Yoshihiro Togashi Exhibition Osaka Venue x CAFE Lab.

A collaboration between "Yoshihiro Togashi Exhibition -PUZZLE-" with "CAFE Lab." has been announced. A total of 9 dishes and drinks from Togashi's 3 works, "Yu Yu Hakusho", "Level E" and "HUNTER x HUNTER", will be served at the cafe adjacent to the exhibition hall. Customers who order from the collaboration menu will also receive an original coaster at random for each item ordered.

I thought they would keep the same menu from the Tokyo Venue "Pieces Cafe", but it is a brand new one. Let's check the Yu Yu Hakusho food (dish, dessert and drink):

Kurama VS Karasu Beautiful Pasta (comes with "treatment" oil)

Price: 1,650 yen

A pasta that will allow you to enjoy two flavors in one dish. Kurama's side is made of beet cream, and Karasu's side is squid ink (ikasumi). You can also drizzle olive oil to complete the dish.

This dish is inspired by Karasu's line to Kurama, when he asked him if he was treating his hair. It comes with a card of that scene. The optional "treatment" oil is also a joke, it's actually olive oil :P

Yusuke and Keiko's "And So..." Cheesecake

Price: 1,650 yen including tax

Inspired by Yu Yu Hakusho's last chapter, Act 175. "And So…" (Sore kara…), the final scene on the beach was made into a dessert. The orange sauce is like the beach at sunset, with two kinds of cheesecake (Matcha Basque & NY Style), and ice cream of Keiko's "favorite color".

If you guys remember the last chapter of the manga, Yusuke pressed the blue button, because it was Keiko's favorite color.

EH have always had a great commercial relation with our Atlantic neighbors, from the gulf of Biscay, to Portugal, to Atlantic Andalusia. It seems that the trading of Basque iron and Portuguese flax flourished since the early Middle Ages.

Since the 14th century though, after Euskadi becomes a part of the kingdom of Castile, Basques were forced to send men and money to the never-ending wars between Castilians and Portugueses 😩.

While I can't speak for every Basque and experiences may vary, I love Portugal and Portuguese people. It's such a BEAUTIFUL country - luckily I've had the chance to visit many places of it and I still have Azores on my wishlist - and I've always met polite, helpful people.

The fanfiction that holds a special place in your heart

Definitely the fics that were at the beginning of now "big" ships - I was the second person to post a Rakidrić fic on AO3, and the first person to post a Gavi/Pedri fic in there. I like being ahead of the curve, to be kind of "proven right" about certain chemistries being interesting and appealing. And I like the idea that someone thought of Gavi/Pedri fic, searched AO3, and mine was The One fic that was there in their time of need - before others eventually got the balls to write one as well (and now there's almost 350 fics with Gavi/Pedri, which is amazing, since it's a lovely ship). So these two will always be kind of special in this sense. I wrote a bunch of unpopular/rare ships, and I don't strive to write what's popular or what most people would read - I hope that someone might read my fic and think - this makes sense, why didn't I know/think about this pairing; rather than being one of the billions who write about Messi/Ron or Messi/Neymar etc.

I also wrote the first Harry Kane/Pochettino fic, and I'm sad and disappointed there's not more about them! (they deserved it)

Your weirdest fanfiction

In terms of pairing, definitely the Unai/Football one, but I am proud of it and once again - I think it is subtle and it makes sense. Like, it's written in a way that could convince someone to ship them, haha (I hope). I think the weirdest in the sense of story itself it's probably Italian Cuisine. I cringe at the stuff I wrote about Ronaldo/Dybala, because a lot of it was pure PWP with a bit of angst. It was really explicit compared with what I've been writing lately; and it's basically meaningless porn that's not really my style anymore. It feels weird to me now that I was like - oh sure, lets write about Ron fucking Dybala with a cucumber. There's no other meaning, or reason, or any sort of explanation.... It's literally just that. And I think I don't like writing stuff like that anymore.

I wrote a lot of "weird" things in terms of incest, omorashi, piss kink, priest!AU, priest kink, Basque separatism!AU, or even more in the past - Trudeau/Macron PWP lol ... But I think all of these were justified/served the story/served the exploration of the dynamic - but there is just no excuse for the cucumber story, period.

Your spiciest fanfiction

Uuufff, that's difficult to say since I find most of my PWPs from 2018-2019 cringy (and that's when I wrote most of the spicy stuff). Probably Rakidrić's Never knew anyone in love or Three is a charm (Two is not the same) about Kane/Poch/Southgate threesome. And of course, the priest kink with Dalić/Modrić (and it was my first risqué fic, or a fic that I felt like some people might have a problem with), I do like a priest kink hehehehe. Once again I would write it a bit differently and probably more...subtly today? I think I wrote a couple of nice spicy PWP things back in the day, but now I feel like I use smut scarcely, non-explicitly, or as a tool to depict someone's deep desperation and inability to connect/communicate in other way (Lampardverse, Frank/Mason, Scamacca/Paquetá...)

The fanfiction you are the most proud of

Right now, probably The Stands of Villa Park. Ngl, some parts made me emotional, because it made me think of the reasons why ppl love football so much, and how important it is, how it is part of life (I wrote my Master's thesis about something slightly covering this subject, so naturally I am passionate about it) - and it gave me an opportunity to explore all of this in a deeper, visceral manner of someone who would not survive without football, who needs it more than food and drink, and who needs all his senses filled with football, football, and only football.

I'm proud of the whole Lampardverse experience (but it's not my verse wink wink) and its stories because it just makes sense and explains a lot.

I think atmosphere wise, I really like Briefly and We'll Always Have London because of the heavy implications and what is left unsaid - the unrequited feeling in the former, and the relationship breaking up in the latter. I like having that in fics.

The fanfiction you were most hesitant to post

The Grizicest saga. I feel like it was sort of an appetizer before Lampardverse, and a lot of the themes first explored in Grizicest are now being rediscovered in Lampardverse. I actually got one anon hate for the Grizou, Grizou story on my previous blog loooool. Today, I would write it differently, definitely. But the main plot would probably stay mostly the same.

Also, today I wouldn't care at all about someone hating on that story. Look, (wo)man, I feel like writing a story about Unai fucking a football pitch. Or a trophy. Or Scamacca pissing on Paquetá, or Cousin Jamie breeding Franko. What are you going to do about it? As I said in the notes for my last fic, patrolling days are over.

Where have all the tourists gone 😉

Tuesday morning I had planned to go for a gentle ride but I was coughing so much I decided that was probably unwise. Jose did head out to meet the group and about an hour later I headed out for a walk.

It was surreal how much quieter it is now all the tourists have headed home after Easter. It was a glorious morning so I headed around to the port where I picked up Stephen and Willow and we walked back to Riells for coffee. Katharine joined us after she’d finished her morning exercise ritual.

It was lovely sitting in the sun looking out at the ocean and sipping on our coffees - it’s a tough life. I made it home not too long before Jose in time to do some baking before he was home for lunch. He had a good day too, though much tougher than mine 😉

The afternoon was spent watching the Tour of the Basque Country. Early evening we wandered into town for a few bits and pieces before settling in to watch a movie.

Wednesday morning dawned beautiful again. Jose had a morning Executive Committee meeting and I headed out to my Spanish conversation group.

Around midday we met up with Stephen and Katharine for a drink before heading to a restaurant I’ve heard good things about but we’ve never managed to get to.

The restaurant is called Klova i Kava and is very nice with great food. The reason we had never been before is that it is out on the road leaving L’Escala. We would have to cycle to get there, which now that we’ve been we may well do in future.

Stephen dropped us off a bit out of town so we could walk off some of our lunch. When we got home we settled in to watch the Tour of the Basque Country.

This evening we strolled into town for a few errands and then home so Jose could study before a movie.

hi love!! sure, absolutely. I'll answer it publicly in case people also want to know about what to do in buenos aires. okay, i'll try to keep it short. idk how many days you'll be visiting but:

must-sees:

Caminito (this is located in the neighbourhood of La Boca)

Teatro Colón

Avenida Corrientes and surroundings (Corrientes Av. and 9 de Julio would be like our times square lol)

Palermo Soho (this is a neighbourhood that has a lot of clothing stores, cool restaurants and caffes and from thursday to saturday night there's always a good plan waiting for you)

Jardín Botánico (this is in the neighbourhood of palermo which you'll see is divided in different names, Palermo Soho, Palermo Chico, etc etc so it might be confusing at first lol)

Recoleta is another neighbourhood that's nice to walk around, especially the area that's close to the cemetery and Plaza Francia. If you walk through Libertador Av. or Figeroa Alcorta Av. you'll see pretty buildings and museums. Here you can also see 'The Flower' as we call it lol, which is an artistic sculpture that opens its petals by day and it closes them by night.

San Telmo is a must for tourists but as someone who was born and raised in the city i fucking hate this neighbourhood lmfao, it's filled with people. bUT it's cute, you have like a street market where people sell their crafts and you have cute caffes and restaurants.

Puerto Madero is also a nice place to walk around as well

If you have time you can travel by bus to Villa Ocampo, a beautiful house owned by Victoria Ocampo who was a writer.

Tigre is a neighbourhood outside of Capital Federal (as well as Villa Ocampo) and it has a cute outdoor market filled with caffes, restaurants and shops. You can travel there by bus but it's fastest if you take the train.

For Food:

Petanque is a french restaurant, CARNE is good for eating hamburgers and Sagardi is a spanish/basque place. All of them are in San Telmo.

In Palermo Soho you have a shit ton of restaurants/bars so you can truly pick the one that stands out the most but my faves are: 1) Overo Bar 2) Club Eros (you might not give 2 cents for this one bc it might not look so aesthetically pleasing on the outside but my god they have the best milanesas ever) 3) Local Support (it's like THE place for all the indie and sad boys/girls wannabes of the city, the vibes aren't my cup of tea but the pizza is DELICIOUS) 4) Rey de Copas 5) Soria Bar "

Pizzería Güerrin, best pizza ever.

Il Quotidiano is my favorite sort of "mainstream" italian restaurant, the food is incredible and the prices are quite good honestly.

Presidente Bar if you feel fancy

Dadá Bistro for another fancy night but this one is smaller and usually there's also a shit ton of tourists lol. It's one of my favorite places even tho my friends say that it's for older people u.u (what does that say about me lmfao)

For something even more fancy you can enjoy a delicious merienda or dinner in Palacio Duhau

El Mirasol is one of my favorite places to eat asado, it's quite expensive tbh but the food is delicious

i Fresh Market is one of my favorites bar/restaurant in Puerto Madero

Sifón Sodería for a good vermut

Buenos Aires is FILLED with birrerías and my favorite ones are: 1) Patagonia (this one is quite mainstream but the beer is good) 2) Hormiga Negra... and i can't remember more LMFAO, if i remember i'll definitely let you know

Cuervo Café and The Shelter have delicious coffee. Cuervo is in Palermo and The Shelter is in Retiro.

Birkin is another caffe and it's also quite good, you can also have lunch/dinner here

PINTXOS-PERFECT

Believe it or not, there are one or two people out there who aren’t inspired by the idea of San Sebástian. 

The joy of choosing pintxos from the counter ? ‘Health and safety hazard.’ But everything’s fresh! ‘Don’t fancy it’. What about the delicious spider-crab tarts? ‘Don’t like crab’. Gateau Basque? ‘Now I do like cheesecake - but why no biscuit base?’ 

Thankfully I’ve only experienced this pintxos prejudice from a handful of people. For the rest of you: if you don’t yet know that San Sebástian is the culinary capital of Europe, with more Michelin starred restaurants per capita than anywhere else on the continent, then just tell me which rock you’ve been living under and I’ll send my people round. With delicious morsels of wild mushroom. I’m not a monster after all.

Then there are those who love San Sebástian, have visited it several times, but have only the vaguest recommendations of where to eat. Yes I know. Everywhere is good. But just telling me ‘it’s all about the pintxos’ (no shit Sherlock) isn’t really giving me much to go on. So, for those of you venturing to Spain’s most edible city for the first time, or just can’t remember where you ate last time, here are my top recommendations. 

First of all, get yourself on a good food tour. And we went on the best, thanks to a proper, detailed recommendation from my mate Mykayla at work. The first thing you learn about Eskerne, founder of  Discover San Sebastian is that she is more revered than the Mayor- and knows more about the history and gastronomy of the region than any mayor. She met us at the Hotel de Londres at 10.30 sharp and deposited us in the park over four hours later, sated and gasping for superlatives about the food we had eaten. This was a PhD in Pintxos - spider crab tartlets, mind-boggling asian-fusion scallops with samphire, wild mushrooms mixed with egg yolk, octopus on sauteed potato…On and on it went,  setting off many several taste bombs in my mouth. Do yourselves a favour and book her as soon as you have booked your flights. 

But you don’t just have to eat pintxos. My daughter found Bar El Kbzon  near the City’s surfing  beach. For my money the best of San Sebástian’s restaurants: cafe-informal with stunning views of the beach at sunset, and a menu we ended up ordering in its entirety:  best black pudding I’ve ever tasted, heavenly hake and pig’s ear on borlotti beans just three of the reasons to go back. The chef likes Thai food so there were some inspired flavours going on in all of these - plus he makes a mean pad thai if you fancy that. 

Great places to eat are not limited to the city centre. My cousin and her husband took us to Kako Jatetxea, a bistro with classical charm in a town called Astigarraga, just outside the city centre and famous for its cider houses (the main drink of the region along with Txakoli - more of this later). They had a lot going on in their menu but you can’t go wrong with their  surf and turf - a whole pan-fried turbot in a butter sauce and a mammoth rib of beef. 

Want to find that ultimate Gateau Basque? Eskerne  pointed us in the direction of La Viña and advised us to order just a half portion each. The aggressive rubbernecking required to get to the counter and get attention meant I forgot the Spanish for ‘half portion’ and emerged with the full three slices for each of us. It didn’t matter in the end as we demolished them all in a matter of minutes. We also forgot to order the Ximenez sherry to pour over the gateau - Mykayla says this is a must. 

And finally, for super fine dining head to Galerna Jan Edan. I usually prefer generous rustic food to a degustation menu but this one gave us a night to remember: imaginative creations with intense flavours from prawn, pork belly, hake and a strawberry and violet ice cream that over-stimulated my taste buds in the best possible way. All washed down by the region’s signature Txakoli wine (you say Txakoli, I say Chocoli, let’s just pour another glass and forget about it). 

There are hundreds upon hundreds of pintxos bars, restaurants, cafes and gelateria crammed into this petite, beautiful and dramatic-looking city. Don't say I didn't tell you - and try making these dishes to get you in the mood. 

Crab Tarts

I have done my best to recreate the flavours of the version I inhaled in Ganbera pintxos bar. And guaranteed no soggy bottom-pastry. Serves 4 as a starter. 

Ingredients:

250g ready-made shortcrust pastry (or make your own)

3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

225g white crab meat

Generous tbsp. brown crab meat

1 banana shallot, chopped finely

1 carrot, chopped finely

4 cloves garlic, chopped finely

250ml shellfish stock

60 ml cognac

3 medium tomatoes, skinned seeded and chopped

1 tsp chilli flakes

1 bunch parsley

25g fresh breadcrumbs, browned in a little oil and tossed with chopped parsley

Knob of butter

How to make.

Heat the oven to 200C. 

Roll out the pastry and cut 8 rounds to fill 8 individual tart cases. Pop the tins onto a baking sheet and bake blind for 10-12 minutes, remove from the oven and put on the side to cool in their tins. When cool, remove from the tins and place the pastry shells back  on the  baking sheet.

To make the filling. Heat 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil in a frying pan and saute the onions, carrot and chilli flakes for 10 minutes. Add the garlic and fry for another minute or so, then add the tomatoes, salt and pepper, cognac, shellfish stock and 200ml water. Bring to a simmer and continue to simmer until the sauce has reduced and you can drag your wooden spoon through it without the mixture closing up quickly.

Turn off the heat, add the crab meats and a bunch of chopped parsley. Cool the mix. 

Turn up the oven to 220C. Fill each of the tart shells with the crab mixture then top each tart with the breadcrumbs and a small knob of butter. Pop back into the oven for 6-8 minutes until crisp and hot. Serve immediately. 

Two Easy Peasy Pintxos

As a parting gift from our tour, Eskerne gave me a copy of Josema Azpeita an Ritxar Tolosa’s The Pintxo Trail. None of the recipes give proportions so I have done the hard work for you while adapting them slightly. Serves 2-3

Pintxos with cream cheese, honey and walnuts

For each person cut 3 slices of a baguette loaf at a diagonal and toast lightly and rub with a clove of garlic. Cool slightly then top with cream cheese with herbs (philly is fine), top with a couple of walnut halves and drizzle with honey.  Complete with a sprinkling of parsley and season. 

Esclavida (catalan vegetables) with anchovy

Heat the oven to 150C.Baste an  aubergine and a red pepper  in extra virgin olive oil, pop onto a baking tray and into the oven for 20 minutes. Remove and then skin the aubergine and red pepper and cut each into 4 slices. Toast the bread and rub with a clove of garlic. Drizzle the toast with olive oil and season. Place the broad strips of cooked vegetable on top and top with two marinated anchovies (buy these from the supermarket chiller cabinet, don’t use ones from a jar). Make a quick garlic dressing with olive oil, garlic and parsley and drizzle over the top. 

Gateau Basque

This version of La Viña’s classic is from Brat restaurant in London via Claire Ptak’s latest confection Love is a Pink Cake. A genius  addition of tapioca flour and cornflour gives a wonderful texture. Serves 6. 

Ingredients:

450g cream cheese

125g caster sugar

3 large eggs

250g double cream

1 tbsp. Crème fraiche

1 tbsp. Vanilla extract

1 tbsp. Tapioca flour

1 tbsp, cornflour

¼ tsp. Sea salt

How to make:

Preheat the oven to 230C. 

Line a 15cm round and 8cm deep cake tin with a single sheet of baking paper that comes up further than the sides of the tin  - this caters for the dramatic rise of the gateau. 

Whisk together the cream cheese and sugar, add the eggs one at a time and continue whisking between each addition until fully incorporated. 

In a separate bowl, mix together the remaining ingredients, then add to the cheese mixture and mix everything until smooth and well combined. 

Pour the mixture into the prepared tin and bake in the oven for 40 minutes until black on top, puffed but still has a little wobble. Cool for at least an hour until set, then serve at room temperature. 

This goes magically with some poached plums which you can make while the gateau is in the oven.
