar Odom’s (herbals for those who don’t know) before I left work. Oh well, I don’t think I’ll be having a problem today anyway.

Before long we’re taking turns removing clothes articles of clothing. After several minutes of play, I’m naked. I push her back on the bed and go down on her. The kitty is fresh and clean. The only time I don’t want to do something like that is when I know the sugar isn’t going to last long.

But its never worked for me. Last time I signed a lease, baby girl ran out on the lease. Left me holding a fairly big rent payment. She was gone, apt was empty and I had 3 months left to pay. And that was the second time that happene dot me. The first time the girl left after a month and she damaged the floor. I’m still jaded about signing leases and stuff. So naturally, I wasn’t looking to even take the chance.

“Would you at least consider it?” she asks. Sure I say. With that, we start playing. We end up back in her room but she only lets me make out with her. WTF? Says she’s a little sore. I can’t win I tell you. Smh. No nookie, freezing my ass off and this teeth grinder over here (Amoladora ) wants her own place. Only in the bowl.

I fall back asleep despite the cold and noise. I wake at 6 and I got morning wood. Really? Any other morning my old ass would be be as soft as tissue. But this morning I’m standing strong and nowhere to put it. I give. The sugar gods are frowning on me.

I wake Amoladora up and tell her goodbye and head back home to freshen up. I get to work but luckily for my tired ass things are slow. All the big boys are gone for a conference. Cool. I might close my door and catch a nap. Then my phone starts blowing up. Amoladora wants to know what I think about the apt. I see she’s well rested. We spend the rest of the day talking, mostly her trying to convince me to put the apt in my name and me saying no. Amoladora tells me she wants me to come back over that night. I have to fly out the next day to join the fam so I’m not sure. But she insist. She wants to get a hotel this time. Turns out her roommate came home and saw my shoes at the door and got uncomfortable. Said he couldn’t sleep with another man in the house. Go figure. I tell her we can use the house, which is usually a big no no. But the fam’s out of town so I’ll bypass the hotel. She also wants me to try and get the weed again. I hit up my connect and after work I swing by and pick up the cannabis.

I go by and pick her up. “Your car’s so loud,” she says. “It vibrates. Its kind of naughty.” I look over at her in disbelief and think to myself, I am so tearing this pussy up tonight.” We stop by the store for some cigarillo’s and we head back to my house.

We retire to the bedroom to have more fun. She excuses herself to the bathroom and a few minutes later she comes out wearing some sexy lingerie.

She reminds me of the last time I did this and how I was left paying on an apt for months while baby up and left. She also reminds me of the risk I’m taking. Anything could happen. Baby girl could run out on the lease and damage the place and I’d be responsible. Something could happen to her and her son and I’d be involved. On and on.

Hadn’t thought about all that. A few hours later I text Amoladora and tell her I’m fine what paying for everything, but I just can’t put the apt in my name. Too risky and . For the next 24 hours we text back and forth on the subject. But I just can’t do it.

Then it happens. Just like many of the girls before her, the text start trailing off. Generally its not apparent, but I notice immediately. I try to keep it going but Amoladora is fading fast from my grip. Damn. I thought we had a good thing too.

By now I’m texting I’m talking regularly with Casino and Firecracker. I’m also getting ready to meet Firecracker for the first time. As the days go on, Amoladora becomes more and more silent. Before text would be answered right away, but now hours go by. Soon, no response at all.

Amoladora’s exit is bitter sweet as it were. The pics of Firecracker and Casino got me quite excited. Two bad ass black chicks. Hadn’t really been involved with any since Nebraska. And Casino’s body is just quite simply – extraordinary. I hate it that things didn’t work out with her. I’ll tell you all about it later....

A week after things go cold, I’ve gone out with Firecracker. Casino’s stopped texting. But I still send Amoladora a text to see if she’s gone for good. No response. I do actually like her and other than the name on the lease I was going to make her quite comfortable. Then to add to my woes a week after that Firecracker goes MIA. She stops texting too. Sigh. I am not winning.

Now we’re in July and I’m SBS (sugababy single). Its looking like its going to be dry spell for the summer. Perhaps its time to get out the sugar game? Put up my Capn’ Sav’em outfit and cape?

Its enraging when I hear my parents/parents in general tell their kids, who have their licenses to pay for a car yourself . Not even a split? A loan? These kids are still in highschool! Even after highschool in college, I just don't see how one can pay for even a cheap used car themselves unless they dedicate their life and save every penny for the damn car. People that age usually earn close to minimum wage, and if they spend all their time working instead of studying, that's all their ever going to make. Ex) my friend earns 9.25 hourly at a grocery store (he's worked there for a while so its not exact minimum wage), and works 40 hours a week. He is ALWAYS at work. At the end of the week, his checks are worth about 338 after taxes. A crappy used car is probably about 5000? I'm not fully sure. Someone that age would have to work 40 hours a week for quite a long time. Since they're teenagers, that would pretty much leave them no time for studying/doing homework and a social life in general. Don't parents want their children to perform well academically as well? The End to the First Half of 2018

Alrighty, since I got my year-end review/bonus/tiny raise meeting this week, I figure I’d do an evaluation of where I’m at now in 2018 and where I want to be at the end of 2018. Fitness I’m going to include this category in my posts now whenever relevant since they are part of the quad-fecta of areas I’d like to work on. In February, my peak weight was 140.35lbs with a body fat percentage of 27.0%. As of today, my weight is at 125.40lbs with a body fat percentage of 22.0%. so I lost roughly 13-15lbs and 4-5% of body fat in 4 months. That amounts to about 3lbs and 1% body fat per month. I think that of all the goals that I’ve set for myself for the first half 2018, I was closest to meeting my fitness goal. I had penned in to reach <125lbs at <20% body fat by the end of Q2 2018, so I was just short about half a pound and 2%. It’s kinda nice to have shed off a bowling ball off my body, and it’s also pretty darn nice being able to fit back into your favorite suit. But as we always said at Facebook, the journey is only 1% finished. For the remainder of 2018, I’m aiming to reach 120lbs while being under 20% body fat. I believe that to be the “healthy” range for me. I’m waiting for my weight/body fat to plateau based on my running regiment, and when that happens, I plan to look into some weight fitness to strengthen my body to support the stupidly frail frame that I have. I haven’t shed away with my favorite drinks and foods, but I have definitely started to eat in moderation. For the most part, there are nights and afternoons where I have some crazy cravings, but fortunately due to my laziness, sleeping it off hasn’t been a problem. No one has expressed to me that they’ve noticed, which is actually kinda surprisingly saddening. I didn’t think of myself as someone who wanted to be validated. But perhaps that speaks positively of how people view me...or negatively. Depends I guess on how your life outlook. Hah. Overall, for the first half of 2018, I think I am most proud of myself for this category of work, and based off my habits so far, I’m relatively confident that I will meet my 2018 goal in this category. Music WE MADE IT! The first ever KAMASOquartet live wedding gig has been performed. There were a lot of unexpectedly difficult hurdles and obstacles, but I guess the wedding director appreciating our work means that we did something right, at least. Haha. Capping out that weekend was a day trip to San Jose to watch Joe Hisaishi--the man who pulled me from my rut in 2012--live. I have to admit, that weekend was a very proud moment of this year. For me at least, arranging is no easy feat. I took 30 man hours to do Kiki’s, 20 for Totoro, 20 for Ponyo, and 10 for Country Road for a grand total of 80 hours to punch out 4 pieces. If that was a full time job, that’s 4 songs in 2 weeks. Since it was a after-work sorta deal, that ended up being roughly 2 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 8 weeks. To me, that was a huge investment of time, especially on top of my fitness goals and desire to advance my career. To get told that I don’t do anything and get jabbed lightly that I don’t hang out with them, I have to admit that I get slightly heated and annoyed. I didn’t think myself to be someone who cared deeply about how I was viewed by my community, but this weekend of going back to what I’ve prided myself in in the past using sheets that came from my sweat and ears that I got to verify live in San Jose was a cathartic moment for myself where I got to say “in your face” to those who decided that my life was something that they wanted to be spectators of. But people aside, the culmination of all my arrangement and practicing ended in a weekend was a magical moment in my heart, and I think this weekend will convince me that I treat my music hobby seriously for many weeks to come. That said, the mid-year goal was indeed to write the arrangements for this wedding. Originally, I was thinking of going gung-ho on music only until the gig, but the weekend has shown me a little, so I’ve decided to aim to finish my Ghibli Book by the end of 2018. Originally I was fretting over copyrights and whatnot, but if I do this as a private project and not as something to sell and profit off, I think it will be ok. I think it’s a little ambitious, because that amounts to roughly 2 songs per month, which if I can do one in 20 hours, would be 2 hours a per weekday, or 5 hours per weekend day. I also hope to (finally) set up a website for this stuff. Granted I can’t publish anything really unless it’s my original compositions, but I guess having that site up and resources readily available to plug myself into weddings would be a nice source of finding opportunities to exercise this hobby. Who knows, maybe all this will eventually show me that I can do away with engineering for the rest of my life. Hah... Career And the worst for last. Ah, what a bubbly failure this one ended up being. Exactly one week ago, I boarded Cathay Pacific with two full sized luggages, one backpack, and one carry on suitcase after completing my Master’s in HK. On this day exactly, I was sitting in my ex-managers office, interviewing for the position I am in. In that interview, he expressed to me that he worries that this job would be too boring for me, that it wouldn’t be challenging enough. I responded that the company deals with something that I am interested in, and if I found that this position was too boring, I would love to switch over to a role where I can be a bigger contributor. When I said that, I meant that I wanted to end up in software development. He replied that our department wants focals to work at least a year in their position before switching over. When I accepted this position, in the back of my mind, I was already thinking about ways to switch over. One year has passed since then, and a lot of the initial conditions have been changed, but one year later, I can confidently say I am not much closer to software engineering than I was the day I accepted the position. I can’t walk into any interview room confident in my ability to write code or to evaluate code. My resume doesn’t reflect the ability to code, and as time keeps going on, my resume will slowly shoehorn me into a deep career of test engineering. It’s a field that can pay well, but it is definitely the field that tends to get bullied a lot. Again, after the one-year, and half-year commitments, I expressed a desire but didn’t jump in deep enough to get any closer to my desire. But you know, fall 6 times, get up 6 times. As long as I continue to respond to my guilt and disappointment with reinvigorated passion, I think in time, whether 6 months or 5 years, I’ll one day find the strength and determination to make a strong jump backwards into the career line that’s next to me. So for the remainder of 2018, I hope to be able to put myself in a position to apply to entry level software engineering roles by fall. That means, for this summer, I hope to finish two specializations (Java and Algorithms) on Coursera, finish out 30 days of code on HackerRank, create a health app, write more scripts at work, and develop a mini mobile game. Quite a loaded summer, but the hope is that by the start of 2019, when someone asks “can you code?” I can confidently reply with “yes I can.” Hopefully this past half-year is the last time I have to fall over. Final Half-Year Review Remarks Whew I’m back to my wall of text tendencies. When I graduated from UCI in 2015, I looked back at the 5 years of college that I had and thought “man that is the fastest I will ever grow, and now growing will slow down.” And I was wrong, because in some aspects, I felt like I’ve shrunk, actually. I think that since graduation, my pride and bitterness have spiraled into something that is dangerously hard to control. The part of me that declares goals and doesn’t take action is still present, and a new desire to be viewed by my community in a certain way has manifested itself out of nowhere. While I highly value peace and balance, I think a lot of the negative aspects of who I am now crept up from tilting too far into the peace side of things, which became more like lethargy than peace. I guess, then, the abrasive community that I find myself in now was right in calling me out. I believe that in the past half-year, I did accomplish many things that I have not accomplished before--tanking my weight down a bowling ball and pumping 4 arrangements that I actually don’t want to burn. But for me to match what I declare to dream to be requires even more work than what I think to be my personal limit. The upcoming half-year, I hope to find out whether or not this limit is the actual limit, or just a mental block that I put on myself to allow myself to continue to dwell in those negative aspects of my personality. Of course, the hope is that I can break the limit and combat my negative tendencies, but I do have a tendency to fail quite spectacularly. But that’s ok, as we also said back at Facebook. Fail fast, fail harder. Hopefully the next report in will show signs of more action. Not a bad first half of the year, but let’s use both the negatives and positives to motivate ourselves into finishing the year strong!
