The Monday Menu
Well, I did it... I finished Disparate Pathways. The final chapter was posted this morning. It has been a journey that started in December of 2019 with Witness Protection. Written for the Rumbelle Secret Santa, I was constrained for time, and found myself leaving out a lot of backstory, which I really wanted to include.  My solution was to write the remix, which became the 57 chapter long epic that I finished posting today.  I’m going to miss writing for those characters. The dangerous ex-cartel scion, Gold, and the bad-ass-with-a-heart-of-gold, FBI agent Jefferson Milnor.  I’m not ready to say goodbye!
For those of you that are new to the fandom, or have been hibernating (and who could blame anyone for that given the state of the world) the past couple of years, the Rumbelle Showdown is in full swing. Round 2 brackets are posted, and writers are, I would imagine, currently working on their fics.  Round 1 had some awesome fics, and there’s still a chance for you to identify the favorite you had among those eliminated from round 1. I know that included some of my favorites. Run - don’t walk - to the Showdown blog. Don’t miss out!
Hopefully I will be able to find time to get some writing done this week, and here’s the plan for what this week might look like:
Monday - The Monday Menu - what it says on the box. A plan for the week, also, sometimes, a Monday Mmmm. There won’t always be one of these, just when something troubling or interesting crosses my path.
Tuesday - TMI Tuesday. - Ask me… go on, anything.  Ask my characters -they’ll answer. Nothing is off limits, but be sure you want the answer before you ask the question.
Wednesday - WIP Wednesday - Current state of my works in progress. So many - and still climbing!
Thursday - Three Things Thursday - any fic of mine is fair game. Doesn’t have to be Rumbelle, I have Rushbelle, a bunch of crossovers, some shows people might no know, some ST: DSC, some SGA and some Tolkien too… ask three things, I dare ya…! Please… This is also the day I’ll do the ‘Behind the Scenes’ post, which might just end up as part of the TTT post.
Friday - Final Line Friday. - Assuming I manage to write anything, I will post a word cloud, and the last line that I have written right before I post this. Also I hope to be able to start a Fic Rec Friday too, which won’t always be Rumbelle, but could be any fandom out there.
Saturday - Saturday Secret - another one of those where you can ask about any fic, and I’ll tell (or show) you a secret. Feel free to follow up with conversation or guesses.  I will tell you if you get something right. Again, no one took me up on the offer… so we might also have to think of another ‘SA’ post.
Sunday - Seven Sentence Sunday. - yeah, I have to write something to be able to post this.
Tumblr media
Writing this week - Same as last week... Modern Wonders (At least I’d like to try and get some writing done on this fic.  It has been calling to me after all).  Also perhaps dabbling in some Not Yours to Keep and/or some Laer o Faen.
As always my inbox is open for thoughts, questions, asks… I don’t restrict people to any particular day of the week, and I - like most fic authors - love to discuss things to do with fics and fandom.
I just want to add a shout out to those readers who have left me comments and kudos these last several days.  It has not gone un-noticed.  love you guys for those votes of confidence..
Talk to me, peeps! My inbox is lonely,

I hope I did this justice for you Steph! congratulations on 200! Sending love from the moon to you Steph! And everyone reading! -Blue
Warnings: Sexual references, I put a warning where it starts This is my first time writing something like this since my wattpad days, It’s not smut by any means, it’s just a bit spicy. Should I make another post finishing that bit with smut?
“I can’t believe you told Prongs about Saturday!” Remus had been going off at Sirius for 10 minutes now about the weekend. It was the first time Remus and Sirius had gotten intimate together. Further than just kissing, cuddling. The furthest they had gone before Saturday was heated make out sessions and touching.
“‘m sorry love! We were a bit- ” Sirius was trying to explain what had led to him telling James about that night. Something Remus didn’t want to share straight away.
“A bit?” Remus raises an unbelieving eyebrow at Sirius.
“I was a tad bit drunk. We were just talking ‘bout him and Evans, then he asked ‘bout me and you, and started teasing me when I didn’t say much. He asked me, no peer pressured me into telling him if me and you had done anything. I didn’t want say anything”
“You didn’t want to? Then why did you?” Remus was glaring at Sirius.
“Let me finish, Prongs dropped it until later on. We got hot and took off our jumpers, and he saw the hickeys you made” “Great idea to take off your jumper when you have hickeys” Remus rolls eyes
“I was drunk! Anyway he teased ‘bout how I got ‘em. I was gettin’ upset cause I knew you didn’t want ‘em to know, at least not yet. He said something, I don’t even know what and I got so angry I snapped and told how I got ‘em, but nothing other then ‘we fucked’ ”
“From what he said to me, you told him with a lot of detail. But you know what? don’t worry about having to wear your jumper for awhile, there won’t be anything to hide” glares, but is smirking inside his head, getting up to go to bed
“Wait- what, Moony!”
For the next week Sirius showered Remus in, chocolate, cute letters and a lot of little affectionate things. Whenever it was just the two of them Sirius would be whispering sweet nothings in Remus’s ear mixed with apologies.
It was Friday and Sirius and Remus were cuddling on Sirius’s bed (Remus wouldn’t let Sirius on his bed, making Sirius pout) Remus was reading to Sirius. It was a muggle book he had found on the holidays. Reading together was something they did a lot. Sirius laced their fingers together, kissing Remus’s knuckles. Making Remus look down at him and give him a light smile.
“You’re like a puppy” Sirius gives Remus a goofy grin Remus rolled his eyes playfully, while also willing himself not the blush even a little bit. “What do you mean?”
“Well it’s cause you’re loyal” Sirius kisses Remus’s cheek
“And playful” Kisses his nose
“Cuddly” His other cheek
“Cute” His forehead
“And you’re my puppy” Sirius gives Remus a sweet kiss on his lips. (That ended to quickly for Remus’s liking) He couldn’t stop the blush forming on his cheeks.
“And I’ll love you forever, puppy”
“D-don't call me that” Remus was sure he was crimson at this point. Sirius’s lips turning up into a cheeky grin. “What’s wrong puppy? Does me callin’ you that make you flustered?”  Remus groans hiding his face in the book “Maybe” he mumbles. “You’re adorable Moony”
It was Saturday and Remus was sitting on his bed reading. When the door opened a crack and something got thrown at him, landing on his stomach with an ‘oof’ before the door closed. A very confused Remus looked down at what hit him. It was a bar of chocolate with a letter stuck on it.
Dear puppy, I love you too to too the moony ;) and back. you mean the world to me, and I’m so sorry about telling Prongs. I know I’ve been clingy lately but it’s because I feel bad. You You’re my best friend and my rock, you’ve helped me though through thick and thin. I hope I can win your trust earn your trust back - Sirius the your dumbass
“Did you read it?” Sirius peeked through the door “Yes I did Pads”
Sirius gins enthusiastically flopping onto Remus’s bed “Like it?” “Yes I did, good job with the spelling by the way” Remus grins
“But to get serio-” Sirius’s smile turns into a goofy smirk “To get honest here” he changes, grinning mischievously making Sirius pout but laugh
“I’m not an animal. You can’t win my trust by speaking softly and giving me food.” Sirius covers his mouth to hide his grin  “But you a- “
“Don’t you dare make a pun!” Remus glares the conner of his lips still turned up in a small smile “Ok fine. But you’re still my puppy” Sirius winks at Remus turning him red from his nickname and Sirius’s wink. “You’re so cute when you’re flustered” Sirius smirks as Remus glares at him
“Right now, I don’t know if I want to kiss you or shove you off a bridge.” Remus growls, bring a light pink to Sirius’s cheeks
"Can I pick?" Sirius says pulling Remus so they are both sitting up. Sirius doesn’t let go of his hand, rubbing small circles with his thumb.
“I think I know the answer. But sure” “You can push me off the bridge”
Remus’s eyes widened a bit, not expecting that answer.
“I know giving you food and sweet words won’t make what I did go away. I was more hoping it would help show how sorry I am, and hopefully help you forgive me” Sirius rubs the back of his neck nervously.
Remus pulls Sirius into a quick kiss. “I forgave you, like the next day Siri” He holds Sirius’s jaw, running his thumbs on Sirius’ cheek bones. Pulling him into a long kiss.
Sexual Content
“Why don’t you make me have to wear a jumper for a while?” Sirius smirks “Gladly” Remus smirks back, licking his lips.  Remus practically jumped onto Sirius kissing him deeply “But I doubt you’ll be able to find them” he whispers, before traveling opened mouth kisses to Sirius’s jaw before sucking and biting feverishly, leaving purple flowering bruises, down his neck to his collarbones- The sweet spot Remus found the week before, spending extra time there.
“Their going to last a while” he whispers in Sirius’s ear, nibbling on his earlobe. Sirius was a blushing, flustered mess. Biting his lip so as to not let any noises out. It mostly worked...Mostly.
“I love you Sirius” Remus says against Sirius’s skin, kissing and soothing the forming bruises. “I love you more, Puppy” Sirius smirks before gasping as Remus bites his shoulder.
“Make sure to tell prongs about tonight” He growls in Sirius’s ear, making him shiver.

SO I've never had a schedule before, but with the new year, I feel like it's starting to handle my blog and art in a way that's a bit more professional!! So here's a breakdown of my week and what's projected to happen on those days! Hopefully this is pretty easy to follow, and I hope it can help all my followers along with it!
~~~
Weekly Schedule
~~~
MONDAY & WEDNESDAY - CLASS DAYS
As a very simple 21 year old cartoonist, I'm currently juggling college along with my art and work. I have classes that I attend on campus these two days, so I've set them aside to focus on just my classes, so I don't have to worry about big things like streaming, commissions, or the likes. This isn't to say that I won't be accepting or working on commissions on these days, or that there will be no art posted on these days, or that I will never stream on these days, it just means that my classes will have to come first.
TUESDAY & THURSDAY - GENERAL ART AND COMMISSIONS
As opposed to Monday and Wednesday, I'll be focusing entirely on my art and commissions these two days! This means that there's a very good chance you'll see art streams these days! I host my art streams over on [Picarto], and it's a really fun way to interact with people directly in chat! So if you've been meaning to pop in and say hi to me, art streams are a really easy way to do it! I can also work on your commission on stream so you can watch me get it done in real time and make tweaks and changes as you like! On days I don't have commissions, I'll probably reblog ask-box memes or ask for prompts!
FRIDAY - KO-FI DAY
A while ago, I started a weekly trend of doing Ko-Fi Sketch Streams here on my blog! What this means is that every Friday, you can send me a reference image (by means of a link) and 3 USD by sending me 1 "Ko-Fi" over on my [Ko-Fi Page]. And I'll be able to draw whatever you like, and you can watch me do it on stream on Picarto! I usually receive ocs, but I've done art of some canon characters as well! Plus, they're very easy to refund, so you don't have to worry about your 3 dollars being stuck with me if I'm for some reason uncomfortable with your request. They're a lot of fun, and even if you don't send in a Ko-Fi, I'd love to see you visit in chat!
SATURDAY - GAME DAY
I used to stream a few video games here and there over on my [Twitch] account, but I kind of took a break from it because life got in the way. I'm really looking forward to getting back into that habit now, since streaming video games was one of my favorite things to do! I don't tend to stream lots of popular games, or even games that people may want to watch. But I stream games I like and it makes me happy to be able to share those kinds of things with people. I do also accept tips while I stream games through my [Streamlabs] page, but I don't stream games to get money from them, so please don't worry about being pressured into donating while watching whatever silly game I happen to be playing at the time!
SUNDAY - POKEMON TABLETOP DAY
I'm the Game Master for a game of Pokemon Tabletop with my three players, Clocky (@clockworkscholar), Dream (@adreamare), and Micah (@megamicahboo)! It's a lot of fun, and really the first chance I've had to really flex my storytelling, improv, and world-building muscles. I have lots of fun playing with them and I do my best I can! In the same breath, this pretty much takes up my entire day and leaves me exhausted afterwards, so there's a good chance you may not even see me be active on Sundays. So be aware, that if I don't post on Sundays, it doesn't mean that I'm having a bad day, in fact quite the opposite! It just means I've had such a good time with Pokemon Tabletop that I run out of steam for the day!
~~~
Special Days
~~~
EVERY MONDAY - REBLOG PRICE POST
Since my commissions are my sole means of income at the moment, my commissions are almost never closed and I'm always ready to take on another piece! I'm very lucky to be able to draw for income, and I'm very appreciative for all the support I get! Unfortunately, that means I'll also be putting my [Price Sheets] up pretty often and showing them off as much as I can. I apologize in advance for this!!
LAST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH - CHARACTER CRITIQUE STREAM
As per rewards for the 10 USD Tier of my [Patreon], I hold a raffle every month and pick 3 users subscribed to my 3rd Tier, and ask them to send me a character of theirs for me to draw and talk about on stream, which happens over on my Picarto! It gives my patrons a chance to talk about their characters to my audience while I draw them and talk about them in terms of Character Design and Color. I've also used these streams to help people get a concrete design for characters that might not have them yet! It's by no means a serious critique, and I have a lot of fun drawing characters and giving my input if my patrons ask for it! I pick winners the Wednesday before the stream so the winners have a day or two to pick which character they'd like me to draw. Also, since these streams happen on Fridays, the Ko-Fi Stream happens a day earlier on these weeks, and is pushed forward to Thursday!
LAST DAY OF THE MONTH -  PATREON GOAL RAFFLE
Another reward for my Patrons, each final day of the month I pick 1 user at random (from any of the three tiers I have available) and offer the winner a free commission! The kind of commission is decided by how much USD I make per month and is laid out in the Goals Widget on my Patreon page! At the time of posting this, I'm handing away one free Sketch Bust Commission each month! When I reach 100 USD per month on my Patreon, I'll start handing away free Flat Color Waist Commissions instead! There's also a chance of this day interfering with the Character Critique Stream, and if that happens, the Stream takes priority and I'll choose a winner for the Goal Raffle on the first of the next month!

Comics update
To be fair, I Thought I’d be a lot father a long with the comics than I am. The problems have consisted of two things:
1. My original schedule of getting things didn’t work well my adhd in these final drawing stages. Originally my plan was to have two sketching phases, rough and final, then line art then coloring then touching it up, and the posting plan was to have each story be two parts and post one on A Friday and the other half the next day (Everything Changes thus would have ended up being 6 parts long...ugh 😂). This issue with this method has been that it doesn’t provide the satisfaction of being done fast enough (like say script writing did). So my new plan is to work on pages in groups of 5 to 10, and post them the week that I complete them, probably still on a a Friday or Saturday. This way I can visual see the pages getting done much faster and content will be up sooner, thus helping my need to see results faster in two ways. This also means there will be a lot more than two parts, despite the fact Return To Fair City will clearly be labeled as parts 1 & 2.
2. If you follow my main blog, you may have noticed my vent posts about not being able to sleep or breathe. I have insomnia issues, anxiety issues, and night breathing issues that have all decided to make themselves VERY known these past few weeks. I currently have no solutions to this, but it’s very important that I put my mental health and especially my sleep first. So I’ve spent the time I would have been working on Word Up attempting to catch up on my sleep. Sleeping problems tend to come in phases for me, and This as been one of the longer lasting phases, but I think it’s starting to come to and end, so hopefully soon I’ll get my sleep back on track and be able to get into a consistent work pattern
So anyway, that’s the update. Progress is being made, just much slower than I had planned or would like it to be.

My Journey To Making $100/day On Twitter
I’ve been earning a decent income on Instagram using different methods for close to 4 years now, but as the years go by, Instagram continues to make changes that have continuously made it difficult for small businesses on a budget to make a decent living working on their platform.
We’ve had to make changes as they do, and have almost always adapted well to the challenges but the   recent follow/unfollow limits   that were enforced sometime around June are just impossible to get around. There once was a time when you could follow more than 1000 users/day on Instagram without encountering any issues.
Today, the limit for the entire month falls at under 6000 total, which means you can only follow around 180 users/day.
It can be very scary to watch your source of livelihood gradually dwindle with time.
So, for the past few weeks, I have been towing with the idea of shifting focus from Instagram to Twitter. Twitter is a lot more lenient than Instagram in terms of the number of actions you’re allowed to take within a certain timeframe.
Unlike Instagram, they’ve even   made it public   that you can follow up to 400 users/day.
Why I’m I making my Twitter journey public?   First, I’d like to hold myself accountable. By having to update this post on a continuous basis I will have little room to procrastinate knowing there are people out there following along.
It is also a good reason to push myself to succeed. I’d hate to have the world witness what a colossal failure this journey turned out to be.
And lastly, I know there are people out there struggling to make a decent living. By documenting my journey, some will be able to borrow ideas from this and hopefully, I will have helped someone out.
This is the part I have to remind you to bookmark this post because I really need you to hold me accountable.
So, what tools do I need for this journey?
Tools of trade    An  automation tool  for Twitter. I have     Jarvee     for this     Twitter accounts   . I’m starting slow with just a handful of accounts and will gradually add more  A     proxy for each account    . Proxies make accounts less suspicious by giving each a unique IP address   AD network . I picked the adult niche for this journey and will be promoting links from    ADVerten   . There are other equally good ad networks, like   iMonetizeIt  , but I will stick with Adverten unless I find it necessary to switch networks.    The strategy   It’s simple:
Drive traffic from multiple ‘female’ Twitter accounts to a  SmartLink  given to you by the ad network. The basic concept is, depending on the country from which a Twitter user clicks on your SmartLink, they will be redirected to an adult website where should they register on there, the ad network will add money to your account.
The amount paid to you per registration will depend on a number of factors among which, the country of residence the registered user lives matters. For instance, you can expect to make more money when a user from either the US or a country from the European Union registers.
I will be having my Twitter accounts follow, like and message users that are following Twitter accounts of adult female entertainers. I will also target those liking and retweeting posts of these entertainers.
On the face of it, it might sound like a lot of work but since I will be using an automation tool, once the setup is complete, there will be nothing else to do but to watch the money roll in.
The initial setup shouldn’t actually take more than an hour.
I have created a    Telegram group    where you can discuss your own journey with everyone else and get notified on new updates from this post.
Watch out for the next update.
  Update 22/08/2019
The amount in the screenshot shown as  INCOME  was not made on this journey. It’s what was left over when I did this with Instagram accounts that later got deleted.
 What I’ve done so far:
Collected about 50 Twitter usernames of female adult entertainers. I’ve added these usernames as  follow sources  in Jarvee (I obviously need to add more usernames).  Created and profiled 2 Twitter accounts. They’re already set up on Jarvee and have started following slowly.  Ordered 10 Twitter accounts from a source that sells them. As soon as I receive them I’ll get them set up on Jarvee.   It’s now a waiting game.
I need to have about 20 Twitter accounts running on this tool before I can start optimizing for better conversions.
See you in the next update!
Update 25/08/2019   The 10 Twitter accounts that I ordered took quite some time to arrive, so I wasn’t able to get things moving quickly enough. Nonetheless, I received them yesterday and started warming them up by having them perform a few activities.
On the positive side, we’ve just had our first conversion (2 leads)!
This week, my plan is to order and set up at least 30 more Twitter accounts.
Look out for the next update!
Update 11/09/2019   I added 20 more accounts to my Jarvee campaigns and was playing around with Jarvee’s settings trying to optimize the activities of my Twitter accounts. My settings turned out to be a little aggressive and I lost 6 accounts before I slowed them down a bit.
I also noticed that my conversions on Adverten weren’t exactly close to what I was aiming for, and so as soon as I hit the payment threshhold I switched to iMonetizeIt.
So while my conversions on iMonetizeIt aren’t perfect yet, I have to admit that I’m very pleased with the way things have begun taking shape. The day is still young and expecting a few more conversions before the end of the day.
From now moving forward, the only thing I will be doing to scale up this campaign is to add more accounts and watch the money roll in.
What I have done next    Upgraded my copy of Jarvee to accommodate 150 social media accounts    Placed an order for 70 Twitter accounts    Bought 50 proxies and added them to Jarvee while I wait to receive the accounts I ordered.   Look out for the next update.
  Update 17/09/2019
On the 12th of September, my automation tool had closed and it took almost 2 days before I discovered it and restarted it. I’ve been a little busy with my other online ventures and haven’t been able to do much for this journey, but I’m pleased that the earnings are improving gradually. It’s about 10 AM here and we’re sitting at $4.76 so far.
Oops… I think I wrote too quickly. There’s been an update in the last 30 seconds.   The balance hasn’t even updated   …
I should be able to cross $20/day before the end of this week.
This is all on autopilot!   So you can go about your day doing other things while your money here grows.
Look out for the next update!
Update 18/09/2019   I was hopeful that yesterday would end better than the previous day but that didn’t happen. Still, it didn’t end too bad and the earning closed at $13.14. I haven’t touched my settings yet but I’m looking at what could be improved before Friday the 20th. This far my automation on   Jarvee   is running well without a hitch.
I’m glad that I shared this journey publicly because some people have reached out to me for help with their own journeys and in some of these discussions one guy who’s currently doing really well with this method mentioned the CPA network    Crakrevenue   . Apparently, their offers convert way better than those on other networks.
I’ll continue to promote on iMonetizeIt until Friday and will switch over to Crakrevenue on Saturday.
It’s 9 AM here so we still have the rest of the day to look forward to but here are the results so far …
   Until next time!
Update 21/10/2019   There hasn’t been much lately to write an update about. I decided to switch back to Adverten and did so for the whole of last week and it looks like there some notable improvements.
The plan now moving forward is to create my own Twitter accounts and add them to my automation system. The quality of Twitter accounts I have been buying is really not that good. In most cases, you’ll find that  the text used in the bio does not make sense and the accounts look utterly fake .
So, for this reason, I will be creating my own accounts.
Here’s how last week went on Adverten:
Remember, this is all on autopilot and I did have to do anything.
If you’d like to create a similar system for yourself you can join our   CPA Telegram group   where you’re to ask questions and get answers.
 Until next time!

A Look Back At My Time in Japan! Chapter 2
Tumblr media
Welllllll it looks like it’s been a while since I last posted again...but I have an excuse! I was preparing for a pretty big interview and getting ready to make a trip back to Canada. Maybe you’ve heard of the JET programme and maybe you haven’t but I had an interview for that earlier this month and so it took up a lot of my headspace, I’ll be posting more about it once I hear my results in a month or so but I hope to not have too much of a gap anymore in between posts! Also, a mutual friend of both mine and the bf is coming to stay this weekend from Germany so I’m very excited about that and will hopefully have chapter 3 up afterward.
I said before that this will probably be a 4 part blog but you know I really just have so much to say on my experience and can hopefully provide some insight to any people looking to go on exchange to Japan in the future! Or go on exchange in general since my UK exchange story will be coming after this one! So much happened though that this may just end up being a 6 parter xD, ahh it really would have been great if I wrote what happened at the time. Well, I hope you enjoy reading about Japan through my eyes! I’ve also decided to go with naming these chapters since unlike my UK road trip blog, I’m writing this 4 years after the fact so it feels more like I’m telling a story than giving a week by week account on what I experienced. Anyway, last change to my blog! Promise!
Without further ado!
First Month on Exchange: April
I forgot to mention! At the end of chapter 1 was when I arrived in Nagasaki for the first time and earlier in the day before my homestay mother arrived to pick me up, all of the exchange students were made to sit a placement exam to determine their level of Japanese and which class they were to be placed into. Since I had barely slept the night prior and wasn’t really reviewing my textbooks until the last minute, I was only placed in Japanese 3 (they work up from 1) which was good enough for the level that I was at, at the time but if I had reviewed like I had wanted to instead of being lazy then I might have made it to Japanese level 4...but well, we’ll never know and I’m really just giving myself a hard time since I take learning languages, especially Japanese, and being a linguist super seriously. I’m a major procrastinator so of course, I put off reviewing until the last moment but I should be proud of myself for getting there and I made some really good friends that I’m still in touch with from being placed in Japanese 3.
The day after arriving was a whirlwind! I felt like I could tackle anything and was so full of energy! I took my homestay mother up on her offer to drive me to the opening ceremony that was the day after I arrived in Nagasaki which was meant to welcome all the new exchange students and the first-year Japanese students. It was a rainy day but I was full of anticipation. I wore my best outfit that I had brought along with me and had high hopes. It was a really interesting experience as we never do opening ceremonies or anything of the sort for new university students in Canada. There are normally just fairs and maybe freebies up for grabs. My homestay mother only stayed for a small part of it and then left but it was short enough anyway so I didn’t mind. We were then shipped off to the university campus as the ceremony wasn’t actually at the school and then made to attend a sort of self-introduction and general information class where we each said a little something about ourselves and were able to ask any questions about what our life was going to be like for the next four months. I quickly seemed to grab the attention of a small Vietnamese-American who we’ll call TC. She was very bright and friendly and immediately asked if we could be friends because I said that I love to travel in my self-introduction and I seemed interesting whereas no one else did (probably should have taken this as a slight red flag but I felt flattered so whatever). We pretty quickly buddied up and spent a lot of time together thereafter.
The next day was a Saturday and from the looks of my Google timeline, I mostly just walked around and explored my new neighbourhood the whole time and got to know my homestay family. Although Saturday morning was special because my homestay family took me up to Tateyama to go have a picnic next to the cherry blossoms since they were still in season. Tateyama has a “mountain” in the name but it’s really just a hill that was situated behind my homestay family’s apartment and it took about 30 minutes to walk up. I tried some kakigori (shaved ice) and played with the coolest little Shiba Inu. It was a lovely little morning and I got to experience the happy atmosphere of my neighborhood while we all took in the cherry blossoms.
I was lucky enough to be placed in the centre of Nagasaki city while most other homestays were in the countryside, closer to the school. I wouldn’t have minded that since I adore the countryside of Japan and being placed in the city meant that I was an hour away from the university. My first official week in Nagasaki was jam-packed even though I hadn’t actually started my classes yet! Even though we had already attended our opening ceremony for the semester and the school year the previous Friday, classes, for the exchange students at least, weren’t scheduled to start until the second week of April and our first week was just for us to mostly do whatever we wanted! TC and I decided to spend our Monday making a day trip to the next prefecture which was Saga. We didn’t really have any idea what we wanted to do there exactly but I had recently purchased a JR Youth 18 ticket which is somewhat similar to a JR pass and anyone can buy it, not just tourists, and you can only go on local JR trains, so no bullet trains or high-speed trains. It costs about the equivalent of $120 and is good for any 5 non-consecutive days with unlimited trips on those days. We had looked up a bunch of cool things that were in Saga prefecture but would take a really long time to get to and weren’t anywhere near the actual city so we decided just to spend a day in Saga city...although we didn’t really have any choice. You see, I’m speaking to you in hindsight knowing full well how a lot of things work now...especially the JR Youth 18 ticket. I only briefly had an idea of it when I purchased it because L’s sister told me about it when I was living in Tokyo. So when TC and I embarked on our journey to explore Saga, we boarded a bullet train from Nagasaki station. We were about an hour into our trip when a conductor came by to check our ticket and notified us that we were very mistaken but he was super kind and understood that we didn’t know we had done something wrong and let us know what our next step should be. We told him where we wanted to go so he wrote out a detailed guide with all the stations we’d need to get on and get off at (after getting off the bullet train at the next stop) with all of the times. It was really helpful and I really appreciated it but what was supposed to be only an hour-long trip to the next prefecture turned into 4 and a half hours...I felt really bad because TC had left it to me since she couldn’t speak Japanese and voiced her displeasure at it all. It wasn’t a great start to the week but I think if I were on my own and the same thing was to happen then I honestly wouldn’t have minded. When we got off the bullet train we were in a really small town in the middle of nowhere that was super quiet with nothing around, it was actually really cool. We explored that area for about an hour while we waited for the next local train. There was a big river flowing through the city, an old shrine on top of a hill, and a bunch of little, colourful wind turbines lined up one after the other leading from the station to the river.  It was lovely. That stop had the longest wait for a train, the next few stops had trains coming one after the other, but we had just missed one by being on the bullet train. After a long journey, we finally made it to Saga city but it was super quiet and no one was around, maybe because it was a Monday? It was really nice though, there was something really serene about being in a city with one main street and no one around except for a few elderly people walking about. We didn’t end up staying for long but I knew from living in Tokyo for a month that government buildings of any Japanese city are usually free for people to go up to, to the top floor and get a view of the entire city so that’s what we did and it was really nice because again, no one else was there and it was just us. Afterward, we took some photos with the cherry blossoms and headed back to Nagasaki.
The next day I decided to use my JR Youth 18 ticket again to go to Sasebo which is in Nagasaki prefecture so it wouldn’t be that long of a trip but TC didn’t want to have any more long train rides for a while so I went on my own. Sasebo is well known in the prefecture by people and is a recommended spot from locals because it’s where the American naval base is and has a different vibe to it compared to other prefectures. It is also famous for the “Sasebo burger” which is essentially just a normal-sized burger to us Westerners but was designed for the surge in marines that were living in Sasebo after World War II and became a hit to all visitors thereafter. I really just spent an afternoon walking around and admiring the area because, yes, it didn’t quite feel like the rest of Japan, but not exactly like America either. You’d have to see for yourself. I mostly wanted to visit Sasebo because there was meant to be an abandoned theme park nearby and I love that sort of stuff but unfortunately I would have needed a car to get there. The train ride in and out is what made it really special. It was absolutely gorgeous because the trip went along the coast and it was such a beautiful day, I honestly wish I had videotaped it.
The following couple of days I visited my university and more thoroughly explored the inner and outer parts of Nagasaki city, especially the biggest shrine in the area and what made that part of the city so popular, Suwajinja/ Suwa Shrine. “It is located in the northern part of the city, on the slopes of Mount Tamazono-san, and features a 277-step stone staircase leading up the mountain to the various buildings that comprise the shrine. Suwa shrine was established as a way of stopping and reversing the conversion to Christianity that was taking place in Nagasaki. In modern times it remains an important and successful center of the community.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suwa_Shrine_(Nagasaki)
I also got a job! It was the funniest thing actually. A day or so prior, I was walking with my homestay mother through town to help her go grocery shopping and I saw a little building that had an English school in it and was intrigued. Later, that night I looked the school up and decided to send them an email expressing my interest in working there part-time and if they had any open spots. I immediately got a response from the owner and he said I could come by the next day for a chat. I did just that and apparently, as I arrived, little did I know, a guy that the owner had just spent two weeks training and getting ready for the after spring break rush of students decided to quit at the last minute and do a runner. So to sum it up, after a pleasant but short conversation, I was hired on the spot. I was told to come by the next day for some quick training prep, as I had never taught English before, so that I could start the following week. He clearly needed someone after the other guy had bailed out though.
Finally, on Friday and the end of my first week in Nagasaki, all of the exchange students were taken for an overnight trip to the mountain and hot springs town of Unzen! It took us about 7 and a half hours to get there but we left early in the morning and arrived mid-afternoon so there was still plenty of time for us to do stuff. We were to stay in a traditional hotel next to a natural hot springs and several geysers. It was such a cool and mysterious area to explore with my exchange mates and TC, especially at night after soaking in the hot springs (which let me tell you was awkward considering it was my first time being naked in front of other people, other girls, but still). The air was misty because of the sulfur, smelled like rotten eggs, but that didn’t stop us from walking around in our hotel yukatas. We stayed up for a large portion of the night, took in the atmosphere and just basically partied. The next day we hiked Mount Unzen and it was awesome, the view was glorious. It was also just a really nice bonding experience and a better way for us all to get to know each other. After our hike, we were taken to the small town of Obama which wasn’t named after the former U.S. president but did have a statue of him. It was also a seaside town and was popular for its free public hot spring foot baths which we indulged in after having a delicious nabe lunch. It was an unforgettable overnight trip and did its job of helping all the exchange students get to know each other better (more detail here and below).
The following week consisted of more city exploration, settling in, my first shifts at the English school, some administrative university stuff like signing up for classes the old school way with pen and paper - gotta love Japan - and actually attending classes. It may seem a bit mundane but I enjoyed every minute of it. Oh I forgot to mention, another reason why Nagasaki is so cool to explore and why I never get tired of it is there is a big Portuguese and Dutch influence mixed in with the Japanese aesthetic because those were the first countries that Japan opened up trade to on the port of Nagasaki between the 16th and 19th centuries. To add to that, there are also several hidden Christian sites that are also UNESCO World Heritage sites around the area because when Christianity first appeared with the Dutch and the Portuguese, it was outlawed and forbidden.
In the next couple of weeks, I went strawberry picking with my homestay family which was spectacular! They had a family friend who owned a strawberry farm and we were allowed to pick an unlimited number of delicious, fresh strawberries. I’m telling you we picked enough strawberries to last us for the next few weeks and I got a strawberry coma from the amount that I ate. It was great. After strawberry picking, my homestay family took me to a restaurant nearby the farm where all the ingredients were locally sourced. A few days after that, I spent the day with a few of my new friends as well as TC and we went to the Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium and, boy, was that cool. We saw so many species of Penguin with all sorts of personalities. There was something that put a bit of a hamper in our day and that had to do with a guy who my friend so eloquently nicknamed as “kimoi” (Japanese for gross). I suppose it all started a  day or so before my friends and I decided to meet up for the aquarium. I was sitting in the lounge at uni waiting for some people when a Japanese guy approached me and wanted to chat and obviously that was no problem so I obliged because I’m always down to make new friends. He  seemed nice and friendly enough but we slowly moved from small talk to him mentioning a girl that I am now friends with but at the time didn’t know so well even though we were in the same class. He began talking shit about her and how mean she was to him and….how he wanted to kill her...I was like whoa ok no need for that, I’m sure it was a misunderstanding and I tried to cheer him up and his mood did end up getting better and then he just started complimenting me and saying how nice I was and I honestly didn’t know how to take what was happening. I honestly should have taken it more seriously but it was really just a passing conversation that I had with him since we were the only ones in the lounge and he seemed to be friends with a few other people that I had befriended. It was very strange though especially since Japanese people aren’t known to speak ill of others. Anyway, someone from the group of people I met had invited him to hang out with us at the aquarium and I was ok with it at first but...it turns out that he took our small talk that happened by chance as a sign that I liked him??? And wanted to date him?? He assumed that this whole day at the aquarium was our date and I somehow turned into his girlfriend and the other people that were there were just...third, fourth, fifth, and sixth wheels….It was bizarre and I was thoroughly creeped out. He was clearly unstable. The whole time at the aquarium he was trying to find a chance to be alone with me and get the other guys to leave but I kept making sure we were always with everyone and finally one of my guy friends took one for the team and said he’ll distract him by insisting he wants to hang out with him somewhere else while the rest of us headed back to the city. We ended the day by having a much needed calming visit to the Nagasaki Museum of History and Culture and spent a couple of hours learning about our new home.
Then, on the 27th of April, my birthday, I was pleasantly surprised by a home celebration planned by my homestay mother. She got me a little Sailor Moon figure since I mentioned how much I love the character Sailor Moon, ordered chiraishi bowls for all of us which is essentially sashimi over rice, and some cake. I was absolutely delighted. It was a fantastic day if I do say so myself especially since earlier in the day when I was in class my new friends had all bought me snacks and wished me happy birthday. I was further spoiled after work the next day by my boss taking me and my coworkers out for an izakaya dinner, obviously I don’t drink but the food at izakayas are always sooooo good. It was definitely one of my more favourite birthdays, I was 22 and having the time of my life.
I decided to end off April and spend Golden Week, which is a week at the end of April and beginning of May filled with national holidays and is thus called “Golden Week” by making a trip to Busan, South Korea with TC. She found a deal for us to take a 3-hour ferry from Fukuoka to Busan and stay in a Couchsurfing place (which was to be my first of many). I soon learned from this trip that even though TC claimed to be travel savvy, she doesn’t really do her research very well. But I’ll get to that in a bit. We embarked on our journey from Nagasaki station by highway bus (which was the cheapest option) to Fukuoka to take our ferry. When we arrived, we quickly got lost. South Korea, well Busan, isn’t quite as easy to figure out as Japan but that’s mostly because neither of us spoke Korean. We spent a while trying to find wifi and our host’s place. We were excited to be able to explore the city of Busan at any rate and spoke to a few locals along our way who could speak a little English. When we finally found and arrived at our host’s place. We found out that our host didn’t have a bed or a blanket or anything for us to sleep on, just literally the hardwood floor of his kitchen in a small one-bedroom apartment. I mean I was grateful to have shelter, I was, but damn. TC complained that the couple of other times that she used Couchsurfing she always had her own room and bed and didn’t know why this happened but being that I now have lots of experience in Couchsurfing, I can tell you that TC was either lying or that she must have had luck of the draw with her previous Couchsurfing trips and just requested to stay with the first person that popped up in Busan. Normally, when you look on Couchsurfing you can tell what the host is offering, where you get your own room or a shared room, how much privacy you get and pictures of the place but this guy must have had nothing up on his profile otherwise I don’t see how TC would have requested to stay with him...actually I still don’t see why she requested to stay with him. I never stay with someone if they have no references, pictures, or if it’s a shared space. It was such an uncomfortable 6 days because I really was not prepared to be sleeping on a hardwood floor with no cover but the clothes from my bag. The host was really nice though and he could speak English well so that was a plus. I mostly blame TC for most likely not actually reading his profile because then I could have prepared myself.
We spent our first full day in Busan and the last day of April at the Gamcheon Culture Village which is considered the “Asian Santorini” for its colourful landscape. TC had arranged for us to meet up with another couchsurfing host and his guest. One of whom was a Vietnamese ex-pat and an American from Connecticut that had been spending the past few months traveling around Asia. He was really cool and open-minded, we both connected with the two guys really quickly and had a blast exploring the village, trying street food and heading to downtown Busan. The American guy, Z, reminded me that travel shouldn’t be about seeing as much as possible but just absorbing where you are and taking in everything as opposed to getting so much done but never actually experiencing it. We walked for ages and thoroughly investigated every nook and cranny of this intriguing village. We also hiked up to the top and took an amazing view of all of the colourful buildings and artwork. I ate a loooot of street food that day and honestly each thing was under a dollar, it was great! Two things stood out to me from my street food adventure and that was Beondegi which is silkworm pupae; bitter but not overly gross and hotteok; my absolute favourite thing that I tried even though I’m not really much of a sweet tooth. It was a deliciously sweet, caramelly thick pancake with peanuts. One of the reasons why I love Busan so much is that the food is so cheap and delicious so I really did eat a lot of it….Since we hit it off with these two other couch surfers, we decided to meet up with them a few more times before leaving Busan. Later that night when we got back to our host’s apartment, we were invited to have fried chicken with him and his friend--an absolute must-have if you’re ever in Korea.

Weird question, but you seem really productive despite seeming to have a constantly fluctuating routine, with both your work and your hobbies. Most people think having a solid routine is the only way to increase your productivity but I've pretty much given up on having a routine since my life seems similar to yours--a lot of travel, weird and always changing work hours. Do you have any advice on how you deal with routine and productivity in spite of that?
Oh gosh, this is definitely something I struggle with a LOT, and I’m not sure I’ve found a coping strategy that works for me yet. But the small things that have been helping have been (1) keeping a routine in my planning even if the stuff I do changes dramatically (even if I’m traveling, I have a notebook where, every Sunday, I list all the stuff that has specific dates/times for the following week, I list the stuff where I still have to come up with a date/time, and I list the stuff I’ve gotta do that week for sure), and (2) finding multiple ways to approach the same goals that I can tailor to my level of energy/spare time on any given week (so this week I’m just not in a super exercisey mindset and can’t rely on having the motivation to run every day, but instead I’m making an extra effort not to eat out this week—lower-effort for my current state of mind, but all toward the same goal of feeling a bit healthier overall).
I’m also very cognizant of how little time at work is actually spent working, so I try not to feel guilty if the total number of hours worked is low as long as the work’s getting done. I’m an incredibly routine-oriented person, but it’s been a bit freeing to slowly and steadily teach myself that stuff just has to get finished one way or another, and the easiest way to do that is to just focus on specific goals and let the rest be flexible.
Anyway, yesterday I was thinking of this ask and was like, “You know, I’ll just write up what I do on Monday as an example, and I bet things will go hilariously awry.” And so they did.
So here’s what my weekly planning list looked like last night:
Dated Events:
Call with paper coauthor at 9AM Monday
Call with leadership academy planning committee at 10AM Monday
Call with peer mentoring group at 9AM Tuesday
Sit in on class at 11:30AM Tuesday and Thursday
Seminars Wednesday at 3PM, Thursday at 4PM, and Friday at 3PM
D&D Saturday at 6PM
Undated Events:
Coordinating abstract submission for an upcoming conference (early week)
Setting up Skype calls with a couple friends I haven’t talked to in a while (late week)
Assorted Priorities:
Book hotel for work travel in July
Accept journal article review request and scope out how long that’ll take
Review some materials sent out for my peer mentoring call
Revise my paper and submit the revisions before the Monday deadline
Get my driver’s license renewed (the joys of yearly visa renewal… your license has to be renewed yearly as well)
Put together a schedule for a biweekly Twitter feature highlighting new publications for the account I run for a subcommittee in my field
Respond to an e-mail about a conference in January about some weird deadline that popped up for next week
Come up with conference abstract ideas before the as-yet-unscheduled meeting
Fill out some action items in advance of my 10AM Monday call
And some more specific checklists for four research projects I’m focusing on this week
I purposely try to group conference calls together, because I currently share my office and feel weird doing video calls when she’s stuck in frame five feet away from me while she tries to work. So Monday seems like a good day to work from home, and I can squeeze in Tuesday’s call before heading to the office that morning. I’ll be in the office Tuesday-Friday, which means I’ll be able to attend those seminars and classes with no problem. I have most of my D&D prep done already because we ended early last game, so I can leave that until Saturday. The only thing I might have to shuffle to next week is the driver’s license thing, because it’ll take three hours and I have to account for finding a Lyft there and back. Okay. Aces.
Wake up this morning to find my internet’s out, and I also somehow left the hard drive with all my research on it at work. Hoo boy. But staring over my to-do list, I think I can set today up as a “big picture” day and not have to do any actual coding, so I’m still okay to work from home. I can also phone in to the conference calls instead of using the video call software. All good.
Luckily, the internet comes back right before my first call of the day. Said call is with someone who also happens to be a dean, so she has a tendency to get held up at meetings, so I take that delay to look at the action items for my second call (I mean… if you send me action items at 8PM on a Sunday I am not gonna touch them until Monday morning).
When she did make it online, we chatted about the new paper, and she strongly encouraged me to send it to our other coauthors in case they have suggestions. We’re submitting on Monday, which is way too short-notice to read a 20-page research paper, but they already read the pre-revision version in great detail, so I shot them an e-mail that included a summary of the substantial changes and a note to the effect that if any of them want more time to look at this stuff, I can beg the editor for an extension on their behalf. Minor crisis averted.
Second meeting is very intense and structured. Everyone has to volunteer to organize and lead two webinars in the next three months, so I go ahead and volunteer for the two April ones so I’ll get it out of the way early. Aaand the first webinar is at 1PM this Friday. Okay. I’ll work from home that morning so I can do last-minute prep, then head into the office in time for the 3PM seminar. No biggie. One organizer puts together a draft schedule, and I send a quick e-mail suggesting a different use of one of the ten-minute time slots. One of the other organizers requests another conference call tomorrow instead of e-mails. I tell them I can only do after 4PM, if I leave work early. Eh. We’ll see how that works out.
After the call, I get through a bunch of small tasks in maybe 20 minutes: hotel booked, Twitter posts prepped, review request accepted (not due until May 20, so plenty of time on that), conference deadline e-mail chain started. I spend the rest of the time before noon getting sucked into an article someone sent me about the myths surrounding undergraduate grade inflation and then reading up on the peer mentoring materials for our call tomorrow. A couple other minor e-mails pop up (scheduling the precise date of a conference mixer in January, that kind of thing) and I manage to deal with them right away.
Lunch! Clearly working from home means I should take the opportunity to indulge in some fine cuisine, some leisurely cooking that highlights—
I heat up a microwave meal (chicken couscous) and watch YouTube videos for an hour.
Back in it! I write up some abstract submission ideas and make a valiant attempt at setting up a time to talk about them, but it looks like that might have to wait until next week. We’re still a ways before the deadline, so that’s okay.
Mmmmmmm someone on Twitter mentions a conference in Germany in September and a workshop in Colorado in July that both look like a good fit for my research. I’m in a situation where I have a big chunk of travel funding that’s going to disappear unless it gets spent in the next year. Oh no. But also oh yes.
Just in case, I put together a couple point-form ideas for stuff to propose that I can bring to the people holding the purse strings.
The rest of the afternoon is spent putting together weekly goals for four of my research projects: each one involves a collaboration with a different person, so I’d like to be able to send each of them an e-mail with at least one new thing to share about that project this week. Just in case that doesn’t happen, though, I rank them from most to least important. Worst-case scenario, I don’t have to send any of them this week, but it’ll make next week tougher if I don’t.
It’s only about 3:30 at this point, but honestly, I’m feeling a bit exhausted and overwhelmed (some of the e-mail chains have gone through five or six replies at this point and keeping it all straight is giving me a headache), so I opt to get some groceries and call it a day.
I may have added some stuff, but I got a lot crossed off today! Here’s how that last checklist looks at the end of the day:
Assorted Priorities:
Revise my paper and submit the revisions before the Monday deadline
Project #1: come up with a new exploratory figure and send to Person A.
Project #2: summarize the early results I started last week and send to Person B, along with an ask to see whether he’d be up for me presenting this stuff in Europe in November.
Project #3: improve on figures I showed last month and send to Person C.
Project #4: prepare a rough outline of the next paper to send to Person D.
Not having my work hard drive means I was able to just focus on the stuff that wasn’t specific to research today. In all the chaos of today, I’ve set myself up well for a research-heavy rest of the week where I (hopefully) won’t have to worry about non-research stuff or big changes to the schedule and can just burrow into research, emerging for occasional seminar/webinar breaks. A good Monday, all around.

Return of The Monday Menu
Tumblr media
Here we are, almost February, and already 2023 has been kicking my behind. My intention is now to kick back, because, friends, I miss writing, and I miss being able to engage with readers when they comment or send me DMs or asks or... just plain contact me in any way.  Rumbelle IS a community after all!
Speaking of communities - if you haven’t already, dear fellow Rumbellers, show your support for your writers and artist who bring you fics and pics and gifs etc and go and cast your ballot in the inaugural Chipped Cup Awards.
For those of you that are new to the fandom, or have been hibernating (and who could blame anyone for that given the state of the world) the past couple of years, last year the Admin for the TEAs (The Espenson Awards) decided it would be the last year.  Not wanting such an important part of the Rumbelle community to disappear, a group of brave souls got together to keep the event going under the new name of the Chipped Cup Awards.
The ballot form for this year’s awards is here.
Hopefully I will be able to find time to get some writing done this week, and here’s the plan for what this week might look like:
Monday - The Monday Menu - what it says on the box. A plan for the week.
Writing this week - Still Waters
As always my inbox is open for thoughts, questions, asks… I don’t restrict people to any particular day of the week, and I - like most fic authors - love to discuss things to do with fics and fandom.
I just want to add a shout out to those readers who have left me comments and kudos these last several days.  It has not gone un-noticed.  love you guys for those votes of confidence..
Talk to me, peeps! My inbox is lonely,

be my fire in the cold (and I'll be waiting by the mistletoe) - 1/25

[Fanfiction] // [ao3]
[Next Chapter]
Summary: When the production stage manager for George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker, starring one Brittany S. Pierce, is fired seven shows into its run, Santana is hired and thrown into the production with barely any preparation.
Notes: So remember that little something for Christmas I mentioned back in November? Yeah, this is that. And by “little” I actually mean a 25 chapter fic I’ve been working on since October. This is why I haven’t posted anything for so long, because I’ve been working on this since then. I didn’t want to say anything until I knew for sure that I’d be able to finish it, but here it is! I’ll be posting one chapter a day until Christmas, hopefully around the same time everyday but I can’t guarantee that for sure lol.
If you have any questions about the technical terms in the theatre just ask and I’ll try my best to answer! Obviously not everything will be perfect since most of my theatre experience is from the pit band and what I’ve learned from Broadway videos, but artistic liberties and all that. I’ll also be adding links to each chapter for the ones before and after once I post them too! So hopefully it will be easy to navigate on tumblr, and if not just go to ao3 or fanfiction lmao.
All chapter titles are from “Smile at Snow” by dodie.
Chapter 1: how were we to know
///
“Simpatico, it’s Italian for ‘sympathetic.’ Hearts beating to the same pulse. That’s what music does for one, you know—I mean, for two. For more. It trains hearts to lean in the same direction. Sympathetically.” ― Gregory Maguire, Hiddensee: A Tale of the Once and Future Nutcracker
///
When Santana accepted the job offer as production stage manager for The Nutcracker, a prestigious and professional production, she didn’t really think that she was going to be thrown right in the deep end; she assumed that the old production stage manager was taking a leave of absence and she would be able to shadow him for a couple days, not that he had been unexpectedly fired on Friday morning and that she would be shadowing the assistant stage manager for two shows on Saturday and running her first one by the Sunday matinee.
And yet, here she is, dodging half dressed dancers and props bigger than she is, only two hours before the matinee, trailing after two blonde women who are frantically talking on their phones, occasionally exchanging them before resuming their frantic conversations. Usually Santana thrives on the organized chaos of a production, but she can do little more than duck under stretching limbs and just try to keep track of the flashes of blonde ahead of her.
It’s not that she’s overwhelmed, per se, she’s done other ballets and she’s done Broadway, she’s done community theatre and she’s done a short stint for an opera, she’s done touring companies and she’s done Off-Broadway, she’s even done a couple other productions of The Nutcracker itself; she’s been working as a stage manager for years, and she’s damn good at her job. It’s just, usually she has weeks or months of rehearsals before a show begins; at the very least, she usually gets to meet the rest of the stage management team before she’s thrown in the deep-end for the first show.
Holly and Quinn, the director and the assistant stage manager, eventually make it to the call desk, a tiny little alcove just off stage right, with monitors on the front of the stage and the pit. There’s a man in a wheelchair already squished in the tiny space, his glasses slipping down his nose, staring intently at the screen and muttering into his headset.
“Artie,” Quinn greets, and the man offers her a half-hearted salute. “Artie,” Quinn repeats, waiting until the man finally glances up before she gestures to Santana, “This is Santana Lopez, the new production stage manager.”
Artie blinks and offers her a grin, reaching over to shake Santana’s hand, almost running over Holly’s foot in the tiny space. “Nice to meet you,” he says, “Your resume is a mile long.”
Santana shrugs as she shakes his hand; it’s a little clammy and she wipes her hand on her black jeans as subtly as she can as leans back. “It kinda has to be to land this job.”
Artie laughs and nods as Holly finally hangs up the phone. “I forgot how frantic this place is outside of rehearsals,” she groans. She rummages around on the tiny desk, much to Artie’s poorly-concealed annoyance as she displaces knickknacks and rearranges papers, until she produces Santana’s new prompt book. She passes it to Santana, who’s fingers are already itching to crack the spine of the binder and start writing her own notes in; Artie hands her a spare pen with a knowing grin. “Today’s show is going to be a little insane,” Holly explains, “But you’ll do fine, sweet cheeks. You have a steep learning curve.” Santana’s not really sure how Holly could possibly know that, seeing as the last time they worked together Santana was still in college and barely an assistant to the assistant stage manager, but she nods anyways. “I’m going to get Quinn to give you the tour while I get ready for the matinee, and then we’ll hole up in the stage manager’s office and go through the show from the screens in there. For the evening show—” Holly’s phone phone rings and cuts her off, and she groans as she answers it, waving Quinn and Santana off towards the vague direction of the rest of the theatre, and they take their cue to leave just as Holly starts getting heated with whatever poor soul is on the other end of the line.
Santana flips through the book as she trails after Quinn, half-listening to her explanations and introductions; it’s second nature to dodge props and racks of costumes and stretching dancers by this point, even in the dimmed lights of backstage, so she keeps most of her attention focused on reading through the calls even though she’s never actually seen the blocking. She inwardly groans, the next couple shows really are going to be absolutely insane.
When Quinn takes a breath in her explanation of the Christmas tree prop and the mechanical issues they’ve been having lately, Santana finally glances up from the prompt book. “So why didn’t they just promote you?” she asks, “Seems like it would have been easier that way.”
Quinn’s head whips around to glare at her. “What’s that supposed to mean?” she snaps. Santana glances up at Quinn and frowns at the look on her face. “Wow, cool the fires there, Beelzebub. I meant why would they hire someone new when you obviously know the show already.”
“Oh,” Quinn says, and she has the grace to look a little sheepish, “This is only the second production I’ve worked on, and it’s my first big one too. They offered, since I’ve been working with the show since the very beginning, but I’m nowhere near ready to run a production myself, especially something as big as this.”
Santana nods and returns to flipping through the prompt book while Quinn returns to narrate what seems to be the entire history of the theatre. It’s not like Santana’s uninterested in learning about how old this production is, or how they use the original props, or what famous person happened to sneeze right where they’re standing, it’s just priorities; Santana’s supposed to be running this production by tomorrow and she hasn’t even skimmed through the second act in the prompt book. Holly warned her that it would be crazy during her interview, because Holly had to be across the country for a mandated meeting tomorrow morning and would be leaving Santana, who only knew the names of about five people in the entire building, to fend for herself.
It’s not that she doesn’t love a good challenge, it’s just frustrating when her pay-check and reputation hinges on said challenge.
She ducks under a large candy cane swinging towards her head and groans at the thought.
//
Quinn leads her to the principal hallway, squeezing between stray dancers wandering the tiny hallway. The walls are lined with racks of costumes and wigs, and Santana takes a moment to admire the care put into the costumes; Quinn said that this production has been reusing their costumes from the very first performance, all the way back in 1954, and despite the slightly musty smell clinging to the fabric, they’ve obviously been well cared for. Quinn knocks on a door halfway down the hallway, and Santana quickly snaps out of her admiration to catch up to her. The name on the door reads The Nutcracker/The Prince, and a man Santana already knows well opens the door.
“Santana!” he exclaims, “I didn’t realize you were actually starting already!” Quinn blinks and glances between them, her face a picture of confusion, as Mike pulls Santana into a tight hug.
“You two know each other?” she asks slowly.
Santana rolls her eyes and halfheartedly struggles to escape from Mike’s embrace. “Unfortunately he’s been dating my best friend since college,” she complains as Mike finally releases her, but not before giving her an obnoxious kiss on the crown of her head. Santana swats at him a little but he just continues to grin at her; dating my best friend is an understatement of their relationship, because Santana counts him as one of two people she truly trusts with everything and anything, but it’s not like she’s going to acknowledge that when he’s being irritatingly affectionate just to annoy her.
Quinn’s hazel eyes glow with amusement. “Oh, so you’re the infamous Santana that Tina’s always talking about.”
“All bad things, I promise,” Tina calls from the couch.
“Oh, shut up,” Santana snipes as she turns a withering glare on her. Tina just rolls her eyes, as unfazed by Santana’s snark as she was their first day of college, and continues reading her magazine, her feet propped up on the coffee table.
“Alright,” Quinn says slowly, “Uh, I guess we should go meet Brittany then.”
“She’s not in yet,” Mike says. “She had that appointment, remember?”
“She said she’d be here in time for half hour,” Tina adds.
“Right,” Quinn shrugs and glances at Santana, “I guess you’ll meet her between shows then.”
“I mean, I still don’t know half the stage management team,” Santana says dryly, “One more person won’t make a difference.”
Tina chuckles. “Brittany’s just lucky that she doesn’t have to see your annoying face for a couple hours yet.”
“Get me out of here before we have to send the understudy on,” Santana comments mildly, Quinn grins and leads them out the door.
“Love you, Santana,” Tina and Mike chorus.
“Yeah, whatever,” she grumbles as she pulls the door shut firmly so they don’t see her begrudgingly fond smile; of course, being her best friends, they don’t need to see it to know it’s there.
//
Quinn weaves through the theatre and points out people that Santana’s sure she’s going to forget about in roughly three seconds. Usually by this point Santana has all the company and crew members memorized, but she’s starting to realize that this entire experience is going to be one stumbling improvisation after another for the first little bit. She meets the conductor, Will Schuester, who Quinn introduces as Schue; Kurt Hummel is the head of costumes and he talks rapid fire as he explains some important quick changes while Santana scribbles down notes in her prompt book; Finn Hudson and Noah “Puck” Puckerman, who leers at her and Quinn while Santana resists the urge to make fun of his nickname, work in props and are running the department while the head, Emma Pillsbury, is out sick; Quinn rolls her eyes when she introduces her to the sound crew and its head, Blaine Anderson, and the sound his voice already sets Santana’s teeth on edge; Unique Adams explains some of the more complicated lighting calls from her booth and Santana adds some more notes into her prompt book; Quinn points out the head of the automaton department, Dave Karofsky, who is busy wrestling with some of the ropes on a fly; Lauren Zizes is the fourth and final member of the stage management team, and she gives Santana a wide smirk and a good luck before turning back to talking to Artie over her headset.
Quinn also introduces her to some of the corps dancers and kids, but she doesn’t pay much attention because she has more important people to memorize before the show starts, like the name of every department head that she’s pretty sure she’s already forgotten.
Quinn hands her a headset with an apologetic glance. “I know it’s pretty overwhelming—”
“I’m not overwhelmed,” Santana protests automatically. Quinn just keeps staring at her blankly. “I’m a little bit whelmed at the most,” Santana finally concedes, and Quinn snorts in amusement.
“This is going to be interesting,” she says as the announcement booms throughout the theatre for half hour.
Santana settles the headset over her ears, and it eases her instantly; there’s a crackle of static as Quinn stands too close, but she quickly takes a couple steps away and then she grins at Santana, her teeth flashing eerie blue in the dim backstage lights. “I usually run stage right while Zizes does stage left, and Artie runs the call desk,” she explains. “I’m not sure where Holly is but—”
“In the stage manager’s office, sweet cheeks,” drawls through their headsets.
Quinn glances at Santana to point her in the right direction, but Santana is already heading that way.
//
Holly barely pauses in her near constant stream of phone calls to talk to her. It’s been years since Santana last worked with Holly as a director, back when Santana was just an overtired and overworked college student, but if she knows one thing about the older woman it’s that Holly’s practically a professional at improvising on the fly.
Which means she’s barely surprised when Holly explains that her flight got moved up and that Santana will have to learn the entire show from backstage with Quinn instead of from the comfort of the office where Holly could teach her the blocking over the screen pointed at centre stage. Santana’s done The Nutcracker three different times in three different cities, so she knows the show, which only marginally helps her out because every single production has its quirks, and she has absolutely no clue what to expect with this one.
But she tries not to think of that, and instead nods at Holly and adjusts her headset, clutching her prompt book like it’s a life preserver that’s going to keep her from drowning, which, she realizes, is actually fairly apt. She heads out of the hallway of theatre offices to find Quinn backstage, absently listening to her have an argument with that Blaine guy from sound over the headsets until Zizes interrupts with a particularly harsh quip regarding Blaine’s mother and where, exactly, he can stick it, and the argument dies pretty quickly after that. Quinn is pinching her nose when Santana arrives, only a couple minutes before the five minute call. She seems grateful that Santana’s there and pushes her headset off her ear for a brief moment, tugging the mic away from her mouth and waiting until Santana does the same. “The dance captain for the flower corps just called and she’s stuck on the subway in Brooklyn.”
Santana glances around. “Okay?” she says slowly.
“What do we do?”
Santana blinks at Quinn. “I barely know who the fuck any of these people are, what exactly do you expect me to do?”
Quinn rolls her eyes. “This is a you problem, you’re the production stage manager.”
“For like a three minutes,” Santana mutters but flips through the prompt book anyways. “The flower corps don’t come in until the end of the second act,” Santana says slowly, “If she’s not here by intermission we’ll deal with it then.”
Quinn nods and pushes her headset back into place so she can relay the order to Zizes and Artie. Dancers have already started to gather in the wings, doing last minute stretches, and the team of stagehands Santana still hasn’t met yet dart between them for last minute checks. She spots the two lumbering guys from props heading towards the Christmas tree before they’re hidden behind the fly being lowered to the floor, and then the lights are dimming and the announcement to put cellphones away is booming, and the curtain rises as the first strains of the orchestra fill the theatre.
Santana’s thankful that she already has some experience with the show, because otherwise she would be making even less sense of the chaos backstage than she currently is. Santana mostly ignores Quinn, instead focusing on the blocking and comparing it to her prompt book in the dim, but somehow still harsh blue light backstage. Santana finds herself slipping easily into her position, and soon enough she’s adding her own voice to Quinn’s on the headset. Santana’s always had an instinct for stage management from her very first experience in a theatre, for the mechanical, repetitive, and yet still unpredictable nature of the job, and the instinct has served her well over the years, and before she knows it, intermission is starting and Quinn is clapping her on the shoulder with a grin.
Despite the chaos around them and the too warm weight of Quinn’s hand, Santana has a feeling she’s going to really like the challenge of this production; it will keep her busy and distracted, at the very least, which is something she always needs during the month of December.
//
Santana’s always found the second act of The Nutcracker to be a little boring without the frantic energy of the party and then the battle in the first act, and she feels almost lazy as Quinn helps herd children into place in the wings; they may be tiny professionals, but it’s only the eighth show so far, and the chaos of backstage can be a little overwhelming, especially for the younger dancers. It’s not until Quinn nudges her and points out the Sugar Plum Fairy, giggling and whispering with some kids, that Santana finally notices the presence of third principal. The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy is always the most interesting to Santana in the second act because the energy of the audience always changes and perks up as soon as that first pluck of the string section drifts through the theatre. Santana creeps closer to the front of the stage as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Brittany, leaves the safe darkness of backstage and emerges into the harsh onstage lights.
The strings pluck the first chord as Brittany enters the stage en pointe, her limbs long and poised with an easy grace, her stiff classic tutu moving easily with her waist as she makes her way to centre stage. On the first note of the celesta, Santana can see the exhilarated smile on Brittany’s face for a split second before she blinks and falls into character even before the second note is ringing out. She moves with the music as if the conductor is pulling on her puppet strings and Santana forgets to concentrate on the blocking and the musical cues in favour of just watching Brittany.
She looks like something off of a ballerina music box, beautiful and delicate, but as she spins across the stage Santana can see the strength and power in her legs, the certain grace and ease in her movements, the concentration and glow in her eyes. Santana’s seen a lot of dancers through her years of stage managing, enough to recognize that spark that differentiates people who dance for a living and for those who live to dance, and Santana can’t help the wide smile spreading across her face as Brittany draws to a stop and the crowd bursts into applause; having that spark in one of the principals is rare, and more than Santana could ever hope for in any production.
//
She manages to survive both shows with only a little bit of nausea at the thought that she’s supposed to be in charge of the entire production tomorrow; Holly left during intermission of the first show, but Quinn, Zizes, and Artie already work well together, and Santana just needs to find a way to fit herself among them without causing too much friction.
She wanders down the principal hallway, on her way to meet up with Tina before leaving the theatre, when she hears a persistent, loud banging against the wall right beside her. Santana jumps but manages to bite down on her shriek and glances wildly at the wall. The banging pauses for a second before resuming and Santana makes her way to the closest door, poking her head in without knocking; it’s not like anyone would hear her knock over the banging anyways.
She finds the Sugar Plum Fairy, her blonde hair still pinned up but dressed in loose sweats and a baggy sweater, smacking her ballet shoes against the wall with a focus Santana’s rarely seen in anyone, least of all in someone banging their shoe against a wall. Santana clears her throat and Brittany starts a little and quickly glances up.
“Hi,” she grins, giving the shoe one more firm smack against the wall, “You must be Santana.”
Santana swallows the retort on the tip of her tongue when the bluest eyes she’s ever seen land on hers, somehow sparkling even in the poor lighting of the dressing room. She manages a nod as Brittany bends her shoe a little before tossing it onto the coffee table where another shoe, a tiny sewing kit, a hot glue gun, an x-acto knife, and a small pile of resin are scattered. Santana glances at the wall, littered with tiny smudges of pink from Brittany’s banging, and laughs a little, finally realizing why Brittany’s beating the wall with her shoes so violently. “Who knew the Sugar Plum Fairy bangs her own shoes,” she says.
Brittany’s face creases in a smile, thin lips curling up a little lopsided on one side, her cheeks scrunching her blue eyes until they’re catlike and sparkling, and Santana’s chest does this weird spasming, fluttering thing that she tries to ignore. “Well, the Land of Sweets is pretty low on funds,” she says easily.
Santana laughs a little before she steps forward, holding out her hand. “Santana Lopez,” she formally introduces, “Mostly confused, new production stage manager.”
Brittany takes her hand, her fingers sure and strong as they wrap around Santana’s. “Brittany S. Pierce,” she says, “Sugar Plum Fairy and professional shoe banger.” Brittany’s nose wrinkles adorably as she realizes what she just said. “Ew, not like that.”
Santana giggles and only briefly wonders at how easily Brittany coaxed that sound out of her; usually it’s only Tina and Mike that make her comfortable enough to giggle instead of smirk, and that’s mostly because she’s known them for far too long, but there’s something easy about Brittany’s smile that already makes her drop her guard a little bit. “That wouldn’t even be the weirdest thing I’ve seen someone in the company bang,” Santana whispers.
Brittany’s eyes widen comically and she leans forwards eagerly. “Seen?” she exclaims.
Santana shudders, suddenly regretting that she brought it up when the image burned into her memory starts replaying for her. “Unfortunately.”
Brittany giggles and clasps her hands together, rocking backwards on her heels. “Like a train wreck, right?” she asks knowingly.
Santana blinks out of the memory, focusing on the much more pleasing image of Brittany’s sparkling eyes. “Definitely.”
Brittany laughs a little, relaxing again, and there’s a small lull that would normally make Santana fidget with her hands, but Brittany just smiles softly at her and Santana finds herself smiling in return. “So, are you ready for the shows tomorrow?” Brittany finally asks, her voice quiet and warm.
Santana shrugs. “They’re going to be,” she pauses and glances up at the ceiling as she thinks of the right word, “interesting, to say the least.”
The fingers of Brittany’s right hand twitch towards her arm, but freeze a moment later and drop back to her side. Santana wonders what it would feel like to have those clever fingers grazing over her skin, but manages to snap out of her daydreaming with only a little bit of heat in her checks when Brittany speaks again. “I’m sure you’ll do great,” she says easily, “I was talking to Quinn after the show and she was saying that you were a quick study.”
Santana blinks. “Really?” she wonders. It’s not that she thought Quinn would hate her or anything, but, in Santana’s experience, shoving a new person into the production this late always ends up having issues; when sometimes she covers for other stage managers there’s almost always a little bit of tension as everyone tries to adjust to each other.
Brittany nods easily, a small smile curling her lips. “She said that you fit in really well.”
“Well, that’s a relief. I was so worried that everyone would hate me or something,” Santana says, before blinking in surprise. She hadn’t meant to admit that, she’s barely talked about her reservations regarding this job with Tina or Mike, yet somehow Brittany is on the receiving end of Santana’s sudden lack of a filter. “Um, you were amazing tonight, by the way,” she redirects quickly.
Pink blooms in splotches across the peak of Brittany’s cheeks despite the fact that Santana knows that this can’t be the first compliment that Brittany’s ever got. “Thanks,” she mumbles bashfully, and something in Santana’s chest twists when she realizes she really wants to see that blush again, and she’s about to go about doing just that when a voice interrupts them from the door.
“Santana?”
Brittany and Santana both turn to the door, finding Tina smirking from the doorway. Santana feels her face heat up for absolutely no reason as Tina’s eyes dart between her and Brittany. “I thought I heard you in here,” she explains, “I see you’ve finally met Brittany.”
Brittany brightens a little. “Your battle scene was great today,” she greets, “Sam said you actually nailed him in the eye.”
Tina laughs, her face opening and brightening at the compliment. “I threw it weird and didn’t even think I would hit him, but he slipped on his turn and instead of missing him I got him right in the face.”
Brittany grins. “Mike said it was glorious.”
Tina chuckles before glancing at Santana. “You coming? Mike’s already impatiently opened a bottle of wine at home to celebrate your first day.”
Santana hesitates. “There’s two shows tomorrow,” she protests weakly, “And I’ve gotta go through the prompt book a couple more times.”
“The matinee’s not until one,” Tina says easily, more than used to having to drag Santana away from her work.
Brittany glances back and forth between the two friends before settling her eyes on Santana, and the warmth in Brittany’s gaze makes that thing spasm in her chest again. “You only have one first day,” she says wisely.
Santana sighs and glances between the two. “Fine,” she mutters. Tina cheers from the doorway, but Brittany just gives her a quiet smile.
“Have fun,” Brittany says.
Santana sucks in a sharp breath through her nose before offering Brittany a small smile in return. “Thanks,” she murmurs, “See you tomorrow.”
Brittany waves her goodbyes to them as Tina drags her out of the dressing room, marching Santana to the stage manager’s office so they can collect Santana’s jacket and prompt book before she can change her mind and insist on going back to her apartment without celebratory drinks. Tina’s lucky enough to have a good parking space in the building’s parkade, being a principal and all, and they head to the elevators that will take them to the parking level in comfortable silence.
“So what do you think?” Tina says as she starts her car and backs out of her parking space. “How do you think it will go?”
“It’s going to be challenging,” Santana admits, “But, interesting, I think.”
“Oh, yeah?”
“Yeah,” Santana bites her lip but once she realizes Tina is sufficiently distracted by watching traffic for her chance to pull out of the parkade her reluctance fades, “I have a good feeling about this show.”
Tina apparently wasn’t distracted as Santana thought she was and glances at Santana out of the corner of her eyes, her eyes curious and intrigued in the brightness of the streetlights and taillights around them. “Really? I haven’t heard you say that about a show in years,” she says carefully.
Blue eyes and a soft smile come unbidden to her mind, and Santana’s thankful for the darkness because it hides the blush she can feel creeping along her cheeks and the back of her neck. “Yeah,” she finally says, “I have a really good feeling about it.”

Ok let's see... its been about 3 weeks since i posted last, give or take a few days. And I'll just say its been an interesting and exhausting few weeks.
Still trying to completely get over my dumbf*ck feelings for Alex. I'm not really doing a super great job at that, and still get random depressive moments that last a varying amount of time, but usually i just push my pity party to the side after about 2 minutes.
On the 3rd of June, Alex went up to see part of her family and join them on a cruise to Columbia. She said wont be back until maybe the 3rd or 4th of July at the earliest. I kinda miss her, but I feel like spending a month physically apart from her will do me some good. Her and i still snap back and fourth to save our streak and to day good morning. Whenever she cant find wifi, she turns on her dad's personal hotspot so she can send me at least one snap to keep our streak rolling (we are the longest streak we have with anyone on our snapchats, and it stands currently at 261 days.) The day after she left the streak sorta died for the day, but she was able to save it cause she was in a different time zone.
Since she's been gone, we've hired several new people at work, many if which being new hosts (thank God tbh, cause this means after theyre all done training and get a couple weeks to get used to everything i can train as a server and hopefully make a little more money). One of them is Giovanni's sister (Gio is a guy that works there. Mostly does dish, sometimes hosts.) And apparently she likes me? About a week before she started they came in to eat with their mom and after they left Gio was like "Dude, i think my sister likes you."
Hey, some random girl actually has a crush on me for the first time in my life? That's cool! Right? It would be, if she weren't 17. If i were still 18 or 19, i wouldnt really care. But now that im 20, even though we only have a 2 year and almost 6 month age difference, i still feel like its weird. I feel like im in a whole new age threshold now that ive hit that 2 decade mark, and she just seems to me like a kid. Anyway, Sammy (thats her) is bi with a preference for girls. She's very forward about asking the girls at work about their sexuality (she'll be mid convo and just be like "wait; you straight?") She makes a hobby of flirting with the straight girls, because as she says it, she can easily flirt with straight girls bc she knows she wont have a chance. As soon as she knows theyre bi or gay, she cant even really talk to them. Sammy flirts with me in excess, has asked me 3 times if im straight, or if im sure that i am (homegirl has only been here like two weeks), and the reason why is because she would happily let me break her heart, and has said thats its too bad im not gay bc if i was she would let me crush her. Also has told me that i remind her of her ex girlfriend, and when i said idk if thats supposed to be a compliment or not, she said "well i really liked her, so..." Oh and btw all 3 times shes asked, I've told her im straight (yknow, bc im not out to the irl general public) and I'll just say that having to lie outloud about my sexuality does not feel that great. Thats not something ive ever had to verbally do before, and now i understand. Tbh i dont really lie, or at least i very rarely do, bc i dont like it, and i want to be seen as trustworthy. i have told my share of lies in my day, but i feel like that was in the top 3 worst lies ive ever told. Simply because i know thats not who i am, yet im saying it anyway.
Besides that, in these last couple weeks ive:
Gotten my computer hacked and almost got scamed out of the piddly $120 dollars total that is in my bank account for me to try to live off of until next Fridays paycheck, and almost got my brother's bank account hacked (looong f*ckin story. Short version, im a gotdang fool, and people are absolute bastards), so now i cant use my computer until i get it looked at, which means no art (sucks bc i wanted to draw myself a bi pride icon)
Put in 103 hours at work in the last 2 weeks
Had our only available car break down twice
Got about half of our kitchen painted. Still need to find time to finish it
Purchased tickets for a convention, and bought almost everything i need to finish my cosplay.
Have a sore in the back of my mouth thats been plaguing me for over a week (finally starting to heal. Its been hurting to do so much as talk, much less eat or drink)
Had to deal with everyone's attitudes at work (some sh*ts going on with the moon and everyones been a pissy ass lately, and im so over it)
The pain in the ass girl at work that we've been trying to get rid of for over a year called in and quit 15 minutes before her literal last shift (Father's day) and our proprietary manager told her "its bullshit that you just found out that your other job scheduled you to work today 15 minutes before you had to come here" and "dont try to come back to this store again". Im ecstatic about it tbqh and feel a small sense of victory about the whole thing.
One of my favorite gays from work had his last shift Saturday night and im still sad about it.
It may not seem like much but its just all around every other day something else small happened to add to the weird and crazy smorgasbord that is my life.
Also bless Sammy bc yesterday was Father's Day, and because of that, i was in the building of my work at 9:45am, started working to get set up at 10, opened around 10:50, and didnt stop until about 8:50pm, 10 minutes before we closed. Our proprietary manager bought us tons of pizza and snacks in the middle of our shift so that we could all take turns having a 10 minute breather, but other than that it was non-stop work and dedication to the customer. At 9:50am my brother went to the Duncan Donuts down the road from us to get the handful of morning people either coffee or bagels or whatever they asked for. I told my brother to get me the english muffin with egg and cheese, and if they had the option, to add sausage to it. Also to tell Sammy i said hi (because she works at that Duncan also, and was there yesterday morning). My brother comes back with breakfast, hands me my food and said that Sammy made it especially for me. (At that time i was also in a bad mood bc i was tired from working four open doubles in a row, and was stressed, so that really lifted my spirits a bit. The food, and the thought that someone made it especially for me.) And i'll just say she just earned my love for the next week at least.
Anyway i think thats all for now loves. I dont have a very eventful life, but i sure do have a busy one.

Back Again—Sunday Chats—7/8/18
Welcome Back!
It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, and I wanted to open up with a bit of a litany of excuses as to why that is! I know when you’re just on the outside looking in its hard to know exactly why I haven’t been posting these or asking questions, or really anything on Sundays. It’s a combination of things.
First of all, the last two Sundays I have not been home to write up Sunday Chats. Three weeks ago I was in Cuba! Well, technically I was at Key West, the day before I’d go to Cuba, on a cruise ship. Most importantly, the only internet access I had was through the data on my cell phone, and so I couldn’t really post Sunday Chats. In theory, I could solicit questions via my phone, I could write it up offline, and then go on and post it when I’d get home the following Wednesday, but I really didn’t want to because it was honestly a genuine vacation for me. I wanted to kind of check out and try and not be online so much. Of course, I failed a little bit in this regard, I was checking Twitter ravenously any time I had an internet connection, because I have a problem. For the most part, when I was off on my cruise with my mom and my brothers three weeks ago, I was without an internet connection, and it was a little nice, but also a little stressful.
The week before that, it was E3! We were living in the Microsoft/Bethesda press conferences! I was going to write something that day but honestly between the post shows and just consuming E3 I honestly did not have time. I’ve done like, reaction write ups in the past, but I was a bit more down to live in the moment this go around.
Then I was in San Francisco! It was the day after Kinda Funny Prom, which was lovely, we’ll get to that in a bit, but that Sunday I was seeing a movie with Barrett Courtney, my sweet boy, and was just exhausted after KFP and everything then. I had stayed up way too late the night before talking games and eating pizza. I had a great time, but I was still pretty checked out.
The Sunday between those two, I was completely exhausted. Honestly? I’m still exhausted. The best thing, I think, to alleviate my normal “post-con depression” type thing I get after a Kinda Funny Live event and seeing all my friends is taking another, separate vacation just beforehand. I had barely enough time to stay at home and just sit on my couch and play video games before suddenly being whisked off to San Francisco. So getting home, I am just so happy to be home, to be sleeping in my pitch-black room on my comfy foam mattress. To lay on my couch and play whatever video game I want (which mostly has been Tales of Vesperia... again) and just... relax. Ya know what I mean? I just want to relax. I’m a solitary person. I’ve talked many a-time before on here, but I just love to be alone a lot. And I just want to be alone sometimes, especially after several back-to-back socially exhausting experiences.
And that’s a big part about why I’ve been so crappy about doing Sunday Chats consistently. Even before this last month of vacations I’ve been very touch and go about SC. Now that I have fully transitioned into being a full time employee, I work a lot more than my body is used to, even if I am four months into my new role at my job. It’s a lot for me. And I’m barely keeping up with my IP work of being an editor there. And that’s, I think, more important, because I am making decisions and a team is relying on me for that.
I essentially circle around two days off a week, Wednesday and Sunday, and so I work Thursday-Friday-Saturday, plus I have the podcast on Friday nights. Without getting too into the details, Saturdays at my job take quite a toll. Like, a lot on me, so just making it to Sunday, I’ve genuinely forgotten completely about Sunday Chats because I am sleeping in and resting and just trying to get my bearings. I know it’s not much of an excuse, but I’m hoping to turn Sundays into equally as productive days as they are relaxing. It’s just about finding that balance.
As per usual, my trip to San Francisco was motivational in some ways, so I feel inspired to continue to work harder and do more now that I’m home, and hopefully that can last me until PAX West in a couple months.
But that’s generally where the status of Sunday Chats is. As a big update, while not going into effect quite yet (maybe not even for months) but Sunday Chats will soon transition to be a full feature on IrrationalPassions.com. I think it’s a natural transition and it makes sense. It’ll still be available and accessible to all, but I want to play around with some format ideas I have, and I think it makes sense to be there since it is, predominantly, about video games, as it always kind of was. I want to have these heartfelt chats there, because I think as the “editor-in-chief” of the site, it helps build a rapport with the audience of that site which seems to grow every month.
Now that’s all done, let’s get to the editorial!
My Feelings and Emotions in San Francisco
I like this title because it’s just all about the feels. As many frequent Sunday Chats readers would know, depression is just slowly becoming one and the same with me. Like two amorphous blobs just close enough to each other that they become one. Like slime enemies from Dungeons & Dragons that just jell together on spiritual and self-hatred-like level.
So I’ve been through a rough like... 2018 to be honest. And so being in a place where I was just genuinely surrounded by affection and good vibes was really, really moving for me. I put out a twitter thread about the feeling which I think encapsulates most of what I’d want to say, and you can read that here.
But a big thing is how being in SF has proven to be a huge opportunity for me in the past: a time to “schmooze” as some people say, and talk to people, make connections, market yourself, or just meet as many people as you can and spread “the brand” as much as possible. And honestly, I just wasn’t here for that this year. I’ve gotten to a very, maybe even regressive place in my life, where I’d rather not get out there and try and be at the center of things and meet as many folks as possible. There were certainly several folks I had never met before that I wanted to meet, but for the most part I spent that time focusing on more intimate interactions with specific people.
A lot of this manifested in folks I’ve admired for a great long while, and that’s the fellows at OK Beast. I got to have a real heart to heart with Ian Preschel, someone I just haven’t been as close to for whatever dozen reasons that usually amount to time, and understand him better as a person. I got to have an emotional moment with Moises, someone I admire so goddamn much and for some reason keeps saying I’m the reason he started writing. I got to spitball ideas with Alex Van Aken, my fellow Alex-in-Arms, and share the wonders of running a business Slack with Blessing. They’re people I just genuinely look up to and inspire me legitimately every day, and I’m excited and hopeful to collaborate with them in the future. I have nothing but love for all of them, including Brandon, wherever he is out there.
I got to spend a ton of time with Barrett and Alyssa, my hosts, and Jacob Bryant who was also rooming with me at their place. They’re just family to me. Enough said.
I got to spend a huge chunk of time with Nicole Humphrey and Cameron Abbott, two very special friends to me, and for reasons I’d rather not put on blast here, it was very important to me that this time was worked into my trip, and I’m so glad it was.
Those dense, meaningful interactions are what I live for. It’s literally why I started the show Get Acquainted (new episodes coming soon I promise!) and they were the highlights of the weekend. I won’t list them all here, but suffice to say on a personal level this trip was very important to me, rather than on a “business level” which it has been for me in the past.
Thank you all for being open to wasting your time with me, I’ll be forever grateful.
ONTO GAMES.
What’s On Tap
Hollow Knight
I HAVEN’T TALKED ABOUT THIS GAME ON SUNDAY CHATS AT ALL YET AND IT’S INCREDIBLE OMG.
I love this game.
Final game time was 42h and 7m, and all of it was excellent. Well... Not all of it, there were a couple very frustrating bosses. But most of it was excellent.
One of the best Metroidvanias ever made. Symphony of the Night, Super Metroid, Ori and the Blind Forest, Hollow Knight, and Metroid Prime are the best of the genre full stop. It sits proudly in that number.
Don’t think. Play it.
Unless you really don’t like hard games, because it’s very difficult, but crazy rewarding!
Ys VIII
I just got this pretty recently and am only about four or so hours in, and so far it’s just a wonderful delight.
Compared to the demo I played a great many months ago on PS4, the Switch version does take quite the graphical hit, especially if you have a hangup about anti-aliasing. There are a LOT of jaggies to be seen here
BUT, I think performance wise it’s still very solid. Some hitches here and there, but during combat it’s generally smooth, and that’s what’s most important.
Very good. Recommended.
Captain Spirit
Honestly, there is too much to say here. Don’t hesitate, go play this. I do not care if you’re like Jurge Cruz (social media editor at IP) and are dead inside and don’t like Captain Spirit. It’s free. Go play it.
Nuff. Said.
More thoughts coming soon.
Questions
Remember you can tweet me your questions by looking for my tweet with #SundayChats in it on Sunday afternoons, and you can be a part of this write up! Much love to everyone who always shows up (I’m looking at you Brandon Gann! <3)!

Goddammit Tyler you keep asking me wrestling shit and you know I hate wrestling...

A great many things! Event wise, I’m very excited about PAX West. Assuming I can still make it, which I should be able to, it’ll be a blast.
Plus there are new shows and new things coming from IP soon that I am just hyped for.
But let’s be honest with each other? Okay? Let’s all be real here?
Motherfucking Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition.
‘Nuff said.
Tumblr media
My favorite Romantic Comedy of All Time just so happens to also be my favorite movie of all time, Silver Linings Playbook.
It is, in my humble opinion, a perfect film. It is the only movie I have watched over 10 times.
It’s very important to me, and while it may seem dumb to many of you, it told me that even fucked up bad people like me can find love in both themselves and others. And I really needed to hear that when that movie found its way to me in 2013.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Good LORD am I the WORST to ask about this. Well, first, Jamie. It was a goddamn pleasure meeting you at prom.
I mean, look at us:
Tumblr media
I was very drunk and I’m so sorry.
But on a real level, a few things.
First, I did this horrible thing where I wrote everyday for almost three years straight and that was just a self-made torture and I have to keep myself in shape motivationally speaking or else I’ll have to do that again. And that sounds torturous. But as far as building strong habits I think that did help a lot. I mean, Sunday Chats is a direct by product of that, and I think generally people seem to like SC.
Second, I spend a lot of my brain energy trying not to worry about shit I have zero control over. If I misread a text and think someone hates me for whatever reason, which I do pretty much on a daily basis, I’m either going to text them back and ask, or do nothing, and if I’ve decided to do nothing, then I don’t get to be upset about it. If someone is doing some wack shit, I’m either gonna keep talking to them, or nah. Just do it, and everything else, well there is nothing you can do about it. Usually. But my depressed-adled and crazy-ass garbage brain still spends many an hour worrying about things I have no control over. But I’ll say this, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve gotten better at it. Skill comes with time and age.
Third, I think finding someone on relatively equal footing as you but maybe doing something better or more interesting or just simply different than you can really be motivational. It’s easy to get demotivated by someone else’s success, but words I try and hold onto every goddamn day are “someone else’s success does not equate to your failure”.
I hope that helps!
Tumblr media
I have not had a lot this year, unfortunately. Avengers was great? I looooved Ant Man and the Wasp! Adored it. Just saw it yesterday (on Sunday, actually!) and it was phenomenal.
But outside of that I don’t have much. It’s crazy to say that in a year where a new JK Rowling Harry Potter movie is coming out, but Johnny Depp is in that movie and he is fucking human trash and for some reason WB is letting him just waltz around like he hasn’t done horrific things.
But anyway, I’d very much like to see Fireworks, from the same folks what made Your Name, but the dub wasn’t playing anytime I could see it this past weekend. :(
Maybe if it goes up on streaming soon (which I’m hopeful it will) I can see it.
Outside of that, I got nothing.
Tumblr media
As someone who actively dislikes breakfast and most breakfast food, this is tricky for me to answer. I know your whole breakfast fetish Quin, so I won’t shit on you here, but I guess it’d just be a simple bagel (everything bagel. or poppy seed, depending on my mood) or maybe pancakes/waffles.
My thing is waffles/pancakes aren’t breakfast food, they’re anytime food. Or 1am food.
Tumblr media
I have traveled a lot yes, but it’s been to a lot of the same places over and over again unfortunately. Not that that’s necessarily bad, but it’s been a lot of SF, Boston, etc, etc.
Having just gone to Cuba, I finally have a passport! So it’s time.
It’s time Japan. I’m coming to you.
And hopefully Ireland too. But those trips will likely have to wait a bit and be very far from one another.
Tumblr media
ISLAND BOY!
Tumblr media
Well, that is a nightmare scenario for me, because I’d definitely die very quickly. BUT. If I had to choose.
First up would be Bentley from Sly Cooper, because he is a big needy nerd like me and would want to get the hell out of there ASAP just as much as I do, and he could make like, a series of small helicopters out of coconuts or some shit.
SECONDLY.... Hrmm.... harder choice.
There is a really great joke here about choosing Fi from Skyward Sword because maybe she could just DOUSE our way to a better situation, heaven knows...
But I’m mostly above that.
I’d say Cappy from Mairo Odyssey just because I just looked at my Cappy hat and it’d be fun to just capture turtles and crabs and stuff on the island. Not Bentley, he’d consider that an invasion of privacy.
Tumblr media
I don’t know if YOU should get Detroit, but I absolutely love it. I’d say read Logan Wilkinson’s excellent review of the game, available here:
http://irrationalpassions.com/detroit-become-human-review/
He liked one relationship in that game a lot more than I did, but generally we’re on the same page with it. I love the game, and if Heavy Rain did anything for you then I think Detroit is better in just about every way.
I’ll say this: it’s not like 2018 has been BANGERs for me, but after 2017, where two of my new favorite games EVER came out (Breath of the Wild and Persona 5) it’s just so impossible to follow that up. That being said, I’m medium to high excited about MANY games this fall: Spyro, Tomb Raider, Valkyria Chronicles, AC Odyssey, Life is Strange S2, Code Vein, Darksiders 3, and Smash Bros. That’s a whole lot in just three short months to eat up like some yummy yummy candy.
So while I think he first half of 2018 has been pretty great, mostly because of Hollow Knight, but also Ni No Kuni 2, Celeste, Yakuza 6, and Moonlighter, its still been good. It’s been a big one for me to reconnect with my indie darlings. And that’s big for me.
I hope that helps!
Checklist
It’s been a while eh?
Well here are some recs!
“The Short But Chilling ‘Captain Spirit’ Weaponizes Empathy Against You” - Patrick Klepek - Waypoint.
I have barely read this but everything about it jives with me. Another one to check out only after you’ve played Captain Spirit, which I assume all of you are going to do, because it’s free, and because I asked you so nicely to do so.
The Music of Persona 4 Golden - Blessing Adeoye - OKBeast.com
I mean, it’s about arguably the best video game soundtrack of all time, from one of the best music-takers in games, that just so happens to be on my favorite video game of all time. What do you want? Go watch.
OK Beast Podcast Episode 100 - OKBeast.com
I’ve found myself far more into OKBP since they merged OKB and PPR into one show. Here is their 100th episode, where they decided to rank the best 100 video games ever. For some reason.
Like, what if on Ep 400 of IPP we ranked the top 400 video games of all time? Fuck that.
Love those boys.
That’s it. That’s all she wrote. Or rather, that’s all I wrote. Sorry this posted Monday, I hadn’t checked my work schedule for a minute and then I saw at like, 8:30pm I had to open today and that means I have to wake up at 6am and I figured I should be responsible and get a full night’s sleep. Still didn’t fall asleep until about 10:30am, but I wrote some of this last night.
I’m rambling.
I love you all.
Do me a favor though?
Keep it real.

[Write Life] June Wrap-up & July 2021 Goals!
Whelp, June did not go as planned. I definitely felt very rushed and cornered because I bout of depression-based executive disfunction caught me by the throat (this whole post-pandemic job-search thing is really starting to get to me...). Beyond that, Star Wars has kind of taken over my life a bit, which is a new obsession that I've allowed myself to dive headlong into because it was something to be excited about (while everything else I've been attempting to work on was feeling like it was predetermined to end in failure).
At the very least I more than met my goal for the month's general word count.
I wound up with a final daily average of 2,608 and a final count of ~78,250, which is technically a better result than last month, but I got less of the goals I'd set for myself even half accomplished... It means I'm both mildly pleased and disappointed in myself for it all, but here's how it breaks down:
Literally all I worked on this past month at all were my job applications and my new Star Wars obsession story... It's not even a single story, it's a hodge-podge of like 3 potential stories that all have the same theme (and currently the same title) that MAY eventually take shape enough to be posted on Ao3... Basically, I just wanted to run through a head-space hop-scotch game of the Clone Wars characters as Ahsoka Tano proves herself to be rather more grown up than the others would like to think of her.
I am quite fond of what I've come up with, but the stories will need a lot more work to be even half presentable as legit fics. And I'm mostly focused on whipping the BatFam / SPN crossover story into shape for posting. If I get a bit more of that finished and polished up, I should be able to start posting 2 chapters per week (so each story will get a new chapter once per week instead of how I currently have them alternating)... But that's a thing I won't be able to manage until at least August.
Also, Sun & Stars unfortunately is slipping off the table, because it is just too difficult to keep up with all the research when I can't pass any of it off as classwork. When I had a class focused on material objects and how human culture builds itself around them I was able to pick the Crusades as my area of focus, but now I'm in a fairly intense Linguistic seminar and this fall I have Literature, Ethics, and Human Rights course that's gonna be mostly focused on the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries... So yeah, that Crusades research is just gonna be a lot harder to keep up with. Especially, if I don't get a higher-paying job and need to scrounge for extra shifts like I have been so far this summer... It's tragic, but it is what it is, and I would like to come back to it eventually. I do still have a few unedited / not-fully-fact-checked chapters in my word doc, that I'd like to finish cleaning up at get posted, so I'll hopefully be doing at least one of those this month, but that's about all I can offer for this story for the foreseeable future.
For now, I want to reaffix my focus to getting Assassin's Game published, so I'm aiming for another big push in query letters to lit agents. And of course, that whole getting-a-decent-job nonsense... So, those are my two big focus-points for July.
July 2021 Goals:
    - Query 9 Lit Agents     - Post 1 Chapter of Sun & Stars.     - Post 4 Chapters of Multiverse Mishap.     - Post 8 Media Reviews    - Make 3 other kinds of Post (special release, culture crit, write life, etc)     - Submit 12 Job Applications    **- Draft ~30k in [Star Wars] Not a Kid...
It's not an excessive amount of work in terms of accomplishing the main, normal goals, but (as evidenced by the tacked on extra goal) I am also quite sure that I'll be posting a lot of new words as being part of the [Star Wars] Not a Kid semi-story, so hopefully I'll get at least one piece of that sorted out well enough to being posting it as a current project on Ao3... We'll just have to see what happens.
July 2021 Schedule:
Monday: Post new chapter of Multiverse Mishap. (Bats | Biweekly) Tuesday: Post new chapter of Sun & Stars. (Hopefully) Wednesday: Post Media Review. Thursday: Special Access, Write Life, or Culture Crit posts. Friday: Post Media Review. Saturday: Post new chapter of Multiverse Mishap. (SPN | Biweekly) Sunday: No Post.
So, hopefully, we'll see something happen that shifts things towards a brighter future. But if not, I've at least got a handle on myself enough to know I tried... (It's really difficult not to feel like a lazy piece of shit when like 80% of my day often involves sitting on a couch, and then just a short bit of shift work... but I absolutely cannot focus on anything like a job app after a shift at one of my jobs... ADHD brain says when the shift is over the day is over... even if I get out of work at like 11am, which means to compensate and actually get shit done with my days I've been waking up at like 2am on the regular...).
We'll have to see how it all works out.
I hope you guys have a great July, a FANTASTIC 4th of July Weekend, and as always, if you think of anything you'd like me to write about, just drop me a line and I'll work it into the schedule post haste!
GOOD LUCK, Y'ALL!

Ear Herpes
From Vicki --
I guess I’m paying now for a relatively healthy 2020.
On Monday of last week, my ear started hurting a little bit. I had been wearing ear plugs to sleep and figured I put one in weirdly - no big deal.  By Wednesday I had mild vertigo, and the doctor on Friday told me that I probably had a viral ear infection and that we could only treat symptoms. I went home with my weird Swiss medicines - basically Tylenol, nose spray, and some anti-nausea medications that did nothing - and figured that was that.
On Saturday morning, I woke up and felt like the right side of my face wasn’t moving as it should, and on Saturday night, Google told me this was a symptom of a middle ear infection. My ear had continued to hurt and my vertigo had gotten worse. By Sunday morning, though, it was clear that something was wrong as half of my face now wasn’t moving at all. Couldn’t blink, couldn’t smile, couldn’t raise my eyebrow. We called the school nurse who called a doctor that works at my doctor’s office but happens to live near the school, who graciously came to my apartment on a Sunday morning to check me out - so nice!  She told me it wasn’t a brain thing - not to worry about that - but that I should go to the ER.
At the ER, which was very tidy and full of friendly doctors and nurses - along with this baby who was walking around telling everyone “tschuss” (which means goodbye auf Deutsch) - they echoed that it was a viral ear infection, sort of.  They said it looked like I had Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, a rare shingles-type resurgence of the chicken pox virus (which, I learned, is a form of the herpes virus) that appears in and around the ear at random. By this point, I’d been dizzy for a few days, half of my face had been paralyzed for 18-24 hours, and my ear hurt badly.  They gave me antivirals and eye drops for my eye that wouldn’t close and sent me home. (I’ll post a video of me in the hospital trying to do the same movements on both sides of my face. It’s crazy!)  I was surprised by the kindness of the doctor and nurse who treated me in the ER. I’ve never been to an ER before, and I think this speaks to stereotypes of Swiss people (which isn’t fair), but I expected everyone to be all business, focusing only on their job with me and not about me as a person, but that couldn’t have been farther from my experience. My nurse was jovial, so warm and kind and did an amazing job taking my blood (which I hate) and made fun of me the appropriate amount when I freaked out about that plastic thing being pulled out at the end. The doctor was patient and explained everything to me as simply as she could.
Yesterday, we went to the ENT in Interlaken and had the diagnosis confirmed and I received STILL more medication: steroids, eye ointment, and stronger anti-nausea medication. I started taking the full arsenal this morning and am hopeful to be back to normal in a few days.
This experience has taught me two things: 1) How lucky we are to have our health when we have it/how easy it is to take that for granted, and 2) what an insane champion Ryan is. During this time, he completed most of our isolation period by himself with the 6 kids we have in the house right now, in addition to taking care of my wobbly ass that can hardly walk back and forth to the bathroom without falling down. He completed quarantine with them and has started the term, going to all three meals every day with them, going over ski rules, and getting them signed up for afternoon classes. He’s driven me to the doctor in Meiringen once and Interlaken twice, along with the requisite pharmacy trips each time; twice in the insane snow and once that began with walking me down the intensely icy stairs. He’s done ALL of this, and has been insistent that I shouldn’t feel guilty for not being able to help, reminding me that this isn’t my fault, and continuing to tell me that the best way I can help him is by focusing on getting better. I don’t know how I got so lucky to marry such an incredible man, but I could not be more thankful. He’s the best and I owe him a vacation or many beers or, hopefully very soon, both.
In my incapacitated state, I’ve watched a significant amount of Netflix including all of “Modern Family” and “Hamilton” in honor of the Inauguration, which was beautiful. I’ve also done a lot of googling about chicken pox and viruses and a lot of staring into space while Ryan has kept us afloat. The kids were great during quarantine but now are acting wild in the worst way, and we’re finishing up a Fohn, a weird warm wind event common in the Alps that brings gale-force winds basically out of nowhere. Hopefully that will be over tonight and we can all start getting back to normal.
2020 is bleeding a little bit into 2021, but I’m feeling optimistic that things will be more normal soon.
Also, Packers to the Super Bowl, anyone?

Streams airing live on The Rose Garden Network in January 2021 (times in EST).
🍾 Happy New Year Everyone!! 🍾
🎉 Welcome to 2021 my babes. 2020 was a roller coaster for sure but in our bubble of stream land over here we accomplished a lot!! I'm very pleased with all I have been able to get done in the past year on this channel even with school taking up most of my time. This month I head into my final semester of college which means as the year progresses I will have more and more time to dedicate to this space. I have **a lot** of plans going into the new year for new stream series, extra content, and little touches to make things more special. I couldn't be more excited to let you all into my new plans moving forward. So thank you so so so much for your continued support through 2020 and I hope you are excited as well to jump into all of the fabulous content coming your way in 2021! 💜
~~~
📅 Jumping into January, oooh look, a shiny new calendar format! I wanted something a little prettier and more bullet journaly going forward and I think this one looks nice. I know the dates are squished together a bit confusingly at the start here but I promise only January looks like that and the future months are more laid out.
❄️ Hunger Games Season 2: Arctic Tundra is coming to a close!! It has been a wild ride but the finale airs tonight, January 1st where the final 2 will face their last challenges, and one man will be crowned the winner. Then we will wrap up the season on January 8th with an explosive reunion show where we'll send the tributes through a speed run of the season before seeing who would win if they were to all kill each other like the real Hunger Games! It's all sure to be tons of fun.
💅 On January 3rd (my Twitch anniversary fun fact) we're gonna be doing a fun little irl stream. My mod Robin came up with the idea during our Bratz: Forever Diamondz series, where she would come up with our fabulous makeup looks, to do the same thing with me! So it will be a chill little makeup stream where I will be creating a look dictated by Robin only through the chat.
🗡️ We're doing a community stream on January 5th so please join us for some fun stabby times in Among Us! We had a blast on Halloween last year so I figured we should do it again!
🍼 I wouldn't normally call out Sims 4 100 Baby Challenge, but I want to specifically mention our next stream because it's going to be one you don't want to miss. January 13th we'll be getting back to the baby making as we officially start Generation 2 with Atlanta as our heir. It's going to be a bit more plot heavy than our regular let's play style to kick off this new era so I really hope to see you there for all the drama...
❓ What's this? A new Friday series? That's right, after Hunger Games has concluded a BRAND NEW show titled Sharpest Tool will be premiering on the channel on January 15th to take over the Friday slot. It is going to be another story based/scripted series produced in the same style of Traitorous, though it is not in the soap opera genre. Feel free to speculate in the brand new #❓-sims-4-sharpest-tool channel based on the episode names available here, but tune into the Hunger Games Reunion on 01/08/21 where I'll officially announce the show and tell you all about it...
⛏️Lots of new stuff! Cities: Skylines is over but chill sandbox building games content is not! We're starting a new reoccurring Saturday series on January 16th where me and the Rose Garden Mods will be dicking around in Minecraft, a game I have limited knowledge of. It should be a fun laidback time just building whatever we want, albeit a bit more chaotic than Cities: Skylines.
🧓🏻 We're going to work through some of the games in #💬-stream-suggestions this year, starting off with a cute dating sim on January 19th that was suggested by my mod Jenna! It is a "sexy seniors dating sim" called Later Daters that we will at least begin this month and hopefully finish in February.
🌻 January 24th will be our chill indie game day where we'll be playing all the way through The Gardens Between, a puzzle game that should only take a couple of hours. I have had my eye on the art for a while and picked it up during the Steam Winter sale and am excited to explore it with y'all.
~~~
Whew, long post this time sorry! But there you have it, there's all my notes for the new year! The rest is pretty much the same, no changed time-slots for our regular series. Thank you for your continued support and let's rock 2021! 💜
