Tumgik
#i actually wrote a lot about how i imagined them when i was 11-12
Note
"Suggest how you might resolve the staging difficulties inherent in a production of Ibsen’s Peer Gynt." if you get the reference I'd love you forever, but it's not the question for this week. Here it is: If you could change the way any movie/play/book was made, which one would you change? how?
i don't understand the reference sorry 😔😔😔
at first i was gonna talk about glee or skam españa but i don't want to open that can of worms so i'll talk about memorias de idhún instead hehe
i re-read the whole thing again after being obsessed with it as a preteen last year i think? and i realized the most annoying thing about it was the love triangle, ESPECIALLY in the third book. basically, by the end of the series the love triangle is resolved with a very weird polyamorous relationship, and that's exactly how book 2 ends; book 3 just rehashes the same issues the characters had in that love plot once again and it becomes really tiring. so, i would keep everything the same until book 3, and instead of rehashing everything, i would spend more time developing jack and kirtash's relationship with one another. i just want them to not be mortal enemies basically, i think that would help lol. i actually really enjoy the main plot in that book so i would only change the love triangle stuff. oh and i would explicitely state that they're in a polyamorous relationship, i would really focus on that as well :)

LOOK AWAY IF YOU DON'T WANT SO MUCH FOR (TOUR) DUST SPOILERS, OKAY?
~~~
~~~
~~~
Set list:
(1) That Pink Seashell spoken word thing actually opens the show
(2) Love from the Other Side: I assumed they'd play this first, and they did, and they looked very happy with the reception that it got
(3) The Phoenix
(4) Sugar, We're Goin Down: I overheard two guys when I was leaving saying, "I only came to this show for that Sugar song, and it was the third song they played," whatever to those two guys lol
(5) Uma Thurman
(6) A Litttle Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More Touch Me
(7) Chicago Is So Two Years Ago: I know they always play this song when they play Chicago but the way the show is set up, there's this spoken intro that references a light being left on in Chicago, and then they launch into this song, and so I feel like maybe it's permanently in the set list for this tour, we'll see.
(8) Grand Theft Autumn: Patrick told the story again of how he wrote the lyrics while jogging with Pete. Here is exactly what he said, because I recorded it, hahaha: "I wrote this song out here, jogging, trying to figure out the words. This was back when I wrote a lot of the words. And Pete was jogging with me and he was like, 'Eh, maybe change this, maybe change this.' Before we knew it he was writing all the lyrics." And then Pete said, "Imagine us jogging" lolololol
(9) Calm Before the Storm
(10) This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race: They added a little Peterick-y moment in here? I don't remember them playing at each other during this song in previous performances? It was cute, it was during the instrumental part before Patrick leads the singalong, maybe I've just always missed it? They played it each other and kind of did some kind of kick thing with their legs??
(11) Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes: Honestly, always a delight to hear this song, this is one of my favorites <3
(12) Heaven, Iowa: THIS SONG LIVE, I SWEAR
(13) "The Take Over, the Breaks Over": OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS SONG AND I TOTALLY DIDN'T EXPECT THEM TO PLAY IT, I WAS SO HAPPY
(14) Headfirst Slide into Cooperstown on a Bad Bet: <3 Guess they got over being scared of playing this one lol
(15) Fake Out: I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW EXCITED I WAS THAT THEY PLAYED THIS ONE OMGGGGGGG. Also, there was some plan I wasn't aware of to, like, hold up cell phones with pink paper over the lights so the crowd lit up pink???? I have no idea who engineered that but it was CHARMING and at the end of the song Pete said, "Thanks for that, guys, that was beautiful," and the stage was on darkness so it seemed absolutely spontaneous on his part and I think they really did like the effect, so, Idk, future shows, keep doing it????
(16) Patrick did some kind of piano interlude where he played "Don't Stop Believin'"????? It was random but he was super charming, I think the rest of the band used it as a break, it was just SO GREAT. Part of his intro was: "Pete was putting together this show and he said to me, 'Hey, you should play piano.' And I was like, 'I kinda only play songs I wrote. I don't really play piano. I don't know how to play piano.' And he's like, 'Eh, you'll figure it out.'" And then Patrick sat down and played gorgeous piano ugh THANKS, PETE.
(17) Last of the Real Ones: I am glad Mania got some love.
(18) Save Rock and Roll
(19) PETE RECITED BABY ANNIHILATION WHAT. I SWEAR TO GOD. I SO DID NOT EXPECT THIS AND I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE THAT IT HAPPENED. If you're going to the show, pay attention, because I looked away and apparently there's, like, a magic trick at the end of the monologue where he disappears behind a piece of black silk?????
(20) Crazy Train cover: I...don't know what to say about this randomness hahaha but it happened??
(21) Dance Dance
(22) Hold Me Like a Grudge: I think Patrick adores singing this song, I really do.
(23) G.I.N.A.S.F.S.: I KNOW. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT, EITHER.
(24) My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)
(25) Thnks fr th Mmrs
(26) Centuries
(27) Saturday <3
The show ends with a little piano version of So Much (for) Stardust played over the sound system, so pay attention for that.
The set is super Alice in Wonderland-y and I adored it, it's playful and fantastical and has all these whimsical touches and interludes and I just thought it was delightful and at one point there were bubbles, and I heard some people complaining after the concert that the fantasy thing didn't suit their style of music and really, I was surrounded by downers after the concert, I thought they were perfect hahaha. Like, ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. They looked so, so, so tangibly happy, all of them. Patrick sounded fantastic and he looked like he was having a blast, he smiled the whole time.
I have a lot of videos but they seem like they're all pretty terrible, but I'll see how I feel in the morning lol
865,796 o__o
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Resident Evil exclusively now!
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
[every picture tells a story], 387 kudos
[lantern], 376 kudos
broken machine, 356 kudos
[the quality of mercy], 332 kudos
5. Do you respond to comments?
I do!!! more often than not it's just with some emojis now lol but i relish and treasure every single comment i get
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
oh, this one has yet to be published :) don't worry! <3
7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
hmm... probably Two Cakes (which is coming out this month)? made me feel all sappy at least :]
8. Do you get hate on fics?
not now, but I definitely got some hateful comments on things when i was a lot younger-- mostly people complaining that i was a bad writer or that i should delete (which i did, so they got their wish lol). now if anything i mostly get people who comment on my stuff to kind of pressure me to update XYZ (the nivannedy catboy fic is notorious for this, which is why i haven't been working on it very much lately). the block button is my friend tho <3
9. Do you write smut? If so, which kind?
yeah :)
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest crossover you’ve ever written?
Nope!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
no
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
i think someone wanted to at one point and then never did lol
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
i've talked with some people about this before but we've never gotten around to it :P
14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
i love chreon but there's just SOMETHING about nivannedy---
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
the lethan re7/re8 rewrite. i really want to keep working on them but i just have so much more on my plate that i keep pushing it off, especially when it'll require the research of rewatching playthroughs a few times to reimaging the plot points. maybe one day tho!!
16. What are your writing strengths?
i've been told that my dialog is good which makes me happy because there are a few fics where i'm actually really proud of it :3
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
describing things, especially people! for some reason i always feel like it breaks the flow so i just... am like "there is a man. anyway--" sorry readers but it's your job to imagine him skjfnskdnf
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
i only speak english and i'm also VERY american. i don't personally want to mess around with that because it would be google translate type shit and that's just sad imo :/ so since i don't know enough i will abstain
19. First fandom you wrote for?
pokemon!!!!!!!!! i literally found THE first fic i ever wrote which would have been somewhere between third and fifth grade because i PRINTED IT and DREW PICTURES. it is called The Mysterious Manaphy and makes no sense. i read it aloud to my partner and they howled. yeah, it was just that good
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
listen, i love broken machine, but dualities has seriously taken the cake!!!!!!!!!
thank you for tagging me claire :3 i tag @flurrin @fonulyn and @silvercap!!!
rapid analysis of what some of the descriptions/footnotes possibly mean
Tumblr media
usually i wouldn’t put this on my main account, but since the other blog i would post it on is a little more in-detail on average, i decided why not (i think you know which blog i’m referring to)
so yep! i read some of the footnotes and added some personal analysis as to what some of them could mean. i’m positive the song used in the new DRDT MV will be “bungaku shoujo insane,” based on the similarity of the thumbnail as well as some specific footnotes, so a lot of my analysis will be based on that song and its lyrics
anyways
[1] In this situation, it is better to use full names over nicknames. Exclude our protagonist—he is not "that person." not sure what this means yet. we’ll have to see.
[2] Other examples include Drosophilia melanogaster and E. coli. don’t know if this is intentional, but drosophila is misspelled. (they wrote it as “drosophilia”) either way, both are often used in school experiments in order to develop a further understanding of genetics and genetic material (and how it’s transferred).
[3] From Title 17 of the United States Code. referring to copyright laws in the United States. the reference may be more apparent in the released MV, similarly to some other footnotes—after all, the original “Bungaku Shoujo Insane” video has some moments where they simply show excerpts from famous texts. this may be one of them that’s featured specifically in the DRDT version of the MV
[4] The practice of avoiding the number four; it is most common in East Asia. This superstition arises from the fact that the number four can be read similar to the word "death" in multiple languages. self-explanatory.
[5] As the translation has been intentionally botched in many parts, it should not be considered accurate. this could be a separate author’s note to one of the texts referenced in the MV—we’ll have to see.
[6] (Prayer) no idea but i don’t feel like searching the bible for this one /hj (i think there might be a prayer written in text in the MV though)
[7] Seven is considered an auspicious number in many Western cultures. Let's just skip it. also self-explanatory.
[8] 'Tut, tut, child!' said the Duchess. 'Everything's got a moral, if only you can find it. excerpt from Alice in Wonderland. don’t know how important that’ll be in the future—could be referenced directly in the MV?
[9] no respect for the classics smh hold on let me see if there’s a lyric mocking classic literature-
[10] The Roman numeral for 10 is X. imagine there’s an X with a footnote and it’s just this
[11] I admit to lying. There is no one named OOOOO OOOOO. I am, and always have been, an only child. a lot of theories about this, but regardless of whether or not this statement is true, it could be a reference to diana chiem, arturo’s sister, david himself even (i’ll explain later), etc. either way, this footnote seems to be more about one of the characters in the DRDT cast than anything
[12] "Majority rule" is known to be the fairest method of making decisions for a group. That's why murderers never complained when we voted for them to die. just a random question, but you know what a majority vote is? /ref this may also be a reference to this lyric:
Tumblr media
rough translation + wiki info: to be, or not to be—i have no idea! but let’s decide, with a democratic method!
[13] 正 character that’s often used to represent something that’s “correct,” “right,” or “just,” speaking from experience. additionally, it’s sometimes used as tally marks in a few eastern countries (china, japan, etc)
[14] Hint: word length of 256 Hamlet’s soliloquy, which starts with “to be, or not to be—that is the question,” is exactly 256 words (at least, according to this source). Additionally, this soliloquy is also referenced in one of the lyrics in this song (see [12]—the first line is actually one of the more well-known Japanese translations of “to be or not to be.” additionally, a few lines from the text are actually shown in the MV at that point), so that may be what it’s referring to
[15] “Ignorance is bliss" is an idiom used to say that it is better to remain ignorant about certain harsh truths, in order to avoid causing oneself stress. The expression comes from a 1742 Thomas Gray poem ("Ode on a Distant Prospect of Eton College": "Where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise." might be a stretch, but possibly a reference to this lyric?
Tumblr media
(rough translation: things like the meanings(?) behind art, you’d be happier not knowing)  (note: the word used for “art” here encompasses all types of media, which include dance, writing, etc.)
i feel like this is specifically referring to how it’s better to be ignorant of the meanings behind certain actions and words, than to be aware of the dark implications behind them. this is a stretch though. do what you will with it but i think this is referring to one of the characters and their actions + true meanings behind them *cough* david *cough*
[16] While it was originally intended to serve as a military march, today it is most commonly recognized for it's association with circuses and tomfoolery. the exact song that this footnote refers to is Julius Fučík’s “Entrance of the Gladiators.” This is a song that’s featured in Bungaku Shoujo Insane, and it can be heard in the interludes—in fact, this footnote is what pointed me to Bungaku in the first place
[17] Not a real word. Can't be found in any dictionary. this might be an actual translation footnote of the song, since it’s definitely not unheard of to have words in japanese that don’t have an english translation and/or words that don’t actually exist. whether that’s actually in the lyrics i don’t know but i’ll have to look into it
[18] A/N: soz not very good at drawing flowers lol!!! i find it weird how this one specifically has A/N (author’s note)
[19] A dialogue between two individuals that serves as a discussion of moral and philosophical issues. this is known as a socratic dialogue. not sure how this is important yet
[20] It is considered by many to be outdated, providing little-to-no insight on human nature. unfortunately i don’t know what this is referring to, but it will likely be made clear in the mv. my first thought was actually the enlightenment documents, since a lot of those discuss the inherent nature of humanity and how it’s “regulated” by society and government—but i’ve never heard it being called outdated, so that’s kind of a stretch.
someone said it could be an excerpt from one of Sigmund Freud’s works, which honestly, would make total sense-
Tumblr media
[21] Deriving from the Latin phrase "Et cetera" : meaning "and other (similar) things", "and so forth", or "and the rest (of such things)" : abbreviated to etc., etc, et cet., &c. or &c
also pretty self explanatory. however, i have no idea how this fits in the MV
[22] The rest is silence.
no idea about this one.
anyways if you have suggestions please feel free to reblog with them 🫠 i have no idea what’s going on and tbh 90% of this is me trying to grasp at straws
20 questions for fic writers
Tagged by @hxhhasmysoul, thanks munen for always thinking of me even though I haven't written anything for like... a year.
1. How many works do you have on ao3?
27
2. What’s your total ao3 word count?
153,197
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Hunter x Hunter and Final Fantasy VII (original 1997 game) are the main ones, and then there are a few others that are either old or that time I wrote historical RPF for yuletide.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
(All five are T-rated  Hunter x Hunter fics.)
1)Freecs Adventure Travel Co.- I think this is because it’s tagged ‘slowburn’ and recced on a list with other slowburn fics…  I have this drafted out to the end, it has one more chapter left (and it’s not really a slowburn, aha).  A post canon Killugon reunion fic + Alluka.
2) Paper Ties – This is a short oneshot about Killua/Alluka/Kalluto originally written for a secret santa exchange.  The writing’s just okay, but a lot of people have this bookmarked and I think it’s probably because they like my explanation for why Kalluto knows nen at the start of HxH, but Killua doesn’t.
3) On a Cold and Snowy Night- A Killugon There Was Only One Bed oneshot originally written for a valentine’s day exchange.  I think people just really like this trope.
4) There's a Light That Never Goes Out  - It’s another post canon Killugon reunion fic, this time without Alluka (or she’s mentioned, but offscreen).  Listen, HxH fans love reunion fics!
5) Dungeon x Hunter – a finished multichapter AU where Killua, Gon, Leorio and Kurapika are college friends who play Dungeons and Dragons together.  Inspired by something a friend said forever ago about how Kurapika is like the ultimate DnD rules lawyer min-maxing all his stats.
...Actually except for On a Cold and Snowy Night, what these all have in common is that they’re among the first things I wrote after I rejoined the fandom.  So I think there’s just a network effect here where people are finding them via bookmarks.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I always reply right away, I spend the day after I post anything refreshing my inbox basically.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Either my FFVI Barret backstory fic Corel Days or the one I wrote for FFVII Halloween with prompt: Annihilation.  Those both had the Major Character Death tag on them and like… no one clicks on them.  Haha.  They’re sad because of the character death but also sad because they’re about climate change and fans just aren’t generally here for that level of downer.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Most of my fics end either happily or ambiguously besides those two, but I’d call Dungeon x Hunter my most “nothing bad happened” story where there’s not really much conflict, and when there is conflict it’s resolved quickly.
8. Do you get hate on fic?
Never, and I don’t really get spam comments either… maybe once or twice I’ve gotten requests to write a particular pairing but like 99% of the comments I get are really lovely positive ones from other writers.
9. Do you write smut?
 I haven’t because I’m lazy and smut is hard to write….There’s a fade to black sex scene in my Frederick the Great Space AU and actually, an implied sex scene in my forever ago Libertines AU where Carl Barat turns into a cat, but that’s the closest I’ve ever come.  Most of what I write is rated T.
10. Do you write crossovers?
I have written crossovers!   It was a long time ago, and they were mostly short what-ifs, like, what if Arthur Dent met Light Yagami?   I think it’s more fun to imagine the crossovers in your head than to actually write them, they don’t usually have plots but it’s fun to imagine how the characters would interact.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don’t think so?  I’m not really that popular.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Actually yes, I think?   Someone translated a Death Note fic a long time ago.  It’s not on Ao3 though.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes, actually!  My Libertines AU where Carl Barat turns into a cat was co-written by the lovely 0_clay_0 who was my favorite writer in the fandom at the time.   So that was pretty great.  She lives in Germany and I went to visit her once, any of you guys out there wondering what the appeal of writing RPF is, it’s that you can meet amazing people who live all around the world if you’re both really passionate about the same thing.
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
Probably Killugon, but I’m getting nostalgic for the Pete/Carl fic as I write this post, haha.  I think the writing in that fandom (Libertiens RPF) was the best of any fandom I’ve ever been in, by a long shot…  Ranma/Akane (Ranma ½) also has a strong nostalgic pull for me.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but probably won’t?
I’m gonna finish Freecs Adventure Travel Co, I swear!!!!!   That’s my only posted (to AO3) WIP… most of what I post are oneshots because I know my own limits.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Varying my sentence lengths.   Also filling in backstory and gaps in the canon, and writing 'densely' so there's multiple ideas per paragraph.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Anything that requires effort: plotting, dialog, action scenes, sex scenes… Most of what I write doesn’t require me to think that hard about what I’m doing.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
If it was in-character I would do it.  There’s a certain kind of reader that would enjoy the challenge of having to look up the translation, some people like it when you make them make an effort.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
It was Naruto... now THAT is a WIP I’m never going to finish LOL.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
I’ve said this before, but it’s my Pariging Coffee Shop AU.   I like how Ging’s character came out, he’s not really the same Ging from canon but it works.  And it’s kinda funny?  I’m always writing close to canon but I like reading AUs more, so I'm happy I finally wrote one that's fun for me to re-read.
I'm supposed to tag 20 people for this... here goes! @fury-brand @rosemochi @cateringisalie @nautilusopus @voidcat-senket @recents @ladycrescentvenus @mysterypond @dimensionten @clood @cafeaulater @storybookprincess @dodici12 @cocoa-bop @rabbitprint @kiwizoom @autumnxsunflower @ishouldgetatumbler @fireolin @minimoonstar
FANFIC TAGGING GAME
I got (honorable) tagged by the wonderful @theartofdreaming1- thanks!
1. How many works do you have on AO3? - 321
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
1,322,068 words (at the moment)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Still writing for The Flash, but every once in a while a new show/movie grabs my fancy and I write a few fics for that.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
An unimpressive bunch but here goes: Muse (456), Replacement Scrunchie (393), Fallen Star (357), Inconvenient Inspiration (343), and Drabbles (277). Muse is a handful of one-shots based solely off spoilers before I saw the eps they were for. Replacement Scrunchie is my sole fic for the TATBILB fandom about Peter & LJ's first date (which was way less impressive than what the sequel movie gave us, WOW). Fallen Star is my most popular westallen fic to date, so that one's actually not too surprising. But both Inconvenient Inspiration and Drabbles are requested (the latter) and spontaneous (the former) brainstorming ficlets and snippets for The Flash/WA. Bo-ring.
5. Do you respond to comments?
Eventually.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Oh, gosh, I have so many unfinished fics that it's hard to remember the complete ones that I finished that didn't end so happy, of which there aren't many. Maybe...Breaking Point though.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
All the others have happy endings. Go read them. Lol.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
When I wrote for another fandom I did, but not really in The Flash fandom, which is nice.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yep. And uh...descriptive, I guess? I'm def not the best out there, but I do my best and for the most part smut-lovers seem to enjoy.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I've attempted a couple crossovers, but I haven't completed any or gotten far with them, usually because there wasn't an audience for it.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yeah, I discovered a whole bunch on another website years ago.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
In the process of it!
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
Stuck on Westallen atm, but I used to write Chair, and I was highly obsessed with them as well.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Oh god, I have SO MANY WIPs. One that I really want to finish but fear I won't though has got to be He's MY Barry Allen. I'm just stuck on what the next chapter will look like, and as of yet no one has come forward with a solution. Lol. The Problem is Tony Woodward is another one like that.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I'd like to think I can hook people into my fics fairly well and drop enough cliffies to keep them coming back for more. But ofc the smut helps too. Most of my fics include at least some smut, even a single scene.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Sometimes I have trouble making a chapter (or a scene for that matter) all that long. I've seen people write like 10k+ for a chap, and unless I'm crazy inspired, roughly 1-3k is what you're getting.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I actually dabbled in this a little bit for a westallen fic where Iris was learning Italian, I think? I did some research and managed to sift in enough for that one-shot, but I can't imagine I'd do it repeatedly or for a multi-chap.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
I believe it was the STAR WARS prequels, but it might've been The Day After Tomorrow.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
It's unfinished, but there's so much untapped potential in my Flashpoint fic. Lots of world-building that's present as it rides the line between canon divergent and AU. Hopefully one day I'll get back to it.
...
As much as I'd love to tag a bunch of people, I can't recall anyone who still writes fic that I follow on here, so I'll just shout out my bestie @simplylove101 who is prob done with writing but may want to answer these questions either way!
20 questions for writers
Thanks for the tag @capybaraonabicycle, this was really fun!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
24!
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
116,345
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Mainly Doctor Who, but I write for a lot of fandoms :
Doctor Who (8) Engrenages (2) One Day at a Time (2) Kaamelott (2) ER (2) Stranger Things (2) The Wheel of Time (1) The Marvelous Mrs Maisel (1) Grace and Frankie (1) (this one is a crossover tho) Spellslinger (1) Big Little Lies (1) Les combattantes (1) Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (1) (also a crossover) HPI (1) (the counterpart to the G&F crossover)
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
My extended fam : a multi-companion DW story that focuses on the companions staying on Earth and how they all deal with alien invasions and other wibbly-wobbly stuffs when the Doctor isn't around.
Ways to Heal : my current work in progress ! It's set after season 13 and deals with the aftermath of it, and more generally with all the various traumas all the companions have suffered while and after travelling with the Doctor.
Who am I if I don't have what it takes : a Stranger Things one-shot dealing with El's trauma and especially her trauma after season 4 and what happened to Max.
Night conversation : a One Day at a Time one-shot dealing with Elena's reaction to her father not accepting her sexuality.
Day two : You. Me. Handcuffs : a very short one-shot I wrote for a DW fanfic challenge. It's about Donna and the Doctor, and River.
5. Do you respond to comments?
Always !! Sometimes it's quite short, or late, or in private but I always try to answer, because I love to have conversations about what I write and what it means to people <3
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I honestly don't know tbh, because I'm very much a hurt/comfort kind of girl, and I always try to end on, at least, a hopeful note.
That being said, it's definitely Misunderstood! it's probably the only full-angst fic I've ever written but I was in my feels after WOT 207 and I wrote it through my tears (literally) 😭I think my no beta tag sums up pretty well my feelings 😬
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I think it's probably Remonter la pente. I'm still quite proud of this story, it's 6 chapters of healing and talking and processing traumas and I ended it on quite a high note, so yeah, I really like it!
8. Do you get hate on fics?
No, never! I sometimes have people who comment what part of the story or characterisation they don't really agree on but it's always nice and more conversational than anything ☺
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
No, and I cringe at the mere thought of it ^^
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I do and I love it ! That's actually how I started to write fanfictions, and my first ever posted fanfiction was a DW and CAOS fanfiction.
I don't know what counts as a "crazy" crossover but the most unexpected must be Waiting on a miracle! It took a lot of liberties and interpretations on my part to imagine a situation where Morgane from HPI and Grace from Grace & Frankie could meet but I like what I came up with and it was really fun to write.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I don't think so either!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope! I've wanted to, and sometimes I started planning it with friends but it never went further than that because *gestures at life in general*
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
Well, I think it's the Doctor and River! They're certainly the ones I've written the most for ^^ Then they're followed by the Ponds, Guenièvre and Arthur from Kaamelott and Joyce and Hopper from Stranger Things. But tbh, I don't write that many "shippy" fanfics? I write a loooot of found family stuffs so ships aren't what I focus on the most, or at least, I focus on them more as a part of (found) family dynamics, you know?
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Well, I don't have that many unfinished posted wips, I tend to not post my unfinished works, or not to post until I'm sure I'm committed to finish it. I guess I'd like to add chapters and one-shots to The path of funny stories because we greatly lack fanfictions for the Spellslinger series but it's quite hard for me to write fanfictions for books, so I don't know if I'll ever get around to it ^^
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think dialogues and chracterisation? That's what I get complimented the most for in the comments at least! I also know I write stories with a big cast quite well, or so I've been told ^^ Which tracks, because dialogues, characterisation and interactions between people is what I like writing the most, and what I pay the most attention to!
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Descriptions!! It's directly correlated to my love of writing dialogues but I know I'm not very good and I struggle a lot with establishing scenes, descrbing the surroundings and what the characters are doing besides just talking. I try to pay attention to it and to work on my description and tone skills but I doesn't come as easy.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
It's hard!! I've only ever done it for my One Day at a Time fanfics but, besides my lack of confidence in Spanish at the time, I find it really hard to make it feel natural and to make the scene flow when switching between languages.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Chilling adventures of Sabrina !
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
That's haaaaard! How am I supposed to choose between my babies like that?
I have a soft spot for My Extended Fam because it was my longest fanfic for a while, and I absolutely adored writing it. I grew a lot as a writer while writing it and it's still one of my most beloved fanfic, which makes me really happy and proud.
Remonter la pente is also one of my favourite, because I think it's one of the first fanfic for which I really felt like a part of a fandom community and like I truly shared the stories with people, especially thanks to @moon-arts02- who wonderfully illustrated every chapter 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I'll tag some of my writer mutuals but absolutely 0 pressures, this was just a lot of fun to do, and I loved the retrospective it made me do through my writing :
@bourbon-ontherocks, @hemerae-ramblings, @everybodyknows-everybodydies, @bwayfan25, @thehappyegg, @saecookie, @imdefyingmavity, @cecret-with-a-c
thing i write about brain and reality and unawareness, etc. - is very messy words just ramble. also mention phobia of things like bugs but think bugs is good to exist, just brain have bad paranoid thoughts from them.
very disjointed, hope make sense to someone 🤷🏻‍♂️:
reality distortion... ??
i don't "see" or "hear" things, just get so confused between what things i "see/hear" inside my head and what happens outside my head. like the wall that is supposed to separate the two is mesh instead of brick. i react outwardly to things that i only realise afterwards happen inside my head. (only realise AT ALL from other people look at me funny for laugh or make a noise or gesture or movement. before when have speech, even mouth scripts or say words. even sign language to thin air).
at home in my room there is not even the mesh filter there... because nobody else to give me a baseline for "normal" / "reality".
i have low awareness of my surroundings and would get often in danger from it (if i left the house). sometimes "wake up" and i just stand at some point between bedroom and bathroom and don't know or remember going there. almost relief that i can't leave house or go downstairs.
forget other people exist... sometimes forget i am real or don't feel real or don't know if i "make someone up" in my head, have to check phone contacts or social media or try to think of actual real people to compare. same with "make events up", but no way to really check that... except if it happen outside house then know afterwards is not happen in last 5 ish years at least. but things in past - memory is warped, cannot trust own brain for memory most of the time.
sometimes VERY paranoid about cameras and people watching. not as bad now homebound, but so so bad before when leave house for walks and school and especially with be alone in school, anyone could be watching!
see "bugs" out of corners of eye a lot, make full startle response and jump and heart race. imagine bugs crawl in orifices, get paranoid what if they are already inside me and try to get out and have to search body and touch to make sure. after there is ACTUAL bug or spider in room, have to check EVERYTHING, shoes clothes bottles drawers bedsheets. nothing feel clean all feel contaminated always imagine bugs go inside me. (this happen for long long time, long as i can remember but get worse with time i think).
when have moments of clarity can write things like this... is so important because next time this happen bad will search for words and not be able to find or explain to own brain. maybe not even remember i write this but maybe make a difference.
wrote this whole thing with brain think i am in ambulance?? and is like two different reality happen same time. sometimes i am just NOT HERE. like two places at once, one place in brain and one place physical. and both feel just as real 🤷🏻‍♂️.
often this "two places at once" thing happen really vivid with memories. and cannot even remember real age or year or order of life events. often think i am 6 or 8 or 11 or 12 or anything not 18. most often brain feel stuck at 10-12 ish age.
don't know where my mind ends and the real world starts
sometimes like another person talk to me in my head, say nice things and soothe and calm and help. give instructions on how to do a task or calm down or tell me to take it one step at a time. (used to think this was just my own thoughts, but now is definitely feel different somehow. like better words and grammar than me and more proper put together and slow and calm and even "sound" like different voice to mine, when "read aloud" in head. like is older girl/woman [maybe?] talk to me and help. and really feel like Not Me. but cannot find way to explain that).
she call me "good boy" even before i come out and know i am transsexual for sure. and say "well done" and use words and phrases i don't even think i KNOW, i learn words for this "person" sometimes. is so weird cannot explain. but is nice and help me. not afraid of it/her/whatever this is. used to talk me through tasks like toilet and shower sometimes. or just feel presence, or help "take control" of body and walk to quiet safe place at school. feel like is main reason i survive through school especially late primary early secondary.
sometimes find myself already outside bathroom door, didn't even know i need to go, but when i try i do have to and is main reason i avoid accidents when this happen. and feel like someone/something else just "take control" but in helpful nice way.
sometimes really feel like someone else is in my head too. or more than one.
maybe some things can be explain by "reflex" or "poor awareness" or "bad memory, just forget". but with how many examples i have from just "wake up" in place i don't remember go there... how many times i know i cannot do a thing and then suddenly find few hours later it is finished and only have vague "dream" memory of do it...
imaginations is stronger than memories.
Fic Tag Game
Thanks for tagging me, @veloursdor!!! That is an interesting one! 😘
So, let's see...
How many works do you have on ao3?
9 at the moment, with one idea in a draft folder -- no idea, if and when I will post it.
2. What's your ao3 word count?
oh gosh, I need a calculator... 246.827, holy shit...
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Star Wars -- Obikin, definitely my OTP 😍😍😍 When I was younger, I wrote for Harry Potter (years ago!) and Sherlock
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
1 Heal with 590 kudos... definitely my most popular work so far. Thank again to everyone reading it and leving kudos/comments. I love you guys. Oh, in this story, Obi-Wan can't leave Anakin behind after their duel in Episode 6 of Kenobi and gets to helping him out of that suit!
2 Missing with 397 kudos in which Anakin got amnesia and flirty heavily with Obi-Wan after Rako Hardeen incident.
3 What you wish for with 334 kudos in which Obi-Wan touches a Sith holocron and develops some (for Anakin, sexy) Sith-qualities 😉
4 There is passion with 306 kudos, some sex-spice makes Obi-Wan hot for Ani...
5 Krayt's son with 253 kudos, in which Anakin is raised a Sith and meets Jedi Obi-Wan
5. Do you respond to comments?
yes, yes, I always do! I love your comments and the chats that sometimes come with them!
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
My fics tend to have a happy ending... I want fluff and happy in my imagination. Life is shitty and hard enough some times...
7. What's the fic your write with the happiest ending?
Mh, all have a happy ending actually. But I think Building Dreams was really fluffy!
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Just for one fic; There is passion. One person once bitched about it being Obikin, accusing it of being incest.
Luckily, nearly all other replies are very nice. I love you all fic readers and comment-writers! 😍😍😍
9. Do you write smut? What kind?
I do, not in all fics, though. It's Obikin smut. Mostly not too kinky, but I feel I should venture into that field more often...
10. Do you write cross-overs?
No.🤗
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I am aware of!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Also no. I could translate them on my own, though, but English is more common among readers than my mother tongue.
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
Not with Star Wars. I've done that once, years ago with a Harry Potter fic.
14. What's your all time favourite ship?
Obikin 😍😍😍
15. What's your WIP you like to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Well, my longest WIP (and also oldest) is What you wish for, but I do hope I will finish it eventually!
16. What are your writing strength?
Oh, I don't know... maybe the readers could tell me, what they like the most? For me it's hard to find time to write, so whenever I am in the mood, I can write pretty much in one sitting, but often, it's hard and it takes hours to finish a page.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Write short sentences. I tend to make them too long and too complicated -- my mother tongue is to blame!
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Oh, difficult question. It makes it hard to follow and I find it not very elegant to have translations in the notes below. I find it cool though, if you have one part of the dialogue in, say, Huttese, and the other part in basic (English). That way, you can guess the meaning. So, yeah, for Huttese or Mando'a, I like that for half a dialogue. I don't like it much, when I have to scroll down all the way to see translation to know what's going on.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Harry Potter -- many, many years ago
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
Mh, I do love Heal, because I find it fascinating to explore Vader and the suit. But I also loved Tempestas -- in which Anakin (19) traveled back in time to meet Padawan Obi-Wan (25), lots of trouble!
21. What fic would you love to rewrite some day?
Thank you @wibzenadarksiderwithasoftheart for making up this great question and letting me use it, too ❤
Definetely There is Passion. I love the concept, the whole fic was born from the idea "if you ever had sex with a force sensitive, you simply cannot settle for any non sensitive person", which is really problematic for Ani to enjoy his time with Padmé after Obi... It was only my second fic and I got intimidated by criticism of it containing non-con elements. Now, I would be more confident with the whole topic and hope, I will come back to it some time and rewrite it.
Thank you so much for tagging me, I loved that!!!!
So, no idea: everyone who wants to do this and hasn't already, please be free. You are hereby tagged!
Aaaaaaaaand I am tagging people who liked this 😁 @grapenehifics @underacalicosky @wibzenadarksiderwithasoftheart @mischievouschan4
20 Questions for Fic Writers
Thank you for the tags @rowanisawriter and @nirikeehan
1. how many works do you have on ao3?
32
2. what’s your total ao3 word count?
359,445 (since February lawdy)
3. what fandoms do you write for?
Only Dragon Age
4. what are your top five fics by kudos?
In the Shattering of Things (Cullen x Rose Trevelyan, Hawke x Trevelyan long fic)
The Boy Who Talked too Much (Alistair x Cousland fluff smut one shot)
Some Kind of Witchcraft (Cullen x Rose Trevelyan fluff smut one shot)
The Protestations of the Commander's Bed (Cullen x Rose Trevelyan fluff smut one shot... sensing a theme here? LMAO)
Unvarnished (Blackwall x Rose Trevelyan Smuuuut)
5. do you respond to comments?
Yes, always! Someone is going to take the time say something nice about my writing? I'm going to like awkwardly hug them with words.
6. what’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Probably toss up between
Fractures (Cullen x Rose Trevelyan whump smut)
and
Well Did You Miss Me? (Hawke x Rose Trevelyan angst)
7. what’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Oh this is tough. I end a lot of short fics on a very hopeful note where two people are teetering on the precipice of Looooooove.
But actually maybe a short Bethany Hawke drabble where she learns her brother Garrett is still alive in the Fade.
Contact
8. do you get hate on fics?
The closest I've gotten to hate, which wasn't really hate, just kind of funny is a few different commenters messaging me after I introduced Hawke in my long fic (the other clearly labeled Love Interest, 250k words in mind you) asking whether it was going to be Cullen in the end because they aren't interested in Hawke x Trevelyan and they don't want to read it unless it's Cullen in the end.
9. do you write smut? if so, what kind?
Yes. I try to write really characterful, joyful/emotional smuts generally-- the kind where it's just 'totally THEM'. I think smut is only as good as the set up and characters expressing themselves, because clinical/gratuitous descriptions of sex acts without those things doesn't interest me.
10. do you write crossovers? what’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Nope!
11. have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge
12. have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope
13. have you ever co-written a fic before?
I have not but I would loooove to!
14. what’s your all-time favorite ship?
God I can't risk showing my whole ass here because a bunch of long fic readers follow me but suffice to say the race for my love is real tight between the two separate ships in my long fic - Rose Trevelyan x Cullen and Rose Trevelyan x Garrett Hawke.
Also Dick Grayson x Barbara Gordon in DC 😍
15. what’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Probably The Bequest which is my oc/oc/oc/oc/oc/oc spooky murder mystery fic. I want to believe I will but I would have to learn how to write a damn good mystery and I'm not sure I can. But will at least write some more chapters minimum!
16. what are your writing strengths?
-- snappy, authentic sounding dialogue and banter that captures the characters
-- joyful, ridiculous smut
-- setting descriptions when I really put my back into it
-- being inside a character's POV and capturing their narrative voice uniquely
17. what are your writing weaknesses?
PLOT. GAH. I only got into Fanfic in January and that's because I languished in Original Fiction Hell for two decades where I wrote and wrote aimlessly. I am a shit plotter and a shit planner. Stories come to me in scenes and feelings. So you can imagine that getting to write something that is fully plotted and world built for me is like THE BEST FUCKING THING EVER. It is so satisfying.
18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I have written in French a little bit for effect in the Winter Palace, but generally I don't do it, no.
19. first fandom you wrote for?
I wrote a sequel to the book The Witch of Blackbird Pond when I was thirteen maybe because the main ship gets together in the last pages and then it just ENDS and it was written in the 50s and the author was dead. I HAD TO RESOLVE THIS FOR MYSELF.
20. favorite fic you’ve ever written?
Aside from my long fic which is my ongoing baby and I am very proud (I am in the midst of Act 2 and still loving it), it would probably be --
The Commander, the Tevinter and a Bottle of Lightning which is Dorian getting Cullen drunk on fussy Tevinter booze and Rose showing up after he's sauced. (Fluff, Cullen POV)
or
Good Old Garbolg which is Rose and Hawke getting into the storage room to try a bottle of mystery booze (one of the Bottles of Thedas) and it having some unexpected consequences (Fluffsmut, Rose POV)
I have read both of these A LOT.
Tagging @crackinglamb, @greypetrel, @bluewren, @kiastirling, @melisusthewee, @rakshadow, @ar-lath-ma-cully, @ir0n-angel, @smutnug, @monocytogenes, @skyeventide and @ammoniteflesh
fic writer interview
I was tagged by a few lovely people, thank you! 💖
(I have two ao3 accounts - one for shameless and one for star wars but I’m just gonna answer for Gallavich because I don’t use the other account anymore and I’m not involved in that fandom anymore either.)
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
63
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
155,455
3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Extraction // Time Slip // Date Night // History Lesson // Bed Shopping
This surprises me because I assumed Roleplaying would be in the top 5 but it just missed out by a few kudos.
4. Do you respond to comments?
Yes! I always try to. I really really appreciate comments and I always read them all. Sometimes I even go back and reread some of the ones that really meant a lot to me. 💖
5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Maybe chapter 28 of ‘31 ways we never meet’ - Time Travel. It’s kinda open ended so there’s a suggestion things might not be ok. But generally, I’m not great with writing angst, although I love reading it.
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
Most of them! 😅
7. Do you write crossovers?
No. I’ve only ever been tempted to once and it was a Schitt’s Creek crossover where David and Patrick move to the West Side of Chicago and are neighbours to Ian and Mickey. Lots of miscommunication which leads to David and Patrick not realising that the grumpy, scary guy is actually gay and married to the friendly, hot redhead they keep meeting around the complex.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
No.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I wish I could but it’s just not good when I’ve tried in my drafts so I don’t.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
No.
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes - Camping 💖
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
@arrowflier and I wrote a back-and-forth/round robin type story about Ian and Mickey house-hunting. That was lots of fun. (Annoyingly, tumblr search is so bad that I can’t find the posts on my blog😩)
13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
Gallavich. Never loved a ship this much or felt so inspired by one.
14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Time Slip - I know I’m not gonna finish that (so if anyone wants to take it on, please do feel free!). I want to finish At Liberty as I got further with that and had more of a story in mind but I’m not sure I will.
15. What are your writing strengths?
Dialogue. I feel most confident about my dialogue and I get a lot of positive feedback about it.
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
Action/descriptions - I struggle to write what I can imagine in my mind.
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I like when other people do it. I only speak English so I wouldn’t feel confident enough to do it or trust an online translator to come up with something accurate.
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Star Wars
19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?
Ian and Mandy friendship - something post-canon where Mandy comes back to Chicago and finds herself struggling with a little bit of unrequited love towards Ian and a little bit of jealousy towards Mickey.
20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
It changes. At the moment, I think it’s probably Strange Tales From The Southside. Because they’re spooky and a little bit different from what I usually write.
——
This was fun! Tagging anyone who wants to play! And I mean anyone, if you’re a writer and you want to do this - consider this your invitation! 💖
Fic Writers Interview
Thanks for the tag @energievie!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?  4, plus my masquerade fic so officially 5
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
About 70,000. One of my works is shared, plus keeping the math vague because of masquerade :)
3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Battlefield Chicago
Weed Dreams are made of this
Offices, Onions, and Optimisim
Just Gallavich Things Not listing the other one or where it fits in this list because masquerade, of course
4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Absolutely. I try to respond to every comment I get, because I appreciate anybody that takes the time to read my work and respond to it!
5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
None. I don't do angsty endings, at least not yet!
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
Well, only one of the ones I can talk about is actually a completed work, so.... Offices, Onions, and Optimism it is!
7. Do you write crossovers?
Nah
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
No yet, which I'm super grateful for. The comments others have been getting lately are horrible.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Pleading the 5th (I know I'm not American, I'm doing it anyway)
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not that I know of
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
nope
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes! Weed Dreams is co-written with @jrooc
13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
Gallavich, of course
14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
oh, I have a bunch of unpublished WIPS, so one of them most likely
15. What are your writing strengths?
Comedy, and the ability to tell a story without a lot of dialogue
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
Scene description. Where are they? Who knows! Let your imagination decide what each space looks like
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Hmmm. It can serve a purpose in the right situation. I don't think I would do it without consulting with someone who speaks the language.
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Ok. Well... published, it's Gallavich. If we are talking about stuff I wrote just for personal enjoyment, my very first foray many, many years ago was in adding to Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar book series.
19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?
Not sure there is anything else right now - no room in my brain for anything else
20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written
Ok, well I love Battlefield Chicago, even on the days when it's a slog to get the next chapter finished. But Weed Dreams just makes me laugh, so probably that one.
tagging some people to join in! @jrooc, @juliakayyy, @notherenewjersey, @ms-moonlight-inn, @depressedstressedlemonzest, @deathclassic, @palepinkgoat
20 questions for fic writers
tagged by @astromechs thank youuu <3
1. How many works do you have on ao3?
12
2.  What's your total AO3 word count?
My statistics page says 63,964. HOWEVER, I think that includes the 7 old fics I put in a private collection last year because I can't stand the thought of anyone reading them, so I'm not sure what the actual number is.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Rogue One, going on 6 years now!
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
you know what they say about absence
The Sweater
to break open a heart
that you're there for me
let me be the one
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
In theory yes, I always like to, but I tend to forget until it's too late and it would be weird lol
(If you left a comment of chapter 2 of the sweater I'm sorry! I swear I meant to answer them and I love you but now I feel like it's been too long and I feel terrible)
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
This isn't even a question lmao. (gone, i'm gone)
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
This is harder, except for the one notable exception I think I write mostly happy endings. But maybe The Sweater? I think it's just overall the happiest.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I haven't yet (but if you hate me now's your chance! I constantly crave attention of literally any kind so please send me hate!)
9. Do you write smut. If so, what kind?
I do write it, I don't post it. It's clumsy, it's unrealistic, and it's significantly kinkier that whatever you're imagining.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Not usually, but I guess there is the Rogue One/Doctor Who crossover I wrote a while back. I've actually been thinking of giving that one an overhaul and an expansion and re-posting it sometime, I have a lot of thoughts about it.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not so far as I know.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
I haven't, and I'm not sure I'm quick enough as a writer to do it, but I kinda want to. Sounds like fun.
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
I should hope that that's rather obvious by now lol
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
That Hadestown AU tbh, I think about it ALL THE TIME but the words just do not come 😭
16. What are your writing strengths?
Besties I don't know 😭😭😭
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Plot is hard, action is hard, romantic attraction is hard.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Probably not unless it's a language I'm fluent in, and even then I don't know.
19. First Fandom you wrote for?
Star Wars lol. I started writing awful Han/Leia fic at recess when I was 11 and I haven't stopped writing SW since.
20. Favorite fic you've ever written?
I don't know if I can pick an all time favourite, but do I have a particular fondness for you know what they say about absence. It's been almost three years and I'm still pleased with how it came together.
Okay, cute! Tagged by @batrachised! Thanks so much for thinking of me, you’re the actual best!
1-How many works do you have on AO3?
Aw, man. Not a single one. I’m on fanfiction.net, because I feel like it’s the best spot to find fellowship with other likeminded or book-based Montgomery readers. (At least for the Anne series.)
2-What's your total AO3 word count?    Not a lot! I’ve written four weency sketches that don’t actually even count fully as stories, because there’s scarcely any plot, only niceties and overall sweetness. My word count is something around 6.7K, which is piteous, following batrachised!
3-What fandoms do you write for?    Lucy Maud Montgomery. I’ve done a lot of Anne, and little of Emily.
4-What are your top 5 fics by kudos?    I haven’t even written five! I’m probably unqualified for this whole list of questions. Is a kudo interchangeable with a follow? My most followed is the Smugglers Jug.
5-Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?    Yes, of course! If anyone has a fanfiction.net account, and they left me a comment, I’ve responded over private message, which is the vehicle that ff.net allows for such correspondence. It never feels like enough, though! In a perfect world, I’d be able to take you out for coffee or tea, as a way of saying thanks. Comments or reviews mean so much.
6-What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Angst? I don’t know her.
7-What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Sincerely all of them. Anne and Gilbert are happy in canon, and all I even do are canon expansion/inserts.
8-Do you get hate on fics?
Mercifully, no. I’d probably cry. I can’t imagine what inspires people to leave hateful comments. It’s fan fiction! It’s supposed to be fun!
9-Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Please, I’m blushing. I’m actually writing something right now (when I say ‘right now,’ I just mean that it’s a Word document I’ve glanced at in the last six weeks) that I’ll have to label as M! But it’s not all that explicit, and it’s really just something seen by a third party. And anyway, we’ll see if I can ever summon the courage needed to post it.
10-Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Not yet, sorry!
11-Have you ever had a fic stolen?     I don’t think so! Small potatoes.
12-Have you ever had a fic translated?    One time someone asked me if they could "podfic" one of my works, but this is the closest I’ve ever gotten to such a thing.
13-Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
I didn’t even know that was a thing! I love it.
14-What's your all-time favourite ship?
Walter/Una? Walters parents, too.
15-What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I mean… speaking of crossovers! I have about 2K words done of an Ingleside/the Alienist (they exist is the same time period, and only 1200 KM apart; in my brain this is totally feasible) crossover that sees an awful murderer land in Glen St. Mary, and Doctor Blythe being relied upon by Doctor Kreizler for professional assistance throughout. I might have the time to complete this when I’m 85.
16-What are your writing strengths?
I think it’s a strength that I always want to be writing, isn’t it?
17-What are your writing weaknesses?
I can’t stop writing run-on sentences. Like… think an entire paragraph that’s one sentence. I’m wholly aware that I do it. But I still can’t stop. I’m out of control, really. In other places, while it’s true I always want to be writing, I also can’t write unless I have the right pen the exact environment and circumstances that I feel are conducive to my best writing. (A desk, my favourite lappy, an empty house, pink noise, and a coffee.) If one small thing is off, I’m useless to my own endeavours.
18-Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I could do it in Lushootseed?
19-First fandom you wrote for?
Lucy Maud Montgomery books. First I read for, first I wrote for, first I ever cared enough about to seek ‘more’ of. We can add ‘only’ here too.
20-Favorite fic you've ever written?
Awoo, I don’t know! They all stress me out equally? No matter what, I’ll always think to myself, ‘yikes, I could have done that better.’ I wish this had asked for recs, though! I have a bunch of those.
20 Fanfic Questions
Thanks for the tag (days and days ago now) @randomfoggytiger.
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 21 as of today, which is kind of wild. (I have some on Gossamer, too, because: old.)
2. What's your total AO3 words count?306,501. Working on another longer-ish one that will bump that up.
3. What fandoms do you write for?The X-Files by and large. One time I wrote a fic for a very popular fandom of the 00s I never actually posted, and now I feel differently about that fandom and never will. I can imagine a world where I might write for another fandom, but I am pretty XF-centric right now.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?Chicken Dinner, Pause, The Boy on the Beach, The Kaleidoscope, Unobserved.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?I do respond to comments, but not all the time. I get behind in responding, and then I have to not respond to any of them to make it consistent, if that makes any sense at all? (Because someone might wonder—why did she respond to that comment and not to mine?) I know, I know, I'm sorry.  I honestly love every single comment, and I prefer to respond to them. When I have my life together, I have had great conversations in comments before.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?As I read over my work, I have not done a lot of angsty endings, although I have plenty of angst. I have a very old fic written the summer between season 7 and 8 called Opposition and Synthesis (one of many post-Requiem fics) that is on Gossamer and ends angsty, but that’s not a widely read piece any more, lol. I would say of my more recent work, probably Ice Water ends the angstiest.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? I have lots of happy endings. I couldn’t say.
8. Do you get hate on fics?Nooooo, not per se. I have gotten very critical comments from people who are disappointed by the turn the fic has taken, or comments taking issue with my interpretation of canon. I remember someone didn’t like the idea of Scully going on dates at all in the break-up era, and they complained about that in the comments on End of Story. That’s a difference in headcanon, so sometimes it’s frustrating when people feel theirs should prevail. But I haven’t really received what I would call “hate” exactly (so far) for which I am grateful.
9. Do you write smut. If so what kind? I have, but it’s not my favorite. It’s completely hypocritical of me because I like to read it, but it’s not my most comfortable area of writing. I think it’s a problem of not being terribly visual.  I do feel sometimes it’s necessary to a story, and my betas peer pressure me into including it sometimes, too.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?I haven’t.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? No.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes. People translated some of my fic into Russian one time.
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before? No. I would like to do that.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship? Mulder and Scully. Duh.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? Okay, I have told this story a few times, so bear with me if you’ve heard it, but I had a WIP I hadn’t finished between 2000-ish and 2021. That’s right. Twenty years. It would be very reasonable to assume I was never finishing that fic, as the first two parts had been up on Gossamer for years and I had not been seen or heard from in decades. Then during the pandemic I came back to thinking about the show, and when I came back to the fandom there were oddly people who still knew my fic. And I remembered this WIP and still had some of the ancient Word files of later chapters on my Google drive, so I decided to make a little project of finishing it and posting it to AO3. And now it’s finished. (It’s called Bloodline. You can read it and see if you can tell where the narrative is written 20 years apart.)  So I don’t believe in doubting you’ll ever finish WIPs. Never say never.
16. What are your writing strengths? I think dialogue. I would not have said plotting when I restarted this hobby, but I do think I have gotten better at plotting. And I do plan things out. I do a lot of research.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Smut. Logistics in moving around in general – like when someone is standing or sitting and how they move from one place in the room to the other. I write in present tense a lot but past tense sometimes, so sometimes I mess up tense absent-mindedly. I’m also a very slow writer who rewrites a lot. When I see people get a prompt and then post the fic a few days later, my mind is blown, because I could absolutely never. People who do Fictober also have my deep respect, because that would be a very, very hard thing for me.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I would only do it very sparingly or with extensive help, as I’m not a fluent speaker in anything but English. I could probably write a little French or Spanish dialogue to understand (I think I did write a tiny bit of Spanish dialogue in We’re Not Here To Get Involved In Personal Problems). But I would really want a more fluent speaker to look it over if I were doing any significant amount.
19. First fandom you wrote for? The X-Files, really, if you don’t count that middle school Victoria Holt romance novel sequel I wrote for English class.
20. Favourite fic you've ever written? I’m going to choose three, okay? Is that egotistical? I’m sorry if so. I’ve always really liked Jackson Van De Kamp’s Not-So-Final Repose. It’s not perfect, but it’s quirky and fantastical and sentimental and has a special place in my heart. It’s also more like a play, which is probably one of the genres my writing is most influenced by. I also really like The Boy on the Beach, which took a year to write and involved so, so much research, which was fun and a positive experience. Finally, I like How To Eat Pleasant Holiday Meals With Co-Workers, which was a prompt for a holiday exchange (early MSR Thanksgiving) that I expanded into a series of Thanksgivings over the years. I ended up really enjoying imagining each of those Thanksgivings, especially the last one. That last one is my forever post-revival headcanon now lol.
Would anyone like to do this? I'm going to tag @mollybecameanengineer if she hasn't yet, but anyone should.
20 Questions for Fic Writers Game
Tagged by @shenanigans-and-imagines! I don't usually do these, but hell why not
1 - How many works do you have on AO3?
I have 56 individual "works", but that doesn't count how many chapters/actual fics I have posted there
-
2 - What's your total AO3 word count?
373,417
-
3 - What fandoms do you write for?
So many, oh god. Markiplier Egos, Marvel, The Witcher, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, NCIS, Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit, The Arcana, For The Love Of The Gods, Ace Attorney, Indiana Jones, Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom, Howl's Moving Castle, Enola Holmes, Doctor Who, Star Trek, Baldur's Gate 3. These are just all the fandoms I have characters I will write for in, so even though I don't have fics for all these fandoms, I will write for them
-
4 - What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
You Have A Type, Don't You? - Astarion x gn!Tav/Reader
I Come With Knives (series) - Astarion x gn!Tav/Reader
Designated Lockpicker - Astarion x gn!Tav/Reader
Astarion Drabbles - Astarion x Tav/Reader ficlets
You Hate Me - Astarion x gn!Tav/Reader
-
5 - Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
It depends on the comment, but I don't respond all the time. If someone has a question, or I feel I need to correct them/steer them in the right direction, I'll answer, but I don't respond to most of the ones gushing/aweing over the fic, not to say I don't still appreciate them all immensely.
-
6 - What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Rom, My Beloved is my saddest/angstiest from my individual works, but there are some really angsty fics in my Loki and Markiplier Ego compiled works. I wrote it because Rom is my favorite Bloodborne boss and I just loved her lore, but tragedy abounds when you talk about a Soulsborne game
-
7 -What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
A lot of my fics nowadays have happy endings, but my favorite of my completed individual works is probably The Rescue of Magistrate Ancunin, because it's open-ended as to what could happen next but it takes a devastating moment from Astarion's life and makes it nice and a little silly
-
8 - Do you get hate on fics?
In recent memory, no, but I'm sure I have at some point. I usually delete it and move on
-
9 - Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Very vanilla but very emotionally-charged. I have a tendency to focus more on the emotions of those involved and how they feel about their partner over how the sex feels
-
10 - Do you write crossovers?
No, but I have thought about doing a Witcher and Bloodborne crossover, because I think it would be very interesting
-
11 - Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of. I did check through the major sites when AI bots started scraping fics off AO3, but I didn't see anything then. If anything does come up though, absolutely let me know
-
12 - Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but! Back when I wrote on Wattpad, I had some very lovely person ask to read my fic on Youtube. I agreed and I wish I could find it, because I just remember being so elated by it
-
13 - Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope. I don't really know how to approach co-writing, and it's just not something I'm too interested in rn
-
14 - What's your all time favorite ship?
Uh uhm pass (I can't think of any 💀)
-
15 - What's a WIP that you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I have a Breath of the Wild fic planned out, with notes and even a first chapter written out and future ones with little bits drabbled out, but when I tried revisiting it again, I was just so lost in what I had planned. I hope one day I can finish it, but it's not gonna be soon
-
16 - What are your writing strengths?
I've been told that it's the little details I add that ground it more into reality, ie hair getting caught on earrings or a voice cracking while trying to sing
-
17 - What are your writing weaknesses?
I feel like I don't describe things complex enough. I can describe emotions or scenery and dip in a little bit, but I can never get it deep *enough*, but I know that comes mostly with neurodivergences and comparing myself to others
-
18 - Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I hate when writers have foreign words/phrases in the middle of a fic and don't translate them until the very very end. That means I have so pick up the context clues around it, translate it myself, or risk getting spoiled trying to find the translation
Also, if your character uses sign language, don't put it in italics or ' ', just write it out like if it was verbal dialogue. "They signed, '[fill in the blank]'" Describe the way the gestures are formed (sloppy, sharp, indecipherable, fast) to get across emotion, and also the expressions on their face, since sign languages are very heavily reliant on facial emotions to ass meaning to the signs themselves
-
19 - First fandom you wrote for?
Hard to say. I first started my writing on Wattpad, and have since been locked out of that account, but it was probably Doctor Who, knowing me
-
20 - Favorite fic you've written?
I have a hard time picking favorites! And I like a bunch of them for a variety of different reasons, and always have things to nitpick about them
I will say I am really really enjoying my work on I Come With Knives so far. It's a passion project and I have some very big, angsty things planned for the future that I can't wait to get to >:3
-
I don't really know who to tag for these things ever, so if you want to do it, go for it :)
