MAG127, Remains To Be Seen: "[...] as we got closer I could see that it was a single tree that was burning. A gnarled and ancient elm, that sat removed from the rest of the forest. A small crowd surrounded the spectacle. One man, who I took to be a groundskeeper, stood closer than the others, with a lit torch in his hand. [...]
... All that I could get from him was a sense of… resignation, and the insistence that his master, who I took to be Albrecht, wanted the tree dead. I’m sure that he used that word, though. Not burned, not removed, or destroyed. Dead. I resolved to ask Albrecht about it when I saw him."
...and then we never heard from it again. This tree still confuses me!! I can't connect it conclusively to anything else, but there's such an emphasis placed on it that it feels like it has to be important!
The motif of a big gnarly tree being burned echoes the tree at Hilltop Road, so even though there are no spiders, something about it feels Webby - as does the way Fanshawe mentions it, says he wants to ask Albrecht about it, and then seems to completely forget about it...
...that's a very weak connection at best, when there aren't any other indications that the Web is involved with the Von Closens at that time and place. So what else could it be? Fire could indicate the Desolation, but that has the same problem of not being mentioned otherwise, plus just burning down one (1) tree doesn't really seem like its style to do, unless this specific tree means something;
Trees and fire are also reminiscent of Gertrude's protection circle from s1, though, again, that's Web & Desolation duking it out. The tree at HTR also seemed to be connected to Agnes' death in some way, she died when it was cut down. Maybe this tree is also protecting someone, but who? why? how? Albrecht? That makes no sense, at the very least unless "the Master" is referring to someone else, but that really just opens more questions than it answers!
Maybe the tree is meant to signify another 'rift' between worlds, and it links up to the vague implication that maybe the Von Closens seemed to be unable to get children in s1, but evidently had them later on. And maybe the bastard prince actually came through from another dimension as well.... However, that's still a very big leap to take just from one odd tree and two 'mysteries' that aren't really mysteries and didn't really need solving in the first place
I'd be curious to know if this was a plot hook for future episodes which never materialized into something more, or if I'm just missing something here. anyone else have a solid theory? @a-mag-a-day

Such a backstabber
Tumblr media
The general mahamatra asks al-haitham to uncover 'your web of lies', he accepts immediately. When he asks you what the symbol means he gets an unexpected answer
Tumblr media
Wc:990
He should be eating dinner and getting ready for sleeping right now but he is forced to sit through an 'emergency meeting' with the general mahamatra
" What might be the issue that is so important that it couldn't wait until morning?" The grip on the freshly brewed coffee was just strong enough to not snap it in half
Cyno doesn't blink nor does he get comfortable in the seat, if al-haitham didn't know it was serious before he was sure now.
The air grows thick until cyno spits some words out
" The third grand sage, YN, is highly likely involved in the usage of knowledge capsule, and possibly trafficking " his red eyes focus on the scribe
"Why do you feel inclined to accuse them of such a thing?" He already knew the reasons. It would be easier to believe a person consumed an ungodly quantity of knowledge capsules than a natural prodigy.
" Someone popped out of nowhere with seemingly all the knowledge of the world and you pretend to act as if it was normal?" It's obvious it's hard to believe
"And you should know by now, the third grand sage was originally a feral child that learned by imitation and their innate talent" he bit back with the rehearsed answer he had given to everyone before and would most likely keep giving to the public
" We both know that this is the PR version of the story" he leans over his knees, his eyes hardening " there seems to be some relationship between a dealer of knowledge capsules and the grand sage. I believe i don't need to get further into the conclusion"
"Weren't you the one to stand by the counter effects of repetitive usage? To me they don't seem to suffer from anything similar" that was one of the reasons he decided to look over your history, you not only knew a lot but seemed lucid enough to answer quick questions or riddles about the subject.
He looks over the window, leaning against the side of his green seat " and even then they seem to have a relationship with a low level trader."
" We both know very well that the akademia has been plagued by lies and scheming, the capsule scandal was only the spark that lit the fire. It would be better for the people of Sumeru if the new grand sages don't have interest that could harm them." Cyno keeps his ground, his tone unshakable and strong " you are one of the few people in the akademia that I can stand, al haitham, it would be a shame if I had to judge you for helping the grand sage hide their whereabouts"
" Well then " al-haitham throws his hands over his shoulders " I'm sure the  general mahamatra don't need my permission to start an investigation, do you?"
" We already intercepted a knowledge capsule dealer, it seems they set off to the desert, as of now they deny everything but i found this with him" he grabs a book from his bag, it's a very old thick book
Al-haitham stops drinking his coffee, letting it almost burn his tongue before he swallows " is it really that book? People have been searching for months now"
" 'symbology of the primordial language' it was found in his bag, we have to analyze the capsules but we believe they have these contents"
"I just need you to help me out" he drops the book and a page on the middle of the table, a somewhat simple symbol in the middle  " ask them what this is. It seems to be a kind of recognizement between  knowledge capsule dealers. If they genuinely don't know what it is I will drop the subject for now…"
Al-Haitham grabs the paper and analyzes it before sighing "fine. Just let me go to sleep."
The sun is shining obnoxiously for it to be only 6:00, Kaveh drank all the coffee in the house so he couldn't get a drop and he got a couple too few hours of sleep that night. It would be short to say he wasn't in his best mood.
Even your voice mixed up with kaveh to give a punch to his migraine
"Sooo~" you call from the table while eating some concoction that looks spicier than the last one. Even if he doesn't dislike certain seasonings he honestly thought you poisoned his food the first time he tried, turns out you just like food like that. " What kind of questions await me today?" Looking at him smugly
" Today is just one question"
Total silence fills the room "One?" You look at him as if you were about to laugh " what happened with fifty questions a day? Mm? Going soft on me?"
" Today is a special request"he pulls out the page that was neatly folded " what does this represent?"
Inching closer you turn around your head, trying to find an answer "I'm not sure" He watches, your blinking seems stable, calmly seated and not much moving around compared to before, no hands or clothing to hide your mouth. It seems you aren't lying?
" I'm sorry haitham, i truly don't know"
" We have a while, try for a bit more please"
" Can I offer you something to eat meanwhile? you always come here drinking coffee and calling it breakfast! It's disrespectful to food!" You stand up before he answers, already looking for a plate on the shelf behind him
" Some people are busy, you know? If anyt-" suddenly there is a big crack behind him, the same sound of breaking a plate, turning around he looks at you, eyes wide and mouth slightly open " great sage? Are you feeling bad?" Thinking you might have gotten dizzy or gotten low blood sugar he grabs your arm waiting for you to blackout
Before he can ask more questions you only say something in a very small voice, almost a whisper: I can never outrun it…

For a schemer, Annabel's schemes haven't been that successful.
After reading this web series a few times, I was starting to see a pattern. Things aren't really going in Annabel's favor and her favor wasn't any better before her death either. I'll start out with what we knew about her in her life. She was going through her third social season which was coming to a disappointing end simply because it was ending. Her breakdown tell us that much. She longed for a much freedom as she could get for as long as possible. Until she met Lenore but more specifically Leo, who I would assume plans to get her out of the situation which ultimately leads to both their deaths.
And now, their both in the limbo between the land of the Living and the Dead. And now the new plan…is the old plan. To get out with Lenore. Now that I think about it, Lenore really is this woman's world after all of this. Lenore is probably supposed to feel like her source of hope and without her there the act that she constantly puts up will be for nothing. I mean after basically killing her old self, shedding her role in society (the only thing Annabel has to feel safe until Lenore) as a woman to free Annabel. She exceeds her expectations exponentially. Lenore is what she could never be and it seems like that's why she loves her a lot.
But I digress, This plan of hers to be on opposing sides and pretend to be enemies while also setting her own group against each other never has seemed to go very well to going horribly bad. But I'll start with the opposing sides. The morning after the Maze put their plan in effect of the being enemies. When Lenore points out that no one in her trio manifested but still passed, Annabel makes a remark about her not following the assignment. This was supposed to further establish the gap between Annabel's team and Lenore's but to Anna's (and even Prospero's) surprise, Ada speaks up and admits that she's impressed by Lenore's group.
Tumblr media
This paired with that "ally ship" Ada tried to build with Lenore wasn't the best for Anna's plan either. Morella certainly wasn't making it easier for her either but Montressor took care of both of those.
Her next plan to have the Spectreless students lose didn't go as planned was directly because of Lenore which causes her scheme to have Duke eliminated quietly backfire because of Lenore's wish. This drives a hug wedge into their relationship. Moreover, if Duke manifests and gets out of the wall, it would get much worse for her scheme if they expose them in some way. This is where I saw a pattern. And lastly, the big plan to escape the Academy.
Let me start by saying this: Annabel doesn't know what the fuck she's getting herself into. Lenore has more valuable information than Annabel Lee has. And it's all because of the Raven. Remember when Lenore asked Anna what her plan was after her escape and she was like "I don't know, love. We'll figure it out." No the fuck you won't, sit down. Lenore knows they wouldn't be able to last 10 minutes out there because they would be devoured. Which she hasn't said to her but still calls her out on how foolish that mindset is for her.
Tumblr media
I just wanted to point out that all the effort that Anna's putting into this isn't going that well at all but if anyone has a conclusion that they can put together eloquently, I'd be glad to read it because I'm tired.
(Also, I'm not saying that she has to win all the time but what I am saying is she needs a different approach to planning. It has to involve Lenore but this divorce arc is going to make it a lot harder.)

V's Yandere Alphabet
Synopsis/Author's Note: I was planning to make one of these for all the boys but this took me 6 months and I lost steam fast so this might be the only one you guys get.
The yandere alphabet template I am using was made by no gender bee on tumblr.
P.S. It took me until posting this that this is not the full alphabet, lol.
Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction for personal entertainment. If you are reading this, please understand that drawing/writing/reading/imagining things of this nature does NOT equate to desiring or supporting real-world assault.
Abuse = Could they ever hurt you physically or mentally? What would be the reason?
Physically? No. Mentally, kind of. He would not do it with the intent of causing harm, but some of V’s mental manipulation can hurt. He’ll pull at your heartstrings, saddle you with guilt, and talk in circles to get you to comply with his wishes all while using flowery language to mask the manipulative web he is weaving.
A big one, and the most common form of mental strain he gives you, is when he is desperate for attention and at the end of his rope. He will plead for it, reminding you that neither of you knows how long he has left to live and that he only wants to spend it with you. He does this to show you how much you mean to him, but he is also aware that he is inciting guilt in you. He does not realize how deeply and long it can affect you though until you tell/show him.
Both = You are a Yandere too, what’s their reaction?
V is intrigued and finds it amusing at first. His obsessive tendencies take longer to form, and he also does not believe he will live long so he sees your invasive and manipulative actions as entertaining with no fear of long-term repercussions. Even if you think you are being sneaky, he sees everything you are doing and he enjoys watching your reactions as he either plays along with your schemes or effortlessly evades them.
But once he finds himself falling for you in return, he gets rather depressed. He sees how desperately you want him, yet he knows, no matter how much he wants you as well, that all of your attempts to show your love will be in vain. He’ll try to pull away from you, but the more you chase, the more he wants you.
Then he finds out a way to live longer and his restraints are finally broken. You and he revel in your shared obsession, happily lavishing each other with love and attention. He sees your quirks and views them as romantic gestures. He finds out you have been stealing his things? How it warms his heart to know you want him close at all times even when home alone. Why don’t we move in together darling to save you the trouble? You’ve cancelled his plans with others behind his back? Well, why didn’t you tell him you wanted a night alone? He would love nothing more. You’ve killed a supposed love rival? Snuffing out another's life just because they threatened to take his love, though not necessary as you already have his heart, is such a beautiful display of adoration that he just has to give you a reward~
Crazy = How easy do they enter crazy mode? How do they act when they are in it?
It takes a lot for this man to snap. He is the essence of calm and collected, able to keep his composure in circumstances where most would panic and/or become angry. You could rage at him before walking out the door claiming you will never return, and though he will put up a bit of a fight, he knows deep down that you are just lashing out. After you have time to calm down you will be back in his arms soon enough. Whether by your own means or his, that was yet to be seen. This man could be in the middle of getting arrested and he would comply because he knows that this is not the end. He could easily escape prison and find his way back to you. The only true end is death, and that is what will cause him to snap.
Not his own death per se as that mental break will be directed and contained to himself. If his plan for extended life starts failing, he will fight tooth and nail to survive while rushing through the stages of grief. The most this will affect you is that he will disappear for a while as he tries to find a solution before returning when he realizes there is no hope for him and begs you to stay with him until his last breath.
The true snapping point would be a result of your life almost being lost, particularly if you try to take your own. Knowing or, worse, catching you trying to end your life flips a switch in him. He already had a lot of stress from trying to preserve his own life, but when he realizes that he could lose the primary reason he fought so hard to live all of that effort, panic, and stress gets funneled into caring for you. Now that he perceives a proverbial ticking clock for both of your lives, he will no longer allow a single second to go by without you. He will lock you up in his home and become your caretaker, tying you up so you can’t hurt yourself and taking care of all of your needs himself like feeding you and bathing you. You are his everything, and he will not let a second of both of your possibly short lives not be spent together. (see K for Kidnapped for more details)
Difference = When can you notice different behaviour in them?
At first V’s yandere tendencies were subdued and easily hidden. For the first couple months of knowing you he was under the belief that he was not long for this world. His body was actively deteriorating and soon he would have to return to Vergil.
But then he found a way that he could continue living as his own person. Maybe through killing and absorbing Urizen’s life force rather than merging with it or by somehow stealing it from others. Either way, there was a chance for him to survive and pursue a relationship with you. That is when he changed and that is when you start noticing his obsession with you.
He won't totally indulge in his attraction to you until he has proof that this lead is viable, but he will suddenly become more affectionate. Where he once kept any compliments and flirtatious remarks shrouded in flowery language so that you could not quite tell if he meant it that way became more direct and regular. The few feet he always put between you two was shorted as much as you would allow.
When he does gain evidence that his plan for a longer life is working, all restraints are off. He immediately goes to you and confesses his love. He may even tell you right then his true origins, why they resulted in him being distant at first, and how now that he has a long life ahead of him he is excited to spend it with you.
Enjoy = Do they enjoy what they’re doing to you, your life and the people around you? Do they show it?
V does worry about how some of his actions affect you. He is a bit of a philosopher type, often getting lost in thoughts or conversations about the deeper meanings and effects things have on people and the world as a whole. He is also introspective so he will occasionally worry himself over what he is doing. This line of thought doesn’t only trigger when you show hints of discomfort or hesitation. You could be perfectly happy, but he is privy to the manipulation and trickery of his that you are falling for. He considers and speculates on how his actions could warp your mind in the long run. And when he pictures the worst-case scenario, he might just guilt himself into admitting to, and apologizing for, a recent misconception he gave you.
He did not say those things with malicious intent, he just wanted to protect you from the cruel world and keep you loving him.
Force = Are they willing to force you into loving them? How will they do it?
If you are a demon, to any extent, V will force you into a contract with him, assuming he is unsuccessful in his initial attempt at convincing you to join willingly. Depending on your battle prowess he will even call you to (relatively easy) fights along with his other familiars. Seeing you in battle is just as beautiful as seeing you dance to him so he will gladly do it as long as the risk of permanent harm is practically nonexistent. No matter how skilled you are in combat though, your primary duty as one of his demons is as a companion. With you being bound to him he can call you to him whenever he wishes to be with you, which is most of the time. He’ll try to offer you space and as much free will as he can, but the more obsessed he becomes the more he will abuse this power over you. One thing to note though is that he will not force you into romantic or sexual acts, even if he technically could through your contract. No matter how much he desired you, he would never hurt you in that way.
Alternatively, say you were a human. He would force you, again assuming you don’t fall for his flowery words, to take on a demon familiar. Not just any demon though. Specifically, he wants you to bond with one of his familiars. If you want more than that that is your prerogative, the more safety you have and empowerment you feel is only a boon, but being partially bonded to one of his familiars is his requirement. He tells you that he wants to keep you safe by giving you access to one, or more, of his demons for protection, and this is true. Though V is their primary master, V will willingly put himself at a disadvantage in battle by allowing you to call one of his familiars for protection. And if you don’t call them V will send them to you. He also advertises the practical benefits of having creatures at your beck and call. One aspect that he does not fully disclose though is how being bonded to a demon under his command also acts as a tracking device for when you try to run. (See H for Hide for more details.)
Gross = What is something they think is really romantic/sweet but is actually horrifying?
He writes letters and notes to you using his blood as ink. Sometimes it is just his signature coloured burgundy, and other times you find whole notes or poems scrawled in thin, inconsistently faded cursive which he delivers to your home or work with a bandaged arm.
He already puts his heart and soul into these letters. To him, offering part of his body with them shows you his complete devotion.
Hide = How easy is it to hide from them?
Depends on if he has bound you to one of his familiars yet.
First, let's assume he hasn't. Then, honestly, it’s pretty easy as he is but one man with not a lot of connections. He can send out his familiars to scan the area for you, but they can not go too far from V. That is only if he works alone though because the few connections he does have are with people who hunt down living creatures as their profession. Sure, hunting a demon is not quite the same as hunting a person down and his friends will initially question why you would run off, but V just has to string together a tail of how you are being influenced by a denizen of hell and that they must find you before it is too late. Sure enough, he will convince the morally just crew of demon hunters to find his love and now half a dozen people are calling in favours and travelling the country looking for you. And when they do find you, even if you try to tell them that you ran away from V willingly, V’s story has already cemented itself in their brains so they will drag you back anyway. A caveat to this plan is that the crew will get more and more suspicious if you run away multiple times and V keeps asking them for their help.
One of the benefits of binding you to one of his demons is that he won't have to risk growing doubt within his friends. With you bound to one of his demons (see F for Force for more details), no matter where in the world you run V can track your location by getting his familiar to appear around you, scan the area to gather information, and relay it to him. And when he is close enough, the familiar can just pin you down and call out like a siren so V can easily find you.
Improve = Will they be willing to recover from this psychotic state for their lover?
Working off of E for Enjoy, V can find the conviction to be better for you. The problem is that he does not really know how to be better. He has only existed as his own entity for a relatively short time and has no experience with having a healthy relationship. He has only ever had you and the, sometimes maddening, urges to be with you. But because of his overwhelming love for you and the fear that his actions risk harming you, he will work towards being better.
He has to look to healthier relationships, like Nero and Kyrie’s and what little memories of Sparda and Eva’s he retains from Vergil, to understand what they look like and how he himself is failing. And if he can’t make the headway he wishes, being unable to stop himself from telling you subtle lies and trying to monopolize your attention, he will talk to someone about his feelings and urges. He understands that he does not yet really understand how to be human and is not above asking for aid in learning, for his own well-being yes, but mostly for yours.
Justification = Why are they acting like that? When did it start?
Upon being created, V knew that he did not have long to live. Soon he would join with Urizen and become Vergil once more. When he first started to fall for you, he knew it would not last due to his minuscule lifespan so would not pursue a romantic relationship. He could not, however, stay away from you. You were like a work of art, so utterly perfect that it was a miracle you even existed in such a cold and cruel world. He tried to accept the brief moments of connection you shared as enough to have him return to Vergil without regrets, but it wasn't enough. It would never be enough.
His body was failing though, crumbling away. Perhaps when he becomes whole again Vergil will be able to be with you. But that would not be the same for you or V, and he knew that.
And then, he found a way to continue living as his own person (See D for Difference for more context). Now he had a chance to have a life with you. But always lurking in the back of his mind is the fear that this means of sustaining his body and life will fail. He does not know when he will disappear or how quickly it could take him. This is why he needs to always be with you. He doesn’t know how much time he has left and he wants to spend as much of it with you as he can. You understand, don’t you darling?
Kidnap = Are they willing to kidnap you? If so how will they do it, for how long will they keep you away and where?
He will kidnap you if you make the drastic decision to try to end your own life (see C for Crazy for more context). He has given you the freedom to do what you want, far more than most yanderes would, despite the dangers in the world because he trusted you and himself to keep you safe. But now that even you are a danger to yourself, that shattered any trust V had.
When he finds out what you were trying to do, whether it be through catching you in the act or finding out in the aftermath of a failed attempt, he will bring you to his home. He will tell you, and anyone else privy to your attempt, that he wanted to give you a safe place where you can be monitored, rest, and offer an ear to which you can discuss your feelings and thoughts without judgment. And with him being your partner, if other people knew of your attempt, they would trust him to watch over you and stop you from trying this again. And that was exactly what he would do.
So you spend the night with V in his home where he refuses to leave your side for more than a minute at a time. It was understandable though, right? He was just shaken from what you tried to do. But when you woke up you found your wrists belted together, as were your ankles, and were chained to the bed’s headboard and one of the bed’s end legs respectively.
“My love, you are awake.” V greets as he enters the room, a bowl of oatmeal in his hand. “How wonderful it is to see your beautiful eyes finally open.” You can ask him what is going on, but no matter if you question him in fear, anger, or confusion, he will smile sympathetically as he helps you sit up. “I know this may be a bit frightening my dear, but this is all for your safety. You have somehow come to the heartbreaking and erroneous belief that you should not live and have become a danger to yourself because of it. But worry not, for I love you unconditionally and will care for you in your stead. Now, open up~” He coos as he holds out a spoonful of oatmeal.
V keeps you bound for as long as it takes for him to trust you not to attack him. Still, whenever he leaves the house he chains you to the bed to make sure you don’t try anything. Soon enough he stops going out, instead spending every waking moment coddling you. He feeds you by hand, dresses you, bathes you, and loves you through any bout of emotions, be they positive or negative. You don’t get to step foot outside until after you are knocked out by drugs and discreetly transferred to a new home out in some forest. Once there he will be willing to take you on walks, if you can prove you can behave. Even if you do try to escape though, the forest is enchanted so any human without a demon guide will be lost to endlessly loop through the same areas.
After years of living like this and proving that you don’t intend to leave him or harm yourself, you may just be lucky enough to find out how V was able to keep you locked up and disappear without anyone coming to look for you. You see, your friends and family were devastated when they heard from V that you had killed yourself by running off into a demon nest and letting yourself be eaten. And then it was unfortunate but unsurprising when V, now without the love of his life, spiraled into depression, became a recluse, moved away from the city where he and his love spent their time together, and soon after joined you in the afterlife.
“What a tragic tale, isn’t it dear?” He asks you with a proud smile on his face as he feeds you your lunch.
Love me = How will they make you say “I love you”?
He has no intention of forcing the words out of you. Instead, he sees your love in your actions so he does not need to hear the words themselves. If anything, if you were to say ‘I love you’ without complete sincerity he would see it as the complete opposite. You must be upset and/or unhappy in some way. Though he does not want to pry, if you keep forcing words of affection out it will eat away at him until you pleads for you to stop and instead tell him what it is that is driving you to hurt him like this.
Moving on = If you die or escape, will they be able to move on? How easy it’ll be for them?
You are his light, his world, and the number one reason that he fought to stay alive. If you were to leave him, he would be devastated. With you gone so is his will to live, and so he will follow you into the beyond. However, one deciding factor for how he will come to his end is why you met yours. If it was some unforeseen tragedy then he would chase after you into the next world immediately. But if your death was in any way his doing, he would drag out his death. Whether it be through starvation or letting his body deteriorate, whichever was more painful and a fitter punishment for the sins he has committed.
Alternatively, if you were to escape and he could not find you, his will would slowly drain. He would spend more time and energy looking for you and despairing over not being able to find you, he would neglect what he needs to do to stay alive. Slowly his failing body would wither away or, if the option is still available, he may just make a last-ditch effort to become whole again. He knows that death would be an easier option than reforming, but his lingering feelings may unconsciously drive Vergil to keep looking for you and you wouldn’t hide from Vergil, right? Knowing you were at least alive would give V’s broken heart and soul some levity while it rotted away somewhere inside Vergil.
Non-stop = How clingy will they be when you’re in a relationship? How possessive are they? And how much free space do they give you?
V will give you a great deal more space than most yandere’s. He is fine with you spending time with others, whether he is present or not. He will even allow you to go on multiple-day-long trips, like road trips or vacations, with others. Seeing you happy and hearing you excitedly recount your outings was a joy in it of itself for him. Hearing you talk with exuberance and seeing your radiant smile as you describe the event you attended, the activity you did, and the conversations you had was just enough to make missing you worth it. It also helps that he is an introvert so is more than okay with spending some time for himself.
There is a limit to this though. If you have a job or attend school then he can get by with having you in the morning and evening. He will encourage you and praise you for your hard work before and after each day while enjoying having you all to himself. But if, on top of this, you are going out with friends two or three days a week then he’ll get antsy. He won’t get in the way, but he will get a bit needy and clingy, doing things like wanting to walk you to and from places just to spend more time with you and inviting you on more dates and activities to offset how much you go out with others.
But if others try to take up more of your time than that, V will become a lot more proactive. Suddenly you start ‘forgetting’ your phone in the other room all the time, meaning you miss calls and texts. Your calendar and alarms start messing up more, giving you incorrect times and dates causing you to miss events. V seemingly becomes more worried about your well-being. Do you have a bit of a cough? Feeling warmer than usual? A bit of a headache? Well, then it is best if you stay home. Even if it seems small now, exserting yourself by going out could just make things worse. Besides, the weather report said it might rain. So just rest at home today, V will be there to care for you.
Other = Someone else speaks or flirts with you, how will they react?
V is usually very confident and trusting of you to not betray him so does not mind when others speak to you. He doesn’t blame the person either because you are a truly fascinating person that V can’t get enough of, so others wanting to get to know you is only logical. Other’s flirting with you is usually a similar story, as he trusted you implicitly. But that does not mean he is always complicit. If you or the person give him a reason to worry, such as you seemingly reciprocating that flirtation or the person overstepping boundaries, then V will act.
It won’t be a full-on assault, physically or verbally, it will be a subtle, insidious poison that he seeps into the bothersome person. Through his words he will gracefully belittle and insult the person while showcasing his superior knowledge and sharp wit. Most of his comments don’t even immodestly register as insults, instead, they will weigh the person down bit by bit until their confidence is but dust in the wind and they realize that they have no chance in besting V in his control over your heart.
Present = What presents do they usually give you? What’s the worst and best gift you got from them?
V is a classic, artistic romantic, so expect roses and poetry, sometimes simply a pre-written piece that reminds him of you and other times it is a personal poem written by him. He can also take this to the extreme though (See G for Gross). The both best and worst thing he has given you, depending on your perspective, is having you make a contract with one or multiple of his demons (See F for Force for more detail).
Risk = How risky will they be with getting rid of rivals?
V has no intention of killing anyone. He loves you and, though you may not see it now, he knows you love him too. But if he really feels the need to dispose of someone, he has to be careful. Not so much because he fears the police or the friends and family of the victim. They could easily be tricked and manipulated into cooperating. It was his own family and friends that posed a problem. Dante, Nero, Kyrie, they would never understand. They don’t understand how deep his love is for you. If they found out he killed someone to protect his relationship with you, they would try to intervene or, worst of all, try to get you away from him. V can’t risk that.
So he carefully plans out his assassination. He can’t use his familiars because there is a chance that as soon as the police/family realize the murder was done by a demon they may call Lady or Dante’s businesses for help and they can spot Griffon, Shadow, and Nightmare’s work easily. And a physical altercation, even with the aid of weapons, would cause too much of a scene. So instead, V will kill with discreet methods, such as poison, or a disposable method, such as forming a contract with a demon, sending them out on their elimination mission, and then killing the new demon familiar so it could not be traced back to V.
Sweet = Even when they’re Yandere they can be sweet. What’s their sweet Yandere side?
You are his world, his everything, and he will tell you that often. Every day he tells you and shows you how much he appreciates you and all you do, for him and others. Being able to wake up beside you, spend time with you, and hold you at night is a blessing that he will always cherish, no matter how long you are together.
Type = What type of Yandere are they?
Going off of the Yandere Fandom Wiki’s list, V would mostly be a Manipulative Yandere (Focuses on working a series of situations to prevent losing their love.) with a bit of a Submissive Yandere (Only in love with one specific person and will carry out any task asked of them.).
V has a way with words and with his ability to stay calm and collected no matter the intricate lies he is weaving, he will subtly manipulate you into things like spending more time with him and fending off anyone who seriously threatens your relationship (See O for Other for more details). He won’t just have you wrapped around his finger, as he will also make others question themselves or change their mind through his poetic, complex, cryptic wording. This can range from telling your family and friends that they should not make you go to some even, claiming things like how tired and stressed you are when in reality he just wants more time alone with you, to even beneficial things like convincing your teachers or boss to treat you better because you are such an amazing student/worker.
There is also little he wouldn’t do for you. He will of course do small things if you ask like taking you to and from appointments no matter the ungodly hour it is happening and taking you on dates to all the places you are interested in. But he will do so much more if only you ask it of him. For example, if you come to him for help, telling him about some person or group that is hurting you somehow, either directly or through association, and ask him to get rid of them, he will.
Unsure = How much trust do they have in you? What happens if you break it?
V trusts you a great deal, more than most yandere. Even when you make small mistakes he will quickly forgive you and assure you that he understands that you are doing your best and don’t truly mean any harm. If you do something drastic though, that is different. There is what will happen if you try to hurt yourself (See K for Kidnapping), but if you do something like cheat on him he will be devastated. He will blame himself for the most part, assuming he has failed to provide you with the love and affection you desire and is determined to be better. He will follow you without being too pushy, not quite a stalker but he will reappear in your life every couple of weeks to try to win your heart back. And between each meeting, he would work on improving himself in any way he thinks he is failing you, from physical to social to financial. At times he may even consider leaving you be, letting you go free, but he can’t help but be drawn to you. In the end, he would rather give up on life rather than give up on you.
Welcome = Let’s say they’re Yandere for you but you never had your first meeting… How do they initiate it?
If you two have not officially met but you have caught V’s eye, he will avoid approaching you due to the belief that he will return to Vergil soon. He does not wish to hurt you by charming you and then disappearing, though that does have a romantic air to it. So perhaps he will allow himself to be seen once or twice if the situation requires. For example, if you are attacked by demons he will jump in to save you, maybe take a moment to let his mysterious and alluring aura seep in before disappearing like a masked hero, never truly known but leaving a sense of mysticism. At least this way, when the being known as V does disappear from this world, he will live on in you to a small extent.
If/when he knows that he can prolong his life, he will search for you right away. He’ll want to keep up his dark, mysterious, romantic aura as much as possible to make a good impression. This includes not giving you all the answers right away, slipping into the shadows and reappearing for the first few meets, and not letting you meet the blabbermouth Griffon or the horrific Nightmare, at least not at first. Shadow you may meet because he trusts her to not ruin the moment and may even add to his allure as he has a powerful jungle cat at his whim.
He has read countless poems and stories of romance, and he will use that to his advantage to make your introduction to him as perfect as possible.
Zealous = If everything fails, will they be able to kill their partner? For the most part, no. Even if you fight, run, reject, and abandon him over and over he will never be pushed to kill you. The only circumstance in which he would take your life is if you have been irreparably damaged, physically or mentally. If, because of a demon attack, the cruelty of the world infecting you with an incurable disease, or you have lost your mind, if your life is nothing but suffering, he will mercy kill you. And he would follow you soon after, to be able to hold you in the afterlife and watch you be free of this pain.

A Timeline of Events in the Artemis Fowl Series
Tumblr media
If anyone's interested, I did do an actual analysis for where I pulled some of these dates from. But because I cannot type succinctly to save my life, it's 5,000 words long, so that's below the cut. I also put the timeline there again, but in three separate images, so hopefully they load well enough to be fully legible if the above isn't.
A thousand thanks to @sadbitchapologist and @zahnie for their help and advice with this, despite neither of them having any more than the barest interest in the series and therefore having no clue what I was on about. Thanks also to @orangerosebush for fielding completely out-of-the-blue questions about the French school system, so I didn't have to attempt to navigate web search results to figure out what mandatory gym classes were like for the sole purpose of plotting Luc's birthday on here.
An Analysis of the Timelines in the Artemis Fowl Series
A Brief Introduction
The Artemis Fowl series is made up of eight books covering a range of years and events. I wanted to see how accurate the timelines present in the books were, as well as try and plot out some other details implied in the novels but not explicitly stated, to have a better understanding of the overall world-building. To that end, I went through the series and made the above timeline. I colour-coded it based on the relevance of the specific items to certain categories, namely Humans, Fairies, Villains, and the Series itself. This does mean that some things could have fit into multiple categories. For instance, you will see some items involving Opal categorized as Fairy-Specific (such as her college years, as those are fairly neutral to the main plot or her villainy), Villain-Specific (such as her setting up her emergency fund, as that is mostly related to her schemes as opposed to relevant to her existence as a fairy, or part of the main plot of the series), and Plot-Specific (such as her opening the Berserker Gate, the primary plot point for the final book).
Before we really delve into things though, we should establish the baseline assumptions I was working with. Firstly, I am only using the original series. I have not used anything written in The Fowl Twins trilogy, given that those books seem to ret-con a considerable amount of the original information, and that is far too many headaches to give myself. Any supplemental series information, such as the short stories found in The Artemis Fowl Files, or anything from interviews is also not included. The premise here is: using just the original books, what is the event timeline of the world? The second thing we need to establish is that I am using the North American releases of the novels. I did make notes on where each bit of information comes from, but there isn’t really a citation style for this kind of thing, so I’m not sure how relevant that is. The third assumption is that the first book takes place the year it was originally published. According to my copy, the original publication was 2001, with the first American paperback edition coming out in 2002, and the first mass market paperback being released in 2003. This means our starting point is in 2001.
For sake of clarity, this analysis will start with setting the dates of the books and continue on from there.
The Basics of The Books
With that out of the way, let’s talk about the first book, Artemis Fowl (AF). It is actually not until the very end of the book that we get a solid answer for when it takes place. It’s only in the last few pages of the novel that Angeline Fowl leaves her attic room after all the plot points are tied up and announces that it is Christmas Day. This might be cause for concern – Angeline had not previously been established as a particularly reliable narrator – but given that we are asked to believe that Holly’s ‘feel better’ mood booster worked, and that neither Butler nor Artemis balk at or question the pronouncement that is Christmas Day, we’ll accept that it’s true and move on. This means that, with Butler’s earlier announcement that he was stuck doing four months of stakeout, we can say with a fair amount of certainty that Artemis obtained and translated the Fairy Book in September 2001, and managed to capture a fairy in December of the same year.
Moving on to Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident (TAI), we are given a decent chunk of information, albeit spread out a bit. The first is the announcement that the ransom drop for Artemis Fowl I is to be held on the fourteenth. The fourteenth of what, you might ask? Well, we are told that Artemis is currently thirteen years old. Clearly, things are past September 1, 2002 (we know Artemis’s birthday is September 1 based on information in both the fifth and seventh books). We are also told that Luc Carrere has been trading with the goblins for six months, starting in July. That puts us in either December or January, but we can narrow it down further since Artemis gives us another helpful clue. He mentions they are not expecting to see the dawn while attempting to rescue his father in the Arctic. There are only a few latitudes on Earth where polar night (of any type) occurs, and at Murmansk, polar twilight occurs between December 10 – January 2. Combining all of this, we learn that TAI takes place December 14, 2002, give or take a few days to either side.
This can be corroborated by information in Book 3, Artemis Fowl: The Eternity Code (TEC). After Holly heals Artemis Senior, we are told that it takes over two months for him to wake up. Since we are specifically told two months, as opposed to two and a half or three, we can conclude that the events of TEC take place in March 2003. Mulch gives us some information that confirms this. He was living in LA “less than four months ago,” and since he was conscripted to help with the events of TAI in December, a March plotline fits the bill. We are given further confirmation as well: Spiro mentions that Artemis will be fourteen in six months. A specific date for Artemis & Co.’s attack on Spiro’s Needle can be pulled from the throw-away line that Pex and Chips are “burying” Mulch on the full moon. A quick web search tells us that the full moon in March of 2003 takes place on March 14, and the rest of the events in the novel take place roughly two days to either side of that.
In Artemis Fowl: The Opal Deception (TOD), the fourth book in the series, we are given several very clear indications of when the events take place. Firstly, Artemis is contemplating that at fourteen years and three months old, he is the youngest person to successfully obtain The Fairy Thief. Based on previously noted details that his birthday is in September, the events of TOD must take place in December of 2003. Additionally, we are told that things are the middle of winter and Opal has been in a coma for eleven months and counting as of the end of TAI, another December plot.
Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony (TLC) requires the most math and interpretation so far to figure out when it takes place. We know Artemis is still fourteen, so the main events clearly happen sometime between January 2004 and September 2004. Beyond that, we are using a fair amount of context clues. Artemis and Butler have evidently been traveling for four months looking for demons, so we are dealing with events in at least May. But that still leaves us several summertime months to work with, so to establish a timeline here, we will need to look forward a bit. In the sixth book, Artemis Fowl: The Time Paradox (TTP), it’s noted that Artemis is not yet fifteen, and has, on multiple occasions, spent the full moon in the study. Ergo, he’s spent at least a few months back from Hybras. If he has been back for two months and not yet turned fifteen, he would have had to have returned by July at the latest, and since he returns almost three years later than he leaves, we are looking at him returning in either May or June. This would have him disappearing to Hybras – and by extension, dealing with the earlier events in the book – in June, July, or August. After his conversation with Minerva, he notes to Butler that they “are planning a June wedding,” which wouldn’t make sense to say if they were currently in the month of June. From all of this, we can extrapolate that the first three-quarters of TLC take place in late July or early August 2004, with the triumphant return of our intrepid heroes occurring in June 2007.
As previously stated, TTP mentions that Artemis is still not fifteen, but is nearly there. He has also been home again for at least two months. This would put the events of the sixth book in August 2007. At least, the events set in the current time period. TTP does bring back time travel, and with it some problems. We are told that Artemis and Holly jump back nearly eight years to Artemis being ten and trying to fund searches for his missing father. This would put the events of the past in early 2000. However, other details presented regarding Artemis Senior’s disappearance, which we will discuss later, make that impossible. Artemis also admits, in TEC, that he was eleven when his father disappeared, not ten. If we take a bit of creative license with our interpretations and base the time-jump to the past on other presented information as opposed to the dates given in TTP, we can say that Holly and Artemis instead return to early 2001. This lines up with further details, such as the sinking of the Fowl Star (as calculated a few paragraphs down in this analysis) occurring in December of 2000, and the textual confirmation in TTP that it’s barely two months past that sinking when Artemis brokers the deal(s) regarding the silky sifaka lemur. Since, at the end of the day, the time jump impacts very little in the grand scheme of things, and the year 2001 actually fits in better with other textual evidence and events, that’s what I’m going with for this timeline.
The seventh book, Artemis Fowl: The Atlantis Complex (TAC) gives us a very helpful base point! It takes place on Artemis’s fifteenth birthday, September 1. From our previous results on setting dates for book events, that would be September 1, 2007. The sections in which Butler and Juliet are fighting mesmerized wrestling fans and meeting up with Mulch are noted in the novel as happening “the day before,” which would fall on August 31, 2007.
Artemis Fowl: The Last Guardian (TLG), the eighth and final book in the series, creates some problems. If we assume that Artemis starts receiving treatment for his Atlantis Complex immediately after diagnosis in TAC¸ that would put him receiving treatment in September 2007. We are told he is certified as cured after six months. Yet we are also told that the rest of the events of the book take place in the week or so leading up to the Christmas holidays. Everything so far has said that the Artemis Fowl series follows the current calendar, in which case there is no way that six months can fit between September 1, 2007 and December 25, 2007. However, the only reference to Christmas is in two lines noting that the Fowl parents were planning on holidaying with their children on a foreign beach. If we simply say that six months have passed, and they are instead planning on spending the Irish school system’s spring holidays in the French Riviera, everything else lines up much better. So that’s what I’ve done. This would also put the resurrection of Artemis, after the events of the book and a further six months have passed, at roughly September of 2008. There is a pleasing symmetry to Artemis being born and then re-born in September, though if you want to get really technical and say the events of TLG take place during the 2008 March full moon as Opal claims (as noted in another web search as March 28), a six-month wait time for the clone to grow would put the resurrection in October. Still, there is something to be said for having a boy’s ghost haunting a clone of himself close to All Hallows. Since it’s the last plot point of the series, you can choose which you’d like; it doesn’t have to lead to anything else after it.
Let’s Talk Timelines: The Beginning of the Line to The End of The 19th Century
Now that we have our baseline book time periods established, we can get into the math used to determine some of the events in the timeline above. Several events are easy; we are given specific dates for them. Turnball Root meets Leonor in 1938, Juliet wins the Miss Sugar Beet Fair beauty contest in 1999. Other things are based on some basic math, such as Artemis claiming his parents got married fourteen years prior to AF¸ putting that event in 1987.
The majority of the items on the above timeline, however, do take some mathematics, extrapolation, and interpretation to plot out. To try and keep everything organized, we’ll start at the far left of the timeline, and work our way forwards, looking at events oldest-to-newest to explain why they are where they are on the graph. I won’t be getting too in-depth on everything in the graph, since I’m not sure how relevant the notes on the very minor side characters such as Carla Frazetti are, but I’ll at least try to touch on some of the more relevant points.
To start with, the Battle of Taillte was noted in the 2000’s as being ten thousand years ago, putting that at 8000 BCE. Similarly, the last dome breach at Atlantis was apparently eight thousand years ago in the 2000’s, so that would be 6000 BCE. Troll sideshows were legal in the early middle ages, which implies they were not legal after that. A quick web search says the early middle ages ended around 1000. The first crusades were in 1096-1099, and as those crusades are the start point of the Butler-Fowl working relationship, a point for noting that comes next on the graph.
From there, we get into more modern – relatively speaking – events. Briar Cudgeon and Julius Root are noted as attending the LEP Academy together and being raised in the same tunnel, as well as having about 600 years of history together. If one assumes “being raised in the same tunnel” is similar to the human equivalent of “growing up in the same neighbourhood,” we can assume the two were born roughly 600 years ago, in the 1400’s. Vinyaya is portrayed as being of a similar age to Root, so her birth can also be put in the same general era. We are also told that Fowl Manor was originally a castle built in the fifteenth century, that in the early 2000’s the theories of timeline corruption were first introduced over five centuries ago, and that cloning has been banned for over five hundred years, so those three events are also tossed into the 1400’s.
Julius Root is noted as doing his LEP basic training 500 years ago in Ireland, so that would have to be in the 1500’s. He would have attended the Academy before then, putting that in the mid-to-late 1400’s. As previously stated, he was in the Academy with Cudgeon. Opal also met Cudgeon in college, and competed with Foaly for science prizes there, so they were all in school at the same time.
Mulch now enters the picture. We aren’t ever given a specific age range for him, but we are told about his career. He has, apparently, spent three centuries in and out of prison after a couple centuries of success as a thief. This would make him at least five hundred years old. There is a brief mention that he tried the athletic route at college before becoming a thief, so he would have to be an adult at that point, putting his age at roughly 550 years during the events of the series.
We then enter a period filled in from one-off lines throughout the series, presumably added to give some depth to the world. Things about the wine cellar at Fowl Manor being a seventeenth century addition, Captain Eusebius Fowl and his crew dying in the eighteenth century, and Mulch first faking his own death over two hundred years ago.
Time Marches On: The 20th Century
There is nothing of much relevance to linger on between the 1550’s and the 20th century, so we’ll jump ahead to the 1900’s, when we have Holly Short’s birthday. She is in her eighties during TLC, and her father died “over twenty years ago” when she was “barely sixty” as of TAI. Based on that, she would have been in her early eighties in 2002, putting her birthday sometime in the 1920’s. What a doll.
A few more birthdays now appear, and we’ll ignore, for the most part, some of the irrelevant ones. I don’t think we are at all concerned with Gaspard Paradizo’s birthday, or Mikhael Vassikin. We are, however, rather more interested in Jon Spiro, Domovoi Butler, and Artemis Fowl I.
Jon Spiro enters the series in TEC, as a middle-aged American. A quick search on the Internet says that middle age is generally noted as being between the ages of 40 to 60. We are told that Spiro has worked in three main industries over the past two and a half decades. Additionally, we are told that law enforcement has been “trying to put [him] away for thirty years.” If we assume he entered the working world at twenty, spent five years developing his professional self, and then started going down a path of questionable legality to get the police after him, that would put him at fifty-five in 2003, and born in the late 1940’s.
It was a bit easier to determine Domovoi Butler’s age, and we can get more specific with his actual birthday. We are told that he is forty at the start of TEC, and he is still forty during TOD. From that, we can assume his birthday is not between March – December, which means it has to be between January – March. Now, we can just leave things there, but contextually, Butler says in late March 2003 that “a lot of people know [him] as a forty-year old man.” Since I doubt he’s the kind of person who introduces himself by announcing that his birthday was last week, we can assume that his birthday is not in March. Since about half the books in the series take place in December, and there is never any mention of Butler’s birthday coming up soon, we can likely assume it isn’t in January. We can therefore conclude Butler was born in February, 40 years before 2003, which puts his birth year in 1963.
We then have Artemis Fowl I. This one took the most extrapolation to determine. We know he has run an ethical empire for a few years as of 2007, which coincides with his return to his family after being kidnapped by the Mafia. He apparently ran a successful criminal empire for two decades before that, though, so in 2007 he has been working for at least 25 years. Based on the interactions he had with his own son, I’ve assumed he was also taught to take over the family business from a young age. If he started working at his age of majority at 18 (as possible in the 1980’s in Ireland, based on a web search), we can assume he was born in roughly the mid 60’s.
Billy Kong, born Jonah Lee, is one to touch on. He plays a large role in TLC, during which we are given possibly the most backstory of any villain in the series. He was evidently born in the early 1970’s, and was eight years old in the early 1980’s. Mathematically, that can only lend itself to so many birth years, so it’s easy enough to put his birthdate somewhere in 1973, and his brother’s death date in 1981.
While we’re here, let’s talk about the 1980’s. A lot of things happen in the 80’s, so we’ll be here for a few paragraphs. Butler would have graduated Madam Ko’s Academy in the early ‘80s, Artemis I would have started working in his family’s business and stolen some warrior mummies (of note, the theft is only noted as being in Artemis Sr.’s “gangster days,” but if you are a young, rich criminal, you’d likely commit a wild theft in your early years as opposed to your thirties, which is why this is put in here). Additionally, in the mid 1980’s, Holly graduates the LEP Academy and her mother dies, as noted in TTP when she is contemplating missing three years of her friends lives.
Butler would have started his five-year stint in Russia with an espionage unit in the mid-to-late 80’s, and become a big brother in 1985. Juliet is noted at being four years older than Artemis in AF in 2001, and he is twelve then, making her sixteen at the time. We can extrapolate the month from TEC, wherein she is apparently eighteen when she is called regarding her brother’s apparent death. At the time, we are told what gifts she received for her birthday, implying it was fairly recent. Additionally, Artemis was only thirteen at that time, which would make Juliet five years older than Artemis. If, however, we trust that acolytes at Madam Ko’s start their training on their tenth birthday and get one chance to graduate per year, it would make sense for that one chance to be on their birthday, or within a day or two to allow for as much training time as possible. Since Juliet was in the midst of this one graduation evaluation when she gets the phone call and joins the crew for the March heist at Spiro’s Needle, she’d have to be born in March. (We can also corroborate this with some details from AF: if AF  takes place in mid-September, that would be just after Artemis’s birthday, which puts the 4-year age difference back into play.)
Spelltropy begins for the People in 1987, if it appeared 20 years ago from 2007. Artemis I and Angeline Fowl would get married in 1987. They would have their first child, Artemis Fowl II, in 1989, as calculated by Artemis being twelve during the initial siege of the Manor in December 2001. Artemis II’s grandfather was noted as having been dead for over ten years at that point, and it was mentioned in TEC that Angeline married her husband before he really took over the family business, so those events would likely happen when Artemis was but a baby in 1990.
The ‘90s are a period where a lot of things are happening, but few are particularly important. Spelltropy has a cure found, Minerva Paradizo is born, Juliet begins her bodyguard training and her brother refuses to let her shave her hair. These, and other events in the 90’s, are mostly calculated by math along the lines of “Event A happened X number of years ago,” but since the 90’s was mostly a time of worldbuilding events rather than plot events, we’ll just skim over the specific details.
‘You Are Here’: The 21st Century, and Where The Storytelling Begins
Welcome to the 2000’s! The kick-off point of not only the 2000’s, but also the entire series, is the sinking of the Fowl Star. We aren’t given a specific date for this, but we are given enough information to extrapolate the date. Specifically, in September 2001, in AF, we are told Fowl Sr. has been missing for almost a year. In TAI, in December, we are told he has been missing for almost two years. That does have the potential to have the ship go down in either December or January, so we need to use a bit more details from TAI to make a final determination. Mikhael Vassikin and Kamar were told to dump Fowl’s body in the Kola if he didn’t wake up in “another year,” so they’ve been looking after him for one at that point. Fowl Sr. wakes up two weeks before the deadline, and as noted earlier, the ransom drop for him takes place December 14, after he has been awake for perhaps a week. From that, we can tell that the deadline for “another year” was mid to late December, putting the initial sinking of the Fowl Star in late 2000.
The analysis gets a bit confusing at this point, because 2001 is when future Artemis and Holly join the party via time travel, as well as having their regular selves in the timestream. Essentially, we’ve established the timeline for the events of TTP above, so we know the whole lemur fiasco takes place in March 2001. Artemis wakes up at the end of that book thinking about fairies, which ties in rather neatly to him then dragging Butler across three continents for six false alarms (with an assumed approximate 3 weeks between each jaunt) before striking metaphorical gold in Ho Chi Minh City in September. During their time-traveling, Holly also gets a chance to talk to Root, who wonders why she isn’t in Hamburg, which was noted in AF as Holly’s first major failure as a Recon officer and was nearly preceding the events of AF. The time-traveling would also mean that Opal would have had to harvest her DNA for future diabolical plans before March 2001, when her younger self travels to the future. Since it takes up to two years to grow a clone to adulthood, and her clone has to be ready in September 2003, we are a few months off in the time requirements, but really, for a practice that’s been outlawed for 500 years, I can offer a bit of leeway.
We are now well and truly in the thick of the main events of the series. Most of this will be tied into the initial assessments we made way at the beginning of this essay, where we established when each book occurs. Because of this, we aren’t going to spend time on anything plot-related. However, a brief note on Turnball Root and Artemis’s Atlantis Complex is likely in order. Artemis was, as previously stated, dealing with his return from Hybras and the after-effects of stealing magic during July and August of 2007. His Atlantis Complex, and Turnball Root’s plan to escape the Deeps prison, are in full swing in September of that year. We have a brief note in TAC during the evacuation of Atlantis, that Turnball had, a month before, spied on Artemis and noted his Atlantis Complex developing. Therefore, Artemis’s Complex likely came into play in late July or early August 2007. This is close enough to Artemis’s magic theft to make sense for the deterioration of his mental health, and enough time for Butler to have started to notice something was wrong, as he did. We can therefore assume that Atlantis Complex, at least in the case of magic-stealing humans who have a propensity for time travel and getting involved in supremely complicated and improbable plots, develops relatively quickly.
This leaves just one major discussion point from the last few books: the age of Artemis’s twin brothers, Beckett and Myles. The twins are first introduced at the very end of TLC. They are written as being two during the events of TTP, three during the events of TAC, and four during the events of TLG. Regardless of the time-traveling shenanigans of their elder brother, it is impossible for the twins to age two years in the eight months between Artemis’s return from Hybras in June 2007 and the finale of the series in March of 2008, so we need to look at what makes sense.
Myles has already potty-trained himself, and done so at fourteen months, so they must be at least that old. Their other behaviours would make sense for them to be two in TTP. Diapers are still a part of their lives, and their language and vocabulary fit what a two-year-old would have, at least in Beckett’s case. Since Artemis was surprised by their existence, it doesn’t seem likely that  Angeline would have known she was pregnant, or at least not have told Artemis yet, when he went to Limbo. Ergo, they can’t be any older than two, since (one would hope) Artemis would have noticed his mother’s pregnancy if the twins were any older.
Additionally, in TLG, we know Artemis gave his brother a birthday present, so he had to have been around during the twin’s birthday at least once. With this fact, the twins cannot be born between March – June, which just leaves the question of when are the twins born?
The most logical answer is February 2005. If Angeline was early on in her pregnancy, say six weeks (which is when most women start noticing symptoms), when Artemis disappeared in July 2004, she wouldn’t necessarily have told him yet. Then, if we assume that since most twin births occur around the 35-week mark, that would math out to having the twins be born in February of 2005. Fast forward, and they would turn one in February 2006, and two in February 2007, which puts them at the correct age for the events of TTP. [One could argue, of course, that a twin pregnancy in an older woman (unfortunately, there is nothing in the series to indicate Angeline’s age) and in a woman already dealing with significant stress could result in a very premature birth, thereby voiding any of this math and leaving the whole question of the twin’s birthday unanswered. However, since I’d rather not subject the Fowl parents to the strife and misery of having one son missing and presumed dead, and their younger children in the NICU with a low survival rate, I’m working with the assumption that the pregnancy was a healthy and normal one.]
The brief comment from Juliet in TAC about the twins being three can be passed off by them being a little over two-and-a-half and Juliet not being around as she is touring in Mexico. By the time TLG takes place, in March of 2008, the twins would have had their third birthday, allowing for Artemis to give Myles his chair as a birthday present, Beckett to be old enough to no longer need diapers, and the behaviours to act more like children than infants. While this doesn’t quite allow for the repeated textual confirmations in TLG that the twins are four, we’ll go with what mathematically makes sense.
That brings us to the end of the timeline! Not everything is touched on in the timeline, and not everything in the books is plotted (we are never given enough context to know Foaly’s or Opal’s birthdates, for instance). But the main events of the Artemis Fowl series are all analyzed, mathematically or logically or textually corroborated, and plotted out, for use or ignoring as personal preference dictates.

Could you perhaps do a romantic wally with a reader that uses a wheelchair? If you aren't comfortable it's very much okay!!
of course i can lovely!! happy to oblige 🥰💖 now, i wasn't sure if you'd prefer a self-propelled or motorised wheelchair, so i've tried to blend the two!! hope that's okay :3c
Wally Darling x Reader Who Uses a Wheelchair headcanons
⭐ your being a wheelchair user isn't something that phases Wally at all - he just wants to make sure you're comfortable! whether you use your wheelchair occasionally or all the time, Wally is surprisingly sensitive to your needs and energy levels. if your friends suggest a game which would exclude you by virtue of your disability, Wally is always quick to come up with an adaptation or improvement which would allow everyone to have fun together. likewise, with a self-propelled wheelchair Wally is happy to push you around when your arms get tired - he loves getting to chat with you while showing you all his favourite places in the neighbourhood 💖 ⭐ although Wally isn't much of a handyman, he tries his best to ensure the neighbourhood is adapted for your needs. enlisting the help of his neighbours (especially Howdy's many arms!), Wally sets about making sure each home and establishment is fully accessible to you: installing ramps and clearing furniture where he can. he can't bear the idea of you being left out! likewise, while Wally isn't initially experienced with your specific needs, he's always happy to listen and learn. that's the great thing about Wally - even when he's uninformed, he'll always sit back with his face cradled by one cheek, listening to you intently as you tell him how you can be better supported 🥺 ⭐ when it comes to his loved ones' mobility aids, Wally is always looking to add a pop of colour! it's Wally's feeling that just because you've been provided with a standard, gunmetal black-wheelchair, that doesn't mean you need to be stuck with the colour scheme. with your permission, Wally takes great delight in helping craft colourful, eye-catching additions to your wheelchair, including fun stripes, spots and rolls of glitter to your rims, armrests, and the back of your chair. he also tends to go a bit crazy during the holidays, with Halloween being the biggest offender. with Wally around, your wheelchair is sure to be decked out in awesome papier-mâché bats, tonnes of spooky webbing, or even transformed into a haunted cardboard vehicle! 🦇 aww, i really liked doing this one :3c i hope you enjoy!!

Day 5: Angst/Sick day
Noah couldn't believe his luck when Alejandro started paying him so much attention after that reunion party. The way Alejandro's deep, green eyes locked onto his during their conversations sent shivers down his spine. He cherished the fleeting moments when Alejandro's fingers brushed against his hand, or when their bodies inched closer together, igniting a fire within him. The way Alejandro flirted, even if it was all fake, made Noah's heart race.
But deep down, Noah knew the painful truth. Alejandro wasn't interested in him for who he was; he was merely a pawn in Alejandro's game to make Heather jealous. The reason Alejandro had chosen Noah was crystal clear – Cody. Alejandro knew that if Cody was around, Sierra and Heather would inevitably follow. Noah was just a means to an end, a convenient way to get under Heather's skin.
Yet, even as he realized he was being used, Noah couldn't help but savor those stolen moments of affection. It was as if, for a brief time, he felt loved and desired, even if it was a facade. In those moments, he allowed himself to believe that Alejandro's feelings might be genuine, even when his rational mind screamed otherwise.
Noah's heart was trapped in a web of emotions, torn between the painful knowledge of Alejandro's manipulation and the intoxicating feeling of being wanted, even if it was all part of a twisted game. It was a tormenting paradox that Noah couldn't escape, and he found himself willingly ensnared in Alejandro's emotional manipulation, yearning for something real amid the chaos.
Noah couldn't deny the truth that Heather's silent plea had unveiled, but he found himself unable to resist Alejandro's charm and allure. Each time Alejandro reached out, brushed his arm, or sent a flirtatious glance his way, Noah's resolve weakened. It was as if Alejandro possessed an irresistible magnetism that drew him in, despite the knowledge that he was being emotionally manipulated.
Even when Heather's look of pity bore into him, Noah couldn't bring himself to shut Alejandro out. The intoxicating feeling of being desired, even if it was part of a devious scheme, held him in its grip. His heart ached for the moments when Alejandro's attention was solely on him, as brief and artificial as they might be.
Noah was trapped in a conflicting storm of emotions, torn between his growing affection for Alejandro and the understanding that he was being used. As much as he wished to heed Heather's warning, he found himself unable to turn away from Alejandro's enchanting facade. It was a dangerous dance of emotions that threatened to consume him, and he knew that he was treading on thin ice.
Noah's peaceful slumber was rudely interrupted by a notification on his phone. He groggily reached for it, and his heart skipped a beat when he saw Alejandro's message: "I need to tell you something, Noah. Come over." Instantly, his mind began to race, and his palms grew sweaty as he responded with a terse "Okay."
Hurriedly, he swung his legs over the edge of his bed, grabbing his jacket in a nervous frenzy. He couldn't help but check his reflection in the mirror, though he knew Alejandro probably wouldn't notice. His dark hair was as unruly as ever, and his glasses were slightly askew. Satisfied with his appearance, or at least resigned to it, he made his way to Alejandro's front door, each step feeling like an eternity as questions and apprehension swirled in his mind.
As he stood before Alejandro's door, his knuckles poised to knock, his heart pounded in his chest. Before he could act, the door swung open, revealing Alejandro with a nervous expression that contradicted his forced smile. Noah's heart sank, but he couldn't turn back now.
Noah entered the dimly lit apartment, its atmosphere heavy with tension and uncertainty. Alejandro handed him a cold bottle of an unfamiliar drink, which he accepted without a second thought, too consumed by his own thoughts to question it. He took a few deep swigs, the liquid offering a fleeting distraction from the turmoil in his mind.
Then, Alejandro's voice shattered the silence. "Noah, me and Heather got back together."
Noah's body tensed, and his grip on the bottle tightened involuntarily. He felt as though the ground had shifted beneath him. He was frozen, a whirlwind of emotions churning within him – disbelief, confusion, and a deepening sense of betrayal. It was a revelation that threatened to rewrite the entire narrative of their tangled emotions, and Noah couldn't help but wonder what this new development would mean for him and the precarious role he played in Alejandro's convoluted game.
Noah's gaze shot up to Alejandro, whose nervous expression had grown more pronounced. As he met Alejandro's eyes, the pieces of the puzzle fell into place with a sickening clarity. Alejandro had known all along, Noah realized, and his heart plunged into an abyss of despair.
The weight of the revelation bore down on Noah like a suffocating blanket, and he couldn't hold back the overwhelming wave of nausea that surged within him. Panic clenched at his throat, and he covered his mouth with his trembling hand. With hurried steps, he made his way to the bathroom, each footfall echoing in the confines of Alejandro's apartment.
Once inside the bathroom, Noah leaned over the sink, retching as the conflicting emotions and bitter truth swirled within him. He felt betrayed, used, and utterly lost in this twisted game of affection and manipulation. It was a moment of intense vulnerability as he emptied his stomach into the sink, the bile a bitter reflection of the turmoil in his heart.
As he straightened up, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, Noah couldn't help but wonder how he had fallen so deeply into this tangled web of emotions. He knew that he had some difficult decisions to make, but in that moment, all he could feel was the raw pain of betrayal and the disorienting aftermath of the truth coming to light.
Noah's gaze flickered up, meeting Alejandro's imposing silhouette in the bathroom doorway. In the dimly lit room, the tension hung heavy, and Noah could almost taste the bitterness in the air. He expected that same disingenuous comforting voice that Alejandro had used so often before – a veneer of care hiding the manipulation beneath.
But this time, Alejandro's words were like shards of ice. His voice was devoid of the usual fake warmth, and he offered no pretense. "Next time, throw up in the toilet," he said, each word sharp and cutting, before slowly closing the bathroom door, leaving Noah alone in his shattered vulnerability.
Noah crumbled into a sobbing mess, his body shaking with the intensity of his emotions. The bathroom felt suffocating, the flickering overhead light casting eerie shadows on the walls. Betrayal, hurt, and despair coiled tightly around his heart, threatening to suffocate him.
As Noah sobbed uncontrollably, he couldn't help but recognize the complexity of his feelings. He knew that he was being used, but a part of him still yearned for Alejandro's fake affections, no matter how artificial they were. It was a twisted longing, a desperate desire for something that he knew could never be genuine.
In that moment of raw vulnerability, Noah grappled with the paradox of his emotions. He understood the cycle he was trapped in, where he craved
the very person who had hurt him the most. It was a painful realization that left him feeling utterly lost, ensnared in a web of emotions that threatened to consume him entirely. He knew that if Alejandro and Heather ever split up, he would likely let Alejandro back in, despite the pain and deception. It was a cruel and torturous truth that Noah couldn't escape, and as he wept in the solitude of the bathroom, he felt more trapped than ever.
He wanted him to be fake again.
(erm im so cringe, i gotta make one of them a bitch so.. anyways i wanted to write it longer with more Cody, Sierra and Heather interactions buttt.. i have to write the other parts too so i made it shorter)
(andd im going to write more for day 5, because i like sick prompts, im going to write a grumpy sick Noah and an emotional sick Alejandro that is going to be a little angsty, or i could just do one of them or both. y'all decide)

I just finished Re-reading The Dreamer in the Spring Boudoir and omg it’s just amazing the second time around. Technically, this would be my first time reading it completely. The first time I read it, I got distracted at around the 90% mark and didn’t finish.
But omg I love this web novel so much. The characters are so flawed and complex and human! Trash Man aka Ning Yuxuan probably had the best character arc out of all the characters. I loved hating him in the beginning when he truly was a trash man. And then I gleefully laughed when Ji Man threw him for a loop and didn’t make life easy for him. Then I relished in his suffering as he had to grovel and work his ass off to try to win Ji Man’s heart only to fail. After that, I felt bad for him as he desperately tried to get Ji Man to open up her heart a bit. Then that turned to rooting for him to get the girl and also wanting to shake some sense into Ji Man. And finally, I swooned and awwed seeing the lengths he went to to protect Ji Man and give her a peaceful life. If you’re going to get swept up in a fight for the throne and dangerous political intrigue, Trash Man is definitely the person you want to be with!
The level of scheming and many layers of planning this man did was truly frightening albeit highly effective.
This line especially stuck out to me:
““Right now, was this considered a meeting of villains that were colluding together?”
Because viewed from a different perspective, Trash Man and Ji Man could definitely be the antagonists in another story bahahaha. I loved that Trash Man had once considered taking the throne for himself but only turned down the idea because of some weird clan rule that said his clan’s descendants could never ascend to the throne. He certainly could have usurped the throne several times easily.
And Ji Man! What a great main character. Just like Trash Man, she is frighteningly competent and not someone you want to mess with. I like that she doesn’t go after people unless they harmed her first. Oh boy does she hold a grudge and will do anything to get her revenge. What’s great about her is that she’s not omnipotent and gets into trouble/makes mistakes/misreads situations. She has a bit of an advantage since she knows some of the story’s plot and has her knowledge from modern times, but that isn’t always enough to keep her safe or out of trouble. That’s so refreshing to see in a transmigrator story!
And the side characters! I don’t know how this author did it but they got me to care about the side characters. I even teared up while reading the death scene of the second prince and his wife Pengyue. This author really has a way with words because I could totally imagine how the second prince looked and sounded as he dragged his body over to his wife’s bed, not realizing that she’s already dead. And the whole time he’s “berating” her for seemingly betraying him, he’s also making excuses for her and already talking about how she’ll have to make it to him. We didn’t get too many details about their relationship, but the author easily conveyed how much he loved Pengyue in just that one scene. I would totally read a story or watch a drama just about those two.
I was invested throughout the entire novel even though it’s super long at over 500 chapters. It’s THAT good. That’s why it pains me to think about that abomination of an adaptation. I haven’t seen it, but just by the trailers alone, I could tell it would not do the story justice. There are too many plot lines in this story that would not pass censorship. I mean, Ning Yuxuan was responsible for raising up and then dethroning three different emperors one after the other. No way would the censors have allowed that. But even if we were to put that aside, there’s just too much stuff to fit into 38 episodes.
Anyway, read it, loved it, would absolutely recommend it you’re into transmigrator stories. Now I’m off to read the bonus chapters.

ok I've been incredibly glum lately (lol understatement) and I am also procrastinating my outrageously overwhelming to do list at the moment, so I thought: I'm going to post a TLE2 snippet because why the heck not. I'm still working on the chapter so I still don't know when the whole thing will get posted, but here, have some chapter 50 drama.
Excerpt from TLE2, Chapter 50: What Tangled Webs
“I don’t like it,” said James for about the hundredth time as they made their way down to the Great Hall for breakfast. Sirius had insisted on waiting in the common room for his one true love, Lily Evans, Remus had insisted on waiting with Sirius so as not to subject Lily to Sirius unsupervised, and James had insisted on waiting for absolutely no one and getting the hell out of there as fast as his feet could carry him — so it was just the two of them, James and Peter, briskly descending the stairs of one of their many shortcuts. Peter was actually rather pleased by the arrangement. He didn’t get much one-on-one time with James these days, not that he ever got much before, but still. It was nice — even if James spent the whole walk complaining about Sirius’s scheme.
“I don’t like it. I don’t like lying. I’m no good at it. I haven’t the constitution for it.”
Peter, who recalled quite clearly watching James easily lie his face off to the Headmaster last year about Sirius’s would-be homicide, felt this was a bit rich. “You lie all the time.”
James looked properly offended. “I do not! Who am I lying to?”
“Teachers, Madam Pomfrey, you know…Marauder stuff.”
“Oh, that doesn’t count. I mean really lying. To my friends. To my girlfriend. Merlin, I hate this. I hate lying to Florence, and now I have yet another thing I have to lie about!”
“What else are you lying to her about?” asked Peter curiously.
“Nothing.” Was it his imagination, or did James go slightly pink? “Just — you know. Marauder stuff. Sneaking out on the full moons, skipping Slug Club dinners and saying it’s for detentions, that sort of thing.” A deep sigh, a heave of shoulders. “Why is everything so bloody difficult?”
“By everything, do you mean girls?”
“Yeah.”
“Search me.”
James cast him a sidelong look. “You and Winnie. How’s that going? Flor mentioned you were in a — er — ‘open relationship’ now.”
“That’s right,” said Peter, though internally he was cringing.
“What is that, exactly?”
“It’s where you can snog multiple girls at the same time.”
James appeared taken aback. “You can do that?”
“Sure.”
“And…are you? Snogging multiple girls?”
The secret to lying, Peter had learned over the years, was not to follow a lie too far. “I might,” he said with a noncommittal shrug. “If I feel like it.”
James considered this for the pace of seven stairs. “I don’t think I’d like that,” he muttered, more to himself than to Peter, it seemed.

What makes a good yandere character for you? What are some of your favorite yanderes? And what are some that you like the least?
Aaa my first ask! Thank you so much!! Yes, as you can tell from my username, I do like yandere characters quite a bit! And I'm super excited to finally start ranting about them lollll Alright, this might get pretty long so I'll put my answers under the cut!
What makes a good yandere character for you?
This is a very subjective question, but first I'll explain what makes a character yandere.
"Yandere" comes from the Japanese verb 病んでいる which means to be sick. This can refer to any sort of illness, but with yandere characters, it's referring to ailments of the soul so to say. Basically a "yandere" character is anyone who becomes sick with love. Which is really vague, I know - but that's how it is.
A character can kill for love and still not be considered yandere. A different character can respect their target's (the person they are affectionate toward - their "darling") free-will and autonomy and still be considered yandere. It's vague and open to interpretation. What one person considers yandere, another might find them just being possessive.
Just getting a few common misconceptions out of the way first:
-Yandere characters can be abusive to their targets, but just because a character is abusive, that doesn't mean that they're yandere
-A character doesn't have to go around killing people to be considered yandere
Okay, with that out of the way, time to talk about my favorite kinds of yandere characters!
I like characters who are subtly manipulative, the characters that mess with their target's perceptions of reality to mold them into someone who can accept their isolation. I like to describe the buildup as "walking into a spider's web, and only after you think to turn around do you realize that it's too late." These characters can appear to be very doting (溺愛) to their targets and lull them into a false sense of security, and usually only show their true selves to people they see as their love rivals. These characters can also be commonly described as haraguro (腹黒) or scheming.
But I can go for any sort of yandere character! I'm not so good with gore tho so I try to avoid that, but any other type has their own appeals. There was this huge chart about the different types of yandere characters and their "symptoms" I found before, maybe I'll dig it up and explain it in detail in another post eventually. But for now I will move on to the next question!
What are some of your favorite yanderes?
I can explain a bit more about the kind of yandere characters I love by using some of my favs as examples! Please note that I read a lot of shoujo, especially because the yandere trope is gaining some good popularity in that demographic, so these are all male yanderes. Though, I do love me a good female yandere character too!
Tumblr media
My absolute favorite yandere character is Haruma from 恋と心臓 (Love and Heart) Seriously, no one does it as well as him. I don't want to spoil anything since it's more fun to experience the craziness yourself and the series is available in English!
But to give a brief summary: Yoh (the main character), having lived a life where she didn't have anyone she could rely on, is incredibly independent. But then her childhood friend (who she doesn't remember), Haruma, moves in with her and suddenly she finds herself in the position of damsel in distress again and again, with Haruma being the only one to save her.
It's a great blend of psychological horror, romcom, and drama with a huge dose of unhealthy relationships and a happy ending! I recommend it to everyone who is comfy with the subject matter.
Tumblr media
Kuroyuki from Nightshade deserves special mention for being the reason I started liking yandere characters in the first place.
I never really got the appeal before him, but when I played Nightshade, I liked him from the start. I tend to love comic relief characters (who are secretly quite sad/serious) so he caught my eye right away and then when the cray-cray hit, I was like,
Oh no, that's hot.
And it was over for me after that lol. Yandere love interests in otome games have a reputation for caging, and Kuroyuki has a subtle approach to this. He spins this (not entirely false) tale that everyone is trying to kill Enju (the main character) except for him, and that he's the only one who could protect her. I won't go into his backstory, but an unhealthy amount of delusions feed into his obsession as well.
The game is fun and intense, and I highly recommend it if you would like to cry. Check out my Why you should play Nightshade PowerPoint here:
Tumblr media
If you're looking for other good otome games with fun yandere characters, I also recommend: Amnesia: Memories, Taisho x Alice, and Mystic Messenger.
After Kuroyuki, I started reading a lot of Japanese webnovels with yandere characters (I literally have a page in my browser with just the yandere tag on shousetsuka ni narou that I browse thru regularly) I could probably do a whole post just about yandere characters in webnovels, but for a quick recommendation, I suggest checking out Kotoko-sensei's (琴子) works or, for something a bit more bizarre, check out Inaida-sensei's (稲井田そう) works. (I once went thru a phase where I was obsessed with all of Inaida-sensei's works around 2~3 years ago.)
Anyways, on to the final question!
What are some yanderes that you like the least?
Well, I tend to dislike the yandere characters that are not well thought out. It's easy enough to put a knife in a character's hand or make them shove someone in a cage, but it's not interesting unless they have a compelling reason why. What leads them to decide they have no other choice but to kill a rival (or their target) or take away their target's freedom?
This is why I tend to dislike side characters who are yandere (especially in harem series) because they're usually not given a whole lot of depth or character building - like a main character would have.
I think a lot of the appeal from yandere characters comes from their depth, complexity, and how they can be hypocritical by nature. I love them but I hate them because they care about other people. I don't want to scare them but I need to protect them. I don't care if they hate me as long as they stay by my side.
If I were to name a yandere character I dislike, though, I would have to say Yuno Gasai (from Future Diary) who is a rather famous case. I don't think she's a bad character - in fact, she's a really great character and a good example of what happens if obsession is left to fester in a high-stakes, dangerous environment. But her character has been boiled down to crazy anime girl who kills a bunch of people for her crush by the internet, which has completely changed the way many people view the word and perceive the trope of "yandere." I just find it irritating and as the self-proclaimed saleswoman of yandere, it makes my job a lot harder.
Can yandere be considered problematic? Sure, absolutely. But does it have to involve murder, rape, gore, or other triggering content? Absolutely not.
(This goes for this whole post, but please note that I am talking about fictional characters, and this in no way reflects real life people)
All in all, I'm very passionate about yandere characters and yandere content. I just find them so compelling, and especially love exploring relationships involving a yandere character - because it usually involves having to come to some sort of compromise. I could probably rant on and on and on about it but this answer is already so long lol
Thank you so much for the ask again! And anyone can feel free to send asks if they would like me to clarify on any of this! I do love ranting about these sorts of things

since this seems to be my topic of obsession for today...
turns out Bluesky internally uses content-based addressing and IPFS. I don't have a lot of use for it since it's a Twitter clone, and I've never got on very well with Twitter. Bluesky hides most of that from the user - it looks just like any old web app backed by a central server. i need to look into this more, Bluesky is taking inspiration from IPFS but it's using its own protocol, and it is doing some good things. I think its protocols could be used for something more Tumblr-like.
there's a protocol called PubSub which sounds like it does a lot of what I want, or rather gives you the low-level framework to broadcast info across a decentralised network. you could build a social network on top of that. IPFS uses it as one way of handling mutable data, like 'my website just updated'.
there's an absolute plethora of ideas, protocols, and tools for decentralised file sharing, decentralised messaging, decentralised social networks. this broad idea space is very much the hot new thing at the moment. some of them seem like they're growing. a lot of them have glossy websites with animations and stock photos of smiling people. it's hard to know in advance what's worth paying attention to. the whole field is dense with acronyms and rather abstruse concepts. which unfortunately means the current audience tends to be limited to tech nerds (c'est moi) and crypto cultists (ce n'est pas moi. merde!).
Briar is a protocol I find personally very appealing. it's security-oriented, designed to be crazy resilient, creating a mesh network through whatever protocols are available. you use it for E2E-encrypted messaging, but also you can use it for threaded discussions and blogs. right now it's only available for phones but they're working on a desktop version. the primary use case seems to be like "you're at a protest and the gov shuts off the internet", but it would be a very sexy place to put your blog. that said, I expect it would not be very fast at all.
the major encryptable, decentralised Discord/IRC alternative is Matrix. I broadly like the look of it, but we have the same problem of inertia getting people to switch from Discord, and there's still some jank I encountered when I tried it.
there's a lot of cryptocurrency in this whole area. (not surprising since the underlying tech of crypto is also hash-based, and there's ideological overlap between crypto and torrent people, because 'decentralised').
notably, there's a companion project to IPFS, a complicated scheme called FileCoin which is designed to encourage people to host data for a certain period in return for FileCoin tokens. you get FileCoins for consistently holding onto the data, and you lose a stake of FileCoins if you delete it prematurely. these FileCoins can then be used mainly to pay other people to host data for you: you pay FileCoins to a host, and pay them again to fetch your data(!). or you can trade them for other cryptocurrencies.
I'll acknowledge it doesn't seem as intrinsically environmentally corrosive as proof-of-work crypto, or even as simply 'the rich get richer' as proof-of-stake crypto. it's not filling up HDDs with random crap either. though it does sound like it requires quite a bit of CPU work to be done in all the hashing for the 'sealing' process.
I'm still not entirely convinced of the benefit this scheme brings. crypto stuff has a tendency to go belly-up very abruptly when speculative bubbles pop, so I wouldn't be super excited to rely on FileCoin for archiving some valuable bit of data. of course any offsite backup carries risk, e.g. Dropbox could go bankrupt one day. but I'm way less convinced of the benefits of something like FileCoin than IPFS. I guess it remains to be seen if this takes off.

“Uh… lame power? Get better? Don’t be a human kite?”
“I fucking hate you.”
“SORRY CAN'T HEAR YOU AIR PRESSURE TOO LOUD”
Yall probably fight really well together
He thinks up the plans and you shapeshift and attack
Dynamic duo vibes fr
DROPPING IN ON A VILLAIN FROM ABOVE
BLOCKING OUT THE SUN OR SOME SHIT
Coolest duo
Tumblr media
Stan
“Dude I TOLD YOU not to go in the radioactive lake”
“Oh… I thought that was code for go into the radioactive lake”
“In what world is telling you not to do something code for doing it?”
“Uh- YOU CANT CONTROL ME I CAN TURN INTO A BIRD NOW”
Tries to not be impressed because he’s supposed to be annoyed
But he thinks its so fucking cool
Lowkey wanted that to be his power if he could choose anything
After the veal thing he volunteered at animal shelters
This is real because I said so let me be delusional
Asks you to turn into a cat and talk to the other cats to make sure they don’t hate him
Because ferguson always glares at him from the corner and he is NOT interested in being attacked by a bunch of pissed cats
Convinced they’re scheming against him
Still mad at you for going into the radioactive lake though
Tumblr media
Kenny
He cannot comprehend it
Like you try explaining it to him and it is just NOT clicking
The only thing that works is telling him it’s like Beast Boy from Teen Titans
“Oh so you can shapeshift into animals while still regaining your consciousness?”
“I literally said that fifteen times- You anger me so much every day.”
Wants to make the teen titans
He is robin (obviously)
Probably has the costume from halloween a few years back
PLEASE turn into a bear and pretend to fight him
He wants to say he fought a bear
And cartman bet him $100 that he couldn’t
Choreographs an entire battles scene in the middle of town
Because it’s not like south park animal control actually does anything
Kenny now owes you 10 favors that can be cashed in whenever needed
Tumblr media
Butters
Turning into a tiger whenever he gets bullied and scaring the shit out of whoever is bothering him
(usually it's eric)
Or turning into a little puppy whenever he’s sad
“Everything alright, butters?”
“Oh, it’s nothing.”
“So you don’t want me to turn into a husky and play with a frisbee?”
“Well you didn’t mention that. That changes everything!”
Just being his lil animal buddy
Turning into an elephant walking to a doctors appointment to get there in like 2 seconds
If he’s professor chaos, he refuses to attack when you’re an animal
It’s animal abuse 🙁
He’ll punch you in the face as a person but he REFUSES to hit a cat
Even if you’re a mountain lion lunging at him
Heart of gold fr
Tumblr media
Overall
NO ONE TELLS CARTMAN
A rat got into his sock drawer and ripped holes in all of them?
What a shame :( so sorry that happened to you
Suddenly all of his clothes have cat piss on them
How could that have happened??? Poor poor eric
What do you mean you’ve found spider webs everywhere but no spiders? Hopefully there aren’t spider eggs everywhere. That would be terrible.
Really just looking for excuses to ruin cartman’s day

Bite the Moonlight & Bleed Gold by raisesomehale
Sterek - Complete - Merman AU - Words: 86,432 Rating: Explicit
Seven years after being tricked and imprisoned by the Argents, Derek Hale finds himself off the blistering coasts of Antarctica aboard the Argentum Domina, an illegal prison ship out of which the Argents operate their behemoth, underground poaching empire. Derek, a bitter, pack-less alpha, spends his days working off his servitude by poaching creatures for Gerard to sell on the Black Magic Market, just trying to retain his sanity as he earns back the years of his life one capture at a time. But there doesn't seem to be an end, or future, in sight for him. Until, everything changes when Allison Argent brings him a capture case with a reward price so ludicrous that he has no choice but to accept.
The only problem is, the target creature shouldn't even exist.
Derek is flung fast into the deep webbings of a bigger mystery than he could have ever imagined. And discovers that, like this enchanting creature, not everything is as it seems. Can Derek unmask the schemes that threaten not only his life, but the state of the very world itself? And if doing so means losing the unexpected love he finds along the way, will he be willing to make that sacrifice?
THOUGHTS: The author put a lot of work into creating this, and it shows! This was a passion project for sure. It's a complete novel! From beginning to end, the story flowed and unfolded beautifully. My heart could barely handle it at times! It's got Merman Stiles, which immediately captured my attention, and the world and lore built around Derek and Stiles is just fascinating! It's one of those stories I'll save and reread. It's AU, of course, but there are so many elements of canon woven throughout it's awesome how the author put it all together. I LOVED this! 10/10 would recommend clearing your calendar to read this one!

The Bright Side of Disaster by Gia279
Tucked between fresh harvested vegetables and fruits, homemade skincare products and lovingly knit scarves and sewn shawls, were booths and tables selling potions, amulets, crystals, and herbs, athames and wands, scrying glasses and hand-embroidered altar cloths. Beacon Hills was a hotbed for magical activity, and it drew the supernatural community like moths to a flame. There were rumors that magical tools crafted in town were more powerful, potions more effective, even herbs more potent.

When he walks back to the table, Derek’s out of his seat before he can think better of it. He’s going to ask him out. He’s going to go over there, he’s not going to say the man has a mouth he’ll dream about or give any cheesy, half-assed pick-up line, and he’s going to ask him if he would like to get coffee some time. Maybe he’ll skip that and go straight for dinner, or the bookstore. Derek’s heard you can learn a lot about a person by what they read. He’s cool. He can do this. “Hi,” he says, eyes flickering down to the glossy pamphlets of houses for sale that litter the table, and when panic overtakes him, what comes out of his mouth isn’t any of those things. “I’m thinking about buying a new place. Are you an agent?” Ah, crap.
Waning Crescent by Dexterous_Sinistrous
Derek’s scent was a heady warmth that enveloped Stiles’ senses. It was like the first strike of rain in a dried forest. A crisp smokiness to the tickle of petrichor. It lit up an unfamiliar spark in Stiles’ gut. And for the first time in a couple hundred years, his fangs ached.
how long will it take (to finally atone) by lookingforatardis
“I could hurt you,” Stiles says quietly, and doesn’t quite understand why he’s being honest himself. “You wouldn’t.” “I did, though. I did, Derek.” Stiles’ voice shakes and he has to pull his attention away from Derek to calm himself down from the sudden flash of memory. Silence fills the room until it’s uncomfortable, until Stiles has to look, and finds Derek watching him with a closed expression. “That was the nogitsune,” he tells him. “Not you.” Or: Void hurts Derek while possessing Stiles and Stiles has an extremely hard time recovering from what Void did to Derek even after the nogitsune is gone. The thought of touching him sends him into a blind panic, terrifying him as if every touch will hurt him all over again. Stiles can only take so much, after all, and Derek has always been his weak spot.
Don't forget to leave the authors some love!

So I have had this idea in my head for months now. I don't exactly remember what spurred it on but one day I was like "Yo what if Jacob had a stand? 👀" And thus Radiohead was created
I'm gonna be putting more pictures on what his stand looks like and does below, with more in depth information on how it works if anyone's interested
Jacob belongs to @carnivorekitty uwu
First I wanna start off with some smaller things before I get into the main parts lol. Honestly, I wasn't sure what Jacob would name his stand. The only reason why I chose Radiohead as its name was because of this post, and I don't think Jacob would want to name his stand Creep so sdpfjsdp. Also I know the color scheme is kinda weird, I had no idea what colors to choose and I always imagined his stand was blue so like if anyone has a better color scheme for his stand, go fucking wild 👍
Tumblr media
So the main gimmick with Radiohead is that its joints shoot off and can be used as projectile weapons. Other than packing a mean punch (its knuckles also have studs so you don't want that hitting your face lol), its mainly good for the fishing wire that connects each of its body parts together. This wire is deadly. It is extremely sharp and can almost cut through anything. Jacob has the ability to control where his stand's joints go, so in theory, he could tie someone up with his wire and chop them up. While he has a close-ranged stand, meaning it can't leave more than 10 meters away from him, it does have long-ranged abilities due to its reach with the fishing wires. It will be more difficult to control the further away it is from him, since he'll have to take perspective into account, and if it gets too far away from him, he just won't be able to see where he wants the joints to go. (I do also wanna mention I never decided how long the wires could reach. They stop at some point but I don't know when 😔)
His stand is also pretty good at fighting in the water uwu. Its legs can switch between a leg mode and a tail mode by connecting its legs with magnets that will hold them together. This gives its more mobility in the water with its multiple fins and webbed hands and feet.
The downside to his stand is that since each of its body parts is connected to a long string of wire, this means that the inside of his stand is hollow, making it susceptible to blunt force attacks. The best strategy I could think of is that Jacob should try to use his wires against enemies that can punch, whereas he should not separate at all when facing against enemies that can deal slashing damage.
Tumblr media
I was trying to think of how injuries would transfer to Jacob if his stand got hurt. I decided that dealing blunt blows can result in broken bones, and if his wires ever got cut, he's losing a limb 😔
