i did not put much effort into visual changes bc that'd be a waste of my own creativity, but i did a lil sumn at least. i spent less than 30 minutes total brainstorming a new baseline concept for whatever his deal is supposed to be and drawing this.

What do you think of the newly revealed casting in Hazbin Hotel?

So right off the bat, just gonna say replacing all the indie VA's with bigger name broadway stars is a very Vivzie thing to do. It's not Chris Pratt as Mario levels of upsetting, but its still very unfortunate, especially considering that most of the new VA's sound... extremely close to what the previous VA's were going for in the pilot. So the replacement seems a bit sore or unnecessary. I've been told several times by my voice acting friend that this isn't an issue of Union Contracts, but an issue of replacements in favor of more famous talents and burned bridges amongst staff with Viv. Which, you know, if the VAs did undergo unfair treatment of any kind and didn't care leaving the project then kudos to them, but if its not the case for all of them and they were booted off without warning, I'd probably be hurt too.

But I'll be honest in saying Erika, Charlie's new VA is a better singer than the pilot singer. The pilot singer's voice was a little too high pitched, but it could have also been the fast high key song that made it difficult.

Vaggie's VA Stephanie voiced Mirabel from Encanto. Again sounds pretty close to the original VA, just maybe a pinch deeper.

Angel's VA is a bit more nasally and croaky? But only by a little.

Alastor's VA doesn't have as thick of an accent as Bosco gave him, but again, its very subtle. Husk's new VA on the other hand is straight up Keith David. Cat from Coraline and the Witch Doctor from Princess and the Frog. Husk sounded like a deeper more dead inside Rick Sanchez in the pilot but now he's gonna sound like a... suave jazz singer???? which is a very different take on his character.

Niffty's VA Kimiko is straight up Peni from Spiderverse. I think Viv said she imagined Niffty was half Japanese and from the 50s (Japanese Concentration camps ended in 1946??? I feel like that should effect Niffty's history) Her original VA wasn't Japanese, but she was bilingual and was an Japanese exchange student. So one could make the argument, that is to say if Niffty's Japanese heritage is actually going to be legitimately utilized, that Niffty got a new VA to prevent white washing. But I'm not one to representatively speak on a topic like that.

Alex Brightman is already the VA for Fizzarolli from Helluva Boss, so him as Sir Pentious makes sense. But I think Stamper the original VA already had a really good voice for that character. Perfectly quirky and evil.

So really I feel like maybe one or two characters have significant voice changes while the rest sound almost exactly as they did in the pilot. They are indeed very good VA's and singers, I'm excited they got this opportunity and I'm excited to see what they bring to Hazbin. On the other hand I just feel so awful for the indie VA's that got replaced because they're not famous broadway singers.

Like that's kind of the whole point of being Indie? Not being a big, major, famous company? Not having big major famous people?

But well, Hazbin Hotel was sold to A24 so... they're certainly not indie anymore.

It looks like the ML movie is gonna be on Netflix instead of theaters here and I gotta admit I'm a little disappointed! I kinda wanted to hang out with other ml fans irl for a bit, all incognito but maybe wearing one of my pins to see if anyone recognized it.

I AM glad that this should mean I can watch it in French, though. And also that it will be easier/cheaper to watch.

I love how BioWare tries (and succeeds a lot of the time) to not make their characters one dimensional.

Dorian may be sassy and flamboyant but he’s got the vibes of a theatre kid trying to hide the pain with humour and good vibes when in reality, the crippling guilt of being a massive disappointment is slowly consuming him. Even if he acts like he “doesn’t need” his fathers love or approval.

Iron Bull. Like an onion, he has layers. Those layers are everything from a scared kid growing up in the Qun, to the person he becomes after his personal quest. He shows genuine care for his friends and charges, even if he presents himself as a nonchalant mercenary.

Garrus is secretly a huge nerd while also managing to pull off badassery. Me2 has two perfect examples: fetching him/his retrieval quest, and the note he likes fleet and floatila on his file in the shadow broker base. Someone’s pointed it out before but he “reinacts” the scene you watch with tali/uses it as inspiration in me3 with Shepard!romance.

For Tali you get to see her grow from a young adult/teen on her pilgrimage to taking on the role of admiral and the responsibility of her people’s future. Yet she still allows herself to be young and enjoy things such as fleet and flotilla, and eat too much-dextro cheese (I think it was cheese I can’t remember it’s foggy).

Even Jaal is a good example. He’s a hero to his people, the poster boy you tell people about to join the resistance, people whisper about him in the street - yet he’s the softest nerd you’ll ever meet. He’s awkward when interacting with other cultures/races, usually over compensating, he’s not afraid to show his emotions, and he’s very intelligent both emotional and otherwise. The perfect example would be during his personal quest when he insists he won’t be killed.

There’s definitely more but I’m too tired to do them. My point is, BioWare is pretty dope.

Okay but seeing posts on the Trigun archive of people grieving JP Meryl's VA passing made me finally realize that's the reason she doesn't get a cameo as one of the radio DJs in Stampede like Vash and Wolfwood's VAs do (I'm holding out hope for Milly's being on the radio come season 2 given, well, you know) and made me real sad ):

Honestly I’m so happy Genya only spent like a couple of episodes max after his introduction being “the show’s token bad boy & the protagonist’s broody rival” and is now a really good and wholesome friend to Tanjiro instead, because having him be voiced by Bakugou’s voice actor AND needing 6+ seasons to learn to be nice toward the main character would have been overkill.
