If you've seen the first joke before, yeah that was also me
ID: a four-panel Genshin Impact comic. The first panel shows Cyno with one hand on his chin, saying, "An Inazuman cat is lazing about. You could say it's doing...." The second panel shows him smiling like a cat, fist curled like a paw. He says, "Nya-thing!" The third panel shows Alhaitham shrugging with a smug look, saying, "An Inazuman dog would give that joke a wan out of ten. But I think it's alright." The final panel shows Lumine, snickering; Nahida, smiling and saying, "ahh, I see" as she reads an Inazuman dictionary; and the Wanderer, exasperated. Off-screen, Cyno says, "Really? Based on your expression, I assume you found it wan-derful." Alhaitham, also off-screen, replies "Heh - maybe ask the Inazuman Wanderer what he thinks." Wanderer says, "Leave me out of this" in all caps. End ID.
Notes: nya as in the Japanese onomatopoeia for the sound a cat makes; wan as in the Japanese onomatopoeia for the sound a dog makes. The book in Nahida's hands has jisho (dictionary) written in Inazuman script on it.

The Magnus Protocol Alchemical Theory Ramble
I've been really into alchemy recentyl due to it's connections to The Magnus Protocol (probably to woe of my thesis supervisor), but the more I read the more some stuff that already have happened is starting to make sense to me. This post will be probably due to an update once I get further in my research, but I wanted to get some stuff out of my system as it's still fresh in my mind (people also wanted an update on my previous post where I spoke how there is a lot of connections between history of alchemy and TMAGP so here it is).
Keep in mind this is very brief explanation cause history of alchemy is MASSIVE, so I will be mostly focusing on a brief period in 12-14th century where alchemy was kind of the talk of the ruling class (mostly church). I will also not be explaning much the alchemical goals, but the purpouse of this post I will say chrysopoeia (transmutation of metals into gold) and connected concept of a Philosopher's Stone were two of the main ones.
Natural vs Artificial
The main concern with alchemy in the eyes of the church at the time was the issue of "natural" vs "artificial" gold. You see there were few loosely documented cases where alchemists seemingly reached one of their main goals and trasmutated some metals into gold. The problem was this "alchemical gold" was either devauling natural gold (if real), which was also an issue of "playing God" it was by divine design a fixed amount of gold in the world existed, or an elaborate way to counterfiet coins (if not real). This combined with the concerns of using artificial gold in medicine pushed alchemy into an underground by a decree of pope John XXII by forbidding alchemists from selling this alchemical gold (and silver). Roger Bacon and Albertus Magnus (known alchemists) were however both subscribed to idea that not only is alchemical gold equal to the natural one, it's actually better than natural one.
I see a connection here between "natural" fears (Smirk's 14) and "artificial" fears (clearly a faction of people who experiment on people, forcibly turning them into some type of creatures that resemble TMA's avatars). If we see Entities as apexes of their domains, these "offshoots" we've seen so far could be read as attempts of creating new entities by amature "alchemists" of this universe. This leads us very nicely into the second section.
Deckname, hiding in plain sight
You see, because alchemy was becoming quite controversial alchemists needed to hide their recipies. Deckname describes a way alchemists hid some of their exact recipies by using allegories, same names for multiple ingredients or (quite the opposite) one name for multiple ingredients. This concept wasn't new as in even in arabic writings on alchemy we can observer use of Deckname, but in ~13th century it was quite prelevant and even sometimes mixed with religious imagery (which will be important later). The general idea was to hide infromation with this type of "code", but not in such a way as it would be virtually impossible to decipher (as this would deem it useless). It also connects with the idea of "scattering" information (ingredients) as to send some scholars on this wild goose chase for Philosopher's Stone.
I don't think I need to talk much on how German way of hiding information might connect to the fact Freddie is a mysterious program written in German code that seemingly does not make much sense (with Deckname being intensively decribed by an arabist named KRAUS of all things). What I would like to point out that even very early on I believed that Freddie is used to crossreference attempts at creation of Philosopher's Stone and it's becoming much more likely this is a case, especially if you consider the next point.
The battle against the Antichrist
You see, alchemy wasn't like a one school of thought with a proper way to perform it, it was a science much like chemistry is today (alchemy is like a granddaddy of chemistry anyway). One of the concept that caught on, especially with the faction of Franciscan Spirituals (which is like hardcore Franciscans who liked to predict end of the world a lot) was the idea that Antichrist is coming and that all knowledge will be needed to stop him. Franciscan friar Roger Bacon even wrote a letter to the pope about it. This connected to with alchemy created a notion of a Philosopher's Stone as a tool in stopping the Antichrist which will be important later.
The Magnus Institute did tests on children that were mostly measuring three things: their developemnt, their empathy and how compliant they are. Given the history of the Institute in TMA it's hard to believe they were doing it for selfless and pure reasons, so I believe they were monitoring children to catch the possible "antichrist" and use their potnential for their own gain (note that I do not believe this "antichrist" is like a christian concept in TMAGP universe, I think it's something more aligned with entities or a purely symbolic title for some type of individual).
The torment of Messiah
For every Antichrist there's gotta be a-christ and alchemy actually did have a concept of one. You see, combining Deckname and the battle with Antichrist the Philosopher's Stone was very often hidden under the allegory of the Passion of Christ. Alchemists believed they are in a way tormenting metals by subduing them to all these processes (this is where the word crucible comes from by the way, it's "the little place of torment"), combine that with Antichrist theory and Jesus became a great allegory for creation of The Stone. Alchemists believe that metal (most often mercury) would have to go through four stages of torment before "ascending" similar how Jesus did (the incarnation, the crucifixion, the resurrection, and the ascension). This were in fact only believed to be instructions hidden in religious imagery.
I believe TMAGP does reverse of that concept. We've seen the Intitute use chemical terms like agent and catalyst do describe either the paranormal items or their wielders. I believe that the faction currently pulling the strings is using alchemical writings to experiment on people through tormenting them and exposing them to what is left of TMA Entities after traversing the universes. Some of those parts were used to make Freddie, that's why we got The Voices, but some are used to make eldritch abominations like we've seen so far. I'm not sure if Messiah in this sense is to be considered a benevolent concept, perhaps it's simply a being that will stop the apocalypse, but I believe that Antichrist is probably rebirth of The Prime Fear all Entities came from in TMA.
Closing thoughts
You can take that with a grain of salt, as I'm not a proficient alchemy scholar, but I won't deny the fact all of this so far fits pretty well and I can already see how this could play into many arcs (like how Celia has a baby that could be the "natural" antichrist and Sam with "chosen boy" issues could become the chosen "artificial" Messiah). If there are other points anyone with more knowledge on alchemy would like to mention in this post feel free to do so!

Hey there. I guess I need help with my chronivac. In my neighborhood there are more and more Arabic and Turkish men. It doesn't bother me that they are Arabic or Turkish or whatever. But they all look so extremely good - nice hair, nice beard, nice tan, nice bulges, extremely self confident... and I'm starting to get a little jealous, cause I'm a chubby, shy, white German (Alman).
Now the real Problem - the chronivac basic settings can't help me and the chronivac pro settings are way too complicated for me. So I hope you can help and change me to become less jealous in my neighborhood.
Okay, let's see how chronivac pro premium support can help you.
On your way to the subway in the morning, you usually grab a coffee to go at the kiosk in your ecologically sustainable reusable mug and buy a Süddeutsche Zeitung. But this morning you forgot your mug. So you order a Turkish mocha, which you drink directly at one of the bar tables. You also get a sesame seed curl and the BILD newspaper. For the first time, you talk to the owner of the kiosk. You've been a customer here for years. You take a second mocha and buy a pack of cigarettes. Fuck, then you're in the office half an hour later. Who cares?
You don't give a shit that smoking is not allowed on the platform. You blow your smoke onto the platform out of the subway and just throw the cigarette out onto the floor, while the doors are closing. And you snot right after it.
The work in the office pisses you off today. Boring chatter, unproductive meetings. During the lunch break, your colleagues are talking about Turkey's role in the Ukraine conflict. When you say that Erdogan is a great leader and that you would like to see more statesmen like him, everyone stares at you in disbelief. Fuck, that's right. Most heads of state are effeminate losers! We need more men who can thump their fists on the table. Like Erdogan and Putin.
You're glad when you can finally call it a day. You need a reward. Just normal people around you. You allow yourself a visit to the new barber store on your street. On the street in front of it a group of young men smoking. You have to wait only one cigarette length for a free appointment. You let one of the guys give you a light and smoke a cigarette with them. And then you sit down in the barber's chair. Can is an artist. You love the way he shapes your beard, makes your skull look more angular with the undercut, and trims your sprawling eyebrows. And he makes a damn good mocha.
When Can takes away the hairstyling cape, you're more than satisfied. Yes, to your brothers here, you're just an infidel. But you fit in quite well visually. Sure, most bros are better worked out than you. But you don't have to hide. It's just that you are so pale that annoys you. That's why you go directly before training on the tanning bed in the gym after the haircut . And so that the sweating is really worth it, after pumping up to the sauna. Hammam would be better, but there is no such thing in your discount gym.
Tumblr media
It doesn't show that you are not a Turk or an Arab. And since you speak fluent Turkish, Arabic and Albanian, no one in the sauna would suspect that you have a German passport. Infidel! No matter what they think of you. The main thing is that nothing can separate you and your brothers!

Doesn't Frankenstein deliberately build his creature to be beautiful? Dude's already doing eugenics by selecting the most aesthetic cadaver parts.
Well yes he did and it ended up the opposite despite his best efforts but to be honest the creature is described with black hair in conjunction with the line about making him beautiful so I would say that he's building a man to his aesthetic tastes rather then attempting to make a perfect Aryan or something. Which I suppose is a kind of eugenics technically maybe depending on how you define eugenics. But I don't think it's useful to our understanding of eugenics or to our understanding of the novel to apply that lense to it. Aesthetic choices need to be made in Victor Frankenstein's build a bitch laboratory. While he might be somewhat limited in skin color by being in Germany, he can pick more or less any hair or eye color he likes any bone structure he likes and so on. The monster is by necessity intentionally designed in a way that human beings are not. So any aesthetic choices made being made differently would result in the same moral outcome. It's less selective breeding for particular traits and more like basing the face mold of your android based off somebody's porn viewing habits like in that movie ex machina with Oscar Isaac.
All that being said he was designing a monster to impress German and Swiss scientists in the 17th century of course there were eugenics involved in his reasoning on the features. But the loosely implied eugenics are not even the most racist thing about the book either. It takes time out of its day to be orientalist as fuck. When Clerval comes to school he's taking fucking oriental studies which lumps together Arab Indian and Chinese philosophy, when the monster is living in the out house of the peasants an Arab woman named Safie arrives and her whole motive for being there is that she is trying to marry Felix because in the west women are allowed to have a station in society(citation needed) and if she went back to those barbaric Muslim countries she would be forced to join a harem. And then Clerval decides his calling is to quote "aid in the European colonization of India" and that line is just glossed over, he's a completely sympathetic character, and he dies at Adam's hands before he can do it. But I don't particularly blame Mary Shelley for any of that because who was gonna tell her that that's racist? It's the background radiation on society at the time. I hope if I ever get published people reading my book in 200 years will think of me as a pioneering trans author in my genre who was low key racist because it will mean society got better on the race issue.
Anyway tl;dr maybe, but reading the creature as a stand in for marginalized people is reading way against text (I think if you're reading it as a trans allegory the against text reading could work but a racial minority reading falls apart very quickly). The book contains orientalism that is jarring to a modern audience so let's not put the cart before the horse. It like most novels written in a year that starts with a 1, is a product of its time and requires that you read it with that in mind. it's part of how you read a book

Part 2:
Summary: Y/n arrives at a museum and meets Steven Grant. this one discovers that YIn is not the one he thinks
Steven grant × reader
During the night Y/n text steven
- hi steven i can't sleep!
- I hope I don't wake you up.
- if so forget this message and go back to sleep.
- you humans need some sleep !
The boy smiles at the message with a blush spreading on his face. He chuckles a little as he reads it. He thinks for a minute and the replys
- Don't worry, you didnt wake me up. I couldnt sleep just yet anyway.
- Are you alright? Is there something bothering you?" he texts back still smiling but with a little worry in his tone. He wanted you... his friend to be ok and not to be upset at anything.
- Yes yes
- I just finished all the books I took out of the library.
- I could teleport and collect some but hey I don't want the gods to be mad at me
The boys face lights up with wonder as you mention magic and your powers. He's always loved all sorts of fantasy and magic, so the idea that a god could do such a thing was amazing in his mind
- Teleportation... thats so cool... how do you do that? Can you just like think it and it happens? He asks in awe, his curiosity getting the better of him... he just has to know.
- yes that's it wait look
just like that y/n teleport to steven's room
« hi » Y/n says with a big smile
He jumped back half a step in pure surprise, a look of sheer shock on his face. The idea that the person he was speaking to just now is in his room was incredible, the idea that someone could have that power. He just stares at you for a second, not knowing what to say at first, his eyes wide as well.
"H-How is that possible? That's... that's... just incredible..."
« sorry it's a little rude but as you told me that you don't sleep I thought that I could come. Damn I'm really a bad friend, friends don't show up like that! »
He laughs a little and smiles at you, trying to make you not feel bad. He doesn't think of you as a bad friend at all and he didn't mind the fact that you teleported into his room without telling him first, all he cares about is that you are safe and happy.
"No no that's completely fine! That was... incredible. I'm just kinda surprised you have that power..." He smiles at you, still a look of shock on his face "You're not a bad friend at all..."
« you really mean it! » Y/n jump on him to give him a hug
´He hugs you back.
"I really do! I think thats an awesome power you have. Is it only teleportation or can you do anything else too? Is it all gods that have that power or..." He asks softly. He was so curious and wanted to find out so much more now. He thought that gods were just... myths but here she was, one of them, a real goddess, in his room. He couldn't believe it. Gods could walk the earth, just like that, as normal people. It was mind boggling.
« so i can teleport as well as things look » Y/n move one of the books on steven's desk in my hands
The boy watches as you move the book with a look of awe and wonder.
"How is that possible?!" He says with a wide-eyed, surprised look. It's like he's just found out that these legends are real and not just stories. He can't believe it even though you're right there in front of him, and he can't help be in awe every time you use a power. « Wow... that's... that's crazy! How does that even..."
He seems to be speechless for a few seconds, he's never seen anything like that.
y/n look at the book in his hands
« so you read books in french? you can speak French ? »
The boy nods
"Yeah i can speak French... actually i can speak a lot of languages. Like... i know French, English, Spanish, Japanese, Mandarin, German, Arabic, Farsi, and Latin. I've been learning different languages ever since i was a little kid. I really love learning about other cultures and languages and their histories. This book was one of the first in French that i bought!"
He's still a very passionate person and seems eager to share his interests with you, he talks about them quite animated and excited, his eyes lit up with all that knowledge.
« so you're never gonna stop surprising me pretty boy »
He chuckles a little at your comment and blushes but he still has that passion in his voice.
"I'm glad you find my knowledge of different languages interesting, there are so many ways that the language of the world can be connected. I think the best way to understand other cultures is to learn their language and it's history. The more you know the more you begin to really get a better understanding of the world and the cultures and people in it"
he says with a broad smile "Why do you want to know? Do you also like learning new languages?"
« yes you know being a goddess, I have several billion years so to occupy myself I learned all the languages possible I believe »
The boy's eyes light up with wonder at your comments before he puts his hands on his hips
"Wait really? That means... are you billions and billions of years old? You lived back in the time when there were dinosaurs? Or the cave men?! That must be so amazing to have walked the earth in all those eras. You must have so much knowledge! Have you seen like... all the different cultures from hundreds of years ago?"
« yes » Y/n laugh
« it's quite fascinating to see how men evolve »
The boy chuckles
"Yeah it really is. Humans are quite fascinating aren't they? We just keep on growing and evolving and coming up with new ways to live it seems. You know we have the internet now? And technology so complex that we can even explore our own solar system? Even the ancient gods couldn't do that all those years ago, right? It just seems insane to me you know? To think humans are that smart and can go to other planets. Just goes to show you how complex and intelligent we can be, right?"
« yes I totally agree. You know how I could stop being eternal if I wanted to »
the boy raises his eyebrows in curiosity, his eyes widen a little as he looks at you.
"You could? How?" he asks excitedly "You don't have to answer if it's a secret or anything but i am curious. Is that really possible to like... stop being a god?"
« It is quite simple. When a god or a goddess finds his great love the goal is to spend his whole life with. We are supposed to find our great love between us, between god. But it is possible for a god or a goddess to fall in love with a human. And to perpetuate the tradition, the god or the goddess can grow old alongside the human who is his true love. But that means giving up his powers and becoming a human. Personally, it wouldn't be a problem for me if my great love is a human »
Y/n look at steven with stars in his eyes
The boy blushes a little at the way you are looking at him. A soft smile spreads across his face as he looks at you, his eyes sparkling with interest at your words. He listens intently at the tale about god's great love and then his eyes light up as he looks at you, realizing what your implying. His eyes are wide and full of awe and surprise.
"Wait... do you... do you mean your great love is... me?" he says, almost in disbelief, his breath caught in his throat for a second "Really?"
« At first i thought it was konshu, then as i told you i ran into you. After that it doesn't matter if you don't want me. Don't worry, no problem. »
Y/n was embarrassed « I- I should leave »
The boy chuckles and shakes his head at your shy, embarrassed act. He seems so happy his face is lighting up as he talks and he just has a smile that can't be hidden. He shakes his head again but this time his smile gets even bigger as his eyes fill with happiness.
He nods and walks towards you and then holds out his hand, his eyes have a bright twinkle in them, like he thinks this is something amazing, for a god and a mortal to fall in love with each other, like something out of an old story book or myth. This is amazing.
« Are you ok with that ? »
The boy nods enthusiastically and he seems absolutely over the moon, he's just giggling happily while blushing. He smiles at you and then pulls you into a big warm hug.
"I'm more than ok with that! I'm so happy you feel that way. i couldn't imagine finding someone better or being happier than being with you". he says with a soft smile. He's just so happy.
"So what happens now?" He says playfully "Are we... official?" he says as he sticks his tongue out a little.
Y/n was so happy « uh technically since the day you were born we are official but yes-yes we are official. » Y/n look at steven with a big smile
The boy smiles broadly back and blushes a little. He cant help but feel his heart beating and fluttering a little with every word you say, his face lights up and the whole world just seems like a happier place as a goddess is... falling in love with him? He just keeps thinking it's crazy. He can't believe it really but he's so... happy. He hugs you again and holds on tight, just wanting you to feel loved and cared for, and for you to know how he feels about you.
Your happiness is his happiness now.
« Steven I think that-that i love you » Y/n blush
The boy blushes and smiles in return
"I think i love you too. It's all so... sudden, you know? A goddess just falls for a mortal. It feels so... magical. Like one of those old stories you'd read to kids." he laughs as he speak
"In old tales all these magical things just always happen and you don't believe it. But now... here you are, a beautiful goddess from ancient times who is so sweet and kind as well. You are so... perfect." He smiles and blushes "I love you too"
« maybe one day someone will tell our story. I love you so much »
The boy smiles happily and lets out a small laugh.
"Yeah, we could be the next Romeo and Juliet, you know? The immortal love story of a God and a mortal. A story that would be remembered forever. It's almost too incredible to be true but look, here we are. We really are lucky, aren't we?" he says still with a soft smile
All of a sudden the gaze of Y/n became sad. « I can't pretend anymore sorry I lie to you…»
The boys eyes widen and his whole expression changes. He looks so shocked he can't even speak. He's just looking at you in utter shock, he just stares open-mouthed with surprise, his face full of confusion and hurt
"You lied?" he asks in a shocked tone, he seemed so hopeful a moment ago and so happy and now all that's gone, it's just shock and sadness. This just... why would you do that? Did... did he do something wrong? He just stares at you, trying to make sense of it all.
« i am-i am not a goddess »
to be continued…

Things in YuuMori that could be the authors not quite knowing or it could be part of the story - Part 1
So, we can all agree that YuuMori takes quite a few ... artistic liberties, when it comes to western historical accuracy, christian themes etc. (Which I, as a christian-raised european, actually quite enjoy, it takes the forced "perfection" out of the equation and makes for a much more pleasant reading of the actual story)
Now I was thinking of some things, that stood out to me, when reading the manga, that I wanted to talk about
(This will mostly focus on the english translation of the manga, because my japanese is not yet good enough to reliably understand the whole context, so if you see something, that doesn't come across in the english translation very well, but is in the japanese, please do not hesitate to tell me)
This will also be a multi-part-series, because it goes on longer than I thought it would
Sherlock's Cockney Dialect
As people have previously pointed out, Sherlock and Mycroft were born in "North Riding" (presumably "The North Riding Of Yorkshire", which is a historical region near York in, you guessed it, Yorkshire), as per the official character sheets in Volume 18
In Volume 2 Chapter 5 "The Noahtic, Act 1" William says Sherlock "[CHOOSES] to speak with a Cockney Accent"
Tumblr media
And while Sherlock doesn't actually speak in a Cockney Accent in the manga (because american translators can't write british dialects apparently) it does get implied every now and then
Now, Cockney is a VERY regional dialect and sociolect of english, that is basically only spoken by the working class and lower middle class in London (which is about 300 km away from Yorkshire (which doesn't sound like a lot, but for a dialect it is))
Side Note - Cockney can also historically more or less refer to people, things, culture etc. from London's East End (The place where William and Louis grew up, before they were adopted into the Moriarty house hold, and I think it's quite funny to imagine William and Louis being able to switch between Cockney and The Queen's English quite easily, and maybe even other dialects)
So Sherlock was born in Yorkshire, has a brother who speaks The Queen's English and chooses to speak in Cockney ... How does that make sense?
And some people have proposed that Sherlock might have commuted between Yorkshire and London when he was younger and therefore he might have picked up Cockney on some or other escapades to The East End Of London, but that doesn't seem completely right
And honestly I did think at first that it was just Miyoshi-Sensei and / or Takeuchi-Sensei not being quite aware of english dialects (and granted, that could be the case)
BUT it could also be, that Sherlock and Mycroft's The Queen's English speaking father, married their Cockney speaking mother
(At this point it should be stated that "proper" The Queen's English is more or less an "artificial dialect" (as artificial as english dialects can get, (which is not very)) and learned and used a lot by for example the BBC (that's why it's also sometimes called BBC english) and government officials (at least until a few decades ago) and about as close as you can get to a british "high english" as some other languages have "high languages" (high german, high arabic etc.))
So father Holmes, presumably a government official, might actually come from The North Riding Of Yorkshire, learned The Queen's English, met mother Holmes, had children with her
And while Mycroft, probably already early on, was involved with the Holmes' legacy and almost always has to hold himself in a "proper manner"
Sherlock, as the second son, probably didn't feel as much pressure to conform (or he just didn't really care) and if he has a better relationship with his mother than he has with his father, then maybe he just decided he did not want and / or need to "[FIX] his accent" (as he says to Billy in Chapter 67), the dialect of his mother, Cockney
Tumblr media
He might consciously choose to speak in Cockney and not force himself to speak The Queen's English, because he is proud of his and his mother's roots, like William says
I will for now try to ignore the fact that it doesn't really make sense for someone like Sherlock and Mycroft's father (who is presumably a relatively high-ranking government official like Mycroft) to marry someone from a class in London that speaks Cockney (like Sherlock and Mycroft's mother and / or her family apparently does)

we are so glad to see you safe, prince cyrus badi of egypt! it’s dangerous out in the world these days, but i hear that you are valiant and faithful enough to handle it. just don’t let your unpredictability bring you down! stay on your guard, because with your secret being at risk for exposure, you wouldn’t want everyone to find out your birth family valued money over you.

quick facts!
his origin story, for the most part, remains a mystery to him. any memories that briefly flicker from the back of his mind to the front are often blurry; something that might be for the better, given the circumstances of how he came to be taken in by the egyptian royal family.
growing up within that family was a blessing in more ways than one. he never had to question whether or not he truly belonged with them nor was he ever made to feel out of place, like an extra in their story. as he grew older, the bond with his parents and siblings only got stronger, translating in his ever present need to make sure they know how much he cares for them and their country. an unwavering loyalty that isn't extended to just anyone.
his thirst for knowledge has always been strong, a direct correlation with his constant studying and traveling when able; immersing himself in new cultures and the different points of view they offered. this also fed into his knack for science and invention, questioning what information they already possess about vast subjects and conspiracies, and everything that could come from them.
a romantic at heart, a purely strategic and loveless marriage is the last thing he wants, though he would never dream of ruining an alliance with ethiopia on behalf of his family. while he knows he needs to put his best foot forward and keep his mind open with his betrothal, he's unsure on whether or not his heart can handle doing the same so soon. as definitively losing joanna has reopened a wound he didn't know he had.
wanted connections!
people he's met and made friends with during his travels over the years — don't have to be royal! could've kept in touch through letter exchanges and becoming pen pals, or have only reconnected since arriving here.
those who shares the same interest(s) as him! someone who races with him for fun as well as leisure horseback rides, someone who also has an unquenchable need for learning new things and/or invention — someone willing to humor his experiments or ideas!
friends, acquaintances, etc. he's generally a very lively and outgoing person and thinks of himself as easy to get along with, so budding friendships are always welcome!
enemies or one sided rivals! i do say one sided because it's not very easy to make him not like someone, but a person not vibing with his sunshine-y attitude? maybe something to do with his intellect for a rivalry but cyrus thinks it's all jokes? much to think about

'Easy' Conlanging
Sometimes I get asked for feedback about languages, or get asked to for commissions, but I also get questions of the sort “What is the easiest way for a non-language-geek to create a language that’s just “good enough”?” for background purposes in some fictional setting. So I thought I’d post my thoughts on this.
First, a caveat - as you are probably aware - realism and depth are proportional to the time put into the language. They are also a spectrum, so “how much” is enough can be hard to answer. Additionally, if you succeed and make it interesting enough, fans will want to poke around and find out how it works. Then they will realize whether there’s more to the language or not. (And possibly make their own version of it.) You’re better off creating more depth and detail than you need, because trying to flesh out something AFTER the fact is much more difficult. You will end up with inconsistencies and explaining them away will eventually take more work than creating a detailed grammar in the first place. From my experience working on languages with people who had already named characters before trying to make the language, making a language invariably ends up forcing name changes.
(1800-word wall of text to follow)
Your best bet is over-creating, or getting someone else to do, but I understand this isn’t possible for everyone. Maybe you don’t have time to learn & do it all yourself, or money to pay someone. May you live in an Amazon warehouse.
That said, if you know what you want and make some basic design choices ahead of time, you can simplify the process. So I’ll tell you what I think is the quickest way to make a reasonable-looking language.
STEP ONE: GOALS
What do you want? The important questions are probably:
HOW much realism and depth do you need? Does the language have a long history, does it have a wide range (possible dialectal differences), are there levels of speech and a literary tradition? Yes to any of these = more work.
Do you only need one language?
If you have more than one language ARE THEY RELATED?
Does it need a writing system, or is writing it in Roman letters fine? Writing system = a lot more work.
Are you going to use it ONLY for names, or might you want to translate phrases? Even simple sentences will require grammar that you can ignore in names.
Is there any real-life language you want it to sound like? If there is, you might get away with copying the phonology.
STEP TWO: PHONOLOGY
The phonology / spelling is the most obvious part to audiences so you should do the most work here. Start by organizing the sounds you want in it in a table. You can copy an IPA chart somewhere & start adding or removing sounds you like to it.
Most languages do not have random groups of sounds. Their sounds line up sort of neatly in the chart. Most rows AND columns should have several sounds. Beware if your chart looks too gappy. Some languages (Classical Arabic) may have lots of gaps but don’t do this as a general rule.
Many creators have real world languages that they like (“I want something that sounds kind of Germanic”). In that case, you can go to the Wikipedia article & copy the sound chart, possibly adding / subtracting 1-2 sounds.
Besides the sounds, you should think about how they combine (phonotactics). Does your language have simple or complex syllables? Can 2 (or more vowels occur in a row? How many consonants can occur in a row? Can syllables begin with vowels or end with consonants? Along with this, please decide which syllable in your words receives stress, or whether stress is fixed at all. As far as the “feeling” of the language goes, this is just as important as which sounds you choose.
Keep in mind, the fewer sounds there are, and the simpler the syllables, the more syllables words will need in order to avoid having lots of homophones.
TIP: Try to keep your names under four syllables, unless you plan to create nicknames for them. Nobody likes or will even remember a 20-letter personal name, unless its length is part of the joke.
Now take it to a word generator like the Zompist WordGen (https://www.zompist.com/gen.html) and plug in all the phonemes and follow the instructions for making rules & it will spit out a giant list of possible words in your language. Don’t just use them all, at least glance at each word & select it, because no matter how you engineer it some of the words will be fugly.
If you only need names, make up mostly noun, adjective, and verb meanings. If you need sentences, you may need prepositions, conjunctions, etc., depending on how inflectional you are (step 5).
*TIP: If you want added depth, create an EARLIER version of your language, and then run sound changes on it with the SCA (https://www.zompist.com/sca2.html) to create the target language.
(*OTHER NOTE: You will absolutely need to create a parent language, no buts, if you want to create another language that’s related, and if you try to get around it, the result will look fake and lame.)
STEP THREE. DECIDE THE ORTHOGRAPHY
…or at least the Romanization. If you need a unique writing system, you won’t have an easy time so I assume you don’t. That would require another post. Right now you might have IPA words but you probably don’t want to write your world’s names in IPA. Most of the audience won’t know how to read them. Assuming your audience is English-speaking, try to decide the nearest approximation of the pronunciation using the 26 letters of the alphabet with kind of English-ish spelling conventions. I.e., you should probably spell /ʃ/ as SH instead of CH like French or X like Portuguese.
*NOTE: Will you use any diacritics (accent marks)? Some people like ‘em, some people hate ‘em. Even if you love them, try not to use more than two kinds in your language. And make sure the accent actually means something, don’t just throw random ones in. The same point applies to apostrophes: please don’t just throw them in there.
STEP FOUR: WORD ORDER
Figure out the order of elements. Pick one of these two:
“VO” MENU - “OV” MENU
noun before adjective - adjective before noun possession before possessor - possessor before possession verb before object - object before verb preposition before noun - noun before POSTposition noun before relative clause - relative clause before noun. name before surname - surname before name title before name - name before title some prefixes - mostly suffixes
Languages tend towards one of these types. Very few are perfectly consistent (English isn’t), and some languages are widely off-type, but MOST languages are MOSTLY in one of these camps. And you should probably not mess with them too much if your plan is not to be really involved in the grammar.
Some of these are most important for forming sentences. If you’re just making names, at least decide the first three orders. But by choosing one of those basic types ahead of time, you can expand the grammar by adding the rules that tend to go with the type.
If you’re making sentences too - congratulations! You got a bonus choice!
From the VO menu, choose…
SVO (subject - verb - object)
VSO (verb - subject - object)
VOS (verb - object - subject)
From the OV menu, choose…
SOV (subject - object - verb)
OSV (object - subject - verb)
OVS (object - verb - subject)
*NOTE: the last two are really, really rare, but an easy way to make your language seem weird.
STEP FIVE: ANALYTIC OR SYNTHETIC?
What this means is, does the language have lots of inflections or not? Are its words fairly simple or complex? If it is analytic, it will have few or no inflections. Most of the relationship between words will be fixed by word order, which will be inflexible. Most of your names will be compound words. The parts of the compound may be more or less abstract, but will exist and have meanings as independent words.
If your language is synthetic, you will have inflections. Most words will consist of a root with prefixes or suffixes added to it. So make some prefixes or suffixes, according to your type.
For a naming language, I would advise at least suffixes to:
make an adjective from a noun
make a noun from an adjective
make a noun from a verb
make a diminutive or nickname-former
“son of” or equivalent
“place of” blah de blah
For making sentences, add:
suffix to turn nouns into verbs
suffix to turn adjective into verbs
a couple of suffixes to make different verb tenses or moods
(optional) person suffixes on verbs
(optional) case suffixes on nouns
Oh, I almost forgot, make some plurals.
I advise you to make your inflectional language agglutinative, with easily distinguishable suffixes that tack onto each other in a neat order. I don’t advise a fusional language (where suffixes combine more than one grammatical category). If this is your first time for goodness sake don’t make a Semitic triliteral root language.
OPTIONAL:
If you need sentences, you have additional choices:
Do nouns have case suffixes?
Do verbs have person suffixes?
If the answer is NO to both, then your word order is probably very rigid. If the answer is YES to either, then also decide:
Is your language nominative-accusative or ergative-absolutive?
Look them up. You could also have split-ergative, or something exotic like direct-inverse, but you're best off making it consistently nominative-accusative or ergative-absolutive.
STEP SIX:
Create cool culturally appropriate expressions from your words. If you’re not a grammar nerd this will probably be the most fun part. General rule: More is less - it’s best to express as many concepts as you can by combining the elements you’ve already made, than making up a new word for each new concept.
Hope you have fun making your language.
I invite other conlangers to chime in with their advice.

I graduated three years ago from my master’s program. I finished with a straight-A average, got the best grade on the scale from my thesis, and got picked to a research group for a multidisciplinary project from a bunch of qualified candidates. I was told by my supervisor and by the person who graded my thesis that I should continue my studies on PhD level. I wanted to continue my studies on PhD level. So what did I do when I arrived back from Rome?
Started teaching in middle school.
The reasons were (mostly) financial: COVID shut me the opportunity to return to my old place of work, and I got offered a teaching position after sending applications to practically anywhere I could imagine working. The idea of having a job that I had an education for was alluring, too, even though I never really wanted to teach for a long term.
I have now taught in middle school for 2,5 years. I don’t particularly like the job - I like to teach, yes, and both religion and history are lovely subjects with many opportunities - as the everyday demands with cramped classrooms, students who need more individual support that it is possible for one person to offer (while still teaching all the other kids in the classroom), and the angry parents are quite a lot to deal with. They also create the kind of challenges I don’t particularly want to solve, nor have the resources to solve. On a personal level, I don’t feel like I’m moving forward or learning to be a better teacher, and so, with all this cynicism that is just increasing every day, the entire purpose of my job is to survive for a day, a week, a month, until the next vacay. Which I need to use to gather my strength and rest. The sheer noise of school/classroom makes me want to go directly to sleep after each workday.
In short, I’m working in a job that could be interesting, but isn’t that for me. I need to find an out before I get even more burnt out than I already am.
The obvious choice, the dream choice, would be going back to the academia. But, as we all know, it isn’t that easy. PhD applications are a challenging project, where you need to stand out as both an excellent scholar and a person that is agreeable enough to work with. And trying to stand out as a middle school teacher who just *wants* to return to academia because she can’t tolerate the idea of staying in the classroom for any more time is... difficult.
I always feel like I’m not enough to apply anywhere. I might have a curious mind, but my imagination is lacking and it has always been very difficult to me to find a fresh angle to any given topic - which, to me, sounds like an essential skill to a PhD student. My English is better than it has been, but I’m still not anywhere near native speaker level, and I have little other language skills to compensate for that. I read French, Italian, and German all to some degree, but I’m not capable of writing or conversing in them. As a historian, my knowledge of ancient languages is lacking, too. My Latin isn’t as good as it should be. My Greek is barely there, as are my Hebrew and Arabic. I know I can study more, I know I *have to* study more, but still, the feeling of being just too incapable of doing anything with these skills lingers.
I know I can write. The problem is I hate writing. After graduating, I have participated in two different article collections, and it's been an honor, but I still enjoy reading other people’s thoughts far more than I enjoy vocalizing my own. So, this has lead me to think that perhaps I don’t want a PhD, perhaps I just miss the academia - getting to read and converse and enjoy being surrounded by curious people who love the same sticks and stones I do? Maybe academia in itself is my happy place, but taking the next step there isn’t for me?
So maybe I should leave my job and apply for another master’s. I could do history, as I already have a strong background there, or Islamic studies, psychology or philosophy, as I used to minor in those. I could expand my expertise and study something like gender/intersectionality studies. Or I could just try to apply to some prestigious school and see if the grass is greener in there, if that would make me feel like I was able to conduct original research sometime in the future.
At the same time, I feel like doing a new master’s would not only be a financial suicide but also taking a step back - a step I have already taken and completed relatively successfully. I have ideas that I love, I have willingness to pursue these ideas and see where they would take me, but taking the next step and trying to sell these ideas feels so terrifying that it’s debilitating. I have spent so many days lying in my bed reading fanfiction when I could have sent emails to some professors I know could help me (or ignore me, which probably is the more realistic worst case scenario in comparison to the imaginary derision and laughter I’m expecting in my head).
I feel so tired and confused and alone with all these thoughts and dreams and hopes and fears. Some days, they just hurt me more than they usually do, and today is just one of those days.

I have so many issues. So many here. Please read to the end as I promise you this is not an attack on any one country.
Firstly the first two are now Saturday night races to accommodate Ramadan. Arab nations bought into F1 fully knowing it was Sunday races. Knew what was expected of them.
However when the FIA and FOM moved hell and high water to accommodate a Vegas race no fans seem to want, that precedent was done with. Whilst they conveniently forgot that they would NEVER race in Italy over Easter weekend.
Swapping Azerbaijan and Japan is an interesting move. Do they hope it will be less wet in Japan and less windy in Baku?
China, Azerbaijan to Italy made a little bit of sense. Japan to Miami to Azerbaijan makes no sense though. “We can’t have a race there during NFL season”. Well maybe it’s time we accepted Miami is not a viable location for a Grand Prix then? Why not Japan, Malaysia, Azerbaijan. Better track, fans want to go back there, logical commute. China, Turkey, Imola. Also an option.
Canada in the middle of the European season. There were no words, none. In no way do I think we should drop Canada, but not considering the climate restrictions they have for a race, whilst pandering to the three US races who don’t want to be too close together because it will effect ticket sales. Madness.
Drop a US race and insert the European Grand Prix to open the European calander. This will alternate between Portimao, Paul Riccard and a German track of their choosing. Let’s thank them for getting us out the shit and racing during Covid.
We need to go to Africa. We don’t care where. Take us back to South Africa, build a new circuit in Morocco, we don’t care, just take us back to that continent. Take some of the money you are pocketing from the oil rich East and the US circuits and invest in getting a track in Africa. It can follow the Spanish race or be the last race before summer break.
Again don’t want to lose Singapore but it is now sitting in the calendar like billy no mates, can’t it go to the other side of the Americas block? Singapore back to the Middle East? Is that not easier than Europe, Aisa, Americas, Middle East? Also the more night races they add the unique selling point of Singapore dilutes more and more, which is not fair to them. They were the original night race.
In fairness they probably are the best selection of European tracks there is. Yes we could run a 24 race European season with all the tracks available. I hope that in years to come they will curate other regions the same way. Austin, Mexico, Brazil is pretty much a perfect set already.
Why are we still indulging the Qatar madness? I see no need for it other than to give Abu Dhabi a friend. Ditch it. Las Vegas to Abu Dhabi will give you the glamorous finale Liberty want.
I know they are trying but they need to ditch the races that can’t deliver. I do think China’s days are numbered for various reasons. Zandvoort’s popularity post Max will be an interesting watch as well. I can’t see Miami is sustainable long term. My hope is that the spaces will be given to permanent tracks that open up the market, maybe invest in getting the India track back.
There is a way this calendar can flow it’s just requires, ahem, not making as much money 😳

Money - what would you do with your life if money was no object?
Hobby - what hobbies do you have or want to get into?
Daisy - do you have any pets? If not, do you want any?
Bees - what’s your go to spring outfit?
Sage - what life advice would you give to someone younger?
Vernacular - what language do you wish you could speak or want to learn?
sorry these are not in order
Money - what would you do with your life if money was no object?
the hard hitting questions first i see :') i think i'd love learning to be a handyman so that i can help around my neighborhood with anything, cause in general i thrive doing straightforward tasks on comission, but that would require a place that needs this kind of help in the first place. my neighborhood currently is nowhere near that close-knit. so i don't know. if it's not about money, that means i can work for a number of hours adapted to my capability, so i think i'd love having a basic fast food job if not for the money/time ratio. or a compromise like mail carrier, or maybe janitor but that's a little more boring cause it's neither outside nor people-oriented.
i think there's some artisanal crafts i would love to learn if i had the peace of mind that i don't need to wear the small business owner hat for it to be a viable career, but most of them i don't think i can develop the skills or the passion for it. and the ones i do i am somewhat seriously considering anyway.
can you tell i have no idea what to do with my life rn
Hobby - what hobbies do you have or want to get into?
Main hobbies are writing fanfic sometimes and baking some stuff when inspiration strikes, so not much. I already sew a little but I'd love to get more into it and develop more skills! I really ought to take classes one of these days. I've thought about going back to doing sports now that I get out of the house more, but no particular one has caught my attention. I've heard rowing is fun, so. Possibly that. And I've been trying to make myself read more again, since that was my number one time sink back when I was a kid.
Daisy - do you have any pets? If not, do you want any?
I do! One cat! I love him but adopting him taught me that I'm not built to have pets lmao so I'm doing my best to take care of him but he'll likely stay the only pet I'll ever have. Definitely the only cat.
Bees - what’s your go to spring outfit?
Same as all year round fdgjfhj baggy yoga pants & powerwolf tshirt i'm not really an outfits person. i do get a little more creative some days but nothing like a go-to outfit unfortunately
Sage - what life advice would you give to someone younger?
That's... complicated. I don't really feel like I've got much figured out honestly, and I'm still very young. I guess my advice is that everything is subjective and also that happiness and open-mindedness and kindess are all virtuous circles. If you make yourself be happy and open-minded and kind and you make yourself like things, it starts becoming real. It's more something targeted towards tweenage me in particular than any younger person tho :')
Vernacular - what language do you wish you could speak or want to learn?
THANK YOU for asking this question omg. Let's get the obvious answer out of the way first, I would LOVE to speak german cuz it's a school requirement and I'm really not doing well so far. But also more good-naturedly, it's a pretty fun language, and likely one that would be useful to speak in my particular geographical situation so to say. It's mostly a problem with learning methods, I did have fun learning the vocabulary when I could do it more on my own.
Beyond that, I'd love to learn latin. I'm a romance language native so it's especially useful for etymology, and I think being able to understand sayings, old texts, church latin, pig latin, etc, better, is so interesting.
Then uh, all the usual answers I guess. Russian and arabic are two big ones, first because seeing scripts I don't understand makes me cranky >:( and also for the number of speakers. Always useful. The other big languages don't appeal to me as much, some of them because I'm a little scared of the complexity (mandarin, japanese) and some of them just cause meh (spanish, portugese is a little more interesting but not much). Of course theoretically I'd like to speak as many languages as possible, but realistically... I'll stick to maybe learning the basics one day. Korean is sorta advertised as a very easy writing system and so with the cultural relevance of korea today I think if I end up trying to be solidly multilignual I might go for it?
The big problem for me is more the learning process than the motivation, so I don't think most of these are realistic enough, at least as far as I can tell. I'll go as far as I can with german and maybe try to pick up another language later on based on what would be useful in my circumstances.

headcanons (this is just going to be a running list of headcanons, i’ll update as i think of more)
𝒊 — kamaria worked as a model when she was younger, posing for a few high fashion catalogues and walking on a few runways but she gave it up out of boredom when she was nineteen. too many desperate wannabes and eager photographers. the last straw was when a trespasser managed to sneak backstage during fashion week and take pictures of all the models in various states of undress, drugs everywhere, and a few unfortunate models struggling to close their zips. kamaria quit the next day.
𝒊𝒊 — kamaria spent her life living all around the world, so it’s only natural that she ended up with a fascinating talent for languages. She’s fluent in english, french, spanish, arabic, italian, russian, german, and portuguese. it’s a talent of hers that she loves to show off whenever she can and it makes traveling (and work) exceptionally easy for her.
𝒊𝒊𝒊 — while kamaria doesn’t really make an effort to spare collateral damage, she has a surprisingly loyal heart. the issue, she believes, is that no one has proved themselves worthy of her loyalty but when she loves someone, she loves them wholly and unconditionally. her love, however, is not something many people would want—she’s possessive and obsessive and she views those she cares for as hers in every sense of the word. perhaps it’s a good thing that she hasn’t found anyone worthy of her love yet. her attitude towards flings and casual relationships (which are all she entertains, after all) is careless and cruel to a fault. she doesn’t care much for feelings and finds it amusing when those she tangles herself with become too attached to her, but she always discards them without a second thought.
secrets
𝒊 — she had an affair with a teacher when she was sixteen. when her parents found out, they had him deported. she booked a flight to canada and tried to elope with him, but they found out and sent her to boarding school in sweden for a semester. it changed her outlook on relationships forever, mainly the way power can work between two people. she thinks, because she pursued him and she was the one who attempted to get back with him, she held the power and has always tried to maintain power in all her relationships since then.
𝒊𝒊 — she left manhattan five years ago in an attempt to “better herself”. that didn’t happen. it’s all a facade and while some people might not be convinced, kami has always been an expert at keeping up a mask. she’s a clever, sharp businesswoman and no one needs to think she’s anything but. no one needs to know she’s planning on wreaking more havoc than she ever has.
𝒊𝒊𝒊 — during the five years kamaria was gone, she lived all over the world in an attempt to build her own reputation in the art world under her father’s guidance. a long string of affairs with high profile politicians, movie stars, public figures, and anyone with a claim to fame has followed her. she traded her company for secrets—their secrets—and she’s kept them all close to her heart should the need ever arise.
𝒊𝒗 — her biggest secret of all—she’s a complete conwoman. her family’s businesses are mainly legitimate, with one small exception. they deal in forgeries all across the world, displaying fakes in their galleries while the real masterpieces are traded underground for millions. kami and her father receive the biggest cut. he included her in the “family business” when she left manhattan five years ago and she’s earned more than enough trust from both him and all his partners.

biography
part i. ira // rage
No one really knows where Kamaria came from. She was picked up out of the foster system by two people who had never been able to have kids of their own: Elias Kaplan, renowned art dealer and famous cultural icon, and his wife Emilee, former high fashion model turned socialite. Technically, she was raised in Manhattan, but in reality, they never spent much time in one place. Kami went to boarding schools across the world, spent summers in exotic resorts, practiced foreign languages until she spoke like a local, but she always ended up back in New York. Maybe New York is the only thing that could ever hold claim to her heart. Maybe New York is the only thing that could handle it.
One thing she’d always loved was the beauty of violence. She’d always been fascinated with the fine line between Gothic macabre and unearthly beauty. She wanted to create some of her own, so she did. As a child, Kamaria lied to housemaids and bit her fellow classmates, shattered glasses and wept false tears in an effort to get what she wanted. It didn’t take long for her to grow up and realize she could do so much more. She learned how to lie from her father and manipulate from her mother and she used it all to her advantage. She tried her hand at playing docile little girl, with pretty doe eyes and a coy smile and found that it didn’t suit her. What Kamaria liked was the chaos of it all, reveling in the knowledge that she had wrecked something and people would hate her for it, fear her for it. As she evolved from wretched little girl to unbearable teenager, she realized how much fun it was to be the ringleader. She watched her fellow peers struggle every day not to take a step out of place and couldn’t bother to pity them; it wasn’t her problem they weren’t cut out for this kind of life. It wasn’t enough to pretend to be perfect, you had to be willing to get your hands dirty and Kamaria understood that better than anyone.
And more than that, she enjoyed it. It thrilled her to take someone down, frame an innocent bystander for some petty inconvenience, watch someone’s face drop as they realized the entire world knew a secret they’d been trying so hard to keep. Kamaria wasn’t trusted, but she didn’t need that. One of the first things her father taught her was that anyone worth keeping around would stab you in the back, and if they hesitated, all it did was prove their weakness. Kamaria took the advice to heart and she ran with it. Her adolescence passed by in a blur of nights out with those she kept by her side, flings she entertained for a week or so, parties that never seemed to stop, and one scandal after another. A house of cards that she could topple with one brush of a finger. If chaos had a face, Kamaria’s pretty doe eyes were the unforgettable symbol. Even during the months she disappeared across continents weren’t enough to break the chokehold she had wrapped Manhattan in. But everyone gets bored and even in a society so cutthroat, the victims get boring, and a permanent change of scenery is required.
part ii. impetus // attack
“I doubt I’ll make it to thirty,” she said once to a former lover, smoking cigarettes in his hotel room somewhere in South America. He had traced a finger down her cheek and begged her not to say that, claimed it made his heart hurt when she joked of being hit by a car or going down in a plane crash. Kamaria knew it wasn’t people she was vulnerable to, but her own vices. She wasn’t stupid, nor did she believe she was invincible. She just believed other people didn’t have the capacity to hurt her, but the drugs did. Alcohol and sex and risky business could catch up to her but it didn’t scare her all that much. “What if you do make it?” he had asked her, and Kamaria had turned to him with a malicious grin and blew smoke in his face. “I guess I’ll have to do the job myself, won’t I?”
Disappearing from the city wasn’t a hard decision to make. Kamaria was getting bored, her father wanted her to join the family business, and the strings she’d so loved to pull were getting frayed. So she left. Milan, Tokyo, Nice, Montevideo—it didn’t matter. She had her way with words and people and for five years, Kami lived around the world making a name for herself outside of Manhattan. The art world welcomed her with open arms thanks to her family’s longstanding reputation as respected figures in high society, and her father watched her flourish enough to trust her with the more discreet details of his business.
And Kamaria slowly began to realize that the world was so much bigger than she’d ever imagined. She’d spent her life in different cities, made her mark in any way she could, but she had never done it so permanently. Somehow, she always thought she would be returning to New York and it made her hesitate to truly live anywhere else. With no return date in sight, Kamaria built different lives in any place she could, watched as the rest of the world became acquainted with an agent of chaos such as herself. Her professionalism shocked others that had known her before, when she was just a teenager who liked to party. She was put together in a way no one had expected she knew how to be. Maybe that’s why they all trusted Kamaria with their secrets. Maybe that’s why they all looked so taken aback when she used it against them. Growing up didn’t have to mean you stopped playing games, it just meant the games changed and Kami was a quick learner. The games were different when you were no longer a teenager and even though she was still young, she was smart. It was why people trusted her even when she made it clear she had claws. She loved games and she loved winning, and one thing Kamaria discovered about herself was that she wasn’t just good at it in New York. She could do it anywhere.
part iii. excidium // destruction
What’s the point of running an empire without someone to rule by your side? Kamaria had heard the question a thousand times, and a thousand times she’d rolled her eyes. Winning was enough. Chaos was enough. It suited her. Only people who didn’t know how to be alone bothered to care about who they could share their life with. Kamaria didn’t return to Manhattan out of nostalgia, nor did she return because she wanted to right any wrongs. She came back out of obligation, mostly. A chance to run her own little syndicate of galleries under her father’s name, an opportunity to see a world she had said goodbye to so long ago. When she touched ground in New York for the first time in five years, Kamaria felt like she was returning to the closest thing she’d ever had to a kingdom, and she remembered what it meant to be an invisible queen, pulling strings no one even saw, tearing down those who didn’t know what was coming. She didn’t need the credit, just the satisfaction of watching the world crumble around her. That was enough.
Her own business dealings around the world had provided her with a solid reputation that offered her the chance to “turn a new leaf”, so to speak. People might not trust her back home, but they did admire her ambition. It was her connections that secured her spot in the world of exclusivity in Manhattan based on her own merit rather than her family’s; after all, the Kaplan family was known for never putting roots down and they had so many people wrapped around their fingers across the world that it would be an embarrassment to turn down the opportunity to do business with them. So she bought a place to live, got up for work in the mornings, socialized at every event and gala she was invited to. She accepted lines backstage on broken phone screens and downed spiked drinks, woke up in a stranger’s bathtub one morning and kicked out errant partygoers from her living room the next. No one ever thought she turned good, she just altered her motivations a bit. That was fine enough for Kamaria. She watched the way her old acquaintances battled it out on the ground, all desperate to keep their secrets safe, all trying to prove their worth. One wanted to be enough for Mommy and Daddy, one wanted to snag a wealthy spouse, one wanted to be Queen of the Upper East Side.
Kamaria dreamt of being something different.
To be something glorious, to be something fearsome—a neon demon, a girl against God, a killer queen with sharp claws and sharper teeth, always looking for something to sink her fangs into and never let go.
Maybe one day she would ask the question: How? It wouldn’t matter. Kamaria could look back on every moment of her life where she went too far or got too mean and she knew she could ask if a single moment in her life had been more impactful than another, if something had changed her more than anything else.
It didn’t matter.
She was born rotten.

If you are a fan of Spidey at all, this one is a must play. It’s a quirky little Spider-man game, but it has a great deal of character. Don’t worry though, because Venom can feed on just about anyone and drain health out of them. In addition, Venom gets around via jumping and climbing rather than the use of web-shooters, and his health constantly depletes slowly due to the suit feeding upon its host. Spider-man is faster and does less damager per shot, whereas Venom is a lot more powerful but is also slower. You can also upload and share your favorite Spider-Man wallpapers HD.

The Ultimate incarnation of the fan-favourite symbiote has a different backstory (being an experiment rather than an alien) but that aside the story is interesting, and the game plays very differently depending on which of the two characters you are playing. Tons of awesome Spider-Man wallpapers HD to download for free. That’s right, you get to play Venom, and that includes open free-roam after you beat the game. In Ultimate Spider-man your time is split between Peter/Spider-Man, and Eddie Brock/Venom. The thing that is most likely to sell a Spider-man fan on this game however, is the fact that you aren’t just playing Peter Parker and fighting villains. He even has Stan the Man Lee offering narration at the beginnings of each level Unfortunately, what he doesn't have are decent camera angles or a robust quality assurance inspection. This aesthetic does come off as a little silly at times (the ridiculous size of the spider that bites Peter to give him his powers comes to mind), but overall it’s very well done. Spider-Man has wall-crawling, web-slinging action, super-strength, and even his spidey-senses in this arcade-style adventure beat-em-up. It makes no attempt at all to look realistic, and the finished product is all the better for it. The first thing that sets it apart from most other Spider-man games, is it’s deliberately comic-book feel, with its cell shaded characters and environments. I played this on the Xbox when it came out back in 2005, and to this day it remains one of my all-time favourite Spider-man games.

:3 (As well as the regular Spider-Man since I'm not sure how to align the webbing without referencing the model). If someone who knows how to apply textures stumbles upon this picture, I'll probably finish the 2002 Wrestler Spider-Man. Play free online Spider-Man games, watch videos, explore characters & more on Marvel HQ. It's only recently I've come to appreciate Unlimited and 2099. Visit the official site for all things Spider-Man for kids and families. I remember the Captain Universe costume being my favorite one to use, the symbiote one a close second. Since I don't know how to replace the textures, these have not been tested in-game. the Ps1 and N64 version were absolutely ugly in comparison to the PC version. So, I borrowed these from The Textures Resource and made brand new, higher resolution textures based on those. Apparently you need Project 64 1.7? I'm not sure, but I don't think it'll be worth the work if it's not this easy to figure out and apply. Problem is I have no idea how to extract and apply textures from the Spider-Man game. Recently, I discovered that N64 emulators (with certain plug-ins) could replace textures with Higher Definition ones if they were available. :3Īnyway, one of the first video-games I ever played was the Spider-Man game for the PC.

Langblr Reactivation Challenge
Week 1
Day 2: Write a list of goals you have for your target languages. Make both long term and short term goals. An overall goal could be to have the ability to talk with native speakers with ease and a smaller goal would be to finally learn that difficult grammar point that's been plaguing you for ages. How will you achieve them?
Basque: my main target language
Weekly: I plan on sticking to 1 lesson a week from the book "The Basque language: A practical introduction" by Alan R. King. I'll stick to 1 lesson weekly because I bring my notebook with me to uni and do excercises during boring lectures and breaks I have in between (15-min breaks) and I don't even have to do anything at home. It's easier for me sticking to a habit like this.
Small habit: listen to a podcast 2-3x a week (it doesn't matter if I don't, because I listen to Basque songs a lot and on a daily basis anyway). These podcasts aren't to be listened only once because my level is still too low to understand. At this point I just get to understand more of the context of the podcast every time I listen to the same one.
In the next month (until 2023): I need to review all grammar I learned because I feel like I brushed over some parts a bit. I won't force myself to master that grammar but I need a reminder. Same goes for vocab, especially those fillers, words like "just, anyway" etc.
In 6 months: I want to be comfortable enough to go on Tandem app and talk to euskaldunak there. My goal until May-June is to become conversational, so that would be my test to check if I managed it.
Spanish: daily used language
Short-term goals: I don't have because I don't even sit to study anymore, I just pick up things by using it online all the time.
Small habits: I already do the comprehension excercises by listening to Real Madrid players speak Spanish, but I want to find some fun podcasts to listen to sometimes
1 thing on my wishlist: I want to read a book in Spanish, I have bought a middle grade book which I haven't yet had the courage to start because I had a bad experience at trying to read German books, but I know my Spanish is much better, I just kind of have this fear
Long-term goal: take the DELE C1 exam in autumn 2023/spring 2024 (I'm missing some of the basic vocabulary, even for A1, so I need to work on that)
German: I need to regain the level I had
I'm not excited about this because my German is school-taught and I finished school 2 years ago. Now I have a completely different language learning system and I don't know how to apply it to the language I had a broken system for studying. I want to get back to it, hopefully next year, but I still don't know how
Figure out which language to learn next
I won't force myself for this but Here's the list of languages I think I want to take up (from most excited about to somewhat excited/not sure at all):
Japanese
Arabic
Korean
Portuguese
Polish
Turkish
Russian
Keep in mind this list can change anytime, I'm kind of getting the idea of learning Finnish or Hungarian, so I might just randomly take up one of those. My brain is unpredictable but it's also better to listen to my guts than force myself to decide on a language. This is exactly how I took up Basque 😅

hi sorry I don't know if this has been asked/covered before, but I was wondering about more alien! god reader au headcanons?
In particular, I'm interested in how language would work/be translated. Words/sayings that are translated oddly or not quite right.
For example, there's a concept of "face" in Thai (my mother tongue) and I think also in other Asian countries. It's basically like your reputation or how people perceive/think of you. If you were to use in English it doesn't really make sense, ex. "I need to get better marks in school to save face for the family". Or ex. "Laura showed her true face when she snapped at her boyfriend yesterday."
This could apply for any culture really, even North America. I'm just curious as to your take on it :)
OOOH LINGUISTICS BEING FUNKY IS MY JAM OKAY LETS GET INTO IT
- some earth languages, like arabic and vietnamese, are incredibly tonal! which means a reader from any of those countries would often repeat the same phrase over and over again, but get frustrated when in mondstat (based on germanic languages) nobody understands the nuance between both sentences.
- a reader that speaks chinese will have an easy time adapting to liyue's style of writing (bc. based on the same place) BUT liyue's tiny character distinctions may LOOK like a chinese character and,,, not mean it. zhongli is trying to hide the shock on his face because you asked for a shoe sole instead of a steak strip.
- i pity the american that winds up in inazuma. they'll be on the shoguns watchlist before sundown. (this is as an american) the amount of meaning each word has in inazuma, and the history each word holds would befuddle a reader that's grown up around bastardized indigenous languages like cherokee and sioux.
- sumeru has the same etymological root as sumerian tablets, which makes me think the writing style will more resemble hieroglyphics/ mathematical symbols. not to be a nerd on main but maybe sumeru's sentences look like gallifreyan, and you have to take the whole sentence in instead of the sum of its parts. rip to any romance languages based on latin because none of that is helping you here.
- when reader deals with these things, they're well connected enough to have people help them, so here are my designated Language Helpers from each region
Mondstat would have you listen to Fischl's lengthy diatribes to understand the lengthy word structure of Mondstatian sentences. Much like German, Mondstatians often string smaller word roots together to make one word mean a cohesive topic.
Eula would help you with the (quintessentially English) metaphors and turns of phrase that might befuddle an outsider- or even just a commonfolk!
Liyue would have the adeptal lawyer Yanfei explain the ins and outs of Liyuen language (and how it can be used in your favor) because so much of law relies on language! She would make sure that the contractual and thorough nature of Liyuen cultural touchstones would be understood by anyone unfamiliar with the language. The language the land of contracts uses to make their contracts is treasured, and she would guide you through it.
Inazuma would have you guided by two people- Kamisato Ayaka, a native to the Kamisato Estate and all of its history, would personally guide you to all of the places Inazuman regional dialect originated from. She loves this land, and the people she sees, and she values the culture of Inazuma so deeply the two of you sit on the shores of Amakane Island and practice calligraphy of the most important Inazuman values- and maybe the Kamisato crest, too.
The second person to help in Inazuma would be Sangonomiya Kokomi, and she would whisper to you the secrets of a land long gone behind the roar of a waterfall. Something stirs in you when the names of old Greek mythological figures, and you wonder if Time/Kronos is a constant througout universes.

My One And Only - Chapter 8
Previous | Next
So this chapter is longer than the previous one and hOpefuLly my writing will get better with each new chapter. One can only hope. And I’m updating this daily cuz I wanna be caught up with all of my chapters so I don’t forget to post one by accident. But the daily updates will unfortunately stop after chapter 13, I guess. For now, enjoy! *totally not debating if I should post chapter 9* also Gabriel, no
Uncle Jagged: Nettie! I got everything ready. Wanna record a bonus track for my new album?
'Oh god'
—————————————————————
Marinette kept rereading the message to make sure she had read it correctly. The message never changed. "Oh Tikki what if my voice sounds horrible? Uncle Jagged will be disappointed and then he won't have me as his designer anymore! He'll probably tell everything to everyone, to Gabriel Agreste, Clara, Chloe's mother and to the whole public!"
"Calm down Marinette!" Tikki flew out the bag and hugged the bluenette's face. "I'm sure you'll do just fine!"
"Thanks Tikki" Marinette said hesitantly. She then approached the hotel doors and towards the elevators. She had felt the gaze of the receptionists and one of them had got up with the intention to talk to her, only to be dragged back down by the fellow receptionist, the one who Marinette talked to yesterday. The bluenette had taken full notice of this but chose to ignore it. She then reached Damian's hotel room and knocked on the door. She heard something metallic drop on the floor followed by a slightly muffled word. Marinette knew exactly what he said but she was confused. She then heard the same voice again though much clearer this time.
"You can come in, the door is unlocked"
~~~
Damian had just finished showering, he was half dressed when he got a message from 'Angel'. He had changed used this nickname as her contact name.
Angel: I got an hour and half till my meeting with Uncle J, you want me to come over?
Damian smiled. Honestly, if he could he would give all his time to her.
Me: Sure, come over whenever you want I don't mind
He was about to put his shirt on when he got an urge to practice with his katana, which he did. He made a mental note about getting dressed soon and he went to the case which his katana was located. He then practiced different stances as well as practicing different motions with the blade. He thought of the bluenette. When he first met her, she struck him as someone defenseless and vulnerable. But he now had the feeling she could take down someone twice her size. Though, that didn't stop him from feeling obligated to protect her. He had become so focused that when someone knocked he tensed. Not that much but enough to loose grip of his katana. The blade sunk into his skin and left quite a deep cut on his upper arm and on the right side of his chest, causing him to drop his katana.
"Scheiße!" He didn't react to the pain, it was the thought of Marinette walking in on this situation. 'Since when do I know German?' "You can come in, the door is unlocked" 'Damn it that's not what I meant!'
Marinette opened the unlocked door to see a shirtless Damian. She probably would've metaphorically died at that point if she didn't take notice to the whole situation. Not only was he shirtless, he was bleeding. 'How did-' she noticed the katana. 'Oh, makes sense now'. The bluenette then sprinted into action. She closed the door behind her, put her bag down quickly but still being mindful of Tikki and turned her attention to the now flustered Damian. She grabbed the arm that wasn't cut and carefully dragged him onto the sofa, she also looked at the katana on her way there while taking some mental notes. 'Looks clean, no rust or scratches that could contain bacteria and seems so have been cleaned thoroughly before use. Great! That makes my job easier'.
"What are you-"
"Hush Shaytan" Marinette interrupted while going to the bathroom, searching for one of those medkits. "Let me take care of you" she said while getting one of the disinfectants in the kit. Marinette then carefully rubbed the liquid into his wounds.
"It stings" he grumbled.
"Awww don't worry little Dami, it will stop stinging soon" Marinette said lightheartedly, as if she was comforting Manon.
"Tt I am not five" he grumbled again. He shifted his body so that Marinette could properly bandage his chest and right arm. After she was done, he flexed his arm. 'She did extremely well' "Thank you, Angel. You really are a life saver". He subconsciously smirked when he saw her face turn a shade of pink.
"Thanks, did I bandage it correctly? I hope I did, oh no what happens if it doesn't heal correctly? What happens if-" she suddenly stopped as Damian had pulled her in close to his chest.
"Honestly you did perfectly Habibti, there's no need to worry" he stroked his fingers through her deep blue hair as a way to calm her down further, but he himself enjoyed it. He knew how Marinette would always think that she's the one at fault and he came up with a way to calm her down. From the looks of it, it was working.
Marinette blushed when Damian had pulled her into his chest, even more so when she felt his fingers brush through her hair. It felt like it had genuine emotion with it, not only just to make her feel better. She took advantage of being close to his chest, his wounds, and used her powers outside the mask to let the wound heal faster. Now knowing that it would heal soon, she enjoyed his embrace, burying herself further into his muscular body. The she remembered something. "So what are we gonna do about your spilt blood?"
"You say that like I deal with this often" he said with a smug looking face. Marinette then had a 'I know you do' face. He jokingly sighed. "I shall clean it and before you object, I feel fine enough to do a simple task such as this." Her giggling brought a smile to his face. "Also have you worked out what Jagged Stone has in mind for you?"
"I'll tell you that after you tell me how you know German" Marinette shifted so that he could get up. "If I recall, you told me that you were fluent in French, Arabic, English and Spanish and that you were learning Japanese. I don't remember German ever coming up" she said in a jokingly serious tone.
"Actually I'm fluent in Japanese now" Damian murmured while getting something from one of his cases, 'Something to clean the blood I suppose' "I was taught an easy way to learn languages, I might have crossed German once before but if so I just forgot about it. Also, how do you know German?"
"Well if you have any interest in learning a new language you'd want to know the swear words, am I right?" She giggled.
"Fair point" he chuckled while allowing his blood to soap into something he brought, a tissue or towel perhaps. "Now, do you know what Jagged Stone's surprise is for you?"
"Yeah, he wants me to record a bonus track for his album"
Damian paused just as he had finished disinfecting his katana. "Wow, that's great Angel!"
"Yes I'm very grateful to Uncle Jagged for organizing all this but what if I sound horrible? I do want to do it for him really, I don't want to turn the offer down but I-"
"Angel, there is no need to worry. If you're not comfortable with it you can tell Jagged, he'll understand. But I'm sure you have a beautiful voice"
"You really think so?" Marinette murmured. Damian nodded. She gave him a thank you smile before saying, "So, what's this quick way of learning a language? I've got 30 minutes"
Damian chuckled. "Well the first thing you would want to know is..."
~~~
'Marinette Dupain-Cheng, the only one in class whose been able to stop herself from getting akumatized. She must be very strong, physically and mentally. My point was proven when she became Multimouse, wearing nearly every miraculous that I've ever heard or come across. Ladybug must trust her greatly. I must find a way to akumatize her'
Gabriel Agreste stood in his observatory after recently detransforming. 'She can control her emotions well but when she's angry, it's incredibly strong. This girl could be one of the strongest in Paris, she could be one that senses auras. I must find a way. I will use her to eliminate all of heroes. All I need is time'.
