I’ve been wondering. What is everyone’s take on AFTER Horizon 3? I always thought Aloy’s Story will end in Forbidden West.. (it needs to end somewhere, right?) but the reveal for H3 made me feel different things. I am kinda happy about it but (after certain reveals and how the story went in FW) also not so happy about it. hehe. I hope for an end of Aloy’s story but dont want the franchise to end. Don’t get me wrong, I love Aloy but her Story can’t go on forever.

Now, after Call of the Mountain got released (and my weird obsession for it) my Friends and I got some speculations. Apart from it being a promotion for the VR2 set, I actually think it was made to introduce us to a new main character (kinda to show us, hey! Aloys story is coming to an end but it wont be the end of the franchise y’know). While some of my friends agreed, the others didn’t like us theorizing so much and think we keep interpreting to much into it (which is probably true). I mean, they could’ve easily made a VR Story with Aloy (something short like a mission between FW and H3? or something similar?) but they took Ryas. So WHY IS THAT?? Why did they introduce Itamen’s Shadow to us?? THEY COULD’VE LEGIT CHOOSEN ANYONE BUT TOOK HIM! (I love him!) I am in desperate need of discussing this further but apart from my friends (which are super busy with RL) I have really, barely, anyone else to talk about this. So please.. feel free to enlighten me with your theories or weird ideas or whatever!

Megan's Blorbo Bracket

I got sick of my favorite characters getting knocked out of random tournaments and then me not caring about any of the possible winners. @perihelions suggested I make a bracket of just my favorite characters instead. So I present 32 blorbos: No matter who wins a poll, I will win because my blorbo wins, and no matter who loses, I lose because my blorblo loses. But the people who will lose most will undoubtedly be my followers, who have to sift through more junk posts from yours truly. Without further ado:

"You like so many things. How did you pick?" I limited myself to two blorbos per fandom and every pairing was randomized. I have other favorites that I left out for lack of blorbo energy, or I just wasn't feeling it, or I hit my "two per fandom" maximum. Maybe if I'm bored later I'll make a bracket of just the rejects.

"What's the schedule?" The first eight polls of Round 1 will go up this Friday, May 5. The second eight of Round 1 will go up on Saturday, March 6. Polls will have a 24-hour time limit. (But I'm not sure what tournament courtesy is; I can be convinced to make them a week long if there are strong feelings otherwise.)

"I'll just vote for my favorites and then skip the other polls if I don't recognize anyone." Please participate in every poll you happen to see. Really!

"But I don't recognize/am sick of seeing some of these people." You are welcome, nay, strongly encouraged, to participate if/when you do not know any of the contestants. Pick whomever's design or name or vibe you like the most or flip a coin. I also encourage spite-voting AGAINST ones you dislike. I want this tournament to be as chaotic and petty as possible. I do not however make any promises to change my blogging behavior based on the results.

27/01/23 -Wednesday 01th, Feburary.

An App i downloaded that has been surprisingly working swiftly in helping me leave my phone, it should track studying but im tracking anything heh. and some of the cooldown time on the weekend, where i got my ass handed on Hades. but the truth is i played like 15mins and then dipped and started playing Horizon Zero Dawn!

Today:

i decided to start going for walks, its good for my health and it leads me to start work fully awake. and i spend too much time sit in the computer so yeah. i went for a walk early-ish, and then im working rn, but im on break talking with my supervisor about how to tackle the next issues. some wp speed optimization work. so its gonna be a busy day. but its cool. oh i should be pulling gacha today wish me RNG luck. and also depending on how things go i might choose what to do to cool down today.

Replaying Horizon Zero Dawn over the weekend.

A new group of wild turkey’s I’ve been working on taming have been learning to come to different vocals.

Getting to sleep in and bundle up in warm blankets.

Made a nice dinner and cleaned up the kitchen.

WIP Wednesday

I was tagged by @torrefaction-of-silver to share an excerpt from a WIP. After focusing solely on Dragon Age: Inquisition for daily June prompts, I'm excited to pick up my Horizon Zero Dawn fics again.

This is a snippet from an Aloy/Avad story, set some vague time post-canon (no HFW spoilers), where Avad tends to Aloy's wounds whenever she returns to Meridian. The idea for this story was inspired by my lovely fellow Alvad enjoyer, @chronic-ghost. THIS ONE'S FOR YOU GURL. 😘

The night is quiet.

There are no brawls drawing the city guards from their perches, no rowdy Oseram staggering through the streets, no bawdy songs rising above the taverns. From the towers of the palace, only a few flickering lights stand out among the darkness—a sleepy sprawl, blinking away the remaining cares of the day.

A city at peace.

And yet, Sun-King Avad knows that while the night may be quiet, it is never silent.

These past years of waiting and listening have attuned Avad’s ears to the intricate after-dark polyphony. Insects chirring, birds chirping and screeching into the inky night sky. He can hear the subtle differences: the dry scrape of a lizard’s claws darting across the stone, compared to the slow drag of a vulture’s talon, heavier and full of malice. The rapid beating of a crow's wings to the steady glide of a hawk. A skittering rat to a frolicking squirrel.

It’s unfathomable, now, that he ever thought the night could be silent.

She’s been gone for weeks.

It’s nothing new, of course—she’s always coming and going. It’s part of what he loves about her, after all. She wouldn’t be Aloy if she wasn’t drifting in and out of Meridian, in and out of his life, like a summer breeze.

But what reassures him is summer, inevitably, always returns.

And so does she.

I don't think either fandom wants this, but Horizon Forbidden West dropped right when I was really into Tales of the Abyss. So here's Horizon Zero Abyss Tales of the Horizon Tales Forbidden Abyss a Horizon AU art series that features all of the main cast. The timeline starts roughly simultaneously with Horizon Zero Dawn. But all of the Abyss characters are aged up about two years because, for obvious reasons, I couldn't have Luke be the same age as Aloy and running in the same Proving as her.

Horizon AU Part 2

Luke of the Nora

Luke was born into a delicate political situation.

Even before the beginning of the Red Raids, relations between the Nora and Carja were, at best, cautious. As a gesture of goodwill, Sun King Jiran sent his kinswoman Susanne to marry a Nora warrior of the Matriarchs' choosing. Susanne had difficulty integrating into Nora society, and along with her being unprepared to live a harsh life off the land, she always remained an outsider. Being Carja, she wasn't even granted the usual privileges Nora women enjoy, and her mate Crimson was still seen as the more respected member of the marriage.

She gave birth to twin sons, which was not considered a mark of All-Mother's favor, though High Matriarch Lansra (grudgingly) helped her through the difficult labor and saw to it that the boys survived while their mother recuperated. Growing up, Luke and his elder twin Asch were very close. Despite their father's renown as a warrior, they too were made to feel like outsiders because of their Carja blood, especially when Susanne failed to produce any daughters to bolster the family's standing. Luke and Asch often felt they were merely tolerated among the other children and so looked to each other almost exclusively for support. Luke in particular saw Asch as his protector, though it sometimes frustrated him that (he felt) he wasn’t as capable as his twin.

Things only worsened when the Red Raids began, the other Nora growing more suspicious and angry. Crimson feared daily for the lives of his mate and sons, but the High Matriarchs insisted the family remain in the Embrace. Just why soon became clear – to stave off further raids, the High Matriarchs attempted to bargain with the Sun King, reminding him of Susanne's presence in their community. Jiran offered to halt any attacks on the Nora if Susanne and her sons were brought to Meridian. By then, Susanne feared Jiran and preferred to remain. Crimson negotiated with the High Matriarchs, feeling the family was safer under his care.

The Matriarchs voted two-to-one on a compromise, sending Asch as a political hostage to buy peace between the tribes, a move that left the ten-year-old Luke disoriented and heartbroken. Worse, once Jiran secured Asch, he went back on his word and the Red Raids continued. Susanne, Crimson, and Luke lived in fear of the other Nora, and only Crimson's high standing as a warrior protected them.

Things relented when Avad took the throne and the raids ended. Even so, Luke remained unable to really find a place with his fellow Nora. Often ignored, belittled, and avoided, he grew up struggling to relate to others, hopelessly ignorant in many respects of how the world and people work. His only saving grace was his growing skill in battle, inherited by his father. He clung to this, telling himself that once he was a Proven warrior, he'd finally have the tribe's respect and a place in their world.

But when it came time for the Proving, Luke buckled under the stress of competing against so many people who had been cruel to him growing up – and while it's not confirmed, he argued that the warriors overseeing the Proving conspired against him. He failed the Proving and was not accepted as a warrior.

Ego wounded, disgusted with the Nora, itching for something new, Luke voluntarily left the Sacred Lands. In his recklessness, he's given little thought to the consequence that he can no longer return. He has barely any idea what he's doing. The only plan he has, and it's vague at best, is to make it to Meridian and find his brother.

Luke's our starting point, so it made sense to follow HZD's blueprint and make him a Nora. Plus I think the earth tones just look really nice on him. Horizon and Abyss have very different aesthetics, so trying to come up with Horizon designs that still felt sufficiently like the characters got tricky. Fortunately, a guy in the Nora concept art just so happened to have a long white duster, giving me some much-needed inspiration.

Otherwise, Luke isn't too different from his original self. His hair's a little less spiky and anime (and in a ponytail rather than the infamous “duckbutt”). (Did he cut his hair after failing the Proving? I don’t know, maybe?) I considered shaving the right side of his head, then decided leaving his hair more full would give a better contrast to Asch when we eventually meet him. As for his face paint, he's not a warrior or a Seeker or anything special. I wanted him to have something that an unProven Nora would realistically have, so I ended up giving him Bast's look. I think it suits him.

One question I debated with was whether I should Horizonify their names. There's no getting around the fact that a name like Susanne has no place in the postapocalyptic metal wildlands. Some of the original names translated over okay. Luke could conceivably be Luk or Luuk. But in the end I decided to keep things familiar.

And, yes, that is Mieu.

!!!!! you're replaying!! just in time for me to possibly revisit this series because I heard forbidden west is releasing onto PC soon so I might be able to replay it for the first time since launch

I had a fic idea some time ago about Aloy getting a warning about Ersa and going off on her own to save her without Erend. she gets to Dervahl's base or whatever and realizes that this situation is so politically sticky that killing Dervahl may hurt Oseram-Carja relations, so she has to sneak Ersa out to avoid threatening relations with Avad, whose help she still needs. I can't really remember if there was a stronger justification for this other than I wanted to see Aloy try a stealthy approach vs human enemies other than slaughtering everyone in sight, and then as she travels south with Ersa, they have to avoid towns and villages because Aloy is paranoid and doesn't know who Dervahl has in his pocket.

this would all be be told through journal entries written by Aloy, for some reason, because the twist would be that Aloy had transcribed their journey south and was now being read by Erend after Aloy had made it to Meridian. there would be daily entries describing Ersa's condition and deterioration as Aloy realized she might die on the way there, and Ersa and Aloy having a chance to actually talk as Ersa realizes she's 1) been kidnapped, and 2) dying a very painful, slow death, but 3) still being taken care of by a stranger who refuses to abandon her. unfortunately though Aloy is not a licensed doctor and her idea of medical care is "just slap some red berries on the wound," so I think Ersa surviving air embolism from her eardrums bursting after being dragged a hundred miles is still pretty low.

sadly "fix-it fic" isn't really my go-to sort of thing, and despite me disliking Horizon's trend of killing sisters I actually do think Ersa's death fits Horizon's theme of "we can't erase tragedy, we can only move forward." so in my head Ersa still dies, but she just makes it back to Meridian and manages to hang on for maybe a few days, long enough to say goodbye to Erend/Avad, and that I think would inspire Erend and Avad to trust Aloy a lot more than Avad just hearing about Ersa passing after the fact. and Erend goes "Oh. this girl I barely met snuck into an enemy base and dragged my dying sister back home to me so I could say goodbye" which I think would make their friendship resonate with me a little more than "I met a girl in some backwater town and immediately started flirting with her."

Put "📓" or some other version of a book emoji into my inbox and I'll explain the plot of a fanfiction that I haven't written but daydream about.

I am so normal about Horizon: Zero Dawn. I'm so normal about it. I DON'T want everyone in my life to experience it what do you mean I made a pact so that my brother would play it if I played the whole dark souls trilogy just to watch him experience it. I dont cry daily thinking about the people of the Old World and what it mustve felt like during the Faro plague and Tilda and Elizabet. The "there's other tribes out there, thousands of people just as good as you and they're all worth saving" scene. Aloy despite the Nora. Aloy and Beta. Rost.
