(❁´▽`❁) #it's been a very warm autumn in Germany so far so it has not really felt like fall yet #but yesterday it was all rainy and stormy and I had two new books and it was the best day possible to have a slimey cough (: #and now I feel SO much autumn I am close to buying a set of window colors #I do not know what I would to with the window colors I just have this strong urge in me to buy a window color set #the last time I did a window color was at the birtday of a class mate I think she turned 9 and I made a deer #but for some reason we did this craft 5 minutes before we all had to leave so we had to carry our window color deer home wet #unfortunatly for the deer and me I fell down the stairs of her house and smeared the deer all over me and i screamed the entire drive home #which wasn't very long but it probably felt very long for the mother who had a screaming child covered in window color deer inside her car

i have spilled so much ink about gawyn but really i only need 2 passages to explain why he is Like That

1. My blood shed before hers; my life given before hers...That was the oath he had taken when barely tall enough to peer into Elayne's cradle. ... Gareth Bryne had had to explain to him what it meant, but even then he had known he had to keep that oath if he failed at everything else in his life. (LOC prologue)

2. From Morgase, Queen of Andor, to her beloved son, Gawyn. May he be a living sword for his sister and Andor. (ACOS prologue)

like yeah, no wonder he does what he does in AMOL. people will be like "gawyn is so stupid for not thinking about the fact that his death would hurt egwene" as if he's being maliciously stupid and careless, when in fact, he has such little self-worth that he genuinely does not consider himself a valuable human being whose loss would impact anyone or anything. his life given before hers. a living sword. this has been his mindset since toddlerhood and nobody ever noticed it enough to try and counteract it. gawyn is exactly what rand would have been like at the last battle if he hadn't had a mental health intervention.

#SAD ABOUT GAWYN HOURS #god i would die if the show portrayed the oath-swearing onscreen as a flashback cold open. it is THE formative event for his character!! #gawyn trakand #wot #wot book spoilers #gawynposting #gawyn and rand really are foils in so many ways #the way they are objectified and viewed as weapons (by themselves as well as by others) #but gawyn has been raised that way since birth whereas it's a new thing for rand #so rand has childhood friends & family & memories to remind him that he IS a person. gawyn doesn't. #his own mother taught him to view himself as a sword for others' use (but she wasn't being malicious that's just what being a royal is) #and then if you look at some of gawyn's behavior it's SO similar to how rand behaves #what really struck me is during the coup when gawyn shuts down and becomes very cold and emotionless #and min and readers are like 'oh my god he's a sociopath' #but he's actually deeply traumatized and shutting off emotions as a coping mechanism as we've seen rand do COUNTLESS times #but we're in rand's head and we're not in gawyn's so we have more sympathy and understanding for rand #'how can the other characters who don't have the benefit of seeing inside rand's head misinterpret his trauma behavior as assholery?' #well

Also just design notes/general thoughts:

Will saying Normal would dress vintage changed me so here he is in something vintage inspired, thought with the ever present sneakers i draw him in. I feel like he has a pupper shop or something, not quite sure, he is a mascot and local sport teams enthusiast. I should have incorporated more purple in his design to be honest, he does have some in his eyes. I feel like he uses 70s or 80s slang, generally just a word mishmash of generations. And in all his ethearnal years he has still not learnt to cartwheel.

Scary's design is mostly punk/metal/goth inspired, for once i opted for more red than purple, and brown in her hair. I decided to give her octopus eyes as a nod to her doodler connection. They are both older here (i think about mid 20s) so she gets to be even cooler than usual (she is my dress up doll for outfits i wanna wear but would be texture and comfort hell for me).

They are just besties here (sorry to my whatever their ship name is shippers im not a fan of the ship at all), and link taylor, dood and hermie will hopefully be coming shortly. As for plot stuff its good omens inspired with them trying to stop the apocalypse (idk who warlock is here, since dood is adam), its mostly show inspired since i have not yet finshed the book, and idk if plot is even really my concern i just like designing looks for diffrent situations.

the only witness is the Alternate who has no specific role, and she has to figure out who caused it & if they might continue to sabotage, while they're figuring out a way to get back on course with limited resources

flips between present and the past: of her childhood and training for the mission, her identity struggles, and relationship with her mother

questions the ethics of ‘restarting’ humanity elsewhere vs putting resources into fixing earth

#the deep sky #yume kitasei #aroaessidhe 2023 reads #i really loved this!!!!! #very intense but also a lot of interesting character introspection #love the virtual reality AI aspect!!!! though I do feel like. in the end I was expecting it to go way further with it? #(basically like instead of seeing the inside of the ship all the time they can 'be' in forests or aquariums or whatever) #no romance #(there’s side lesbians; and one flashback scene where she briefly wonders about kissing a random person; that's it) #emotional core about her mother and brother and best friend !! #i like that it gets into the flaws of 'humanity's last hope on another planet' bc like. yeah in real life things....don't work like that... #why is there zero acknowledgement that the concept of every one of them being expected to give birth being extremely fucked up? #like obviously everyone on board is there because they agreed with that but there’s not a single flashback of #when they found out that information; or mention of someone questioning it... #(for example a character mentions that they hid their mental health/use of a therapy animal bc they wouldn't have been let in and the - #eugenics around that is iffy to say the least) #but to me. pregnancy is horrifying and nobody questioning that was weird. #also there’s supposedly 80 people on board but we get to know less than 10 of them which felt a bit strange at points #Also! I love the cover. I can’t find the designer (the book info only credits the internal lllustrator..) #also: bird facts!
