Im east asian and i speak and write Japanese well (its my first languag) and so i have always been reading manga first and then watching the anime. And i, as a manga reader, noticed the difference and so many things that were indeed ichiruki but thats not what im saying

Uh, yeah. So it's finally time that I came clear. I once said that I have a ship that I barely tolerate, so.... that NOTP is none other than stsg. I recently block the ship tag here in tumblr, actually. So now that I said this, stsg fans, you're very welcome to block me.

I'll put the rest of my answer under the cut in consideration for the ship fans, since this is definitely not for the fans. Don't say I didn't warn you if you're one of the fans and still continue to read and then get offended

Honestly, this is a thing that has been happening since several months ago. I don't know exactly why, but the western stsg fandom got very loud - to the point that I, who usually can tolerate many things including pairings that I don't ship, became unable to ignore it. Fans today really likes to throw words like "canon" and easily verbally attack people who don't agree.

Anyway, even if Director Park said it, it doesn't really make it actually canon. I still remember Nakata Jouji (I love the man, he's my favorite priest in Fate series), the seiyuu for Naobito, said that Naobito is Maki's father, which later written by Gege to be untrue. Ougi is Maki's actual father. So, unless Gege writes or says it directly, what other people (even staffs) can only be considered as a speculation; since it's their interpretation of the characters, just like we fans do.

It's just when related to a ship, fans always get loud. Remember viz's mistranslation "my one and only" lol? I have long thought since the volume came out that the stsg fans will take it and run with it. And this is just a personal theory, but the loudest one are the one with the smallest crumbs. Itfs is still fed today by gege so we're just content day to day, but stsg currently has nothing in the manga so they get really loud when the smallest crumb drops. It'll pass if you wait, just stay calm lol.

So my intolerance does not come from the ship itself, but from the fans, so yeah. Same, anon, same.

Am I the only one who thinks some fanfic writers are nosy and insecure? Maybe it's just this particular Facebook group but it's a big Ao3 writers group so I know the majority are also here, but I was asking how I should thank someone nicely for writing a fic I didn't like (it's part of an anonymous gift exchange from a Discord server. Despite putting the things I want included in the fic the result was still disappointing) and some people were like "why didn't you like it?" or "share the fic, I want to see what's so bad about it," as if not liking a fic is such a big deal.

I said I would thank them for their hard work, I'm just bad at scripting the words (cuz I'm autistic) and I thought other writers who had been in my position could give an example. I expected short and direct answers and instead met with people wanting to know more about how I got to this point.

I have multiple people saying how "This is why I won't ever do gift exchange" or "this is why I stop making fic from other people, there's one time someone said really bad things about it." As if I didn't ask EXACTLY how I should respond politely.

This isn't the first time I got this kind of thing, whenever I ask a trope or a tag that's remotely dark or dead dove-related there will always be a person or two going, "Why would you want to write that? I don't think it will get people to read." Which is funny because there is a lot that has spoken about antishipping or antifiction behavior and how to not treat people that way. Esp since that group supposedly exists to help support any fanfic writer.

2. I personally do not care what people write or draw as long as they're keeping things safe and having fun. Don't bring silly conflicts about what people write or draw onto my blog. (I'm referring to proship/antiship arguments) Thank you!

I'm not comfortable writing any parent/child stuff but no shade if you do, I usually don't like any OG fontcest stuff either it's just hard for me to digest but again no shade.

I've written stuff about anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, disability, all sorts of trauma, lots of that.

I won't talk about the kinks I write and don't write on here but oh readers there are many yesses, maybes, and hard nos to be found there, I assure you. And again, write or read, no shade.

Uhh honestly I think that's all I have, which is kinda L, maybe I need to step up my dark fiction game if this is all I've got. (It can get so much worse and istg I will write worse stuff to spite anyone who's tossing around hate like it's confetti. And I'll tag it properly so they don't have to see it if it makes them uncomfortable. I'm just cool like that.)

(Oh btw if you're not tagging your stuff properly or make a fuss about tagging things when someone tells you that you didn't tag something properly, you and me ain't cool. Nothing about that is okay. I’m gonna say something controversial

I do not give a flying fuck what you ship. I am not the thought police. I am not trying to repress media, I am not trying to censor anyone by not wanting self-or-otherwise-proclaimed proshippers to interact with me.

What I want is for people so entrenched in ship discourse to stop telling me as a victim I am wrong to be upset and uncomfortable when people bring ships that make me uncomfortable into my space.

Listen. People can do as they will with their free time regarding fictional characters—they are simply objects after all, writers are the people who give them life, they do not think for themselves. But at the same time, I do not like to be reminded of the shit that happened to me.

I am not proship. I am not antiship or whatever either. I do not take part in this discourse. I just do not like being told I am wrong because of my experiences making me averse to certain things, and for whatever reason, some people really like to try to lay on the whole “you should be okay with this actually” narrative extremely thick.

No. I should not. You do not have the right to tell me how to curate my online experience, you do not have the right to remove my autonomy in that way. The moment you start preaching to me about how it’s fine because they’re fictional as an excuse to keep talking at me about something that viscerally upsets me because it reminds me of my own past? You are the villain here.

It’s like any other issue with consent. Tag your shit and drop the subject if someone says “hey please don’t talk about this around me”. Thanks

I want to put my two cents into the whole “ant-dark fiction” debate because I think it ultimately boils down to people not being able to understand viewpoints outside their own, ON BOTH SIDES.

Resently I saw a post of someone saying something along the lines of “please stop writing fanfics of woman being r*ped” and I saw a bunch of people in the comments and reblog a essentially saying “welp, guess tumblr isn’t for you” and I think that’s just in bad faith.

People are allows to not like fanfic the glamorizes SA, HOWEVER, on the other side, people are allowed use fanfic as a coping mechanism or a safe way to explore fantasies. I personally think that because Tumblr isnt an app like TikTok with an algorithm, meaning in order to consume content you have to search it out, I think it’s ultimately your responsibility to read tags and make sure you’re safe. You can’t police everyone because it makes you uncomfortable. On that same note, if you write dark fiction you need to recognize how putting your kinks/ fantasies out their can effect people, because contrary to popular belief, it does effect people.

I hate how Proship/ Antiship discourse has runined fandom spaces. I hate how people see the discourse as black and white, it you support this one thing you’re a terrible person, if you don’t support this one thing you’re great. I hate how the discourse has ruined fanfic as an art form and has discouraged people from using fanfic as a way of dealing with their trauma, AND I also hate how people are unwilling to recognize that the things they put onto the internet is going to effect people. Controversial take, but fiction does effect reality.

It effects reality when you put posters of your favorite character on your wall. It effects reality when you cry because your favorite character died. It effects reality when your reading fanfic or drawing fanart of your favorite character. It effects reality when you sit here on your bed writing all this shit for most people not to care. If fiction didn’t effect reality then most fiction wouldn’t be loved today. Fiction effecting reality isn’t always a bad thing, people just like to paint it that way. But it can also really harm people who might not be in good mental shape. I KNOW that yandere behaviors are bad in real life, that’s why I can read Yandere fanfiction and be perfectly fine. But there are actual people on this app acting like Yanderes, talking about how they want to hurt themselves or other people for their “love.” That is fiction effecting reality in a negative way.

Either way, I think we need to start understanding and acknowledging viewpoints outside our own. Instead of rushing to say “we’ll actually I use non-con fanfic to cope from my on SA” any time a person slightly critiques dark fiction, actually take the five seconds to understand their viewpoint and why they might be upset/ uncomfortable when you post about how badly you want to be non-coned by some hot anime boy. It’s weird, especially if you’ve gone through that first hand. It isn’t glamorous or sexy, it’s traumatizing and people are allowed to fee that way. People are also allowed to use their blog to explore dark tropes in a safe way with people that also want to explore those tropes, and commenting on a post that clearly says DEAD DOVE DO NOT EAT with “how dare you write fanfic about SA, you’re a terrible person!!!!” Is also not helpful in any way.

Tdlr: other people exist that aren’t you. They experience and deal with trauma in different ways and no one should be shamed for that. Pro/Anti-ship discourse has ruined fandom spaces forever, and fiction does effect reality and that’s not a bad thing.

To the anon who made the anti-ship ask, I agree with you on some level.. but also don't?

Now, I’ll give you credit. I do personally enjoy most wlw stuff from the osc. So I might have some baises here. I do get where you're coming from when it comes to shipping.

But at the same time, I think the reason you don't see that many anti shippers in the tumblr/twt community is because most antishippers in the osc (Who doesn't actually even use that title) are 10 year old boys on some big osc youtubers community tag.

And a lot of oscyt who do fall under the line of anti shippers are just very immature individual who are stuck in the echochamber known as the community tab of youtube who would most likely be as immature if they were shippers) but that still doesn't help out in the image

Basically most anti shippers in the osc don't actively want to critique and rant on ships like you do, most osc anti shippers don't really know how to even analyze the writing (Ex. "team that loses = bad writing")

TLDR: Anti-ship discoursein the osc, (FROM WHAT I KNOW) is very very stupid and usually very very petty

I do agree with you the more shippy sides of the osc are very allergic to non-ship dynamics, but

Look, I've been in the same situation as you, so many characters I like get stripped down to some basic garbage personality, tha lacks the nuance they have in canon. And then it’s all I see of them, I only see people portray them that one way and I can’t escape it. I feel it’s also shoved down my face.

But now, and this is where you might lose me, and where my take might become ass.

IF you want anti-ship osc content you need to make it yourself, even with all the haters.

I wanted more content that noticed the characters actual personality, so I started posting analises, I wanted to find people who shared my takes so I started looking around for people(THIS was actually way easier due to me making content, since those people KNEW my takes)

I'm sorry to say it, but people who like shipping all the characters together won't suddenly stop posting that content or posting more platonic content of osc characters because you don't like ships. Whilst it sucks that you feel like you have a place in the osc, a lot of the people came here wanting to ship stuff, a lot of people enjoy doing that just as much as you enjoy antishipping

BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY

If you want more platonic osc content, if you want MORE anti ship content you'll need to make it yourself, if you want to stop having ship content down your tags then block as many ships you know of. (Again I'll give you credit this ain't fool proof), Your confession is true I do agree with it. I know you might feel forced to ship things, but I’m telling you right now as a person who's been in a lot of /fandoms that are big on shipping, no one is forcing you. And I think you understand that. But forcing yourself to like shipping isn't good. But then again I can't really blame you (god this is way to long)

BUT AT THE SAME TIME, If you want to have a space for platonic osc dynamics THEN YOU CAN’T EXPECT PEOPLE WILL MAGICALLY KNOW YOU WANT THAT IF YOU DON’T TELL THEM. I’m sorry to say this (because I’ve done this before) But especially on the internet people don’t know what you want.

And looking at the response your ask got, THERE IS A AUDIENCE FOR IT. Even if it isn’t big, people do want to see that!

Hey OP, has this blog and all the asks and stuff you get influenced any of your perspectives on shipping discourse and general media stuff?

Oh, for sure.

I don’t think my opinions on “problematic” media or whatever itself have changed at all, but my opinions on these communities definitely have. Of course, I can’t talk about every single proshipper/anti and I’m generalizing here and this is entirely just from my experience. If it doesn’t fit you, it doesn't fit you.

I don’t really know how to articulate this very well so I’m sorry if this makes no fucking sense.

The communities everyone has built feel so backwards. Going into this, I assumed the community built around problematic media would be centered around said problematic media, but instead, it’s centered around defending it while also never engaging with it at all. It feels so bizarre to me that you’ve created a community around “live and let live, just enjoy the fiction you want to, it doesn’t matter at all actually” and yet 99% of all posts I see from proship blogs is about being proship and not them actually just enjoying their little fictional guys. In my experience, there seems to be more “fictional incest is okay because it’s fiction” posts than “here’s a drawing of some fictional incest, which is okay because it’s just fiction” posts, if that makes sense.

I don’t know, it just feels bad, man. Running this blog has made me significantly less happy, and I don’t really know why anyone would subject themselves to such a soul-crushing community long-term when they don’t even care all that much. I don’t know why someone would run a proship (or anti) blog where you only post about being morally better than the other “side” about your fiction, while also… Never posting or reblogging anything about the fiction you like. It just feels like nobody is happy or posting about the things that make them happy, ever.

I have the opposite problem with antis and proshippers. Antis have some fucked up opinions and I think they’re awful, but at least they don’t post about other shit. It’s possible to enjoy the things an anti has made without being an anti because they don’t exclusively post about being an anti. The #anti and #antiship tags are overrun with crossposts because nobody fuckin uses those hashtags. Antis don’t post under ship discourse tags or search through ship discourse tags or follow blogs exclusively about ship discourse like proshippers do.

I obviously can't speak for anyone else, but from my experience running this blog, it is exhausting constantly surrounding yourself with a community entirely built off of outrage. Of course harassment and bullying are bad and of course we should be anti-harassment. But I feel like that should be the baseline for the community and not everything the community thinks and does.

The term “ignorance is bliss” comes to mind. You don’t have to post about “wow antis sure do suck haha” all the time when you could post about your fictional blorbos instead. Post your blorbos dammit, even if they’re siblings or what the fuck ever, it’ll make you happier than posting about discourse.

Enjoy whatever fiction you want, but at least post about things you enjoy. You can quit posting about discourse if it makes you feel worse, I promise it doesn’t make you an anti I swear.

I was googling about pro/antiship stuff and I was led here so I hope it's cool if I ask a question here about something I've been thinking of for some time... Sorry this will get long. So for starters, I'd consider myself an anti (or just neutral), as I'm not a fan of what proshippers like (problematic ships etc.) and I personally believe fiction affects reality (but I really don't care about what people write/draw about since it's fiction, if that makes sense, just tag it properly so I don't need to see it), but... I don't condone harassing anyone for being a proshipper. Some think there's no "neutral" stance for this, you're either pro or anti and even if I align with the anti mindset personally, some people would deem me a proshipper because I'm not against proshippers (I have literally been called a "spineless proshitter coward" before because I didn't agree with harassing a proshipper). I wouldn't mind talking to a proshipper, I wouldn't mind being friends with a proshipper, so that apparently makes me a proshipper too... I personally don't think it's that black and white, but, what do I know? 

What I'm wondering is, what went wrong? I'm a bit older (30+) and back in my day, if you didn't like something, you would click the back button and move on. No need to attack others, just leave them be. These days people even add content warnings, so if I see someone write "CW: [something I don't wanna see]", I just won't check it out. And if someone states they're a proshipper, I'll likely just ignore them or mute them. Again, there is no need to attack them. So why do some antis knowingly look at things they don't like and then harass others? That doesn't make any sense. Don't DNI lists work both ways? So if the anti doesn't want proshippers to interact with them, then maybe the anti shouldn't knowingly interact with proshippers and vice versa. That's how I see it at least, I don't get why some people prefer to hurt others instead. (Also in case if any anti thinks I'm just slandering them here, then no, it goes the opposite way too so a proshipper shouldn't be attacking antis, IMO.)

So the question I wanted to ask: what am I? I've heard of people getting leery if you don't mention in your bio whether you're anti/proship and like I mentioned I personally align with the anti mindset but clearly I'm not "anti enough" for some antis. If I label myself a proshipper, people will get the wrong idea as again, I'm personally not a fan of such content (you do you though). And what if I pick the ""wrong"" label, what if my friends actually turn out to be antis/proshippers and they get mad at me? This whole anti/pro thing is so tiring. I don't want people to get the wrong idea, but I also don't feel like I need a label, but if I don't have a label I'll seem suspicious to some people... So, so tiring. I know I'm likely just worried for no reason because I really shouldn't care about what some random person online thinks about me, but I still think about this a lot and it has been on my mind...

What Is Your Policy for Finding People's Pronouns?

I will check every piece of social media linked in bio and the bios of those social media sites until I run out of places to look at which point your pronouns are they/them until you tell me otherwise.

While I am on the left I probably save my political engagement and most of my angry ranting for. The reason I have this blog is because I wanted to shitpost about linguistics and my (small) group of followers were built off negative political engagement. It made me genuinely miserable and so I don't post on twitter that much anymore. Maybe when/if twitter goes under I will make a sideblog but idk. I guess what I'm saying is I probably won't argue with you.

What Is Your Opinion on This Sexuality/Gender/Kink?

I can't be bothered to list out my opinion on every separate sexuality/gender/kink you might have but as long as it is consensual (children and animals can't consent) it's probably good.

How Do You Filter Your Content?

I try to use common sense when I tag/cw/apply labels to my posts for things that I think will upset people but if you need me to do it differently then please feel free to send me a message. I don't make a lot of posts that require censoring.

The terms proship/antiship are so variable that they are completely meaningless so I can't really say.

I am Etan. I have been previously known by other names, but this is the one you can have for now. My AO3 is benilos.

22 years old, I am American Indigenous, pronouns are he/they/it/majora. I am the creator Hyrule-Bound and Time and Time Again of the TCU media series.

My AO3 account with all of the actual fics is benilos. You need an account to view mine, as it is marked as mature. It should not take very long to get an invite when you ask the site for one, but please keep this in mind.

hi it's me again, thanks for humoring me! i understand how it seemed like bait, but i genuinely wasn't trying to bait anyone. as for my proshipping friend, they're not into pedophilia/zoophilia/etc. problematic content, they hate it too, they just believe in the freedom of shipping others... as in, they wouldn't harass someone for shipping something problematic. they wouldn't really condone it, but they wouldn't attack the person just for their ship. they also believe in people being allowed to write/draw/etc. about whatever they want as long as it's tagged properly and they keep it strictly fictional. "dead dove do not eat" kind of thing, if you know what that is? they don't mind seeing that sort of content (and have even read some stories like that too) but it doesn't mean they support it. they consume it critically, as they say.

as for why i'm friends with them, it's just that i'm old enough to remember the times when people didn't instantly refuse to be friends with someone over whether they're pro/antiship. we've been friends for a really long time and it was only later they told me they consider themselves a proshipper and i know them well enough to be able to trust them. still, if it turns out they're into problematic content (pedophilia/zoophilia/etc.) and don't see anything wrong with it (and would maybe want that irl too), that's when i'll try knocking some sense into them and if it doesn't work, well, it was a fun friendship while it lasted. i don't mind proshippers who are chill, but the moment they turn into genuine creeps is when enough is enough.

this is a complex topic, and it isn't as easy as proship/antiship.

it's ok if your thing isn't someone else's, and someone else's isn't yours. there are things wrong with fandom culture, to be honest. about how you can just easily speak with anyone you want about certain things, the internet blurs boundaries. i'm not denying that.

that is everyone's responsibility. if you were groomed by a media, that is not your fault. it is the fault of your groomer(s).

it is also not the media's fault, if it is fictional. if it has taboo subjects mentioned and it isn't genuine, real life children being exploited **in the media itself**, it isn't the media's fault. hell, even then, it would be the creators' / the groomer who manipulated a child/anyone into creating the media.

if it is real child pornography, with real life children being filmed and hurt. that is inexcusable. and that is the media creators' fault. the creator in these situations is the one who either made it, knowing it is hurtful. or the one who was manipulating someone into making it.

if you have been groomed with certain media, but the media itself/ the media creator themselves aren't the perpetrators, it is perfectly alright, acceptable, good, to not feel comfortable interacting with that media or seeing posts and the like about it.

that does not mean all the people that enjoy that media / created that media are the same as your perpetrator.

fans of the media / tropes that were used to groom you are not your groomer.

that does not mean you have to interact with the media at all, or interact with the fans of the media. it just means that you need to acknowledge, to move forward, that they are not your groomers.

fandom spaces do have a long ways to go, with people tagging things properly, warning things properly, speaking with each other in a civil way, etc, etc. that much, i think, everyone can agree on.

as i said before, this is a very complex topic. i'm also not the best at articulating my words. i just think that this is very important, more so than being a proshipper, or an anti-shipper, or not liking someone elses' kinks, or being absolutely sex repulsed or squicked out by incestuous or age gap ships, or being triggered by those things.

fandom should be a community where people can share their interest in topics without being afraid of getting sent death threats or being triggered wherever they go.
