before you adopt an "unusual" pet of any kind, I think it's really, really important to ask yourself why you absolutely need to have this specific species in your house. not just if you think you can take care of this pet, but why exactly you need this kind of pet, instead of a more common domestic animal which 1. will be better understood and researched due to many years of having lived in close quarters with people and 2. will be much, much easier to find proper vet care for.

I grew up with dogs. as a kid, I thought I wanted a pet dragon. seeing as this wish was somewhat difficult to grant for myself, as an adult, I sat down and evaluated what exactly it was kid-me thought would be so awesome about having a dragon for an animal companion.

"well," I told myself, "I really want a pet that's more emotionally guarded than a dog. something that won't love just anyone; I want to feel special by virtue of being 'chosen' by something that is normally aloof and hard to get close to. oh, and I want it to be cool-looking! it has to move all majestically and be sleek and elegant, and I want it to be fun to watch! I'm also drawn to the idea of misunderstood animals that people think are evil, but actually they're sensitive, beautiful, fascinating creatures, and we could learn so much from them if only we could overcome our own biases and see them for the raw, natural sincerity they embody!"

#deerchatter #i know i wax on and on about how cats are the perfect pets etc etc but the thing is that im right #personal bias aside i have to admit i always kind of side-eye ppl who want pet foxes and skunks and whatever else #like im sure some ppl have them as parts of research projects and stuff like that #but a lot of ppl also. dont. lol #making wise and compassionate choices for your pet start before you acquire them. being responsible starts in the planning process #if you ask me pet ownership should be about mutual benefit not just between the owner and pet but between species #sure maybe you'll figure out how to take proper care of a fox. but what about foxes as a species?#what impact will your choice in pet have on the species as a whole? will more people want pet foxes because they see yours?#will more be sold because you got one? does this add or detract from the amount of happy healthy foxes in the world?#im far from an expert on the subject so i don't know the answer but i think these are important questions to ask yourself.#what i do know is there are countless cats in the world who can only thrive under human guardianship. who need homes.#i saw overlap between what i wanted and what this animal species needed. and 4 years later it's still a perfect match #i love my little baby dragon so much

realizing im kind of a weirdo about laios and marcille

Strongheart and Willbreaker, Epochstar's parents.

Lore and their baby under the cut :)

Willbreaker's family line have been expert jewelers for generations because their lack of claws allow them to work without scratching the work. His name is so imposing since his mother knew he would grow up to be big and strong for the tribe, even if they moved to the rainforest when he was a hatchling. Strongheart is an absolute gem, she's the life of the party, even when it isn't a party. These 2 are a perfect match, and Willbreaker usually wears his pink prosthetic horns to match his wife's scales. Epoch hasn't started making his own horns yet so his dad made the one he wears all the time and his claws, which aren't gems to look more natural.

just finished reading fourth wing

#IVE NEVER WANTED TO GOUGE MY BRAIN OUT AND STEP ON IT A BILLION TIMES EVER READING A BOOK MY GODDDDDDDD #it was just so fucking good and i was into it every second of it and i ate that whole book up in two days #staying up until 2am like i didn’t have work before AND 500 PAGES STILL WERENT ENOUGH I WOULDVE READ A THOUSAND #GOOD GODDDDDDD #ive never felt this way abt a book ever and if u told me i’d go this psychotic over a fantasy book i would’ve punched u in the face #i read acotar just before this and i thought it was good but this ….. THIS BOOK MY GOD #all the characters were so well written and the story wasn’t dull and the fantasy part of it was SOOOO GOODDDDD #u really get into the story and it’s not boring and i got invested in these little dragons and just UGHHHHHHHH #i’m gonna have a full psychotic episode by the time the second time is released i wish i could go back to the person i was two days ago #and violet is such a good character feyre in acotar bored me so much i had no connection to her but violet …. she’s my baby #and so is liam he’s so babygirl i love HIMMMM #i don’t even want to talk abt xaden just the thought of him makes me want to rip my hair out and set myself on fire #GOD THIS BOOK WAS SO FUCKING GOOD I WANT MOREEEEEERR #and the ending THE ENDING ????????#OH MY GODDDDDDD #i’m so glad it’s the weekend and i don’t have work tomorrow bc they would’ve locked me up in the psych ward instantly

🖊 - oh the daughter of destiny my dear girl. her blood can be traced back to the time of the great empire of the dawn, as she is the descendant of the bloodstone emperor. the one who in belief was the bringer of the long night. so not absolutely not unas mother (and iovannas mother had foretold of her as well hehe <3) had seen of the birth of the child of prophecy, the eye of blood and the dragon of death, alluding to of course her heterochromia with one eye being a scarlet red matching her dragon ahzidal’s. And ahzidal having a dragons breath that was not of fire.... but a death miasma hence one of his names being the soulsiphon? her birth marked the summoning of the long winter, the death of the dragons.. and her and her descendants bearing the eye of blood will bring either salvation or ruin when the long night arrives.

🖊 - her mother iseul was the descendant of a scarlet emperor of the golden empire, who in the time of the valyrian freehold married a woman of an unknown house (that gives me IDEAS hehe <3 more ocs <3) and this is likely where illy had the natural inclination to be a dragonrider. her mom thwarted court life as long as possible taking to the seas under an assumed identity, which is where she would meet valarr. in seeing a prophecy, the same una and iovannas mothers foresaw, but with a sense it would be him to be the harbringer the father of this daughter of destiny. he uh..... annulled his marriage and left his wife and three children with a fourth on the way to fulfill the prophetic vision. for power or for reverence of prophecy or both who can say. after illy was born on lys, iseul sailed on her ship to vilemyr to the tower of myrwatch. the isle and seat of house ilmestys to hold a wedding for them (they had a wedding in lys but wished for one in westeros as well). UNFOORTUNATELY and much so, assassins attack the ship and she is fatally wounded. the ship is stranded outside of asshai by the shadow, and with her last breath she leaves the girl by the shore. illyria is found by nurellia and keeps a watchful eye on the girl until her mothers sworn protector, irus of norvos, finds the girl as this was her mothers dying wish. illy from there to age four would reside by the shadow. and strangely enough, not a soul bothered the girl! she would be found by irus at the side of her dragon ahzidal who would keep a watchful eye when the girl ventured into the corpse city. and that is how illy's origins began!

🖊 - following her harrowing-ish childhood, she was brought to vilemyr where she would be raised by irus and his wife (and valarr's older sister) vergelle. valarr was not to be revealed as the illy's dad for reasons reserved to be known by valarr alone ig nsakjns. and she was also brought to kings landing when vergelle was requested to teach the princess helaena how to understand dragon dreams (as she and her niece urgelle are both dragon dreamers!). she was childhood friends with aemond! illyria would leave westeros again at age six on the back of ahzidal. it is presumed that she sought out the three eyed raven if there was a three eyed raven that did exist in this time. when she returned to westeros in 129 ac she expected aemond to not remember her at all, and was surprised to learn he never did and in fact asked irus of her all the time when he and vergelle visited. they have been inseparable since. blah blah red string of fate blah blah twin flames and setting the world on fire for each other etc etc <3
