OML... it's tied between Arkham Origins and Arkham Knight! both of them have amazing dialogue and story just I like Knight's gameplay/visuals slightly more.

ALSO just peak batjokes content overall in both games! I cry everytime I think about them... (pic from origins)

this is SO hard to answer, because so many of the characters are, like, those pet adoption ads that say "MUST STAY TOGETHER, CANNOT BE SEPARATED". it's all about the relationship dynamics! and I think everybody in the main cast is pretty neat, honestly; there isn't anyone who doesn't have something I really like about them. but if I haaaaad to choose...

Hearts - Trey, partly because I do like me a good Mom Friend™ character, and partly because he pretends like he's all sane and normal, right up until he does something to prove he's just as much of a dipshit as everyone else. you're not immune, sir.

Savana - BUFF 👏 TSUNDERE 👏 WEREWOLF 👏

Octa - this one took a lot of soul-searching, because I do feel like the Octatrio is at their very best when it's all three of them, especially when they're in full Ed Edd n Eddy mode. but in the end, Jade ekes out a win, because sometimes you get this Jade:

Scara - Kalim, my sweet little moron. such a good heart, so few braincells.

Pome - 90% of the time when Rook shows up, you know it's going to a be fun time watching a silly little man dance around and break into song for no reason and wax poetic about the beauty of, like, a chair. always a delight!

except every once in a while, he'll bust out something that is absolutely insane even by Twst standards:

this isn't a complaint, it's just. why is he like this. I want to study him under a microscope, except I'm afraid of what I might find.

Igni - MUST STAY TOGETHER! CANNOT BE SEPARATED! ...but I would probably go with Ortho, just because right now I'm pretty invested in his Learning Emotions story arc and looking forward to seeing it progress. he's a good boy who will post your cringe fanfic publicly if you annoy him

...and at this point I'm calling technicality because the ask says "other dorms", and I genuinely do not think I could choose between the Dia boys at this point. let's see how episode 7 goes first!

It's quite funny having followed you for years and years and knowing Machete as his dark, bloodied, cunning (and always on the edge of getting horribly murdered for his hubris) incarnation, and coming into 2024 and just... yeah he's gay now. Maybe he's even happy. Redemption at last... perhaps he DID get assassinated indeed and all those AUs are just his personal afterlife (does he get to go to Heaven? Seems so!)

#redemption at last #personally I've always known he isn't as cool and cunning as he pretends to be #but when he didn't have anyone to interact with the dorkier more humane side never surfaced #the art I made of him was overwhelmingly serious and angry and sad and portrayed him in a more mysterious light #I didn't really talk about him or answer asks about what his deal is #(or any of my characters for that matter for years I just didn't feel comfortable opening up about them) #which is fine on it's own but I think he's currently benefitting from having a wider spectrum of emotions to choose from #doesn't mean that the dark bloodied cunning version is outdated I think these are traits that can coexist in a single character #answered #anonymous #but in a way seeing that he can be happy caring and genuine and gets tummy aches and likes snails and fresh bread #and has a small handful of loved ones and these positive qualities you might've not known about before #makes the misery more potent when they are taken away from him #at least in my opinion

merrill dragon age isn't The Character in terms of being the guy with the juiciest backstory details or protagonist material but she is The Person. The Heart. she was working on one of the most important researches of elven history and no one believed in her. not her keeper, her teacher and mother figure. nor her clan, the only family she's ever had. nor hawke's friends, the only people who were surrounding her for six years. the only person who can actually place their faith in her is hawke but if they don't she won't mind. she is used to it, being on her own. and, despite everything, she believes in people. she knows it matters. better than anyone.

she has never heard a nice word from fenris, but she still tries to cheer him up from time to time. she has never heard a nice word from anders either and she still feels for him. varric annoys her when he tries to distract her from the eluvian, but she appreciates it because she knows he means well. aveline refers to her work as senseless and potentially dangerous for the city, but she is still happy for her when she falls in love.

if hawke sides with mages in the last straw merrill is the first to support them. "I believe in you, hawke", she says, when everyone else is consumed by doubt. and then she's the only one who openly suggests sparing anders. so he can put things right.

she knows the feeling. when you're on your own and everyone thinks you're beyond salvation, undeserving of compassion or understanding. and this is the best she can offer for people she cares about: her unconditional faith, her sympathy, a second chance. the things she was desparately looking for and never had. she believes in people because she knows: there's no one else to believe in them

if how you picture a character is vastly different to how I do? that's fine, that's cool. and it is kind of cool, isn't it? that we can read the same words and they strike us in such different ways?

because i think we put a little bit of ourselves into everything we read and I sort of love that.

i'll never be able to understand the arguments people have over what a character should look like or sound like or how they'd behave in a particular way etc, because it's all so subjective.

we see what we need to see in stories and i think that's the beauty of it.

its also such a huge reason why I adore muggle AU's so much, because they get to be literally anyone. sometimes they carry traits from canon or whatever, and that's clever too. but so often I've read a fic where they're totally different to what we usually see and i adore that, it sort of changes them in my brain a little and makes up more of how i see them.

people are allowed to feel so differently to you and like a character to be a different way than you do, and i personally think that's part of the charm of fandom.
